I’ve said it from the beginning: the only way out for Bibi is an escalation of the war.
There is no possibility of “victory” in Gaza, at least not without killing everyone there. So Bibi can either surrender to Hamas – which he is definitely not going to do – or he can escalate horizontally.
It’s clear that he knew this when he started. Maybe he didn’t know Hamas would be impossible to destroy, but he probably did. He wanted a war with Iran. That was the plan from the point when he allowed October 7th to happen on purpose. But that doesn’t even matter, because now his only choice is escalation. If he ended the war, he would be prosecuted, there would be an investigation into October 7th, and he might end up imprisoned or exiled.
Bibi has to escalate.
The basic path is through Lebanon into Iran. But Syria is also a target, as they are part of this “axis” that opposes Israel.

Israel regularly targets military sites in Syria linked to Iran and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah. Those strikes have become more frequent as Hezbollah has exchanged fire with Israeli forces for the past 11 months against the backdrop of Israel’s war against Hamas — a Hezbollah ally — in Gaza.
However, the intensity and death toll of Sunday night’s strikes were unusual.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on targets inside government-controlled parts of war-torn Syria in recent years, but it rarely acknowledges or discusses the operations. The strikes often target Syrian forces or Iranian-backed groups.
Israel has vowed to stop Iranian entrenchment in Syria, particularly since Syria is a key route for Iran to send weapons to Hezbollah.
Israeli strikes hit several areas in central Syria, damaging a highway in Hama province and sparking fires, Syrian state news agency SANA said.
Speaking to reporters, Syrian Health Minister Hassan al-Ghabbash described the strikes as a “brutal and barbaric aggression.” He said the death toll had risen to 18 with nearly 40 wounded.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based war monitor, said 25 were killed, including at least five civilians, while the others included Syrian army soldiers and members of Hezbollah and other Iran-linked armed groups.
One strike targeted a scientific research center in Masyaf, and others sites where “Iranian militias and experts are stationed to develop weapons in Syria,” the observatory said. It said the research center was reportedly used for developing weapons, including short- and medium-range precision missiles and drones.
Minister of Electricity Mohammad al-Zamel said the strikes had caused “truly significant” damage to water and electricity infrastructure.
“This brutal attack targeted civilian targets, and the martyrs were mostly civilians, as were the wounded,” he said.
The thing here is: the US is backing all of this. Israel doesn’t have money for this on their own, they do not have the weapons. It is all coming from the US.
Further, the US has said that regardless of what Israel does, the US military will always back them up. The State Department has said outright that there is no situation in which Israel’s behavior could result in restrictions on support for Israel. Whatever Israel does, the US will support them, no matter what. That is the official position of the State Department and of both political parties.
Nothing about this is going to change unless somehow Bibi is removed from power. Otherwise, we are on a march toward a US war with Iran.

When the Obama administration decided to give weapons to the “moderate rebels” in Syria, this was their goal. They wanted to take away Syria’s ability to defend itself against Israeli aggression.
Since the start of the Ukraine conflict in 2014, and especially since the beginning of full-scale war in 2022, Russia has been too embroiled close to home to risk giving full support to Syria.
This was the Obama administrations goal when they decided to support the overthrow of the elected government of Ukraine in 2014. They wanted to take away Russia’s ability to aid Syria.
If all the Arabs/Muslims united against Israel now, Israel would be defeated. But sometimes some Arabs/Muslims fight Israel, sometimes some others. The thing is to get them all together to attack. In the past Arabs/Muslims may not have been as strong militarily but nowadays if they united they could easily beat Israel even if NATO helps it. The Arabs/Muslims should postpone all the disputes they have among themselves until they defeat Israel and liberate Palestine. After that they can resume fighting each other.
