White Identity by Jared Taylor has just been delisted by Amazon. Like most cases of this kind, the digital book burning was in response to a hit piece. An article from Quartz called “There’s a disturbing amount of neo-Nazi and white supremacist material on Amazon” frothed about White Identity and other titles. The piece was headlined by a picture of a flaming swastika and a group of people performing the stiff-armed salute.

The article recycles the usual silliness, claiming Mr. Taylor is a “white supremacist who has earned a place in the Southern Poverty Law Center’s ‘Extremist Files.’” But the most “extreme” quote Quartz could find from the book was a warning to whites: “If they do not defend their interests they will be marginalized by groups that do not hesitate to assert themselves, numerically and culturally.” The fact that White Identity has been banned while books championing “black power” are still on sale suggests Mr. Taylor is correct.

Another book targeted by the article—and banned by Amazon—was the The White Nationalist Manifesto by Dr. Greg Johnson, in which he “argues for ‘the right of all white peoples to self-determination.’” There is no explanation as to why this is bad or even controversial. Meanwhile, black nationalist flags and books promoting Aztlán continue to be sold.

As they should. Unless a book threatens immediate violence against specific people, a free country should not fear it. Of course, America is no longer a free country, and the impulse to censor is growing, especially younger Americans. A recent poll found more than half of college students believe diversity and inclusivity is more important than free speech, with blacks especially likely to favor restrictions. The whole country is becoming one giant college campus, with Google, Facebook, and Twitter arbitrarily censoring anyone they don’t’ like.

Amazon used to be different. The first major book banned by Amazon was The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure in 2010. Amazon banned it after a raucous media campaign. Certainly, almost no one would disagree that the book is vile, but at first Amazon defended it on free speech grounds:

Amazon believes it is censorship not to sell certain books simply because we or others believe their message is objectionable.

Since then, Amazon has banned several books without a clear explanation. For example, some authors were allegedly manipulating Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to get more money than they deserved.

Even if it did not ban their books, Amazon kicked a number of white advocacy groups—including VDARE.com, Counter-Currents, and American Renaissance—out of its “affiliate” program. The crackdown was especially severe after a March 2015 article in the Washington Post. Losing “affiliate” income was a setback for these groups, which was probably the intent of the Post article.

Holocaust revisionism started getting the ax in 2017, starting with Judaism’s Strange Godsand Judaism Discovered. Many books that deny the Holocaust or criticize Jews were banned. The World Jewish Congress specifically thanked Jeff Bezos for banning books it had brought to Amazon’s attention.

On September 7, 2018, nine books by self-help author Daryush “Roosh” Valizadeh were banned, ostensibly because of violations of “content guidelines.” The author was not told what rule he broke, but this was shortly after the Huffington Post contacted the company to complain that the books encouraged rape.

“Roosh” writes about sex, but many far more explicit books such as TRex Erotica are still on sale. In 2018, BDSM books were briefly removed from the Kindle best-sellers list, but were restored after a public outcry.

Amazon does not seem to have a clear policy for banning books. Instead, it reacts to press complaints, but does not always behave coherently. The recent Quartz article complained about George Lincoln Rockwell’s White Power; it has been removed and is available only through third-party sellers. Rockwell’s Collected Works, however, are still available for Prime delivery. Quartz yelled about The Jews and Moral Subversion and The White Rabbit Handbook, which supposedly prompted a terrorist attack, but they are still available. Critics often yell about The Turner Diaries, but it is still on sale by third-party sellers.

In August 2018, Amazon removed The Liberator Code Book: An Exercise in Free Speech, which included instructions for making guns with a 3-D printer. Stephen Gutowski at National Review condemned the ban, arguing that Amazon refused to explain or justify the ban. He submitted a plea for free speech as an op-ed in the Washington Post (owned by Jeff Bezos) but it was rejected. The ban was probably a response to a Forbes article, “Amazon now offers Cody Wilson’s 3-D Printed Gun Code in Book Form.”

It’s not clear whether it is legal to make such weapons at home, but books that explain how to make bombs, such as the Anarchist Cookbook and the U.S. Army’s G uide to Unconventional Warfare remain on sale, and Amazon still sells all manner of far-left texts and books, including The Antifa Handbook.

Amazon has also censored other products. Confederate flags were banned after the 2015 Dylann Roof church shooting in South Carolina, but Nazi imagery and “Kekistan” items were still available for a while. In July 2018, Amazon removed every product identified in an article in The Next Web. Third-party sellers still carry a few items that depict the Confederate flag.

There is no clear banning standard. Amazon reserves “the right not to sell certain [book] content, such as pornography or other inappropriate content,” but “other inappropriate content” appears to be whatever a journalist yells about loudly enough.

The latest banning campaign seems to be driven by a July 2018 report called “Delivering Hate: How Amazon’s Platforms Are Used to Spread White Supremacy, Anti-Semitism, and Islamophobia, and How Amazon Can Stop It.” It got coverage in the mainstream media, including in the Washington Post. The Quartz article also referred to it.

“Delivering Hate” listed specific items it wanted banned, but many are still for sale, or are available from third-party sellers. For example, “The Fable of the Ducks and the Hens,” by George Lincoln Rockwell, Race Differences in Intelligence by Richard Lynn, and The Mosque of Notre Dame by Elena Chudinova, are still available. Who knows for now long? The report calls for Amazon to work directly with the Southern Poverty Law Center and other “watchdog” groups so they can veto books.

This is a serious danger. Amazon is almost a monopoly in many industries and already dominates bookselling. Any book it delists is essentially unavailable for many readers. Publishers could sell a handful of books directly, but many dissidents are prevented from using online payment processors such as PayPal.

The right to free speech in the Constitution is all but meaningless if whoever journalists don’t like is banned from basic financial services, the digital public square, and online retailers. It’s clear that political disagreement rather than fear of violence or “extremism” is driving Amazon’s decisions. Just as on Twitter, Mr. Taylor’s reasoned, moderate arguments must be banned because they are persuasive.

BOYCOTT AMAZON AND START OUR OWN SALES WEBSITES.

The gullible Republicans had 2 years when they had control of both houses and the Presidency, but did not pass any laws banning internet discrimination against conseravatives.

As far as your suggesting that WaPo criticized Amazon, they are both owned by Bezos.

One option, in the interim, would be to sue Twitter and Amazon for discrimination under the civil rights statutes, for books that advocate white rights, and take it to the Supreme Court. As a private company, they can ban whosoever they want, people will claim. Oh, really? Do you think they can ban blacks? If you are back, you cannot shop at Amazon, nor will we let you sell any products?

Another would be to boycott Amazon. I have stopped shopping there since I found out Bezos was discriminating like this against patriots. We need to start websites that sell patriotic material, including on the Jewish Problem and Holocaust denial. Books can be drop shipped by the author or publisher directly, so there is no inventory issue (like ebay).

  3. Pft says:

Apparently they are starting to censor Vaccine skeptics, at least on video. There is some push to prevent amazon smile from allowing contributions to those groups critical of vaccine safety.

Basically, the war on free speech is well underway led by Prop or Not and the Ministry of Truth created in Obamas last month , and assisted by Google, Twitter and Facebook

Many alt media sites are either self censoring or being pushed to alter content

  4. I’m sorry, but I can’t dredge up much sympathy for dissidents who depend on enemy infrastructure for a living. They’re begging to be raped and humiliated, while helping to prop up their abusers’ businesses.

Contrariwise, when outfits like Amazon, Marvel, Faecesbook, Twitter and Disney, are kicking dissidents off their platforms, they’re forcing backbone and principle onto their enemies, while undermining their own monopolies.

On Amazon you can buy a bracelet that says “a truly great library has something to offend everyone”. You can also buy T-shirts, mugs, book bags and a bookmark that says “I read banned books.”
Will they ban these products too?
Come to think of it, I have a new product idea: a T-shirt that says, “I read books banned on Amazon.”
Will Amazon let me sell that?

  6. Free speech and free expression are done in America. This was started by Jewish Communists on college campuses. The label of “racists” was a favorite work of Jewish radicals in Weimar Germany where the Jews basically controlled everything and led to the rise of Hitler. All history will be wiped out. You will be fed the holy view from the Magic Jews. Anyone who disagrees like Taylor will be attacked. The networked SPLC run by Jews will reign supreme and they will designate all the racists for the media and the uniformed.

Amazon is part of the Corporate Fascist Military Industrial-Intelligence Police State. They work for the Deep State with their Cloud as well as their other entities which are readily available to the intelligence agencies. Truth died a long time ago and the Repubs are just as guilty as the Dems. The Repubs are easily intimidated by some dim witted college snowflake that calls them a racist. They cower before any suggestion that they could be antisemitic. They have brought this on themselves by taking the money from Jewish Donors and are at their beckon call.

Amazon is so pervasive even if you try to buy the same product on Ebay it usually comes from Amazon. This is what happens when the world’s pathways are controlled by a handful of corporations. These hit peaces are not by happenstance; they are conceived by people who are paid to eliminate all adversarial literature, writings, videos, and thoughts that differ from the chosen view.

There is only one way to fight this and that is to form your own publishing, distributing and media industry. But they have a plan for that too and that is to control the transfer of money by any organization including Paypal, Patreon, Mastercard, and Visa. This is why they wish to eliminate cash and other payments. This way they will stop people from producing or selling anything they don’t like. This is one of the protocols of a cashless society. There needs to be a major lawsuit against these organizations under the free speech law because it can easily be seen that Amazon is populated by books, songs and other stuff that hate whites. Go after Paypal, Mastercard and show that they transfer money for extreme leftist white hating groups. One method would be to attack Amazon and these organizations daily by thousands and thousands of people who claim that these books or their services are racist against whites. A constant never ending attack 24 hours a day.

If Bezos and friends fails to get the message then go after them world wide from their tax tricks to bill boards showing their hate of whites and never let up. Most corporations or bureaucracies cannot withstand a sustained attack. Call them what they are ….Fucking Communist not Socialists. Use the same techniques they do. Your choice…. Take the offensive and take it quick or live under the reign of these Communists.

  7. Capitalism apparently works just fine when a virtual monopoly arbitrarily decides to silence someone, yet needs help from the government when it’s time to (for example) tell a baker who they must serve.

On the other hand, the Internet still makes it a million times easier to locate, buy, sell and promote non-mainstream work, even without Amazon’s help, than it was during the days of bookstores and mail order. At least for the time being.

  8. Certainly, most certainly, free speech should not be restricted at all. For instance, the puerile racist drivel spouted by cesspit dwellers on unz.com give me a lot of entertainment, and also make me aware that whatever other problems I may have, I am better than them.

Heaven knows what might happen should I question the “special relationship” with the 51st state. They could build a Supermax just for me.

The harbinger of censorship from Amazon occurred a few years earlier (2007) when Jimmy Carter’s book “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid” was offered with a long disclaimer that read more like an official denunciation. It was all downhill after that. I remember trying to find a copy of “My Name Is Rachel Corrie” on Amazon back then. It did appear on their European (UK) website, but not in the US. After scouring the internet a copy finally turned up at a private bookstore in Oregon.

Given their propensity for censorship, and the Bezos-owned Washington Post for propaganda, it has always amazed me that their hasn’t been a unified national boycott against Amazon. Complaints about them both are endless, but every holiday season complainers reward Amazon and Bezos by pouring more billions of dollars into their pocket.

I don’t support them. After Amazon destroyed the brick and mortar stores I stopped buying books altogether. Nothing beats the local library’s inter-library loan system.

Amazon Bans Tommy Robinson’s Book, ‘Mohammed’s Koran’

“On January 7 of this year, I published an article at PJ Media about Amazon removing doormats featuring Qur’an verses from sale because the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) found them offensive. In that article, I asked:

How long will it be before Hamas-linked CAIR starts demanding that books that criticize jihad terror and Sharia oppression of women, gays, and others also be dropped by Amazon?

The answer turned out to be 51 days.

It’s the British government and the BBC, rather than CAIR, that are likely behind this, but Amazon has just dropped the book Mohammed’s Koran by the renowned British activist Tommy Robinson and Peter McLoughlin — and apparently only because its censors dislike Robinson. In the last two weeks, Robinson spectacularly embarrassed the BBC by exposing the bias and dishonesty of its reporter John Sweeney. The retaliation has been swift and severe: Robinson has been banned from YouTube and Facebook, and now his book has been withdrawn from sale.

    Coauthor Peter McLoughlin states:

[T]his is the twenty-first century equivalent of the Nazis taking out the books from university libraries and burning them. Can you think of another scholarly book on Islam that has been banned by Amazon? Mein Kampf is for sale on Amazon. As are books like the terrorist manual called The Anarchist Cookbook.

McLoughlin is correct that Amazon’s behavior has been wildly inconsistent. He adds that Amazon officials are steadfastly mum on why the book was banned:…..”:

Another reason to patronize your local booksto… What? It’s not surprising that a private firm can effectively suppress speech — antitrust laws could be used, but no one enforces them, at least in the realm of ideas. But one way to deal with this is to untether yourself from the likes of Amazon, Google, Facebook, TV, Hollywood, and mass culture. Try not to give a dime or your time to those beyond your community.

People do tend to squeeze harder as they lose their grip. Otherwise, this is all very sad.

    Editor, this paragraph:

“Since then, Amazon has banned several books without a clear explanation. For example, some authors were allegedly manipulating Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) to get more money than they deserved.”

seems to be missing something in the middle. Or perhaps the sentences are supposed to go elsewhere.

How come it appears that Obama is still president?

Because they are both figureheads for the same elite. It doesn’t matter which team wins the Superbowl, they still play in the NFL. It’s just a game.

  50. Today is a particularly dark day for free speech. I am already starting to look for alternatives to Amazon.

Amazon is almost a monopoly in many industries and already dominates bookselling. Any book it delists is essentially unavailable for many readers.
dissidents who depend on enemy infrastructure for a living.

Economic Zionism (EZ) is the culprit. Amoral economics finds no value in recognizing justice between humans, its about self. EZ excuses no opportunity to abuse for gain or profit.

Your comment suggests a particular business or set of businesses or a particular monopoly c\b identified as culpable and pressured into accepting a rationale of justice. But that idea fails to allow for an amoral system of economicswhich seeks to exploit and plunder any weakness adhere to justice might produce. (http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/51204.htm). EZ is the driving force behind the conversion of all that used to be competitive into that which has become the sole property and or the powerful monopoly (patent, copyright, and privatized assets) owned by a king of the mountain type. .

Just 26 persons own 1/2 of the wealth in the world, 7 billion share the other half.
Armed rule making (nation state) structures (ARMS) collectively enclose and control all of the earth’s surface, subsurface, and super surface. Many are now controlled by persons who discount human rights and adhere to EZ.
EZ does not recognize the thousands of years of humans have tried to organize their societies in ways that balance benefit with sacrifice in order to provide a just outcome.

  55. I would rather not see some kind of raging First Amendment fight with with Big Tech over the content they decide to feature, if it has the result of enshrining these entities into law as public utilities. I would prefer to watch Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Twitter fail and disappear due to their untenable business models, which they will once the era of artificially low interest rates and central bank money printing comes to end. On the other hand, if we establish social media as some kind of vital public service, we’re going to be stuck subsidizing this crap for God knows how long. I fail to see how that would not play directly in the hands of Bezos and Zuckerberg, who would them become literal vassals of Uncle Sam and therefore enabled to perpetuate their economic bloodsucking forever.

The cure for all this is not “free speech” but sound money. Am I really the only one who understands that? In a world of hard currency, of real interest rates, and of honest price discovery, it would be nothing but a laughable bit of absurdity that a company with no product (Facebook) and a company with no profit (Amazon) should be the ones controlling everything. The corollary here is that Amazon and Facebook are nothing but monsters birth by completely unnatural liquidity conditions and that, absent those conditions, they would quickly revert to their intrinsic value of “not a whole hell of a lot.”

If, however, we instead deem Amazon lord protector of everybody’s sacred free speech rights, this entails guaranteeing Amazon the authority to continue functioning in that capacity, which would mean subsidizing it and safeguarding it from all eventualities. I cannot think of a less satisfying outcome than that—Bezos finally winning in the end. We should instead be trying to correct the economic distortions that gave rise to Amazon in the first place, so that we can return more decent paying jobs to communities across the country.

Another would be to boycott Amazon. I have stopped shopping there since I found out Bezos was discriminating like this against patriots.

I can understand Taylor rejecting Neo-Nazi 14/88 crap, but Amren even bans comments that are critical of Jewish Power WITHOUT any of that nazi nonsense. He also bans criticism of Zionist policy.

  61. Oh, you people only want free speech for people who agree with you. You’re not different from any of the rest of them.

Only Karlin only wants free speech for people who don’t criticize him. Especially for the way he poses.

  62. @Intelligent Dasein

You have a point. Of course, secretly, they do make a profit. The rakeoff that goes to the bosses. But you’ve hit on the absurdity of our age–the profitless corps. Include Uber in your list, of course. And there must be a shoal of others. I’d like to have a list, just for edification.

But you adumbrate an interesting inference. Could it be these profitless corporations are nascent, inchoate public utilities? I mean, public utilities don’t have to make a profit. (You probably think this is bad, but I think it is good.) I mean, the Post Office doesn’t have to, in fact, shouldn’t, make a profit. Any and all surplus should be by law plowed back into the service. And, on the other hand, if it runs on a deficit, that’s alright, because public utilities are meant to be paid for by the people for the people’s use. I mean, the interstates run on a very very big deficit. Yuge. And yet, strangely, nobody complains “we need more turnpikes.” Not that turnpikes turn a profit. Because–like I said, one more time, let’s drive home the point–they’re not supposed to.

On the other hand, I don’t think these computer services would be any better administered as public utilities. They’d still censor everything, and the corporations would still somehow get their sticky fingers back into the pie. Catch 22.

  63. In surveys, some 75% say that they prefer shopping in a brick store to online.

Because of course, it’s better–you can see what you’re buying, you can ask the service people questions, you don’t have to pay for a device like a computer to buy things, and, most importantly, you can shop for it, find it, and take it home, all on the same day.

You’d think somebody would see the profit in giving the majority of the people what they want. Apparently not. This suggests to me that the “free market” doesn’t work the way they say it does.

I contact Amazon support who told me: “For your security, we canceled the following order when we could not confirm your information:”

I don’t think publishing is the problem, anyone can self publish. The problem is rather getting it printed affordably using POD so you don’t have to print and store 1000 copies in your attic. That was the big service that Amazon offered.

Amazon has banned sale of any analysis of the HOAX such as Nick Kollerstrom’s “BREAKING THE SPELL” which I consider the best compendium of information on Zyklon-b, mythical gas chambers, Nuremberg kangaroo court, typhus, and so forth.
Also, it is easy to be banned from making comments on HOAX related books offering specious claims like SIX MILLION, burning pits, Jewish blood burning, gas van exterminatios and endless hasbara to justify the ethnic cleansing and 75 year occupation of Palestine.

“Breaking the Spell” should be read in conjunction with “The Six Million: Fact or Fiction” by Peter Winter.

Reading these books forearms the revisionist with powerful, factual and historical facts which essentially put the Holohoax Lie to rest.

  74. joe webb says:

Free Speech is not a first principle as in the First Amendment to the US constitution.

It is the End of a long train of reasoning and feeling about not only ideas, but experience both historical and personal.

The history goes back to Ancient Greece, and Whites generally, especially in Northern Europe. Germany and Scandinavia “always” had elections and free speech.

So much a genetic component of these folks, that it did not have to be written down.

Magna Carta wrote down specifics of what the King could and could not do…mostly the could nots.

At the psychological level, which is the most important of all, free speech implies immense respect for rationality, Trust in other people’s ability to stay rational, as well as respect for their opinions and basic good will.

Good Will is what today’s writers’ on the health of the Body Politic call Social Trust (see Robert Putnam of Harvard Sociology ).

We cannot trust anybody whose capacity for rationality and objectivity is next to nothing.

When emotionalism erodes rationality, especially self-righteous indignation about another’s differences of opinion, the stage is set for war.

That is where we are now. The Left and the Anti-Racists have totally refused both rationality and science, and are in the grip of hatreds rooted in envy and sentimentality.

  76. The way to defeat Holocaust deniers is more political speech.

More speech is the answer everywhere in the free world except for the countries where Political Correctness substitutes for religion and for basic politeness, which is not taught to American children by the babysitters, NannyCams and low-wage daycare attendants who raise them. Any idea can be conveyed without stooping too low, leaving room for debate, and the sites that do this are hated the most by the PC censors since they are more convincing.

Conservative publishers could launch their own online sales platform to compete with the censorious PC capitalists, but they would probably be disfavored in search results, albeit it is not clear that the foreign nationals who staff America’s tech companies are all that pro-Israel or anti anti-Semitic.

It is clear that they are pro mass immigration, including pro-welfare-aided mass immigration, since lax immigration policy butters the bread of many algorithm designers, while undercutting the wages of US citizens for 40 years. Many US-born, liberal algorithm designers are paid so much that they can afford to put their PC religion ahead of the issue of 40 years of wage suppression via mass immigration.

    Algorithms do not design themselves.

Nor are algorithms protective of average, non-famous individuals despite the trashing of their First Amendment rights. Human-designed algorithms protect ideas that advance the economic and other interests of their designers and their designers’ employers.

It is the worst of both worlds, with no (or selective) shielding of average individuals from the worst kind of targeting speech that aims to degrade specific persons, not to change the political system, and with censorship aimed at selectively suppressing ideas.

The most-censored ideas are the ones that affect the bottom line, like anti-mass-immigration views, particularly those that point out how employers game the system to get a welfare-eligible workforce of womb-productive foreign nationals who do not need higher pay due to their pay-per-birth monthly benefits from Uncle Sam and their refundable child tax credits up to $6,431.

Algorithms serve as a selective shield, safeguarding some protected groups via the deplatforming of some individuals, while the internet at large is as brutal to average individuals as the gun slingers in the Wild West.

Individual lives can be destroyed due to zero privacy and Fourth Amendment protections, but the algorithm designers make sure that the Ten Commandments of Political Correctness are interpreted in a fundamentalist manner to control political speech. They favor the speech of some lords and protect some serfs, while subjecting some lords to PC tribunals and some serfs to all manner of abuse.
