Just to confirm that progress on DARK LORD OF THE KREMLIN is in full swing, with about 40% of the first draft done. I am aiming for publication around October.

Here are the chapter titles to whet your appetites – as you can see, I spare no tired trope when writing about the Putin kleptocracy. 🙂 If it’s 40% done, that also means four of the ten chapters. Try to guess which ones.

Intro: “If It’s About Russia, It’s True”
1. The KGB Colonel
2. Mafia State
3. Kremlin Media
4. Potemkin Russia
5. Caviar Roads
6. The Dying Bear
7. Neo-Soviet Revanchism
8. Stalin Worship
9. Crimes of the Regime
10. Russia and the West

PS. It will also need a front cover. I’m thinking of something flippant like Putin riding a shark Nazgul steed in front of the Kremlin. If you have graphic design moxie please feel free to contact me, we can discuss price.

  1. All this sounds quite brilliant, including the front cover project. Some orcs in KGB uniforms may also suit it.

  2. If only gifs could be covers…

  3. It’s an interesting idea, especially if you combine it like the famous bear pic.

  4. KGB colonel
    Potemkin country
Dying bear ( nailed on )
    Crimes of the regime

    2/4. Not bad.
  5. @Arkadi

    2/4. Not bad.

  6. How come there is no chapter about the Caucasus and the conflict to secure exclusive oil and gas rights to Europe given this is the central crux of Putin policy both domestic and foreign at least in his 1st term?

I think you’re cover should have a classic movie style like with Star Wars, Blade Runner, etc.

  7. Are you thinking of a photomontage for the Nazgul thing? Then it needs to be really over the top and funny, ie well-made. Why not a drawing
    may be a caricature/ burlesque style ?http://www.toonpool.com/cartoons/Putin%20Medvedev_26992

  8. Dear Anatoly,

Congratulations on such excellent progress. This is one book to look forward to!

  9. Pretty sure I’m going to buy this book to support your writing & blogging.

Thanks. I'm planning to give it away free to regular commentators anyway (so that would be you as well as several others, even Ildar should he so wish).
