My morning newspapers had recently mentioned Facebook’s plans to crack down on misinformation related to our ongoing Covid-19 epidemic, and probably like most other readers I just nodded my head. After all, many Americans might die if cranks or pranksters began promoting highly dubious cures to the deadly disease, perhaps even suggesting that people should inject themselves with Lysol to ward off an infection.

However, those bland public statements took on an entirely different meaning yesterday afternoon when I discovered that all material from The Unz Review had suddenly been banned for alleged violations of “community standards” and our own Facebook page eliminated.

I don’t use Social Media much myself, but others obviously do, and blocking all our website content from access to the 1.7 billion Facebook users seems a pretty drastic step. So it’s quite reasonable to wonder why, and especially why now?

From the very first, the motto of our publication has been A Collection of Interesting, Important, and Controversial Perspectives Largely Excluded from the American Mainstream Media, and I think we have fulfilled that pledge, publishing many thousands of articles and posts on an enormous range of extraordinarily controversial and even forbidden topics, notably including my own American Pravda series.

Under such circumstances, being banned by Facebook might hardly seem surprising. However, many of our most extremely controversial pieces were published years ago, drawing angry denunciations from various quarters, but received with apparent equanimity from the Lords of the Social Network. Nearly all of the “touchy” pieces we published in the last couple of weeks seem no more “touchy” than the ones from a year or two years or even three years ago. So what suddenly sparked this unprecedented action?

Although I can’t be sure, I strongly suspect that the triggering event was my own most recent American Pravda article, dealing as it did with the Coronavirus epidemic, the supposed focus of Facebook’s current crackdown. And this piece not only accumulated more early readership than any of my previous articles here, but also two or three times as many Facebook Likes, which might have raised serious concerns in certain quarters.

My previous American Pravda articles have hardly been bland, but disputing the established narrative of the JFK Assassination or World War II might be regarded as mere intellectual exercises, having little practical impact. By contrast, tens of thousands of Americans have already died from the Coronavirus outbreak while our economy has been wrecked. So raising troubling questions about the origins of this gigantic national disaster might be regarded as just too problematical to be allowed distribution on Facebook.

American Pravda: Our Coronavirus Catastrophe as Biowarfare Blowback? was the title of my 7,400 word essay, and I answered that explosive query in the closing section:

As the coronavirus gradually began to spread beyond China’s own borders, another development occurred that greatly multiplied my suspicions. Most of these early cases had occurred exactly where one might expect, among the East Asian countries bordering China. But by late February Iran had become the second epicenter of the global outbreak. Even more surprisingly, its political elites had been especially hard-hit, with a full 10% of the entire Iranian parliament soon infected and at least a dozen of its officials and politicians dying of the disease, including some who were quite senior. Indeed, Neocon activists on Twitter began gleefully noting that their hatred Iranian enemies were now dropping like flies.

Let us consider the implications of these facts. Across the entire world the only political elites that have yet suffered any significant human losses have been those of Iran, and they died at a very early stage, before significant outbreaks had even occurred almost anywhere else in the world outside China. Thus, we have America assassinating Iran’s top military commander on Jan. 2nd and then just a few weeks later large portions of the Iranian ruling elites became infected by a mysterious and deadly new virus, with many of them soon dying as a consequence. Could any rational individual possibly regard this as a mere coincidence?

Last month, a team of five WSJ reporters produced a very detailed and thorough 4,400 word analysis of the same period, and the NYT has published a helpful timeline of those early events as well. Although there may be some differences of emphasis or minor disagreements, all these American media sources agree that Chinese officials first became aware of the serious viral outbreak in Wuhan in early to mid-January, with the first known death occurring on Jan. 11th, and finally implemented major new public health measures later that same month. No one has apparently disputed these basic facts.

But with the horrific consequences of our own later governmental inaction being obvious, elements within our intelligence agencies have sought to demonstrate that they were not the ones asleep at the switch. Earlier this month, an ABC News story cited four separate government sources to reveal that as far back as late November, a special medical intelligence unit within our Defense Intelligence Agency had produced a report warning that an out-of-control disease epidemic was occurring in the Wuhan area of China, and widely distributed that document throughout the top ranks of our government, warning that steps should be taken to protect US forces based in Asia. After the story aired, a Pentagon spokesman officially denied the existence of that November report, while various other top level government and intelligence officials refused to comment. But a few days later, Israeli television mentioned that in November American intelligence had indeed shared such a report on the Wuhan disease outbreak with its NATO and Israeli allies, thus seeming to independently confirm the complete accuracy of the original ABC News story and its several government sources.

It therefore appears that elements of the Defense Intelligence Agency were aware of the deadly viral outbreak in Wuhan more than a month before any officials in the Chinese government itself. Unless our intelligence agencies have pioneered the technology of precognition, I think this may have happened for the same reason that arsonists have the earliest knowledge of future fires.

Back in February, before a single American had died from the disease, I wrote my own overview of the possible course of events, and I would still stand by it today:

Consider a particularly ironic outcome of this situation, not particularly likely but certainly possible…

Everyone knows that America’s ruling elites are criminal, crazy, and also extremely incompetent.

So perhaps the coronavirus outbreak was indeed a deliberate biowarfare attack against China, hitting that nation just before Lunar New Year, the worst possible time to produce a permanent nationwide pandemic. However, the PRC responded with remarkable speed and efficiency, implementing by far the largest quarantine in human history, and the deadly disease now seems to be in decline there.

Meanwhile, the disease naturally leaks back into the US, and despite all the advance warning, our totally incompetent government mismanages the situation, producing a huge national health disaster, and the collapse of our economy and decrepit political system.

As I said, not particularly likely, but certainly a very fitting end to the American Empire…

The spread of these simple ideas on Social Media might have dramatic political consequences, so I can easily understand why certain elements would take strong steps to prevent this.

There are too many unknowns about the events of the first months of 2020, surely to be one of the most unsettling short periods in the history of our country and the world. The digital masters of the universe have been depending upon one version of those events, while most common observers seem to be thrashing about in a whole different set of evidence.

The Unz Review, while exploring all of the wild manifestations of populism, seems to be allowing for the most complete exposition of all opinions and incomplete fact scenarios. Some people with a lot at stake don’t like the conclusions that are being drawn. This is a long way from being over.

Though the traffic issue may cause some consternation people who truly think and are interested in real issues and discourse will find this site in any event and it would be a fraction of a fraction of the 1.7 billion in any event.

I always liked the Thomas Edison chestnut that ” only 5% of the people think, 10% think they think and 85 % would sooner die than think” . I would only revise the percentages as 1%, 25%, and 84% and still feel generous with the 1%.

  14. Ano4 says:

    Hi Ron,

This analysis of yours and Whitney Webb’s publications , which you have allowed to become more widely known, would be enough to convince a great number of people that some powerful interests in the Anglo-American sphere of dominance are behind the current situation.

Whether this is true or not is of no importance.

As the narrative builds up towards Cold War with China, dissident voices must be silenced for fear of fueling social unrest.

It might well be that a new Censorship Tsunami would soon be crashing through the internet.

It should be expected as it is well known that truth is the first casualty of war.

And as any reader of your American Pravda series should understand:

“The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.”

  15. I still do not believe Trump knows what the CIA is doing. They are famous for undercutting Eisenhower by disregarding his orders to stop all spy plane flights before a meeting with Khrushchev, a peace meeting aborted when Gary Powers was shot down, and also stopped JFK’s order to make sure all of Castro’s jets were shot down in the Bay of Pigs invasion (although the CIA claimed McGeorge Bundy countermanded that order when the first attempt failed). Both Presidents accepted responsibility. The CIA has continually attacked Trump from John Brennan, who politicized the 2016 Election in favor of CIA-friend and warmonger Hillary, to Eric Ciaramella, CRF member and supposed “whistleblower” leading to Trump’s Impeachment.
Would the CIA attempt to destroy China’s economy through release of COVID-19 without Trump’s permission? Absolutely! Although probably Pompeo was aware and Haspel surely knew, the cover story was built through NIAID (Fauci’s agency) grants on gain-of-function in coronavirus in bats dating back to at least 2010 (to gain trust), and probably culminating in the War Games in Wuhan last October. The wet market was a convenient scapegoat although the Chinese quickly determined that a third of the early victims had not been near the market; this was not the Bird Flu, transmitted from wet market animals to humans, but not spread human to human. The WHO even accepted the wet market lie and tweeted on January 14th that there was no human-to-human transmission of the virus, thus obviating any need to close borders to Wuhan Chinese (although all the Asian countries closed their borders, which allowed them to deal effectively with the few contaminated who got in). I think Ron Unz gives Trump too much credit; he is not diabolical and smart enough to try something like this. The CIA, on the other hand, are never held accountable for their mistakes.

Undeterred, I inserted spaces in the url along with a description of the article and of this website, and with instructions to remove the spaces.

Since the “coronacrisis” began I’ve comment much less here whilst attempting to reach as many people as I can via Facebook. Their censorship of this vast and very important website only makes me more determined to reach out with as much real news and as many views countering establishment narratives as I possibly can.

I will continue to share by inserting spaces into urls. Hopefully some of the more curious FB users will be intrigued enough to pop over and find out for themselves what makes this site worth bookmarking and checking in at every day.

The ratios work automatically. Increased insecurity of ruling class increases the control of the flow of information. Eventually it will end up that only the ” official information” (as in Communist countries) will be permitted. CNN and Facebook are now the official information.

  18. The myth of a free press is dying with the mainstream media themselves. The press was free only so long as it was owned by trusted members of the Establishment.

I recently contcted with a marketing firm to market the Here Comes China newsletter on Facebook’s platform. Here’s the correspondence.

Me to HH Consulting: There are two successful newsletters publishing bad news about China. My weekly newsletter features good news about China, its successes and progress. It covers survey results, technology, social trends, finances and economy. I’ve attached a draft copy. I want to begin my social media promotion targeting people who regularly follow China-related topics and would like to know the size and composition of that audience.

HH Consulting’s reply:Godfree, our team are still confirming a couple of things. We want to ensure that if we do perform the advertising that it will be compliant with Facebook terms. I should have an answer within a couple days for you. After that point I will submit a cancel order request .

It turns out that positive news about China contravenes Facebook’s community guidelines..

I was often invited to join Facebook, but refused because I had read that Mark Zuckerberg stole the idea of it from a college roommate. Sleazy enough to arouse indignation. Anyway, it has become obvious that Facebook, along with Google, has become an asset of the Deep State, publishing lies and censoring truth, and should never be trusted. One of the few voices I do trust is that of Ron Unz.

  20. The American government has a long history of burying things they don’t like. There are many ways to do this, some direct and some indirect. The Unz Review’s Facebook ban coming after it floated a CIA-China coronavirus conspiracy theory is just the latest example (I personally don’t think the CIA was responsible – no one can be that dumb and/or malicious … right?)

Take, for instance, allegations the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was involved in an illicit “skimming off the top” cocaine trafficking operation during the 1980s. I believe the implication was that they were turning a blind eye to drug traffickers in order to extract enough kickbacks from them to fund various anti-communist rebel operations in Central and South America against congressional funding restraint.

A reporter for the San Jose Mercury News wrote an expose on the subject in the 1990s. Then, quite suddenly, reputable news sources reviewed the story and pronounced it debunked. Without passing judgement, I do note the curious coincidence between skyrocketing urban crime, Iran-Contra, the sudden explosion of crack cocaine on the streets, and the sudden decrease in violent crime at exactly the moment when democrat Bill Clinton assumed office as president (congressional investigators took it as license to start a serious examination of the issue).

“In August 1996, when the San Jose Mercury News published an in-depth series about the CIA-contra crack shipments that were flooding East Los Angeles, the major media held true to form and suppressed the story. But after the series was circulated around the world on the Web, the story became too difficult to ignore, and the media began its assault. Articles in the Washington Post and The New York Times and reports on network television and PBS announced that there was “no evidence” of CIA involvement, that the Mercury News series was “bad journalism,” and that the public’s interest in this subject was the real problem, a matter of gullibility, hysteria, and conspiracy mania. In fact, the Mercury News series, drawing from a year-long investigation, cited specific agents and dealer. When placed on the Web, the series was copiously supplemented with pertinent documents and depositions that supported the charge. The mainstream media simply ignored that evidence and repeatedly lied by saying it did not exist.” – introduction, Pg. 29

    Update:

“Finally, starting on August 18, 1996, the San Jose Mercury News published an extraordinary three-part series that confirmed the #2 Censored story of 1987. … investigative journalist Gary Webb of the Mercury News, revealed the contra drug smuggling network, exposed the CIA’s role, and made an important connection between the flawed foreign policy of Reagan and Bush in the 1980s and America’s drug-devastated streets of today. Anyone who wants to understand how crack cocaine became the scourge of America’s urban centers during the greatest crackdown on drugs in history, is urged to read the Mercury News series.”

“… Not surprisingly, three of the nation’s largest newspapers – The New York Times (10/21/96), the Washington Post (10/4/96), and the Los Angeles Times (10/20/96) – which hadn’t investigated and reported the original charges by the Christic Institute, were quick to investigate and report the Mercury News charges in a transparent effort to discredit them. The old ‘not exposed here’ process is embarrassingly evident in these belated efforts.”

Then “Jeffry Ceppos, executive editor of the Mercury News, published a column saying the paper made mistakes in its ‘Dark Alliance’ series and that he did ‘not believe that top CIA officials knew of the relationship.’ Series author Webb disagreed and said he stood by his stories (San Francisco Examiner, 5/12/97). The internet series is now prefaced by a statement directing readers to the May 11 column for ‘an understanding of this document or story.’ In July 1997, Webb told Project Censored he was taken off investigative reporting and exiled to Cupertino, a small community west of San Jose.” – Pgs. 204 – 205.

Ex-DEA agent calls Drug War a Fraud. 1990. “The latest insider to ‘go public’ is Michael Levine, who retired from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) after 25 years as a leading undercover agent for various law enforcement agencies. … Upon his retirement, Levine published a critical expose of the DEA in which he documents his journey from true believer to drug war heretic. Levine documents numerous instances of CIA involvement in the drug trade, State Department intervention, and DEA cooperation with both parties. Levine’s story closely parallels that of Richard Gregorie whose defection from the Attorney General’s office was the fourth ranked censored story of 1989. According to Levine, ‘The only think we know with certainty is that the drug war is not for real. The drug economy in the United States is as much as $200 billion a year, and it is being used to finance political operations, pay international debts–all sorts of things.’”

Oliver North & Co. Banned from Costa Rica after government accused them of running a drug front. “In July 1989, Oliver North and other major “contragate” figures were barred from Costa Rica. The order was issued by none other than Oscar Arias Sanchez, president of Costa Rican and winner of the 1987 Nobel Peace Prize. President Arias was acting on recommendations from a Costa Rican congressional commission investigating drug trafficking. The commission concluded that the contra re-supply network in Costa Rica, which North coordinated from the White House, doubled as a drug smuggling operation. As a result of the commission’s findings, North, former National Security Advisor John Poindexter, former U.S. Ambassador to Costa Rica Lewis Tambs, Major General Richard Secord, and former CIA stations chief in Costa Rica Joseph Fernandez, are barred from ever setting foot in Costa Rica again. The reactions of the U.S. press to this story was one of complete indifference. Despite a lengthy Associated Press wire report (7/22/89), mainstream media either ignored the story completely, or, like the Washington Post and the Miami Herald, relegated it to “News in Brief” sections. The New York Times and all three major television networks failed to mention the story at all.”

SOURCE: EXTRA!, October/November 1989, “Censored News: Oliver North & Co. Banned from Costa Rica.” Update: Oliver North left government, failed to win a Virginia senate seat, but made $1.7 million from speaking fees and book contracts in 1992 and 1993; his total assets were estimated at $3 million dollars. – Pg. 240.

Top Mafia prosecutor’s Miami drug investigation shut down. Told to lay off, he instead quit in protest. “One of the most extraordinary stories is about Richard Gregorie, who was one of the nation’s most successful Mafia prosecutors when he was sent to Miami with orders to go after the top people in the cocaine business. Gregorie did just that for eight years and became the top federal narcotics prosecutor in Miami. He became something of a local hero after making cases against big-time cocaine bosses and drug-corrupted officials from Miami to Medellin. But as Gregorie began penetrating the higher levels of the cocaine business, he began to target foreign officials of supposedly friendly nations, including General Manuel Noriega of Panama, while State Department officials were still courting the dictator. Gregorie’s elaborate undercover sting operations began to concern intelligence and State Department officials and he was soon told to stay away from certain sensitive areas. “I feel a lot like the soldiers in Vietnam felt. We are not allowed to win this war,” said Gregorie. Gregorie’s operations were subsequently stopped at the request of the State Department and he quit in protest in January 1989. Meanwhile Gregorie’s charges were validated by the findings of a Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Narcotics, Terrorism, and International Operations, which concluded that foreign policy interests were permitted to sidetrack, disrupt, and undercut the war on drug.”

Bush family drug connection. “Jeb Bush, Son. Jeb, a Miami real estate developer, knew Leonel Martinez, a Miami builder, as a generous contributor to Bush family causes. Martinez pleaded guilty in 1990, was sentenced to 12 ½ years in prison, and is expected to get out around 1998.” – Pgs. 272 – 274

CIA paid for pro-contra media coverage in Honduras. “According to Edgar Chamorro, former head of the contra communications office, ‘approximately 15 Honduran journalists and broadcasters were on the CIA payroll and our influence was thereby extended to every major Honduran newspaper and television station.’ In his affidavit submitted to the World Court in September 1985, Chamorro also said the same tactic was employed by the CIA in Costa Rica in an effort to turn the newspapers and television stations of that country against the Nicaraguan government.” … “Chamorro said he had been paymaster for the Nicaraguan Democratic Force (FDN) and had received money from the CIA to bribe Honduran journalists and broadcasters to write and speak favorably about the FDN and to attack the government of Nicaragua and call for its overthrow.” – Pg. 190

Note: This book also mentions the mysterious shoot down of KAL 007 in 1983 by the Soviet Union and speculates about possible CIA involvement in a botched spying operation which caused its destruction. There are several other good books on the subject that go into greater detail.

I think Unz Review has avoided all the banning for a number of reasons. There’s no advertising, no purse strings to cut. The subject matter was so outside the mainstream that any narrow minded fool could disregard it out of hand. Then there is the matter of Mr. Trump rocking the boat so hard that the opposition seems almost irrational at times. Coupled all with the fallacy of the economic policy that finally hit meltdown. This is a solid comment, but I would replace the word “smart” to describe POTUS to “evil”. Very few people, assuming this hypothesis is true, have the capacity to be this evil…but after reading Blum, we knew these people did it to other countries repeatedly in the 20th century. No surprise here.

One can only wonder who is running today’s drug business on the US side. It seems kind of fantastic that this enormous flow of illicit funds would just be ignored by the powers that be, and simply blaming ‘the cartels’ seems a bit lacking in explanatory power.

He cut me off. “That’s not the way the world really works anymore,” he continued. “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. The coronavirus was and is the distraction, the smokescreen, behind which the “reality creators” take complete control of American wealth, of all political power in USA and selected other locations; and total control of communications and surveillance.
In his multi-volume biography of the Rothschilds, Niall Ferguson recorded that the family achieved its wealth by imposing tight control over information OUT, about the family’s dealings; and superior sources and control over information IN.

Matt Taibbi posted this just yesterday:

Earlier this week, Atlantic magazine – fast becoming the favored media outlet for self-styled intellectual elites of the Aspen Institute type – ran an in-depth article of the problems free speech pose to American society in the coronavirus era. The headline:

Internet Speech Will Never Go Back to Normal

In the debate over freedom versus control of the global network, China was largely correct, and the U.S. was wrong.

Quoting a paper authored by two professors, Jack Goldsmith (Harvard) and Andrew Keane Woods (University of Arizona), Taibbi wrote:

They went on to list all the reasons that, given that we’re already on an “inexorable” path to censorship, a Chinese-style system of speech control may not be such a bad thing. In fact, they argued, a benefit of the coronavirus was that it was waking us up to “how technical wizardry, data centralization, and private-public collaboration can do enormous public good.” [read the rest, & weep]

That all said. I contracted it at a convention in CA the week ending January 18. Two days before. China admitted they had a problem. There were, literally, hundreds of Chinese taking part, and most of them hailed from Hubei, based on the business cards I picked up. Not necessarily Wuhan, although they were there, but Hubei and other manufacturing centers. I don’t believe the official Chinese stats, at all. Multiply every diseased patient and every death by 10 or 20 and you’re probably a lot closer to the truth, especially when you consider that Chinese coal use never cratered but their electrical production did. They were cremating by the tens of thousands and one mortuary alone got 5,000 urns.

Alternative theories about the origin of Coronavirus have been published in all the media – why should this site be treated differently?

After all, many Americans might die if cranks or pranksters began promoting highly dubious cures to the deadly disease, perhaps even suggesting that people should inject themselves with Lysol to ward off an infection.

Precisely. This example is also a good illustration of Americans’ common sense. The number of Americans who deliberately consumed bleach, believing it to be a cure for Coronavirus, is probably fewer than 10 – out of 330 million.

He appears to concede he may have crossed the line in social media. One solace, Facebook and the other social media giants appear half hearted about censorship. As a Christian Saint wrote, out of the blood of martyrs spring more martyrs. I get the feeling there are secret allies for freedom of speech in Facebook etc. They only censor when compelled to. They are forced to analyse dissident speech and start to agree with some of it. In East Germany, Government censors became in the forefront of dissidence for same reason. And never forget America is English speaking. Freedom of speech in English common law predates the State and is a natural right. In Europe, freedom of speech under Roman law is a limited right given by the Government In Asia, it is a foreign import.

  75. Eagle Eye says:

    Mr. Unz,

Maybe you should seriously consider actually suing FB, on the basis that it is a “common carrier” providing a service to the general public. You are perhaps the best-placed person in America to bring such an action.

“Common carrier” and similar doctrines have long been recognized under California and federal law. (Federal courts do apply California law in certain cases.) The USPS is required to carry all mail, including communist newsletters etc. The same would apply to a private service such as FedEx. Why not Facebook?

U.S. District Judge Lucy Ko (“Northern” District of California i.e. Bay Area) strongly hinted in a decision a few years back that censorship by social media could be subject to review under common carrier doctrines. (In that case, the plaintiffs had failed to assert any common-carrier type claims.)

The WSJ/Economist choir will, of course, scream about the sanctity of “private” entities, but that has not been the real American tradition since at least 1880.

Another underappreciated area of law for these purposes lies in the area of anti-trust law. FB, Twitter, Google, Apple etc. clearly maintain direct communications and cooperate to ban certain content to protect favored narratives. This collusion violates long-established anti-trust principles.

Of course, you and your advisors would need to consider carefully the risks to you and to them in going up against de facto government entities.

  76. Like I mentioned in an earlier reply to Mr. Unz, the origins of this pandemic are interesting, but it is the response of the many governments of the world and the blatant fearmongering of the MSM and censorship by social media giants to steer the direction of public discussion and policy debate that would make for a great American Pravda piece.

  80. In the mid-1990s there was a great debate about what this new Internet thingy would mean.

Would it be the beginning of a great awakening of a global intelligence that was freed from censorship around the world?

Perhaps every world problem could be solved, now that every person’s opinions and suggestions could compete in a free marketplace of ideas.

There were a very few voices warning that this would and could never happen, that the powers that be would have to figure out a way to censor people and regain their thousands of years of control over information.

The Internet itself would force the rulers’ masks to come off, and to declare war on ideas that failed to comply with official narratives.

I tended to doubt the Unz thesis that the US was ultimately responsible for the virus–but the censors are beginning to convince me.

Censoring lies is not what they do because lies can be overcome with data and evidence–censoring truth is the trademark of elites everywhere and always.

  83. Sorry to hear this. More and more censorship of opinions and facts that certain groups of Tech giants don’t like.

Zuckerberg is highly leveraged with the Gates Foundation through the COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator initiative.

These folks are all part of the hysterical (but powerful) Left which adores China. Evelyn de Rothschild in more than one interview over the years made bold statements of Praise towards Asia and China in particular; his wife is best friends with Hillary C.

Klaus Schwab, leader/founder of World Economic Forum (WEF), recently stated that China was in the best position to move the world forward into a high tech civilization/system (If I can find that article I’ll post it, but it was recent). The WEF also has links with Gates.

Gates & Zuckerberg are two of the worse psychopaths on the planet now.

Hmm — the 240-year-old “community standard” in America is to publish political speech. UR is not screaming “fire” in a crowded theater. Because UR’s content is “different from the norm,” it is news, and therefor important and publishable. Not publishing UR information is a dereliction of a general news publisher’s duties. UR is a letter to the editor. Contrary opinions must be published.

Facebook is not using America’s founding “community standard” in shutting down UR.

There must be some way to get that idea into the law.

  90. Censorship Continues. Facebook Permanently Deleted SouthFront’s Page
    May 1, 2020

    DEAR FRIENDS,

SouthFront once again became a target of corporate censorship. On April 30, Facebook permanently deleted our page (LINK) with about 100,000 followers.

This is not the first time, when SouthFront becomes a target of the technical and propaganda pressure campaign. On April 9, Facebook placed limits on SouthFront’s page claiming that its activities “don’t comply with Facebook’s policies.” (LINK)

On July 21, 2015, Facebook deleted our previous used to inform people about the conflict in eastern Ukraine, Syria and other key developments around the world. (LINK)

It would be interesting to know if people who participated in the MuddyUp sponsored by Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, CT (BGCG) on Sept 29, 2019 are now experiencing Covid-19.

    I was there.
The next day had typical cold symptoms — scratchy throat, runny nose, congestion in sinuses and upper respiratory but not lungs.
It lasted about 2 weeks. Not debilitating to the point of flat-on-back but not able to carry out my normal work, which demands physical exertion.

The current round of flu-like infection has not touched me at all.

I have found them to be well made and very informative.

As far as I can tell, they don’t actually present a point of view.

They seem to be presented in a “just the facts, ma’am” fashion, with a voice-over style that is neutral in the extreme—almost monotonic— and with clear graphics and animations to show the geographical and tactical details and of the back and forth in Syria that otherwise are hard to grasp and place on a map.

I cannot imagine any pretext for banning Southfront or taking it down!

Mr. Unz, your hypothesis of a U.S. biological attack has not seemed convincing to me

US most likely didn’t do it as the US isn’t ruled and controlled by national leaders, national representatives, and national agents. US is to Jewish power what India had once been to British Imperialism. So, even if the agents who spread the disease in China were from the US, it’d be misleading to say the US did it. Rather, it was rogue or special agents of globalism. While Jews aren’t the only agents of globalism, they are certainly the most powerful with most connections and sway. Also, whatever Jews do is automatically shielded and covered up by the media, US politicians, and US agencies. Suppose there is evidence that does point to the Jews. Will the likes of Lindsey Graham and Tom Cotton call for investigation into Jewish Power? No, they will be silent and ignore it… or work to suppress the evidence.. and so will the CIA, NSA, and FBI, all cuck agencies of globalism. While US media howl about Russia, Russia, Russia, they were mostly mum about Israel tapping US phones in DC. And even US intelligence agencies didn’t make much of it.

    https://www.richardsilverstein.com/2019/09/12/israeli-intelligence-spied-on-trumps-cell-phone-calls/

Suppose British imperialist agents in India hatched a plot against another nation or government. Would it be fair to say ‘India did it’? Of course not. Rather, it would be the work of British Empire operating from India. Consider how Arnon Milchan worked across Israel, US, Europe, Africa, and etc. He’s a global agent whose main loyalty is to Jewish supremacism. There are many globalists just like him. Many are Jewish supremacists and others are cuck-collaborators(who are rewarded handsomely, much like the Chinese in British Hong Kong), most of whom are Anglos. It is right to call this master-servant relationship the Anglo-Zionist network.

Because the US government is a puppet government, a covid plot hatched by globalists need not have gone through the official circles. Indeed, the real power in US agencies are not with the heads or chiefs of agencies but with movers and shakers behind the scenes. Why don’t officials and managers try to flush the system of these ‘rogue’ elements? Because the roguers are ‘made men’, protected men.
It’s like in CASINO the movie. Why doesn’t the casino expose the people who come and go and rob the place? Because those guys are working for the real power behind the operation. The ‘board of directors’ remain clueless. The industry looks the other way while men come to skim money from the place for organized crime.

Surely, there are men in CIA, FBI, NSA, and etc who know fishy stuff is happening, but they gotta remain mum because Jewish Power is ‘made’. Why is it that Milchan can walk around as a free man in the US even though he admitted, even boasted, of having stolen US secrets? Why were the Dancing Israelis and certain Saudi element allowed to leave the US following 9/11? Dancing Israelis were held and questioned for awhile, and there were promising leads… but suddenly, it was all closed and they were allowed to return to Israel. Made Men.

Globalists are pushing a narrative of US vs China, but it’s really the Glob vs US and China, the difference being that, while US is totally controlled by globalism, China isn’t yet, at least totally. US, or White America, went from the controller of globalism to controlled by globalism, which is now mostly Jewish-supremacist.

But no one in the US dares say anything about Jewish power, and even the Chinese, who surely know all about Jewish Power, dare not mention Jewish Power because it’s such an absolute taboo in the West.

Now, it’s very likely Covid came from some Chinese lab, but there are some fishy details, and IF it was used against China by a foreign power, it would be wrong to say the US did it EVEN IF those agents operated within the US. Just like Trump and Flynn had no idea what the deep state was cooking up against them, most of US government is actually in the dark about what is REALLY being hatched and carried out by elements of shadow government that infect all layers of the government. It could be in the form of AIPAC goons pressuring all politicians to sign the pledge to Israel. It could be Jewish lawyers working behind the scenes to have BDS banned. Or Wall Street guys making sure politicians dole out the bailout money.

This shadow power is awesome but remains vague, just like Youtube and Facebook terms of services. Vaguer they are, the more leeway the Power has to shut people down and justify just about any action. It’s downright kafkaesque with the caveat that kafkaism went from a Jewish warning about goy tyranny to the Jewish blueprint of tyranny over goyim and dissident Jewish voices who don’t go with the program.

I should probably clarify something implicit in my analysis but that I never made absolutely explicit…

I think the evidence suggests a strong likelihood that the Coronavirus outbreak was an American biowarfare attack against China (and Iran). But if so, it would have been carried out by elements of the American national security establishment rather than by “the American government,” which is an important distinction.

For example, based upon the behavior of President Donald Trump during the last few months, I’d say there’s a 0.000% chance that he himself either authorized the biowarfare attack or was even ever made aware of it. This isn’t so surprising since Trump obviously doesn’t control his own government, as shown by the fact that quite a number of his closest friends and allies have been sent to prison for helping to elect him in 2016.

I’d assume that the culprits are the Deep State Neocons whom Trump, for reasons only he can understand, has appointed to so many top positions in his own administration.

If a normal country like Russia or China carried out a biowarfare attack, we could be sure that the top leadership was behind it, or at least was informed of the plans. But these days, America is most certainly not a normal country…

Meanwhile, in addition to NATO itself, there are also payments made by the US State Department, along with bungs from the US Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines.

Other major paymasters include the government of the United Arab Emirates, which is, of course, an absolute monarchy. 127. Being banned by Facebook (or YouTube, or Twatter) is only effective if those three shitholes are important revenue streams: since Unz Review doesn’t have a subscription or ad-rev model, this ban only has upside.

They’ve guaranteed you a spike in traffic, and additional notoriety. That always happens – for shoestring operations it’s a huge negative to have traffic spiking at the same time as being demonetised (e.g., Sargon of Akkad; Paul Joseph Watson etc).

Doubtless the weepy scrawny little faggot at Patreon will probably make life difficult for Unz writers … iSteve and others ought to have smelled to coffee long ago, and diversified away from those parasitic cocksuckers led by a pretentious cunt whose fagginess is measured in yottaCucks. (PATREON DELENDA EST).

The only downside is that ‘social media’ bans also generally mean a spike in DDoS attempts (from nappies who think DDoS is edgy). This is useful again because shoestring operations are vulnerable to that sort of thing, because they don’t use CloudFlare or other CDNs with (some) DDoS protection.

The only thing genuinely worth worrying about, is to ensure that the WordPress installation is up to scratch: the default WP DB setup used to be hugely vulnerable (it’s much much better over the last 5 years).

Apart from that: look forward to “Banned in Boston” meets “Streisand Effect”.

A candidate for an important handshake for 2020 would be you and Joe Rogan shaking hands after a 3 hour podcast.

Your Wuhan flu material is extremely interesting (I don’t agree with your assessment of its severity), and very timely and relevant.

Rogan is exceptionally good at letting his guests state their positions uninterrupted.

Assignment of responsibility for criminal activity requires meeting three criteria: means, motive and opportunity.

Dispensing with opportunity first, any government or rogue individual could have flown to Wuhan and released SARS-2. The military games would not be necessary; if anything they would be a useful diversion by allowing disaffected Americans to argue that the U.S. was the culprit.

For means, if one assumes that SARS-2 was first studied in a level 4 virology lab and subsequently released, then the U.S., China and Israel meet the first aspect of this criterion. There is, however, a second aspect of means. The laboratory’s virus must be accessible to those tasked with its introduction into the human population. Of the three countries, access would be guaranteed to Chinese and Israeli labs assuming that either of those governments were behind the release. Access by “Deep State” agents to U.S. viral stocks would be much less probable because multiple administrative levels in bioresearch would need to bribed or coerced.

For motive, if the U.S. intended to cripple China, then it would have been prepared not to be crippled itself. It would have had all necessary PPE, would probably have an effective ani-viral drug available, and most of all would have immediately instituted a legally enforced stringent lockdown. As to Israel, why would it want to cripple China, most especially if there was a high risk that its cash cow slash colony, the U.S., would be driven towards bankrupcy and social upheaval that would put Jews and ZOG in danger. There is no logical reason that the U.S., Israel, or the “deep state” would have released the virus.

If one choses to believe that SARS-2 was deliberately released, motive points to China. It acted decisively to control the epidemic within its borders, and could have predicted based on epidemiological modeling that with social distancing, testing, contact tracing and quarantine, that the virus could be controlled. And despite the effectiveness of these measures, it could surely have expected that once the virus reached the U.S. a crippling cluster-f**k would ensue, given that the U.S is a decentralized, socially-divided, ethnically-challenged, scientifically-ignorant nation. Its motive could simply have been to leapfrog over the U.S. in its quest for hegemony.

I don’t know whether the virus jumped naturally from a bat population, or escaped from a Wuhan lab, or was deliberately released in Wuhan. But I do know that believing “deep state” American actors were responsible for a release does not meet the criteria of inference that have been routinely used by police detectives for one hundred years.

Trump Never Said To Inject Lysol Or Drink Bleach

Semantics. Trump directly suggest the government explore options to inject people with disinfectant and “bring light into the body.” This is the same kind of false narrative Trump supporters used to defend him from his coronavirus hoax comments: they claimed he never said the virus itself was a hoax; that’s true, few people were suggesting he did; instead, he claimed the virus threat itself was a hoax and compared it to the flu. See how they divert attention to strawmen they create?

Trump directs experts to see whether they can ‘bring light inside the body’ to kill the coronavirus, even as his own expert shuts him down

    https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-wants-bring-light-inside-the-body-to-kill-coronavirus-2020-4?op=1

Here’s another example of how his cult followers lie:

Trump calls coronavirus Democrats’ ‘new hoax’

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. — President Donald Trump accused Democrats of “politicizing” the deadly coronavirus during a campaign rally here on Friday, claiming that the outbreak is “their new hoax” as he continued to downplay the risk in the U.S.

Trump again drew a misleading comparison between the coronavirus and the seasonal flu, telling his supporters that “35,000 on average each year die from the flu, that’s a lot of people.”
“So far we have lost nobody to coronavirus,” Trump said, suggesting the growing global panic was due to the press being in a “hysteria mode.”

    https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-calls-coronavirus-democrats-new-hoax-n1145721

Here’s a so-called debunking typical of the Trump cult crowd:

“Trump rallies his base to treat coronavirus as a ‘hoax,’” reads the headline. Verdict: False. Trump referred to “politicizing” of the coronavirus by Democrats as “their new hoax.”

    https://www.dailysignal.com/2020/03/02/fact-check-did-trump-call-coronavirus-a-hoax/

Actual verdict: True. Trump specifically compared the virus threat to the flu and referred to the virus threat itself as a hoax. The “politicizing” angle was not pertinent to this point. When he said “hoax” we wasn’t referring to the “politicizing” bit his cult followers falsely claim he was. That’s a strawman. Trump was downplaying the virus as a nothinghamberder, which all of us who read and have IQs above 90 now know is false.

But I am not yet persuaded that the coronavirus is not a media-driven, politically motivated, grossly exaggerated event.

According to wikipedia this morning, 1.13 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed and 65,605 people have died from coronavirus in the United States between Mar 4 and Apr 28, 2020.

By comparison, the American Cancer Society projects that in 2020, 1.8 million persons will be diagnosed with cancer, and 606,520 of those persons will die of the disease, a 33.6% death rate.

Estimated death rates from cancer have decreased over the years, from 35.5% in 2017 to 35% in 2018 t0 34% in 2019.
It’s worth noting that in July, 2018, less than three years into what was to be a seven-year project, the Biden Cancer Initiative (BCI) — based on the Obama White House’s Cancer Moonshot Initiative — announced that it had suspended its operations indefinitely. https://thehill.com/opinion/healthcare/453593-bidens-cancer-moonshot-another-failed-health-care-initiative

These projections do not include basal cell and squamous cancers.

The medical, social and financial burdens of cancer on American society are enormous: one in four deaths in the US are from cancer.

It’s expensive to treat cancers — even basal and squamous cancers which usually begin with outpatient surgery, ~$3000; if reconstruction surgery is required, that’s an additional outpatient surgery demanding highly-skilled specialists. A regimen of radiation or chemotherapy may also be required: a typical prescription of radiation therapy calls for 30 to 35 treatments at a cost of approximately $1200 per treatment.

The various forms of radiation therapy for cancer use very expensive technologies: a linear accelerator to deliver external radiation can cost $10 million.

Many cancer centers have remained active and are treating patients through the coronavirus crisis. However, the technology is only one element of cancer treatment, and it’s the scariest part: cancer treatment centers typically provide extensive support services involving support groups and ancillary specialists to provide advice on nutrition, transportation, side-effects management and the like: these services are severely curtailed by the impact of coronavirus. The machines are humming but the cancer patient is pretty much on his own to navigate the psychological and side-effects of absorbing radiation therapy.

Whether or not 5g is harmful to humans — that is, whether or to what extent 5g may cause cancer– is beyond my knowledge.

What I do know is that Pres. Trump “quietly” signed into law two bills “designed to boost broadband and wireless networks:”

Under the 5G Act, the president must consult with Federal Communications Commission, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and other agencies and submit to Congress a plan for rolling out secure 5G, both within and outside the US, within 180 days.

The next generation of wireless technology, 5G brings increased networks speeds and network responsiveness and promises to help bring about real-time mobile applications for technologies like driverless cars and virtual reality. The nation’s biggest wireless companies, AT&T , Sprint , T-Mobile and Verizon , began rolling out 5G service last year.

But it allows now to indict China as the culprit and with the hope to steal what could be stolen. Same plan as with North Korea. And wait for the Chinese reaction if that should happen. So yes the plan is idiotic, but not for twisted minds.

The problem’s still there. If some company or group of companies — be they the railroads or be they Facebook et al — gain an effective stranglehold on something central to our existence, it creates a problem

    .

??? The Jews have had a stranglehold on our media for 100+ years …. and look at the result … we’re living it ….. a freaking nightmare – total thermonuclear destruction – waiting to happen …. and no one notices.

    The beginning:

The nation which above all others claims to be free and in sovereign command of its own destiny was brainwashed to the hilt. In 1914 any American would have laughed to scorn the idea that in three years time he would be struggling and suffering in France for the sake of affairs which had no connection with those of his own country.

‘And yet, when 1917 came, the same man enlisted enthusiastically. Every soldier whom we happened to interview and questioned as to his personal motives for fighting, invariably replied: ‘we are fighting for democracy’. They were one step ahead of their fellow soldiers from other nations, who went for their own country’s sake.

‘It is only when we realize that France was invaded by hundreds of thousands of inhabitants from Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, Wyoming, California, Louisiana, and subsequently from Ontario, Manitoba, Rhodesia and New South Wales, whose only possible motive was to hasten the triumph of democracy, that we begin to understand something of the power of Israel. The power to stir up a whole nation of solid, egotistical and utilitarian individuals, and to persuade them that their greatest privilege is to set out and get themselves killed at the uttermost ends of the earth, with no hope of gain for themselves or their children and almost without their understanding against or for whom they are fighting, or why, is a simply incredible phenomenon which makes one afraid when one comes to think about it.’

This is not about monopolies. State run monopolies in some sectors of economy are always better. If the FB was state run or state regulated utility they could not hide behind the usual copout of being private and thus being allowed to do more, like do more in censoring and refusing access. The government can’t hold them responsible for it because they are private and as private entities they have rights. For this very reason the US powers that be prefer private media than state media that under the law could be and would be publicly scrutinized and controlled. Americans can’t climb out of the semantic trap created by years of conditioning and propaganda that the private is always better than public and that corporations acquired a personhood and thus are entitled to rights like any citizen. This semantic trap limits the full discourse limiting the debate to competition(private) vs monopoly (private) only.

I think we’re agreeing. My point is actually that the federal government did start regulating railroads — setting tariffs, etc.

Something equivalent is not necessarily the only or even the best solution to the problem of Facebook et al, but step one is realizing that there’s a problem.

  188. FB is not a government site, it is a private enterprise and as such has the right to decide on its content, just as you do Ron. Someone can come a long and start a rival to FB that allows different content. So I do not see it so much as censorship.
Censors are very touchy about conspiracy theories with regards to Covid as it is currently a very confusing situation with the locks down, loss of work and a wrecked economy. The internet did not turn out so well as many unstable people get more deranged by misinformation or conspiracies. It lets loose a lot of craziness. So with people out of work and pent up it is bad to serve up any information that might incite violence.

I have personally noticed a severe dissent by PG from substantial anti Zionist articles into just plain Jew bashing to the point where he has presented false information, and his FB commentators reflect the slide with cartoonish Jew tropes etc. I think PG will be kicked off FB any moment irrespective of UR. Everyone knows that America’s ruling elites are criminal, crazy, and also extremely incompetent.

Which would explain their relationship with The Chinese Communsit Party.

    With that in mind

So perhaps the coronavirus outbreak was indeed a deliberate biowarfare attack against China

should read: “…the outbreak was a joint-venture hate hoax orchestrated by The CCP and our hostile elite to destroy the USA and make China look good.

However, the PRC responded with remarkable speed and efficiency

Did the guy they hired to organize this pandemic use to direct Vanilla Ice videos?

Cause that’s the last time I saw choreography that predictable and stiff.

Or, as long as we’re on the subject of bad choreography, maybe he was influenced by the people who brought us the Lee Harvey Oswald assassination.

Meanwhile, the disease naturally leaks back into the US, and despite all the advance warning, our totally incompetent government mismanages the situation

Tragedies that follow “advance warning” is a tradition among the hostile elite that goes back to Peal Harbor and includes September 11th, 2001.

producing a huge national health disaster, and the collapse of our economy and decrepit political system.

In other words, the deliberate collapse of a country they openly despise and long to destroy by, in part, replacing the host population with other people and robots.

And then along comes a populust uprising and ooops, they need a plan!

Who needs a Conspiracy Theory when you have The Unz Review?

The answer, obviously, is that you don’t.

Maybe the possibility that the hostile elite have started to ask themselves this same question and have answered it in the same way is the real reason behind TUR getting removed from facebook.

FB is not a government site, it is a private enterprise and as such has the right to decide on its content, just as you do Ron.

Graceful loser syndrome. As the poster above said, it’s a “semantic trap”. That’s why the American right loses all the time. They’ve been conditioned by the corporate media to repeat useless jargon on behalf of companies who discriminate against them while their enemy observes no such limitation for themselves. It’s ultimately self-defeating. It assures that you lose 100% of the time, which is why they promote that stuff.

AT&T was also a private telecommunications company. We regulated that monopoly so that they couldn’t simply deny service to people at a whim. Same here. Facebook is a monopoly. Regulate them or break them up so others can compete with them, but don’t defend them. You do so at your own peril. There is no honor in gracefully losing, which is the hallmark of the American right these days. American conservativism’s purpose is to conserve and to justify the continual gains of the left — yesterday’s liberal is today’s conservative.

Someone can come a long and start a rival to FB that allows different content. So I do not see it so much as censorship.

No, they can’t. That requires an extraordinary capital investment at this point. You’re absolutely not going to get that kind of money if you’re accused of allowing hatespeech on your platform — another form of tacit government control. And that “hatespeech” definition is a moving target. There is a reason why Unz was founded by a single wealthy man with means. Try to get money from Goldman Sachs these days and you’ll run up against their policy requiring a woman on your board; in the future, X number of other groups. Try to build any platform that excludes any part of the woke coalition and funds will be denied because they control the funds. Or maybe they use their media to dox and harass you. Or maybe the FBI shows up in comments, posts something awful (as they did with 4chan) and use that as justification in court documents to shut down your site.

Further, others have indeed tried to build alternatives only to find other corporations, including the media, have colluded against them — Gab, for instance. There are many other examples -> comics, videogames, etc. There. Is. No. Honor. In. Gracefully. Losing.

There has been an international crescendo of freedom suppression, colleges and universities are mass producing at least communist inclined output, teaching depravities in the name of freedom, the unity of the population has been greatly weakened, soy boys and soy men, masculine women, feminists and home-lesbo alliances have tremendously helped the destruction of society by destroying its unit structure, the family. At the very basic level families have been under attack, and at a relatively higher level, societies have been under attack with engineered mass immigration. That’s right, Roberts is notorious for cutting comments when he is challenged. He and Karlin are battling for the “We will tolerate no disagreement from readers” trophy. Roberts made an unacceptable comment to some readers about them not having the balls to use their own names when commenting and hiding behind their handles. I pointed out that this was an easy fix. All he had to do was insist the blog sites he serves require readers to submit 3 pieces of ID one of which should have a photo and be preapproved to comment. This solves his beef. However I pointed out to him HE would be out of a job. The fact is that he can also use a handle. There are many authors who use a different name and of course Hollywood is rife with the practice. Roberts also suggested/ insisted we listen to the “experts” but again I asked who were these experts ? They all disagree with each other. Does he mean HE is the expert and we should listen to him like obedient poodles because he is that self proclaimed hero ? I tried to get my comment posted 3 times but with moderation it disappeared.

Realist, if a writer does not want to defend their work then they should find another profession. There are lots of jobs available but they will find to their dismay that whatever work they do there is always someone who will criticise and hoist a person on their petard. Hence I am always stunned that people reveal the most intimate details of their life to people they dont even know AND get upset when they are “unfriended”. It is as though they have monopoly on what news and information should be spread should make everyone wonder what are they afraid of alternative news and views. Most importantly why are they trying to hide public from knowing the truth.

Normal human mind is capable of making decisions on its own if it does not have cognitive dissonance. YouTube and Twitter Censor Pharma Company Researching UV Light Treatment for Chinese Virus
Twitter and YouTube have censored AYTU BioScience, a publicly-traded Colorado-based pharmaceutical company, after it promoted ultraviolet (UV) light developed in conjunction with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center as a potential treatment for the Chinese virus. Twitter later reversed its censorship, saying the company’s account was “mistakenly” caught in a spam filter.

Now Twitter CENSORS Bio-Tech Conmpany’s UV Light Treatment Research After Trump Touted It
YouTube banned the company’s video last week

Following in lockstep with YouTube, Twitter suspended the account of a Colorado biotech company which is working to develop a potential coronavirus treatment using UV light inserted into the lungs. It appears that both social media sites have censored the legitimate research purely because President Trump mentioned it.

As I said in a comment on an earlier article, the balance of probabilities seems to me to lie in the accidental taking of the covid-19 virus to Wuhan by the US team to the World Military Games. The virus probably escaped from Fort Detrick (something did) and the team practiced for the games nearby. This scenario accounts for/explains almost everything that I have read about this event, except the abysmal performance of the US team. (I suppose it is just possible that most of them were suffering from covid-19 though not very probable.) However, even that sort of score, seems to be traditional, so perhaps it does not need to be accounted for?

Intelligence agencies – professional liars – face two conflicting challenges:

1.) maintaining the appearance of credibility and
    2.) lying

These two goals are in a constant tug-of-war, but they’re both “managed” by the same crowd. They’ve learned to spill some truth truth occasionally to keep people listening, while simultaneously accepting that being called liars can also work to their advantage – by increasing their credibility with people who know they’re being lied to.

I realize that’s the theory promoted by Chinese propaganda, but I just can’t see how it makes any logical sense at all…

Under normal conditions, Covid-19 is an *extremely* infectious virus. For example, it appears that just a tiny handful of infected individuals in the US during early January had produced an epidemic of over a million infections within a couple of months.

You seem to believe that the infections were already present in the US during October 2019 in sufficient numbers that they “just happened” to include a few Americans who went to Wuhan in the military games at that time. But if so, then probably a million or more Americans would have already been infected by the end of the year, and the resulting tens of thousands of American deaths would have been very noticeable by late December. By January, probably hundreds of thousands of Americans would have died.

How do you avoid those logical contradictions?

  232. @Bert

Sure! Fox news is a good, reliable, objective source to quote. As usual, the speaker said that the Chinese shut down their internal aviation “But continued to allow international flights out from Wuhan”, which is true in terms of bare facts, but leave out of account that these “international flights” were planes sent by various governments to evacuate their nationals from the dangerous situation in China. What were the Chinese authorities supposed to do? Tell them to piss off? “You can’t have them”? Can you imagine the reaction that would have caused in the West?

I hope I shall not be told that I am posting too many comments. I have only a limited time to reply. The US team may have not been infected immediately after the BL4 lab in Fort Detrick was closed down. Often when a virus infects a new host it takes time to adapt and it may be that it spread more slowly at first than later also if only one person was infected by a leak from the FD lab and infected only three or so others with a not unusual gestation period there would have been only a few people infected by the time the US team was practicing in the vicinity of the leaky lab. That ere may have been many more people infected than the official figures show does seem to be the case now. Apart from that there seem to have been infections in Europe, Taiwan and Japan rather earlier than it is easy to account for by infections from Chaina and they are, in any case, not the same strain. There are many, admittedly anecdotal, accounts of people who believe (in both Europe and the US) that they were infected with the covid-19 in the later months of last year.

  252. There is a curious passage in this article from Virology Journal from 2005 about the efficacy of HCQ and Chloroquine at dealing with SARS-COV (and likely SARS-COV-2):

Since chloroquine inhibited SARS-CoV infection when added before or after infection, we hypothesized that another common lysosomotropic agent, NH4Cl, might also function in a similar manner. Ammonium chloride has been widely used in studies addressing endosome-mediated virus entry. Coincidently, NH4Cl was recently shown to reduce the transduction of pseudotype viruses decorated with SARS-CoV spike protein [17,18]. In an attempt to examine if NH4Cl functions similarly to chloroquine, we performed infection analyses in Vero E6 cells before (Fig. (Fig.4A)4A) and after (Fig. (Fig.4B)4B) they were treated with various concentrations of NH4Cl. In both cases, we observed a 93–99% inhibition with NH4Cl at ≥ 5 mM. These data indicated that NH4Cl (≥ 5 mM) and chloroquine (≥ 10 μM) are very effective in reducing SARS-CoV infection. These results suggest that effects of chloroquine and NH4Cl in controlling SARS CoV infection and spread might be mediated by similar mechanism(s).

Perhaps what I said was misunderstood. Some writers like Karlin and Roberts do not like their work challenged. My feeling is this, if a writer does not like this then he should not write after all even world renowned authors have their critics whether well meaning or not and whether justified or not.

Therefore especially where these two are concerned when a reader vehemently disagrees or challenges the writer UR “moderates” the comments ie they are not published. My feeling is that RU should make it clear to them that there will be no censoring of any comments since the site promotes free speech. If said writers find that unacceptable then they are free to publish elsewhere. Other fellows like Gilad write and defend themselves AND their work even against the trolls who sometimes seem hell bent on mischief and getting people worked up.

Therefore I reiterate the site either promotes free speech or it does not. As such while Ron DOES for the most part allow anyone to speak freely this has to be so 100% and he needs to make that clear to ALL writers. Hence my comment that Ron cannot have it both ways. Either it is his site and he calls the shots or he starts allowing Tom Dick and Harry to censor challenges. If this continues as a trend then soon every writer will feel entitled to eliminate comments they deem unacceptable. At that point the site becomes like most others, you can say what you want but you waste time writing it as it will not be published.

I hope this clarifies what I meant to say.

  255. Erebus says:

Taipei officials said they reported this (human-human transmission) to both International Health Regulations (IHR), a WHO framework for exchange of epidemic prevention and response data between 196 countries, and Chinese health authorities on December 31.

The FT is lying. Taiwan did not report anything. They requested information.

Dec 31 was when the first lab report came back with the verdict “Corona virus”.

Last month, Taiwan said it had received no reply from the WHO to a December 31 query for information on the outbreak in Wuhan, including whether it could be transmitted between people.

The WHO has said the email it received made no mention of human-to-human transmission.

In Taipei on Saturday, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung quoted the text of the email written in English that the government sent to the WHO.

News resources today indicate that at least seven atypical pneumonia cases were reported in Wuhan, China,” Chen said, reading the email.

“Their health authorities replied to the media that the cases were believed not to be Sars [Severe acute respiratory syndrome], however the samples are still under examination, and cases have been isolated for treatment,” he continued.

“I would greatly appreciate if you have relevant information to share with us.”

In a statement on Saturday, the WHO said, “We have asked how they communicated this to us, because we are only aware of that one email that makes no mention of human-to-human transmission, but they haven’t replied.”

    https://news.rthk.hk/rthk/en/component/k2/1520148-20200411.htm

Look, it’s well established that that Wuhan/Hubei’s public health bureaucracy dropped the ball in December. Complacency and careerism are endemic to bureaucracies, and this was no exception. After Dec 31’s Lab Report, things moved rather quickly as it was escalated to the national level.

The Wit(less) House, meanwhile had reports from the NCMI starting in mid-Nov, and continuously through December. They were so concerned that meetings related to the outbreak were classified Top Secret, held in a secure room and its best public health experts were excluded.

Mr. Hack, free speech is free speech including the back and forth, foul language, name calling and so forth. Other UR readers can form their own conclusions but the site does say you can say what you want. Otherwise in my opinion it becomes like a Soviet environment where a single word can send you to the gulag. It is my experience that Russians do not like to be contradicted, called names, engage in back and forth or be the object of foul language. It seems to me that this was de rigeur under the Soviet system and Karlin may be a product of that. However I find that unacceptable. I am retired now but I rose to the top of the stack in my career turning around companies that were failures and I was well paid. There was a secret to doing this which was ANY employee could come and speak to me at ANYTIME and say exactly what they wanted. My experience is that anytime one inhibits free speech for any reason it always leads to suppression, resentment and then problems. I never liked what I heard sometimes and abhorred the names senior management was called but for the most part I think the people I listened to, some of them very belligerent from frustration, appreciated and respected me for just allowing them to say exactly what was on their mind. Was I successful ? I retired at the age of 35 ! That has been my experience. Others may have had different experiences and feel differently. That is their choice. Free speech is FREE speech.

PARIS — A French hospital which has retested old samples from pneumonia patients discovered that it treated a man who had COVID-19 as early as Dec. 27, nearly a month before the French government confirmed its first cases.

Yves Cohen, head of resuscitation at the Avicenne and Jean Verdier hospitals in the northern suburbs of Paris, told BFM TV that scientists had retested samples from 24 patients treated in December and January who tested negative for the flu.

“Of the 24, we had one who was positive for COVID-19 on Dec. 27,” he told the news channel on Sunday.

We also know that one of the cooperating institutions [to Wuhan BSL4]was Harvard, and that the chairman of the Harvard chemistry department, [Dr. Charles Lieber], a specialist in nanotechnology, set up an entire laboratory in Wuhan where [according to reports]he specialized in applying nanotechnology to chemistry and biology.

My guess is, based on what I’ve read in the literature, that they tried to weaponize all that together. And that is SARS-CoV-2 that we are dealing with now. So, it’s SARS, which is genetically engineered biowarfare agent to begin with. Second, it has gain-of-function properties, which makes it more lethal, more infectious. It has HIV in there. That was confirmed by an Indian scientist … and it looks like nanotechnology [has been used]… An MIT scientist who did a study found that it traveled 27 feet through the air. And that, I guess, was in lab conditions.

That, I think, is why it’s so infectious, and that is what I believe we are dealing with here …

Is there a study that has assessed all these tests and concluded their reliability? Like a table of tests, what type and produced by whom, with their percentage efficiency reported. But then there could be a problem knowing who really has Covid-19 and who has just the flu. So they’d have to test for flu too and if negative for it but experiencing the symptoms they’d have to conclude that the patient has Covid-19 and then see whether the Covid-19 tests detect it or not. Shouldn’t be too difficult to conduct.

It will be interesting to see the numbers next week.

Calm yourself down. That is a terrible example re: Bakery. FB cannot ban anyone for being gay or black, and a bakery cannot refuse to sell a cake to a gay person. But if someone comes into the bakery and asks them to bake a cake and put “fuck everyone in the ass” on their cake they can refuse they have a right as a company to control the contents of their product, maybe not the people they sell it to.
Every business to a set of guidelines that they feel match their business plan and moral obligations, to gain the trust of the consumer who is buying their product.

Facebook is a social, not a political platform. It is for friends and family to share their lives with, from all over the world. It is about connections, not about political manifestos, therefore the people that join FB have trust that the company will provide content that is not destructive to them or their children. If you want to go to a political platform their are sites for that, like here on UR. People do not like anarchy, dystopian ideas, conspiracy theories that are racially motivated, or frightening. That is a fair exchange for a company to make for people to sign on with their friends and family. That is what FB is as a company a place for friends and family.

FB therefore has a right to ban content which they deem destructive to their product and image. They cannot ban people but they can ban content. Huge difference to bakery sales to gays.
People feel frightened by Covid. FB does not want to publish conspiracy theories about the government plotting against its citizens.

Lets face it the internet did not turn out like we had hoped, and it has created huge problems, that need to be dealt with in a reasonable way. You cannot just claim freedom of speech. People are easily manipulated. The internet has a negative dystopian side to it, and has created and planted dangerous misinformation to gullible people, and in some caused mass murders to feel validated.
There is a reckoning coming. It is just the beginning of banning content. Get used to it.

  277. @Fran Taubman

Facebook is a social, not a political platform.

I don’t know if that is explicitly stated. It is also a business platform and encourages businesses to use it. I’m sure it is also used for political purposes but FB decides which it will allow and which it will ban. I don’t use it so I don’t know much about it. But sure, if it was exclusively what you stated, that it is for friends and family to exchange photos and personal messages then I’d have no problem if they banned all business, politics, religion, or whatever else, but I don’t think that’s possible either.

FB does not want to publish conspiracy theories about the government plotting against its citizens.

So they’re not the government but work for the government yet don’t want to act as a government utility.

    People are easily manipulated.

Sure, and governments and MSM, FB, etc. are the major manipulators banning dissenting voices to be heard.

The internet has a negative dystopian side to it, and has created and planted dangerous misinformation to gullible people, and in some caused mass murders to feel validated.

The biggest mass murderers are the governments and they are given a platform to spread their lies on all MSM and the Internet, including Colin Powell shaking a vial of white powder in the UN, a lie and fake news that resulted in more deaths, chaos, dystopia in the Middle East than any lunatic spree killer. I know that’s the way of the world but people should have a right to point out their lies and conspiracies without being banned or harassed for it, at least in so-called democracies. They even banned David Icke who only wants to save planet Earth from those evil alien elites from outer space who plan to cull humanity – nice show.

There is a reckoning coming. It is just the beginning of banning content. Get used to it.

I see you’ll be happy about it – uncork the champagne!

Dozens of Palestinians logged into their Facebook accounts on 4 May, only to find out their pages were no longer active.

In the space of one day, more than 50 Palestinian journalists and activists had their profile pages deleted by Facebook, alongside a notification saying their pages had been deactivated for “not following our Community Standards.”

“We have already reviewed this decision and it can’t be reversed,” the message continued, prompting users to read more about Facebook’s Community Standards. …

    https://about.fb.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/April-2020-CIB-Report.pdf

If you use Ctrl-F to search for “unz” you’ll discover that we were allegedly banned for being “associated” with the anti-immigration website VDare, which was also banned at the same time. I find this quite unlikely.

Although we do republish VDare articles, the fraction of our total content that represents has been steadily dropping over the years, and is probably down to just 2% or so these days. Moreover, according to Alexa our traffic has been a dozen times greater than that of VDare, making it unlikely that we were banned merely as a sidebar to their purge.

Indeed, since immigration issues have been totally pushed aside by the deadly disease epidemic, I can’t even remember the last time we ran something in that area as a main feature.

By contrast, our coverage of the deadly Coronavirus epidemic has been overwhelming for the last couple of months, and my own most popular article—both in traffic and Facebook likes—outlined the considerable circumstantial evidence that America’s current disaster was the result of an American biowarfare attack against China (and Iran).

With Facebook under enormous pressure to ban all “Coronavirus conspiracy theories,” this is the obvious reason for our removal. But admitting that fact would obviously be counter-productive, so rather ridiculous claims about VDare were instead used as an excuse.

Facebook only wants the Jewish line fed to the masses, they don’t want free association of people discussing openly and without constraint Jewish control. Facebook is a monopoly with vast political power, it is not free enterprise, it is a system of surveillance in league with governments seeking the de facto overthrow of the rights of citizens.

Many of them are jumping for joy that immigration has stopped as a side effect of the pandemic (supposing it is merely a side effect). They keep their humanitarian aura intact and their problem is solved, both at the same time.

To have used the immigration issue as an excuse for banning you at this precise moment has a perversity all its own. And I wonder if they haven’t banned VDARE for the sole purpose of making that excuse stick.

If that sentence makes sense to you that is my point. I support myself with my art. So in the most real sense I am a real artist. It is not a hobby. It is in important collections all over the world. If you do not like it that is fine. But I am a real artist.

When gangsters plan a crime through cell phones, you can’t sue the phone company for damages nor charge them as conspirators. Phone company is simply a carrier. They don’t control the content of the conversations of their clients.

When a mechanic makes claim about the safety of your car, and if the car was involved in an accident subsequently, the mechanic is potentially liable for damages or even criminal negligence. This is because he is the only person responsible for his statement.

Tech companies like FB, google, twitter etc are trying to have the best of both worlds. FB wants to censor users’ contents, google actively manipulates their search results and twitter removes undesirable accounts. They are explicitly admitting they look at the contents of the users or third parties, and make DECISIONS on them. Having gone down the slippery slope, they will lose the legal arguments that they are simply carriers like AT&T – which has no “community standards” for their clients. The First Amendment only limits governmental actors—federal, state, and local—but there are good reasons why this should be changed. Certain powerful private entities—particularly social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and others—can limit, control, and censor speech as much or more than governmental entities. A society that cares for the protection of free expression needs to recognize that the time has come to extend the reach of the First Amendment to cover these powerful, private entities that have ushered in a revolution in terms of communication capabilities. 353. @Ron Unz

This is a different take compared to my previous reply.

The Facebook document you linked to does not say that the contents of either VDARE or Unz were the cause for their being banned. They are accusing VDARE and Unz of ‘inauthentic behavior’, i.e., association with fake accounts and robots.

    Here’s the relevant excerpt:

The people behind this network used fake accounts to create fictitious personas, post in Groups, manage Pages, drive traffic to off-platform sites, and evade enforcement. They frequently posted about US news and topics including the US President, ideologies recognized as far-right, and anti-immigration content. Most recently, this network shared COVID-19-related conspiracies and hate speech about Asian Americans.
We found this activity as part of our proactive investigations into suspected coordinated inauthentic
behavior in the US ahead of the 2020 election. Although the people behind this operation attempted to conceal their coordination, our investigation linked this network to VDARE, a website known for posting anti-immigration content, and to individuals associated with a similar website The Unz Review. We continue to monitor and will take additional action if we see other violations of our Community Standards.
    ● Presence on Facebook: 19 Pages, 15 Facebook accounts, and 1 Group
    ● Followers: About 207,700 accounts followed one or more of these Pages and about 20
    accounts joined this Group.
    ● Advertising: Around $114,000 in spending for ads on Facebook paid for in US dollars.

Note that they mention “hate speech about Asian Americans”. Though, as I remarked earlier, it’s not stated that content was the cause for banning, I don’t remember a single article published by Unz with that kind of “hate speech”. It is a predominantly pro-China site. John Derbyshire is the only anti-China guy here I can remember, but of course he is definitely not anti “Asian Americans”, seeing as he is married to one.

  354. @Commentator Mike

You cannot show photos of dead children and say the IDF killed them. It would be like me saying the Nazis killed them. All of these memes and photos of violence is to me very stupid.
The IDF does not kill children, that are not threatening soldiers or civilians. Look at the death toll of Arabs since 1948. About 25,000 in 70 plus years while every life is important and death tragic. How many children died in Syria or Yemen in one year? Or by the Nazis?
You cannot just say something and post a photo. So
much written about Israel is lies.

If Iris wants to post an article about the death of a child I am all ears. If you were to visit Israel you will see this is a lie. While life is not perfect. There are checkpoints etc. in the West Bank there is very little violence (not so with Gaza) you will see Religious Jews and Arabs on the streets and in malls together.
People that make accusations need to back them up.

  355. @Commentator Mike

The Arab population of Israel has quadrupled since the founding of Israel. By contrast the Jewish population of Europe practically wiped out. Millions of lost lives. The Jewish population of Poland went from 3 million to 300,000 during the Nazi era. Get a fucking life before you compare Israel to Nazis.

Ahem! Who’s backing Saudi Arabia in their atrocious war against the Houthis in Yemen? The golem United States of Zion, that’s who.

And why is Israel’s golem backing SA? It’s in the fulfilment of the Jewish state’s grand plan, as outlined in Oded Yinon’s Plan and PNAC’s A Clean Break Plan:

Act I – crush the Sunni regimes (Iraq and Libya) still having the temerity to support the Palestinian people in resisting the ruthless occupation of their historic lands

Act II – take a Sunni turn by switching sides and attacking the Shia Arc (Hezbollah, Syria, Iran) still having the temerity to support the Palestinian people in resisting the ruthless occupation of their historic lands

Act III – push Saudi Arabia (the leader of the Sunni coalition) to confront Iran (the leader of the Shia coalition) in a Hundred Years’ War, where both sides bleed to death, while Jewish Supremacists expand Eretz Israel

But, rather than disclose this grand plan to the dumb goyim, Fran feigns grief over the death of 85,000 Arab children.

But if you were to inject her with a truth serum, and put the same question to her that was put to Madeleine Albright (born Marie Jana Korbelová), she’d give you the same response about the killing of 500,000 Arab children:

Leslie Stahl of 60 Minutes – “We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?”

Madeleine Albright – “I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.

I wonder who the “we” was in that sentence?

So, don’t let Frannie fool you. While she perceives herself as another Queen Esther, whose purpose in life is to protect her people against the evil goyim who are out to kill all her people, she suffers from the same ailment as most of her co-religionists… a lack of self-awareness.

It’s very obvious what is going on: When attempting censorship, especially in a country with a first amendment, a convenient candidate to set a precedent must be found. At first it was Holocaust denial on YouTube which was expanded to all Neo-Nazi material, then all original 3rd Reich music, films and original Hitler speeches with accurate subtitles and finally anything critical of Jewish influence and power will be deleted. Just as Holocaust denial laws were used as a precedent for Anti-BDS laws. Step by step we arrived at: “Anti-Zionism is Anti-Semitism” and who ever critics the Jews is a HATER and has to be deplatformed. Locked away, if the law allows it.

Now Covid-19 gave the opportunity to shut down those disagreeing with the MSM, government and government owned MSM. Disagreement with them is linked to disagreeing with your doctor. And in the circumstance of a pandemic, disagreeing with the health experts and spreading “fake news”, which allegedly kills people, is equated to disagreeing with “hate speech experts” and spreading “conspiracy theories”. Feeding the self-serving lie of the censors and actual oppressors and his SJW cohorts: “Your speech kills!” And it’s been a long goal to equate Holocaust denial and criticism of Jewish power with flat earth and hate. “The laws are there to protect you for your own good.”, says Big Brother with the small hat and those who serve him. And the Noahide laws warn us of their end game.

And just like in the Soviet Union those in opposition to the state were locked away in psychiatric wards, we too are declared insane and will have to be dealt with accordingly. In these last days of the USSA.

But are these crazy liberals or crazy leftists? They are neither. They are traitors first and foremost. It’s a Soviet like managerial class of opportunists who want to become the elite over the masses, or rather its servants. They are enemies of the people. And everything leads to Jewish power and its absolute stranglehold over the USA and the so called “West”, its vassal states, by proxy.

Agreed. There are various camouflages – liberal, leftist, free markets, free trade, free movement of capital, freedom from borders and the use of generic “freedom” in the “land of the free” .

In fact, there is so much freedom, that it’s just like the Soviet Union. Freedom from capitalists, freedom from class oppressors, freedom from exploitation, freedom from private ownership, freedom from dissident troublemakers and freedom from what some people (previously and mistakenly) thought was freedom.

Finally it’s all a self serving and meaningless dialectic. An elite is an elite. They are busy ring fencing their power and rooting out opposition.

However, on the positive side, they are (as always), greatly outnumbered and risk being swamped by dissidents – particularly when they use state violence to protect their power (an inevitable end-game feature).
