A few weeks ago, I appeared on Post-Politika, a small Russian liberal debate/discussion YouTube channel with a thousand subscribers. A friend produced a highlight of my takes; the full video can be found here - Unfortunately it was all in Russian, with no translation. But the gist of it was that they invited three people... Recent Levada poll asking 14-29 year old Russians and non-Russians how often they feel discriminated against. Non-Russians: 77% say never discriminated against. Also 78% of women say there were never discriminated against on account of their sex. This succinctly answers the question of whether there is racism and sexism in Russia. There isn't, so far... Yandex.Taxi is Russia's Uber. According to its terms of service, a driver can refuse a passenger a ride for any reason; he or she is deducted a fine and that's the end of the matter. But, like many laws and regulations, this apparently no longer applies to Black passengers. Drivers are obligated to give them... Read More
Considering the type of people who take him seriously - hard right conservatives, Gog/Magog cultists, "Final Phase" conspiracy theorists, White Nationalists - it's pretty funny that this guy's complaints towards the USSR boiled down to them not letting him race mix with Indians.
David Rozado has created the website Media Analytics where you can track the frequency of various words in the New York Times from 1970-2017. This would appear to be a very useful tool for tracking the Zeitgeist. You can do something similar in Google Books, but it only runs to 2000. Anyhow, here is his... Read More
Harvard University maintains an online database of "implicit association tests" that purport to show your subconscious outlook on things. In the race test, you are presented with a series of pictures of Whites and Blacks, which you have to racially identify; these are interspersed with adjectives (joyous, anger, cherish, horror), which you simultaneously have to... A few months late, but worth posting anyway. The results are based on the latest "wave" of the World Values Survey, a very interesting project that tracks sociological data across countries - and which I will likely post more about in the future. Interesting observations: (1) The West in general is the world's least "racist"*... Read More
It's not just the gopniks who are withering away; so are racist skinheads. According to the SOVA Center - an NGO which is about as anti-Kremlin as it gets, so no point in speculating that it cooks the figures for PR purposes - racist attacks in Russia have plummeted from their peak levels in 2007-2008,... As I noted in my old post on the false dichotomy between race denial and racism, there is a regrettable degree of overlap between racism and race realism. This shouldn't however blind us to the real distinctions between the two, which were very succinctly summarized by Half Sigma thus: This applies to comments such as... Read More
At least according to Israeli Interior Minister Eli Yishai, who is hilariously a Sephardi Jew, i.e. closer to Arabs than Europeans. Well, all countries have a right to sovereignty over their own borders, and stemming the inflow of illegal African immigrants is perfectly justifiable in Israel's case. To this end they are ramping up legal... Read More
Here's a sampling of recent headlines from the country that loves to lecture others on freedom of speech and rule of law. Racist Tube rant woman Jacqueline Woodhouse jailed: A London Underground passenger has been jailed for 21 weeks after she admitted hurling racist abuse at fellow passengers. - BBC Girl gang who kicked woman... You can listen to the 56 minutes of my interview on The Stark Truth about race realism, IQ / human capital, and economic development here. (That, or read the posts linked to therein if you haven't already. I didn't say much new). Many thanks to Robert Stark, and the Voice of Reason Broadcast Network which... Read More
This may be the article I've hesitated longest over publishing. Its subject matter has always hovered as a specter over my writings on the close relation between human capital and economic growth; an obvious but studiously ignored presence*. I am talking, of course, about race and IQ. Of racial differences in IQ, to be precise.... Read More
The second part of my series comparing Russia, Britain, and the US focuses on the people themselves. What are their strengths and foibles? How do they vary by class, region, race, and religion? How do they view each other and other countries and peoples? What do they eat, drink, and watch? Where do they travel... Read More
I am a blogger, thinker, and businessman in the SF Bay Area. I’m originally from Russia, spent many years in Britain, and studied at U.C. Berkeley.
One of my tenets is that ideologies tend to suck. As such, I hesitate about attaching labels to myself. That said, if it’s really necessary, I suppose “liberal-conservative neoreactionary” would be close enough.
Though I consider myself part of the Orthodox Church, my philosophy and spiritual views are more influenced by digital physics, Gnosticism, and Russian cosmism than anything specifically Judeo-Christian.
