The Great and the Good are furious about Donald Trump’s conduct at the G7 Summit, as journalists can’t believe an American president had the temerity to stand up for his nation’s interests at an international conference [One ‘rant,’ rough talks sour G7 mood in confrontations with Trump, Reuters, June 9, 2018]. They are especially incensed that President Trump broached re-admitting Russia into the summit, with the arch-traitor John McCain condemning the Commander-in-Chief on Twitter [Trump calls for Russia to be reinstated to G-7, threatens allies on trade, by Damian Paletta, Anne Gearan and John Wagner, Washington Post, June 8, 2018].

Yet for all the talk of President Trump having problems with “allies,” it is the European Union that is facing rebellion within its own ranks. As President Trump recognized on his Twitter account, the new government of Italy is now one of his strongest international supporters.

Italy also joined President Trump’s call for Russia to be readmitted into the G-7 [Italian PM breaks with EU, backs Trump’s call for Russia to return to G8, by David Herszenhorn, Politico, June 8, 2018].

Though the election of President Trump was a shock to the global Establishment, the victory of the new Italian government may prove to be even more important. The Five Star Movement and the Lega party, both of which are best described as “populist,” have joined forces to create a government that is prompting speculation about the breakup of the European Union [Italy’s new government could be the force that finally breaks Europe, by Sebastian Mallaby, Washington Post, May 23, 2018].

Obviously, immigration patriots are most interested in the new interior minister, Matteo Salvini of Lega. He has already promised to deport half a million illegals, telling them to “pack your bags”. [Italy’s new government wants to deport 500,000 people, The Economist, June 7, 2018] Salvini also has a compelling message on what NATO should be used for, calling for collective European self-defense on immigration rather than scare mongering about Russia. “Italy is under attack from the south, not from the east,” he said recently [Italy to ask NATO to help deal with migrant flows: Salvini, by Crispian Balmer, Reuters, June 8, 2018].

He is also already preventing migrant smugglers (what the MSM calls “rescue ships”) from continuing to deliver Third World invaders on Italian shores [Italy’s Matteo Salvini shuts ports to migrant rescue ship, BBC, June 10, 2018]

Yet it is not just immigration policy that put this populist coalition in power. Lega is the more nationalist of the two ruling parties (despite originally starting as a Northern secessionist party.) It also tends to have what Americans would consider more conservative economic policies and during the election, was campaigning alongside Silvio Berlusconi’s center-right party. The Five Star Movement is more idiosyncratic, with environmentalism and more liberal economic policies among its planks, including the promise of a basic income [Italy’s 5-Star Movement defends guaranteed income pledge, by Michele Bertelli, DW, April 10, 2018].

But both are firmly opposed to the austerity measures being imposed by the European Union, even as the supranational body created a huge migration crisis that disproportionately hurts Italy.

Even reporters otherwise inclined to condemn nationalism reluctantly admit Italian voters aren’t exactly being irrational. As Kenneth Rapoza notes sadly:

Italy chose nationalist leaders because of Brussels. It’s their fault. No one is voting for Lega and Five Star because they hate globalization. You don’t see Italians rising up in protest against Chinese companies making inroads there. Instead, you see them protesting austerity being ordered from on high by people none of them elected. Instead, you see them protesting against hundreds upon hundreds of migrant men—not migrant families, not migrant women and children—piling in on Zodiacs. That is how Lega and Five Star came to be. Because globalization hasn’t changed in the last 10 years. But since the housing crisis and since the destruction of Libya and, to a lesser degree, Syria, austerity and immigration policy has.

[What Really Worries People About The Italy-EU Fight, Forbes, June 7, 2018]

The Italian people’s fury against Brussels wasn’t helped when key EU institutions pressured Italian President Sergio Mattarella to initially reject a Five Star Movement/Lega government and try to impose yet another pro-austerity finance minister. This might well have triggered new elections, except the resulting furor likely would have led to an even greater majority for the populist coalition [Italy in fresh political chaos amid calls to impeach the president, AFP, May 28, 2018]. Caving to a Lega/Five Star Movement Government was probably the least destructive thing the EU could do at this point.

However, as Srdja Trifkovic points out, even as the corporate media is trying to boost the EU, the Union still faces existential danger.

In the long run, the oligarchs in Brussels and bankers in Frankfurt now face serious threats on many fronts. Brexit, the new coalition in in Italy, growth of AfD in Germany and popularity of Ciudadanos in Spain, along with a defiant Victor Orban in Hungary and his like-minded colleagues in Poland, herald a new era.

[Italy’s “populist” government, Chronicles, June 06, 2018]

Rachel Donadio at The Atlantic hopes international institutions will keep the new government in check on economics, but concedes the EU can’t do much on immigration. She writes: “In the economy, certain European rules could prevent Italy from going totally off the rails. When it comes to immigration, things could get rough—at least in rhetoric” [It’s the Right Wing’s Italy Now, June 6, 2018].

Yet if the EU tries to enforce these “rules,” Italy could easily call their bluff. In the wake of Brexit, the EU can ill afford another member-state breaking with Brussels, particularly given current developments in Eastern Europe.

Italy is a great example of the paradigm promoted by Steve Bannon and others: the current divide in politics is not Left versus Right but populist versus globalist. [Bannon to French far-right party: ‘Let them call you racist… Wear it as a badge of honor,’ by Elaine Ganley, Chicago Tribune, March 10, 2018] Together, Lega and the Five Star Movement have built a powerful coalition of those who feel both economically and socially disenfranchised and have successfully conquered their country. Of course, this being Italy, the coalition is unstable and only time will tell if the coalition can hold together. But for now, it shows that innovative policy making (such as championing basic income), populist economics, and nationalist policies on immigration and sovereignty are a winning combination.

Which is precisely what Donald Trump seemed to represent during the 2016 election. He promised that if he won, the GOP would become a “workers’ party,” pledging not to cut entitlements like Social Security [Trump: GOP will become ‘worker’s party’ under me, by Nick Gass, Politico, May 26, 2016].

Yet, while economic growth is strong, President Trump has not confronted Wall Street since entering the Oval Office—instead, he invited Goldman Sachs executives into his Cabinet. Instead of taking some populist policies from the Left, President Trump has mostly carried water for the corporate GOP Establishment, notably during the disastrous health care debacle.

Trump has been fairly strong on trade and has made some promising moves on immigration (though we still don’t have a wall). But he’s going to have to do more to keep the loyalty of the working-class voters he inspired in 2016.

The MSM has shown it will never accept President Trump’s legitimacy—it is best he keeps his populist credentials by delivering economically for his supporters by defending entitlements, keeping a tight labor market through immigration enforcement, and doing more to cut health care costs.

Indeed, if it didn’t threaten GOP orthodoxy, it would be politically successful if President Trump also started broaching ideas such as more infrastructure spending and maybe even basic income. (Fund it by taxing the entertainment industry).

During the 2016 campaign, Matteo Salvini visited Donald Trump and pledged his support. [Donald Trump gets my backing, says Italy’s Matteo Salvini, by Stephanie Kirchgaessner, The Guardian, April 26, 2016] At the time, it looked like a European fringe candidate drawing inspiration from America.

Now it is time for the American president to draw inspiration from Europe. Ironically, the best way to beat the globalists is to take populism global.

Thanks for the great article, Sir. You are so right.

One major impediment Europeans face is hate speech laws that put candidates in prison if right wing parties or people even dare talk about the harms of 3rd world immigration.

Right now, UK and France and Germany are more like totalitarian police states, where people are imprisoned for speaking against immigration (or the Holohoax).

They had poor Alison Chabloz convicted in UK. In France, author Hervé Ryssen is facing 17 months in prison for his tweets.

We need to expose these witch trials.

The Europeans need to wake up and vote for the right-wing parties, for sure. Italy is a good example.

The first thing the right leaning parties must promise, and this must be their platform, is to repeal all these hate speech laws that criminalize political speech, besides banning immigration and deporting aliens.

Such laws do not belong in the modern civilized world.

Well French Jews are naturally going to be touchy about anti-Antisemitism when there is a lot of violence towards Jews in France. Sure, it’s mostly coming from Muslims (and conservative Israeli commentators acknowledge this) but people aren’t particularly rational when their survival instincts are triggered.

The nationalist right can only fight so many battles at once, and restricting immigration is more important than getting into battles over the Holocaust.

  6. I wish I could agree that the EU was facing “serious threats” but I doubt it.
Perhaps Italy can improve its immigration problems, however in most part the EU & (especially) the Euro are straight jackets.
Odds are we will see a replay of Syritza. Yes, the Italians have more leverage than the Greeks. But Brussels/Germany control the Euro – Italy will need to fight tooth & claw to escape austerity.
I hope they have the guts to stand up to the EU establishment….
The Euro is a biblical sized curse.

  7. I miss a few things:
    – the new Dutch party FvD, just two seats now, fifteen, according to polls, were elections held now.
Together with Wilders’ PVV some 30 seats of the 150.
Both parties anti EU, anti euro, anti immigration, anti Islam
    – the Belgium goverment just exists because of a coalition with NVA, also anti immigration
    – that Austria just closed 28 mosques, and expelled 40 imams, with the statement that there is no room in Austria for parrallel cultures
    – the Hungarian government that forbade Soros’ Open Society organisation, Soros moved his office to Berlin. BTW, Soros owns the Guardian

But perhaps the most important thing is not mentioning the disaster, economically, euro.
As Van Rompuy said, if he realised what he said, I wonder ‘not enough thought has been given to the ECONOMICAL consequences of the euro’.
In the good old days the southern countries, including France, could solve their economic problems through devaluation, the euro makes this impossible.

What the euro did make possible for these southern countries is to borrow euro’s, lenders saw no problem, expected a bail out through the northern countries.
Soros already spoke to the Germans about their moral obligation to save Italy, as he did about Greece.
Suppose he meant ‘moral obligation to save Soros’s loans to Italy’.

It should be pointed out that the new Italian government has stated that it has no intention of leaving the EU or abandoning the euro and I couldn’t imagine Italian voters approving either course of action. I’m always amused at the way in which Americans like Mr Kirkpatrick tell us out of one side of their mouths that we should “defend our national sovereignty” against the dastardly EU (except if we’re Ukrainian, in which case we don’t have any national sovereignty!) and then proceed to meddle in our domestic politics. The Italian government has already surrendered to the Sorosians. When the migrant ship refused to turn toward Spain because the ship had run out of food, Italy blinked.

There was an obvious alternate solution. Send helicopters out to resupply the migrant ship so it can’t claim starvation and lack of fuel. Italy could have done this with its own military, or contracted with private firms.

  27. Italy has a black problem because of their colonial behavior. No doubt the destabilizing events occurring in the region of the MS and in parts of africa matter —-

In the US the problem are several fold and immigration is a top priority in my view. But it goes far beyond that. It requires an thorough look of our entire system of economics, including the impacts of minimum wage laws.

We should be exporting at balance more than we import, the number for growth used to be 3% or more. If we are going to invest in infrastructure where the money comes from to do it matters. like most things government spending — it’s not economic growth, it tax dollars from private citizens. I thought this was wrong too, because I could not find any news claiming it and everyone says the ship is on it’s way to Spain now. But, I think he may be technically right, I did find a mention or two buried in 5th paragraphs that out of the apx. 630 migrants on the boat, 500 were removed from the boat by the Italian coast guard and taken into Italy, and the boat with only 130 left is on the way to Spain.

It is disappointing, but realistically I don’t think it matters. Just yesterday the Coast Guard themselves took in another 1000 or so I have read. Salvini is not all powerful, has to deal with these Conte and Di Miao guys and also has only been office about a week. It’s just a starting move. He has I think banned all foreign NGO ships smuggling migrants from the Libyan coast to Italy from docking in Italian ports. It’s not about 1 boat load of migrants it’s about hundreds of thousands there already with more coming. We will see but this may hinder the international NGO boats from some of the most blatant immigrant smuggling but it does not restrict Italian boats nor prevent the Italian Coast Guard from rescuing into Italy immigrants already in Italian waters. Ultimately more consequential will be his pledge to deport 500,000 who are already there, probably these 500 with them. Although he may not be able to do that in this government with the 5 star movement.

I don’t buy polistra’s fatalistic black pill that Salvini has surrendered. He just started.

Then you have the hangers on ranging from middle-class wannabees to other people of color who are covered by the correct type of Neanderthal silky hair…its a scream I tell you.

Now back to those refugees because none of them are economic migrants. In every single one of the countries that these ‘too black immigrants’ are running from, in every single case the white anglo and their fake zionists bastard countrymen along with the rest of the white European leaders from Canada to Australia and back again to wherever, are the instigators of the wars and destruction taking place in the first world region. The Western Third World, third because Africa birthed the greatest civilisation ever from which Europe managed to sneak up from behind, sodomise the planet and then declare themselves the master of everything that moves.

Once you white people at least put right your egregious wrongs then any African/Black/Muslim that is so stupid as to want to live in Europe is welcome to whatever hospitality you wish to afford

Oh shucks…my wise words have to go through moderation…oh well that that then they most likely will not see the light of day…but I am secure in the knowledge that these words will fly around…too much for one person to bear

    @Charles Pewitt

Christendom under attack…WTF…its more like CHRISTENDOM ON THE FUCKING ATTACK.

Please point to one, Just one African or Middle Eastern tank on or near the shores of any European country (Also remember most African nations are xtian especially Ethiopia (Cush) the birthplace of the long tale known as the Bible)

I can show you probably 10k European tanks in the Middle East and Africa, never mind the ones on Russian and Chinese borders and then the rest of the world courtesy of your plunderers in chief the good ol US of AmeriKKKA

You people are sick sick sick, head sick foot sick and well there is no heart to bother about here.

Just remember You lot need Africa and the Middle East more than they need you and if you lot think you r gonna just gonna be tolerated for much longer…get ready for a BIG SHOCK.

Nature is against you now that you have fucked up everything
The rest of the planet adores you in hatred…I know you can work that one out…although the good book says his people are ruled by a foolish nation if you believe that sort of thing
And finally the good Lord himself has reached the end of his tether or narrative should I say.
