OpenAI Text Summary
In a striking display of political maneuvering, Donald Trump recently declined to endorse House Speaker Paul Ryan in his primary against populist challenger Paul Nehlen, stating, “I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country,” reflecting a sentiment echoed by Ryan when he hesitated to support Trump during the latter's rise to the Republican nomination. Trump's refusal to back Ryan, as well as his criticism of other Republican figures like John McCain and Senator Kelly Ayotte, signals a clear divide within the party. This situation highlights Trump's role as a disruptor within the Republican establishment, using his platform to challenge those he perceives as disloyal or insufficiently aligned with his vision for the party, particularly regarding immigration and national security.

The backdrop to Trump’s comments includes a fierce media controversy sparked by the remarks of Khizr Khan, a Muslim immigration lawyer whose son died serving in the military. After Khan's critical address at the Democratic National Convention, Trump’s responses were perceived as disrespectful, igniting outrage from mainstream media and various Republican leaders. Critics argue that Trump’s comments were a misstep, tarnishing his image and alienating segments of the electorate, especially veterans and military families. However, Trump's supporters see his defiance as a rejection of political correctness, viewing his commentary as an assertion of free speech in the face of what they consider unfounded media hysteria.

While Trump’s adversaries within the Republican Party condemned his statements, others, including Nehlen and McCain's challenger Kelli Ward, defended him by framing the media's reaction as politically motivated. Nehlen criticized Ryan for his reactive stance against Trump without fully engaging with the issues at hand, while Ward accused McCain of pandering to the establishment and suggested that the controversy surrounding Khan was a calculated distraction orchestrated by the Clinton campaign. This defensive posture illustrates a growing rift within the GOP, where populist sentiments challenge traditional party lines, reshaping the political landscape as Trump’s influence continues to resonate among his base.

As Trump continues to galvanize his supporters and challenge the establishment, the implications for the Republican Party are profound. The potential for successful primary challenges against established leaders like Ryan and McCain may signify a shift towards a more nationalist agenda within the GOP, one that prioritizes the views of its base over the expectations of mainstream media and traditional party elites. In doing so, Trump not only aims to consolidate his power but also seeks to redefine the moral framework of the party, urging voters to reject narratives dictated by opponents and the press. This dynamic sets the stage for a contentious election season, where the battle lines are drawn not just between Trump and his Democratic rivals, but increasingly within his own party.

Even his most stalwart critics have to admit Donald Trump is a masterful troll. So it was nothing short of glorious to see what he said about not backing Speaker of the House Paul Ryan in his Wisconsin primary against populist challenger Paul Nehlen.

“I like Paul, but these are horrible times for our country,” Trump said. “We need very strong leadership. We need very, very strong leadership. And I’m just not quite there yet. I’m not quite there yet.”

[Trump refuses to support Paul Ryan, John McCain in upcoming Republican primaries,by Philip Rucker, Washington Post, August 2, 2016]

Of course, this was an echo of Speaker Ryan’s saying he was “not ready to do that” and “not there right now” when he was asked to endorse Trump a fter The Donald secured the Republican nomination.

Revenge is a dish best served cold.

It wasn’t just Ryan. Trump also said he would not endorse John McCain. And he condemned New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte, a notorious ex-immigration patriot turncoat, for giving him “zero support.”

Trump’s strike against the RATs (Republicans Against Trump) is the latest reverberation of the apparently never-ending Main Stream Media-created controversy over immigration lawyer Khizr Khan, whose son was killed serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq.

After Khan attacked Trump at the Democratic National Convention, Trump offered condolences but also fired back, wondering aloud why Khan’s wife simply stood there awkwardly rather than saying anything. This set off an MSM frenzy about how Trump “attacked” the family of a dead American soldier. The implicit Narrative that there is some huge bloc of patriotic khizrMuslim-Americans is especially laughable given that more Americans have been killed by Muslims in American uniform than the small number of Muslim servicemen that have been killed in our Middle Eastern Wars.

Of course, Trump had nothing whatever to do with Captain Khan’s death. Indeed, as his former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski pointed out, if Donald Trump had been president, Khan would still be alive—because America would not have entered the Iraq War. For some reason, this accurate statement was also greeted with more MSM outrage. [Corey Lewandowski berates Muslim dad: ‘Capt Khan would still be alive’ if Trump was president, by David Edwards, Raw Story, August 1, 2016]

Needless to say, there was no similar reaction about Hillary Clinton implicitly calling the families of the victims of the Benghazi attacks liars by giving their families a false story of why their loved ones died. And, in contrast to Trump,Hillary’s incompetence as Secretary of State is arguably the direct reason why Americans died in Benghazi, both because of her disastrous policies which created the environment and because of her specific decisions (or lack thereof) that night.

In fact, the anger against Trump seems mostly motivated by fury he won’t bow his head in shame just because the Main Stream Media tells him to.

As Scott Greer noted acidly at The Daily Caller:

[I]t’s 100 percent certain the mainstream media is an unofficial arm of the Clinton campaign. After a whole week of trying to downplay the Wikileaks DNC scandal and cheering on every moment of the [DNC] convention, they created a top-down outrage story for the sole purpose of shaming Trump and his supporters.

[The Disingenuous Outrage Over Khan-Gate, July 31, 2016]

It’s not like elected Republican congresscritters had actually to do much in response to this phony controversy. VP nominee Mike Pence initially panicked, of course, issuing a statement about how Khan was a hero who must be “cherished,” seemingly an implicit criticism of Trump. However, he later calmly swatted away complaints against Trump when they were brought up at a campaign rally by a “military mom” who just so happened served on the Democratic state central committee in Nevada:

“I have never been around someone more devoted to the armed forces of this country, more devoted to the families of our soldiers, sailors, airmen, Marine and Coast Guard and no one more devoted to the veterans in this country,” Pence said.

[Air Force Mother Confronts Mike Pence Over Donald Trump’s ‘Disrespect’ – Gets Booed, by Vaughn Hillyard, NBC News, August 2, 2016]

In contrast, Ayotte, McCain and Ryan went out of their way to condemn Trump. Ayotte said she was “appalled” that Trump “disparaged” the family [Ayotte, Horn blast Trump’s blast of Khizir, Ghazala Khan, by John DiStaso, WMUR, August 1, 2016]. John McCain trotted out the old line that Trump did not “represent the GOP” and said Trump’s remarks “do not represent the views of our Republican Party, its officers or candidates” [McCain: Trump defamed Khan, does not represent GOP, by Tom LoBiacno, CNN, August 1, 2016].

And Paul Ryan, never missing a chance to preen, issued a statement:

Many Muslim Americans have served valiantly in our military, and made the ultimate sacrifice. Captain Khan was one such example. His sacrifice – and that of Khizr and Ghazala Khan – should always be honored. Period.

[House Speaker Ryan: Khan family sacrifice should be honored, by Mike Segar,Reuters, July 31, 2016].

As Congress is out of session, all these useless figures had to do is shut up. But they couldn’t do it. Interestingly, however, both Ryan’s primary challenger Paul Nehlen and John McCain’s primary challenger Dr. Kelli Ward stepped up to defy the MSM frenzy.

Nehlen said, entirely accurately: “The problem with Paul Ryan is his constant knee-jerk reactions to anything controversial Donald Trump might say without completely understanding the issue” [Trump thanks Paul Ryan’s primary challenger for ‘kind words,’ by Sean Sullivan, Washington Post, August 1, 2016]

And Kelli Ward said in part:

The Khan controversy is a cynical political stunt cooked up by the Clinton Establishment, and, sadly, John McCain has fallen right into it. McCain’s statement today makes clear that he really wants Hillary Clinton in the White House, and his tepid “support” for Trump is only disingenuous pandering”

[Dr. Kelli Ward Slams John McCain for comments about Khizr Khan, by Jen Lawrence,Breitbart, August 1, 2016].

Significantly, Dr. Ward, a military wife, also slammed Clinton for backing an “unnecessary war” which led to the death of Captain Khan.

If there’s one thing we have learned about Donald Trump, it’s that with him the personal really is political. So he thanked Nehlen publicly on Twitter. It seems likely his own outraged sense of honor is what is driving his non-endorsements.

ORDER IT NOW

Trump is a wrecking ball smashing through the Establishment and expanding the Overton Window. No one should have any illusions that he has a fully developed ideology or that he isn’t primarily driven by his own personal ambition. However, contrary to MSM smearing, Trump does a well-defined sense of the national interest when it comes to trade, a record which goes back to the 1980s , and on immigration. At CPAC in 2013, he talked about ending the de facto discrimination against immigrant from Europe. This got him denounced by TalkingPointsMemo [Trump: Let In More (White) Immigrants, March 15, 2013,] and the head of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who called it “racist rhetoric.” He clearly identifies with the American nation-state, which he says he wants to “conserve”—something which cannot be said of a Conservatism Inc. apparatchik like Paul Ryan.

Not for the first time, what Trump has done is dramatically raise the stakes. If Ryan, McCain or both can be successfully primaried, it would show the transformation of the GOP into a nationalist party will last beyond Trump. What’s more, it will show GOP voters are not willing to outsource their sense of morality to Leftist reporters who despise them.

The fact that President Obama picked this day to call on Republican to disown Trump makes the choice clear – Republican voters are either siding with Trump or with Obama and his RAT friends like McCain and Ryan [Republican leaders should withdraw endorsement of Trump, Obama says, by Gregory Korte, USA Today,August 2, 2016].

It’s startling how irrelevant Hillary Clinton already is to this election. It’s really between Donald Trump and the Lying Press. Trump says he’s going to “punch through” the dishonest media.

But in order to defeat the MSM, he first has to defeat the traitors in his own party, who obey the orders of his most stalwart enemies.

Luckily, today, Donald Trump took steps to do just that.

Old Joe Kennedy, the late father of the late president, was also the father of a fallen Navy aviator– literally blown up over the English Channel by the very explosives that his plane was carrying on his secret mission– which was almost universally known by reasonably well-informed Americans, as I was growing up, in the 1960s. Yet, I never have heard anyone defend him, alive or dead, because of the sacrifice that he and his family made to our war effort. Instead, he is practically demonized, by all sides, for supposedly being a money-grubbing robber baron, a philanderer, an isolationist, a Nazi sympathizer, a fascist, etc. Funny how times, mores and “eternal principles” change, over one man’s modest lifetime….

  3. The people of the United States, most of them completely undeserving, are the beneficiaries of Trump’s patriotism. I will always recall with great satisfaction the utter defeat and humiliation of the platoon of scum bags who opposed him in the primaries. And the abject failure of the vast army of liars (MSM) deployed against him. Trump’s candidacy is the first indication I have seen that a critical mass of the people themselves have emerged from the matrix.

I don’t kid myself that the Donald will be president. The Oligarchy will not appoint an overseer (Chief Executive) that they do not own no matter how many people vote for him. But the credibility of and respect for our ruling class in Imperial Washington is and will remain in the toilet. The hapless Bernie supporters raised a chorus of boos every time Hillary Clinton’s name was mentioned at the Democratic convention. Battle lines have finally been drawn. We (Trump supporters) now know who our friends are and who are our enemies. No longer will Washington rule unopposed.

  5. Trump will not shrivel up and scurry away as the other candidates before him have done once they got behind. In crucial states like FL, OH, PA, and MI, Trump is either ahead in the polls or dead even. Should he win three of those four states and carry the same ones Romney won, he will be elected. The polls are reflecting the overwhelming Democrat strength in CA, OR, WA, and MN. Trump has no chance in those states. But remove those states from the polls and you have a different race. Trump is going to win. Count on it.

Don’t give up hope yet. Get involved! In my view from afar, I agree with Epiminondas.

For every alleged rhetorical screw-up by Trump, there seems to be a rejoinder, as with the brave Capt. Khan: for the fourteen Muslim US soldiers killed in action (less than 0.003% of the total), more US military people have been killed, and many more plotted against and injured, by Muslims in US uniform.

The latest piece of black propaganda I saw was a claim by some cretin on your nation’s TV, that an unnamed ‘expert’ had been asked three times by Trump, if we have nukes, why can’t we use them?

Not a believable claim at all.

Trump should try to appropriate and own the idea of the ‘left’.

He should say people used to talk of ‘right’ vs ‘left’.

Right was pro-business and was nationalist.

Left was pro-labor and was internationalist.

    But that dichotomy is gone.

Today, there is only nationalism and globalism.

And both parties are for globalism. Trump should say he’s running against both party elites.

Democrats are for globalism, big corporations, oligarchs, replacing American workers with cheaper immigrant workers who function as scabs.
And Republican party bosses agree with Obama and Hillary on the globalist agenda that undermines American workers.

He should talk about the divide between posh parts of big cities and rest of America.

He should try to own the idea of workers rights.

Trump should say he represents the best of right. Patriotism and entrepreneurship. And best of left. Workers interests and anti-war policy around the world. Hillary has the backing of big banks, the propaganda media, and the war machine. She is wall street and war machine candidate. The result is countless dead already in Middle East. Trillions wasted. Hysteria and paranoia about Russia and needless new cold war. Trump should say he grew up in cold war under threat of war, even nuclear war. He should say Reagan did wonderful thing in bringing peace with Russia. But now, the achievement has been lost by globalist hawks in search for new enemy to further the war industry. He should say Lib elites don’t send their kids to military and die. It is mostly middle class and working class small town people.

But globalism is about oligarchs, the elites. It is about weakening American Labor by flooding it with foreign competition. It is about waging new wars and creating conflict.

All four of them are known Israeli trolls with slightly different baggage of immigrants and Muslims.

Since his appearance at the DNC, Khizr Khan has been become a ‘Muslim hero’ for the Organized Jewry. He has been portrayed as a model for American Muslims by anti-Muslim, pro-Israel propaganda news organs like ADL, AJC, CNN, Fox News, NYT, WP, WSJ, etc.

Pakistan-born Khizr Khan is father of UAE-born Capt. Humayun Khan, who was killed while fighting against his fellow Iraqi Muslims in 2004,

The Jewish press praise has nothing to do with Khan family’s services to their adopted country, but because like Muhammad Ali, Khizr Khan challenged GOP nominee Donald Trump‘s anti-Muslim, anti-Islam statements which are no different than what the Jewish Lobby had been doing for decades.

Khizr Khan has now become the Organized Jewry’s tool to demonize Trump in order to get Israel’s favorite Hillary Clinton get elected as the next US president and continue Israel’s proxy war against Syria and Iran. Furthermore, westernized ‘moderate Muslim’ like attorney Khizr Khan help the Organized Jewry to pin all Israeli false flags on Muslims.

On August 2, Israel’s top lobbyist, Jonathan Greenblatt, head of ADL, posted an article at Jewish Medium, entitled, What Khizr Khan Teaches Us About America.

In the article while praising Khan family as a model American Muslim family, he claimed that Khans immigrated to America not for their religion but for the American values. Now, any idiot who believe US vice-president Joe Biden, the father-in-law of two Zionist Jews, said in 2013 that American values are Jewish values.

“Khan’s story is classically American: an immigrant wanting to bring his family to this country, not, in his words, because of religion, but because of its values,” Greenblatt said.

Interestingly, Khizr Khan exposed pro-Israel American Jews, many of whom carry the US-Israel dual citizen (below). He said that Muslim immigrants are only loyal to their adopted country and not to the country of birth…

The best argument the Nationalists have against the Globalists is that Globalism is anti-democratic.

All democracy is local. It is based on territory. I have more in common and more common interests with my neighbor on my own block, and in my own municipality, country, state, province, and country, than I do with most residents of Dhaka, or Hanoi.

Globalism denies my right and that of my neighbors the privilege of deciding what’s best for us.

If Chinese speculators with hot money want to buy up the waterfr0nt where I live, the globalists say “Go ahead.”

If Muslim immigrants want to engage in polygamy, and set up mosques and Sharia courts here in the Western World where I live, “Go to it,” the Globalists say.

If millions of Syrians and Africans refugees from Globalist wars invade Europe against the wishes of the vast majority of the population, Globalists in power, Merkel, Hollande, Obama, etc., etc., says “Welcome. Bring in more.”

If West Indian immigrants in London aggressively assert that “Black Lives Matter,” the Globalists say, “Right on, it’s time whitey had his come-uppance.”

Only morons vote for the denial of their democratic rights. That Hillary Clinton is even in contention for the US Presidency tells us that many Americans are brainwashed dupes or utter morons.

It was business that stood behind open borders and benefited from the labor of immigrants who are really the scabs in the war against organized labor. Look at the history of slavery. Africans were scabs because Native Americans did not want to work in the offered conditions. Who came up with this idea? Look at the history of Hawaii. Who brought there Portuguese, Puerto-Ricans, Japanese, Chinese? Who created the multi-ethnic Hawaii? Leftists? No, the right wing business. The leftist who support immigration are really the useful idiots that benefits business only.

The Power that owns the Left is truly awesome power.

Most of opposition politics have come from the Left.

Leftists are naturally restless, confrontational, agitated, and abrasive. They like to bitch, thrown tantrums, and be defiant. Even in a perfect world, the leftist mindset would find something to complain about. The problem is more internal than external. The leftist mindset loves to fuss about how something is wrong and how others must be blamed. Consider Betty Friedan. She had a nice middle class life, but she compared it to the Holocaust. Leftists blame the world, but the real agitation is within their hearts. It’s like what Mao said in Stone’s movie: “The real war is in us. History is a symptom of our disease.”

    Video Link

Rightists can be violent and disruptive, but it’s not in their nature. When things seem normal and stable, most rightists just stay home and tend the garden. They don’t enjoy marching in streets, tossing molotov cocktails, holding up signs, and dreaming of utopia. They may dream of personal kingdom of God, but they accept the world as it is UNLESS things are really bad. Then, even the rightists take to the streets, as happened in interwar Europe, current Europe(due to massive migration), and in the US(where support for Trump shows there is growing anxiety among conservatives).

Because rightists tend to be calmer and allergic to agitation and trouble-making, the power need not fear them too much. A rightist is like Norman Fell in THE GRADUATE who tells Benjamin Braddock that he won’t have any agitation.
The Power fears the Left because it is agitated, hysterical, excited, angry, bitter, violent, aggressive, righteous, utopian, deranged. (The Power also fears blacks because they is just crazy and riot and loot for the hell of it.) The Power, when it was Waspy, used to fear restless and relentless Jews. But now the Power is held by Jews.
When Wasps held the Power, the leftist Jewish opposition was feverish and driven.
Today, when Jews hold the Power, it is the Power that is most feverish and driven.

The Power doesn’t have to worry too much about the Right. Right tends to be either timid, reserved, restrained, orderly, stoic, and too normal for much trouble-making.
Even when Rightists are pissed, they usually stay home and gripe alone.

But the Left is much more likely to hit the streets. Also, the left is much more likely to be engaged with arts, media, and academia and shape public opinion and inspire young to make trouble. The Right tends to be philistine and anti-intellectual.

So, the Power has much to fear from the Left.
It would be a great boon to the Power to win over the Left and have it on its side. If the Left feels that its side is in power, it is less likely to go nuts. And the Power had less to worry about since the Left now supports the Power.

Of course, this causes a problem. The Power is never about equality. The PTB–powers that be–are always gonna be richer, more privilege, and more powerful than the rest. Leftism is anti-hierarchy, so it isn’t easy to square the Left with the Power, especially capitalist power that leads to the creation of oligarchy and super-wealth(and imperialist expansion).

The classic left bitches about the 1% vs the 99%.
The Power tries to make the 1% even richer and more powerful.
The 1% has much to fear from the Left.

After WWII, the 1% didn’t have to fear the Left too much. Anti-communism made Americans suspicious of radicalism and Soviet Union and Red China.
Also, the post-war boom led to rise of vast middle class. It wasn’t a time of 1% vs 99% but a time when the vast middle had it pretty good. There was more wealth distribution throughout the economy. US labor was strong. US was leader in manufacturing, and even highschool graduates could have decent jobs and raise a family in a world where family values still mattered.

But US entered into the globalist era. With massive outsourcing of working class jobs and massive insourcing of immigrants in service and high-tech jobs, many Americans are feeling the squeeze in the middle and below.
The 1% is richer than ever. It is also more Jewish than ever.
Jewish leftists loved to attack the Wasp Power. But Jewish progs today don’t want to be too hard on the Power since it’s held by their tribal brethren who, btw, shower them with money and favors.

But, given the increasing rift between the rich and everyone else, there should be more reason than ever for the Left to speak, indeed shout, truth to the Power.

But the ‘left’ is now more supportive of power than ever before. Why? There was some leftist fury during the Bush era, especially with the Iraq War that turned into quagmire.
But during the Clinton and Obama era, there was mostly silence.
Clinton forged a new alliance between 1% free trade globalism and the Left. Via Clintonism, those who were on the Left could find promising careers funded by the rich, especially in NGO’s. Also, it was the boomer Libs who became the richest people in the 80s and 90s.
Also, in a nation that worships Diversity and Holocaust, the fact that there are so many rich Jews made it rather taboo to be overly critical of the rich. After all, it might be ‘antisemitic’. Also, celebrity culture features so many rich black rappers, homo fashion designers, liberal Hollywood stars, the likes of Oprah, and etc. Their fans love the fact that their ‘heroes’ and idols are so rich. So, rich was made ‘cool’. Much of ‘leftism’ today is swooning over the fact that Jay-Z and Taylor Swift are worth gazillions. I mean who complains if their sports hero signs a $100 million contract? Who bitched about Tiger Woods raking in millions with all those endorsements? And who said anything about Clinton making $100 million from speeches?

Also, the Prog-globalists changed leftism increasingly from economic to cultural, demographic, and lifestyle issues. It had less and less to do with class and economics. It had more to do with celebrating homomania. The celebration of rich homos doesn’t hurt the rich at all, especially when so many homos cater to the vain rich. It is celebration of the fact that Tim Cook wants a dick up his bunghole.

It had more to do with style. So, celebrating black athletes and rappers became part of ‘leftism’. Slut culture and porny behavior became ‘leftist’.
With so many young people distracted with hedonism and self-indulgence as their main political agenda, they were never going to pose a threat to the Power. No wonder Hillary invited Lena Dunham to give a speech at DNC. What rich person of The Power would fear such a creature whose idea of ‘progress’ is getting tattoos, hooking up, and acting like a materialistic pig?

And of course massive immigration. Immigrants can be a tax burden on the rich. But they also provide cheap labor. And serve as buffer between the urban gentry and criminal blacks. Also, as many immigrants happen to be Mexican or Asian, they tend to be docile with Asiatic genes. Mexicans are mostly happy to pick lettuce and say ‘Si, senor’ and yellow folks are mostly dogs and drones who serve their new master. Even as most yellows are now proggy, they merely follow the ‘leftism’ as devised and dictated by the Power. If the Power says ‘leftism’ is about homo-rainbows, that is what yelloids go with. They have zero originality and zero intellectual agency.

So, with the Power in control of the ‘left'(as lifestyle and vanity), there is no challenge to their status and privilege. Hillary, the darling of Wall Street and War Machine, is seen as the ‘leftist’ candidate. (Merkel is supposed to be ‘conservative’ but shmoozes with Hillary and her ilk. Go figure.)
There was some challenge from Bernie Sanders voters, but Sanders gave up real socialism long ago. He is a phony who appeals to upper-middle-class kids who want free college tuitions. His supporters are trust-fund kids, not working class folks and their kids.
As for the challenge from Trump supporters, maybe it will lead to something in the long run. But the Right isn’t good at the culture of dissent, opposition, trouble-making, and etc. The Right is, by nature, used to favoring order, harmony, conformity, and unity. They don’t thrive in the role of opposition and rebellion.

But things may get so bad that the Right may become the new kind of left.
Indeed, the trick of fascism was it was a rightist movement that took the style and energy from the leftist model.

The best argument against globalization and for nationalism is that multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society lack cohesion and solidarity…

That’s a good argument, certainly. Having a bunch of Muslims move into the neighborhood does nothing for social life centered around the pub and may pose a serious threat to your daughter’s virtue.

A long essay here offers good evidence for the socially destructive effects of multiculturalism.

The leftist who support immigration are really the useful idiots that benefits business only.

To judge by the careers of Hillary and Blair, the leftist leadership consists not of idiots but paid members of the treason class. Their followers, it’s true, don’t understand what they are voting for, which is not surprising considering the amount of brainwashing they receive under the guise of education, and the solidly pro-treason party propaganda from the media oligopoly. But the net result of the drive for globalization is the effective disenfranchisement of those that globalization hurts most.

First, I don’t think there is any doubt that McCain was a “phony” war hero. That is clear from comparing his interview published in U.S. News & World Report on May 14, 1973, about a month or so after being released by the North Vietnamese, with his Silver Star citation. He admitted in the interview that he offered to give his captors military information if they would take him to the hospital so his wounds could be treated, on the fourth day of his captivity in late October 1967, and that was a clear violation of the Military Code and hardly the basis for awarding a Silver Star. (He was shot down on October 26, 1973.) He was taken to a hospital and his wounds treated over the next 6 or so weeks, by his own account. Here are two relevant paragraphs from that interview:

“I think it was on the fourth day that two guards came in, instead of one. One of them pulled back the blanket to show the other guard my injury. I looked at my knee. It was about the size, shape and color of a football. I remembered that when I was a flying instructor a fellow had ejected from his plane and broken his thigh. He had gone into shock, the blood had pooled in his leg, and he died, which came as quite a surprise to us—a man dying of a broken leg. Then I realized that a very similar thing was happening to me.

When I saw it, I said to the guard, “O.K., get the officer.” An officer came in after a few minutes. It was the man that we came to know very well as “The Bug.” He was a psychotic torturer, one of the worst fiends that we had to deal with. I said, “O.K., I’ll give you military information if you will take me to the hospital.” He left and came back with a doctor, a guy that we called “Zorba,” who was completely incompetent. He squatted down, took my pulse. He did not speak English, but shook his head and jabbered to “The Bug.” I asked, “Are you going to take me to the hospital?” “The Bug” replied, “It’s too late.” I said, “If you take me to the hospital, I’ll get well.” ” http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2008/01/28/john-mccain-prisoner-of-war-a-first-person-account

Compare that personal account in U.S. News with what the Silver Star citation said about his actions justifying the award of the medal (according to an account in USA Today):

“McCain was awarded a Silver Star Medal for resisting “extreme mental and physical cruelties” inflicted upon him by his captors from late October to early December 1967, the early months of his captivity, according to the citation. The North Vietnamese, according to the Navy, ignored international agreements and tortured McCain “in an attempt to obtain military information and false confessions for propaganda purposes.” ” http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/news/politics/2008-05-07-2662742753_x.htm (For the actual citation, see https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Silver_Star_Medal_-_John_McCain.)

That period directly overlaps the period that McCain contended he was being treated for his wounds in a North Vietnamese hospital, and he made no mention in his May 1973 interview of being tortured while he was in the hospital. In that interview, he does mention he was tortured after about a year in captivity when he admitted he was in solitary confinement. The regulations governing the award of a Silver Star require “two witnesses” to attest to the action justifying the award of the medal. How could there be another American witness when he was, by his own admission, in solitary confinement?

The next issue is when do you knock McCain out of the Senate. Since there are only 55 Republican Senators, Trump does not a big margin to play with should be elected President. If McCain’s challenger knocks him off in the primary, that challenger could go on to win in November. But that scenario has two drawbacks: the challenger does not beat McCain in the primary or he loses to the Democrat in November. The net result would be the loss of one Senate seat. The better result would be to have McCain win reelection, and then President Trump could have the Defense Department release all of McCain’s records pertaining to the Silver Star. If those records prove too embarrassing and McCain resigns, the Republican governor can replace him with another Republican. Since any Republican would be better than McCain, that would be a better result since there would not be a loss of a Senate seat.

Also, if Detroit were all-Jewish, all-Chinese, all-Swedish-American, all-Irish-American, or etc., I highly doubt it would be in the situation it is in now even if Wall Street had the same kind of grip on the city.

Look at Chicago. They say it is a corrupt city. This corruptions applies to all neighborhoods in the city. But some groups do so much better than others.

The Detroit saga is a clear case where the governor suspended the democratic body managing Detroit and placed a “crisis manager” in place, who happened to also be a partner in the law firm who represented the bond holders of Detroit’s municipal bonds in court where it was decided that the bond holders would be made whole at the expense of Detroit’s assets and public pension fund. When is it the case that bond holders, who invest at risk, capture their reward from selling off the city’s collective commons. This pillaging, where bond holders are paid off by a bankruptcy court is unprecedented and was condemned as unimaginable by classical economists like Adam Smith, JS Mill, and Marx. “Capital markets have no need of men making money in their sleep.”—John Stuart Mill.
