One thing I’m observing from this and the bridges which were hit three times by HIMARS is that these rockets are certainly not very destructive. They appear to be anti-personnel weapons at best, and rather than destroying ammo dumps, it seems likely that they merely trigger ammo dumps to destroy themselves.

The destruction here is a lot of people killed, but the buildings are not destroyed, not really all that badly damaged, and it appears that even the bed frames can be easily reused.

As to the bridges, after three “successful” HIMARS attacks the bridges are still standing, and all we see are some potholes in the decking. Admittedly some of those holes are rather large, but how long is it going to take to repair those bridges.

How do you know what Russians/FSB know or don’t know?
Obviously the Azov POWs were kept in Donbass Republic because Russia has no death penalty, but DPR does*. Donetsk Russians — who have been on the receiving end of the UkroNazi terror for 8 years — are no doubt thirsting for revenge. They may even have insisted to Putin that they want to keep them in DPR and deal with them themselves.

Having said that, I think we can reasonably assume that the few high-value POWs (officers, commanders) have been moved to Russia for the FSB to extract all the info they can.

My only question is: Why did the Russians keep the prisoners so close to the border, why not hundreds of miles from the border, out of the range of any missiles? My only guess is that the prisoners were kept near to the border to be such a tempting target for Zelinsky that he couldn’t resist it. He’s now where the Russians want him, an aggressor, a murderer, a butcher. They’ve already got enough on him to hang him 100 times.

If I was Russia I would have taken every prisoner to Siberia or the Urals and kept them alive until the war ends. It takes many months to train soldiers to use the HIMARS. That means that NATO operates these weapons. The highly-accurate targeting information was provided by the USA. That can only mean that the West knowingly killed these Nazis.

That has been a consistent theme. It is hard to know what will be the next “game changer”. A tactical nuke?

Russia has escalation dominance so it is pointless continuing this charade.

Ukraine has several reasons to expect that Ukraine POWs, especially the defenders of Mariupol, will not confess to any attrocities:
1) if they did talk, there would already be a verified video of it in YouTube
2) if they do, they face a death penalty from the separatists
3) if they would do it under torture, they would have done so already in these months
4) if they had agreed to talk, they would have been been transferred to a safe place out of the range of Ukraine HIMARS
5) it is unlikely that any Mariupol defender who had done anything deserving a death penalty would give himself up as a POW, Ukraine sent several times a helicopter to bring ammunition, they would have escaped with a helicopter or fought to the end rather than surrender.
Because of these reasons Ukraine had no reason to bomb a POW camp.

Ukraine hardly bombed a POW camp by mistake as it targets high value objects: command posts and fuel, weapon and ammunition deposits, which are all easily identified from satellite and drone images, and Ukraine has informers in Donbass.

Therefore the most logical explanation is that separatists blew the POW camp up. They had a good reason for it: Ukraine is expected to make a counteroffensive in August. Separatists want that this counteroffensive does not target Donbass separatist areas. Thus, they threaten to kill all POWs if Ukraine attacks them. They have over 1000 POWs. But as the international law forbids killing POWs, it was made so that they can claim that Ukraine bombed the camp. POWs were placed close enough that this would be technically possible.

It is rather reasonable to think that the Wagner group made the explosion inside the building, as Ukraine intelligence claims. Was Wagner owned by Yevgeny Prigozhin? Was he half-Jewish as so many Unz commenters see a Jewish hand in this war?

Ukraine, and especially Zelensky, are blatantly committing war crimes here, first by using cluster munitions, but second by targeting civilians with them. Clearly the Ukrainians are burning the metaphorical bridges so the few remaining honorable officers in Ukraine cannot retreat. This is metaphorical equivalent to how Ukraine blew all the bridges in order to block the retreat of their mechanized forces from Sevierodonetsk across the Donets river into Lisischansk. Thousands died, many thousands more were captured, and a treasure trove of heavy equipment, much of it Nato, was captured.

Importantly, at the Azot plant many foreign mercenaries were captured, and they face the death penalty and therefore are likely to spill the beans about CIA/Mossad/MI6 involvement. This is likely why this POW camp was targeted, to murder “squeelers” and to get a message to all the other foreign mercenaries and special forces to keep quiet. Since the Ukrainians do not have the kind of precise targeting data provided, it is also stands to reason that 6 eyes intelligence not only provided the guidance and the exact coordinates, but they also had transcripts of what information was being revealed to the Russians.

And if you think about it, a gas stove is completely different from an open kerosene fire, and that wire coat hanger isn’t made of steel, and there are many different kinds of steel, and skyscraper steel has high standards. A corollary to this action is that Ukraine is trying to forcibly ‘evacuate’ all citizens from cities and towns in Donets, because they realize those ‘Ukrainians’ are simply waiting for the Russians to take over, and they can start living again, as part of Russia.

Actually no one believes that, even in Russia. Russia hoped that a lightning attack all over the country, but especially Kiev, would collapse the Ukrainian government, and the people would welcome the Russians as liberators. It did not work. So, they had to change the tactic, and pull all the forces they were using to Donbass. The initial plan was not crazy, and probably worth trying, but pretending that Russia is omniscient, makes it impossible to understand what is happening.

I would guess that in part Russia has to make this up as they go along. Bucha was a big change. After withdrawing from the city (after the initial phase) people who had taken aid from Russia were rounded up, murdered, then put on display on the street in order to blame Russia. After that, Russia realized that if they turned over the ‘liberated’ territories in some sort of agreement, they could expect their supporters to be murdered.

Armored force can make this cut before Russians can respond, it is essentially steppe. Going fast around all population centers just to separate Russians into two parts.
The East side of this cut would fall in a month in lack of ammunition, and the West side of this cut is unprotected as Russian fortifications in Zaporizhzhia assume an attack from the North. The West would fall probably up to Mariupol. As a consequence, Crime is threatened after the South is taken. Therefore Russia must withdraw much of the forces from Donbass to protect Crime (which is must protect as there is Sevastopol and it is annexed). Only after that happens, would the counteroffensive start in Donbass. It would succeed as Russians would have withdrawn much of their forces, so the North would fall. The result: borders of 24. Feb. before the end of the year.

But I cannot guess their plan. Probably they have a better idea, this was just a civilian suggestion. It is of course possible they intend to attack first in Donbass, but that would very much surprise me and I expect that it would fail: Russia is too strong in Donbass now.

I very much doubt Ukrainians make the war according to American instructions.
