White progressives like pointing out that by nominating Biden over Sanders, the party has ensured no one is going to vote for the Democrat presidential nominee. Instead, they’ll vote against Trump.

Well, that ignorance is spoken from a place of privilege. It otherizes the lived experience of black bodies that have been eager to support Joe from the get go:

Parenthetically, this highlights what an absurd electoral strategy trumpeting all the good things Trump’s administration has allegedly done for black Americans is. Focusing on the people who went to Hell and back to get you elected–losing jobs, friendships, even family along the way–would be your best bet. But if you’re dead set on trying to convert erstwhile opponents into future supporters, at least target the ones motivated by your perceived mistakes rather than squandering all your energy on people happy with their guy and uninterested in what you have to say.

  1. as one of those aggrieved Leftists, my beef is less with the actual candidate and more with the wisdom of having a primary process that makes the “Aunt Jemima strategy” Game Theory Optimal. starting in lily-white Iowa and New Hampshire doesn’t make a whole ton of sense, but following that with Deep Southern states that will never ever *EVER* Vote Blue and making them kingmakers seems even dumber. why not start with your Michigans and Ohios of the world (which, btw, Joe might have won/Bernie might have lost even if it were first…so be it)

that said while Joe is, y’know, an obviously senile Neoliberal/Globalist who was never especially smart to begin with, he doesn’t inspire the same visceral hatred Hillary did. there’s definitely a goofiness and a certain kind of charm underneath the drool (related aside: The Onion did more positive work for Joe Biden’s image than any PR firm ever could) whereas Hil was completely irredeemable.

this is why i’ve wagered money on Joe. given how severely polarized the electorate, “negative partisanship” is one of the most important factors in modern era competitive elections and i don’t believe Joe triggers anywhere near the energy to vote against as Hil.

Smart Republicans would "McGovernize" Biden. Remember, George McGovern wasn't all that radical himself-- he was elected from South Dakota, after all. It was all the lefty nutcases his antiwar stance-- a conservative stance, by the way-- attracted the Nixon camp could utilize in their campaign.

Yeah especially when he has his hands on little girls and his nose in their hair, and then when he is blabbering nonsense such as : 160 million Americans have died from corona, or when he is manifesting phoney "jobs" for his offspring from a position of political power.

I agree with the last two thirds of your comment. I just want to point out that if Dems don't like their primaries, they can change them to be however they want. It's not like federal law is holding them in the current configuration. It's just party custom. So just run a referendum in CA and NY and be done with it already. Or maybe that would be a little too transparent as to how democratic are the Democrats.

Florida and Illinois are the two most demographically representative states in the country. One is reliably blue, one is a battleground. Beginning with these two would probably be the best way to find a candidate energizing Democrats and attractive to independents.

  2. trumpeting all the good things Trump’s administration has allegedly done for black Americans

I always thought that was directed at certain white voters, not blacks.

Ironically, the only way that black support MAY be achieved is by not reaching out to them at all - ie, being real.

If Trump stayed as Trump he would have increased his black male support for 2020. "Ayo dawg, dis n*gga fo' real". Because he was.

His constant pandering makes him look like a pussy (to blacks) and annoys his base which is 90% white. I would like to know how white male unemployment is looking? All I hear about is record low Hispanic American, Asian America, black, and woman unemployment from him.

And an old cracker like Mitch MicConnel "reaching out" to blacks is probably worse than doing nothing. As usual, whites don't understand how the rest of the (more tribally minded) world operates.

The problem with this comparison is that by 1972, the Vietnam War had become peripheral to the lives of most Americans. In 1967, '68, and '69, 10,000+ boys were coming home in body bags each year. By '72, the number was under 1,000. Ground combat operations ceased in late 1971, and the last combat troops would leave in the late summer of '72. Most Americans were satisfied enough with how Nixon was winding things down, so the Vietnam-centric DNC attacks flopped.

(Re: McGovern-the attacks against him as some out of control peacenik were pretty unfair considering his admirable WWII record. He actually ran a pretty clever primary campaign, but completely botched the general election by allowing such a focus on a failing issue. Not that I think it would have mattered: Nixon was going to beat anybody that year. This is something that neoliberals in the DNC really don't want discussed as a way of continuing to justify the necessity of managerial centric policies while they work on making the party completely gentry class dominated.)

Trump will have no such luck if the Democrats decide to go after his handling of the coronavirus or his basic competence as an administrator, over which most Americans are (justifiably) not satisfied. That the DNC ideological milieu is primarily responsible for the current surge is true, but ultimately irrelevant. Trump's the one in charge, and he botched the initial response badly.

  14. I wonder how these numbers might be different, if Trump merely spoke with a refined accent and used intellectual vocabulary.

I also wonder if the numbers would be nudged, at all, if he had an obvious Jewish name, like “Goldberg”, and spoke with a Brooklyn accent. I mean, it’s impossible to miss all the cases of “Drumpf.” Sometimes, there is an umlaut in there, and even with a touchscreen, it seems like an odd amount of effort, for people who likely have not the slightest knowledge of German.

That is an insightful question, Songbird — whether Trump’s numbers would be better if he spoke with a Brooklyn accent. I can’t account for Fauci’s and Cuomo’s high credibility otherwise — in a frightening medical emergency, people trust a New York City accent.

It *sounds* funny. Think of all the negative words that start with 'd'--'dumb', 'dead', 'dolt', 'dotard' (a favorite lately on the left), 'defective', 'defunct', everything starting with 'de' or 'dis'--and the ending 'pf' which sounds like you're spitting out something you're drinking.

Of course making fun of foreign names is a little off-brand for the Democrats, as Scott Adams has pointed out, but Germans are bad, right?

Anyone who spoke with a refined accent and used intellectual vocabulary would never be elected POTUS.

Or shall we go for a stroll in the Seattle Autonomous Zone, visit the "people of color only" garden plot, count the BLM tags, etc. and so forth? Power to the People Of Color, dude. Your gang, your CHAZ, own it.

    there’s even a Reddit

Lol. There's a Reddit for a lotta things, probably one for lolcats. So?

Dude, you can give up that Wobbly nostalgia any old time, it's not 1920. Identity politics is baked into the tossed salad now by demographics and biological diversity.

Are you seriously pretending that the right isn’t pandering to minorities too? Anglo-American acculturated whites are over. Boomers, mind-colonized by ZOG evolved into mostly impotent fathers raised children bent on racial self-destruction.

That’s why the Republicans are pushing all their chips in on Hispanics and black men. Again, if you want to maintain some place on the hierarchy, learn Spanish. The Hispanics will be less fickle masters than the Black/Jew alliance.

    Nope.

  25. Funny that 8% of blacks don’t know why they’re voting.

I wonder how these numbers might be different, if Trump merely spoke with a refined accent and used intellectual vocabulary.

I also wonder if the numbers would be nudged, at all, if he had an obvious Jewish name, like "Goldberg", and spoke with a Brooklyn accent. I mean, it's impossible to miss all the cases of "Drumpf." Sometimes, there is an umlaut in there, and even with a touchscreen, it seems like an odd amount of effort, for people who likely have not the slightest knowledge of German.

It *sounds* funny. Think of all the negative words that start with ‘d’–‘dumb’, ‘dead’, ‘dolt’, ‘dotard’ (a favorite lately on the left), ‘defective’, ‘defunct’, everything starting with ‘de’ or ‘dis’–and the ending ‘pf’ which sounds like you’re spitting out something you’re drinking.

Of course making fun of foreign names is a little off-brand for the Democrats, as Scott Adams has pointed out, but Germans are bad, right?

Anyone who spoke with a refined accent and used intellectual vocabulary would never be elected POTUS.

I have to say one of the things I’m sorry I never got to see was the Bernie Sanders-Donald Trump debate.

Came close to happening in 2016, don't you remember? Trump proposed and Sanders accepted. If I were in Trump's shoes, I would not have not just done that, but had it meditated by (the then sane) Reddit or something, outside of the control of any major media networks, and milked every last drop of political capital I could have out of that. It would have been absolutely perfect, both strategically and tactically.

The moment Trump backed out of that was when I innately realized he was BSing. He was being lobbed a big fat softball against Hillary and her MSM toadies for the general, and missed.

  29. Yes blacks ,whites ,browns, pink ,reds and yellows will most likely vote for Biden and or Trump. It is still our constitutional obligation and responsibility to vote for whomever we cast our ballot for. I think it is political and economic suicide to vote for any party or individual who is not obligated in kind. There is a certain percentage of any group ( this includes “blacks) who are emotionally crippled when it comes to making decisions in the political arena.Emotions do not and should not be the deciding factor in economic decisions. They are good for our support mechanisms but emotions should not be the overwhelming factor in the political arena. So yes some Americans (black) will vote for Biden and they will be permanently disappointed that they did so.So will the whites who vote for Biden they will be permanently disappointed unless his policies are what they actually want.

as one of those aggrieved Leftists, my beef is less with the actual candidate and more with the wisdom of having a primary process that makes the "Aunt Jemima strategy" Game Theory Optimal. starting in lily-white Iowa and New Hampshire doesn't make a whole ton of sense, but following that with Deep Southern states that will never ever *EVER* Vote Blue and making them kingmakers seems even dumber. why not start with your Michigans and Ohios of the world (which, btw, Joe might have won/Bernie might have lost even if it were first...so be it)

that said while Joe is, y'know, an obviously senile Neoliberal/Globalist who was never especially smart to begin with, he doesn't inspire the same visceral hatred Hillary did. there's definitely a goofiness and a certain kind of charm underneath the drool (related aside: The Onion did more positive work for Joe Biden's image than any PR firm ever could) whereas Hil was completely irredeemable.

this is why i've wagered money on Joe. given how severely polarized the electorate, "negative partisanship" is one of the most important factors in modern era competitive elections and i don't believe Joe triggers anywhere near the energy to vote against as Hil.

Florida and Illinois are the two most demographically representative states in the country. One is reliably blue, one is a battleground. Beginning with these two would probably be the best way to find a candidate energizing Democrats and attractive to independents.

Blacks demonstrate the least opposition to Trump. Seems like the right place to ask for votes.

This election may not even happen. The Marxists are revolting already. This could start Civil War II and make it go hot.

Senile Biden is just a placeholder. They want to put a minority woman there and this senile old joker is a Trojan Horse to try to do it.

If the election happens, Trump wins. Old senile Biden won't get past the first debate.

    Replies: @Audacious Epigone

The Biden campaign would be crazy to put him on stage with Trump, even though Trump is a lousy debater. The risks are too high and there is no payoff. There won’t be any debates.
