I try to avoid cheap jokes about Ukraine is like Africa. But I do sometimes wonder. This is how doctors and nurses at a Lvov hospital reacted to finding out that they wouldn't be hosting potential coronavirus infectees evacuated from China. By singing the ще не вмерла. In fairness, you're probably safer staying at home... Read More
The judge in question was an Obama-era minority appointee. This may have played a role in her imposing the maximum sentence of 18 months requested by the prosecution, despite the ridiculousness of the case. reiner Tor comments:
So Russiagate 2017 ends in Muellergate 2019. As was pretty clear at the start - as people such as Glenn Greenwald, Aaron Mate, Robert Parry, and Alexander Mercouris have been writing all these years. Manafort, its most prominent casualty, had worked to draw the Ukraine in the West's orbit (hilariously, he kind of belatedly succeeded).... Read More

What do the current legal travails of a Russian "oligarch" (he has zero power) in Monaco actually have to do with him having gotten involved in a real estate transaction ("money laundering") with Bad Orange Man a decade ago? Let's have a look at housing prices in Florida: As one can see, they did indeed... Read More
From the latest DoJ indictment of Russian trolls [pdf]: That said, I don't quite see how this kind of "Internet research" qualifies as conspiring to "commit offense against" or "defraud" the United States (18 U.S. Code § 371).

There's nothing particularly new or interesting per se in the 37 page indictment of 13 Russian nationals, including its head Evgeny Prigozhin, for "meddling" in the US elections through online trolling. The existence of the Internet Research Agency - or "Olgino", as it is known in Russia, after the location of the first "troll factory"... Read More
The Treasury has come out with its list of 210 Russian oligarchs and politicians, ostensibly in preparation for targeted sanctions. It's a pretty hilarious affair, basically a copy-paste job from the Forbes list of Russian billionaires and a page listing biographies at government.ru . If I wanted to try to split the Russian elite, I... Read More
Some numbers: There are about 300,000 babies born to foreign citizens in the US every year, of which the vast majority will be accruing to Central American illegals. Only an estimated 40,000 occurs due to birth tourism. There are no hard statistics on this. However, some cursory searching gave me this thesis by Brandon J.... Read More

About Anatoly Karlin

I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.

One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.

Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
