Coach Red Pill, also known as Gonzalo Lira, has appeared on a 4-minute livestream early Friday morning (it would have been afternoon in the Ukraine) with “The Duran” (don’t know who that is).

He said the date and said that he is physically fine but rattled, after having been picked up by the SBU and detained for a week.

He said that his computers and phones were confiscated, and he was told he is not allowed to leave the city of Kharkiv.

I had never closely followed Coach in previous times. I had seen a few of his videos on women, and basically agreed for the most part, but not really found them especially profound, or interesting enough to watch more of. I am aware that he’s been involved in a lot of various internet drama, and that a lot of people hate him and accuse him of things.

Therefore, I’m sure a lot of people are going to say that he faked being kidnapped by the SBU (Ukraine’s successor to the KGB) in order to drum up publicity around himself. I’m not going to say that is not possible. It’s probably impossible for him to release evidence showing that this kidnapping actually happened.

However, it is also very likely that exactly what he said happened did happen – the SBU picked him up, questioned him, detained him, then saw the amount of drama surrounding his disappearance, and decided to release him rather than announce that they’d arrested him as a security threat.

Apparently, Coach has a US passport. I was not aware of that. Maybe they were not aware of that when they nabbed him. But having a US passport is a relevant detail.

I will also say: the SBU is now a fully Jewish organization – Zelensky banned all non-Jews for fear they were Russian agents – and is in constant contact with Western intelligence agencies. Normally, if you were taken into custody by the cops in any country (even the Ukraine), you would be given some kind of paperwork. However, Western intelligence would know of Coach’s drama-linked reputation, and know that there would be a lot of people online ready to accuse him of faking this, and tell the SBU to just drop him off without any paperwork.

So, I don’t think the fact that he doesn’t have proof this happened is proof it didn’t happen. But obviously, he could have faked it. You can’t prove that didn’t happen either.

Deep Fake?

It is actually possible that this is a deep fake. I mean, it is technically possible. The video is not super high quality, there are endless hours of footage of Coach Red Pill talking, so it is not outside of technical capacity at this point in time for this to be completely fake.

However, I seriously doubt that is the case. I only mention it because I know other people will be saying it. But I very much do not think so.

The really concerning fact is that it could be a deep fake and we would have no way of knowing. So it is good to ask.

But it is much more likely in this case that either he faked this or he is telling the truth and he was detained and let go.

  1. He looks suspiciously good for having been ‘detained’ by the SBU for a week (think Viktor Medvedchuk). But he cannot discuss anything that happened. It’s a secret. Under ‘pain of death’ if revealed, you know.

And I strongly suspect his internet audience (from which I understand he draws his not insubstantial income) has now increased by millions, which will very likely mean increased income flow. Possibly very substantial.

I’m sure this was not shameless self-promotion and that we’ve all been suckered…….

(Aimee Semple McPherson comes immediately to mind: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disappearance_of_Aimee_Semple_McPherson)

I was pretty upset when he ‘disappeared’. Glad he’s not dead, no doubt. But it smells a bit too much of a possibly very profitable ruse….. 🙁

The Duran – an often quite informative podcast by two Brits of Greek extraction. Alexander Mercouri ranks in my opinion with Moon of Alabama.

  3. Anglin hasn’t seen the Duran? For shame!
Assuming this story is real, it feeds into my suspicion that both sides are greatly exaggerating the viciousness of the other. Though I’d believe anything of those Azov nutcases.

  4. Anon[273] • Disclaimer says:

All in all that means the Ukrainians are the good guys, gullible enough to let a foreign operative loose on their territory during a war. Personally, I would have rather gotten rid of the parasite. That’s also what the Russians would have done without a second thought.

The way to do this is to regular fake it rather than deep fake it.

Having dropped him off without his computers, he is now expected to disappear off the internet. Thus, when you shoot him, nobody notices quickly enough to matter. Alternatively you say he tried to leave Kharkiv and thus you detained him “legitimately.” Again, let him release 1-2 statements saying he’s fine, then shoot him; nobody notices before long after the event.

That said I claimed he was dead already and I was wrong.

  6. It is actually possible that this is a deep fake.

    That ‘Lira’ is really Zelensky.

  7. Anon[229] • Disclaimer says:

Could be a SWATting by the US media (was it Daily Wire who wrote the article?).

  8. Andrew, I am amazed you do not know of The Duran. Galloway I can do without, but Alex Christoforou and Alexander Mercouris have provided some excellent views and commentary on the situation in Ukraine and on the suicide of the West. Check them out.

  9. Sasu says:

I never listened to Lira before the war started, but tuned in when he guested elsewhere. While I appreciated a lot of his analysis, he rubbed me the wrong way with his classism and what I took to be a general dislike of White America. I thought there was something off about him. Then he became a desaperacido, and I was incensed. Now this interesting development. I agree with Mustapha Mond that he looks healthier and more well-rested than he did pre-disappearance, but that might be explained by limited access to booze, if he was telling the truth. Or maybe the people who think he faked this to raise his profile are right. It might not be out of character. I entertained a few scenarios when I heard he was alive, most of them very unlikely but not impossible.

Let’s see, the ukrainians let “their” coup government build a network of biological laboratories on their land, near Russia, which, judging by the frantic US statement that they were “worried they might fall into Russian hands”, appear to be more than innocent research facilities.

Then that about “the ukraine” helping the US — a huge, aggressive rival power that has invaded, bombed, and killed more than a million people in Iraq and Afghanistan, aided the Saudi head choppers in murdering civilians in their homes schools hospitals in Yemen, and constantly threatens war, drones or bombs defenseless civilian who had no capacity to hurt us here in the USA, presumes to dictate who may trade with whom, and has spent decades assassinating or overthrowing governments not to its liking (or that of its corporate/banking controllers/donors) — to place troops, tanks, and missiles right near Russia’s borders, more than 5,000 miles from the rival power (US)’s borders.

Then they let the ukrainian government arm, train, support, and deploy fanatics like Azov Battalion to kill, terrorize, and displace ethnic Russians / native Russian-speaking people (a large proportion of the “ukrainian” population in each case) on their own longstanding home territory / neighborhoods, since 2014.

Then they went along with sanctions meant to hurt and eventually starve the Russian people into submission and “regime change.”

Then their “president” threatens to get nuclear weapons.

After all this, they become “the good guys” if they refrain from murdering this unarmed 50-something-year-old non-combatant, Gonzalo Lira? Your logic is somewhat less than compelling on this one.

I agree that The Duran is a great source of actual propaganda free news.

Lira is an educated guy and doubtless heard the tale about “boy crying wolves”. So I would be surprised if he thinks it’d pay off to use such thing just for the hype. When people do disappear left and right in the Ukraine.

Also, there was no interactivity. He named a date an time, but did not take any live questions on that very short stream, so the thing might have been pre-recorded at SBU, or something. He did not look all that normal.

  13. “…not allowed to leave the city of Kharkiv.” I interrupt this love-in to remind, the war is not over. Artillery is what kills.

  15. Coach Red Pill Lives!

    Hurrah!

Just as well – the Daily Beast was shitting itself. Seriously.

But it is much more likely in this case that either he faked this or he is telling the truth and he was detained and let go.

Well that seems to cover all the bases.

Come on, Mr. Anglin – you’re rambling. You can do better than this.

  16. Sasu says:
    @Thelma Ringbaum

He did not sound all that normal either.

  17. There is something fishy going on with Gonzalo. He says his computer has been confiscated by the SBU. But if you visit his YouTube channel you’ll find none of his videos where he exposes the Ukrainian govt headed by Zelensky have been removed. They are still there. It doesn’t make any sense for the SBU to take Gonzalos computer, without forcing him to delete all the videos.Another thing is how he knows what’s realy going on in Kharkov.? All the info which he gets comes from the internet. He is not roaming arround trying to get info from the local people what to speak of other forces. He totaly depends on the Internet .I agree with his analysis, but how he knows what’s realy going on when he lives in his apartment 24/7. So,if he takes everything from the internet, why he claims to be in Kharkov when there is no need for it ? He can do this from any part in the world,no need to be in Kharkov.
So my guess is,Gonzalo is not in Kharkov, he is playing a game because he loves to be in the spotlight and he enjoys talking about his research from the internet making himself internationally important .He is making a big show for himself, that’s all what it is about. He is not in Kharkov and he never was arrested by the SBU.

Even if their thugs themselves cannot tell youtube from pornhub, they go by the book and seize your computer.

(You should have known that, working for them)

At the time, Steve Keen was an associate professor of economics at University of Western Sydney. He later became a professor and Head of the School of Economics, History and Politics at Kingston University in London. He has a reputation to uphold. Gonzalo is a nobody and has nothing to lose.

“I was pretty upset when he ‘disappeared’. Glad he’s not dead, no doubt. But it smells a bit too much of a possibly very profitable ruse….. 🙁”

So should he be dead to make it more “authentic”??? What would have made you happy? Consider Graham Philips who years ago while covering Donbass was detained and then deported. He only went back now to Russian controlled areas. They didn’t kill either… Both have western passports… If they had Ukrainian or Russian passports both would probably be dead indeed.

  24. @showmethereal

I am glad he was not tortured and snuffed.

Probably I have watched the last of his videos though. I probably will accidentally hear more than I need to know about this story.

As I said, I am VERY happy he is alive. I was really upset when we believed he had been murdered by that asshole Neo-Nazi, “Chile”, and my wife and I talked at length about him on number of occasions . We worried. We fucking cared.

Thus, I really hope everything he said about his ‘kidnapping’ is true. Because otherwise, we were played emotionally like fiddles. Nobody but Gonzalo (and his alleged kidnappers) knows what really happened. Not you and certainly not me. And, we may never know.

But he sure looked good, really good actually, after being ‘kidnapped’ for a week by the usually murderous monsters at the SBU……

(Oh, and check out comment #20 above…… again, make of it what you will.)

There are very few saints in this world, sad to say…..

Did you ever watch any of the Coach Red Pill videos?

I watched a few of them; they were not terrible. Dating coach is a misnomer. They were more like Success coach videos. His honesty always was somewhat dubious. Also there was one in which his integrity was rather precarious. The one where his married ex-girlfriend has a child who looks exactly like his cousin. That is the type of thing which it is careless to put out there. The child who looks exactly like his cousin is liable to see it. That is pretty much revenge porn PG-13 rated.

What can be said over beers among your mates can be gross and inappropriate for public broadcast.

“Did you ever watch any of the Coach Red Pill videos?”

Of course! The very first one after the Special Op started, if I recall correctly. But he kinda rambled and sorta droned on and on, while the “mmm-hmmms” and his general tone was somewhat, well, boring and not as informative as I had hoped. I read news feeds and political blogs about international news/relations all day long. I simply didn’t have time for his approach/style. But I STRONGLY supported his doing so, and thus was really upset when I thought he had been killed by ‘Chile’, the neo-nazi.

I can’t stand Glenn Greenwald, as he always struck me as a Sayan on issues relating to zionism and jewish supremacism, like Chomsky. But I do NOT want any harm to come to him! (Or Chomsky.) I am anti-war, anti-racism and anti-violence. So, obviously, I would really be upset if a good guy (presumably) like Gonzalo was killed while trying to get the word out. And even if he wasn’t such a good guy after all. Life is party, and I want everyone to have a great time and go home happy and safe. But that’s just how I am.

As for your comments about some allegedly inappropriate/weird videos, I would know nothing about those, and don’t really want to, to be honest. Gonzalo is alive and well, and that’s where I’ll leave it…….

The very first one after the Special Op started, if I recall correctly.

    I guess I wasn’t clear.

By “Coach Red Pill” videos I meant the ones titled as such. The ones going back several years (2016? I cannot recall the year I first saw him on you tube.) The ones for which the Daily Beast writer labeled him as Dating Coach. There were hundreds of them. He was a minor internet celebrity long before 2022. When I first saw him in February he was instantly recognizable and in a strange context. I don’t remember him ever giving a flying fu** about international politics.

  30. @Anon

Yes, some reputation of a British Scientist (as in Fergusons, Montbiotes, etc.; World Famous epydemologists and climatologists). And an Economist at that(any relation to Krug-mann?).

Myself, I periodically check on my wallet and my wristwatch , when near such types.

But thats to say, I have no idea about the conflict of those folks, who was in the wrong etc. ; when you do businness with someone, conflicts always happen. May be Lira was wrong, may be the other guy. Hows that discounts the truths about dating divorcees or living in Kharkoff, I do not see.

  31. @Emil Nikola Richard

When you disagree with even some little part of the official Truth of the Day, as the Daily Beast hitpiece says, you are a heretic and bound to fall lower and lower.

CRP started as pickup and businness coach, but that led him to argue with Feminizm (for which any PUA lore is anathema maranatha); and businness, led to unhappy study of what kind of businness and state Elites there be.

It naturally evolved into first US and then international politics. Politics comes for you, even if all you wanted initially is to date non-damaged girls under 25. Want a happy marriage between man and woman, ha?

It is tragic that this very desire in the end left CRP marooned in the Ukraine. He should have picked a Russian girl instead.

  32. Anon[125] • Disclaimer says:
    @Emil Nikola Richard

“I don’t remember him ever giving a flying fu** about international politics.”

He pumped the idea that our guys should sh1tcan the U.S.A. and go native in Eastern Europe and apparently he took his own advice, landing in a warzone.

  33. @Emil Nikola Richard

No, no, I had never heard of him until I saw his first Ukrainian war video on Linh Dinh’s blogspot, which Linh kindly shared with his readers.

I had no idea he was an ‘internet celebrity’, but rather thought he was just an amateur giving us his best analysis from the front at great risk to himself. And even though his style and plodding approach turned me off, I still respected his guts and determination. Thus my emotional turmoil when he was thought murdered by “Chile”.

It was when I saw his pristine face after an alleged week cuddling up with the Banderistas (usually not known to be nice to those viewed as ‘traitors’ or ‘collaborators’) that I became suspicious, and then only after I learned he earned his living from being an internet ‘celebrity’.

Further, the SBU did not need to keep him for a week to scare the living shit out of him. They can do that in a few minutes, no problem. Loaded rifles with cocked triggers to the forehead and/or a razor to the throat gets the message across quickly and unequivocally. But a week? Utterly unnecessary.

Again, I’m glad he’s okay, not dead, and hope he stays clear of the SBU from now on…….

  34. @Emil Nikola Richard

Personally I didn’t listen to him too much because I think he could have condensed his videos to 15 to 30 min. That said – the substance of what he was saying was correct… And yeah that can get you kidnapped by intelligence services in Ukraine.

  35. Whole things smells a little grifty to me.
