Most Western analysts were popping champagne corks today proclaiming Israel’s “massive” victory over Iran’s 14 April combined drone, cruise missile and ballistic missile attack on targets in Israel. I don’t know if they are really this blind to what happened or are willing participants in a psychological operation to persuade Israel that it had a victory and does not need to escalate. Regardless, let’s deal with the facts.
Iran told the United States and several neighboring countries exactly what it was going to do. We know this thanks to an article in the Financial Times published on April 12 — 36 hours before Iran launched.
Iran has signalled to allies and western nations that it will retaliate against a suspected Israeli air strike on its Damascus consulate in a “calibrated” manner to keep an all-out regional conflict at bay, according to officials briefed on the talks.
Tehran is unlikely to target Israeli diplomatic facilities in the region, said an official briefed on talks between Iran and Oman, the Gulf state that has often facilitated back-channel diplomacy between Tehran and Washington.
US intelligence on any impending attack appears to be detailed and specific, according to the officials briefed on the situation, giving Israel a window to prepare its defences. . . .
Even a direct attack in Israeli territory would probably be “calibrated” in a manner that would show a robust response, without triggering an Israeli retaliation that would lead to Iranian assets in Lebanon and Syria being decimated, the western official said, while warning that a miscalculation is possible.
Iran’s goal was to demonstrate it could hit Israel if it wanted to, but was providing advance warning to give the Israelis time to protect personnel in order to minimize casualties. Iran was not trying to cause mass casualties.
Reuters provided confirmation today of the Financial Times reporting:
Turkish, Jordanian and Iraqi officials said on Sunday that Iran gave wide notice days before its drone and missile attack on Israel, but U.S. officials said Tehran did not warn Washington and that it was aiming to cause significant damage. . . .
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Sunday that Iran gave neighbouring countries and Israel’s ally the United States 72 hours’ notice it would launch the strikes.
Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said it had spoken to both Washington and Tehran before the attack, adding it had conveyed messages as an intermediary to be sure reactions were proportionate.
“Iran said the reaction would be a response to Israel’s attack on its embassy in Damascus and that it would not go beyond this. We were aware of the possibilities. The developments were not a surprise,” said a Turkish diplomatic source.
Not surprisingly, Biden officials are vehemently denying they had advanced warning according to the Reuters report:
“That is absolutely not true,” the official said. “They did not give a notification, nor did they give any sense of … ‘these will be the targets, so evacuate them.’”
Tehran sent the United States a message only after the strikes began and the intent was to be “highly destructive” said the official, adding that Iran’s claim of a widespread warning may be an attempt to compensate for the lack of any major damage from the attack.
“We received a message from the Iranians as this was ongoing, through the Swiss. This was basically suggesting that they were finished after this, but it was still an ongoing attack. So that was (their) message to us,” the U.S. official said.
Statements from U.S. officials can no longer be accepted as accurate given their established history of lying. This is a “cover-my-ass” denial. Can you imagine the political outrage that would ensue if the Biden team copped to the fact that they had forewarning from Iran? Do you think that the Turkish and Jordanian officials did not communicate to Washington what they had been told? Of course not.
Iran’s attack in the early morning hours of Sunday was symbolic retaliation. The mullahs and IRGC commanders put Israel on notice that any further attacks on Iran, especially Iranian territory, will be answered by Iranian attacks on Israel. Iran demonstrated a remarkably sophisticated attack using three different weapon systems — drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles. They did not use their most advanced, sophisticated weaponry.
The drones were used in the same way that pawns are employed in a chess match — draw out the opponent and create vulnerabilities. Israel used up over 700 Iron Dome missiles in countering Iran’s 300 plus drones. Why? You normally fire two Iron Dome missiles per target to ensure a hit. Ditto for the cruise missiles.
What we know for a fact is that most of the ballistic missiles hit their targets in Israel. Here is a video of one of the strikes. Iran demonstrated a remarkably sophisticated capabilitiy — i.e., a maneuverable warhead. Notice that the inbound Iranian missile evades the Israeli interceptor and strikes the target. Wow!!

For all those trying to spin yesterday’s events as an Israeli victory, chew on that fact: The best missile defense system in the world could not protect the sites they were tasked with protecting from attacks by Iranian missiles.

I agree with Scott. While Israel and its Western allies proved adept at shooting down slow moving drones, they failed when it came to defeating ballistic missiles armed with a conventional explosive warhead.
We are now in the wait-and-see mode. There are contradictory signals out of Israel. Some insist Israel’s retaliation is imminent. Others suggest there will be no retaliation. I believe Israel is under the control of some genuine crazies and will try to hit an Iranian oil facility or military installation in Iran. When they do that Iran will make good on its promise and will launch a much larger, more devastating attack on Israeli military and intelligence targets. This is a fight Israel cannot win. If it chooses to pursue this course of action it will lead to the unraveling of its military effort to defeat Hamas and rescue any hostages still alive.

Some accounts say that Iran threw its best weapons at Israel and Israel shot down 99%, whereas other say that Israel’s defences failed to shoot down Iran’s most advanced missiles. I don’t know what to believe, but I do fully believe it when I hear that the defence of Israel cost at least 1 billion dollars, and I also believe that the price will be borne by you and me. Some important points: 1: Just as Iran’s attack was the largest attack of its kind in history – the defense system against it involving Israel – NATO and Jordan was also the largest and densest modern defense system in history in a small/limited area – 2: Iran gave ample time for the US and Israel to prepare their defenses. 3: Iran didn’t use its advanced missiles, except for those that were probably stored for many years that were gathering dust. 4: The attacks were carried out only in one phase, while if the second, third, fourth, etc. phases continued, the percentage of missiles hitting the targets would have been significantly higher until it reaches 100% in the final stages. Basically, in the last stages, none of the coordinated defenses of Israel, NATO and Jordan would have been able to fight back. 5: The attacks were generally carried out only by Iran, while if Lebanon-Syria-Iraq-Yemen attacked at the same time, the result would be much more terrible.
Well, that’s 600+ defender missiles that Ukraine won’t get so, yep , Iran helped Russia out too. The first few reports I heard first it was a 7 year old girl but then it became a ten year old boy. Other news sources only referenced a child without mentioning the age or gender but almost all mentioned the child was Bedouin.

The video in the article is just an excerpt. From the videos I have seen, I have counted at least seven hits by Iranian missiles. Given the total number of missiles Iran has launched, the interception rate is way below 99% and remains below even if we add the 300 slow-motion drones. Whose total cost is about equivalent the total cost of just flying the planes to intercept them. As for the cost to the US taxpayer, well, the Jewish-owned FED can just keep printing fiat money.

In other words, Iran and Hezbollah could inflict a lot of damage to Israel, but they will be threatened with nukes if they do, and therefore will likely desist because the damage inflicted on Iran will be much greater as long as it lacks the nuclear deterrent.
Therefore, I think Iran has no choice but make a dash for nukes ASAP, even if it means getting slapped with UN sanctions. And they better do it real soon before it is too late.

The missile warhead is on a straight trajectory. The appearance of it turning up and then down again to go in the same general direction but somewhat displaced upwards is entirely due to the movement of the camera. In the slo-mo part at the end, use the Settings to select the slowest playback speed. At the time the warhead seems to veer upwards, with respect to the frame of the camera, the camera moves down and rotates a little, so the foreground buildings and horizon move up, in the frame of the camera, at the same time.
Warheads traveling at these speeds, ca. Mach 5 or more, are surrounded by a plasma of ionised air due to the extreme compression as they force their way through the atmosphere. I recall reading that this probably prevents them from receiving GPS signals, so any guidance the warhead has would need to be based on an inertial guidance system, which is very difficult to make with the required accuracy given the extreme rocket acceleration and re-entry deceleration forces.
With such a plasma shield, how would the warhead’s radar (if it has one, which seems unlikely) detect an interceptor? Steering would be either by fins or short sideways rocket bursts. However, only one or two of the Iranian ballistic missiles pictured at: https://simplicius76.substack.com/p/iran-breaches-anglo-zionist-defenses has fins, and these would be too small to steer it radically enough to perform the manouvre which some people think they see here.
Also, all of these warheads have conical nosecones. To have radar there would need to be a wider, round, electromagnetically transparent, and therefore made of plastic or perhaps ceramic, radome on the front. That would not survive the intense re-entry forces. Even if it did, a ceramic radome would be heated to incandesence and so probably become electrically conductive, as is the plasma surrounding it, making radar transmission and reception impossible.
A warhead or hypersonic missile could change direction moderately with sideways thrusters or fins in a pre-programmed but apparently random fashion to make interception by an upcoming missile more difficult or impossible.
But what we observe here is camera shake!

I have been to both Turkey (2 weeks) and Iran (longer). Even in Iran, which is a theocracy, none of what you wrote is true. In fact, Iran has a temporary marriage license for boyfriend-girlfriend relationships, which is very straightforward and can last for one year, and be renewed. The main reason for that is to ensure that if a child is born of the union, that the woman is protected. The system has been abused (for prostitution) and many sunnis consider it a heresy. Boys and girls constantly text each other. Women even go out without their scarves, and no one is arrested (though there is a crackdown). Modest dress for women was also a traditional value in the West decades ago. Overly sexual displays tend to provoke and tease males, so I think it makes sense to dress modestly, especially if you are a married woman.

Judaism as a cult is partly defined by its claim that God chose one tribe — now a mixed-race gang — to abuse, terrorize, deceive, murder and celebrate the suffering of people outside the tribe/gang.

Just talk to anyone who has spent time in the Middle East. They will laugh at the idea of it being some sexually moral society.

With every post you’re beginning to sound more unhinged John. All religions have their quirks (clean/unclean/dietary laws etc). You believe Islam has no value, and that’s your opinion. But you seem to get extremely agitated when others don’t share that opinion. And everytime one of arguments is soundly defeated, you launch into some non sequitur: like Islam’s stance that dogs are unclean, as if this poses an existential threat.
Some commenters think you’re dishonest, while others think you’re a troll, I personally think you just need to get laid. I have an odd intuition that this is the antidote to your mental instability.
One can practically envision the grinding teeth, the clenched fists, the swollen vein twitching frenetically upon his frontal lobe…anger so palpable it practically leaps off the page.
The funniest part about this is I’ve never self-identified as a Muslim here. I’ve always explained that my knowledge of Islam and Muslim culture has been a result of my professional career, which has afforded me numerous opportunities to work with and learn from Muslims of many different cultural and professional backgrounds.
JJ seems to think Muslims want to deprive the world of dogs. Having spent some years in Cairo and Istanbul, it’s a pretty risible fear. There are Muslims who simply dismiss the hadith as weak, and others who, being of the Maliki school of jurisprudence, find nothing objectionable with owning dogs. Non-Muslims in Muslim lands have always been free to own them.
As for artwork, there are certainly Muslims who take the Amish route, but I recall seeing several Greco-Roman styled statuaries as well as a copy of the Mona Lisa hanging in the parlor of more than one Muslim home. There are also a number of modern art galleries featuring similar work in both cities. To date, none of them have been threatened with being shuttered.
Another thing about dogs… many Muslims tell me they have an issue with dog saliva. Interestingly, the latest research shows there’s some risk in allowing its contact with humans:

I don’t think Islam is congruent with Western values. It rejects free speech, most European art, indoor dogs, black dogs, alcohol, pork, shellfish, and women in shorts. That’s too much.
A bizarre religion that doesn’t help with any of our current problems.
It also tends to make its followers act mindless as seen by the October 7th attack. I’m sure they believed Allah was on their side and that everything would somehow work out. Well the attack ended up favoring Israel. If they had stuck to military targets there would be far more global sympathy. But gunning down 18 year old girls while wearing GoPros does not make you look like fearless warriors.
It’s really not a well thought out religion and most likely the work of one man. It borrowed from Judaism which is ironic given how much they hate the Jews.

I was reading the comments on an article from months ago and the discussion was around the alleged millions of deaths of Chinese people under Mao, it was mainly between you and some typical simple-minded american named Rurik.
Did Mao kill or not dozens of millions of Chinese? Even if Mao really killed 100 milion Chinese it didn’t make any difference in demographic catastrophe that is the Chinese overpopulation on this planet.
The core problem is that the discussion was based on the assumption that killing Chinese is a bad enterprise, wich is ridiculous.
What’s the Chinese? This specie wich is not human and too evil and sadistic to be classified as animals? Anyone cleaning this planet from such scum should be classified as a hero or even a saint. We should build shrines to venerate saints like Hirohito for example.
