The release of the Mueller report has left Democrats in a dilemma. For consider what Robert Mueller concluded after two years of investigation.

Candidate Donald Trump did not conspire or collude with the Russians to hack the emails of the DNC or John Podesta. Trump did not distribute the fruits of those crimes. Nor did anyone in his campaign. On collusion and conspiracy, said Mueller, Trump is innocent.

Mueller did not say Trump did not consider interfering with his investigation. But the investigation went on unimpeded. Mueller’s document demands were all met. And Mueller did not conclude that Trump obstructed justice.

On obstruction, then, not guilty, by reason of no indictment.

We are told Trump ranted to subordinates about firing Mueller.

Yet, as Attorney General Bill Barr pointed out, Trump had excellent reasons to be enraged. He was being pilloried for 2 1/2 years for a crime he not only did not commit but a crime that had never taken place.

From the fall of 2016 to the spring of 2019, Trump was subjected to scurrilous attacks. It was alleged that his victory had been stolen for him by Russians, that he was an illegitimate president guilty of treason, and an agent of the Kremlin, that he was being blackmailed and that he rewrote the Republican platform on Vladimir Putin’s instructions.

All bull hockey, and Mueller all but said so.

Yet the false charges did serious damage to his presidency and the nation.

Answering them has consumed much of Trump’s tenure and ruined his plans to repair our dangerously damaged relations with the world’s other great nuclear power.

Yet, it is the Trump haters who are now in something of a box.

Their goal had been to use “Russiagate” to bring down their detested antagonist, overturn his 2016 election, and put Trump in the history books as a stooge of Putin who, had the truth be known, would never have won the White House.

Mueller failed to sustain their indictment. Indeed, Mueller all but threw it out.

Yet Trump’s enemies will not quit now. To do so would be to concede that Trump’s defenders had been right all along, and that they had not only done a grave injustice to Trump but damaged their country with their manic pursuit. And they owe America an apology.

And admitting they were wrong would instantly raise follow-up questions.

If two years of investigation by Mueller, his lawyers and his FBI agents could not unearth hard evidence to prove that Trump and his campaign conspired with the Russians, what was the original evidence that justified launching this historic and massive assault on a U.S. presidential campaign and the presidency of the United States.

If there was no collusion, when did Mueller learn this? Did it take 2 1/2 years to discover there was no conspiracy?

The names tossed out as justifying the original investigation are George Papadopoulos and Carter Page, with the latter subjected to four consecutive secret FISA court surveillance warrants.

Yet neither man was ever charged with conspiring with Russia.

Was “Russiagate” a nothingburger to begin with, a concocted excuse for “deep state” agencies to rampage through the campaign and personal history of Trump to destroy him and his presidency?

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a presidential candidate, has called for impeachment hearings in the House Judiciary Committee. But her call seems less tied to evidence of high crimes in the Mueller report than her own anemic poll ratings and fundraising performance in the first quarter.

ORDER IT NOW

It is difficult to see how those Democrats and their media allies, who have invested so much prestige and so many hopes in the Mueller report, can now pack it in and concede that they were wrong. Their interests will not permit it; their reputations could not sustain it.

So where are we headed?

The anti-Trump media and second-tier candidates for the Democratic nomination will press the front-runners to join their call for impeachment. Some will capitulate to the clamor.

But can Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Beto O’Rourke, Pete Buttigieg or Kamala Harris, who have agendas they wish to advance, accept becoming just another voice crying out for Trump’s impeachment?

The credibility of the Democratic Party is now at issue.

If Mueller could not find collusion, what reason is there to believe Rep. Jerry Nadler’s judiciary committee will find it, and then convince the country that they have discovered what ex-FBI Director Mueller could not.

With conspiracy and collusion off the table, and Mueller saying the case for obstruction is unproven, the renewed attack on Trump takes on the aspect of a naked and desperate “deep state”-media coup against a president they fear they cannot defeat at the ballot box.

What is it with some of you people with your obsession with Bolton and plans for an imminent attack on Iran? Are you privy to inside intelligence? If so, please share! But even if that happened, how would that be automatic grounds for impeachment?

I wish some of you on the Right, along with the nuts on the Left, would quit clamoring for impeachment. It is one of the worst things that can happen to a supposed free nation and should occur under only the most egregious circumstances and with the support of the population at large. It should not be used, or even threatened to be used, every four years when the person in office does something you don’t like or is not someone you voted for. As far as I’m concerned, none of the prior impeachments or threats of impeachment (Andrew Johnson, Nixon, Clinton) should have occurred, and I think it is dangerous that it seems to be talked up with greater and greater frequency with each passing year. We need stability in leadership (hence, four-year terms) and not to topple (or even threaten to topple) the elected leader in a Third World-type coup.

I hated Obama and think he was damaging to our country in ways that will take us years to amend, but he was duly elected, and those of us who despised him had to deal with it. If you don’t like Trump or who he surrounds himself with, deal with it. Vote against him in 2020 and, in the meantime, quit yammering about “impeachment.”

Note: Depending on the circumstances, I will reconsider this position if we attack Iran under Trump and Bolton.

I don’t know whether the Russians have to do much to ensure that their fellow travelers in the media continue to stoke chaos, particularly after the events of the past 2+ years…any more than Obama had to issue direct orders to the IRS to have them target Tea Partiers, to the Clinton campaign, intelligence community, and Deep State to have dream up a phony accusation of Russian collusion, or to obtain FISA warrants on false pretenses to spy on Trump and his campaign. Tacit collusion doesn’t necessarily require even a wink and a nod.

Gérard Araud, France’s outgoing envoy to the US, dubbed Israel an “apartheid state” in a farewell interview with the Atlantic magazine on Friday and suggested that the secret plan is “very close to what the Israelis want” and 99 percent “doomed to fail.”

Still, Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, are exerting “immense pressure” on the Palestinians to accept Trump’s deal, a senior Fatah official told Iran’s Press TV on Monday. Those countries are “using all means, including political and financial blackmail” to force Palestinians into agreeing with the deal “despite all the dangers it poses to the Palestinian cause.”

However, there are many Jews who are not like that and are “on our side.”

I just get tired of Americans slamming this country for all its shortcomings or misdeeds and without offering any practical solution other than to hate other Americans who supposedly support our being a “toady” to Israel. What’s wrong with just supporting Israel, a sliver of a country that was recognized by the U.N. as a sovereign country? Here’s an idea: why don’t equatorial people try emigrating east or west instead of north? Let Hondurans move to Nicaragua or Venezuela. Let Nigerians emigrate to Congo or Ethiopia. Let Syrians move to Jordan and Saudi Arabia and Iran. What law of the universe says that Europe or the US must roll out red carpets? We are not responsible for the fact that equatorial women are popping out babies like dogs have litters. We could accept hundreds of millions, n still the endless tide of flesh will come!

  67. AOC is an evil POS. You can see it in her face, along with the incipient ugliness that will be her due as she ages. When she hits 39 years old, she will be truly ugly, probably grotesque from all the hatred and lies consuming her inside.

This thing that passes for a woman is constantly in the news, and older Democrats are constantly kow-towing to her, regardless of the idiocy she spews. Ever wonder why? It’s because the ideology she represents is progressive. That means it lurches along from one atrocity to the next, from one generation to the next. The atrocities it commits can be either mental, emotional, or physical, but they are all atrocities perpetrated on humanity. Every Democrat senses in their gut that she is the next wave, the next coming thing of the left, and so they defer to her.

Don’t be gulled by her seeming stupidity, she is truly dangerous. She is exactly the kind of zealot who ends up being called “commissar”, who gets to be in control of the local reeducation camp, who gets to hold the power of life and death over those she deems her political enemies. Unless she is stopped now, someday you will be forced to kneel meekly in front of her as she fires a bullet into your brain. Don’t let that day ever happen.

You mean AOC is perfectly qualified for AIPAC/ZOA membership and is a shoe-in for trump’s cabinet?

Now, those folks are really dangerous.

  69. Many people here seem to think that the winning Trump agenda item was mostly a foreign-policy thing. I am pretty sure that Trump won mostly due to his promise to end mass-scale, welfare-dependent, wage-undercutting immigration, albeit a non-interventionist foreign policy was a side perk of electing him.

Can you blame the failure to achieve the People’s Agenda Item 1 on Mueller?

I am not so sure since Agenda Item 1 for the early Trump Administration, with its 2-house Republican majority advantage, got promptly passed: a big tax cut for stock-buyback corporations; a tax cut for smaller businesses employing a lot of part-time-working moms & noncitizens with welfare-covered bills; a tax cut for heavy-hitting political donors and heirs and one more neoliberal tax-return uphike for progressive-tax-code-favored parents in their family-friendly, absenteeism-friendly, above-firing, crony-parent jobs.

The Administration was not too distracted by the oppressive FBI probe to get that selective tax cutting done for its favorites.

If Trump was derailed on the immigration issue by Mueller’s intrusive probe of a Russia-obsessed nothingburger, he should now be working as hard as a straight-commission salesperson with no spousal income, no access to monthly welfare income boosters and no refundable child tax credit treats up to $6,431 that hoist up earned income for moms and legal / illegal immigrants with US-born kids in single-breadwinner households, when they stay under the earned-income limits for welfare by working part time—and not very hard—just like many of our legislators.

It is hard even for a high-ranking salesperson, like the POTUS, to get in touch with a legislator who is bought off by the Cheap Labor Lobby, especially when s/he is off from a six-figure, family-friendly job a lot, working only 212 days out of 365 for a pay package with lifetime benefits from taxpayers @ 174k.

But futile or not, Trump should be humping it, like that single, childless, non-womb-privileged 1099 salesperson with no spousal income and no rent-covering child support, trying to make enough money to cover unaffordable rent in a no-guaranteed income, no-benefits, straight-commission job, with twice-as-high SS taxation and expenses o’ plenty uncovered by his / her tax-cut-recipient “employer.”

Since the Mueller Report is no longer hanging over his head, Trump is now free to pursue every lead, chasing down every prospective Senate and House vote, trying to get what he promised the people on immigration done, even if there is no guarantee that the Congress Critters will comply, just like there is no guaranteed income for so many of America’s non-crony “job holders.”

Refresher Script: The People’s Agenda Item #1 was not another giant, Reagan-inspired amnesty, this time for so-called dreamers. That is not what put Trump in office. That is not what we expected him to work hard for.

Instead, we got showers of tax-break dollars from broke Uncle Sam with his $21 trillion debt, falling into the pocketbooks of businesses in a country where 95 million citizens (ages 16 to 65) are out of the labor force and tax cuts for dual-earner parents, taking two family-friendly, absenteeism-friendly jobs per household even when one spouse makes enough to support the household in style, in an “employed” labor pool in which half of all workers work only part time.

The people expected Trump to pursue immigration reform first, limiting the number of new, legal immigrants to reasonable numbers and stopping illegal immigration, rather than raising the number of legal immigrants, as Trunp did after giving their employers a tax cut even though they are often hiring noncitizens.

The campaign was like one of those get-one-over scam-job interviews, the ones with the lengthy promotional film making six-figure promises and demanding hundreds in lead money from job applicants who have already paid the state for licensing, plus jumping through multiple, biannual testing hoops, adding a legally required piece o’ paper to a useless bachelor’s degree in many cases, then finding out that the corporate offices are mostly staffed with non-licensed crony-absentee moms who have spousal income or welfare and child tax credits that make up for the non-rent-covering wages.

Turn out to vote or meet the quotas by working your can off for straight commission and no benefits, doing your civic or work duty, but don’t expect a return on promises made in a Scammer Job or a Scammer Nation.

Excuses, excuses – for the President that is Endgame Napoleon (or is it “Emperor of Endless Excuse”?)

You instruct us that the president couldn’t deliver on his promises to his voters because the Mueller investigation was hanging over his head.

Of course, that didn’t stop Trump from delivering for Israel. He just gave and gave and gave to to those foreigners – while doing absolutely nothing for his own citizens.

Now you want us to believe that’s all going to change? That’s a good one.

No wonder Trump’s TDS-afflicted supporters have nothing else to do except obsess about AOC, the president has left them no choice.
