Earlier (2003) The New York Times Says Japan Needs Immigrants. The Japanese Politely Disagree

Most people visit or move to Japan because the country and its people fascinate them, and they don’t judge them for being, well, Japanese. Not so with Julian Ryall a free-lancer, correspondent for The [UK]Telegraph and the South China Morning Post, Ryall thinks Japan is too Japanese. It has not adopted his enlightened views on race and immigration. While most of his work parrots Establishment bromides about the economy and the China conflict, he also writes something of a regular Two Minute Hate about the Japanese. They are, he clams, incorrigible racists. You’d think a man who has earned his daily rice bowl in the country for a quarter century would be a little more grateful. But alas, gratitude has never been a strong suit of the Leftist media.

Let’s leave aside Ryall’s departure from diverse, high-crime London for the monochrome low-crime Yokohama just outside Tokyo, and what that says about his anti-racist bona fides. Let’s focus instead on his openly anti-Japanese journalism. Typically, Ryall doesn’t himself claim the Japanese are racists; he lets his interview subjects and headline writers do it for him.

This is typical: Why is racism so big in Japan? [SCMP, December 9, 2017]. The main source is an American expatriate named “Debito Arudou, a human-rights activist who was born David Schofill in California and became a naturalized Japanese citizen in 2000.”

Arudou was quite exercised that “most Japanese do not want to believe [racism] exists in their society because they have been told there is only one race in Japan.”

The Japanese are right to believe that. But Ryall and his American interlocutor expect Japan to adopt open borders and permit a mass influx of refugees:

And when the domestic media plays up violent incidents involving immigrants in France, Germany and Britain, it comes as no surprise that Japanese resist the idea of permitting foreigners to settle permanently in Japan, even when they are refugees seeking sanctuary from violence in their homelands.

“It is well known that Japan accepts a minuscule number of refugees each year and yes, the media here and the public at large look at the problems that have occurred in Europe and say those problems could never happen here because there are no immigrants,” Arudou says.

“They say this is a mono-culture where everyone understands each other. And while that is nationalist claptrap that completely ignores any crimes committed by Japanese, it is how they think. It’s the narrative they tell themselves to reassure each other. But it’s not an honest narrative.”

Get that? The Japanese are full of “nationalist claptrap,” as opposed to Ryall and “Arudou,” who are full of anti-racist claptrap.

Another of Ryall’s hit pieces complained that Japan is “still racist” despite accepting foreign workers [Japan: now open to foreign workers, but still just as racist?, SCMP, May 11, 2019]. For that one, Ryall found a French expatriate to unload on the country that took him in:

“What can you do?” said Fior, 47. “Japan is such a polite country on the surface and everyone smiles and bows, but there are a lot of times when you get the sense that not far below the surface is the wish that us foreigners were just not here.”

The Japanese probably do wish that. And no one can blame them.

Well, almost no one. Ryall and his angry sources can blame them, and so he continued in 2020 with a piece that examined how silly the Japanese were to dislike an advertisement from Nike that accused Japan—you won’t believe it—of racism and bullying.

“The video depicts the experiences of three teenagers, including a biracial Japanese girl, who experience discrimination and bullying,” Ryall wrote:

While some people welcomed the message, others slammed the US company for passing judgment on Japan’s social and cultural values

A Nike video advertisement about bullying and racism has triggered a fierce backlash in Japan, including some calls to boycott the sporting goods giant.

[In Japan, Nike Ad On Racism, Bullying Sparks Debate Over Foreign Firm Criticizing [sic] Social Mores, SCMP, December 2, 2020]

Being a GoodWhite journalist, Ryall found a black victim of Japanese racism, and a black American college student only too happy to instruct the Japanese on right thinking:

One scene shows a girl, who has a Black father and Japanese mother, having her hair pulled by students. Also featured are an ethnically Korean girl, and a Japanese teenager who is the target of bullies while also receiving academic pressure from her parents.

The ad culminates with the teenagers on the same team combining to score a goal and the message, “You can’t stop sport,” with the last word overlaid in red so it reads instead, “You can’t stop us.” …

Tiffany Rachel, 22, an African-American university student who has lived most of her life in Japan, said the Nike video could play a role in encouraging young people to begin talking about race…

“But in Japan, they do not want celebrities to do that … So Japan is not having that debate,” she said.

Is Rachel on Ryall’s speed dial? How did he find her? Why must the Japanese listen to a random black American’s complaints about her hard life in Japan? If Japan is so bad, why did she stay most of her life?

She isn’t even a hafuu, half-Japanese, half alien, like the girl in the advertisement. She’s “African-American.” She should be content to live in a safe and orderly Japan. She might otherwise have been living in Chicago or Baltimore, and become a victim of her fellow blacks due to the Floyd Effect.

However, there is hope for Japan, and as VDARE.com’s John Derbyshire once said, it lies in the comment threads. Ryall reported:

While there were many comments supportive of the campaign, some people in Japan were critical of a foreign company passing judgment on the country’s social values.

“I’m tired of companies and celebrities thinking they have some kind of moral platform,” one person wrote on the SoraNews 24 website. “Nike, like many clothing companies, uses forced labor in China and other parts of the world. Maybe they should do a commercial about that.

A user on Twitter said foreigners who did not like Japanese culture and values “should not live in Japan. … I would like you to go elsewhere.”

But Ryall didn’t take that advice. Instead, he continues his long-running campaign to make Japan less Japanese.

His latest attack on the country that graciously permits him to live and work there involves its supposed mistreatment of Koreans: Why Is Anti-Korean Racism In Japan On The Rise Again? SCMP, January 23, 2022.

“An upswing in hate crimes has seen homes burned and death threats made towards ethnic Korean communities—whether allied to North or South—in Japan,” was the subhead on this broadside:

Nearly 20 years ago, after Pyongyang admitted that its agents had abducted Japanese nationals, someone smeared on the walls of Chung Hyon-suk’s Tokyo home: “North Koreans live here. Be careful.”

The sense of danger she felt that day has returned.

“Japan’s relationship with the two Koreas has always been complicated due to Tokyo’s colonial rule of the peninsula, but things changed for North Korean residents of Japan after they confirmed the abductions,” she said.

“Politicians and the Japanese media kept up a constant attack on everything about Korea and for the next decade it was difficult to live here,” said Chung, who was born in Japan and has lived in the country all her life. Her grandparents were originally from North Korea and she is a member of Chongryun, the association of North Korean residents of Japan.

“Our house was damaged and I was very worried about my two sons, who were at primary school at the time, so I went to the police,” she said.

Chongryun isn’t just “the association of North Korean resident of Japan.” It’s a Fifth Column. Ryall either doesn’t know or doesn’t care.

Nor does Ryall care that Koreans maintain a separate, subversive identity in Japan:

The Korean community reported numerous incidents, such as girls attending Korean high schools having their distinctive Korean-style uniforms slashed by assailants and receiving countless online threats. [Emphasis added].

At those special schools, Koreans learn not in Japanese and about Japan, but in Korean and about Korea. I’ve written about them at my own website [The Japan That Can Say Abe Shinzō, October 5, 2019].

Ryall’s claim of Japanese “racism” against Koreans is somewhat curious. The two peoples are the same East Asian phenotype. Japan’s first settlers came from the Korean peninsula. While modern Koreans differ from the Japanese because of their deeper epicanthic fold, the difference is often imperceptible. Yet Ryall deploys all the buzzwords of the modern anti-racist. Maybe Ryall should visit South Korea to see racism in action [In Korea, double standards on racism, by Da-Sol Goh, Asia Times, March 24, 2020]. (Not that the two Koreas are any more obligated to import blacks or Muslims than Japan is).

Ryall is not just against “racism.” He’s pro-black, pro-Korean, and pro-immigration. But why? Why such a focus on “racism” and attacking Japan?

Answer: His paymaster is in Hangzhou, China. SCMP is owned by the Alibaba Group, a Chinese tech company. The newspaper is the “leading edge of China’s efforts to project soft power abroad,” as The New York Times described it:

Every day, The Post churns out dozens of articles about China, many of which seek to present a more positive view of the country. As it does, critics say it is moving away from independent journalism and pioneering a new form of propaganda.

[A Hong Kong Newspaper on a Mission to Promote China’s Soft Power, by Javier C. Hernández, March 3,1 2018]

So Ryall is a Chinese propagandist. That doesn’t mean he’d write anything differently if he were a real journalist, of course. He undoubtedly believes what he’s writing.

If I were Japanese, I’d deport him and the rest of the foreigners who malign my country because its people want to preserve their race and way of life.

Recall the slogan of the Japan First movement’s 19th-century predecessors, who mobilized after the country opened its doors to Western trade:

Sonnō jōi—Revere The Emperor, Expel The Barbarians!

Interestingly, if you say something positive about China, you’re a propagandist…

In any case, the Alibaba Group is no “Chinese propagandist”, they’re capitalist propagandist.

Chongryun isn’t just “the association of North Korean resident of Japan.”

Why do the Japanese allow these traitors in their country? Why not expel them to North Korea so that they can live in their “worker’s paradiso”?
I think the U.S. occupation has done some strange changes in the country. Just after the defeat of WW2, the American foreign occupation forces were burning up loads of documents of the Japanese Government, a type of de-nazification if you will, to obscure the real reasons why Japan was really fighting. So that the Allied neo-Marxist, neo-globalist version of WW2 “history” could be pushed on the world.

  3. Ryall’s claim of Japanese “racism” against Koreans is somewhat curious.

Anyone who has lived in Japan knows that Japanese “racism” against Koreans has been 24x7x365 for 80 years.

Ditto Japanese “racism” against Ainu, and Japanese “racism” against Burakumin.

The Japs are ultra-racist. They would literally prefer to become extinct than allow foreigners to settle there.

That’s their choice and we should respect it.

“Why Does Japan Put Up with Expatriate Hack Julian Ryall, Who Campaigns to Destroy It with Mass Immigration?”

Dolt. Because secretly the rich in Japan want this. They want to flood the country with foreign third-world refugees, because it will drive wages and living standards down for the many, and rents and profits up for the few.

This sort of pressure will only increase over time. Most likely, the Japanese are doomed.

  5. Altai says:

I would hope that people would get used to more diverse bodies. There needs to be more bodies in this country! Umm, beyond race and gender, I mean like sizes! That is something that really needs to change. So I’m hoping in the future that becomes a different scenario.

African-American woman moves to Japan, gripes that she feels self-conscious because the Japanese are too skinny, hopes in future they will be as unhealthy as Americans so she won’t. Or perhaps they can just import more obese people. I don’t know, I just know that immigrant narcissism has reached epic levels.

We live in an era where people’s personal boundaries and where ethnic boundaries are now things people in the West are supposed to be more attuned to. That is unless we talk about the boundaries of the indigenous people living in nice countries. The boundary violation of immigration is one to be taken on the chin to no limit. Immigrants who don’t see this expose themselves as being the least desirable people to want anyway. R selected.

    “Needs to change”. For whom?

  6. Japan has a very sensible, restrictionist immigration policy, one which European and North American states should have followed themselves. That policy won’t change, as the Japanese people and Japanese Government want it to continue. Multi-culti hacks like Ryall have no influence whatsoever, so they can safely be ignored.

This may change in the future. The impending economic collapse of the US will almost certainly result in the removal of the US military from Japan, or its drastic reduction. Japan will have to expand its own military spending and defence forces. This may make them less tolerant of foreign hacks like Ryall pushing an anti-Japan or pro-China agenda, inconsequential though these hacks are. I suspect many will be found guilty of visa violations and expelled.

EXPEL the BARBARIAN! —Why Does Japan Put Up with Expatriate Hack Julian Ryall, Who Campaigns to Destroy It with Mass Immigration?

That’s an easy one. It is because the Japanese are a defeated people under US military occupation, and the US very much discourages that sort of thing. Mr Ryall may have also have some unseen protective hand politically protecting him, as he is after all promoting the US/UK’s progressive gospel of Multi-culturalism, the philosophic rationalization for the wage slave, which ipso fact necessitates mass immigration.

And who, or what, is the ‘wage slave’.

The wage* slave, also long known by the term of propaganda as ‘cheap labor’, or, simply, as the innocuous sounding ‘immigrant’, is a primary source of both wealth and political power for those elites and their hangers on promoting the global so called ‘progressive’ Multi-Cultural society.

Whether ‘the immigrant’ be ‘skilled’, or, far more likely, ‘unskilled’, makes no matter. For whatever period of time (ie days, weeks, months, years) this person is paid significantly below** what was, or, what would have been, the prevailing real time local rates for the labor, without the immigration taking place, or, the ‘immigrant’ being present, the immigrant is the slave.

True, this individual can quit at any time. No matter, for within this system the amoral employer of such will simply hire another one of the newly arriving ‘immigrant’ hordes at far below the prevailing real time local rates for the labor, it not being called mass immigration for nothing.

As wage slaves they thus perform the exact same role and function that the corresponding skilled and unskilled chattel slaves had in the Anglospheric chattel slave holding society this present day system directly evolved from, albeit doing so far more profitably and efficiently, and with far more potential political use as well.

It is therefore a major misnomer to say chattel slavery and its trade was ‘abolished’, indeed, it is A Big Lie. It is much more truthful and accurate to say that with the early 19th century introduction of wage slavery, ie the cheap labor/mass immigration system, the economic and political basis of today’s progressive multicultural society, that the antiquated, inefficient, and ever less profitable chattel slave system, was monetized, ie that it had been distilled down to it’s financial essence, whilst profits were maximized.

It is also historically a very profitable divide and conquer, divide and rule strategy, which historically slavery corrupted amoral elites and hangers on so inclined can either use against one’s own, and, or, against the ‘other’, as succinctly described on pg 4 of a 2003 academic paper which I’ve excerpted and linked below:

‘..the immigrants usually serve three main functions: cheap labor to replace native groups; settlement on the ‘frontier’ (periphery); and control over the natives and their land. These dynamics generally result in the maintenance of hegemony..’

    * Wage slavery, as the systematic theft of the value of the individual’s labor, the financial essence of slavery, is most efficiently, profitably, and easily accomplished being taken directly from their pay, their ‘wages’, as opposed to via owning this person as cumbersome physical property, ie as ‘chattel’, and hence the historic term chattel slavery.

** Significantly below, as in the case of destitute Chinese being imported by diktat into California in 1876 and found to be often being paid only about a third of the prevailing real time local rates for the labor.

  16. The first time I was ever in Japan some decades ago, I was in Osaka (I think it was) on their subway system.

A Japanese man walked up to me on a platform and said something like “What do you think of our trains? Clean, modern, efficient, come on time, eh?

    I agreed this was true.

“And do you know why?” he asked

    He then enlightened me.

    “No blacks or Mexicans.”

  17. @Jmaie

In the old South Africa, Japanese were classed as “honorary whites” which meant they could (as far as I know) stay in “whites-only” hotels. go to the same restaurants as whites etc.

This was presumably because of their economic power in those days,

I remember reading long ago (1980s) that a Japanese man in South Africa had married a local white woman. This had resulted in some legal problems, perhaps over what places he could go etc. or maybe even whether the marriage was legally possible.

It was resolved that “honorary white” gave access to public places like whites, but did not extend to marriage and the like.

The Japanese were greatly annoyed by this verdict, not because “apartheid, dat be wacist” but because they were not being included among the racial top dogs!

  18. The original inhabitants of Japan, going back to the neolithic or before are the Ainu who are mostly totally assimilated or live in the back country. The Jomon culture produced a lot of fascinating art, inluding megalithic buildings (unless that was aliens or something). So most of the people we think of as Japanese are descended from Korea. Korea and Japan had a rivalry like France and Germany. Or Germany and Poland. Korea could have won those wars and colonized Japan. Such are the vicissitudes of war. Some types of nationalists pick up on these old rivalries and stirs the embers because it keeps thins as they are. Which, for japan, work tolerably well.
Modern race assimilist ideologues look at Japan’s aging population and say Japan should import a quarter billion black africans or impoverished bengladeshis so that they can continue to have ‘growth’.

The notion that populations can be bred like herds of cattle to somehow destroy ethnicity as such and thus bring about a neo-liberal utopia is the real topic here. That is the ideology Mr Ryall is pushing.

Race assimilists should try pushing their ‘product’ in Isreal. I suspect they would get a rougher treatment and with good reason.

  22. Why does Japan cuck to this pile of shit? Because it’s been the whore of US since WWII.

Whites in US allowed themselves to be owned and replaced by Jews.

Replacism is what US is about. As whites in US obey Jews, Japan as whore of US must follow along.

But then, Jews not only make demands but colonize minds via academia, entertainment, and commercials. Thus, Japanese and other Eastern Asians, who are a bunch of yellow dogs, are being led to welcome the great replacement as some kind of virtue.

Most Japanese aren’t Christian but many celebrate Christmas by ordering KFC. Japanese celebrate a holiday that isn’t even theirs because it was promoted by American pop culture and TV commercials. That’s how insipid these people are.

Japanese don’t deserve to be free and should be ruled by a patriotic military caste.

  23. @Auld Alliance

Bullshit. Japan recognised South Africa before WWI. Japanese and members of the Japanese Empire ( Koreans, Taiwanese ) had the same status as Whites, otherwise there would have been no mutual recognition.
In South Africa, there were Japanese and part-Japanese at White schools before, during and after WWII. Marriage between the two was permitted. Since Black Rule, most have emigrated, usually back to Japan.

South Africa became a Dominion in the British Commonwealth in 1910. Like Canada, Australia and New Zealand, it had full powers of autonomy. I was slightly wrong about Japanese recognition of South Africa. It happened during WWI.

Japan opened a consulate in Cape Town in 1918.[4]

Japan began actively trading with South Africa for natural resources since the 1960s, despite international sanctions in response to South Africa’s apartheid. As a result, Japanese in South Africa were granted the honorary white status, much to the complaint of South African opposition party politicians and the press which questioned why the Japanese were granted special privileges.[5]

The designation gave Japanese almost all of the same rights and privileges as whites (except for the right to vote; they were also exempt from conscription).

I hope I have clarified the situation.

It’s amazing what massive American aid can do for a country. You permit one-sided “free trade” and “most favoured nation” agreements so that China can build up massive trade surpluses. Then you let your own oligarchs shut down American factories and transfer them to China. And we’re not even taking technology transfer and downright theft into account.

A s****y little country in the Middle East has also benefitted massively from American aid. US taxpayers give its Government \$3 bn a year, directly. Its trade surplus with America is \$9 bn a year, caused by much the same one-sided agreements as exist for China. Members of its tribe in America also send vast sums of money to support it each year. It steals US technology with impunity and often exports it to America’s adversaries. It gets America to fight its wars for it, while it remains idle.

The obverse side is the decline and decay of American power. The reverse is the massive aid that America has given to Israel and China. The first is very largely the result of the second. In modern history, the stupidity of America’s Ruling Class is unparalleled.

LOL I was brainwashed about great Africa from Western channels. Africa did not have to raise 80% of its population out of poverty to be praised non stop. LOL

Low-end manufacturing have moved out of the US long before the US-China trade deals. The Most Favoured Trade Nation agreement was just to level the ground for competition among countries exporting to the US. Did it make much a difference to Americans that their shirts and socks were made in Thailand or China?

It steals US technology with impunity and often exports it to America’s adversaries.

Mehool Bhai here. Verymuchalive Bhai check this video

    Putin, Tesla and My Life
This good Chinese man, Mr Wu in Europe shows true face of CCP. He is overseas Chinese who worked in China for an European company. He says that when CCP is nice to you, they want to get something from you. He says, CCP had a strategy, years ago they realized that it would be too expensive to develop everything technology like West and Japan, so they decided to steal technology from these countries. That was grand strategy to allow foreign companies in China, greedy for Chinese market. So they are allowed Tesla in China to steal Tesla technology, so they used excuse of accident of Tesla car and all CCP controlled media in China screaming about Tesla. Now since they CCP people have stolen Tesla technology, they now do not need Tesla, not want to share Chinese market with Tesla. Tesla Musk is now coming to India and talking with great Modiji. We never steal technology like Communist Chinese.

He himself had similar experience. Wu sir is of Chinese origin but worked for an European company in China. He says if you are doing business with any Chinese company, you do the business with CCP. All companies are controlled by CCP. Wu sir was from Hong Kong but at 18 years, he went to Sweden. He was involved in a Swedish Automation company and hunted by a German company then hunted back by his Swedish company. He was involved with automation of power system. He was in China in 1979 for automation of energy distribution in whole Hubei province of China. His company was the first to do automation of electric systems in China. He was again involved with Chinese market, he could speak Chinese, of Chinese origin, so he was sent to handle China market. When you are dealing with huge infrastructure projects in China, you are mostly dealing with the State. So he got a lot of insight about the Chinese political system and how the Chinese Communist bosses behave. He realized how deceptive the Chinese Communist regime is. The CCP was only interested in stealing of foreign technology, that is why they allowed all those foreign companies in when they showed them the China market as bait, from 80s onwards.

He also says that President Putin does not trust the CCP, 100%, only partially. President Putin KGB guy knows that the CCP betrayed USSR in 70s and let USA spy on USSR secretly at China-USSR border. India never do this, India always loyal to USSR. Putin knows that CCP will never think twice about betraying anyone in the World. Also the CCP funds the Russian Communists who are political enemies of President Putin’s United Russia party. President Putin knows this.
Also Elmer Sir had said in different video, that Putin is connected to Jiang Zemin faction against Xi just like Biden is.

If you don’t like the trade policy, get another president. The US is a democracy…

If the US was ever a democracy, it certainly isn’t now. The Deep State stymied Trump’s policies of economic nationalism and rapprochement with Russia. It then replaced him with Biden – who does as bidden – by massive electoral fraud. America is a Banana Republic, not a democracy

Low-end manufacturing have moved out of the US long before the US-China trade deals. The Most Favoured Trade Nation agreement was just to level the ground for competition among countries exporting to the US. Did it make much a difference to Americans that their shirts and socks were made in Thailand or China?

Before the end of the Cold War, a very small amount of manufacturing had left America for 3rd World countries. But GATT essentially regulated this matter and it nearly all related to competition between 1st World countries. Factory closedowns in America mainly involved German and Japanese import penetration of the car and consumer electronics markets. This was quite common in the 1970s and 1980s.

The Most Favoured Nation Agreement does not level the ground for competition. It gives the signers precedence over all other nations, and can be a smokescreen for trade as aid, as in the cases of Israel and China.

You cite the trite example of shirts and socks. Paul Craig Roberts, an experienced economist, estimated that half of the US deficit in goods was the result of offshoring, the other half was unilateral free trade.
WASHINGTON D.C.: The Commerce Department said the U.S. trade deficit increased to a record high \$859.1 billion last year, compared to \$676.7 billion in 2020, up 27 percent.
The trade deficit is unsustainable and collapse is imminent.

As for “technology transfer and downright theft”, as I understand it, technologies are private properties. Whether transfer or steal, it’s the owner’s business, not yours. If transfer, they get paid, if theft, they can sue.

Chinese technology theft is well known and widespread.
    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/06/china-technology-theft-fbi-biggest-threat

You say that you can get paid for transferrring technology, and you can sue for theft. Is this applicable in China? I don’t think so.

The ruling class have made the US the richest and sole superpower in the world, I’d hesitate to call them stupid… It’s another matter the masses aren’t satisfied with their share of the wealth.

Certainly, the traditional US Ruling Class helped make America the leading power by the end of WWII. But history is riddled with examples where Ruling Classes have wrecked their countries by their misjudgement, incompetence, stupidity and greed. The present American Ruling Class is undoing its predecessors’ achievements in double quick time.

I’m afraid you’ve misunderstood the term.

“The term means the country which is the recipient of this treatment must nominally receive equal trade advantages as the “most favoured nation” by the country granting such treatment. In effect, a country that has been accorded MFN status may not be treated less advantageously than any other country with MFN status by the promising country.”

MFN was replaced by Permanent Normal Trade Relations in 2000. And from 2001 on, US-China trade has been within the WTO. So, China’s MFN exports to the US was mostly textiles, footwears, toys, plastic, the sort. Whatever jobs the US has lost, they weren’t because of MFN.

You say that you can get paid for transferrring technology, and you can sue for theft. Is this applicable in China? I don’t think so.

The rich are quite capable of protecting their assets, don’t you worry about them.

The present American Ruling Class is undoing its predecessors’ achievements in double quick time.

But they’re the owners of the US, so as long as they are getting wealthier, it’s a great achievement.

  37. Whatever jobs the US has lost, they weren’t because of MFN.

I didn’t claim that. I did indicate that it might act as a smokescreen for aid disguised as trade, as it has been done for Israel and others. I did however reference Dr Roberts, a very experienced economist, who indicated that America’s trade deficit in goods, going back many years, is due to unilateral free trade ( half ) and offshoring by American companies and individuals ( half ).

The rich are quite capable of protecting their assets, don’t you worry about them.

I never worry about the rich. I do worry about American workers and responsible American employers who remain in the United States. The workers have lost their jobs. The companies are facing unfair competition from factories in China as a result. Finally the technology is plundered. When this process is complete, the companies will be nationalised, or , more likely, sold to Chinese interests at a low price. In such case, the American offshorers will not have protected their assets very well.

Designs, techniques and specialist knowledge are vital for Advanced Manufacturing ( AM ), the basis of German and Japanese economic success. Knowledge of them is often restricted to a small number of technical specialists. It is a much greater barrier to foreign competitors than the bits of software used by American tech firms.
If this specialist knowledge is filched, it undermines whatever competitive edge that the remaining American companies in a given sector have and reinforces their problems.

    I wrote.

    You wrote.

This is literally untrue. They do not own America. The ruling, governing or political class – however you want to put it – do the bidding of the Corporatists and the Zionist political donors, often one and the same. They supply the political class with money, directly or indirectly. The result is unilateral free trade, offshoring and wars for Israel – all of which have been disastrous for American power.

The American political class may be getting wealthier, but it is wealth derived from corruption. It is no “great achievement.” Worse than that it, it is payment for implementing policies that are destroying American power, its economy and society. Not for the first time has the greed of its ruling class wrecked a country.

I’m surprised that a very experienced economist hasn’t noticed that the US has received the most foreign direct investments in the world. In fact, the inflow investments are larger than the outflow. With this much incoming money than outgoing in the US, why are you still complaining offshoring? And why are you bitching about China while the majority of US outgoing investments have gone to Britain, Canada, EU, Australia?

Your problem is not free trade or outsourcing, your problem is there’re other businesses in the US more attractive than manufacturing.

  39. I’m surprised that a very experienced economist hasn’t noticed that the US has received the most foreign direct investments in the world. In fact, the inflow investments are larger than the outflow.

Yes, he has, but he doesn’t think them important for the reasons I will outline.
Firstly, American Federal Government Debt is now over \$ 30 trillion ( over 100% of GDP ).
    https://www.pgpf.org/national-debt-clock

With this much incoming money than outgoing in the US, why are you still complaining offshoring?

Investment inflows and outflows are insignificant. Not only with regard to National Debt, outlined above, but also the US Trade Deficit. Since 2000, alone, the cumulative Trade Deficit is well in excess of \$ 10 trillion. This is not adjusted for inflation. In 2021, as I mentioned, it reached a record \$ 859.1 bn.

And why are you bitching about China while the majority of US outgoing investments have gone to Britain, Canada, EU, Australia?

I’m not bitching about anybody, it is you who who used the word. Of that \$859.1 bn trade deficit, about \$300 bn was with China. Similar proportions pertain for previous years. So China is the leading beneficiary of the present US trade policy.

You seem to have difficulty understanding economics. So I will spell it out to you. Unilateral free trade and offshoring has resulted in the loss of many millions of US manufacturing jobs. Many of these were highly skilled and well paid. Many end up long term unemployed. This shrinks the tax base, and more money is spent on welfare, which is then borrowed by the Government.

A great power needs a strong and self supporting manufacturing base, otherwise it will not be a great power for long. America is reaching this point. Its manufacturing base has been so devastated by globalism that it can no longer manufacture even basic items like michrochips for its military. They now are imported. The time may come shortly when the US declares a war, and some foreign supplier of arms will say no. Then America will be a great power no longer.

The shrinking tax base, the massive increase in welfare – to which we may add the costs of massive 3rd World immigration and the never ending wars to make the Middle East safe for Israel – mean the Government must borrow ever more money. On the face of it, bankers should be lending to America at high interest rates: US treasury Bonds should have a high yield. However, the USD is still the World’s Reserve Currency. All manner of commodities are still bought and sold in the USD, and states and individuals have to buy it as a result.

So the US can continue to print or create money well in excess of what would be required for the US itself. This ennables it to stabilise the USD at rates far above what it should realistically be and also permits borrowing at low interest rates. This won’t continue much longer. Any number of events can preciptate a collapse in the dollar. When this happens, it will have a massive knock on effect on inflation and the National Debt. Instead of 100% of GDP, National Debt will be 200% or much more.
At which point, economic collapse beckons.

Interesting article, Generalissimo. I found your views on Japan very informative. But I don’t think that there will be some future Chinese-Jewish alliance. Firstly, I think the Chinese would think it infra dig. Second, and much more important, they wouldn’t need it. Economic collapse for America is imminent, and with it political and social collapse. Once they lose their protector, then its all over for Jewish power.

But you are right, Japan will have to remilitarise and get nuclear bombs – lots of them. America will be a rapidly receding power all over the world, and an expansionary power like China will attempt to fill the vacuum. Once America goes, Japan will have no 2 options: defend itself or obeisance to China. That goes for other East Asian countries too.

You don’t mention the principal target for Chinese expansion- Russia. At the moment, there is rapprochement between Russia and China, the result of American and Western sanctions against both. Once America goes, the old tensions between the powers will resurface. The Chinese still resent the Treaties of Aigun ( 1858 ) and Peking ( 1860 ) by which Russia obtained the Russian Far East. There were border incursions by the Chinese in the Amur as recently as the 1970s when Mao was still in power.
The current rapprochement will be over soon.

I understand as much as I need to. A lot of countries which want manufacturing aren’t doing it as much as they’d like to.

It’s not me you need to convince of how beneficial manufacturing is to a nation, but the money… My point is offshoring does not cause a capital shortage problem, there’s more money investing in the US than anywhere else in the world. Most of it just don’t want to do manufacturing.

Whether you want is “no-trade” or “no free-trade”, either are pretty stupid for a 64k per capita high GDP economy not trading with low income economy. Akin to a movie star spend all his time growing his food, sewing his clothes, making his furnitures instead of making movies.

That’s why capital will not to do that. Perhaps the system would collapse, but until it does, capital has its own logic to operate.

Japan is not a “vacuum”… It’s an island off the vast land mass of Asia. Its worst nightmare would be being isolated, that’s why they have tried 3 times in history to step onto the continent.

Thanks for the reply. Many columnists on UR never reply to commenters, so your due diligence is mucho appreciado.

I suppose you’re referring to this.

Ethnic Chinese in Russia officially numbered 39,483 according to the 2002 census.[6] However, this figure is contested, with the Overseas Community Affairs Council of Taiwan claiming 998,000 in 2004 and 2005, and Russian demographers generally accepting estimates in the 200,000–400,000 range as of 2004.[2][3] Temporary migration and shuttle trade conducted by Chinese merchants are most prevalent in Russia’s Far Eastern Federal District, but most go back and forth across the border without settling down in Russia; the Chinese community in Moscow has a higher proportion of long-term residents. Their number in Russia has been shrinking since 2013.[7][8]

Wikipedia is not the most unbiassed source, but the Russian Government seems to be on top of the situation. The total numbers now seem to be 400,000 to 500,000, and falling. Many are not in the Far East Federal District. Some are in Moscow and the rest spread elsewhere. The number of illegals is very few, it seems, and these are swiftly deported when caught.
This is what a real Government does about immigration. Contrast this with American actions re Mexico.

Much more worrying was a story I saw a year or two back – I think in Free West Media. There were plans to settle Chinese farming families on derelict or marginal farming land in the Russian Far East. This would be under a licence scheme. The Families would farm for a period of time, and then supposedly go back to China: similar to what the Chinese are doing in Africa. The produce would then be exported to China.

This had the alarm bells ringing. I hope it’s not been acted upon. If it has, only a few cases, I hope. Its potential as a future Trojan Horse for China is obvious.

I understand as much as I need to.

    Which is not very much.

My point is offshoring does not cause a capital shortage problem, there’s more money investing in the US than anywhere else in the world. Most of it just don’t want to do manufacturing.

As I mentioned previously, America’s position as the World’s Reserve Currency permits it to print or create much more money than if it were not. So there is no capital shortage. That will change when the USD ceases to be the World’s Reserve Currency later this decade. There will be no capital shortage then, but the effects will massively inflationary.

You keep on prattling on about Foreign Direct Investment in the United States, as if somehow it is important. Here are the facts from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis.
    https://www.bea.gov/data/intl-trade-investment/direct-investment-country-and-industry

At the end of 2020, total FDI in the US was \$ 4.63 trillion. Total US Direct Investment abroad was \$6.15 trillion. So there has been a net outflow of \$1.52 trillion. There has been no bonanza of inward investment in America, quite the contrary.

30 years ago, the US Trade Deficit was quite small and explicable by one item – oil imports. Since then, globalism has resulted in Cumulative Trade Deficits well in excess of \$10 trillion. At 2022 prices that would be about \$20 trillion.

US Federal Debt is now over \$30 trillion. I’m not saying all this is directly the cause of globalisation. The wars to keep the Middle East safe for Israel – the J Factor – are reliably put at \$ 8 trillion.
    https://www.brown.edu/news/2021-09-01/costsofwar
In a sensibly run America, Government Debt would perhaps be near that of Russia – about 20% of GDP. That would be about \$ 6 trillion. That leaves about \$ 16 trillion as a direct consequence of globalisation.
So that means that Globalisation in One Country has cost close to \$ 40 trillion. This doesn’t include potential loss of earnings, revenues and taxes from following such policies. These are unquantifiable, as are the social costs.

    Perhaps the system would collapse

If demography is destiny, then so is economics. The system is collapsing as we speak from the reasons I have outlined.

Brilliant analysis Senor Federale. However there is one wild card, and that is India. The Chinese may be rivals to Jewish power and both may work together to divide the World. I suspect the Chinese admire Jews but are also weary of them, many in the Chinese leadership are Jew-wise. Israel may be helping China and they both have deep economic ties but if there is a clash in between India and China, global jewish power will come on India’s side. 1000%. There are old ancient links in between Brahmins and Jews. Both Brahmins and Jews have peculiar similarities, both consider themselves a chosen people of God, both are experts in propaganda and cooking up fake history, in controlling and being top dogs over other populations via mental manipulation. Interestingly the brahmins share some traits with the Chinese as well. Both are extremely arrogant and consider themselves civilized but outsiders are seen as barbarians. Both are intellectual. But there are like 50 million Brahmins and hundreds of millions of Chinese. Brahmins have support of other mercantile castes and will have domination over an army of hundreds of millions of lower castes. Some lower caste movements are fighting back but for now Hindutva and Brahmanism seem to be forging ahead. India is going Hindutva and basically moving towards Brahmin domination. So India will be something like Brazil compared to China while comparatively China would be to India something like Japan or Germany. So it would be Indians led by its Brahminical Hindutva elites allied with the Judeo elites of the West vs China led by its CCP elites. Global Jewish power will come on India’s (Brahmin’s) side in such a clash.

Next we have the Islamic world who are overall going to support China against a Judeo “Crusader”-West. They are also going to support China against an increasingly Hindutva India even though for now India has strong relations in the Islamic World, for the moment. Jews may even use Hindutva India aginst the Islamic World from the East while they have Israel from the West, a vice grip. Muslims are already talking about Yehud and Majuj anti-Islamic alliance, alliance in between jews and idol worshippers Hindus just like what Mohammed faced, jews and pagan Arabs against him.
Also Russia may become a kind of haven for the White race, whites from the rest of the World who want to escape the coming Orwellian Communist Globalist mix-race, mix-gender Judeo power. There is Judeo power in Russia as well but Russia is more conservative and nationalist.

There’s a country in a similar position as Japan, that’s Britain. Only Japan is in a more difficult situation than Britain – no natural resources, no strong finance, no influence in lots of former colonies. Unlike the fragmentized Europe, China is Europe in one country, so Japan couldn’t even play Britain’s game of getting European nations to fight among themselves.

As an island off the continental Europe, what worries Britain more? Not militarily strong enough or getting isolated by Europe?

As an over-populated island without resources, Japan is the one who has a need to expand, as have already proven by their past invasions. The more Japan build up their military, the more China would be driven to isolate it. This is the reality, unlike your imaginary “vacuum”.

The comparison with Britain is interesting, Britain was a maritime nation that traded internationally, not just with Continental Europe. Before joining the EEC, as was, it had a trade surplus with the EEC. When it left, it had a large trade deficit. This was the result of two things: the Common Agricultural Policy ( costlier imported food ) and the EU free trade zone. The latter has become a captive market for German manufacturers. In the case of Britain, serious harm has been done to its manufacturing base, as a result. Both were major factors in voters voting to leave the EU.

Japan is a maritime nation that trades internationally. Historically, it had little to do with the mainland of Asia. There was the ill-conceived attempt to conquer Korea in the 1590s, then the Imperial Period 1890-1945. That’s it. I think it would be unwise for Japan to agree to an economic association with China or other Asian nations. A peaceful modus vivendi with them is most desireable, but it needs to keep them at arm’s length. The lesson of Britain is there for all to see.
