Far from being linked to any drama from thousands of years ago, this conflict has very recent roots. From the beginning of its existence Israel had no beef with Iran. On their part Iran tolerated, and on occasions cooperated with Israel and everything was hunky-dory, to the extent it can be in that part of the world anyway… This only changed after Islamic revolution in 1979, showing that if there is any religious extremism involved here, it’s entirely on the side of Iranian leadership.
