On July 19, the Knesset voted to change the nation’s Basic Law.

Israel was declared to be, now and forever, the nation-state and national home of the Jewish people. Hebrew is to be the state language.

Angry reactions, not only among Israeli Arabs and Jews, came swift.

Allan Brownfeld of the American Council for Judaism calls the law a “retreat from democracy” as it restricts the right of self-determination, once envisioned to include all within Israel’s borders, to the Jewish people. Inequality is enshrined.

And Israel, says Brownfeld, is not the nation-state of American Jews.

What makes this clash of significance is that it is another battle in the clash that might fairly be called the issue of our age.

The struggle is between the claims of tribe, ethnicity, peoples and nations, against the commands of liberal democracy.

In Europe, the Polish people seek to preserve the historic and ethnic character of their country with reforms that the EU claims violate Poland’s commitment to democracy.

If Warsaw persists, warns the EU, the Poles will be punished. But which comes first: Poland, or its political system, if the two are in conflict?

Other nations are ignoring the open-borders requirements of the EU’s Schengen Agreement, as they attempt to block migrants from Africa and the Middle East.

They want to remain who they are, open borders be damned.

Britain is negotiating an exit from the EU because the English voted for independence from that transitional institution whose orders they saw as imperiling their sovereignty and altering their identity.

When Ukraine, in the early 1990s, was considering secession from Russia, Bush I warned Kiev against such “suicidal nationalism.”

Ukraine ignored President Bush. Today, new questions have arisen.

If Ukrainians had a right to secede from Russia and create a nation-state to preserve their national identity, do not the Russians in Crimea and the Donbass have the same right — to secede from Ukraine and rejoin their kinsmen in Russia?

As Georgia seceded from Russia at the same time, why do not the people of South Ossetia have the same right to secede from Georgia?

Who are we Americans, 5,000 miles away, to tell tribes, peoples and embryonic nations of Europe whether they may form new states to reflect and preserve their national identity?

Nor are these minor matters.

At Paris in 1919, Sudeten Germans and Danzig Germans were, against their will, put under Czech and Polish rule. British and French resistance to permitting these peoples to secede and rejoin their kinfolk in 1938 and 1939 set the stage for the greatest war in history.

Here in America, we, too, appear to be in an endless quarrel about who we are.

Is America a different kind of nation, a propositional nation, an ideological nation, defined by a common consent to the ideas and ideals of our iconic documents like the Declaration of Independence and Gettysburg Address?

Or are we like other nations, a unique people with our own history, heroes, holidays, religion, language, literature, art, music, customs and culture, recognizable all over the world as “the Americans”?

Since 2001, those who have argued that we Americans were given, at the birth of the republic, a providential mission to democratize mankind, have suffered an unbroken series of setbacks.

Nations we invaded, such as Afghanistan and Iraq, to bestow upon them the blessings of democracy, rose up in resistance. What our compulsive interventionists saw as our mission to mankind, the beneficiaries saw as American imperialism.

And the culture wars on history and memory continue unabated.

According to The New York Times, the African-American candidate for governor of Georgia, Stacey Abrams, has promised to sandblast the sculptures of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson and Jefferson Davis off Stone Mountain.

The Republican candidate, Brian Kemp, has a pickup truck, which he promises to use to transfer illegal migrants out of Georgia and back to the border.

In Texas, a move is afoot to remove the name of Stephen Austin from the capital city, as Austin, in the early 1830s, resisted Mexico’s demands to end slavery in Texas when it was still part of Mexico.

One wonders when they will get around to Sam Houston, hero of Texas’ War of Independence and first governor of the Republic of Texas, which became the second slave republic in North America.

Houston, after whom the nation’s fourth-largest city is named, was himself, though a Unionist, a slave owner and an opponent of abolition.

ORDER IT NOW

Today, a large share of the American people loathe who we were from the time of the explorers and settlers, up until the end of segregation in the 1960s. They want to apologize for our past, rewrite our history, erase our memories and eradicate the monuments of those centuries.

The attacks upon the country we were and the people whence we came are near constant.

And if we cannot live together amicably, secession from one another, personally, politically, and even territorially, seems the ultimate alternative.

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of a new book, “Nixon’s White House Wars: The Battles That Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever.”

I hope so. Not that tribalism is awesome, but liberal democracy is just too flawed to be left unchecked.

Even in allegedly successful multicultural democracies (Canada, Australia, New Zealand), you can feel the tribal cracks forming. If these societies are stressed in any way, they can easily become less democratic. And that’s not even accounting for non-whites who are generally less enthusiastic about upholding liberal democratic values. So ironically, liberal democracy’s own love of diversity may be its own undoing.

Exactly. Too many dopey white liberals confuse non-whites’ tribal self-interest with a genuine embrace of liberal values and moral universalism.

Moral universalism will always be a uniquely white phenomenon.

I think it’s because whites have a tendency to dominate others – not only physically, but morally as well. Maybe moral universalism is just a cover tactic – much like the Emancipation Proclamation was – “We invaded them, killed them, destroyed their institutions, and now we will put them on the wrong side of history.”
Paul Craig Roberts(the guy with three first names) recently wrote a great essay on the issue.

Exactly right. Democracy always ends in failure.

  5. Liberal democracy can only exist in a homogenous society, if then.

Once you introduce different races, ethnicities and religious groups into a country, they will vote along tribal lines. That is not democracy, just splitting the pie.

  7. The main MYTHS behind Zionism are 1) Jews are the “chosen” people of God 2) God promised Canaan (Israel) to the jews vebally to Abraham 3) Jews are hated and persecuted minority. NONE of those myths hold considerable weight, that’s why they are MYTHS. The Jews cite the (Christian Bible)to make such claims while privately hold the bible as idolatry, christian paganism, jews worship the Talmud, Kabalah, Zohar equally written by men, and with equally fantastic, uncorrobated mythology abundant in jewish racism, full of hate for NON jews. But the original biblical text never called the jews the chosen people, never said that God promised Canaan to the jews and that jews were victims of persecution (NTestament) The Bible had been edited, altered, rewritten to fit the jewish agenda. Jews denounce Christian miracles, sacraments, as fantastical paganism while proposing equally dellusional historical accounts, miracles, illogical, irrational dogmas. In fact as Edward Gibbons once observed the JEWS operate a lot better under triabalism which main bedrock argument is that Gentiles, NON jews are going to exterminate them. The Rothchilds knew this jewish syndrome and exploued it masterfully after engineering the Holocaust, Israel was not created for the jews, it was created by/for the benefoit of the Rotschilds Financial empire that needed a “state/nationa” like creature to become its main world Headquaters for world domination…Israel was founded and maintain by the profound JEWISH fear, hate, paranoia, against the NONjews..which is not more/less than the suffering of other racial/ethnic groups…and the Rothschilds will keep fanning jewish fear and paranoia, psychopathic perception of the NONjews, and encourage a perpetual state of WAR jews Vrs. Palestinians,Arbas,Muslims, Christians, NON jews…Israel’s main existencial force/motive is FEAR/Hate/Paranoia…

You do realize the Colonial America was not a homogenous society, right? It consisted of different ethnic groups, some of whom had been hostile to one another in Continental Europe. Yet, they came together as one and created our government…of the people, by the people, and for the people.

“Once you introduce different races, ethnicities and religious groups into a country, they will vote along tribal lines.”

Actually, most people, especially Americans, vote according to ideology.

“You do realize the Colonial America was not a homogenous society, right? It consisted of different ethnic groups, some of whom had been hostile to one another in Continental Europe.”

…but 100% of voters were white male landowners and overwhelmingly descended from the British, so your thesis falls flat. It’s hard to tell a second generation Irish guy from a third generation Scott but not so much a Scott and an African. You’re thesis further fails on numerous other occasions where significant diversity is involved: Lebanon, Iraq, South Africa, Libya, Syria, Zimbabwe, Venezuela, India (constant violence between Muslims and Hindus), Ukraine (ethnic Russians vs. ethnic Ukrainians), Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, parts of Asia where Chinese minorities are discriminated against …

Far more often than not, extreme racial diversity is a burden rather than a blessing. This should be obvious. It’s one thing to note that a 90% racially homogenous society functions, but it is entirely another to assert with certainty based on the same rationale that a 30, 30, 30, 10% society will still function in the same way. More likely, any such society is only temporarily stable. Even in California, a state with one of the greatest concentrations of wealth in the world, there are serious efforts to split the state up – and tacitly along racial lines (and only recently defeated by non-democratic means); there are also non-trivial efforts pushed by non-white minorities to have California seceded from the Union, supporters even have a Cal-Exit comic book.

You’re like the guy who looks at the Soviet Union circa 1980 and thinks that it will last forever when it should have been obvious even at that time that it would not, and mainly due to ethnic differences; if the Soviet Union had been 100% ethnic Russian, it would still be here in the present day.

“Actually, most people, especially Americans, vote according to ideology.”

Blantant lie. Racial and ethnic affiliation is the number one determinant of who you’ll vote for in any given election; the more diverse an area, the higher the probability a white will vote republican. As American has Balkanized, the republican share of the white vote has concomitantly increased; Romney even won more white youth votes 18-35 than Obama did in 2012, and I’m certain that had little to do with ideology.

I say “lie” because Sailer has repeatedly cited studies which prove this, and I know you stalk that guy’s blog. Otherwise, socially conservative blacks would be voting republican and Bernie Sanders would have beaten Hillary Clinton in heavily-black Southern states; in both situations, blacks voted for the candidate they thought would be best for their racial group, regardless of ideology on gays or immigration, which they are closer to republicans on, or socialism, which they are closer to Sanders on.

“Yet, they came together as one and created our government…of the people, by the people, and for the people.”

No, they didn’t. The overwhelming majority of voters were of English descent, and the Revolutionary War was quite unpopular at the time; if left to a democratic referendum, it would have failed. White Englishman decided to seize power and kick out the crown. That was the Revolutionary War. Non-British immigration only became significant later.

…or we could secede and have our own country. This would seem to be the OBVIOUS solution. But why do people, even here on this blog, ignore this suggestion? Do you really think that these people can’t rule over Idaho from Washington, where all the power is? What’s wrong with you people?

    • “For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure.” Deuteronomy 7:6

    Furthermore, the Bible says:

    • “WE WORSHIP what we do know, for salvation is from THE JEWS.” John 4:22

    • “THE JEW FIRST.” Romans 1:16

    • “For if the Gentiles have shared in the Jews’ spiritual blessings, they OWE IT TO THE JEWS to share with them their material blessings.” Romans 15:27

Were the native Indians included in this? You do realize that the American Indians are people too. The colonialism started way back then and still continues. White man invaded and plundered the land owned by the Indians. Now that we don’t have anything to invade here, we invade far away lands.

Pat forgot to use the one word that is used to describe this nation, i.e. “Exceptional.” We are exceptional nation that invades non-white lands, kills or displaces millions of inhabitants, and plunders their resources. All in the name of democracy. Yet we interfere in other lands that do practice democracies and overthrow governments like Iran (Mosaddaq), Egypt (Morsi), Palestine (Hamas), and Lebanon (Hezbollah) because these were democracies not to our liking.

United States was born out of other people’s land. We took by force Indian land, killed them, burned men, women, and children, destroyed their crops, killed their food (Bison) for fun. Took Texas and California from Mexico. Hawaii was stolen from the Hawaiians. We even took away the name of the continent for ourselves. Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, Ecuadorians, etc. are as much American as we are.

We need to look for who is behind this neoliberalism and neoconservatism and root out that parasite and we will solve our problems. All the problems that Pat mentioned started with making Antisemitism against the law. When we attacked the first amendment in this case, everything became fair game. Just like exclusive use of “Americans” for the citizens of US, the exclusive use of “Semites” for the Jews is totally misleading. The “exceptional” and the “chosen” people are the problem. The rest of the world is fine.

    Wrong.

    Matthew 21:43
Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God (covenant relationship) shall be taken from you (Jews), and given to a nation (NT church) bringing forth the fruits thereof.

Jews ceased to be God’s chosen when they rejected Christ and then God put an end to His covenant with them (Hebrews 8:13).

Romans 9:4 doesn’t support the Jews as God’s present “chosen” people. Romans 9:6 clearly speaks of two Israels, one is the nation of Israel, no longer God’s chosen people as Romans 9:8 makes abundantly clear, and true Israel, the NT church (Galatians 6:16). Further, Paul the apostle makes it abundantly clear that, rather than being chosen, the Jews are enemies of God & under His wrath (1 Thess 2:14-16).

Your Deut 7:6 reference is irrelevant as the NT plainly demonstrates the Jews were cutoff by God and are no longer chosen.

John 4:22 has ZERO bearing on Jews presently being God’s chosen people. ZERO. The whole point of that verse is that the OT prophesies announced that salvation would come through a Jewish line, which it did in the person of Christ.

Romans 1:16 More ignorance. The whole point is that salvation was first offered to the Jewish people through the preaching of Christ and His apostles. Its not highlighting some kind of supremacy or “chosenness”.

Romans 15:27 Go back and read vv. 25-26 o’ brilliant one. The whole point is sending money to poor Christians in Jerusalem and Paul speaking of the propriety of their generosity in light of the fact that they’d been beneficiaries of the gospel which was brought to them out of Jerusalem via apostles/other ministers.

Only retards use/cite the NIV by the way. That partly explains your Romans 9:4 error.

Get your history straight Pat, before you start spouting off your own brand of demagoguery. Ukraine did not secede from Russia, but decided to pursue its own path of independent statehood after Russia decided to exit the Soviet Union (remember the Soviet Union, Pat?). Ukraine was a constituent state, a part of the Soviet Union by the early 1920′s. It was such a state for many historical reasons – you need to expand your knowledge of East European history before you start foolishly pontificating about it!

“The Swiss have the best government arrangement. It’s all about community and local control. It is all run by local voting.”

No, they don’t. They merely have a government that works given the diverse composition of the country. Further disrupt the country’s very delicate demographics, and that will change; we saw something very much like that in Lebanon. The Swiss also don’t have much of an ability to pursue their own destiny as a result of division; that’s why they were neutral in all those wars, not because they were morally superior but because they couldn’t take a side without destroying their country – each demographic would have chosen a side based upon linguistic or ethnic affiliation.

A better arrangement would be to have a government chosen by a homogeneous, highly capable population – Taiwan, South Korea, Japan. Those governments are stable over the long term whereas there is a non-zero probability that Switzerland might collapse at some point. Let’s say that Italy and France break away from the EU one day under very acrimonious circumstances. I could imagine internal divisions within Switzerland breaking the country up given the right set of conditions in that case. That would never happen with Japan, not as long as they don’t make the mistake of giving away their ethnic homogeneity.

Also, Switzerland’s style of government probably couldn’t scale up to US proportions, perhaps not even to German proportions. Lastly, Switzerland’s style of government probably wouldn’t be stable long term in any other location. The US federal system, for example, has collapsed to a unitary government in all but name – federal judges rule by decree and the federal government can bully state and local governments through withholding federal funds.

“The only safe, sane, and rational identity is to community and to local geography.”

That’s a ridiculously backwards-looking idea. This isn’t 1760 anymore. Countries need to pull together large resources from large non-local populations in order to invent things and get things done. Most of the gasoline used in California is refined in Southern States and most of the movies watched in places like Indiana are made by companies in a small region of the West Coast.

Your idea only works if you are happy being Montenegro or some other equally unimportant place.

“Identifying with neighbors – loving your neighbors – building safety with your neighbors, are all rational acts.”

Isn’t that what nationalism is? Identifying with an organization made up of people who are like yourself for the common good of all?

“Identifying with tribe, always in the long run leads to coercion.”

Works well for the Japanese. But then again, they are all one large tribe – a nation state.

    “Abhorrent nationalism must die.”

Even the people who complain about multiculturalism have unwittingly adopted some of its maxims.

It’s either that or we end up like South Africa – a racist leader threatens to commit genocide on us publicly while stealing our property. I think Trump should call off future elections and remain president. We can use that time t0 restore out country’s demographics to 90% white Caucasian and redistribute the upperclass to our people and out of the hands of Israelis and their racist allies.
