Leftist women seem to be emerging as the “New Church Ladies”, as Jim Goad has called them. In an extraordinary expose, American Conservative columnist Rod Dreher recently reported that even Democrat operatives worry privately that “hard left women” incensed by Hillary Clinton’s defeat have “completely taken over the middle management of the party” and are “allowing their rage to guide them,” for example forcing the firing of a young data analyst, David Shor, simply for reporting evidence that the Martin Luther King riots damaged Democrats in the 1968 election [Big Sister is Watching You, June 24, 2020]. And watched any of the coverage of Black Lives Matter riots will be struck by one unavoidable question: Why are so many of the participants women—especially young women?

I reported a while ago on the evidence that more than 50% of young, extremely liberal females have been diagnosed with depression. There is also evidence that females are far more socially conformist than males. But according to a new study, published by the National Policy Institute, these are but two of a whole of host of factors which help to explain why such a large percentage of BLM protestors are young women.

The study—entitled “The Next Great Awakening” [June 27, 2020] and researched by independent academic Edward Dutton—argues that BLM should be understood as a kind of “religious revival.” It notes that it has all of the central components of traditional Christianity (dogmas, group-orientation, despising the outgroup, even over-detecting agency—evil racists though, rather than God’s presence) except metaphysical belief.

According to Dutton, religiousness, which is significantly genetic, became selected for partly because it reduced stress in the face of “mortality salience”—the realisation that you might die. Charting twentieth-century British history, the author shows that periods of “elevated mortality salience”—such as wars or the possibility of destitution—are always followed by “religious revivals” in which people become intensely devout and have overwhelming religious experiences, which reduce their feelings of stress.

Dutton presents evidence indicating that the kind of people who have such religious experiences, or who go through phases of extreme religiosity, tend to be high in Neuroticism (mental instability, intense negative feelings) and thus prone to depression and anxiety. In such people, these feelings are pushed to such extremes, that they become profoundly religious; an adaptive trait to calm the person down.

Fearing exclusion and ostracism, Neurotic people also tend to be easily caught up in mass movements, such as religious revivals. And these revivals are always dominated by young females.

According to Dutton, part of the reason for this is that females are, in general, more religious than males, Pew Research finding that 70% of American women are “absolutely certain” that God exists, compared to 57% of men.

And why are women more religious than men?

  • Firstly, they are higher in empathy—in reading signals of internal states from external markers.

This means they see evidence of feelings in the world itself in a way that autistics, who lack empathy and are usually male and irreligious, cannot.

  • Secondly, traditional religion has long been a marker of rule-following, including rules about sexual faithfulness.

So, to avoid being cuckolded, men would have selected for religious women.

This would set off a competition to be religious—as a marker of faithfulness—specifically among women. These women would be adapted to a religious-patriarchal system in which they were controlled by men because females who deviated from this did not pass on their genes.

But the new religion with which these young women have been inculcated is Multiculturalism, not traditional Christianity. And, as I have reported before and as the Dutton study also argues, accepting Leftist ideas—rather than conservative ideas and traditional religion—is associated with mental instability.

The result, argues Dutton, is that we would expect females who espoused Multiculturalism to undergo a kind of religious revival in the wake of the Covid-19 mortality salience, in a way that the “traditionally religious” would not. These Leftist females would have all of these religious impulses, but they would be expressed via “Multiculturalism” and, thus, via “Black Lives Matter.”

As Dutton puts it:

“Multiculturalism is the “new religion”—the “new morality”—and thus females would be evolved to want to signal the extent of their adherence to it, being ultimately psychologically adapted to polygamous societies in which they must compete for the highest status males by strongly signalling their religiosity and sexual faithfulness.”

Dutton further notes the evidence that females are higher in mental instability than males and are particularly high in it, relative to males, when they are in the late teens and twenties. This is supposed to adaptive, because it means that they are likely to be anxious about the welfare of their children. But it also means that females—in this specific age group—would be attracted to Leftist ideas (as they are associated with mental instability); would be prone to periods of intense religious fervor; and would very high in “extrinsic religiousness”—that is outward conformity to the dominant religion.

In other words, young females would be especially prone to being sucked into revivals. It is simply that the nature of the dominant religion has changed.

Dutton shows that women born in the 1920s were more religious than men and thus more right-wing, because Christianity inculcated them with traditionalist vales. Women born in the 1960s were still more religious than men, but they were more left-wing, because the influence of the churches had broken down, meaning that female generalized empathy was no longer directed towards traditionalism.

Dutton argues that this breakdown of patriarchal religion will have terrible consequences for females, because they have been selected to live in a patriarchy:

Females are also evolved to a patriarchal society in which decisions tend to be made for them by their fathers and husbands. With the breakdown of patriarchy, it has been argued that we would expect females—especially young females—to make particularly maladaptive decisions. These would include strongly aligning with a religion that seeks to destroy their ethnic group and effectively encouragers them to be childless.

In other words, white females would be attracted to religion that claims that “White Lives Don’t Matter.”

Females do not tend to create and lead religions. But they are religion’s most fanatical enforcers.

And is this nowhere better illustrated than in the BLM movement.

Religion? It’s more accurately described by brainwashing since these women, like America’s blacks, couldn’t even tell you who the leftist authors of their thoughts are. These young white women are the beneficiaries of affirmative action’s unmerited privilege in admissions to grad schools, hiring, and advancement, but nonetheless remain emotionally and competitively incapable of contending with the most soy of soy boys. On TV every pseudo documentary requires an equal or greater number of female scientists, historians, etc despite females making essentially zero contributions to science or academic research.

Having been told they can do anything any man can do, but do it better, and finding out otherwise, they blame it on repression by their own men and do so because that’s what the Jews who author their thoughts tell them to think through control of virtually every determinant of female opinion and belief now that Christianity is out, such as the 100% kosher TV, movies, news, music, and especially advertising.

It’s the same with the black beneficiaries of affirmative action, who not only are not grateful for whites making a place for them at the table and excusing black’s cultural appropriation of everything from electricity to medicine, but assume their failures are the fault of a conspiracy on the part of white males. What elevates this buffoonery to the level of biblical evil is the underlying attempt to exterminate both whites and blacks by blending them into homogenous, docile servants who Rabbi Yosef predicted would someday wait on the Jew hand and foot like he was an effendi. So far, the Kalergi plan seems to be working brilliantly.

So, you go, suburban white girl. Mmmm, mmm, mmm, you be so black da bro’s will treat you like a white princess. Mmmm, mmm, mmm. Sure dey will. Forget White Girl Bleed a Lot documenting the atrocities black men and women inflict on white women in huge numbers when the former are whipped into a frenzy of inferiority that sees you as its easiest prey and most desirable trophy. But, you know what? Go black, but don’t come back, you preening morons. No wonder blacks see you as phonies deserving what cannot be put in words.

Well put brother! No assmongling here!

It’s Lance Welton and Dutton who sound cranky. Women’s support of BLM has nothing to do with religion, since we all know how flaky and unsound female religion is. They don’t believe shit. More likely to be atheists than men.

    https://www.pewforum.org/religious-landscape-study/religious-family/atheist/gender-composition/

It has to do with collapse of White male authority, attractiveness, and future. Women are, fair minded and fair sexed and all that, going with the winners.

White men are the losers. POC men are the winners. Apparently they have bigger bollingbrooks.

One could hardly blame White women for being disenchanted with White men after their spectacular failure to defend is from demographic inundation.

Yet, far from “going with the winners,” White women remain loyal.

I must disagree with you also on your claim that BLM support among White women, such as it is, has nothing to do with religion. I think it does, but Welton is incorrect that it’s not patriarchal religion. Its every bit as patriarchal as Christianity ever was. It comes straight from the spectacularly male-dominated commanding heights of Corporate America.

  7. As the late great Otto Koenig (whom I had the honor of hearing before the feminists drove him to an early grave) put it:
“We have in us 10,000 generations of paleolithic – and 200 since then.
    [grins]
    What did you expect?”

    – I doubt that something as recent, superficial and self-contradictory as “religion” or “fidelity” begets these deep-seated reactions.
“Adaptive single mothers against infanticide” theory more effortlessly explains everything from feminism to BLM,
i.e. when we were still Nikers it paid for females to band together against roaming males liable to kill their brood (so they´d be fertile more quickly again).

    That they ended up with raping and murdering melanin-enhanced retards as their CHILDREN to be protected from (gasp!) eebil White MEN only goes to show they are right not to trust their undersized prefrontal cortices;
“thinking” with alternative parts of their anatomies does not make it “holistic” though.

    We are doomed 😀

If what they wanted was “docile servants”, perhaps a better idea (from their pov) would be to mix whites with mestizos and amerindians, instead of with blacks and arabs. Mulattoes are anything but “docile”, if anything, they are worse than pure blacks.

  10. I really do wish you right-wingers would stop referring to identity politics as “leftist” and “cultural marxism.” Identity politics is, by definition, reactionary. It turns the individual and the community inward, embracing self-definitions rooted in arbitrary determinism, however much it may claim to reject “socially constructed” definitions. It despises the outlying “other”, even while claiming to act for those excluded from the table (which, if actually well-reasoned and sincere, would be a praiseworthy thing).

Historically, leftism and the various strains of marxist-inflected social democracy and welfare-statism that managed to create prosperous, fair-minded societies in Western Europe after WWII, were ideologically configured to include all members of society in their structures of service and protection. Also historic leftism, being rooted in Enlightenment rationalism, rejects all transcendent mystification–of the very sort we see in the current SJW scourge, and correctly indicated in this article as a feature of the pseudo-left trends of recent years. (This is also one of its shortcomings and perhaps the single most fatal defect of the Communist systems of the USSR and elsewhere, where the suppression of traditional religion created a spiritual void that the deification of “humanity” and “history” simply could not fill.)

The astroturfed postmodern agitation we’ve been seeing has none of the values described above. If these deluded young women and men were truly leftists, they would be reaching out, among other things, to the objects of their hatred–namely, the vast masses of poor dispossessed whites–to form a vast nationwide people’s coalition strong enough to effect real change and possibly a new, much fairer order. But that would displease their sponsors

And so they do just the opposite. Fresh with their degrees from corporate universities, they grab their corporate funding like there’s no tomorrow and wage battle against people just as miserable as them, if not more so. And in so doing they spare the very institutions that oppress them–the political class as a whole (dissing Trump is not nearly enough), the corporate behemoths, the media, the banks, the mindbending think tanks, the military moloch–and direct their rage against their chosen scapegoats: the deplorables.

    Reactionary politics at its finest.

    Good link about atheists!
It also shows a scary statistic from which atheists seem to not have offspring.

Hence atheism should have been weeded out by evolution?

  13. Patta says:

I don’t agree on the evolution of female character by “males chosing the most religious women”

As the Otto Koenig cited above, we come from palelithic, and I guess that then every women produced kids until physical limit. Sexual selection is very weak on females, stronger on males.

If we want some evolutionary argument, a better guess is that religious/ emphatic women improve the survival of their offsprings, by making themselves well integrated in the tribe, and keeping the tribe united with religion.

Are the males that are less religious: Gods, priests and old patriarchs are not welcome if I want to be the alpha male, God myself, and maximize my offspring.

Why white women in the protests, we can build other explanations (already hinted in the article and comments):
    1) they feel as a minority, oppressed by white males. BLM gives them an excuse to protest against the perceived oppressor.
    2) I have read somewhere that in the next US presidential elections, the vote of white women will be the determining factor.
So they’ve been preferentially targeted by BLM propaganda, or preferentially pictured in the protests to influence their fellows

The current radicals are few in numbers and mostly young and white, as were the radicals of past generations. Every 20-25 years or so groups form around some propositions for drastic changes in society and fight on the street and in the universities. One such ideology wins and the various groups coalesce around it. The ideology that wins is the one that receives most material and media support. After the coalition forms it’s all about getting airtime for propaganda and infiltrating the parties.

    Chronicles:
    – The aftermath of the second world war saw massive strikes organised by the communists with the backing of the USSR. They obtained considerable concessions from the ruling class in little time.
    – The 1970’s were dominated by feminism and the quest for sexual exuberance. All rules separating the sexes in schools and dormitories were abolished. All common rules of decency vanished from society. The culmination were nudism or almost nudism on beaches. The sex radicals had the backing of large sections of the ruling class that shared the same love of promiscuity.
    – The 1990’s were dominated by the outpour of homosexuality with the support of most of the Western ruling class.
    – Multiculturalism and diversity radicals since 2015.

I believe every generation has a share of people that espouse outlandish ideas. Except that now they can find one another, form groups and start fighting. Some groups receive support from the ruling class and dominate. Their dominance attracts other crazies.

No need for too much psychology of the radicals. They have always been present among the normal population. The real culprit is the ruling class who backs them and uses them for destroying society.

    • Agree: Rosie
  15. Archange says:

One more thing. The argument that leftist females signal their sexual faithfulness by marching with the BLM is ridiculous. Quite the contrary, women in the former marxist and trotskyite fighting squads were shared among the men. Most likely it is the same today.

  16. Rosie says:
    @Patta

    1) they feel as a minority, oppressed by white males. BLM gives them an excuse to protest against the perceived oppressor.

Untrue. White women do not feel oppressed by White males, and haven’t for some time. Hence, the particular aversion to feminist identity among White women, a proxy for percieved victimhood.

    2) I have read somewhere that in the next US presidential elections, the vote of white women will be the determining factor.

True. White working class women will swing to the Democrats as a result of Trump’s failure to deliver for his voters. Non-college White women will vote against President Trump and college White women will vote against 2016 candidate Trump. Result: Trump will be the third Republican contender to lose White women since 1952, and it will cost him the election.

i rebut on feminism, with my statistically insignificant experience:

Today’s women won’t classify themselves as feminist, yes: feminists are (in our perception) crazy old witches with grey hair and no bra, a relic form the 70’s.

However women think they’re oppressed anyway, and keep old school feminism as “old inspiring heroes”, altough distancing to them as extremists.
I live in scandinavia, where the economical/social differences between sexes are nil, and still womem feel compelled to fight. I believe they’ll need to fight forever, against always fighting males.

Similar to feminism, nobody today will classify himself as communist, or nationalsocialist, due to the bad hystory of those terms; while in practice their core principles are more fashion than ever, embedded in our vision.

This is incoherent. To admire the “old school feminists” but reject the latter-day radicals is precisely to assert that one was oppressed in the past but is no longer.

In other words, the legitimate objectives of feminism have been achieved, or, at the very least, nothing more can be done without being unfair to men.

Patriarchy is greater responsibility and greater authority for Men. Including more freedom of action but also no shielding from consequences of said actions.

While Women have more privileges of a certain kind that is outside of authority at the cost of freedom.

Hence Male homelessness and male premature deaths are higher than women. And Men also have lower life expectancies as well.

Although Male Agency is also greater in certain domains by nature. Hence the majority of those killed in executions are Men too in accordance with their crimes.

Many legitimate complaints do come from injustices in the family courts for example. Or false accusation or the punishment the courts impose in regards to the same violent crimes that both sexes commit.

No, my argument is that this is not leftist at all, and therefore certainly not Leninist. If by “bio-Leninist”, you’re talking about the racialism and genderism, then I agree with the “bio” part of your binomial, but not the “Leninist” part, except, perhaps, in his concept of an “intellectual vanguard.” But even that possibility evaporates when you consider that these crazy kids probably have no idea that the concept even exists, and anyone who refuses to argue with those who might oppose them ideologically is not an “intellectual” at all.

The French Gilets Jaunes, for all their proletarian background, have a much better grasp of contemporary left thinkers such as Agamben, Toni Negri, Michel Onfray, etc. than do these Americans. They’re still stuck on the American academic distortion of obfuscators such as Michel Foucault and other French deconstructionists into identitarian acrobatics that skip all mentions of class struggle.

When Antifa and BLM start talking about class conflict and the depredations wrought thereby, I will gladly grant them the status of “leftists.” As long as the critique remains one exclusively of race and gender (all the better to divide the populace), and refuses to argue its position–thus denying the quintessentially Marxist-Leninist (not to mention traditionally philosophical) concept of dialectics–it will remain in my eyes reactionary and obscurantist.

I’m not sure what your point here is, other than to suggest that old-fashioned patriarchy was a square deal for women, but in any event, I’m not interested in trading in my freedom for immunity from consequences.

Moreover, I don’t agree with you that women aren’t held responsible for their actions. We have to pay our debts just like you. Indeed, back in the “good old days,” getting pregnant out of wedlock meant being consigned to squalor and early death as a prostitute on the streets. More recently, pregnant teenage girls were kicked out of school for their gracious decision to have a baby rather than an abortion.

It may be that men get harsher penalties for the same count, but you have to look at all the aggravating and mitigating circumstances of the crime. I understand that White men get lighter punishments than Black men. It doesn’t follow that the courts are biased against Black men.

As for family court, I don’t know if the courts are biased or not, but I do know that I haven’t seen any evidence that they are. When I press for specifics on what could be done to make it more fair, what I hear are essentially demands to nullify the marriage contract, letting men walk away with no obligations to their spouse. Again, I acknowledge I could be wrong about this, but I see no reason to assume a bias on the part of judges against men.
