Now that the British have voted to secede from the European Union and America has chosen a president who has never before held public office, the French appear to be following suit.

In Sunday’s runoff to choose a candidate to face Marine Le Pen of the National Front in next spring’s presidential election, the center-right Republicans chose Francois Fillon in a landslide.

While Fillon sees Margaret Thatcher as a role model in fiscal policy, he is a socially conservative Catholic who supports family values, wants to confront Islamist extremism, control immigration, restore France’s historic identity and end sanctions on Russia.

“Russia poses no threat to the West,” says Fillon. But if not, the question arises, why NATO? Why are U.S. troops in Europe?

As Le Pen is favored to win the first round of the presidential election and Fillon the second in May, closer Paris-Putin ties seem certain. Europeans themselves are pulling Russia back into Europe, and separating from the Americans.

Next Sunday, Italy holds a referendum on constitutional reforms backed by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. If the referendum, trailing in the polls, fails, says Renzi, he will resign.

Opposing Renzi is the secessionist Northern League, the Five Star Movement of former comedian Beppe Grillo, and the Forza Italia of former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, a pal of Putin’s.

“Up to eight of Italy’s troubled banks risk failure,” if Renzi’s government falls, says the Financial Times. One week from today, the front pages of the Western press could be splashing the newest crisis of the EU.

In Holland, the Party for Freedom of Geert Wilders, on trial for hate speech for urging fewer Moroccan immigrants, is running first or close to it in polls for the national election next March.

Meanwhile, the door to the EU appears to be closing for Muslim Turkey, as the European Parliament voted to end accession talks with Ankara and its autocratic president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In welcoming Muslim immigrants, Germany’s Angela Merkel no longer speaks for Europe, even as she is about to lose her greatest ally, Barack Obama.

Not only Europe but the whole world President-elect Trump is about to inherit seems in turmoil, with old regimes and parties losing their hold, and nationalist, populist and rightist forces rising.

Early this year, Brazil’s Senate voted to remove leftist President Dilma Rousseff. In September, her predecessor, popular ex-President Lula da Silva, was indicted in a corruption investigation. President Michel Temer, who, as vice president, succeeded Rousseff, is now under investigation for corruption. There is talk of impeaching him.

Venezuela, endowed with more oil than almost any country on earth, is now, thanks to the Castroism of Hugo Chavez and successor Nicolas Maduro, close to collapse and anarchy.

NATO’s Turkey and our Arab ally, Egypt, both ruled by repressive regimes, are less responsive to U.S. leadership.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye, her approval rating in single digits, is facing impeachment and prosecution for corruption.

Meanwhile, North Korea, under Kim Jong Un, continues to test nuclear warheads and missiles that can hit all of South Korea and Japan and reach all U.S. bases in East Asia and the Western Pacific.

ORDER IT NOW

The U.S. is obligated by treaty to defend South Korea, where we still have 28,500 troops, and Japan, as well as the Philippines, where new populist President Rodrigo Duterte, cursing the West, is pivoting toward Beijing. Malaysia and Australia are also moving closer to China, as they become ever more dependent on the China trade.

Responding to our moving NATO troops into Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, Putin has begun a buildup of nuclear-capable offensive and defensive missiles in Kaliningrad, its enclave between Poland and Lithuania.

Should we get into a confrontation with the Russians in the Eastern Baltic, how many of our NATO allies, some now openly pro-Putin, would stand beside us?

The point: Not only is the Cold War over, the post-Cold War is over. We are living in a changed and changing world. Regimes are falling. Old parties are dying, new parties rising. Old allegiances are fraying, and old allies drifting away.

The forces of nationalism and populism have been unleashed all over the West and all over the world. There is no going back.

Yet U.S. policy seems set in concrete by war guarantees and treaty commitments dating back to the time of Truman and Stalin and Ike and John Foster Dulles.

America emerged from the Cold War, a quarter century ago, as the sole superpower. Yet, it seems clear that we are not today so dominant a nation as we were in 1989 and 1991.

We have great rivals and adversaries. We are deeper in debt. We are more divided. We’ve fought wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen that availed us nothing. What we had, we kicked away.

America is at a plastic moment in history.

And America needs nothing so much as reflective thought about a quarter century of failures — and fresh thinking about her future.

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of the new book “The Greatest Comeback: How Richard Nixon Rose From Defeat to Create the New Majority.”

  1. Jason Liu says:

As the noose tightens around the global left, the Trump administration should aid the ascent of the global right in order to permanently break egalitarian thinking so it doesn’t come back to haunt the world again.

He should pay close attention to nationalist elements around the world, because left alone, white/western culture and political thinking is especially vulnerable to more cycles of leftism in the future. It is nonwhite, non-western countries that are more resistant and aggressive against egalitarian ideas. That cultural and political immunity should be appropriated by the west, and turned against its domestic left.

  2. It’s a mistake, I believe, to still think of the world as a collection of nations, interacting among themselves. We’re in a new, global world. The US goes to war not to ‘avail us’ something, but for the benefit of global capital. Division of labor has gone international: the US is an enforcer. Germany produces expensive cars. India does software. China manufactures cheap junk.

What we’re observing now is a global (or, at least, Western) backlash against this arrangement. But it has nothing to do with any “quarter century of failures”, and “reflective thought” is not going to help. It’s an evolutionary process, where individuals, or even national-level institutions, have no real power whatsoever…

    Some questions to ponder:

Do Israeli television ads show Jewish women with Muslim men ? With black men? With Asian men?

Do Chinese television ads show Chinese women with white men ? With black men? With Japanese men? With Korean men?

Do Japanese television ads show Japanese women with white men ? With black men? With Chinese men? With Korean men?

Do Korean television ads show Korean women with white men? With black men? With Chinese men? Japanese men?

Of course not…then why do American ads show white women with black men? Not to mention many television shows

  4. I had occasion to do something at the weekend that I almost never do anymore; watch TV, specifically CNN. I was amazed at how anti Trump it is. Even if a story had seemingly nothing to do with him, they’d work in an unflattering angle somehow, if nothing more than a snarky remark by one of the people who pose as journalists there.

The globalists aren’t going down without a fight but there is a peevishness about their efforts that gives one a sense of confidence in the future.

  7. I think people are mistaken if they believe populism-nationalism can reverse trends and/or “solve” our problems. Those who turn to candidates of this stripe expecting a return to the past are doomed to disappointment, and they will be a source of unrest as they flop from “ism” to “ism” seeking relief.

The debt and unfunded obligations in the world are not payable without vast amounts of money printing and that “solution” will cause its own disruptions. Populations are ridiculously mixed and the strife that mixing will cause is unavoidable.

Populism-nationalism can halt certain trends and put nations in a better position to weather the coming storms, but those who cannot see the storms coming will be caught unprepared and unawares.

The coming wars will be survived by some, but not won by any.

    Really?

But you do have a point- blacks are quite as much American as the rest of us, maybe more so in some cases. This doesn’t explain the interracial propaganda, which is a new thing, “Othello” notwithstanding. I notice white/(latin of various sorts) pairings are either not as common or not as visible in TV, though I imagine they would be in reality.

  13. @anonymous

This doesn’t explain the interracial propaganda, which is a new thing

Actually, ‘race’ itself is a relatively new thing. It didn’t exist before the 17th century, and consequently “interracial” didn’t exist either. People were categorized by their religions and languages, but never by their skin pigmentations. Nobody cared. And yet humankind survived somehow.

Yeah, more or less. And “Othello” isn’t propaganda of any kind, just a good play. But for some reason the powers-that-be in America today, who most assuredly do care about race, are pushing the black man/white woman dynamic as far as it can go. Why? I don’t know. To demoralize whites? To show the virtue of the producers? Maybe. I would suspect an effort to break down the cohesiveness of white American culture, but a) white American culture isn’t all that cohesive anyway and b) media moguls aren’t that smart or that coordinated. In the end I really don’t care, since I don’t watch enough television to care about what its producers are trying to do to my head. I was simply venturing anecdotal support of the observation “Realist” made.

I’m not sure there’s any US war I’d call “necessary and defensive” or even “prudent and well-advised” since the 1800s. Perhaps striking the Taliban in Afghanistan, IF they really were involved in 9-11.

  22. @Corvinus

    Sound point generally.

I’ll just quibble about Israel. It does not have a monolithic culture. The Jewish contingent has fallen to about 75% and is still apparently falling somewhat. Arabs constitute about 21% of the country’s population and their share continues to grow due to difference in total fertility rates.

I am an ethno nationalist and believe that Israel has the right and the duty to it’s people to keep the country Jewish. As the white majority countries have a right and duty to keep their countries white. As you say the push to destroy white majority in current white countries is pushed by some Jews and their sycophants, but by no means all Jews. Ashkenazi Jews have a very high average IQ and that is great as long as the greater intelligence is accompanied by morality and integrity. It seems that the Jewish people in science are devoted to their obsession and do not get involved in trying to control other countries. But those Jewish people that get involved in finance and monetary policy are quite light in morality and integrity. They are greedy and self centered and develop ‘financial products’ that are of use to only themselves.

This is of course a generality….but a good one.

Not so with regard to Israel. Jews’ share of “their” country’s population continues to fall. Arabs make up about 21% of Israel’s population and growing, with another almost 5% identifying themselves as neither Jewish nor Arab.

  26. Realist says:

    Not so simple:

    Within the Green Line

5,463,071 Israeli Jews (citizens): have voting rights.
1,361,800 Palestinians (citizens): have voting rights.
318,200 non-Arab Christians, those listed as having no religion, and others (citizens): have voting rights.

    East Jerusalem [*]

186,929 Jews (citizens): have voting rights
255,000 Palestinians (residents): no voting rights for Knesset elections (**); can vote in Jerusalem municipal elections.

    * East Jerusalem and the surrounding towns were annexed to Israel in 1967, but the local Palestinian population was only given “residency” status; the same situation applies to the roughly 18,000 Druze in the Golan Heights, which was annexed to Israel in 1981.
** Some 3,500 Palestinians from East Jerusalem have received Israeli citizenship in the last decade and can therefore vote. Some 700 Druze received citizenship.

    West Bank

325,500 Jews (citizens, living in Area C): have voting rights
1,855,115 Palestinians living in areas A, B, C: no voting rights

    Gaza [***]

    1,710,257 Palestinians: no voting rights.

[**** As I noted, many view Gaza as a separate unit. However, Israel did acknowledge in Oslo the fact that Gaza and the West Bank are one territorial unit]

    Total

7,659,000 people living in Israeli territory have voting rights, while 2,128,115 people have no voting rights. Altogether, one in every 4.5 people is denied political representation; this one person is almost always Palestinian. If Gaza is included, the number of unrepresented climbs to 3,820,372, or roughly one in every three people.

TV shows are brutally competitive and get killed if they don’t make money quickly. If what they show is even slightly unpopular, it will get cancelled fast. I think the same dynamic drives incorporating so much LGBTQXXX themes into shows. I never understood that first as I felt the fraction of LGBTQXXX is much smaller than any nonwhite group too. But, I think LGBTQXXX has some forbidden fruit edginess to the normal audience. So Hollywood is all about money more than any “value”. Same as shareholders: all the outsourcing / offshoring / free trading is to generate more revenues (and return better P/E to shareholders, fund holders, 401(k), IRA etc., ) than any love of foreigners over Americans.

He can get away with it in my book only if he pushes hard and achieves MASS deportation of illegal aliens — as in several million during his first term — builds the damn wall, and gets national voter ID passed.

Any incremental repeal of federal restrictions on property rights and self-defense / gun rights will be big, too. They should enact a national concealed-carry statute and a national stand-your-ground / Castle statute so people can protect their lives and families, especially in their homes.

I don’t expect any reduction of the annual deficit, which is inexcusable.

Nor do I expect Trump to close many military bases abroad, even though we need to close a couple hundred and could save decent money by doing so.

Ultimately, a lot will turn on having Supreme Court Justices who will “allow” much stronger measures to secure the borders, deport illegals, keep non-citizens from voting (which they are apparently doing in some meaningful numbers), and further restore our Second Amendment rights.

What you say is true. There were time periods in American history when the Irish, Italians and others were not wanted in this country. But that is not how I see diversity nor is that how the left sees diversity. The left sees diversity as countries with a majority of white people letting brown and black people immigrate.

I’ve studied the religion at the feet of traditional scholars for over 13 years and I’ve studied the history thoroughly – if you want to cherry pick the stuff that fits your narrative out of sources that are parallel with Christian apocrypha* as far as authenticity is concerned and ignore everything that contradicts your conclusions – again marhaban.

Believe as you wish – the opinions of anonymous posters on the internet make zero difference to me.

*Note: Of course, if we look into Christian apocrypha, the Son of Mary (pbuh) is found doing whack stuff like cursing little kids until they die and then blinding their parents:
“And when Jesus saw what was done, he was wroth and said unto him: O evil, ungodly, and foolish one, what hurt did the pools and the waters do thee? behold, now also thou shalt be withered like a tree, and shalt not bear leaves, neither root, nor fruit. 3 And straightway that lad withered up wholly, but Jesus departed and went unto Joseph’s house. But the parents of him that was withered took him up, bewailing his youth, and brought him to Joseph, and accused him ‘for that thou hast such a child which doeth such deeds.’
IV. 1 After that again he went through the village, and a child ran and dashed against his shoulder. And Jesus was provoked and said unto him: Thou shalt not finish thy course (lit. go all thy way). And immediately he fell down and died. But certain when they saw what was done said: Whence was this young child born, for that every word of his is an accomplished work? And the parents of him that was dead came unto Joseph, and blamed him, saying: Thou that hast such a child canst not dwell with us in the village: or do thou teach him to bless and not to curse: for he slayeth our children.
    V. 1 And Joseph called the young child apart and admonished him, saying: Wherefore doest thou such things, that these suffer and hate us and persecute us? But Jesus said: I know that these thy words are not thine: nevertheless for thy sake I will hold my peace: but they shall bear their punishment. And straightway they that accused him were smitten with blindness”

Visit AE911truth for some facts (no conspiracy theories from the architects and engineers just a detailed description of what did happen that day). What possible role could have been filled by actors in Afghanistan that ties in with any/all of the combined events of that day? I can’t name one.

“Sounds reasonable if you only want the cream of the crop. Let’s propose it and see if it flies.”

Well of course there would be tremendous resistance. It would take someone with big balls to propose it.

“Of course, you might have a giant nation of low-fertility nerds – but that’s a slightly separate issue”

I think the proposed restrictions would limit the number of immigrants. And in our country of 320 million I doubt that too many nerds would be a problem.

  51. Venezuela, endowed with more oil than almost any country on earth, is now, thanks to the Castroism of Hugo Chavez and successor Nicolas Maduro, close to collapse and anarchy.

Is that all there is to it? I know almost nothing about Venezuela, but have some familiarity with ‘Merkin meddling in S America, so I’m a little wary of the veracity of that summary.

But it has nothing to do with any “quarter century of failures”, and “reflective thought” is not going to help. It’s an evolutionary process, where individuals, or even national-level institutions, have no real power whatsoever…

    For sure.

And when I read, “quarter century of failures,” I almost choked. The whole deal was a fraud, and therefore a failure from a responsible and productive person’s point of view, from the start.

Islamists deny the Divinity of Jesus Christ. They are antichrist, Christ deniers.

    Are all Muslims Islamists? Explain.

And what do many Talmudists say about JC? Explain.

    Are all Jews Talmudists?

Are all Zionists Jews? Are all Jews Zionists? Explain.

What do Zionists say about JC?

  54. And America needs nothing so much as reflective thought about a quarter century of failures — and fresh thinking about her future.

Walt Whitman was probably as hard core a patriot as Mr. Buchanan, but compare the above remark with this…

The best class we show, is but a mob of fashionably dress’d speculators and vulgarians. True, indeed, behind this fantastic farce, enacted on the visible stage of society, solid things and stupendous labors are to be discover’d, existing crudely and going on in the background, to advance and tell themselves in time.

Yet the truths are none the less terrible. I say that our New World democracy, however great a success in uplifting the masses out of their sloughs, in materialistic development, products, and in a certain highly-deceptive superficial popular intellectuality, is, so far, an almost complete failure in its social aspects, and in really grand religious, moral, literary, and esthetic results.

    Walt Whitman, DEMOCRATIC VISTAS, 1871

It’s apparent to me that fresh thinking won’t cut it. The only hope is a complete rejection of the whole farce.

  55. And in our country of 320 million I doubt that too many nerds would be a problem.

It’s quite possible that one nerd could turn out to be one too many.

…………..and the hardliners on Iran will be drawing up their war plans.

Any actions by Iran are defensive. The only warmongers in the area are The United States, NATO and Israel. I would throw in Qatar and Saudi Arabia but they cannot accomplish JackS**t without the US. Last I checked Iran had not positoned its Navy off the Mississippi Gulf Coast, the Eastern Seaboard or the California Coastline. Last I checked Iran has not established permanent bases in Canada and Mexico. There’s only one boneheaded country that ROUTINELY finds enemies and bombs enemies situated 11,000 km from its borders. Of course this particular nation has been ruled by a banking elite for the past one hundred years with total control during the last sixty years. The banking elite makes decisions for its own interest and not the interest of the nation. Unfortunately the general population has been too slow to recognize the pure evil of this over-controling PARASITE. Maybe Mr. Trump is the start of something better?

…….A modified repeat of the March 24, 1933 Daily Mail headline would not be out of line….

Oh my gosh, please just write the headline, without fear of reprisal.

    JUDEA DECLARES WAR ON GERMANY
Jews of All the World Unite in Action

    .
By the way the headline actually appeared in the Daily Express, which still exists to this day as and British tabloid published online and in-print from 120 Fleet Street in the City of London, i.e. Banker Central.

The forces of nationalism and populism have been unleashed all over the West and all over the world. There is no going back.

And this is thanks to mass third world immigration, reckless and pointless foreign policy and globalism. And as the racial situation deteriorates throughout the West I hope whites start collectively embracing racialism, white nationalism and if necessary to ensure our survival, secession.

Because the United States is not a monolithic culture compared to Israel, China, Japan, and Korea.

    Israel- Millions of Arabs disagree.
China- Millions of Uighur and Tibetans disagree.

That you, and a lot of people, miss that is a testament to the ability of these two countries to manage their PR well, and for useful idiots in the American media and academia to not question it.

We are a nation of immigrants from all over the world,so of course there are black and white relationships, just as any other.
Yes,the ZNN plays it up,in divide and conquer, and of course Israeli TV does not,and no they aren’t honorable, the assholes.
I wish Pat would let the old commie crap die,as Venezuela has throughout its history,as the whole of Central and South America, inflicted by the worst corrupt scum in history, and Chavez was just a reaction to centuries of abuse.Maduro is no Chavez, and the oil price lowering destroyed any hope for them, and you can bet your sweet bippy we are in the mix also,in helping more corrupt scum in regaining power there.Look at f*cking Brazil.Unbelievable.
The MSM and HRC were and are not not liberals. They were illiberals, who hate free speech, and are only liberal on war, abortion, sexual hedonism and Israel.
Liberals fight for freedom, and have honor,a most unseen quality in today’s American posers,of either rethugs or demoncrats..

  62. @landlubber

Trump can pursue detente with Russia or war with Iran. He can’t have both.

Thanks. It’s popular to blame Venezuela’s problem on Socialism. The real problem is Imperialism.

  64. Corvinus says:

“Perhaps I am more of a racial nationalist as I stated in my correction to comment #25 What you say is true. There were time periods in American history when the Irish, Italians and others were not wanted in this country. But that is not how I see diversity nor is that how the left sees diversity. The left sees diversity as countries with a majority of white people letting brown and black people immigrate.”

Nativists saw diversity as only those ethnic groups from Great Britain as being desirable. Now, the left regards diversity just as the right–enabling people from different walks of life to legally come here.

“No that is an anti stupid white statement. Half of the white population has an IQ of 100 or less. I contend that any white that proposes diluting the white population (genocide) is an idiot. I think that the whites who voted for Hillary is a case study.”

Diluting the white population is not genocide. Talk about a stupid statement. Do you even know what the term actually means?

“I would restrict immigration in to this country to whites with an IQ of 100 or greater. And any race with an IQ of 130 or greater and a interest in STEM endeavors.”

Thankfully, you’re not in charge of immigration.

    I think we’re through here.

  66. Believing that one’s IQ defines their societal value is a clear sign of stupidity. In my opinion.

Someone who can quickly figure how many legs 9 chickens, 4 dogs, and 3 cats have is automatically a valuable member of society? Yeah, right. I’m sure banksters typically have very high IQ. Any schemers.
