The Northman is a cinematic depiction of Viking society in the late ninth century. Co-written and directed by Robert Eggers (who previously directed two horror movies) and starring Alexander Skarsgård (who had long been interested in Viking history and mythology and was instrumental in getting Eggers involved), it is a refreshing attempt at historical realism in an age where having an all-White cast is seen as culturally subversive. Worse for our current cultural literati, it provides a positive portrayal of what would be seen as extreme “toxic” masculinity among White men at a time when emasculated White men are common throughout the media. Surprisingly perhaps, the film has gotten excellent mainstream reviews, with many commenting on its stunning visual qualities (it was filmed in Northern Ireland) and its gripping storyline. I completely agree. It kept me enthralled from beginning to end. If you want to see the movie, I suggest not reading this until after you’ve seen it. Lots of plot giveaways.

What interests me here is how accurately the film comports with Viking culture as presented as a prototypical Indo-European culture in Chapter 2 of my book, Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition.

Swearing an Oath

Fundamentally, The Northman is a tale of revenge—a common enough human emotion, but here with the added twist that Amleth (the main character, played by Skarsgård) has sworn an oath to avenge his father, King Aurvandill. Aurvandill had been killed by his brother, Amleth’s uncle Fjölnir who then seized the king’s wife and property. Revenge is thus Amleth’s all-encompassing duty.

It is difficult for us to imagine the importance and seriousness of swearing a public oath in a religious ceremony in traditional Indo-European (I-E) culture. I-E culture was fundamentally individualist—one of the two powerful strands of Western European individualism, along with northern hunter-gatherers. And within I-E cultures, reputation, in this case as an 0ath-keeper) is far more important than kinship in determining one’s status. Thus avenging his father is an absolute, religiously tinged duty, far more important than, say, seeking a quiet family life. Duty above all else. At the end of the movie, Amleth has succeeded in escaping his uncle’s farm where he and others had been held as slaves and after killing many of his uncle’s people, including his eldest son Thorir, his wife (Amleth’s mother, played by Nicole Kidman), and her young son by Fjölnir, Gunnar. But he hadn’t killed his uncle, so he goes back to his uncle’s farm for the final confrontation, despite earnest pleading from his pregnant (with twins) wife to accompany her to safety among anther branch of Amleth’s kin.

Oaths were a central component of the Männerbund (other terms: korios, comitatus), “the warrior brotherhood bound by oath to one another and to their ancestors during a ritually mandated raid.”[2]Ibid., 364.
()
The formation of voluntary war-bands held together by oaths, camaraderie, and a common self-interest was a fundamental characteristic of these chiefdoms. This was a time when social status and rank were still openly determined by one’s heroic deeds and by the number of followers or clients one could attract and retain.[4]Ibid.
(Duchesne, The Uniqueness of Western Civilization, 398.)

In the absence of kinship ties, reputation becomes the standard for relationships. Andrew Fraser notes that oath-taking was and remains a peculiarly English pre-occupation, so much so that “the commonplace spectacle of Third World immigrants reciting oaths of allegiance at naturalization ceremonies is calculated to warm the hearts of WASPs committed heart and soul to the constitutionalist creed of civic nationalism.” Oath-taking is a public affirmation that is fundamentally about one’s reputation. It is, of course, a bit of WASP egoism to assume other peoples have a similar sense of public trustworthiness:

WASPs are trusting souls. For that very reason they can be exploited easily by those who promise one thing and do another. … Mass Third World immigration imposes enormous risks upon Anglo-Saxon societies grounded in unique patterns of trusting behavior that evolved over many centuries. If newcomers do not accept the burdens entailed by the civic culture of the host society—most notably the need to forswear one’s pre-existing racial, ethnic and religious allegiances—they are bound to reduce the benefits of good citizenship for the host Anglo-Saxon nation. (Andrew Fraser, The WASP Question (Arktos, 2011), 57, 64)

All evidence indicates that these groups will not forswear such allegiances, any more than Jews have forsworn their ethnic and religious allegiances despite centuries of living among Europeans.

Berserkers and Shape-Shifting

Two characteristics of I-E culture apparent in the film that always struck me are the berserkers and shape-shifting. Young boys “had to go out and become like a band of dogs or wolves—to raid their enemies.”[1]Ibid., 239; emphasis in text.
()
All young men went out on raids as part of their initiation into the group. Berserkers attacked their enemies in a trance-like frenzy that is apparent in several scenes. Emotional intensity at a fever pitch that was embedded in religion. Odin the god of the Männerbünde is also the “god of battle rage.”[5]Hans-Peter Hasenfratz, Barbarian Rites, trans. Michael Moynihan (Rochester, VT: Inner Traditions, 2011; original German edition, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany: Verlag Herder, 1992), 49..

The concept is connected to a belief in shape-shifting wherein the soul is disengaged from the body and can roam as a wolf or a bear, at which time it can engage in superhuman heroic deeds. Snorri Sturluson, the medieval chronicler of the Norse sagas, writes: “Woden’s men went without hauberks [armor] and raged like dogs or wolves. They bit their shields and were strong like bears or bulls. They killed men but neither fire nor iron hurt them. This is called berserkgangr.”[6]Michael Speidel, “‘Berserks’: A History of Indo-European ‘Mad Warriors,’” Journal of World History 13, no. 2 (1992): 253–90, 253–54. Young men were initiated into the Männerbünde by mock hanging and were taught berserker techniques.[7]Hasenfratz, Barbarian Rites, 64–65.

Hypermasculinity of Norse Society

Indo-European culture was far from sexually egalitarian—what one might term “hyper-masculine.” Lotte Hedeager’s Iron Age Myth and Materiality: An Archaeology of Scandinavia, AD 400–1000 paints a picture of a completely militarized society in which male sexual penetration was a marker of power, while being penetrated was, for a male, the ultimate insult.[9]Lotte Hedeager, Iron Age Myth and Materiality: An Archaeology of Scandinavia, AD 400–1000 (London: Routledge, 2011). Accusing a man of having been sodomized was a grievous accusation, with the same penalty as for murder. Older males lacking the power or ability to penetrate took on the status of women and were even ridiculed by slaves. Women were seen as legitimate spoils of war and raiding, and such women were typically enslaved.

ORDER IT NOW

This is relevant to the plot of The Northman: Amleth’s mother, Queen Gudrún, was originally captured by Amleth’s father, Aurvandill, whom Gudrún describes as a rapist whom she passionately hated. When Aurvandill is killed by his brother Fjölnir, she becomes Fjölnir’s wife and bears him a son. She has much more positive feelings toward Fjölnir than for Aurvandill. Women as spoils of war.

The following passage from Hedeager gets at this hyper-masculine, completely militarized culture that appears to have been characteristic of I-E culture in northwestern Europe at least from 2500 bc until the Middle Ages:

In the extremely competitive and aggressive Scandinavian society in which blood feuds were taking place everywhere, often lasting for many years and several generations …, the concept of honour evolved around reputation, respect and prestige [i.e., not one’s place in a kinship group. as was typically the case in non-individualist cultures]. Social life and reputation were hierarchically organised and arranged according to dominance and submission, powerful and powerless. At the bottom of the social scale, female thralls [slaves] were routinely subjected to rape and traded as sexual subjects. In the account of a Viking market at Volga in 922, the Arab diplomat Ibn Fadlan describes how the Vikings (the Scandinavian Rus) regularly had sex with their slaves, often in public, and in groups of both sexes. This activity took place both in front of potential buyers and their own formal partners, whether wives or girlfriends, who seemed unaffected … . Rape of a free woman, however, was a serious matter … .

Within this social hierarchy, power was explicitly connected with metaphors for penetration—by the sword, penis, or tongue. Those who penetrated—with words, with weapons, or with the phallus—were the powerful (“males”); those who became penetrated were the powerless (“females”). In a social setting, sexuality provided a symbolic code for dominance and submission, throwing light on power and thus status differences … . The most severe accusations in the Old Norse society evolved around “effeminacy” and penetration, implying that sexuality and hostility were two sides of the same coin.[10]Ibid., 115–18.
(Lotte Hedeager, Iron Age Myth and Materiality: An Archaeology of Scandinavia, AD 400–1000 (London: Routledge, 2011).)

I was surprised by the scene toward the end when Amleth reveals himself to Gudrún as her son. I expected Gudrún to be overjoyed at seeing her long-lost son, but instead she lashed out at him and admitted that she had asked Fjölnir to kill Aurvandill and Amleth, and that she prefers Fjölnir and their new son Gunnar. Amleth kills her after she attacks him, and he accidentally kills Gunnar. Assuming this could actually happen, it would indicate that despite the relatively low position of women, they could seek power by influencing men. The evolutionary psychology of her choice is a bit muddled; both Amleth and Gunnar are her sons and if anything, she should choose to favor the older (because he is already of reproductive age), but I suppose the hatred engendered by Aurvandill raping her overshadowed everything else—an example where a proximal mechanism (hatred of being raped, attraction to another’s relative kindness) trumps ultimate evolutionary logic. She was a prize in the fratricidal war between Fjölnir and Aurvandill, but apparently Fjölnir was relatively kind to her. Nevertheless, within the context of the story, the audience had been led to see Amleth’s quest as noble, to hope for his success, and to see Fjölnir as evil. The sudden reversal toward the end is jarring.

I-E Social Mobility

Another point of intersection with traditional I-E culture is that social mobility was possible. Men who had talent as warriors could move up in the culture—essentially it was a free market culture based on military talent, either organizational or fighting ability. Here Amleth is chosen as a slave by Fjölnir because of his physique and presumed fighting ability, and later, Amleth is on the side of Fjölnir and Thorir in an extremely violent game (Icelandic: knattleikr) where players club their opponents to gain an advantage, quite possibly with lethal consequences. Amleth excels at the game and comes to the rescue of the young Gunnar who is about to be murderously clubbed by an opponent. As a reward, Thorir lightens Amleth’s work load, and he allows him to supervise others and to be married to the beautiful Olga with whom he had already developed a bond. But he tells Amleth that he will always be a slave.

This reminds us that I-E culture had a strong role for reciprocity rather than total despotism. At the heart of I-E culture was the practice of gift-giving as a reward for military accomplishment. Successful leaders were expected to reward their followers handsomely.[11]Anthony, The Horse, the Wheel, and Language, 238. Oath-bound contracts of reciprocal relationships were characteristic of I-Es and this practice continued with the various I-E groups that invaded Europe. These contracts formed the basis of patron-client relationships based on reputation—leaders could expect loyal service from their followers, and followers could expect equitable rewards for their service to the leader. This is critical because these relationships are based on talent and accomplishment, not ethnicity (i.e., rewarding people on the basis of kinship distance) or despotic subservience (where followers are essentially unfree). But progress from slave to completely free was slow, and, according to some scholars, could take several generations. Amleth will always be a slave in Fjölnir’s eyes.

ORDER IT NOW

Another thing that surprised and frankly horrified me was the aftermath of a successful raid on a Rus fortified village when many of the villagers were herded into a thatch-roofed building and then burned alive. The raiders made off with booty and some slaves (presumably the able-bodied men and desirable [fertile] females) but seem to have murdered the rest—men, women, and children. Such behavior was not typical of many of the I-E groups that invaded Europe. Instead of simply raiding, conquering I-E groups typically developed settled among the people they conquered and developed relationships of domination and subordination between the new military elites and the conquered peoples, providing protection in return for service. This is a prescription for feudal-type societies dominated by military elites with mutual obligations to the people they dominate, but in which kinship ties between elites and the people they dominate are relatively unimportant and ultimately permeable. But the raid on the Rus village is not intended as a permanent settlement, with disastrous consequences for the villagers

* * *

The Northman depicts a society that is quite foreign to contemporary sensibilities. It’s unlikely many of us would want to live in it—unless one was able to be a male in a successful Männerbund. But there’s no denying that the society selected for strong men—something we definitely need now.

The deep question is how such a violent, hierarchical culture developed eventually into the highly egalitarian Scandinavian cultures we see today. My short answer is that the I-E’s dominated a far more egalitarian hunter-gatherer majority and that the latter eventually came to dominate the area—a theory spelled out in Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition.

Just to add, since “mock hanging” sounds pretty bland, that in the quoted book it says :

mock hanging was a technique for inducing ecstatic experiences. (Such experiences are induced in other cultures through ascetic and meditative practices, specific body postures, dance, various intoxicants, and narcotic drinks.) The prospective initiate was hoisted up by a rope around the neck until he lost consciousness, and then he was lowered again. With this, he experienced the “little death”—a new, deeper dimension of existence, transcendent existence, the spiritual reality.

This was real, ritualistic hanging, producing the high which autoerotic asphyxia maniacs look for, but in this context the high was harnessed into maintaining a specific religious outlook.

Interesting comments on the evolution of the Swedes into a highly egalitarian folk.

The inflection point appears to be the battle of Poltava, 1709 where Karl XII lead his 7000 crack infantry (Caroleans) into battle with Peter the Great and were annihilated by the levee en masse that Peter created. As a result of the battle Sweden’s military elite sorta imploded the King went to live in exile in Moldavia and the Swedish in Stockholm itself were almost invaded across the Baltic by Peter’s fleet. They became very different people after losing at Poltava. The Caroleans were very much like Vikings. A caste elite of trained farm owner/specialized warriors. Swedes were the dominant land power in Europe.

As so many things, European cultures seem to have ended in the Steppe at the hand of Cossacks and peasant Rus. Napoleon ended the glory of French militarism by invading and Hitler cut the heart out of Prussian tradition and lands by invading.

    The East is a career.

  7. A peculiar piece of writing!

Haven’t read anything as much homoerotic in a long while – masculine, male sexual penetration, militarized culture – this is a homo talk. Excuse me for being honest, but this is how it is. Furthermore, it is a well known fact – and historical examples prove it, that a militarized culture is, as it has been at all times, a homoerotic culture. For instance, the Spartans were brought up to be warriors and cultivated masculine traits, and it resulted in a huge number of homosexuals among them – the stories like that of the three hundred lovers, who fought shoulder to shoulder are well known as well. Another example is the culture of Bushido. There a number of stories about Samurai lovers, and there is a great film, which explores this theme in the most artful fashion.

Yet another peculiar opinion, coming from an educated man, is the notion of the Rus people being the Vikings because the idea of the Scandinavian Rus people is based on a legend, of which no factual historical evidence has ever been found. There is no resemblance between the Russian and the Scandinavian languages, and there is no mention of the Rus people in the Scandinavian chronicles. The genetic research has demonstrated that neither in Russia, nor in Ukraine is there a presence of the Scandinavian DNA, while at the same time in the regions where the Vikings indeed migrated to, which is supported with dependable evidence, there is a notable presence of the Scandinavian R1a-Z284 and R1a-L664 haplogroup.

Therefore, the idea that the Scandinavian Rus people ever existed is nothing but a bogus. And of course, such an idea is a product of narcissism of the Scandinavian people, and as we know it is from narcissism the homoerotic healing originates, and there is no other culture in the whole world, where the homosexual men feel as much at home as in the Scandinavian culture, among the true descendants of the masculine Viking warriors. And the Germans, the descendants of the masculine Vandals, are breathing down their neck. No secret is made of the fact that homosexual men admire being athletic and spend a lot of time training and pushing weight, to make them look strong. The ancient Greek were almost idolizing strong men and it was homoerotic.

The point is, what the author is advertising here?

Kevin, your theory that modern Scandinavian egalitarianism developed because of a hunter gatherer majority population doesn’t really hold up.
Again, Scandinavian egalitarianism is purely a *modern* phenomenon no more than a century and a half years old. It was promoted, pushed and implemented by political elites, and only political elites when party political systems developed.

  15. How these ancients really lived and interacted is an interesting subject to ponder. Did this movie get it right? Maybe efforts were made in costume and set design, but, overall, too much melodrama in the dialogue and too much Hollywood seeps in. I found the actors boring, as well as the script, which was predictable. The “why” of it all is not properly explored – the characters are shallow. Film is still a relatively new art form – this won’t be remembered as THE great movie about Vikings, I’m afraid.

  16. @Thomas Faber

A reasonable supposition I think, though the Scandinavians did not until recently treat their Finns and Sami in an egalitarian manner. (The Danes had their Arctic minorities at a distance in Greenland as opposed to within the country proper as in Norway and Sweden.) What I take issue with here is the idea that hunter-gatherers would ever provide a majority, they are by nature (of their lifeways) not populous. The Scandinavians farmed and that provides a nutritional basis for an expanding population that fish and reindeer can’t provide.

There are a number of different theories as to why Scandinavia became Christian – what is not in doubt, however, is that it was done more or less voluntarily, and starting with the rulers. Some say that it was out of political expediency (to avoid being attacked by strong Christian neighboring countries), and some think that it was because the rulers actually thought Christianity superior to their own religion after having spoken with missionaries. There are other stories, too.

It is interesting to note that in the beginning, Christ was sort of incorporated into the Norse pantheon, and gradually came to supplant it, as far as I remember (I’m Danish, so I’ve heard a bit about it). Check out the Jellinge Stone, for example:

    Not a bad analogy.

Nordics invaded/migrated/intermarried all over Europe, from Russia to Sicily to the Levant. They were big and brave, and fairly trustworthy as elite soldiers and guards as long as they were well paid. They frequently married heiresses whose fathers were impressed by them and settled down. They didn’t leave a large genetic impact because their numbers were just too small, and a fair number went home after they got wealthy. They also died from war, private injury, and tropical disease at higher rates than the locals. And a few times they were mass murdered in pogroms similar to Jews later on: a visible and rich minority that cooperates with native elites.

Not only the record is more complete, but there is circumstantial evidence – the English language, the British architecture and a number of artifacts indicate there was a presence of the British people, and even point out that their status was that of elite – as well as there is a number of artifacts that were stolen in colonial times, and can be found in the United Kingdom. Therefore we can establish the truth even if there is no historical record.

Speaking of which, the Russian historians prefer what the Anglophone scholars refer to as the anti-Normanist doctrine. Not because the idea of Scandinavian origin is depreciating, but for the reason that there is a more coherent explanation. For example, the origin of the name Rus does not require a long stretch interpretation – “rus” is the most common hair color among the Russians, the one that goes from dark blond to light brown, that is often called “red” in the West.

Now in Google Translate we can listen how the corresponding word sounds in different languages: röd in Swedish and rød in Norwegian and Danish does not sound like “rus” at all, but a lot more like “rot” in German. It gets a lot closer in French – rouge, and rosso in Italian. The word “rosso” comes from the Latin word “russeus” and sounds similar to the Russian “rus” and the origin of them all is in the Indo-European proto-language.

This fact points out that if there was a tribe in Sweden that was called Rus, then this name would not be connected with their appearance. However, to the Russian language “the Rus people” literally translates “the red-haired people” and that corresponds perfectly with the description the aforementioned traveler left – they were “blond and ruddy”.

Yet it is interesting that “red” in all other Slavonic languages does not come from the same root word because it sounds like červené in Czech, crvena in Croatian, etc. and there is a lot of similarities between Russian and Sanskrit, but for some reason not between Sanskrit and other Slavonic languages, another fact to consider.

This leads to a conclusion that the Rus were closer in their origin to both Indo-Iranian and Germanic peoples and at the same time different from them, as well as from other Slavonic tribes. The weapons of the Rus were also different from those of the Vikings, they had heavier swords with wider blades, and helmets of a different shape. The architecture was different. Look at the old wooden churches of the Russians and those of the Swedes, there are no similarities.

The bottom line is, the story goes that a powerful tribe of the Swedish Vikings abandoned their homeland, without leaving a trace and migrated south where they found a bunch of retarded Slavonic peoples, and they ruled them happily ever after for one hundred years, until they mixed with them and forgot their language. So where is the genetic evidence then – there must be something.

And I think that the Russians wouldn’t mind to be related to the Swedes but it appears that most likely the story is for the most part a fantasy, and if there was a tribe of Vikings that ruled the Rus for some time then it does not follow that they founded the Russian people and the Russian state. The town of Novgorod and the town of Kiev had already existed before the Vikings came.

I disagree with some key ideas of your commentary, mostly because you forget that Northman is just another bs “Hollywood, brain-washing of the normies” movie. Just another movie to make white men look bad, hahhahahhahahahhaaa. And, the Skarsgards (sooo tired of them!) are sort of, very money-chasing Swedish actors. Let’s not forget Skarsgard the younger, made his seed money playing a vampire of all ridiculous things! But, Hollywood loves blood.

Scandinavians were not as evil and vindictive as they are depicted in movies…including in the TV series, “Vikings,” – however, the series is superior to Northman.

The mistake you made is saying that the Vikings attacked the Rus – burnt people alive and all. Vikings never had a big enough army to go into the Kiovan Rus vast territory. Kiovan Rus were the Khazarians who were the most ruthless killers, deceivers of all time. They were a breed of psychopaths who are still harming us.

The Kiovan Rus attacked Scandinavia (and Finland) as late as 1080AD and stole countless women & girls (sold as slaves) and sold them to slave markets of South Asia/modern day Turkey/Iraq/SA.

And, Viking women were not passive mothers and daughters in Scandinavia. Lagertha was a shield maiden (she was from Estonia) who fought like a man. Many Viking women were fighters.

Who were those fellers in long boats that came down the Russian rivers to attack Constantinople,
the ones the Byzantines called “Varangians?” Who were those fellers who once led a highly coordinated attack on that same city simultaneously from the Black Sea and the Mediterranean? Scandinavians had been traversing those same Russian rivers for *at least* a thousand years before the “Vikings.” (See Goths, among others.)

If there is no Swedish (or Norse) language today in Russia, we might also point out that there is no Danish language in Normandy. Some do point out that such common Russian names as Vladimir and Olga are descended from such Norse names as Waldemar and Helga, respectively.

The Arab diplomat Ibn Fadlan” was describing the ” Vikings” he saw in Russia, not Sweden. He didn’t much like them either.

    >This leads to a conclusion that the Rus were closer in their origin to both Indo-Iranian and Germanic peoples . . .”

The Norse *were* a Germanic people, as are their descendants, the Swedes.

    >”And I think that the Russians wouldn’t mind to be related to the Swedes . . .”

Most Russians do not sense any similarities of temperament or character between themselves and Swedes.

I want to take it a long way-currently at 73k members, with my anti-woke principle and a strong core ideal on which to run my production house, I want this group to get to million followers. Then I want to come to America and set up a production company somewhere in Tennesse or Texas. I was a huge fan of LA and despite the recent fuckup with Hollywood, all my favorite films came from that town so it will be a hard decision. But I just don’t see going to LA now. Once it’s established I want to make hard scifi movies, no woke, shot on film(35mm) and stay true to the novels that I adapt. There are so many great novels waiting to be adapted. Nevertheless, within the context of the story, the audience had been led to see Amleth’s quest as noble, to hope for his success, and to see Fjölnir as evil. The sudden reversal toward the end is jarring.

This is a deliberate subverting of the revenge tale, and that kind of thing is layered in throughout–the protagonist runs with a savagely masculine crowd that does very bad things. It would not be unfair for an onlooker to call him a “bad” man. I believe that this was (in part) a bargain Robert Eggers made with the woke film culture, so he’s able to tell interviewers stuff like, “This is actually an ‘answer-to’ the macho revenge story, and I’m condemning toxic masculinity/patriarchy and, what the hell, probably white nationalism, too.” Ultimately, I think the writer-director had his cake and ate it, too. I really liked the twist near the end with his mother telling him, “Your father was a horrible fucking animal.” The diminishment of clear cut good and evil made it a cooler story. “Deserve,” as someone once said in another good movie, “Ain’t Got Nothing to Do with It.”

“After two hours of cephalophilia I was strangely ready for one of Victor’s grand theories—this one involving the true reasons for the spread of Christianity. “Entirely driven by tech support,” he said. “Not the conquering and occupying and slave taking?” “Nah,” said Victor. “That’s all late model Christianity. Back in the Dark Ages . . .” “Sub-Roman,” said Everest without looking up. “Early Medieval,” said Victor. “Back in the time of the early Anglo-Saxon kingdoms it was all top-down.” According to Victor, the first thing the boys from Rome would do when they tooled over was cozy up to the local kings or chiefs. Forget arduously saving souls one at a time—the emissaries of the Pope calculated that in hierarchical quasi-tribal societies you grab the big man and the rest would be forced into line. “And what do they offer these guys?” asked Victor. “Salvation and life everlasting?” “What? Better than Valhalla?” asked Victor. “Better than feasting, drinking and fighting for all eternity? Better than Elysium?” “Political legitimacy?” Victor gave me a sharp look. “Close,” he said. “But what they really offered was tech support. Think about it. Not only could these churchmen write, but they could keep books.” This was a big plus for a medieval ruler who usually spent most of his days on the edge of bankruptcy, and was still expected to maintain the peace, host major dinners, and hand out bling and favors to his supporters and lesser nobles. “The clergy ran the IT support, managed the books, maintained lines of communication internally and externally,” said Victor. “It was the killer application of its day.” “Is this important?” said Everest, who had lowered his head until his forehead rested on the table. “If the clergy were the original IT support,” said Victor, “doesn’t that mean we’re the new clergy?”

As so many things, European cultures seem to have ended in the Steppe at the hand of Cossacks and peasant Rus. Napoleon ended the glory of French militarism by invading and Hitler cut the heart out of Prussian tradition and lands by invading.

A feature of Russians seems to be that they fight rather than calculate. For example, after the first two weeks of Barbarossa, Hitler and his generals were celebrating victory – which by any normal metric they had achieved. Every battle won, millions of prisoners taken and vast areas of Western Russia occupied with few German losses.

However, surprisingly, the Russians continued to fight, taking immense losses until they were themselves in Berlin and Germany lay in ruins.

Following that line, the current Jewish led Western attack on Russia could produce a catastrophic result. They have this assumption that Russia can be ground down and regime changed through a proxy war/economic isolation. They’re also assuming that the nuclear MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) calculation will hold because they themselves would never sacrifice New York, Washington and London.

The error is to assume that Russia wouldn’t be ready to sacrifice Moscow and St Petersburg.

  47. Interesting article and an enjoyable read. At the end Dr MacDonald poses the question of how violent and heirarchical Nordic hunter gatherers became the level headed and impressionable egalitarians they are today.

Perhaps part of the answer to the riddle lies in the fact that people migrate back and forth over time. To imagine that Nordics were stagnant populations evolving in a closed system is not accurate.

Rather, Nordic peoples have been making southward migrations since time immemorial. For example, it is accepted that the Goths were originally a tribe from Scandinavia, but over the course of centuries migrated south, settled in Roman ruled Balkans and became Romanized. Over the course of their migration, they abandoned reliance on hunter gatherer lifestyles, became farmers and adopted Roman culture. At one point they ruled Italy and Spain (Ostrogothic and Visigothic Kingdoms respectively.).

Similar migration stories can be told about other Nordic peoples such as Lombards and Normans. In other words, Nordics adopted lifestyles very different from the ones they were living in the harsh northern lands following migrations and conquests of lands in the south that allowed for more peaceful methods of existence and in turn these lessons probably found their way back north to Scandinavia. After all, Swedes stopped being tundra dwelling hunters eventually. How so? Perhaps by conquering more fertile areas in Southern Europe and then those practices finding their way back north as Europe became more united over the course of the middle ages.

In short, the harsh life of Scandinavia led to the Vikings being fierce warriors, but they used their ferocity to escape that life, to conquer more pleasant lands and thus escape the harsh customs that those lands demanded.

…thought police objected to this film yet?

Since it’s just another Hollywood movie, one may assume that the thought police must have been involved in its production. The primary production company, Regency Enterprises, based in West Hollywood (a gay hot-spot), was founded by Arnon Milchan, an Israeli spy and arms dealer from Rehovot, who is said to own 80% (20% by Disney). Perfect World Pictures, a Chinese entertainment company, was also involved. The distribution is by Universal, Hollywood’s oldest studio, founded in 1912.

Do you think these people would sink between \$70 – \$90 million (the reported budget) to produce a film that would not be “politically correct”?

Here is one issue, as reported by the author of this review:

…despite the relatively low position of women, they could seek power by influencing men.

Hitchhiked into Oslo on May 17, 1979. The date is specific to the Norse. It celebrates an assembly of delegates from various parts of Norway, following the Napoleonic Wars when the victors imposed their will on those who had opposed them. In that assembly, the delegates voted to declare their independence as a nation.

One of the first things I observed on the Syttende Mai was the parade of the “Rus”, they were just graduated teens who wore Red caps. There were a minority of blue caps among them, but I never did learn the meaning of that differentiation. The streets were emblazoned with the red, white and blue of the Norwegian flag. Something was different in the symbology to an American, knowing those colors in the American banner as something born in war, as notably indicated with the national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner. Contrarily, the vibe, the feeling of that day in Oslo was something more united, more folkish, if you would, as compared with the vehement militancy to be experienced on the major celebrations on the Fourth of July.

The victor’s peace in Scandinavia was imposed upon the Danes, primarily. Stoutly neutral in the battles between Napoleon and his foes, the Danish fleet harbored in Copenhagen was on a dark night in 1805, attacked and largely destroyed by Perfidious Albion in a sneak attack by, of all the ironic names, Admiral Nelson. The surname indicates Danish or more likely Norwegian Viking ancestry. Nels is one of the most common given names in Norway, not quite so much among either the Danes or the Swedes.

Upshot of that Pearl Harbor type event was that from then on, Denmark, which somewhat lightly ruled Norway at the time, allied with Napoleon—for perfectly good reasons. So the victor’s vengeance was to deprive the Danes of Norway and grant it to the Swedish Crown, under, ironically again, the recently enthroned Napoleonic Marshal, Bernadotte, who had turned his coat as the Swedish royal line had died off and their aristocracy offered the throne to that high-ranking French officer.

Having lost a couple provinces to Sweden during the more than 500 years under Danish rule, the Norse were not amused and thereby assembling at Eidsvoll on the 17th of May 1815. The victorious allies, led by the conniving and honor-less British, were not amused at the effrontery of the Norwegians and made some not so subtle threats. Thus, Norway, though given home rule under the new arrangements, were subject to Swedish control over their foreign policy.

In 1905 Norway once again declared their independence and chose Prince Carl of Denmark to become their first king since their royal line had died off during the Black Plague era in the 1350’s or thereabouts, at which time that nation became part of the Tre Kronor’s Bund (three crowns league), where all three Scandinavian states came under a single monarch. To this day, Swedish military regalia sports the three crowns as their logo.

The Danish prince changed his name/title to Haakon VIII, I believe it was. One of my great aunts, Borghild Nokleby, was his private secretary from the time of his accession to that of his death.

So to wrap it up, “Rus” is a Scandinavian term, broadly shared, I would assume, as an indicator of the color red. There are nuances between that appellation and the more commonly used “Rod” which I have yet to research. Ethnographically, we do know that the bulk of the Scandinavian peoples, Nordics, not Germanics, migrated to those northern lands from the steppe country several thousand years ago. My take is that the Rus/Varangians who sailed and portaged down the river systems into both Kiev and Novgorod were totally for real and that their leaders, allying with as yet tribal Slavic natives, married “princesses” from their most prominent houses, forming the precipitant for those lands which came to be known as Russia.

True that numerically, the Rus were rapidly absorbed into the indigenous bloodlines. Nevertheless, as to judge from their art as well as their military prowess; those mostly Swedish Vikings brought a new vigor into the then somewhat inchoate tribalism amongst the Slavic tribes centering around the newcomers major trading entrepôts of Kiev and Novgorod. Metaphorically, the Rus could be likened to a catalytic converter which energized a previously somewhat somnolent eastern Slavic population base.

Thus, the Russias, definitely including Ukraine, developed a sense of nationhood, due to a tiny but extremely influential infusion of a highly developed Scandinavian cultural expression; which in that era was arguably more profoundly creative than deracinated Continental Europe which had fallen into the Dark Ages ,due to having come under the Imperial rule of Constantinian/ Charlemangian Christianity and its attendant serfdom and illiteracy of the common people who had fallen under feudalistic domination.

Furthermore, it is a well known fact – and historical examples prove it, that a militarized culture is, as it has been at all times, a homoerotic culture.

The Romans had an extremely militaristic culture, and despised homosexuality (Julius Caesar’s enemies regularly smeared him with that accusation).

  52. J says:

The deep question is how such a violent, hierarchical culture developed eventually into the highly egalitarian Scandinavian cultures we see today.

My short answer is that the berserker Viking is a fantasy, like this movie. Northmen I know are most polite, shy, and equalitarian. Nice, law-abiding people. Imagining they are terrible warriors makes them feel well.

Scandinavian Rus’ theory is widely accepted.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kievan_Rus%27#Name
    ………………..
According to the prevalent theory, the name Rus’, like the Proto-Finnic name for Sweden (*rootsi), is derived from an Old Norse term for ‘men who row’ (rods-) because rowing was the main method of navigating the rivers of Eastern Europe, and could be linked to the Swedish coastal area of Roslagen (Rus-law) or Roden, as it was known in earlier times. The name Rus’ would then have the same origin as the Finnish and Estonian names for Sweden: Ruotsi and Rootsi
    —————————————
Controversy persists over whether the Rus’ were Varangians or Slavs, with the current scholarly consensus holding that they were an ancestrally Norse people that quickly assimilated into Slavic culture. This uncertainty is due largely to a paucity of contemporary sources. Attempts to address this question instead rely on archaeological evidence, the accounts of foreign observers, and legends and literature from centuries later.
    ——————————————————-
While Varangians were Norse traders and Vikings, some Russian and Ukrainian nationalist historians argue that the Rus’ were themselves Slavs (see Anti-Normanism). Normanist theories focus on the earliest written source for the East Slavs, the Primary Chronicle, which was produced in the 12th century. Nationalist accounts on the other hand have suggested that the Rus’ were present before the arrival of the Varangians, noting that only a handful of Scandinavian words can be found in Russian and that Scandinavian names in the early chronicles were soon replaced by Slavic names.

Nevertheless, the close connection between the Rus’ and the Norse is confirmed both by extensive Scandinavian settlement in Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine and by Slavic influences in the Swedish language. Though the debate over the origin of the Rus’ remains politically charged, there is broad agreement that if the proto-Rus’ were indeed originally Norse, they were quickly nativized, adopting Slavic languages and other cultural practices. This position, roughly representing a scholarly consensus (at least outside of nationalist historiography), was summarized by the historian, F. Donald Logan, “in 839, the Rus were Swedes; in 1043 the Rus were Slavs“. Recent scholarship has attempted to move past the narrow and politicized debate on origins, to focus on how and why assimilation took place so quickly.

Ahmad ibn Fadlan, an Arab traveler during the 10th century, provided one of the earliest written descriptions of the Rus’: “They are as tall as a date palm, blond and ruddy, so that they do not need to wear a tunic nor a cloak; rather the men among them wear garments that only cover half of his body and leaves one of his hands free.” Liutprand of Cremona, who was twice an envoy to the Byzantine court (949 and 968), identifies the “Russi” with the Norse (“the Russi, whom we call Norsemen by another name”) but explains the name as a Greek term referring to their physical traits (“A certain people made up of a part of the Norse, whom the Greeks call […] the Russi on account of their physical features, we designate as Norsemen because of the location of their origin.”).

…the Russias, definitely including Ukraine, developed a sense of nationhood, due to a tiny but extremely influential infusion of a highly developed Scandinavian cultural expression; which in that era was arguably more profoundly creative than deracinated Continental Europe…

The key word seems to be “arguably“. Your lofty interpretation appears to me to be a bold embellishment. Exactly what do you mean by “highly developed Scandinavian cultural expression…in that era“, presumably more than a thousand years ago, both in Scandinavia and in Russia and Ukraine, and what was “more profoundly creative” about it than in Continental Europe?

What specific relics can you point toward in support of your claim, and I mean more than pots and jewelry and swords from the Iron Age, but architectural remnants, including theaters? Were they familiar with the production of wine and crude beer? For the sake of comparison, note the image linked to below, of a Roman temple in Nîmes, built in 16 BC, at which time concrete had already been discovered.

In any case, more important than interim cultural expressions are genetic aspects, whichhavea permanent effect. Much of Russia came under the influence of Islam early on, particularly Volga Bulgaria, Khanat of Kazan. Tatars of the Crimean Khanat raided Moscow in 1571. See the following subsection at Wikipedia for historical details (History of Islam in Russia):

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_in_Russia#History_of_Islam_in_Russia

Nowadays one can easily notice the difference between people living in southern France, where the Umayyad Caliphate (Saracenes), coming from Africa through Iberia, controlled that territory more than a thousand years ago, and those people living north of the Loire River, where Viking and Germanic influences are more pronounced. Similar contrasts apply to the difference between southern Italians, where in Sicily and Calabria Islamic influence prevailed for centuries, and northern Italians in the Po Valley.

The differences are not just in physical appearance but manifest themselves in behavioral habits. Many people living in areas previously under Islamic conquest or rule have admixtures of Arabian Mulatto traits, which affect populations in those regions to this day. This is evident in industriousness and innovation, measured in per capita production. For details, please see the historical map embedded in an archived comment from more than two years ago, showing the pervasiveness of the Islamic conquests during earlier times.

The only crime in their mind that can be committed is crimes against them. They have the exact same mentality with terrorism. If they commit terrorism, it is not terrorism. Only when others do it. Jews simply cannot comprehend equality because they see themselves as not just God’s Chosen, but as God.

OK, i am sure it’s a good movie, glad you liked it yada-yada, BUT, you are attempting to analyze it from the perspective of a 21st century intellectual- really bad idea. referencing WASP- completely irrelevant and off topic- there were no WASPs in the 9th century scandanavia. the ‘P’ in WASP is for protestant. these people were heathens. when they were converted in the next few centuries- they were catholic. protestant is a whole nuther era. shape-shifitng is horror movie stuff, so once you enter that realm you can forget about it being any type of period piece(you might as well throw in a dragon if you are going to go shapeshifter). here are the facts about scandanavian law of the period: a man kills his enemy before sundown and ‘publically admits it’, this can be settled by paying a WERGILD (40 pieces of silver unless he was a noble) to the dead guy’s family. if the family refused the money- they were SOL because the law says this is a valid payment and vengeance risks outlawry. if the killer refuses to pay, he can be OUTLAWed- meaning anyone can kill him anywhere, anytime- he has made himself outside the law. (the community meets once a year at the THING, governed by 12 DOOMSMEN. the lawspeaker recites the laws which are memorized and passed on by rote). any complaints about killings or other debts, were handled at the THING. however, if a killing is done after dark, it is called MURDER. if you had a grudge, there was alternately allowed trial by combat(duel called HOLMGANG), this was done ritually in a certain place(HOLM) with certain rules, and the person challenged could appoint someone to fight for him. viking means ‘raiding someone (by boat) outside the community’, you are not a ‘viking’, per se, you go a-viking. vik means channel of water. so really, watching a movie and thinking you are now somehow an expert on ancient culture- that because hollywood says this is ‘so’. well it must be true? there are plenty of icelandic saga(yes saga IS already plural)available in english, and they will be a more reliable source of the culture than reading about ancient indo-europeans, with whom the scandanavians had as many differences as they had similarities. and yes, it was common practice to exterminate your enemies including babies, and slavery was common. anyone outside the community was fair game for murder, robbery, slavery, which is why they went a-viking, because they didn’t have to answer to their 12 doomsmen for anything outside the community. if you were poor, you wanted to start your own farm, you went and raided some other community- got some loot, got some slaves to work your farm or sell to get land or a wife. when you marry, you must pay a bride price- the better the match, the more you had to pay for the wife. the wife brings a dowry, which she takes back if you are divorced. you do not get the bride price back if your wife leaves you. all these raids were economic realities for poor people living in a frozen world.

Your specific density amazes me. One beginning example: When the massive Norwegian Hrolof det Ganger (Ralph the walker–eng. trans) got his nickname, he was so huge that his homeland had no horses large enough to sustain his height and girth.

His Norse and Danish Langskips (long-ships) sailed merrily up the Seine and besieged Ile de la Cite’ in Paris to the point where the French king offered the Norsemen one of his fairest provinces if they would simply settle there and recognize that he was their king.

No sweat. Normandy was founded as a duchy under the rule of Hrolof and his descendants, among whom was Guillaume le Batard (William the Bastard) who conquered the Saxons at Hastings and became the rulers of England.

In Normandy, the Norse taught the natives more advanced levels of agriculture and horticulture, particularly in more highly developed forms of dairying. To this day, Brie and Camembert are world-renowned cheeses.

As for wines and beer, the Norsemen had two outstanding products: “Ol” (translated into English from the original as “Ale”) and Mjod (mead–a honey-based drink which was somewhat psychedelic and its combination of smoothness, combined with a coverted punch, remains unrivaled in its multiple levels of potency to this day. )

Their Berserkers were rather limited in numbers as their roles were highly specialized, quite unlike the portrayal in the silly movie. When going aViking, their fleet would usually have a handful of barroom brawler types on board. They also chained a captive bear to the mast.

When arriving at their target, the brawler was duly engorged on mead, combined with imbibing the amanita muscaria mushroom. The bear was sacrificed, skinned and the hide (including the skull) was tethered around the brawler, giving him a most fearsome appearance.

Stoned out of his gourd, the Berserker was literally wearing a “bear-shirt” (bjornsirker) and in his spiritualized state, was enabled to access the spirit of the bear. He was provided with a huge oaken club.

Imagine a horde of Vikings, aiming for all the treasures held in an enemy Christian cathedral or monastery, all headed up by this psyched-up brawler growling and skriking at the top of his lungs coming at the guards. A totally terrifying apparition.

The Norsemen were past-masters at psychological warfare.

Were you not abysmally ignorant of Scandinavian culture, you would realize that most men were quite literate and were most appreciative of the alliterative poetry of their Skalds. Their artistry was of a high level, usually utilized for the aesthetic embellishment of their practical, everyday household items, rather than kept in some stuffy museum. The culture was not strictly limited to an elite, but was broad spread within the bulk of the populace.

Meanwhile, in the Continental regimes, only the clergy was literate and used that tool as a control mechanism over not only the serfs, but also the aristocracy themselves. Their artistry and sense of the aesthetic was deeply devolved during those “Dark Ages” when Constantinian XTIanity had effectually and deliberately destroyed Classical Culture.

Before their kings were subtly ensorcelled by the Christian Missionary Position and then forcibly converted their people to that deracinated and de-spiritualized false religion, thus ending the true Viking era; the Norsemen ruled.

See my other commentaries on this thread in order to come to some elementary realization that the Norse culture ca. 800 to 900 A.D. was an order of magnitude higher than that of the fully deracinated Continental peoples.

Their war was a spiritual one at base, a traditional, land-based, natural world observant, Shamanic culture which was in mortal combat against their perceived enemies, the concept of overlord kingship along with the imperial hangover resident in the mass murderer, genocidal “Holy” Roman Emperor, Charlemagne, the forever damned.

Europe had fallen to the false-god of the ancient Hebrews, Yahweh, their tribal WarGod, as presented in the Old Testicles; as expressed via Saul and Constantine who were the primary developers of the meme known as the JudieChristie MagickMindfuck. My short answer is that the berserker Viking is a fantasy, like this movie.

I’m not sure I can agree. Consider the existence of people like this:

    Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson

Hafþór was born on 26 November 1988 in Reykjavík, Iceland.[7] As a child, he worked in his family farm and lifted natural stones hence was always big and strong from a young age.[7] His imposing height of 205 cm (6 ft 9 in) [8] is credited to his 203 cm (6 ft 8 in) father Björn[9] and his mother Ragnheiður, who is also of very tall stature.[7] Hafþór’s grandfather Reynir is also tall as him and just as broad across the chest.[9]

There seems to have been a selection for size, something really useful in an age without ‘equalizing’ gunpowder weapons.

And it’s a fact the Vikings did a LOT of fighting and sought the best weapons available. An excellent old NOVA show:

Poltava was a dramatic battle, but the deciding point was probably the loss of Finland to Russia (1809). This was a debacle whereafter the king, Gustav IV Adolf, ultimately was fired and replaced by the Bernadottes, while Sweden took the peaceful, industrial route instead. The country was basically broke at this point and, if memory serves, about 1/3 of the population emigrated to more bountiful climes (the US) in the decades following.

The greatest strategic blunder after that nadir was IMO cancelling the artisanal, locally sourced Swedish nuclear program, just months before tests were to begin. The cancellation was apparently due to pressure and assurances from the US. Mistake.

In recent years declassified documents have shown that Sweden was much closer to possessing the nuclear bomb than previously thought. By 1965 most of the bomb was already built and another 6 months would have been needed to arm it, had the project been given the green light. Another two bombs would have been built shortly thereafter.

Researching the Scythians will lead you to the answer. The Scyth’s even controlled Rome for a period, limiting the predations of the (((merchant class))), and they always won in war.

Scythians/Goths/Vikings are are all kin, and part of the IE Aryan group. And yes, they invaded and took tithes as natural leaders, while also breeding into the conquered populations. This idea that Christians are pussies is a bunch of BS. The Scythian/Gothic Christians did not put down their weapons. It is JudeoChristianity that is pussified.

I saw such a massive long ship capable of floating on shallow water at one of the more than ten museums I visited in Oslo, which is not so far away from Norway’s oldest city, Tønsberg, along the Oslo Fjord. However, you have evaded my specific question, pertaining to artifacts of highly developed Norse or Scandinavian culture in Russia and Ukraine – a theme that has been raised in this thread earlier – and, in general, which Scandinavian cultural expressions “were more profoundly creative” than in Europe during an era you did not even specify.

You mentioned techniques of warfare and raids in Normandy and Paris, along with agriculture, but profoundly creative cultural expressions ought to also become manifest in the form of towns, including their associated infrastructure. I wasn’t expecting any evidence of an aqueduct to provide water, such as the famous one in the old city of Segovia, built around 50 BC, but at least something more concrete than just the artistry and poetry that you alluded to, or literacy rate.

Though Tønsberg, which I mentioned above, was founded (871), roughly a century before Sweden’s oldest town, it is not as old as Denmark’s oldest town, Ribe, in western Jutland, which would suggest that sedentary civilization into Scandinavia, along with its associated cultural displays, came from the southwest and spread in a northeasterly direction. Yet Veliky Novgorod, founded in 859, is three years older than Ribe, so the Viking or Scandinavian influence in Russia still remains unclear.

Men have sacrificed and crippled themselves physically and emotionally to feed, house, and protect women and children. None of their pain or achievement is registered in feminist rhetoric, which portrays men as oppressive and callous exploiters.

“If civilization had been left in female hands we would still be living in grass huts.”

“Patriarchy, routinely blamed for everything, produced the birth control pill, which did more to free contemporary women than feminism itself.”

“Woman is the dominant sex. Men have to do all sorts of stuff to prove that they are worthy of woman’s attention.”

“Contemporary feminism cut itself off from history and bankrupted itself when it spun its puerile, paranoid fantasy of male oppressors and female sex-object victims. Woman is the dominant sex.”

My addition: In the modern era, women actually think they are equal to men in all tasks, due to the labor saving inventions of man. In the old days, there was a more natural division. For example, a woman could not crank start a model T ford, or had the upper body strength to chop wood all day.

Now they push buttons, and think they are the same, and that there should be birthing men.

It is not in man’s natural instinct to put women into battle.

It seems to me that they are interchangeable with the American Indian culture of tribal warriors. Very stagnant, static, and stinky in unwashed animal skins (use mild detergent on the Gentle Cycle).

Dr. MacDonald’s Theory of “Individualism” based on non-kinship, but on ability and warrior skills is accepted rather uncritically on his site. Farming and settlers had more kinship investment due to assets to be acquire and passed on. Not to mention collective protection.

From these charts, he postulates a genetic shift away from group identities and subordination to to the society and culture. “Individualism” in his context means that individuals act in accordance with their own values and guidelines and not subordinated to the group. And this is supposed to explain the peculiarities of Nordic culture that has displayed self-loathing, absence of ego and realism evaluation of the world they live in. Sweden especially is a mentally ill country with self destructive, abstract, deductive thinking, idealism, and doctrine rolling over everything. Simple observation and induction (facts, evidence, observations, etc) do not compute and ore not allowed to mess up a Great Idea or Theory.

Actually, his whole analysis is shoehorned, I believe, to fit into an academic model-like Climate Ca-ching models to tie it all together. Along the way, he uses “forced” factors that cause a pause or deviation. Academics love neat little Aristotelian pigeon holes and digital categorization. How marvelous to fill a movie screen of “Reality” from a compact projector!

I have studied people all my life as an aloof observer and invisible, at times, blended in to get a closer insight. I believe the insular quality of the Scandinavian with small affect, awkward persona and the “Hollow Personality” originates from the austere, bloodless, Scandinavian designed furniture and visual inner cognitive architecture. Promiscuity, sex as a ham sandwich, shallow relationships, heavy self medication with alcohol are all symptoms of a malady that has evolved from Lutheranism. Many Scandanavian girls from Northern California, Michigan, Minnesota, and the northern climes have run away as. teenager and ended up in prostitution and porn. The “easiness” of Scandinavian girls and the widespread exceptance of homosexuality are but compensations for societal milieu where intimacy is scarce, inhibition is pathological. Almost all women in porn have daddy issues, either abuse or emotional distancing.

The Aryan range went all the way into North Africa.

The RUS (Vikings) had special ships with wheels, where they could portage across land to get to rivers.

This is how they were able to move deep into the interior of what is now Russia.

Prior to the RUS Vikings, their progenitors – the Scyths, evolved in the Pontic Steppe region between the black and Caspian seas.

DNA, Language, Burial Mounds, Left over artifacts, verbal tradition are all aligning now, and overturning myth.

The Scythian cultures emerged around the 9th century BC among the Eurasian nomads, with some researchers claiming that the alleged lost tribes of Israel migrated northward, over the Caucasus, and became the Scythians, Cimmerians and Goths, as well as the progenitors of the later Germanic invaders of Britain. Europe, named after the Phoenician princess Europa, was exposed to several waves of invasions by horse people.

It’s not healthy to see homo-eroticism in everything, if you go down this track too long, soon you’ll be pinching your friend Bob’s butt. The reality is, 98 percent of men are heterosexual, and it’s always been that way. Men think about women a lot and men in battle probably think about women even more than men in peacetime. Calling everything homo-erotic isn’t going to change that one iota.

They were dumbfucks. Norse religion is boring & retarded -actually all truly Indo-European are (as expressed in the Vedas and non-Greek Roman folk religion).

And there is nothing specifically “European” about the Norse way of life. This is a lower level Bronze age world-view, even better expressed in Homer’s “Iliad”, ca. 800 BC, or even further back in time & at the rudimentary level (but the spirit is the same), in the Sumerian-Semitic “Epic of Gilgamesh”, 2100 BC. It’s all about “heroes” without moral, mental & emotional maturity (even Ulysses was a nasty piece of work); screwing enslaved women & general meaninglessness of life, with the afterlife imagined as a dreary anemic pseudo-existence in the underworld.

Norse shamanism is a Romanticized later development in the 19th C of something that was never potentially life-enhancing. It wasn’t even tragic. It was appropriate to low-IQ warrior culture whites would later find among American Indians of the plains.

As far as Christianity goes, it is an amalgam of genuine European traditions, Zoroastrianized Intertestamental Judaism, Plato & Orphic traditions. Perhaps it would have been better had not Europeans become Christians, because they possessed far more advanced spiritual culture (Athenian tragedians, Plato, Plotinus, Stoics, Corpus Hermeticum,…), but history had it otherwise.

European Christianity is an alloy of many frequently conflicting world-views, Hebrew Bible being only story-telling & rhetorically/phraseologically substratum for a different world-view. No Jew nor middle Easterner could have composed Boethius’ Consolatio, Dante, Eriugena, Michelangelo or Bach. The Hebrew branch is just one among a few ingredients of Christianity, and not even the most important one- as further development of European culture until the 1500s had shown.

Norse shtick has not much in it, anyway.

Jews themselves know this the best. Those learned among them know very well that historical Christianity is something very different.

To my eyes, the scenes between Amleth and Gudrun and Gunnar are nods to, and inversions of, similar scenes in the Volsungsaga and the Song of the Niebelungs.

A key part of the Volsung story is that Signy, daughter of Volsung and married to Siggeir the slayer of her family, commits incest with her brother to conceive a child that will help him gain revenge. The two spend a time as werewolves, improving their battle skills. When Sigmund and his son/nephew Sinfjotli arrive at the home of their enemy, Signy sends out her youngest son to be killed by the pair. It’s pretty grim, even for a Nordic saga.

Likewise, Hagen quite ruthlessly murders the child of Atilla (oddly enough rendered as a good guy in certain traditions) when he is a guest of the Hunnish king and looking to provoke a battle.

Eggers is a pretty literate filmmaker, so I expect he and Sjon knew enough to play around with the tropes and imagery borrowed from the old hero tales.

RE: Scandinavian egalitarianism. Take a close look at Snorri Sturleson’s Heimskringlasaga, the history of the kings of Norway. Snorri was what you might call a Viking lawyer, deeply involved in politics, specifically about the Norwegian king’s efforts to make Iceland a part of the kingdom.

Snorri’s recurring theme is how order and unity shade into tyranny and freedom and individualism shade into chaos. The saga has a back-and-forth quality as a king consolidates power, only to be overthrown by his own people for being too harsh, who in turn discover the next guy is worse. Moreover, the gentle kings seem to get cast down as regularly as the harsh ones. The saga sort of asks, what is the balance? Snorri is the Nordic Thucydides, a vastly under-rated Medieval writer and thinker.

You are kidding yourself if you think dirt farmers were less “stagnant, static, and stinky” than plains Indians or other nomadic people. Those people didn’t wear their clothes all day, they aired them out and wore them only on necessary occasions. On the contrary the nomads are much cleaner since they don’t interact with dirt and don’t live in sedentary, high density communes. Animal hides are naturally anti-bacterial due to their dense porous, cellular nature and acidic PH. They don’t “soil” very easily (unlike fabric) and can be cleaned merely by oiling and aereating.

I differentiate pre-Nicean Christianity from what came later.

The Arien controversy changed Christianity from where Christ was an evolved man, to a god. The Logos, was to reincarnate many times to live on earth as a trial, and to improve yourself to become like the Christ.

Rome was scared shitless of the Scyths and Goths because they would always lose in battle to these Aryan tribes.

The Scyths would retreat with all their possession, and then burn the land. When Roman legions overextended themselves, they would then get slaughtered by the bigger, stronger and more warlike Scyths (Aryans).

The Goths/Scyths were taking up Christianity, and reincarnation made them even MORE fierce. Constantine had motive to make the religion more sheep-like. Judeo Christianity probably first started here at around 325 AD. Paul and his teachings had already taken root creating the trinitarian branch.

DNA Sequencing Reveals Vikings Are Not Scandinavian, Contrary to What History Books Say

The world’s largest DNA sequencing of Viking skeletons revealed that the Vikings were not Scandinavians at all.
This debunks the modern image of blonde and blue-eyed seafarers on books and television.
The study also revealed a few other details about the fearsome seafarers who raided and pillaged all over Europe and America.
The researchers believe the findings from this study may mean a revision of historical records about Vikings.
The world’s largest-ever DNA sequencing of over 400 Viking skeletons from excavations all over Europe and Greenland just revealed that the fearsome blonde and blue-eyed Vikings in history books were not Scandinavians at all.
Researchers from St John’s College, University of Cambridge conducted the study. They were led by Professor Eske Willerslev, director of The Lundbeck Foundation GeoGenetics Centre, University of Copenhagen.
Instead, the study proves that these fearsome seafarers had genes influenced by those from Asia and Southern Europe before it flowed to Scandinavia and other Northern European countries before the Viking Age.

Scandinavians have been formed by a few slightly differing evolutionary pressures.

    * Extremely long winters with agricultural diet
Due to the golf stream and the coastal climate, agriculture is possible in Scandinavia even thought it is insanely far to the north. Stockholm is 59° north. This gives for light adaptations rather than cold adaptations.

    * Very low population density
Scandinavia has had a very low population density compared to most of the world. Which will have many evolutionary effects. For example, one could guess that it would lead to more spread out iq, that a denser population would lead to more specialization with some very high iq people that can direct the work for all the others. Anyway, its a distinctiveness of Scandinavian environment

    * Protected by geographical remoteness and poverty. Noone really wanted to invade scandinavia. At least no agricultural economies. The last invaders before the current catastrophy was the Sami tribes, but their reindeer herding economy could not compete in areas where agriculture was possilbe, so they had little impact. The viking age is an interesting example. Even thought Britain was much more powerful than Scandinavia, they never invaded. Because the rewards were too low, an invasion could never ever pay for itself.

If we compare Scandinavians to middle easterners, we can see today how the scandinavians have zero cultural defences and much weaker ethnocentricism. This could very well be effects of everyone always wanting to live in ME and noone ever wanting to live in Scandinavia. So over the millenia ME people have evolved weaponized cultural pracicies and instincts to wield them.

As for egalitarianism, its probably best explained by agricultral economy, requiring cooperation in combinationi with low population density. I also think Scandinavian “egalitarianism” in itself is more complicated than what meets the eye. Is it really so egalitarian? In what respects? It would be a field of study all by itself.

  118. @emerging majority

See, in relation to the extremely influential infusion, of a highly developed Scandinavian cultural expression, there is a little problem. The Rus people had their own religion, and their main god was the Sun. They worshiped the Sun. And they didn’t know mathematics, and didn’t know astronomy, but they were aware of the winter and summer solstice and celebrated them. You have never heard that in Scandinavia they had celebrated the solstice, before the adoption of Christianity, have you?

The Rus couldn’t figure out these dates themselves, so they must have adopted these holidays from another people. More knowledgeable people. And that people were most likely the ancient Indo-Iranians, also known as Aryans. They celebrated the solstice on the Yaldā Night, and they also wrote the Vedas and in the Vedas there is a Sun god. Although there is also a Sun god in the Old Scandinavian pantheon they did not worship the Sun, and the Rus did not have any notion of Valhalla.

So it doesn’t look like there was some highly developed Scandinavian culture, and it doesn’t look like that culture had any significant influence on the Rus people. The story is based on a real fact – there was a clan of Varangians that rose to power in the town of Novgorod, and they did rule there for some period of time, but it is very unlikely that they were called the Rus. And certainly they didn’t conquer the Slavonic tribes, since they were outnumbered.

However, in the town of Novgorod the people practiced referendums – had there some kind of democracy, and their king was elected. Every person had a right to vote, and therefore it is possible that prince Rurik and his clan was put into power when the people elected him. This is more or less compatible with the historical account.

The information is contained in the Primary Chronicle, which states that Slavic tribes drove the Varangians back, refused to pay them tribute, and set out to govern themselves. But afterwards the tribes started fighting each other and decided to invite the Varangians, led by Rurik, to reestablish order. Rurik came along with his brothers and a large retinue.

This is a reasonable explanation, and it also explains why there is no DNA evidence of their presence – they were a clan, not a people. There were a few hundred men and that is it.

The Younger Dryas event was 12,800 years ago. This impact event must have messed up whatever Hyperborean civilization there was, which then moved into Gobleki Teppi.

Graham Hancock thinks that the Sphinx’s age is also very old. The statue appears to have been exposed to about a thousand years of heavy rainfall. This is a reasonable explanation, and it also explains why there is no DNA evidence of their presence – they were a clan, not a people. There were a few hundred men and that is it.

That can happen. For example, the American southwest at the time of Mexican independence had practically no Mexicans. There were only a few thousand Spaniards in all of Alta California, and even less in the badlands of Tejas.

Yet, the language remains, as if they were the dominant population. If some Mexican tells you they have always been here, you have permission to smash them in the mouth with your fist.

It was Indian lands, and Aztecs or Mestizos especially would not cross the desert. They would be killed and then eaten by the Apache.

Back to Europe: The Aryan tribes broke up into different branches. The Phoenicians became sailing people, and probably passed hypnosis that the world was flat. The Scyths were horseman and had animal husbandry and ruled in flat grass lands. When they went into forested areas they would often fell the trees.

Goths learned to live in the forests. Aryan tribes moved into Persia, mingling with the tribes there.

The Slavs moved down the large rivers from Germany, moving from West to East, and farming along the river banks as they went.

The peoples in the Baltics just sort of appeared, and nobody knows exactly how yet. The Aryans would breed into the existing, usually smaller browner people that were already present. It was often small groups of Aryans that were sent out, as they were travelers and conquerors and explorers.

Hinduvistas to this day get all butt hurt when it is proven that the Aryans moved into the North of India.

Going back further in time, nobody really knows where CroMagnon first appeared, maybe somewhere around Ireland.

Aryans would settle down and take tribute on the populations that they mingled with.

All humans today are hybrids, with the Irish probably being the most pure Cro Magnon. Of course, that won’t be for long, as the Jewish project of multiculturalism moves ahead.

  123. @Bardon Kaldian

Scandinavian Rus theory is widely accepted in the Anglophone world, but not elsewhere. Look how incoherent it is.

The name Rus, like the Proto-Finnic name for Sweden “rootsi”, is derived from an Old Norse term for “men who row” because rowing was the main method of navigating the rivers, and could be linked to the Swedish coastal area of Roden. The name Rus would then have the same origin as the Finnish and Estonian names for Sweden: Ruotsi and Rootsi – this is from your reference.

Now think for a second, how likely is it that a tribe of Swedes would derive its name from the Finnish or Estonian language, as well as how often have we heard of a people that had something as stupid as the “men who row” for a name. This is what we call a far-fetched piece of nonsense.

Compare that with the Anti-Normanist version, based on three hundred years of research conducted by scholars who could speak Russian.

The name of the Rus comes from their appearance – “rus” is a common hair color among them, the most widespread, blond to light brown. People with this hair color are called “red-haired” in the West. The word “red” itself comes from the same Indo-European root and sounds alike in most European languages.

The Latin word “russeus” has the same meaning, and the same origin with the corresponding words, in French – rouge; in another Slavic language, Slovenian – rdeča. So how could it be explained then, if we accept the idea that the Swedes had borrowed the word “rus” from the Finnish tribes, and then the Russians borrowed it from the Swedes – that does not look plausible to me.

The literal translation of “the Rus people” to Russian is “the red-haired people” – this looks a lot more plausible.

Ahmad ibn Fadlan – from your reference, wrote: “They are blond and ruddy.” Now it is natural to assume that the etymology of the name is from the description of the people, their prominent traits, their appearance. Therefore “blond and ruddy” in English is the same description as “rus” in Russian.

And in relation to the notion of Norsemen – “the Russi, whom we call Norsemen” – well there is nothing out of ordinary here. For the Greeks, the Russians were the people from the north. And the Russians are from the north.

Russia began in Novgorod, not in Kiev.

Scandinavians are very trusting and gullible, for good and for ill. Organized Jewry has been active here for a very long time. The Danish central bank (private), for example, was established in 1818, and an old synagogue is attached to the Parliament building in Copenhagen, built in 1731 (I don’t know when the synagogue was built, and can find no information on it, but it is fully integrated with the parliament, indeed, quite centrally located in the building-complex, so I would not be surprised to learn that it was built at the same time.)

The last real rebellion was in 1534, and was crushed by German mercenaries hired by the King. And Denmark was the first country in the world to legalize pornography, I regret to say, as well as the first country to create a national database of citizens (we are given a “health-number” at birth, since 1924). Copenhagen, our capital, has been named by one of the global technocratic institutions, I don’t remember which one, as one of the cities most ready to become a “smart city”, and a new, mandatory digital ID is being rolled out at the moment. And people are happy with it all, in general. Spiritually and intellectually, it is a deadzone, with rare exceptions. As a stark example, our entire parliament, from left to right, unanimously voted to partake in the ruthless destruction of Lybia – and afterwards, nothing was said about it.

What was it Hamlet said? “Something is rotten in the State of Denmark”, no?

    It is what it is.

Prior to Harald Fairhair battling to become king of all Norway (the cause of much of the Icelandic settlement) there were dozens of “kings” in Norway. Virtually all of them relied on the trust of locals to keep them in power. Not entirely egalitarian, but co-operation was required. Most of the early raids were from individual settlements, where the virtually all of the population played a role in preparing or going on the raid. I am I1-M253 haplogroup which is very prevalent in Scandinavia, perhaps dominant haplogroup. The areas that the “Rus”(rowers) would have come from in Sweden is top heavy with I1 even today. Some argue that it is actually not an Indo-European haplogroup because it was in Europe prior to Indo migration. I don’t know about that one way or the other. What I do know is that Goths, Lombards, Swedes, Norwegians and even Danes of yesteryear carried a very high prevalence of I1 Ydna and area of Ukraine once housed Goths as well as Swedes(Rus) who settled there. Danes of Viking Age appear at least from most recent studies to have carried I1 but even more prevalent R1b-U106 haplogroup. Many Viking Age burials wherein Ydna can still be obtained have a high prevalence of I1. Yes, R1a is also found in areas of British Isles where Vikings settled but likely mostly from Norwegians. All that I am saying to you and I have the science behind what I say is that most if not all I1 found in areas of Russia and Ukraine hails from settlement of Vikings. Of this is there no doubt. I have no family or any relation to Russia or Ukraine yet ancestors with my Ydna surely did. I am sure they were not just sight-seeing.

Some sources contend that the Futhark, their Runic alphabet, may have been influenced by the Etruscans. If so, that would been before Republican Rome’s conquest of Etruria. So we are likely talking ca 200 B.C. or thereabouts, were that the case. Not having paper, the Norsemen etched their angular letters in stone and wood. Sweden, in particular, is almost awash in such stones.

Ever check out the old comic strip, Hagar the Horrible. Helga wielded a mighty powerful rolling pin. Womenfolk usually dominated household politics, though there were exceptions. Class differences were comparatively minor, as depending on one’s martial prowess, it was quite possible for a relatively low-ranker to rise in socio-economic prestige.

Norway was forcibly converted to XTIanity by “Saint” Olaf, who was known for treating captive chieftains in a very special way. He had them spread-eagled on the ground and bare-chested. He then had his minions place a pan of hot coals on his belly. His followers usually rapidly converted to the way of the Crucifix (a totally evil symbol) as a result of that which they witnessed.

And this movie is curiously timed to current events: Azov “Nazis” and white male, straight male, patriarchy=evil (going into hyperdrive), and the female is justified in setting up her husband, not loving her child, or choosing a child over another (this is subtle abortion propaganda), and rape accusations are always true (which they are almost always the opposite in fact). This is Tamudic propaganda in hidden cover.

I am a big guy(6’4 270-275 lbs) but not a body builder. Never have been though I can probably lift more than many body builders(as opposed to power lifters) That said, I agree with you in spirit. I see these cheaper ‘Viking’ films, pictures, drawings etc and the guys builds look ridiculous. No one would have been built like Arnold Schwarzenegger back then. No roids. Even the average man however would likely have had a body with more defined muscular features due to their daily physical labors as well as no local stores around to go buy chips dip and beer from anytime they pleased to stuff their faces with. And boys/men would have been what I used to hear called “cock strong” by nature. There are examples of very large even by today’s standards men in Viking Age Scandinavia but those men were exceptions. One instance was found in a grave in southern Norway. If memory serves me well, this man was near at 7 feet tall and had been killed by edged weapons likely by at least 3-4 attackers. Upon close study the scientists believe he suffered from what used to be called “gigantism” His size was not normal. A good website to find results of Ydna found in Viking Age graves along with body mass estimates is Anthrogenica.com There were indeed some relative to the time tall men(6 feet+) and usually when heavy built listed by anthropologists as “robust”. To however make them appear as roided up body builders as so often is the case today is beyond ridiculous as you infer. A good example of what would have been considered a big guy back then is to be found in a found grave in a known Viking Age camp in Repton England.

This Viking man was right at 6 ft tall.

    https://www.researchgate.net/figure/Reconstruction-of-graves-511-left-and-295-right-from-Repton-United-Kingdom_fig2_337200386

The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle for Anno 874 (actually 873) has the entry:

“Her for se here from Lindesse to Hreopedune, ⁊ þær wintersetl nam, ⁊ þone cyning Burgred ofer se adræfdon ymb .xxii. wintra þæs þe he rice hæfde, ⁊ þæt lond all geeodon.”

“This year went the army from Lindsey to Repton, and there took up their winter-quarters, drove the king, Burhred, over sea, when he had reigned about two and twenty winters, and subdued all that land”

  145. @Ulf Thorsen

The man in this grave had his manhood removed by either a sword or more likely an axe blow. Thus his brothers laid a bore’s tusk in the grave between his legs representing in the next life what he lost in this one. Interestingly, they also laid the wing of a Jackdaw there as well. Jackdaw’s at that time anyway were often seen as omens. Current theories are this man may have been Amlaib Conung who was ambushed along with his men and killed by Scottish king Consantine the 1st when Amlaib returned to again collect his street-tax(tribute). The Scots obviously had had enough of it.

Thanks for your response. What I asked was about the claim of Literacy for Viking era men. No paper? That is a handicap to literacy.

    “most men were quite literate”

I am not sure this is accurate. Literacy as we understand it, implies the ability to write sentences, letters, even sagas. By way of comparison, literacy in Revolutionary America, 1776, has been estimated at 25%.

The movie we are discussing, The Northman, appears to be a sensationalist Hollywoodish hack and slash, with some sex thrown in. This genre of movies and literature may be enjoyable, (I certainly watch them), Lord of the Rings, 300, etc.. But do they accurately display the historic societies, or even the fictionalized societies they purport to depict? Are their Heroes real, or even possible?

Look at the bright side. We are all The Northman, Clint Eastwood, Bruce Willis, Hoppalong Cassidy, tall, handsome, fearless, with beautiful ladies throwing themselves at our feet. I know I fit the description. What about you?

  153. You have not the science behind it and not the understanding what you are talking about. Forgive me for being rude.

You cannot be of one particular haplogroup. A man has a bunch of them. You cannot make a conclusion that, if someone has something with you in common then he must be getting this something from you, unless you are totally stupid.

This has to work the other way round. And the point is, that neither the Russians nor the Ukrainians have the genes that are common between the Swedes, and therefore they are not related. Look again at that chart.

There are groups within the group. The chart is focused on the branches of the R1a haplogroup found in the European people. You can see that the branch that is dominant among the Swedes is Z284 – the blue one.

Had there been any cross-breeding between the Swedes and the Russians, the latter would have some amount of that branch of the R1a haplogroup in their genome, but they do not.

    Here is another chart.

This one shows the general distribution of the R1a haplogroup regardless of the branches. You can see that it is most widespread in the north of India and the west of Russia.

Therefore there is a biological connection between the Russians and the peoples of the North India. There is also a presence of this haplogroup in Scandinavia, but it is a lot less prominent.

This is how conclusions are made – there are layers of changes in these groups of chromosomes and tracking them down we can understand who made who, who came first and where from.

And while your mouths are still open in admiration, the message is shoved down your ingenuous right-wing throats:

Whitey as violent, brutal, rapist, animal-like berserk brutes, burning children and elders.

But never mind, as long as the shots are beautiful (which they always are, from Hollywood).

Amleth kills her…

And don’t be surprised at the end, when the hero becomes anti-hero and the initial plot morals are put upside down.

That’s part of Hollywood’s disdain and ‘deconstruction’ of Whitey’s value systems in order to show that the “oaths” Anglo-Saxons like to swear are as ridiculously pathetic as morally void.

  158. @Mefobills

Thanks for the videos. I was most impressed with the Scythians; lack of materialism and a truth and honor based culture. Also critically important was their disdain for merchants and their detestation of living in cities. Makes me feel right at home in a Norse dominated county in the Northwoods of Minnesota.

It is quite possible that this grouping of “uitwanders” happens to be far more reflective of those traditional land/nature-based roots than urban Scandinavians, more particularly the Swedes and Danes—although Oslo itself has lost much of Norse tradition. Norway just happens to be fortunate in that as an entirety they are more rural than the other two.

Unfortunately, the current “chief” of NATO, Jens the Whiner besmirches his native land in a sense rather similar to Vidkun Quisling. Siding with the Empire of Lies is not the northern way.

As a Skald in a former lifetime (now to get denounced by all the academicist, left-brain overloaded types) ; the lack of the written form of literacy, that is in long dissertations to which I happen to be prone; in traditional Norse culture, was a powerful oral tradition where Skalds, utilizing a bit of rhyming and much alliteration, were able to pass on those Eddas and Sagas multigenerationally.

With a probable majority of the Scandinavians able to read the Futhark etchings; that lack of paper, papyrus, or considerable quantities of vellum; rendered them by one way of looking at things as civilizationally illiterate. As the Norse folk generally abjured cities of any significant size, we must look at them as a land-based CULTURE as against being civilized, per se. The word “civilized” means tamed enough to live in cities, join in the rat-race and obligingly taking orders.

The Northman depicts a society that is quite foreign to contemporary sensibilities. It’s unlikely many of us would want to live in it—unless one was able to be a male in a successful Männerbund. But there’s no denying that the society selected for strong men—something we definitely need now.

Principled violence by private individuals was what maintained societal norms until about a century ago. A couple of anecdotes from my family illustrate this.

In 1913, my eldest aunt returned to her parents’ home because her husband was getting drunk and beating her, despite him descending from one of the county’s wealthiest families. Her husband began to brag that he was going to take her back by force. My grandfather went to town and spoke with the local judge, who in essence suggested that he take care of the problem by violence if it occurred on his property. When the husband arrived at the fence between the road and my grandparents’ house, my grandfather met him with revolver in hand and told him that the judge had said, “If Wilbur Miflin enters your yard, you should find out what a dead son-of-a-bitch looks like.” So informed, Mr. Miflin,

    departed and filed for divorce.

More recently, in 1946 my father, a mild and kind man, and his business partner, a scumbag, sold a small auto dealership for cash. Driving away together, the business partner said that he would send my father a check for his half of the proceeds. My father demanded immediate division of the cash, stating “otherwise your wife is not going to recognize you when you get home.”

The sociopaths rule us today precisely because women on juries have made principled violence impossibly costly for good men.

I don’t know how we know that. Linguistically, the Scandinavian languages have been classified as North Germanic for as long as I can remember. There are 6,000-year old proto-Germanic words that have even been incorporated into the entirely unrelated Finnish language by way of their neighboring Scandinavian Germanics. Indeed, many of the Germanic tribes (Teutones, Cimbri) that gave so much trouble to the Romans originated in Denmark and south Sweden (Goths.)

Your haplogroup is like a club you belong to that can only be associated with the ancestors on one single direct line of inheritance. This club membership helps you define where in the world your direct line may have originated. It can also describe your affiliation with a particular special interest group – SIG – within your club that may help you answer some genealogical questions about the origin of your ancestors.

Your membership dues are paid in single changes in your DNA that have accumulated over time. We call these single changes SNPs (pronounced “snips”). Just like donations to any club’s account can be tracked to ensure you receive the benefits, each SNP has a time and a place stamp that lets us know when you have “paid” and which SIGs you may belong to.

Unfortunate but true: So many of the sons of the North, growing up on family farms, were driven off the land by deliberate corporate/governmental polity in the Post WWII era.

They and/or their descendants ended up in sub-urbs, which are all about conformity to the devolutionary norm and ultimately bereft of any residual common-sense via deliberate dumbing-down schooling, the mind-fucking boobtoob and nowadays, gamerism and socialized media.

Of all this I keenly know, because I managed to survive those indelicate transitions and managed to get back to the land and my ancestral roots. After all, as the old African proverb reminds us: “It takes a village to raise a child”.

  182. @anon

Anon: You may not have seen my prior postings on this subject. To wit, German historiography and ethnography totally dominated 19th Century explorations of these matters. In that era their universities were in toto, the best in the Western world. Being quite nationalistic after their experiences with the Napoleonic wars; German scholars insisted that the Nordics were Germanics, rather than the other way around.

North Germans, in particular, happen to be primarily Nordic in appearance. The Roman Catholic elements in Germany are primarily to be found in the Rhineland and Barbaria. Those regions were long under Roman occupation, and soldiers like to do what they like to do to the women of occupied countries. Thus, western and southern Germans are partially Germanic/Nordic, with massive admixtures of DNA from throughout the Roman Empire.

One outstanding example of this blended culture in the southern Germanic lands was Adolf Hitler, with his dark hair and blue eyes. Likely, his original paternal DNA was quite the admixture. On his paternal grandmother’s side (the Shickelgrubers); the sperm-donor was the head of the Austrian branch of the Rottenfeller Crime Clan. That man preferred young serving girls, who worked in his Vienna mansion.

Hitler’s paternal grandmother became knocked-up when working for the Rottenchild master. So Ms. Shickelgruber returned to her rural home and promptly married one Alois Hitler. Thus, the thoroughly mixed-blood Adolf, had an element of self-hatred in his makeup and fantasized about the German Nordics, of whom he was both enamored and envious.

    The rest is history.

  186. @Lagertha

You are ignorant, but that is not your fault. These lies are told to stir animosity against Russia.

Kiovan Rus were the Khazarians who were the most ruthless killers, deceivers of all time. They were a breed of psychopaths who are still harming us.

Kiev had been a Slavonic town, but was forced to submit to the Khazars and paid a tax to them. Prince Oleg captured Kiev and made it “mother of Rus’ cities” – the capital. From then on it paid no tribute to the Khazars.

The term Kievan Rus’ was coined to refer to the period when the capital was in Kiev, it controlled three main trade routes of Eastern Europe. Kievan Rus’ prospered due to its location.

Kiev was a hub with the trade route between the Khazars and Central Europe, Novgorod served as a link between the Baltic Sea and the route to the markets of Central Asia and the Middle East.

Trade from the Baltic moved south through a network of rivers and portages along the Dnieper known as the “route from the Varangians to the Greeks,” continuing to the Black Sea and on to Constantinople.

The Kiovan Rus attacked Scandinavia and Finland and stole countless women and girls and sold them to slave markets of South Asia.

    Nonsense!

There were a number of conflits between the Rus and the Scandinavian peoples, and for the most part the latter were those who initiated them.

Prince Yaroslav the Wise of Kiev won a war against Finnic and Estonian tribes and established a fort on the border of their land. Then for a period of time Kievan Rus’ collected tribute from them. Later there were conflicts between Finnic tribes and the Republic of Novgorod.

Furthermore, according to the Novgorod Chronicle, the Swedish troops attacked the Novgorod merchants in the Baltic Sea region, and killed a whole lot of people – this is the first known case of hostilities between Sweden and Novgorod.

According to Swedish sources, the Novgorodians then launched pirate raids against Sweden. “During one of such raid, they brought to Novgorod the doors of the Sigtuna cathedral as loot.”

Such actions gave reasons for a war against Novgorod, but Novgorodian sources do not mention these events. A Swedish fleet approached Ladoga but was defeated, with most of its ships captured.

And later there were crusades against Rus’ – the Teutonic Knights of the Livonian Order entered with the aim to conquer the lands of Novgorod and convert them to Catholicism.

And don’t forget it was the Russians who created Finland.

I’m a little bigger than you, and have always been unusually strong. I remember my Dad freaking out when I picked up an old style American refrigerator and put it into our pickup truck (I live in Texas).

I used to run behind tractors and throw bails of hay for fun, just to see how much distance I could get. I also wrestled, and enjoyed abusing my negro opponents. Negroes always looked stronger than me, but I could literally crush them, despite their “well muscled” look. The fear look on their faces as they came to realization was always a high point for me.

Later, when I toured Norway, I was the biggest and tallest person I found. It saddened me.

There is some anthropology that suggest RED NORDICS evolved on the top of the mountains, hunting big game. This would go back to the ice ages, over 10,000 years ago.

They wrapped their faces and bodies against the wind and sun, and hence did not develop the ability to tan. Their eyes are dark blue rather than light blue.

They lived on diets of extreme amounts of protein, and probably were in competition with Neanderthals in the same range. A red nordic will instinctively be disgusted by the presence of a Neanderthalic appearing person.

Fjord Nordics were eating fish and had agriculture. They are smaller people, not given to growing much past 6 feet, much less hitting 7 ft tall and also being a strong mesomorph.

I had no trouble pulling in the Norwegian babes, as they are still genetically programmed to respond t0 giant Berzerker Red Nordics (even though we are going extinct).

I’m not putting women down, of course they can step up and run business and do what is necessary if the men are dead.

I am saying, correctly, that it is not man’s instinct to put women into combat. Women are to be protected by men.

You are probably half my size, and I could probably quite literally throw you across the room with one arm.

In the old days, women could not wield battle axes, and would be quickly vanquished by much stronger, and more battle capable men.

There are no matriarchies in history that lasted for any appreciable time. The proper hierarchical order is a patriarchy, and women are to be given their space to raise children in the proper way.

Women always buck up against the Patriarchy, or want to shit-test it. Typically, due to my size, women invariably skip over the shit-testing phase.

The macho Röhm, a key early backer of Hitler, was then head of the Nazi Party militia, the Stormtroopers. In the letters, he described his desire for men, writing “I consider myself to be same-sex orientated.” The outcome of a subsequent libel suit forced Röhm to tacitly concede in public what he never denied in private – that the letters were not fakes and he was, indeed, same-sex orientated.

A long-forgotten essay called “National Socialism and Inversion” allows a close look at queer fascism. The essay is part of a public exchange that a man in Röhm’s circle had with the most famous of Germany’s homosexual emancipation groups, the center-left Scientific Humanitarian Committee – SHC. The author of “National Socialism and Inversion” was a member of the Stormtroopers; he is identified in the text only as “Anonymous.”

Anonymous did not exactly disagree with the mainstream Nazi Party’s position on male-male eroticism. He, too, hated homosexuality. To Anonymous, “homosexuality” meant male femininity, Marxism, and Judaism. Yet in his worldview, there were multiple queer subjectivities, or multiple ways to be a queer person. What he saw in himself was not “homosexuality” but something else entirely, a “manly Eros” that was spiritual rather than lustful, and was experienced discreetly among “healthy and respectable fellows” in the Nazi Party militia.

“Manly Eros” was, Anonymous wrote, “fundamentally” different from homosexuality as defined by the left-leaning SHC, a form of male-male eroticism he associated with feminine men, gender-crossing, and transvestitism. He hated the limited public queer culture that existed in Germany in the 1920s, the dance palaces, the magazines, and the moonlight cruises. The SHC’s advocacy of citizenship for homosexuals was steeped in “liberalism and Marxism,” he wrote, and “violates the characteristics of our race.” But masculine, discreet, manly Eros was wholly compatible with a healthy “Aryan” racial consciousness.

Hey Tex, just in case you are capable of reading books, check out three from the late Dr. Leonard Shlain, a brain surgeon and polymath. He is a father of three and a polymath, that being highly studied and theoretically minded outside of his specialty. Books are “The Alphabet versus the Goddess”; “Leonardo’s Brain” and “Sex, Time and Power”.

Shlain totally dismisses his own Jewish background’s Old Testicles approach as well as the now discredited concept of samesex eroticism as a mental condition that needs “correcting”. He posits evolutionary reasons for that set of preferences, as well as women’s roles in the development of humanity’s concept of time and of opposite sex pairbonding. Shlain is an original thinker, and though rather leftbrain materialistic in much of his approach, nevertheless is a thought-provoking read.

Yeah, I remember principled violence! That’s where a girl’s brothers show up and persuade a fellow that his unwanted advances toward their sister are unprincipled.

I remember a specific case in Chicago where a guy who had been molesting young boys in a Greek neighborhood was fished out of the Chicago River with his testicles stuffed in his mouth.

My favorite, though, was Hutchie Moore. Hutchie was a disabled retired police detective. He was in divorce court. He rose from his wheelchair; his blanket fell from his lap revealing – I believe it was a shotgun that he had laid across his legs. Hutchie blew away the judge and his wife’s lawyer. The press wanted to make a big horror out of it, but the public reaction in favor of Hutchie was so strong that the whole thing was quickly memory holed. Now that’s principled violence! It didn’t do much to maintain societal norms, though, since the law is still an ass.

  217. “it provides a positive portrayal of what would be seen as extreme “toxic” masculinity among White men”

But does not the movie portray genetic degeneracy with respect to showing European family disunity by creating a story line where a king is killed by his own brother who then takes his wife as his own? The whole plot is about intra-family disunity, as if the Ashkenazim are trying to portray this as a normal and healthy aspect of European society. On the other hand, perhaps this does indeed represent reality among the Europeans during the Middle Ages, since this was a time when Europeans were transitioning from being K-Selected to R-Selected. Your description of the movie seems to me to be indicative of an R-Selected state, such as enslaving each other, killing each other for power, raping your own females, treating your own elderly and less physically abled members with very low altruism, placing very high value on promiscuity, etc. Personally, these R-Selected historical periods are not the times I value among the Europeans; I see ethno-nationalism as mimicking more K-Selected periods, such as the Mycenaean times, early Roman culture before the empire was formed, and the English period from 1600 to right before the degenerate Enlightenment was created.

“It is difficult for us to imagine the importance and seriousness of swearing a public oath in a religious ceremony in traditional Indo-European (I-E) culture.”

Yes, my understanding is that religion is very useful for the survival of a race. Perhaps religion at this time was more in the form of an Individually Selected type, as opposed to a form which bonds the whole race as one? I don’t know the history here; I’m just trying my best to make Woodley of Menie’s model congruent with Professor MacDonald’s one. Anyway, this was something I wrote on European religion:
    ____________________________________________________________

Why China Can’t Invent Anything, Rendering Them an Easy Conquest for the Ashkenazim

I used to have an unwarranted belief that China would be the salvation for Hominid kind, carrying on the process of “upwards” evolution after the rest of the Hominids continue to de-evolve and possibly go extinct. But, I now understand that just like how the universally constant laws of physics would similarly affect evolution of life on any planet in the known universe, the constant laws of evolution on earth – in this case, dysgenics and mutational load – would similarly affect all races on our planet. Thus, China would face the same processes of dysgenics and mutational load that is responsible for destroying all the other races. In fact, China was already genetically behind the Europeans and Ashkenazim; for a race to be creative/innovative, they must possess certain traits. For one, the General Intelligence distribution must have a wider standard deviation, that is, instead of most of the population being concentrated along the median score, there must be a high percent of them in the extremely high Intelligence range – specifically IQs that are 140 and higher. Europeans have a much higher standard deviation than the Chinese, so they have more than adequate absolute quantities of people in the very high IQ range. So even though the median IQ of the Chinese is higher than Europeans, they have much less individuals in the very high IQ range when compared to the Europeans.

Next, to be creative and innovative, a race must have high Industriousness – the desire to be productive in all aspects of life. Both races in question have this trait in adequate amounts. Finally, a race must possess a high amount of a cluster of traits known as ‘Religiosity-Spirituality-Monumentalism-Open to Experience.’ While the Europeans are abundant in this trait, the Chinese are highly lacking. This cluster of traits predisposes a race for the tendency to seek out new experiences, try to understand the unknown and to experience the unknown, see the world, reality, and existence as having a spiritual/transcendental element which motivates them to seek out the most intangible experiences in the hopes to experience, understand, and benefit from it, see life as something that is not just about fulfilling basic necessitates and basic hedonistic desires, but about living to accomplish a bigger, greater, monumental goal – something that must be achieved by the collective effort and cooperation of their race – that will serve as an achievement that will bring meaning and purpose to the race and that will continue to exist and be improved upon by future generations, and finally, in many cases, outright believe in a God, the Eternal Soul, and an After-Life.

Consequently, since China lacks both the sufficient amount of individuals in the very high IQ range and collectively a high amount of ‘Religiosity-Spirituality-Monumentalism-Open to Experience,’ they can’t produce any geniuses that are responsible for high value innovation/creativity. China’s strategy has thus been to copy other races’ innovations and discoveries and then progressively make minute improvements upon them by using large teams of mediocre Chinese intellects.

Thus, the solution for the Ashkenazim to conquer China is clear: cut off all outside information to China by all means possible. China will intellectually starve to death and collapse.
    ____________________________________________________________

    “I-E culture was fundamentally individualist”

I have always been confused by the use of the term “individualist” to describe Europeans. When I hear the word “individualist” I think of the Individual Selection versus Group Selection model. Thus, by saying that Europeans are “individualists,” one is saying that they are Individually Selected genetic psychopaths who exist just to serve their individual needs, as opposed to existing to facilitate the well-being of their race as a whole. When Professor MacDonald uses the word “individualist,” does he really mean that Europeans are low on Ethnocentrism, relative to other races? If so, then would it be better to use the phrase “low ethnocentrism” instead of “individualism”? Thus, Europeans in past K-Selected periods where relatively high on Group Selectiveness, but a type that comprised relatively low Ethnocentrism. As such, the members worked for the well-being of their entire society, but members of the society were allowed to be less genetically related to each other, relative to more Ethnocentric groups.

On a final note, Professor MacDonald has titled his book “Individualism And The Western Liberal Tradition.” What confuses me here is the use of the term “Liberal” to describe Europeans. Contemporary European Liberals are a highly genetically degenerated gene pool, even more so than contemporary European “Conservatives.” The current European Liberals exclusively comprises homosexuals, transsexuals, feminists, atheists/nihilists, and relatively high IQ genetic psychopaths who see being a Liberal as being a means by which they can acquire resources, especially by prostituting themselves to the Ashkenazim (many of the Liberals belong to more than one of these groups). Thus, the title of the book gives the impression that it makes the argument that Europeans have always been like contemporary European Liberals. Actually, my understanding is that Europeans have always cycled throughout history from being more traditional to approaching the state of current European Liberals, but never actually reached the low genetic levels of the current Liberal Europeans – they always in the past collapsed before reaching this low.

    …the wonderful blonde-haired…

The following map of blonde hair prevalence is far better delineated geographically, with regard to specific political regions. Though the upper bound is >30% the definition of what shades are still classified as “blonde-haired” may be more strict in this case. I have visited all the eight countries that could be regarded as Nordic (Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) during summer months and never did I get the impression that a majority of adults were actually truly blonde, as I understand the term (fake-blonde women are relatively easy to spot, due to their unnatural monochrome shades and darker roots), though younger kids were indeed prevalent in some places.

Map of Blondes (no data source)

This map correlates very nicely with the green shades in the Map of Westward Expansion of Islam that I had alluded to in my comment #58, above. European regions that had come under Islamic influence for a longer period (for instance Andalusia and Sicily) are shaded black, not surprisingly, due to higher African admixture in the general population there.

In this Map of Blondes the city regions, like Paris and London, as well as larger cities in Germany, but also the regions around Stockholm and Malmö, clearly stand out to reflect the higher percentage of Muslims there. In Switzerland there is a difference between the upper Swabian region (German) and the southern regions of Valais and Grisons, which had come under the influence of Saracene invasions toward the end of the first millenium. Though large areas in the map are shaded yellow, most of them are in very sparsely populated regions, so the actual number of remaining blonde adults is relatively small, and increasingly diminishing.

To get a better sense of the hair shades in northwestern regions such as Ireland, Wales, and Scotland, it is necessary to supplement the Map of Blondes above with a corresponding Map of Red-Heads. If the term “Rus” is supposed to refer to the color “Red“, as has been suggested in this thread, then there seems to be very little evidence of such a phenomenon in contemporary Russia.

I don’t see this at all.

Looking at the early 19th century British Industrial Revolution and the spate of invention and technology coming out of the US in the early 20th century – the innovators were basically tinkerers and experimenters – almost hobbyists – not at all spiritual transcendentalists.

People like James Watt, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford were if anything practical experimenters. Studying problems and trying endless creative combinations to find solutions. Henry Ford owned just about every model of car built in the US/Europe at the time, and personally drove them round and pulled them apart.

    For example this story:

“… even by 1905 I had fairly in mind the specifications of the kind of car I wanted to build. But I lacked the material to give strength without weight. I came across that material almost by accident.
In 1905 I was at a motor race at Palm Beach. There was a big smash-up and a French car was wrecked. we had entered out “Model K” – the high powered six. I thought that the foreign cars had smaller and better parts than we knew anything about. After the wreck I picked up a little valve strip stem. it was very light and very strong. I asked what it was made of. Nobody knew. I gave the stem to my assistant.

“Find out about this,” I told him. “This is the kind of material we ought to have in our cars”.

He found eventually that it was a French steel and that there was vanadium in it. We tried every steel maker in America – not one could make vanadium steel. I sent to England for a man who understood how to make the steel commercially. The next thing was to get a plant to turn it out. That was another problem. Vanadium requires 3.000 degrees Fahrenheit. The ordinary furnace could not go beyond 2.700 degrees. I found a small steel company in Canton Ohio. I offered to guarantee them against loss if they would run a heat for us. They agreed. The first heat was a failure. Very little vanadium remained in the steel. I had them try again, and the second time the steel came through. Until then we had been forced to be satisfied with steel running between 60,000 and 70,000 pounds tensile strength. With vanadium, the strength went up to 170,000 pounds.”

Having vanadium in hand I pulled apart our models and tested in detail to determine what type of steel was best for every part – whether we wanted a hard steel, a tough steel, or an elastic steel.”

“My Life and Work” Henry Ford, Doubleday Page & Co. 1922

Accepted that Ford had a supportive Anglo American society around him. But even in 1920 he could see that organized Jewry was attacking it. He gave an account in “The International Jew: The World’s Foremost Problem” (The Dearborn Independent 1920) . He stated that it was essential for the US stay with industry and manufacturing, and that financialization was the route to ruin, poverty and Jewish elite control.

I urge the author to delve into the sagas. The film maker surely did. The Norse were like the Sicilians in the Godfather-or balkan clans today. Endless vendettas and multi-generational blood feuds that would occasionally be forgotten with or without a suitably cinematic resolution.

  224. @Wokechoke

    Yes something like that.

Russia dismantled the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth so it’s understandable that they have hard feelings, but the bull crap they are pulling – I don’t get it. The Russians don’t mix with the indigenous peoples and most of them still have some ill feeling too. Plus there are different religions.

However the Americans were smarter – established reservations and segregated. The Russians did that only for the Tatars. And later for the Chechens. But when the communist government came to power the Empire was divided into fifteen republics with huge territories allocated to minorities.

Like, imagine if the Americans called Texas “The Comanche Republic” and would set it in the constitution that the head of the republic has to be a Comanche. The Russians did that. Now there are some of these republics where the indigenous population makes only ten percent, but they run it.

And when the USSR had collapsed there was that “parade of sovereignties” and some of those republics left, and then the Russian Federation was created. And well there were fifteen republics in the USSR – now there are twenty two in the Federation. And there is no Russian republic among them.

    Crazy.

All the maps an be found at Google Images on the Internet. The legend of the Red-Head Map you linked to, from the Guardian, which shows a conspicuous outlier in Russia, is difficult to read. The accompanying explanation says “Source: no idea“.

Contrary to your claim, the cluster you referred to is not in Moscow but much farther east, in a very sparsely populated region near the Ural mountain chain. This does not appear to be relevant to the issue of Kievan Rus history, which refers to a region much farther west, shown on the map below.

As I explained, the main point of featuring the Red-Head Map as a supplement was to provide additional context, especially with regard to regions in Britain and Ireland, which were affected by earlier Viking raids.

From what I can gather, there is a theory (not universally accepted) that large numbers of Germanic words have a pre-IE origin because of the “fusion of the Mesolithic inhabitants of Scandinavia (linked to Y-DNA haplogroup I1) and Indo-European people (associated with haplogroups R1a and R1b).” About 1/3 of Scandinavian men have I1 Y-DNA, with lesser percentages as one proceeds south from Scandinavia. I could not find an estimated percentage of pre-IE words in German. The large percentage of I1 among Scandinavians indicates that the pre-IE males were not totally wiped there. A while back, I believe Steve Sailer wrote about a Spanish study in which researchers looked at the Y chromosome distribution. By about 2,000BC, local Y chromosome lineages had been eliminated from the Iberian gene pool, in favour of those carried by the newcomers. indicating an elimination of the pre-IE males. A similar phenomenon happened in Britain with the arrival of the IE.

  230. @Been_there_done_that

You are making good points here, though let us not forget that in the Mediterranean region most people have been dark haired forever – the Greeks, the Spanish etc. and Muslims do not cross-breed with the infidels. On the other hand, there is some correlation with the map of expansion of Islam but it looks like we are dealing with immigrant population there. Perhaps it matters, but who knows how much. Here we need to look at the DNA.

You have noted that large areas in the map of light hair distribution are also those of sparse population – excellent point. The same areas have a small percentage of immigrant population as well. So in order to get a complete picture of what we are talking about we need the data referring to particular ethnicities, as we have that of nationalities. And indeed we also need to supplement it with the map of red hair. We have the map. See the map in the references.

The region on the right, with more than ten perent of red-heads is where the Udmurt people reside. These are of the Finno-Ugric group and are not Indo-European. The other two regions – the one on top and the one next to Finland – are where other Finno-Ugric people live. You can compare this map with a map of the Uralic languages and see that there is a correlation too. Meaning, the red hair color is rare among the ethnic Russians. There are some references below.

Here it might appear that there is a confusion, with the line of reasoning in the comment, posted earlier but in fact it makes the argument even stronger. The problem is that for the sake of keeping it more digestible I had to omit some particularities, for example that there are two words in Russian to refer to what in the West is often called with one word – blond. This is a European word and it was not used in Russia because it’s a later borrowed word.

However in the dictionaries it is explained that in Europe “blond” is “a mixed color between golden and light-brown” – that is, often including what we call “ginger” or sometimes red – the reddish-brown color. Depending on the language, it can be more or less consistent. Examples, a red-haired person: in French – rousse, in Italian – testarossa, in Dutch – roodharige, in German – Rotkopf, in Slovak – ryšavec, in Latin – rūfus and note this, in Norman – rousseau.

The corresponding word in Russian is рыжий – rýžij, and all these words are derived from the same Proto-Indo-European root *hrewd-. You can check it, but trust me on this one. Compare, in Sanskrit, रुधिर – rudhirá. Furthermore, all the European words for the term “blond” are likewise derived from the same Proto-Indo-European root, *blend-. The meaning of *blend- is “blond, red-haired” and again in Sanskrit, ब्रध्न – bradhná, and the meaning is “ruddy, pale red, yellowish”.

Now, the confusion comes from the fact, that in Russian there is no term for “blond” that is derived from the root *blend- like in the European languages, and instead the Russian word русый – rusij, from Proto-Slavic word “rus” is derived from the same root as the aforementioned word ры́жий – rýžij, and that is from Proto-Indo-European root *hrewd- like all the European words for “red”. But the meaning of the word is the same as “blond” – there is an overlap here.

Look into the dictionary and you will see that “русый – rusij” is used for “fair-haired, blond, light brown” whereas “рыжий – rýžij”, is for “red-haired, red-headed, ginger” but both of these words are derived from the same root *hrewd-. And for some reason, in Russian there are no words derived from the root *blend- at all. So what we are talking about is that although it has been suggested, that the term “Rus” is used to refer to “red” hair color, it is used in fact to refer to blond color.

But there is an overlap, and from personal experience I know that sometimes people call a blond person “ginger” and a ginger head “blond” and that it depends on the language. The main point is to demonstrate that “Rus” is a natural self-name of the Russians, and that it was not borrowed or adopted from another people. The notion that a tribe of Varangians was called the Rus because that was the name for Sweden in the language of some Finnic tribes is a complete nonsense.

Even though one tribe of Scandinavians – the Normans, in their language had a word that does not sound too different that is because it was adopted from the Old French, after they had migrated to France. No language of the Germanic branch has a word that is related to “rus” and is pronounced more or less similar, and it is in the Romance languages alone where words like that can be found, but there is no relation with the Scandinavian languages.

And speaking of the red hair color, it seems that the Finno-Ugric peoples are those who possess this attribute the most.

It seems, you are confused. Nordics (I1) and Serbs (i.e. I2 Slavs) are the first genetic cousins. No one said that one originated from the other (‘I’ haplogroup split to I1 and I2). Scandinavians, so as Serbs (European aborigines), originated in Lepenski Vir/Vinca and later moved to Scandinavia. Scandinavians did not come from steppe. Yamnaya nomads (R1b) came from steppe, conducted genocides on I2 and mixed with I1 on the north.

One part, where they dance round a fire, just lacked a gay Viking choreographer running around squealing ‘No, Stephanson! Put more wiggle in your shield banging and OMG! Are you a bear or a meerkat?’ Really a very homoerotic film.

  237. My son and I just returned from watching The Northman. It was two big thumbs down from us, simply because it seemed poorly written dialog along with one dimensional characters. No one is fully human it seems. It just is a bad movie. We say this having thoroughly enjoyed the first several seasons of Netflix’s “Last Kingdom” series.

And of course, we just don’t know Viking Culture, we are simply clueless about it. So it could be a “great movie” to someone deeply in the know about Vikings. But we both shook our heads and looked at each other each time something struck us as funny, odd or “Did they make this up?”

    …Such as:

    1) Pretending to be like a dog or wolf
    2) Going crazy or insane to be a great fighter and attacking force.
    3) Doing mushrooms
    4) Sacrificing animals such as horses and women. Making ritual animal sacrifices, isn’t that a Jewish thing or did all primitive people get off on this?
    5) Doing a burn-them-all kind-of Holocaust of sorts on people you’ve just conquered.
    6) Capturing other white people and taking them to slave-away in Iceland.
    7) Swimming for miles in freezing ocean water (and with no body fat to speak of!)
    8) Being basically unwashed all the time. (Just one natural hot springs scene, as if “why” after years of living dirty)
    9) Did they believe in a “hell”? Was that apart of Oden Religion? Apparently the way to go to Oden? was to die in battle and get stabbed in the heart. Hence kill someone and take their heart, opps now they can’t go to Oden?

(And to the other comment elsewhere, no it did not seem homoerotic at all to us.)

The part about a finely crafted “super strong” sword seems very plausible. Mankind’s relationship to Power can be viewed in a relational way, like an equation, like we look at “Supply & Demand Curves” today.

Here I am saying that whenever one human tribal group gains the upper hand in Mankind’s “Technology of Power Arms Race”, all others that do not have that “Technology of Power”, go on to get dominated, submit and/or get wiped out. That is the result of this equation that I am speaking about.

This equation being, when the COST of the Technology of Power is LOW and diffused, such as say the Bow and Arrow, then the resulting power structures in multiple societies built around that low-cost & very diffused “Technology of Power” BECOMES or Quickly Evolves towards an anarchistic or very “small government” or “small sets of roughly equally powerful chiefdoms all spread out. THen it becomes an group arms race to simply have more people.

But when the “Technology of Power” results in a HIGH cost and concentrated, such as say Costly Iron Cannons on large costly Ship, then the resulting power structures become large and concentrated, like a large Nation-State.

So the Super Sword giving Vikings Super terrifying power is perhaps key to understanding Vikings. The question is “Where did the Vikings get this technology?” Did they come up with Super Swords themselves or did they get them from doing trade along long trade routes to say Persians in Iran? They could have thereby used these super swords to go dominate and devastate and rule over all other tribal peoples not nearly as well defended with their weapon’s technology. Vikings could be seen as just a particular white tribal group that got its hands upon a superior weapons technology and then home grown ship building extended their reach to widely spread out white tribal groups throughout Europe.

Anyone fill free to fill me in… I am sure I have a lot to learn when it comes to Vikings.

“Christians”, for the most part are not spiritual followers of Jesus, but infected with the wiles of the Emperor Constantine, who created the religion as it exists today. There are a few exceptions to the madness. Quakers come to mind. Worst of the lot are the Calvinists (who are all about the Old Testicles) and the old school Roman Catholics.

There are some good folk among the latter, including St. Francis of Assisi; St. Teresa of Avila; Hildegard of Bingen and the contemporary Thomas Moore, here in the U.S. The Cross is an evil symbol of judicial murder and fear.

The original Jesusites favored the Fish, which was symbolic of Jesus as the avatar of the Age of Pisces. So what was real about the original spiritual movement was hijacked by Rome. The Emperor struck back.

So the Bible was written by man, not by Creator. Creator would not create people in his own image and then condemn them to everlasting torment if they did not believe in vicarious redemption. For the most part XTIanity is a false religion, based as it is on the ancient Hebrew WarGod, Yahweh (Jehovah) a satanic and bloodthirsty entity.

History is always written by the victors. In this case it was written by the XTIans and the English, neither of which could be considered as reliable sources. From what we can piece together from the historical timelines of the era, the organized Viking forays came as a reaction to the “Holy” Roman Emperor, Charlemagne’s conquest and massacre of the Old Saxons.

Linguistic/genetic cousins to the Jutes, the Angles and the Danes; the Old Saxons were proudly pagan. Their belief system was deeply connected to the natural world and to the spiritual realization that all life is One.

Contrarily the JudieChristie MagickMindfuckers (aka Romanized Christians ) so called, were mind-controlled aristocrats and serfs who held this ridiculous belief in vicarious redemption of alleged “sinners”, who if they believed, would not be condemned to an eternity in a made-up realm called Hell.

When Charlemagne’s highly trained and well equipped forces conquered the folk army of the Saxons, he took prisoner a relative handful of warriors and all the women, children and elders. He gave them a choice: Submit to Imperial “authority” and kiss the Cross and you would live. Refuse and you would die by the sword right on the spot. The bravest of the brave, some 10,000 of them, chose to die rather than bow down to imperial pretenses and the evil Cross.

Learning the truth of the matter from survivors of the massacres; the Scandinavian peoples, beginning with the Jutes, built an earthen wall right across the base of the peninsula, which they called the “Danewerke”. Behind the wall were huge barracks buildings, where their best young warriors stood guard against incursions by the imperialists.

It is probable that a grand council amongst all the Scandinavian peoples was held in the vicinity of Malmo, chief settlement of Scania, now a province of Sweden. Along with the aforementioned tribal nations; the Goths, the Svear (Swedes) and the Norse; determined to make war on the Empire by means of organized raids. Their enemies were the deracinated imperialists who called themselves “Christians”, but more truly were mind-controlled robots.

The first major strike against the enemy was the primary port-city of the Empire, Dorestad on one of the then branches of the lower Rhine. Third largest city of the Empire, Dorestad was also the mint-city for Charlemagne and his minions. So on a foggy morning a watchman hollered out “Ein Drachen, Ein Drachen”!!! (a dragon, a dragon) as he gaped at the sight of the dragon-head prow of the leading longship and then more of them.

Terrified in their religiously inculcated superstitious minds, the Imperial guards of the city were quickly overwhelmed, the silver in the mint and in the churches seized, slaves taken and the city burned to the ground.

Thus began the spiritual war between the Vikings and their enemies, the “Christian” Empire, which was manifestly not the adherents of the Prince of Peace. However, history, as it was written by the ultimate victors, has long ensorcelled the people of the West. The coming collapse of the West will ultimately lead to something more akin to the Spiritual Pathway of the Christed One, who revealed that “the Father is Within”.

Redemption comes about not by an avatar dying for one’s sins, rather, an understanding that all Creation is One. The ongoing war plays out on the spiritual plane.

Mere materialism, espoused by the alleged “Enlightenment”, is yet another negation of Spirit. Academic scientism is NOT the Ariadne’s Thread leading us out of Plato’s Cave—not the solution to Organized Religion. It is a blind alley and a dead end–in Hegelian terms, the antithesis to religious obscurantism. The synthesis will incorporate genuine science, but not scientistic materialism.

A new age is dawning. The metastasizing materialism of the Industrial Era was a false dawn. In the attempt to posit a road away from religion; a system based on fear, greed and compliance with false “authorities” led us down a multi-lanes freeway into the madness which is contemporary megalopolitan urbanization and centralization under a satanic oligarchy.

Take a walk into a beautiful forest and look within. Perhaps you shall then find your own answer.

We don’t really know much about Paul/Saul, the psychedelicized Pharisee. In any event, whatever he actually did write was filtered through Eusebius and the gang who worked diligently to edit, dispose, extrapolate from the earlier scriptures and scrolls. That gang was employed directly by Emperor Constantine. Thus, he was the ultimate shotcaller in all of this.

In researches in 19th Century exegetical works I discovered that some of the better writings which were attributed to Paul, were actually the parables of a spiritual master, Apollonius of Tyana, some decades earlier. You will note, perhaps, the similarity in names between Paul and Apollonius.

Ultimately, the Emperor struck back. He ran the show. It was all about establishing a new religious paradigm for the Empire, one which propounded a radically new god-concept, one which made the common folk slaves to the religion as well as to the empire. Clever conniver, eh wot?

Rus certainly comes from Ruslagen, which is the area in the cost of Sweden close to Upsala and Stockholm. Rurik had Y-DNA N1c1, so was a Finnic (not Finnish but some other Finnic) origin Swede. Henning Mankell? Someone gave me a carton of his books. Terrible. The detective, Jurt lives in a small city surrounded by farms and forests. The city is unusual. In that it has a very high rate of homicide. Homicide of old people. I mean, really old. Not 65 or 70 but 95. Plus, unusually these 95 year olds live alone in remote farms. Instead of retirement homes or in town close to caretakers medical facilities and stores.

The plot is always the same. The detective doesn’t investigate suspects. He investigates the victim. And the victim was always always a Nazi in WW2. Even though Sweden was neutral the men always joined the German army fighting on the Russian front. After the war, right up to the present the homicide victims were involved in Nazi revival activities. They were all murdered by other Nazis. The books claim there is a world wide and successful Nazi conspiracy to do something.

Kurt belongs to the wounded warrior detective type. Divorced drinks too much no real friends lives in a messy apartment lives on takeout and the equivalent of McDonalds. He has a daughter. In one book she dated a what else? A noble African immigrant medical student. The books have the typical Jewish inserts about evil Swede nationalists and noble Muslim and African immigrants. I read 2, skimmed through a couple more and dumped the entire lot into the dumpster.

Basic Jewish propaganda insertion we see in so many popular novels. Blacks gays minorities always good. One White hero defending them against evil Whites. Like those homicide investigation books and my view set in NYC. A city in which 95 or more percent are committed by blacks and Hispanics. But books, TV and movies the murderer is always a White.

The books were mostly written in the 20th century. When is was plausible that people born between 1915 and 1920 were still active. But to read them now is ridiculous as the oldest Nazis would have been born in the early 1920s.

This resulted eventually in the western orientation of the Scandinavian nations. Examples are: Harald ‘Bluetooth’ in Denmark, Olavo the Holy in Norway, King Canute , and King Ingo of Sweden. After the conversion of their nations there are records of Scandinavians on pilgrimage to Mont Michel and Compostela. And many Scandinavians studied at the University of Paris.

It is you who have not checked. Lithuania was Christianized 1387, while Kiev Rus’ (origin of Russia) in 987. That seems to make 400 years (400=1387-987). The second largest Slavic country, Poland, was Christianized 966. That seems to make 421 years (421=1387-966). While Serbs were Christianized 870. That makes 517 years. I would say that 400-500 years is hundreds of years and it is nearly half-a-millennium. The last European countries to be Christianized were the Baltic countries, not Slavic countries. Kiev Rus’ tried to Christianize these pagans around Eastern Baltic sea to the Orthodox faith and as the Teutonic Knights and recently converted Scandinavians tried to Christianize them to the Catholic faith. This caused the conflict between the Catholic and Orthodox world in the countries around the Eastern Baltic sea and between Poland and Russia.

Back in the 60’s I read a book titled “Timeless Lithuania”. True, they were the last people in Europe to hold out against the Roman evil. Point of my argument is that the sneaky medical missionary positioners usual tactic was to worm their way into the company of the king’s wife and through her to the crown prince. Next generation was christianized. That was how the Viking era ended.

j2: You totally missed my point about the timeline. It was not referent to central and Eastern Europe, but to the battle between Viking and Romanized cultures.

According to Snorre Sturluson the viking king Olav Tryggvason converted because he met a seer, who told the future correctly (he would be wounded in a war but not die), when he converted he did not have a wife. But later Olav died in the war against pagan viking kings and there is a song lamenting it. It was much like the seer’s prophecy, but Olav died. I think Snorre changed the true story. We do not know why vikings converted to Christianity.

I think that Christianity won in Europe because the cultural level (they had a long book of holy writings) and the moral level of Christian teaching was seen as higher. Of the moral level in Germanic tribes of that time, have you read Snorre’s Edda. There is a story of a queen, who prepares her children as a dinner to her husband (who had killed her father and brother). So, that was the pagan time and fortunately it passed. The story is a bit earlier as there is Attila the Hun in it, but nevertheless, that’s what the pagans were.

Christianity has very little to do with Jesus except claiming that he died for our sins. What a crock of crap. Vicarious redemption is not the messages which Jesus preached. The cultural level of much of continental Europe was far lower than that in Scandinavia.

You obviously have not researched the affliction of mass illiteracy enforced by the RC Church, nor have you explored the high levels of development in naval architecture and the decorative arts for everyday life. You are so stupid and ignorant! The Cathedrals were built by the local anonymous people. The universities including Paris, Oxford, Cambridge Salamanca, Bologna etc were founded by the Church.
The monks cleared the forests and swamps and established agricultural communities around which the towns and villages grew. Even today the highest points on the horizon of the English Fenn country are the steeples of the pre – Reformation churches.
The Church was always against forced conversions although some of the secular rulers tried to impose them.
The fruits of the Reformation were the legalization of usury, the privatisation of the issue of the currency and the establishment of the debt based financial system which has enslaved people to the current day
I doubt very much that you have ever read a book in your life but you could try the History of the Protestant Reformation in England and Ireland by William Cobbett, a PROTESTANT economist and historian, who demonstrates using figures that the ordinary English citizen were healthier and wealthier BEFORE the Reformation than afterwards.
Barren Metal by E M Jones is another good book on the history of usury.

My personal library is in the neighborhood of 2,000 volumes, heavy on history. When you assail Protestantism, you ought not paint with such a broad brush. The core of the misguided faction of that rebellion against Roman domination was “John” Calvin, whose ancestors were actually Cohens.

Calvin was into such fantasies as “predestination”. He was a thoroughgoing elitist and his doctrine was that if one was wealthy, this was a sign by “God” that this person and his family was worthy and would receive a heavenly reward.

He was also notorious as dictator of Geneva, for ferreting out any individual who was “not with us, thus against us”. These victims of his paranoic propensities were generally burned at the stake. In this he was quite the equal of Torquemada of the infamous Roman Catholic/Spanish Inquisition.

The handful of the “board” who were not one-hundred percent “on message” with the Emperor’s instructions were simply removed from the chosen panel of editorial control.

Their instructions were to create a new tentacle for imperial control over the people. Thus was the concept of slavery to the newly organized religion, appended to the imperial diktat of slavery to the state.

Christianity would also have cut back on blood feuds, very useful and an organized Church with some level of top down discipline would mirror the sort of structure that a king or chieftain would like to impose making it intuitively attractive.

Add in the fact that Christianity was a draw to the bulk of society, the women & slaves. Once it started to spread it was difficult to suppress. In the Norse Sagas Christianity isn’t so much spread by force but by an active defense of Christianity including duels.

”2. Since, however, it would be very tedious, in such a volume as this, to reckon up the successions of all the Churches, we do put to confusion all those who, in whatever manner, whether by an evil self-pleasing, by vainglory, or by blindness and perverse opinion, assemble in unauthorized meetings; [we do this, I say,] by indicating that tradition derived from the apostles, of the very great, the very ancient, and universally known Church founded and organized at Rome by the two most glorious apostles, Peter and Paul; as also [by pointing out] the faith preached to men, which comes down to our time by means of the successions of the bishops. For it is a matter of necessity that every Church should agree with this Church, on account of its preeminent authority
”3. The blessed apostles, then, having founded and built up the Church, committed into the hands of Linus the office of the episcopate. Of this Linus, Paul makes mention in the Epistles to Timothy. To him succeeded Anacletus; and after him, in the third place from the apostles, Clement was allotted the bishopric. This man, as he had seen the blessed apostles, and had been conversant with them, might be said to have the preaching of the apostles still echoing [in his ears], and their traditions before his eyes. Nor was he alone [in this], for there were many still remaining who had received instructions from the apostles”.
None of the 12 Apostles was a bishop anywhere. Peter was no bishop of Rome. Linus was consecrated by Paul and Peter. He might have been one of the 70 Apostles.

These facts are agreed and considered certain. Linus was a bishop of Rome. He was either the first of second bishop of Rome. We cannot know for sure because the only sources are the church sources and some place Linus as the first, some Peter. You want to say more than is known. You can do so, but present it as your opinion or give very good arguments for a question that has been open for a long time. I briefly comment on this your theory. Jesus was crucified in either the year 30 AD or 33 AD. I found more support for 33 AD. While Jesus was alive, there were no bishops and no diocese. Thus, you cannot mean by 29 AC year 29 After Christ. You must mean by AC After Crucifixion. Thus, assuming that Crucifixion was 33 AD, we get to the year 62 AD. That is one of the two possible years when James the Just died (62 AD or 69 AD). James the Just was the bishop of Jerusalem before year 62 AD. He was the bishop and leader of Jewish Christian congregations and nominally also of Paul’s Gentile Christian congregations, though Paul did not pay much attention to James. I would not call this a diocese system. There is no accepted early source stating that Peter, or any of the apostles, ever visited Serbia. Your theory is obviously unfounded and false, no need to research it.

So. You are a Romanist and now suffering from a bruised ego. Get over it, girl. Once you summon up the courage to delve deeply into history as it likely was, rather than by stenographers toiling to please the victors; you too will have issues with the Vatican.

Never for once have I denigrated all people who found themselves under the broad umbrella of Rome. There have been some wonderful individuals who were able to maintain spiritual lives even under the sway of the hierarchy and the inbred Vatican bureaucracy.

Organized religion, with Romanism as the prime example within the “Christian” tradition; is nothing more than ossified or even petrified spirituality. Like materialism and its atheistic apologists; organized religion has long been part of the problem centering on a credo of greed, power and domination. Control by the elites is the leitmotif of organized religion.

The Jewish rebel, Jesus/Yeheshua, was first and foremost a spiritual teacher who reminded us that the answer is within…that being that Creator is in each and every one of us. Spiritual liberation begins with freedom of thought combined with the realization that All is One and that the whole is equal to, yet greater than the sum of its parts.

So please try to understand that vicarious redemption for one’s “sins” is not the answer. That devolutionary concept is in itself the original sin. As the great Catholic thinker, Teilhard de Chardin pointed out, we are spirits living a material lifetime.

There are not many responses on one of previous assertion that Vikings were Slavics. It is easy to establish because their haplogroup is different from Nordics and Germanics. Bellow is one excerpt and a link for the full article from Nature. We are all aware of history falsifications. One of the biggest falsifications is that Goths were Germanics. About them and their language we can read from Ovid’s Ex Ponto letters from his exile from Constanza. This falsification had very practical purpose. Do we know who was for e.g. Beowulf? Vandals were no Germanics either. All of them were a part of the official Royal title of Swedish, Danish kings until 1971.

In Latin: Dei Gratia Suecorum, Gothorum et Vandalorum Rex

Translated as “By the Grace of God, King of the Swedes, the Goths, and the Wends”[49] or “By the Grace of God, King of Sweden, of the Goths and Vandals”.[50]

The finding of the same haplogroup in the North Atlantic islands of Orkney (20% [15]), the Faroes (52% [16]) and Iceland (24% [17]), as well as in Greenland (9% [18]), with their well-evidenced histories of Viking settlement, led to the idea of hg R1a1 as a signature of recent male Scandinavian migration. This gains some support from the finding that the English regions of West Lancashire and the Wirral Peninsula (the north-western part of Cheshire [Fig. 1a]), settled by Vikings in 902 CE, show significantly elevated proportions of hg R1a1 when samples are ascertained using local medieval surnames to minimise the effect of recent immigration [19]. The idea of hg R1a1 as a ‘Viking marker’ has entered the popular imagination in books about genetic history [20, 21],….

  304. New information is always welcome. Previously, I had never accessed the identity of the Wends, a tribal nation which I’d assumed were ultimately Germanized Slavic folk. That the Wends became known as the Vandals was also a somewhat pleasant surprise.

Again, we must recognize that contemporary historiography emerged from the womb of 19th Century German academicism. Those scholars did not have access to the now developing genetic data and depth correlation of various historical markers.

So as Teutonic nationalists, largely reactive to the travails of their land during the Napoleonic wars; they made a number of assumptions about the nations around the Baltic—that they were mostly of either Germanic or Slavic stock and those learned professors were either unaware or neglective of the fact that even though the Teutons and Nordics are close cousins, genetically, that in all probability they had things bass-ackwards. My contention is that the Teutons stemmed from a broad Nordic rootstock rather than the other way around.

Until the imposition of the false desert religion by their co-opted kings; the Norwegian people in particular had not yet become deracinated tribal folk whose deeper traditions were spiritual rather than religious. Urbanization and industrialization has further devolved the peoples of the north, while ingestion of virtual hordes of undigestible immigrants has shattered a once proud and independent folk.

    “Propaganda”, or maybe “blood libel”.

It amazes me how so many people think The Northman has any kind of pro-white sentiment, or glorifies Scandinavian or European culture. It does show the Vikings as strong warriors, but only in service of portraying them as brutal and primitive. They’re not even shown as barbarous, but as pig-ignorant, superstitious savages. The “👌To Be White” crowd got played.

IMHO, we could use a whole lot more of the “spirit of the Inquisition” and a whole lot less of the “I’m Ok, You’re Ok” spirit of Liberal Democracy.

If I have nothing more to do with you, that is still too much.

You had to go and ruin my whole week, didn’t you?

That’s probably gonna keep me up at nights.

Let’s try to make this a brief as possible.

The vast majority of what your kind think you know about The Catholic Church in general, and in particular things like The Crusades, The Inquisition, Galileo, The Virgin Mary, The Bible, The Papacy ..etc…etc.. is in reality, a retarded stew of utter nonsense and Jew Hollyweird pop culture topped off with a heaping helping of malicious lies.

It’s as if Jack Chick screwed Emma Goldman and they produced a bastard child who then became a Professor of Humanities . You would be his star pupil at Jerkoff St University.

I believe that we have some new information in contradiction to the ‘mainstream’. I already mentioned Goths and one enormous industry built on the assertion that they were Germanics. I could provide some specific falsifications especially related to their ‘alleged’ Germanic language. Excellent observation of ‘Wiener-Berliner history school’ and their falsifications. Because of them, we officially, after 200 years of research, still do not know for e.g. who were Aryans (even we know their genetics, language, mythology, anthropology, toponyms).

So, it is very interesting to add a couple of words about Vandals, who were a Serbian tribe. They crossed the Gibraltar and established very advanced kingdom in today’s Tunisia (island Djerba or Serba). They had very advanced culture, music, arts, buildings but their name was associated with their sack of Rome. It is also interesting that Serbian Roman Emperor Justinian sent his general Belisarius (also one Serb) to fight Vandals, who destroyed their kingdom and finally included them in the Roman Empire.

It is very little known about Serbian kingdoms and principalities in today’s Germany and Baltic before the arrival of Germans. They were no ‘isolated unknown Slavic tribes’ as some mentioned here. The following excerpt can throw a glimpse on the hidden history of German-Serbian fighting in today’s Germany which was originally a Serbian land and where all places were established and named by Serbs (Berlin, Dresden, Leipzig, Brandenburg, etc).

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niklot

“The first thing that could be found at the entrance to the Serbian Museum (in Germany) was a display case with copies of all five orders of the “Order of the Serbian Crown”, when it was established in 1864 by Duke Friedrich-Franz of Mecklenburg (1823-1882), Serbian Obodrit prince of the 21st generation Niklot, Pribislav and Janko, who resided in the Obodrit capital Schwerin, in the former principality, and now the federal state of Mecklenburg. The lavish insignia with the motto “Per aspera ad astra” (“Through the thorns to the stars”) symbolizes the thousand-year destiny of this princely family, which had to accept Christianity and Germanic symbols (and still remain Obodritic in name), to survive in northern Germany. The descendants of Niclotus ruled for a full 750 years (1167-1918) as one of the oldest European dynasties.”

All homosexual behaviour between soldiers themselves, however, was strictly banned, and Polybius records that any solider, in full manhood, who was discovered in a homosexual relationship would be liable to execution by the fustuarium, in which a soldier was clubbed or stoned to death by his colleagues (Polyb. 6.37.1-9; cf. doc. 5.19).

The Roman attitude toward homosexuality was more far more ambivalent and less latitudinarian than that of the Greeks, including the Athenians, who were less militaristic than the Romans.

  310. “The Old Tale: When the Sun was God”, a Polish movie with Vikings, who, however, speak Norwegian (funny that the Polish production is more reliable here than Hollywood) and do not fight naked. I am only wondering whether their ritual (?) suicide after the lost battle/duel could in reality have anything to do with (sacrifice) to Odin….

“The Northmann” should take a clue from this movie, as it is so much more about the pagan religion than the Polish picture was!
My proposition: “The Northmann: Towards The Holy Volcano”. Incidentally, considering “The Lord of the Rings”, volcanoes are quite established now as places for showdowns. A Northern legacy, perhaps?

Not all vikings fight naked in the Northman, only specific Berserker shock troops, who were famous for fighting naked with only bears and wolves skins against the romans in Antiquity.

I find it strange, however, that in “Northman” berserkers are deployed in a low-level plunder slavers ambush, not a battle really. I would think that they were elite troops to be used in battles between jarls or kings, not roaming booty hunters.

In the Northman, the Viking stormed and enslaved an entire Slavic town with wooden walls, the berserkers were sent as vanguard since they are drugged up and fearless, after the gate is open, you can clearly see armored Viking pushing in. This is no wagon raid, but a small battle at least.

And while I haven’t found an actual Roman battle where berserkers were explicitly mentioned, there are depictions of wolf-head warriors in Roman ware: https://danarehn.com/2021/06/03/germanic-warrior-wolf-tribes-werewolves-shamanism-and-outlaws/

Not sure about the celt but the germans and slavs certainly share the same ancestor from a (or multiple) migrating tribes in Siberia/Centria Asia, hence their connection with wolves as holy animals.

I thought this was common knowledge? Even the migrating gods of Nordic mythologic are the Aesir (Asia), they fought with the Vanir (the previously migrated tribes) and then join force against the giants/jotunn (who were most likely Neanderthal).

Germans, Slavics (Serbs) and Nordics have different genetics. One half of Serbs are I2 and they are the closest genetic cousins with Nordics (I1). They originated in Europe (Lepenski Vir/Vincha) and can be considered as indigenous people. Nordics later moved to the north, while Germans are non-Europeans and came to Europe from Asia.

From indigenous Vincha people, i.e. from proto-Serbs. Where the similarities btw Hindu, Nordic and Celtic mythology came from? From Aryans, who came from Europe. Where the similarities btw. Sanskrit and European languages came from? Sanskrit is a local Indian version of ancient Serbian (proto-Slavic) language brought to India by Aryans and also influenced much younger European languages including Proto-Germanic. Who were Aryans? Proto-Slavics, i.e. proto-Serbs, no Germans, no Nordics.

Germans have Y-DNA Hg. about 1/3 R1b, 1/3 R1a and 1/3 I1. They share language and mythodology with Scandinavians, who also have the same Y-DNA haplogroups. (Sweden is mainly I1, but Norway has lots of R1b and both have some R1a). Vinca culture had Y-DNA Hgs G, F and M and seems to have no genetic connection with I2. I2 was the Y-DNA haplogroup of European paleolithic hunter-gatherers, while Vinca was neolithic (agriculture) and connects to Anatolia (Western Turkey), where most of the crops were developed. R1b came to Europe from Central Asia around 3000 BC (from Yamnya culture), R1a (Aryans) came to Europe around 2500-2000 BC. N1 came to Eastern Europe (around Smolensk) around 2000-1500 BC and to the Baltic Sea around 500BC-500AD. All these are European Y-DNA haplogroups. The oldest are F and I2 (hunter gatherers) and F and G2 (farmers) in Europe. The language of Vinca most probably was not Indo-European. The oldest Indo-European languages in Europe, like Hittite and proto-Baltic seem to have Y-DNA as R1b (Hittite) or R1a (battle axe culture). Serbs with I2 are the oldest in Europe, but they descend from hunter-gatherers and do not connect with the agricultural Vinca, which at one time was in the area of Serbia.

Most of the lies about history of nations in Europe was from Germans (as well as Vatican and Austrians too), who wanted to academically justify their conquest (i.e. land grab) in Europe as they missed the opportunity to capture colonies around the world. WWII was supposed to be the final act achieving that goal.

The first thing on their list was to eliminate any info about the indigenous people or Europe – the Serbs. I.e. Germans could not concoct a lie big enough to make themselves described as indigenous people of Europe, so they tried to make no one else either, with added Indo-German / Indo-European lies on top of that. So they invented the story of Serbs coming to the Balkans (i.e. Helm Peninsula) in the 7th century, and a whole slew of other lies including fake maps, etc. Their historical school actually recanted that 7th century “migration” story in the 1980s – admitting that they lied. However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg so to speak.

History to Germans is just a political tool and it remains one to this day. Majority of their “elites” are pathological liars that spent centuries adjusting history to fit their strategic and political goals with close to no remorse.

Just to name some: In 1808, German geographer replaced Peninsula’s name “Helm” (Serbian) with “Balkan” (Turkish) to hide Serbian origins and roots there. Another example: in 1881, Austro-Hungarian Empire actually threatened war if Serbs did not remove their own calendar from use and switched to the European one. The one that was in use through the entire history of the Serbian people – in which e.g. year 2022 is year 7530. E.g. Kosovo Battle was in the year 6897 (year 1389). All Serbian documents up to that point used this original and ancient calendar including Serbian Orthodox Church.

As mentioned, aside from Germans, Vatican and Austrians have been into faking history business too – big time – it started in pre-schism times and continued through centuries to this day.

JayJay, it seems you are slightly confused. In the first sentence you are talking about modern Germans. There are also black Germans who play soccer for German national team. Even Adolf said that many Germans have Slavic (i.e Serbian) origins (e.g., Prussians). You are not telling us when and where the ancestors of modern Germans came from, how they have similar mythology with Nordics. They could not have both, Asian R1b and European I1/I2 in same time. You are right, I2 was present in Europe since Palaeolithic (actually for 30000 of years). How it could not be present in Neolithic but later (when) somehow appeared again from somewhere? I2 genes, 10000 years old, were found in Lepenski Vir. It means that for e.g. ancestors of Novak Djokovic lived there. When Yamnaya (R1b) came to Europe they conducted genocides on indigenous people. On whom? On I2 (also on G people) people! It seems you are not an expert in languages and you just follow the official narrative which is illogical and obsolete. Otherwise, tell us about Sanskrit (and Rg Veda) – who brought this language and mythology, similar to Nordic!!! Where this similarity came from? As one Scandinavian, do you know where the BERG in many (sur)names and toponyms came from? So, as the word HOLM (e.g. Stockholm)? Also read the #326.

“JayJay, it seems you are slightly confused.”

I am not an expert on this topic, but neither are you. Your theory contradicts many findings.

“There are also black Germans who play soccer for German national team. Even Adolf said that many Germans have Slavic (i.e Serbian) origins (e.g., Prussians).”

Today Germany has large Turkish, Russian and other minorities, but in WWII times it was basically 1/3 R1b, 1/3 I1 and 1/3 R1a. R1a was of Slavic origin: Prussian and Polish, not Serbian. The origin of Slavic people is in Corded Ware, also called the Battle Axe Culture. They were R1a and the langiage was Indo-European, probably closest to Lithuanian/Latvian (which is close to Sanskrit, at least as close to Sanskrit than Serbian). The origin of Slavic people, as descendants of Corded Ware people, is usually placed either to Ukraine or to Poland. Not to Serbia.

The prevalent theory is that I1 developed form I in Denmark around 2000 BC. The competing theory is that I1 developed somewhere else and Scandinavians came around 2000 BC to Northern Europe together with other Indo-European migrations.

Germanic people may have originally been I1, but R1b people in the West and R1b in the East changed their language making the present day native German people. So, Germans are as European as other Indo-European peoples in Europe.

“How it (that is, I2) could not be present in Neolithic but later (when) somehow appeared again from somewhere?”

Farmers from Anatolia (G2a men) did not mix with hunter-gatherer men (I2), though they did mix with their women (mtDNA U5) to some extent and had their own women (mtDNA H). Hunter-gatherers did not originally adopt farming except from in the Baltic area (Latvians, Lithuanians, Estonians). In the Balkans farmers of the Vinca culture did not have Y-DNA I2 in the studied samples. In that area also lived hunter-gatherers (I2), so they were there all the time. What happened to G2a men? They can often be found from mountain areas in Europe indicating that they were pushed to mountains when Indo-Europeans came. But there is another explanation: early Anatolian farmers seem to have had highly patriarchaic society where a very small number of (probably high-ranking) men monopolized women. This is seem from Y-DNA diversity: it dropped to dangerously low levels. It probably caused infertility and the male lines died out. So, it need not be true that Indo-Europeans killed most G2a men. They could have inbreeded themselves out of existence. Later in the Balkan area I2 men did adopt farming. However, a link to Vinca is not supported by ancient DNA.

About R1b and R1a men committing a genocide on I2 people, this is not the main theory. The usual assumption is that hunter-gatherers were pushed to remote areas as R1b, R1a herders/farmers were more populous. There is one I2 sample from c. 1800 in Lappland, so finally I2 men were pushed away and died out in most of Europe. Though a genocide is also a possibility. (But hunter-gatherers cannot live in the same place with herders as there is not enough game for them, so being pushed out is more logical. Hunter-gatherers had very low population density, they could not fight against herders’farmers.) G2a people built the megaliths. They had rather high cultural level and population density, but no bronze weapons.

But as said, this topic is not one of my competences.

No, I am not a linguistist and understand only six modern languages well enough, including Swedish, so berg is a mountain and holm is island, very typical landmarks in Sweden. Vedic myths are Indo-Aryan and most similar to myths in Iran. As Indo-European they are also similar to Nordic myths. The people with these myths had Y-DNA R1a and they comprise of Aryans in Northern India, Iranians and Slavs. You find similarities to Indian myths also in Finnish mythodology (Y-DNA N1), e.g. sampo is shambas, a world pillar (i.e. a pillar fixed at the North Pole star). I did read #326. About it, all conquering nations have always falsified the history of suppressed peoples. As for the Serb calendar, it is simply the Byzantine calendar where the counting starts from Anno Mundi of Septuagint, 5509 BC. It is just Eastern Roman Christianity, not older than that.
