So how is the whole #Blexit movement going? Will millions of blacks suddenly leave the Democrat Plantation, voting Republican and for Donald Trump in 2020 as part of the rebellion against their “Democrats are the Real Racists” masters?
Not exactly. [What do black women voters want?, Washington Post, September 10, 2019]:
These results did more than confirm that African Americans are the most loyal constituency of the Democratic Party. They finally cemented African Americans as its foundation and black women as its cornerstone. That’s why we, those of us in the media and especially the presidential campaigns, should be paying attention to the fifth annual “Power of the Sister Vote” survey of African American women published by Essence magazine in conjunction with the Black Women’s Roundtable.
Not one ounce of energy should be spent trying to convince blacks to vote Republican (it’s hard to come up with a reason why whites should vote Republican for that matter). A whopping 1 percent of black women support Trump and 2.3% of black women aged 18-34 would vote him if the election were held today.
Not only is #Blexit a colossal failure, but it’s one the Republican Party and white donors desperate for not appearing racist will continue to double-down on until the only state the GOP can carry is Wyoming or Idaho in the electoral college.
Black women (and basically black men) voting as a monolith is due to their realization they have group interests the franchise allows them to promote via black public officials flexing political muscle. White people, to their eternal detriment, don’t grasp this, and instead flush money into projects such as… #Blexit.
But congrats! One percent of black women support President Trump!
