At its best, it merely stands in the way of progress—while, at its worst, it proactively forces regression toward the mean, while the mean itself is continually lowered in all characteristics wherein humans excel.
-Because in the last 2-3 decades and respective to the rest of the world, China has behaved like an opportunistic, amoral parasitoid—an organism that parasitizes, and in the process kills its host organism. Which is to say, it has explicitly and deliberately broken every rule that it agreed to, when it ratified the WTO treaty that gave it access to world trade. The West merely acted in “bad faith,” in that it agreed to this on the grounds that the ensuing improvement in living standards would necessarily lead to an emancipation of the people—whereas Chinese leadership acted expressly in bad faith and with nefarious intent, in that its purpose was to misuse and abuse both the WTO and its own status within it, in order to consolidate wealth and arrogate global influence by continuously violating the treaty. The CPC is, and will under Xi Jinping (and, necessarily, beyond) always remain an evil oppressor of human dignity, notwithstanding changes in Western culture. Synthetic steroids definitely work, and work fast. I’ve seen young guys go from 98 lb weaklings to 200 lb musclemen in a few months. But nowadays, they are easily detectable. The switch to natural testosterone (hgh) is just about complete now. The testing method I’m familiar with is that they test early in a career and watch for unrealistic growth in testosterone levels. A guy who started out at 400 and ended up at 990 would be suspended. Athletes nowadays are on their upward trajectory as high school kids and so are very often keen on this testing method, so along with their trainers, make sure the levels are high from day one. One of my sons played high school ball with kids who were on hgh.

If levels are managed properly, an athlete doesn’t have to bulk up and could take an amount to improve his swimming physique and numbers. There may even be new, undetectable drugs out there. And it wouldn’t just be this Chinese guy, I’m sure every athlete from the 1st world, if they are training with the best, are on something. Just like 99% of the “natural” bodybuilders out there.

Organized sports in general are for richer nations. Even amateur athletes can only do it due to having the leisure time and funds for it. That sound like the average Mainland Chinese to you?

In South East Asia, Chinese Singaporean athletes easily keep up with population behemoths like Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Thailand. Note that Singapore’s population is tiny.

Sports is non-productive, there’s no national economic value in it, it’s an individual/corporate/prestige thing. Singapore is rich, so can afford good healthcare, nutrition, and coaching better than their neighbors. They can tap into their genetic potential, which turns out is not bad.

Bring a Chinese crew to do serious activities like road work, construction, mining or heavy manufacturing and agriculture. Probably no shortage of physical force they can bring to bear in those jobs, I’m thinking.

How can you bear to live in such a horrible place?

Though no positive reports, ABC trawls the backwaters of China looking for chinks in the armour. Looking for poverty and injustice. Sometimes, this leaves only natural disasters to report.

Contempt for the individual? Collectivism was a Chinese societal trait long before Karl Marx was ever even born. In any event – it’s comical as local Chinese governments just announced cash prizes to the winners of medals and their families. The different provinces gave different cash bonuses and also based on the medal won. What’s that again about contempt for the individual? LOL.

Clown you should know that China didn’t compete in the Olympics for 30 years because it refused to accept the Republic of China competing. So the count is artificially low. Kind of like how politics kept Russia out this year.

Partially correct. The Republic of China di compete – but it was token performances. The People’s Republic did boycott the Olympics for a few decades after the civil war until Taiwan was no longer allowed to compete as the Republic of China – but only as Chinese Taipei. But yes – the numbers are not real because yes in effect China didn’t compete until the 1980’s.
And hey if you count Hong Kong (which was British Hong Kong but now Hong Kong, China) – let alone Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) – China would have topped the gold medal count at this Olympics. Both won golds.
