Do We Need to Bring Back Internment Camps?

Search Text Case Sensitive  Exact Words  Include Comments

Last week, Retired General Wesley Clark, who was NATO commander during the US bombing of Serbia, proposed that “disloyal Americans” be sent to internment camps for the “duration of the conflict.” Discussing the recent military base shootings in Chattanooga, TN, in which five US service members were killed, Clark recalled the internment of American citizens during World War II who were merely suspected of having Nazi sympathies. He said: “back then we didn’t say ‘that was freedom of speech,’ we put him in a camp.”

He called for the government to identify people most likely to be radicalized so we can “cut this off at the beginning.” That sounds like “pre-crime”!

Gen. Clark ran for president in 2004 and it’s probably a good thing he didn’t win considering what seems to be his disregard for the Constitution. Unfortunately in the current presidential race Donald Trump even one-upped Clark, stating recently that NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden is a traitor and should be treated like one, implying that the government should kill him.

These statements and others like them most likely reflect the frustration felt in Washington over a 15 year war on terror where there has been no victory and where we actually seem worse off than when we started. The real problem is they will argue and bicker over changing tactics but their interventionist strategy remains the same.

Retired Army Gen. Mike Flynn, who was head of the Defense Intelligence Agency during the US wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, told al-Jazeera this week that US drones create more terrorists than they kill. He said: “The more weapons we give, the more bombs we drop, that just … fuels the conflict.”

Still Washington pursues the same strategy while expecting different results.

It is probably almost inevitable that the warhawks will turn their anger inward, toward Americans who are sick of the endless and costly wars. The US loss of the Vietnam war is still blamed by many on the protesters at home rather than on the foolishness of the war based on a lie in the first place.

Let’s hope these threats from Clark and Trump are not a trial balloon leading to a clampdown on our liberties. There are a few reasons we should be concerned. Last week the US House passed a bill that would allow the Secretary of State to unilaterally cancel an American citizen’s passport if he determines that person has “aided” or “abetted” a terrorist organization. And as of this writing, the Senate is debating a highway funding bill that would allow the Secretary of State to cancel the passport of any American who owes too much money to the IRS.

Canceling a passport means removing the right to travel, which is a kind of virtual internment camp. The person would find his movements restricted, either being prevented from leaving or entering the United States. Neither of these measures involves any due process or possibility of appeal, and the government’s evidence supporting the action can be kept secret.

We should demand an end to these foolish wars that even the experts admit are making matters worse. Of course we need a strong defense, but we should not provoke the hatred of others through drones, bombs, or pushing regime change overseas. And we must protect our civil liberties here at home from government elites who increasingly view us as the enemy.

  1. As near as I can tell, the only foreign threat of any note to America’s security is Mexico. We should immediately abandon any military activity in WhoCaresistan and secure the border, dump any “immigrant” who takes any government assistance of any kind back in Tijuana, along with any immigrant who is a criminal, and tell Mexico that if they don’t like it, we’ve got our military along the border with our eye on them.

And then take a long, hard look at our legal immigration policy.

Anyone with even a high school level of economic understanding should know that the only effect of flooding the labor supply with cheap labor is to depress labor rates. There is no way that anything we have going on in our immigration policy benefits Americans; it only benefits politicians and their cronyist donors and allies.

That’s a foreign policy I could get behind.

If he was interested in combating terrorism he’d be calling for border controls.

If he’s not talking about border controls these camps are for somebody else and given the source we can guess who.

Let’s not forget what the origin of the problem is. There is no place in modern Europe for ethnically pure states. That’s a 19th century idea and we are trying to transition into the 21st century, and we are going to do it with multi-ethnic states.

In law enforcement, you often tolerate lower levels of criminal activity in order to take down the larger figures or crimes. When combating organized crime and the mafia, for example, the police and FBI tolerate don't enforce minor organized crime activity strictly, but tolerate it in order to better identify, track down, infiltrate, and take down the larger operation. Combating and pacifying global terror is a long term project and it makes sense to tolerate lower levels of terrorism to subdue over the long term.

They want to create a new world where the whites are stripped of power and autonomy.

Oh yeah, Clark is a idiot. He almost started WWIII with Russia over Serbia. He actually tried to order a attack on a Russian Naval asset in the Adriatic. The only reason it didn't happen is because it was countermanded by a more senior NATO commander. It was the reason he never made CJCS. The establishment realized their "tool" was a loose cannon and retired him.

I find it odd Paul didn't bring this tidbit up.

  4. Has everyone seen the news of the thousands of African invaders squatting in France attempting to rush the channel tunnel to England?

    http://www.cnn.com/2015/07/29/europe/france-uk-channel-tunnel-migrants/

And like the USA, corporations have taken control of governments so open borders allow this. What about locals who must live amongst these desperate err.. “immigrants.” Surely resulting crime reports are not allowed in corporate news. Here is something I wrote about the myth that the US Army cannot guard the USA from foreign invaders. The main mission of the US Army was border security until WW II. The US Border Patrol didn’t even exist until 1924!

    http://www.g2mil.com/border.htm

    which includes:

Myth #1 The US Constitution prohibits posting US troops on the border.

The US Constitution says no such thing. In fact, Article VI states:

Section 4. The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence.

Myth #2 The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits US troops from guarding US borders.

This 1878 act was enacted to prevent Union troops from continuing to enforce federal laws in the defeated South after the American Civil war. Here is the text as modified by Congress in recent years:

Sec. 1385. – Use of Army and Air Force as posse comitatus

Whoever, except in cases and under circumstances expressly authorized by the Constitution or Act of Congress, willfully uses any part of the Army or the Air Force as a posse comitatus or otherwise to execute the laws shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than two years, or both.

Guarding US borders from foreign invasion is not “law enforcement.” The US Army exists to defend the USA from foreign invasion, which is expressly authorized by the US Constitution. Guarding the Mexican border was the Army’s primary peacetime mission until 1940 and no one ever declared this was in violation of this 1878 act.

Myth #6 Illegal immigration cannot be stopped

Of course it can. There is no illegal immigration from North to South Korea because that border is heavily guarded. Perhaps some of the 28,000 US troops there can transfer to the US border.

One additional piece of information regarding the near-nuclear-war episode that you mention is that he almost started a huge war due his personal failure to secure Pristina Airport in Kosovo against a take-over by the Russians. He failed militarily, then got angry and wanted to hit back at Russians to sooth his own wounded ego. Only the good checks and balances of the US military hierarchy and the British common sense (British General Michael Jackson refused to hit the Russians) saved us to this day. For the maximum irony, the Russians withdrew from the Pristina Airport a few months later without a single shot fired. Nuclear holocaust for a few months on Russian camping at some airport and one wounded ego? No wonder such volatile individual got retired early.

"A military general and a fool" never fitted anyone better: average military skill, huge ego and humongous greed. It was no surprise that he ended up Wall Street Wes, an investment adviser into the areas he bombed for Canada and US.

I only wonder whether his puppeteers wanted to scare the US population but letting him shoot his mouth off, or whether he went out of control again.

Did you notice in his CNN speech that you could be suspicious to the Government and up in an internment camp if you did not have a girlfriend?

Clark has pretty much let his mask slip off now that he isn’t in his former position anymore or running for office. 14. I am rather surprised and more than a little disappointed that Ron Paul would even deem this subject as something to be discussed. First of all, let’s cut the bullshit with each other (as if such a thing is possible) and use the more accurate term: Concentration Camp.

The WWII Concentration camps (both German as well as American) should be a constant reminder to us as to how easily our “Constitution” can be ignored. Can you imagine the ruckus that would/could be generated if the Americans of Japanese descent suddenly acquired the same disposition as Blacks? The Blacks are pissed because their ancestors were brought over here as slaves, but the Americans of Japanese descent were American Citizens that ended up being enslaved. If you are an American and do not know the story of the WWII Concentration camps for Americans of Japanese descent, you should be ashamed of yourself. The insane reasoning DC used to justify themselves, why they kept it going even after it had become obvious that nothing was being served by Concentration Camps, makes hair-raising reading. Take an especially close examination of the extent the govt will go to once the white folks begin to experience panic.

Oh, and if you think that the establishment had even a twinge of regret for what it did to Americans, FU, go home, your not paying attention. The individual who ramrodded this abomination for FDR was, at that time, Attorney General of California. You would think that such an embarrassment, such an obviously illegal, immoral, and despicable act would cut short any political life of any participants, especially the leadership; however, that’s where you’d be wrong. The guy who executed this crime went on to become Chief Justice of the Supremes. His name was Earl Warren.

If you want an historical perspective on American Concentration Camps, on what the govt intends to do with them, what the govt thinks about the individuals sent to the Concentration Camps, and what the real ultimate aim of the Camps will be, do some light reading about the fate of the Cherokee. Yes, the “Indian Reservations” was the first Concentration Camps, oh, excuse me, Interment Camps of our modern era.

Please, if nothing else, remember this: No matter how many people go into a concentration camp, it will never be filled.

Hold off on your generous appraisal of Standard Oil -- they played both sides of the war in the quest for profits, just like Israel did in the Iran-Iraq war ---

    re Standard Oil --

Robert Lovett, pleading the case for adopting anti-personnel bombs loaded with napalm and white phosphorous, said [to FDR]: "If we are going to have a total war, we might as well make it as horrible as possible." Churchill trumped Lovett by calling on US president Franklin D Roosevelt to speed up production of a promised 500,000 top-secret "N-bombs" - filled with anthrax, developed at Dugway - to be dropped on Berlin and five other German cities.

As the debate raged in political and military circles, Mendelsohn ["the Jewish architect"], with scientists from Standard Oil and German-emigre set designers from Hollywood's RKO studio, set to work on German Village. RKO expertise contributed the design of proletarian Berlin interiors down to the last detail. . . .

Mendelsohn and his team had done a good job. Their designs were far superior to the German housing built in England for test destruction by the RAF at Harmondsworth, near Heathrow airport. Assaulted by napalm, gas, anthrax and incendiary bombs, German Village was rebuilt several times during 1943.

    and

Participating in the development and construction of the German-Japanese Village were governmental agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, the National Defence Research Committee (NDRC), and the Chemical Warfare Service (CWS), as well as private corporations such as the Standard Oil Development Company, producer of the incendiary bombs, and civil consultants called in because of their knowledge of building structures in Germany and Japan. http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/12/an_architektur.php

As the debate raged in political and military circles, Mendelsohn ["the Jewish architect"], with scientists from Standard Oil and German-emigre set designers from Hollywood’s RKO studio, set to work on German Village.

  26. I can’t believe no one has mentioned Donald Trump. He is at the top of the GOP “heap” and riding firmly on migration and for what he’s proposing he’ll definitely need a camp or two. Whitey will soon be in the minority and he won’t go quietly for he is the meanest SOB in the Valley. War with Mexico would be convenient and cheap and if they don’t do it now California will be gone in 20 years anyhow.

  27. How about we Americans head off our impending serfdom by joining hands and turning the DC Beltway into the fence surrounding the most-direly needed internment camp in our history.

    Bingo!!!!

He's not interested in fighting terrorism or drug cartels. That's why he omits the need to secure the borders and enforce immigration law.

    Clark means his fellow whites.

People don't get, that to make the rank he did, you have to be a complete tool of the establishment. Your views, opinions must be identical to theirs.

And what does the establishment hate and want gone? Whites that's who. Look how both parties support illegal immigration, along with Silicon Valley elites, Chambers of Commerce, the intelligentsia. All of them are on board with this.

“A military general and a fool” never fitted anyone better: average military skill, huge ego and humongous greed.

  29. Wesley Clark has always been a politically-correct leftist. Notice he said nothing about putting in camps foreign nationals who both are here illegally and commit felonies such as murder within our borders. It is incredible to me that this man was a general. If we have many more generals like him, then we have good reason to fear our military and should stop supporting it before it turns on us and puts us in camps.

    OK, how about a deal?

We put radicals in internment camps, and we send the likes of Bush, Cheney, Obama, and Hillary to the Hague for war crimes.

This is the best idea ever appeared on UNZ Review.
