The following graph shows net support for Black Lives Matter (BLM) by selected demographics:

Retrograde Republicans are predictably stuck in the past, hidebound hicks hankering for the halycon days when heartlessly harking about all lives mattering wasn’t a hate crime.

Young women with doctoral degrees make the best allies:

But you already knew that:

It goes without saying that old Republican white men, in contrast, are the most deplorable allies of all. They’re enemies, one might say–and act.

  1. Be curious to about two things:

    1) How “Hispanics” and “others” breaks down via ethnic group and region. Bet there’s a lot more theoretical support for BLM (until they reach the gated communities, of course) amongst South Asians than East or Southeast Asians, for example.

    2) If the sex gap is as radical for other groups. If less than half of all women total support BLM and 83% of white women do, then I’m guessing not.

Support has increased in the past weeks though, it wasn't always like that.

A few IQ points is nowhere near significant enough to explain that gap.

There is something else going on.

Young women with doctoral degrees make the best allies:

Which isn't saying much. Cue the NYT and WAPO kvetching about how complicit we are with our men in their racism sometime in the next couple of days. Of course, they will actually be correct in their assessment that White women are unreliable allies on the best of days and unworthy of membership in any coalition of the fringes. 100% minus 31% equals 69% against BLM, i.e. an overwhelming majority. Whaddaya mean girls can't do math?

In any event, the academy is hardly particularly hospitable to conservatives nowadays, is it?

"To educate" means "to give intellectual, moral, and social instruction to (someone, especially a child), typically at a school or university." https://www.lexico.com/en/definition/educate

An alternative definition is "to persuade or condition to feel, believe, or act in a desired way." https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/educate

Thus, being "educated" is nothing good by itself. It just means you have been given more instructions in how to believe what you are supposed to. Education is like anything else: Garbage in, garbage out. And American higher education is mostly just pumping toxic garbage into America's intellectual bloodstream. It's about as useful in the search for truth as being "educated" in an Islamic Madrassa.

As Reagan use to say: “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so.” This bon mot is infinitely more apt for the new generation of Woketards than it was for Reagan's old "Liberal friends."

  8. I’m surrounded by Europeans, the vast majority of whom find BLM to be a divisive expression; when they ask me why All Lives don’t matter, they are surprised when I tell them that that is a racist phrase they should dare not utter. These are, of course, the naïve native Europeans, who still don’t appreciate all of the evil they have loosed upon the world, but apologise for it nevertheless.

  9. As an aged “Republican” — I much prefer “Reactionary Traditionalist” — I am happy to see where I am located. I have been “there” for over 40+ years, having left the “big R tent” when I realized it was just the opposite side of the same, worthless, Unitary-Party’s federal reserve coin. Such graphs confirm the effects of our shameful public schools systems and the influences of this sewer of a “culture” we have allowed to develop. All of this does not bode well; and all of this will not end well.

There must also be a lot of selection bias at work in who ends up with advanced social science degrees. Academia is so monolithically leftist that anyone with a contrary view is not going to stay in that culture any longer than necessary. And there is no financial return in obtaining an advanced degree in those fields.

So who is going to end up with those degrees? Basically, social justice warriors who have trust funds (or diversity scholarships), and who either hate the private sector, or can't cut it there. Not a good recipe for honest scholarship.

So yeah, beyond a certain point the more degreed you are, the more functionally stupid you are.

I agree with that statement up to a point. I think I might change it to read...the more degrees you have the more the chances are you have been brainwashed.

I also like to add that people with B.A. degrees are much more likely to be brainwashed than people with science degrees.

And, if one manages to obtain a PhD in something, the odds go up that he is going to find employment teaching at University. I tend to see this as somewhat of a "tail chasing" lifestyle. You spend your life in a cocoon regurgitating those "facts" you were taught without having too much interaction with the real world. This tends to produce people that know more and more about less and less and almost nothing about the real world.

And finally, it has been my observation that almost without exception those that think degrees are useless and have disdain for them are people that don't have degrees. So, sour grapes. You can take that for what ever you believe it's worth but if I may quote Twain. " I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."

For example, Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were high IQ intellectuals. However, their ideas were cosmically stupid -- and obviously so to the average shopkeeper. Likewise, your high-IQ SJW professors believe that blacks are systematically hunted and killed by evil whites. BLM is making a parallel argument to the Covid 19 Lockdown argument. Which now looks like an overreaction. But the main element that was both illogical, emotional, and mindless was that the only consideration was human life. So what if it cost $20 B/Week, life is priceless.

If only hopelessly comorbid Americans over 80 (and POC) were dying of Covid 19, it couldn't be seriously discussed. True or not. So what is more logical then opening society to protest a single death?

Covid19 is a mysterious virus. Structural racism is miasma. It is also the invisible enemy. Never mind it is simply an untestable theory.

Everyone was sick of the lockdown, but social protest over racism was the convenient cause that was more urgent. More life affirming. More satisfying. And devoid of any content other than sentimentalism.

I don't think IQ immunizes you to horrible ideas at all, and it certainly does not give you common sense. The closest thing we've ever had in human history to a government dominated by academics was the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, who got their ideas as student radicals in 1950s Paris. Nor is this limited to left-wing ideology: a majority of the people at the Wannsee Conference and 3 out of the 4 commanders of the Einsatzgruppen held doctorates.

As I've mentioned once before, one of the ironies of having a lower IQ is being less able to contradict empirical experience. Misinformation is a different story, but for things you have direct, daily experience with, you are unable to engage in the high-level abstractions and rationalizations that higher IQ people do to justify ideological dogma. Unfortunately, those with a lower IQ also typically lack the verbal ability to convey their incredulity at nonsensical boutique ideas in a way that doesn't leave them open to mockery by their cognitive superiors. So most either mouth the platitudes and try not to think about it, or keep quiet and vent at the bar.

    , @Justvisiting
    @Hypnotoad666

A lot of the high IQ folks really care about justice and follow an ideology that promises to deliver it.

They tend to have the resources to stay away from dangerous areas and situations.

Average IQ folks have to live in the real world where there is Just Us--and they learn quickly that they must never trust any authority figures. The politicians and media are always p*&^ing on them and telling them its raining.

BLM is making a parallel argument to the Covid 19 Lockdown argument. Which now looks like an overreaction. But the main element that was both illogical, emotional, and mindless was that the only consideration was human life. So what if it cost $20 B/Week, life is priceless.

If only hopelessly comorbid Americans over 80 (and POC) were dying of Covid 19, it couldn’t be seriously discussed.

Don’t bother taking this frenzy as a serious interest in reform.

A few IQ points is nowhere near significant enough to explain that gap.

Young women with doctoral degrees make the best allies:

Which isn’t saying much. I don't think that's what the graph means. Isn't it net support, i.e. percentage for minus percentage against? So 65.5% for minus 34.5% against would yield 31% net support. It looks to me like somewhere between 3/5 and 2/3 of white women support this farce.

As you think people with Phd's in English or History have lower average IQs than high school dropouts shows that your ideology is just as corrupt and false as that of liberals.

Liberals think that race and biological sex aren't real. Your side only thinks its real when the gap is in favor of white people and men.

Neither side of the political divide actually believe in science or facts, which are inherently apolitical.

Support for BLM is a mile wide and an inch deep. No one is prepared for a conversation on race and are delighted that it is can be avoided. Most notable has been the extent of growth in the cancel culture to enforce the narrative.

Structural Racism is the new miasma theory explaining the failure of a half century of concessions to advance black people.

The fact that so much energy is devoted to what amounts to virtually nothing leads me to believe that it is not what it appears to be. Younger people are revolting against the lockdown. They had their paid staycation. And this seems to be the lowest common denominator that can unite the woke coalition. The less detailed, the better. The Democratic primary failed when it came to details.

Plus young vs old. A big part of it.

Yep. If you put yourself in the shoes of Young Whites with no prospects, it’s really not that hard to imagine how they could come to the conclusion that they might as well lock arms with disaffected blacks. Older generations of Whites certainly have given them no reason to do otherwise.

Young Whites all up and down the social hierarchy see TPTB treating them like shit. Why would they suppose it’s any better for black and brown folks?

The average sociology Phd is still smarter than the average high school dropout, high school graduate with no further education, college dropout, and associate’s degree holder.

Your buzzwords about “functional stupidity” and “common sense” are just as moronic as when liberals make all sorts of excuses and buzzwords for black and hispanic underachievement.

Anon -- I think you may be proving "Steve in Greensboro's" point. You don't define your own term of "smarter." Maybe you think "smarter" just means having a higher IQ. You are undoubtedly right that professors on average have higher IQs than average people.

But SIG's point is that if someone says and believes stupid things they are "functionally stupid" regardless of their IQ. You haven't refuted that in the slightest.

For example, Marx, Lenin and Trotsky were high IQ intellectuals. However, their ideas were cosmically stupid -- and obviously so to the average shopkeeper. Likewise, your high-IQ SJW professors believe that blacks are systematically hunted and killed by evil whites. Whereas anyone with average intelligence and access to Google can look up the numbers to refute that myth in about 15 minutes.

As a noted philosopher once said "stupid is, as stupid does." And high-IQ functional idiots saying and doing stupid things are on display everywhere.

P.S., A lot of what appears to be "functional stupidity" is undoubtedly just intellectual dishonesty. But they are either stupid or liars, so pick your poison.

    Replies: @nebulafox, @Justvisiting

I don’t think IQ immunizes you to horrible ideas at all, and it certainly does not give you common sense. The closest thing we’ve ever had in human history to a government dominated by academics was the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia, who got their ideas as student radicals in 1950s Paris. Nor is this limited to left-wing ideology: a majority of the people at the Wannsee Conference and 3 out of the 4 commanders of the Einsatzgruppen held doctorates.

As I’ve mentioned once before, one of the ironies of having a lower IQ is being less able to contradict empirical experience. Misinformation is a different story, but for things you have direct, daily experience with, you are unable to engage in the high-level abstractions and rationalizations that higher IQ people do to justify ideological dogma. Unfortunately, those with a lower IQ also typically lack the verbal ability to convey their incredulity at nonsensical boutique ideas in a way that doesn’t leave them open to mockery by their cognitive superiors. So most either mouth the platitudes and try not to think about it, or keep quiet and vent at the bar.

I'm sure you'd agree that IQ is not equivalent to common sense. Some of the least well-adjusted, least well functioning people we know have the highest IQs.

I'm sure you'd agree that PhDs in English, History or any of the Angry Studies are not really very demanding of either IQ or common sense. Mostly obtaining those degrees requires being able to parrot the cult-Marx party line.

So yeah, beyond a certain point the more degreed you are, the more functionally stupid you are.

So yeah, beyond a certain point the more degreed you are, the more functionally stupid you are.

I agree with that statement up to a point. I think I might change it to read…the more degrees you have the more the chances are you have been brainwashed.

I also like to add that people with B.A. degrees are much more likely to be brainwashed than people with science degrees.

And, if one manages to obtain a PhD in something, the odds go up that he is going to find employment teaching at University. I tend to see this as somewhat of a “tail chasing” lifestyle. You spend your life in a cocoon regurgitating those “facts” you were taught without having too much interaction with the real world. This tends to produce people that know more and more about less and less and almost nothing about the real world.

And finally, it has been my observation that almost without exception those that think degrees are useless and have disdain for them are people that don’t have degrees. So, sour grapes. You can take that for what ever you believe it’s worth but if I may quote Twain. ” I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.”

Net support is "Support" - "Oppose" with neither of "Neither support or oppose" or "Unsure" considered. Here is the sex breakdown for whites.

    Sex | Support | Oppose | Neither | Unsure
    Male | 37% | 38% | 24% | 2%
    Female | 53% | 24% | 22% | 2%

If you then click on Male (or Female) you can look at the crosstabs for the white/sex subgroups. For men there is (unsurprisingly) a dramatic split by political party with significant but less dramatic trends by age and education. White women have similar trends.
