We’re cautiously optimistic that a very unexpected health scare in the family has abated. I’d worried it would be disruptive for far longer than it has been, so I should’ve just kept my fingers still. Anyway, the kind comments were genuinely heart-warming. Thanks very much.

The blog will be on indefinite hiatus due to personal reasons. Apologies for the abruptness.

  1. Hope all turns out well – God speed.

    Peace.

  2. Prayers for you and yours, AE!

    • Agree: Hail
  3. Very sad to hear this. Wish you the best!

  4. Hope you and your family are okay.

  5. Prayer and faith are essential in times of difficulty, whatever the cause.

I rely on it. In fact, I find that the weaker people, those who are buffeted about most, are weak and buffeted because they lack faith to turn to. The strongest people are strong in large part due to faith.

I even thank God specifically and repeatly for a hardship, challenge, suffering or defeat I must swallow in the view that suffering is, in a way, sacred and divine. That is my light in the darkest moments.

  6. Sorry to hear that. I hope all turns out well.

I’ve been a long-time admirer of your work and writing, partly because you strike me as a true peer in the dissonant right blogosphere or whatever non-antiquated term you want to use. This is my first comment, and since it may be my last too, I want to thank you for the work you’ve done over the last few years.

Prayers for whatever resolution of these personal issues is needed.

    Pseudonymous Al

  7. Send me a note if you need anything.

  8. Thank you all very much. The kindness is deeply appreciated.

We definitely need you. Your country needs you. Please don't stay away too long, if you can help it.

I wish you well, and hope you return soon. Your civility and data-based analysis shall be missed.
  9. I’m also very sad to hear that you won’t be posting again soon. Please don’t stay away too long. You truly are the rising star of The Unz Review. John Derbyshire did a great service to many of us by making us aware of your internet writing.

  10. Hope you get your life back on track soon.

    Don’t stay away too long.

    Kia kaha, mate.

  11. I hope everything works out for you.

I ‘m an Indian-American and have been reading your posts with interest for some time, and I applaud your courage and clarity. Although I grew up having quite liberal beliefs w/r/t race relations, your writing (along with others in the HBD/dissident right sphere) has changed my mind.

Hope to see you back in action before long. My very best wishes to you and your family.

  13. I also hope to see you back on here soon, A.E., both for the reason that I enjoy your writing and the conversing, but more importantly, as that it’d mean you and your family are A-OK. I will keep a look-out for you. Sincere best wishes.

  14. Oh no, I hope it isn’t health related. I wish you the best.

  15. Come back when ready. Just know that you are needed!

We’re all in it for the long haul.

    • Agree: Dan Hayes
  16. Your data analysis in general and graphs in particular will be sorely missed. Hopefully your absence will not be for long!

    • Agree: Peter Johnson, Talha
  17. I will PRAY for you [translating: i will leave some of my good vaibrations directly, literally to you, KIND AND WISE guy]

  18. I’d like to take this moment to thank you for all you’ve done.

I’ll wait for your next post, as long as it takes.

  20. Oh Audie! Say it isn’t so, please please say it’s not so. Since your announcement I’ve been crying myself to sleep. I can’t begin to imagine an Unz Review without my Audie. You’ve been the beacon of light in the darkness of my despair.

    WTF? This isn’t Facebook.

You gone yet? Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out. (Is he gone?) Okay everyone, now we can finally talk about the school marm before the substitute teacher gets here..

Seriously, or as much as I can muster, “personal reasons” in my experience always means something bad. I have a lifetime of experience in bad shit happening and from that personal font of wisdom I can authoritatively tell you (1) bad shit happens and (2) it won’t be the last time. The good news is that when bad shit happens you begin to learn the fundamental difference between friends and acquaintances. And after enough decades of bad shit happening you learn to just roll with it. The first catastrophe is always the hardest.

So, no insincere platitudes, life for the rest of us will go on as before, venting our spleens in pixels on Unz as therapy to keep us from self-harm. For you things may suck for a while, but you’ll either adjust or become a socialist. Assuming the former, if you want a non-sympathetic ear from someone who’s been there and done that, you can reach me at the email I use when posting comments (or if Ron hasn’t given you access to that, he, Sailer, Reed, Derbyshire, and the NSA can provide it to you with my permission). Beyond my almost certainly worthless advice, I doubt that there is anything I can do to help – but feel free to ask anyway, misery loves company.

Now where’s the sad face emoticon button?

Are you a dick in real life too or is it just on the Internet where someone can’t punch you in the face?

I once had a conversation with a black friend at work. He said that x was a racist and was hostile to him. Since I had inside knowledge, I confidently told him that he was wrong and that x was not a racist; he just doesn't like you because you are you. Think about it.

I've been telling your mother that for years.

I wondered if someone was trying to wreck you IRL for your views. Too many have that problem. Glad that isnt the case. Glad you are back. You are too valuable. There has been more truth on this blog over time than all of Americans social studies departments collectively. In large part because the latter are committed to hiding and destroying knowledge rather than create it. Organizing your historical content would be a very worthy project.

  29. We’re cautiously optimistic that a very unexpected health scare in the family has abated.

Glad to hear it. I hope it wasn’t one of the little ones.

Before I had children, when I saw a tragedy involving a child in a film, I’d think to myself “Oh, that’s terrible,” but it didn’t affect me emotionally much. Once I had children of my own, I am terribly hit emotionally when I see scenes of children suffering even in a make-believe movie. Parenthood changes you. It shatters your sense of invulnerability and makes you realize that you need a civilization to keep them safe. At least it did for me.

To quote Princess Bride, “Get some rest. If you haven’t got your health, you haven’t got anything.”

    Yes it does.

I did not "visualize punching him," I merely to tried to ascertain whether he was someone who is always, everywhere a jackass or someone who pipes down in person, but has Internet courage.
