Earlier, by Peter Brimelow: “It Will Come To Blood”—Reflections On The Left’s Anti-Trump Inauguration Tantrum

The recent sudden eruption of a Totalitarian Left in America is essentially unparalleled in our history. But it has an unmistakable precedent in the early French Revolution: the Jacobins, who briefly held power and imposed a regime of crazed ruthlessness and radicalism before being overthrown by the moderate Thermidorian Reaction (named for the month of Thermidor—changing the calendar was part of the Jacobins’ drive to destroy traditional society and culture). Today, a flagship publication of the U.S. Left is called, incredibly, Jacobinopenly glorying in the implied threat of repression and mass murder. The good news: these revolutionary spasms don’t last. The bad news: they can do a lot of damage.

Jacobinism was the mother of all modern totalitarian ideologies. The Club was formed on April 30, 1789, by anti-royalist deputies to the newly-summoned Estates-General, many of whom were middle-class strivers like lawyer and fu ture leader Maximilien Robespierre. By October 1789, it was reorganized as The Society for Revolution, or The Society of the Friends of the Constitution. Royalist pamphleteers called the club the “Jacobins” because it met at a former Dominican monastery in Paris, the Couvent des Jacobins de la rue Saint-Jacques. By July 1790, the Jacobin Club’s membership numbered 1,200 in Paris; 152 clubs had sprouted throughout France.

The ethos of the Jacobins was revolutionary and based in the ideals of the Enlightenment. Its adherents wanted to destroy the French monarchy and replace it with a “democratic” republic disconnected from any influence of the Catholic Church. They were militantly anti-Christian and violent from the beginning, taking inspiration like many others in the revolutionary ferment from Lucifer, the rebel against God.

The Jacobins sought to use the profound anger of the French Revolution to their advantage. And what anger there was. The storming of Versailles by an army of women—and men dressed like women—ended with the decapitation of two guards and a chorus baying for Queen Marie Antoinette’s flesh and blood. Other instances of urban violence included the storming of the Bastille [Demonic: How The Liberal Mob Is Destroying America, by Ann Coulter, Penguin Random House, 2012].

But that violence paled beside what was to happen between September 5, 1793, and July 28, 1794—the “Reign of Terror.” As Revolutionary France fought for its life against a coalition of European monarchies, the government in Paris decided to secure its power by eliminating suspected counter-revolutionaries. The Jacobins, led by Robespierre and his Committee of Public Safety, suspended the right to a public trial and legal assistance. They arrested 300,000, executed 17,000, and let 10,000 die in prison.

Terror came to the provinces too. As part of the Jacobin assault on local autonomy, soldiers were sent out into the countryside. In the Vendée, they found a peasantry enraged over the destruction of their churches and traditional way of life. They responded by carrying out what amounted to a genocide: French historian Reynald Secher estimated that 117,000 Vendéens out of a population of 815,000 disappeared from the public record during the insurgency. On top of that, eighteen percent of private houses were lost along with approximately fifty percent of all dwellings. [The French Genocide That Has Been Air-Brushed From History, by Jaspreet Singh Boparai, Quillette, March 10, 2019]. As in Paris, churches were turned into whorehouses or made into anti-churches where the Goddess Reason was worshipped instead of Jesus Christ.

This is significant. Aberrant sexual practices were also a core component of the Jacobin revolution—influenced by the Marquis de Sade , the pornographer and pervert who had spent five years in the Bastille for sex crimes before the prison was stormed. The Jacobins promoted free love and promiscuity, tried to ban priestly celibacy and strong-armed priests into getting married [The Jacobin Clubs in the French Revolution, 1793-1795, by Michael Kennedy].

Similarly, just as today’s Antifa Jacobins employ the violence of their ideological ancestors, they also promote sexual libertinism. Antifa recently rioted and even shot counter-protestors for having the gall to demand repercussions for a transexual sex criminal eventually convicted of flashing his genitals at innocent spa customers in Los Angeles [Sex offending suspect claims transgender harassment in Wi Spa case, by Andy Ngo, New York Post, September 2, 2021]. The Antifa Jacobins are also (you won’t read this in the Regime Media) disproportionately involved in sex with children [Antifa has a major pedophile problem, by Anna Slatz, The Post Millennial, March 7, 2020 [paywall]]. De Sade, of course, was also a pedophile [Marquis de Sade: depraved monster or misunderstood genius? It’s complicated, The Conversation, September 24, 2020].

Of interest to Americans given the current border disaster, the Jacobin malignancy metastasized to Haiti. In May 1791, the revolutionary government granted political rights to rich free people of color on the island, but the gesture didn’t stop the coming hurricane of sanguinary violence. On August 21, after a voodoo ceremony, slaves rebelled. The slave army reached 100,000. Here’s how Leftist Wikipedia describes the resulting bloodbath:

[M]asters and mistresses were dragged from their beds to be killed, and the heads of French children were placed on spikes that were carried at the front of the rebel columns. …

[W]ithin the next two months, as the violence escalated, the slaves killed 4,000 whites and burned or destroyed 180 sugar plantations and hundreds of coffee and indigo plantations. At least 900 coffee plantations were destroyed, and the total damage inflicted over the next two weeks amounted to 2 million francs. In September 1791, the surviving whites organized into militias and struck back, killing about 15,000 blacks.

In July 1792, a civil commission backed by 6,000 soldiers arrived from France. Among the members of the commission: Léger-Félicité Sonthonax, a committed Jacobin. In 1793, Sonthonax emancipated the slaves—sort of like defunding the police?

In 1805, after French troops departed the island, self-declared emperor J ean-Jacques Dessalines promised to protect whites, and white refugees who had fled the violence returned. But then Dessalines began a white genocide. A French official who witnessed the horrors said bands of blacks and mulattos attacked white women and children with knives, bayonets, and sabers [The French Revolution in San Domingo, by T. Lothrop Stoddard, Houghton-Mifflin, 1914]. Many were disemboweled, others were drowned. White women were kept as sex slaves and forced to “marry” their tormentors. By the end, the Jacobin-inspired revolution of Haiti had killed off the white population of the island.

In later years, the Luciferian Jacobin spirit spread beyond France to Soviet Russia and elsewhere. Another lesser-known episode: the 1910-1920 Mexican Revolution, which left the revolutionary government of General Plutarco Elías Calles in charge. Calles immediately attacked the Catholic Church and the peasant Cristeros took up arms.

Approximately 30,000 to 50,000 Mexican Catholics perished in the fighting. The Church recognizes 25 saints and martyrs of the war.

The same story played out in the 1936-1939 Spanish Civil [Spain: Remembering the forgotten Red Terror, by Rev. Ben Johnson, Acton.org, November 6, 2017]. As with Mexico, the Catholic Church has beatified almost 2,000 victims of the Red Terror. And like true Jacobins, the current socialist government of Spain is erasing the country’s past, even moving the graves of the Nationalist dead.

Remember the campaign staffers for Bernie Sanders who threatened the guillotine and mass murder for Republicans, Trump supporters, and moderate Democrats [ANOTHER Bernie 2020 Field Organizer: “I’ll Straight Up Get Armed…I’m Ready for the F***ing Revolution…Guillotine the Rich”; Praises the Soviet Union, Advocates Sending “All the Republicans to the Re-Education Camps,” Project Veritas, January 21, 2020].

To summarize: The Jacobin parallels with BLM and Antifa and with the Regime in Washington that supports them are clear:

All those were features of the original Jacobin revolution. Our American Jacobins want to kill us and destroy our country. We had better get to work.

  2. Deliberate conflation of socialism with anything evil this guy can come up with.

This is how they do it. Economic socialism, which would make our lives better, take from the rich and give to us, give us financial security no matter what our circumstances, help us when we need help, is deliberately conflated with this dumbass woke shit and the clamp-downs over the virus–neither of which have anything whatsoever with socialism.

This is how they do it. Know the beast by its mark.

Ann Coulter’s analysis of the French Revolution is correct. It was not, as Chesterton thought, a war of the poor against the rich. It was a war of lawyers, journalists, and perverts against an entire civilization. The same as what is happening in America today.

  7. The 3 pillars of Luciferianism are:

    1) Judaism
    2) Free Masonry
    3) Roman Catholicism

These are the pillars of power for the NWO. This is why they were kept out of American society by WASPS for so long – they were correctly perceived to be destructive forces, as power groups, even if members are unaware of the nature if their organizations.

These are all perversions of the Gospels, but Christianity is not necessary to see their mission is the perversion of the good, the true, and the beautiful. They all violate natural law in fundamental ways.

The hard and soft evidence on this is overwhelming and continuous throughout recorded history.

Economic socialism, which would make our lives better, take from the rich and give to us

The only way out of this is a system which prevents such gross inequality in the first place – preferably by denying monopoly, usury, free trade, the concentration of psycopaths in power, and all the other fundamental things that lead to the wealth inequality.

Just taking from one hand to give to the other is never going to work under any pretense. It just sows the seeds for the next conflagration.

There was a podcast on here about versions of democracy that are both realistic and a solution to these problems. I wish I could remember how to find it.

Yes, all the left-wing totalitarian ‘utopian’ movements share many characteristics. You would think humanity would have learned something by now, but this disease may be inherent in human nature and has to be stamped out, over and over again. The problem is that it took 70 years for Russia to free itself … although the Communist Party is still there.

  10. JonL says:

It’s older than that. Woke self righteousness and virtue signalling are just today’s zombie reanimation of New Testament Pharasaism, which I’m sure was old even then. We can see them in public, on the Internet, and at podiums at Hollywood awards ceremonies. ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—republicans, Trump supporters, racists—or even like this deplorable right in front of me!’

    What goes around comes around.

  11. Step back and look at the French situation from a distance. It was a struggle between factions that both wanted power and when either had it, those in power lived well and those out of power lived poorly. That’s the whole reason for having a government.

It’s the concept of government itself that is the problem, at least when government gets so large that it requires representatives to make it function. Government in a tiny community where everyone gets to speak is one thing, but when it’s institutionalized it becomes the monster the entire world keeps trying to tame with a new version of the same problem.

The US Fed Gov, for example, is too large and needs to disappear. State governments are also too large in most cases and should be broken up. When things are done at smaller and smaller levels is when the amount of power being haggled over is confined to doing only so much damage should the wrong decision be made. It’s when you have a Fed Gov that it can afford to fight a 20 years war in Afghanistan and the people paying the bill have absolutely no say over its prosecution.

If people feel that they MUST have a government, then make it so small that there are no representatives. Direct democracy with the public’s right to state what the agenda is and to strike down any gov’t proposal would go a long way toward killing off the parasites in the political class that live extremely well while doing no productive work.

  12. History does not repeat, but it often rhymes.

Perhaps our Thermidorean reaction has already come and gone in the person of Donald J. Trump, or it may have farther to run, but what is obvious to me is that our predicament is beyond democratic means to resolve.

“We” have tied our nation in a knot that the tongue cannot untie. This knot will only be undone as was the Gordian.

We are headed for the rhyming verse of 18 Brumaire (that is when Napoleon administered a “whiff of grapeshot,” to quote Carlyle, and brought and end to the Revolution).

This verse has rhymed throughout history, the only question is to the exact nature of our “deliverer.” Will he be an Augustus or Lenin, bringing stability of a sort, or might he be a Napoleon or Hitler, with war on his mind?

Thermidore was not the end of the Revolution for France, nor will it be for us.

  13. This author ignores the fact that antifa is permitted and encouraged by the feds as a weapon against their enemies. The “far left” isn’t a serious threat without neolibs (who actually have institutional power) using them. Antifa is just a bunch of social misfits and spiteful mutants

  14. The Jacobins . . . strong-armed priests into getting married

Antifa is very different than the Jacobins, for one the Jacobins promoted a type of populism, although many common people were against them, still they were a type of populist movement. Antifa on the other hand are anti-populist, I would consider them more of a cult than a political movement or cultural movement as the Jacobins were. Antifa is also manned by mostly delusional ignorant people who don’t understand how the power structure of society is set up, they believe, like many liberals do, that the highest level of the power structure in America is right-wing, even nazi in character, when in reality the power elite are and have been liberals for a long time who support antifa because antifa attacks things they dislike, i.e., conservative and traditional + religious based ideals.

Where are the Jews in all this? If they were playing no part, it shows a society does not need Jews to have perverse politics and culture. As another commentator pointed out. The blacks in Haiti were legally and in reality slaves. No Chauvin victim there. The French Empire were generally speaking real bastards to non whites. I mean bastards like William the Bastard. No doubt the Haitians are taught at school national pride in their liberation. The truth like all history is messy. They were legally emancipated and required to pay a huge indemnity to the French for their liberation.

But I’ve heard the straw that broke the camel’s back and sparked the Haitian slave rebellion was the slave owners’ decision to stop giving slaves Sundays off so they could go to church. I don’t think it makes me particularly woke to assert that the Haitian slaves were justified in rising up violently.

  21. @lloyd

Apart from Spinoza’s influence in Enlightenment thinking, the Enlightenment was an overwhelmingly white intellectual movement. And Spinoza just happened to articulate ideas that thoughtful white people of his time and afterwards were already struggling with, when no one had to read his books, translate them into other languages, discuss his ideas and apply them to areas he hadn’t addressed; they did that on their own initiative, even though Spinoza was considered disreputable. A scholar of the Dutch Enlightenment named Wim Klever argues that John Locke in his writings cribbed and restated Spinoza’s main arguments, without attribution, to try to make Spinoza’s insights more socially acceptable, for example.

We have a while to go, years, before he can come. First the financial bubble(s) must break and suffering must be great enough that people will accept the yoke of authority so that suffering will end (for many if not most).

Suffering cannot end for all. Right now too many people are still under the delusion that there can be a free lunch. There cannot be – someone has to pay.

Our Napoleon must have “permission” (popular support) to decide who will be winners and losers and power to impose his decision. We are a long way from that day

  23. @obwandiyag

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Leftist Marxist socialism will never work in this far too large, far too diverse, much too degenerate, Evil Empire. Half the people who inhabit this growing Biden-Harris multi-culti hell hole have nothing in common with the other half. Both sides resent, even hate, each other.

Socialism can only possibly work in smaller homogenous countries, where borders are respected and defended – not flagging empires being overrun by Haitian and African savages. Cultural Marxism from the Far Left, Antifa-BLM style, means nothing but tyranny for Heritage Americans. Secession is a necessity. Otherwise, our children and grandchildren have no future. Elections cannot save us. Time is getting short.

Your mistake is in believing that the popularity and notoriety of ideas derives from an organic process of “free discourse.” The Jews didn’t have to write anything themselves, to promote the ideas they wanted promoted. The notion that the irreligious and materialistic notions of the Enlightenment would translate into the excesses of the French Revolution and the history of revolutionary movements doesn’t really explain anything. Infidelity and materialism were nothing new. Nor did they ever truly have the level of acceptance among the common people so as to motivate the fanaticism of the revolutionaries. If one cannot see in 2021 that the conspiratorial view of history is correct, one will never see it. Edmund Burke hinted at the bankers sponsoring secret societies such as the Illuminati.

The historical narrative of the “The Enlightenment” does not really differentiate between scientific discovery and political and “philosophical” agitation. It does not distinguish between “the people” and the secret societies. It does not, in short, tell the truth about what really happened. There can be little doubt that Jews played a significant role in the background in the POLITICAL INTRIGUES that led to the French Revolution, for the simple reason that they emerged at the end of the process in 1815 as a dominant financial power in Europe. Before the Revolution, gentiles were the most powerful men, after the Revolution, Jews were.

The more you look at the antifa the more they really seem to be a collective manifestation of cluster B personality disorders rather than any coherent political force. Just look at the bios from the ones Andy Ngo picks out.

Steve Sailer famously called libertarianism ‘applied autism’. I think antifa is just ‘applied cluster B personality disorders’.

The ones with APD just like breaking things and hate cops because they keep committing violent crimes. The ones with BPD love the ones with APD and are easily indoctrinated to hysteria of any ideology, the prevailing one coming from Tumblr and Twitter (Themselves just collective breeding ponds of BPDers) is hysterical and meshes well with the neo-antifa who seem mostly concerned with social permissiveness. (Which, of course, is also a route to anti-solidarity and a path towards greater inequality but the neo-antifa aren’t too smart or perhaps too honest in what they want) The NPDers are the medics. Though all cluster Bs have traits from all 3.

This is fun to them. They don’t care if they ‘win’.

When we find a leader who relishes the fight. Instead of empty platitudes about making things better, our leader is going to come to the forefront by promising a long, hard fight. The way forward will be hard and will require personal sacrifice (which the beer/porn/Youtube/ProSports crowd isn’t ready to make now).

When unemployment is 15% and rising, when White people are told basically to not bother applying for jobs as anything other than Cis White is preferred. That’s when our leader shows up promising a fight.

  35. A big change is coming to America, but it won’t be a copy of the French Revolution. There will not be a lot of blood and violence.
What will happen is that China will so dominate the rest of the World, that China will become the master blueprint for other nations that also want to be successful; in that, the resources of nations will be directed to the best advantage of the bulk of a nation’s population. America’s model called for allocation of a nation’s resources to advantage a tiny minority of elites and wealthy, instead of the majority.
This is the essential difference between socialism and capitalism. And capitalism is about to join other older, failed systems such as slavery and feudalism which also once prevailed in the very long march of humanity towards democracy and equality.
In the years ahead, the vast majority of Americans will experience a poverty compared to that of the average Chinese person and it will finally occur to the average American that this relative poverty is the price they pay for feality to the “free market”. The rich will scream, but America will turn to a planned economy – and will be damned glad that they did – a few will lose, but most will gain.
