“Politics stops at the water’s edge” was a tradition that, not so long ago, was observed by both parties, particularly when a president was abroad, speaking for the nation.

The tradition was enunciated by Sen. Arthur Vandenberg of Michigan in 1947, as many of the Republicans in the 80th Congress moved to back Truman’s leadership in the Cold War against Stalin’s empire.

The tradition lasted until the mid-1960s, when the left wing of the Democratic Party turned viscerally, and even violently, against the war in Vietnam and President Lyndon Johnson.

Republican Presidents Nixon, Reagan and Bush I, with the support of conservative Democrats, led America to final victory in the Cold War

Yet except for brief intervals, like the rallying around George H. W. Bush after the triumphant Gulf War of 1991 and George W. Bush after 9/11, true national unity has never been restored.

Were proof needed, this week provided it.

President Trump flew to Hanoi, Vietnam, to meet North Korea’s dictator. Subject of negotiations: Kim Jong Un’s nuclear weapons, including his missiles that may be able to reach our homeland.

How did the Democratic Party wish the commander in chief well on his mission for America?

During Trump’s first full day in Hanoi, a committee of Nancy Pelosi’s House held a public hearing featuring ex-Trump lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, a convicted perjurer and felon who cut a deal with the prosecution for a reduced sentence.

The city loved it. Cable and network TV coverage went gavel to gavel. Cohen’s testimony crowded out the Trump-Kim summit and even news of aerial clashes between India and Pakistan, two nuclear powers that have fought three wars since independence, 70 years ago.

What were the headlines Trump came home to after refusing to lift sanctions on North Korea, in return for meager concessions Kim offered?

“Cohen Paints Trump as Crooked” was the banner atop page one of The Washington Post. Cohen’s depiction of his old boss was boldly quoted above: “He is a racist. He is a con man. And he is a cheat.”

“Cohen Accuses Trump of Lies and Cover-ups” ran the page-one headline in The New York Times.

“Cohen Declares Trump a Racist, Cheat and Conman” read the huge headline in the Financial Times.

“Cohen Says Trump Guided Coverup” was at the top of page one in The Wall Street Journal.

Trump is denounced for calling media the “enemy of the people.” Yet that media, in news columns as well as editorials, routinely describes him as a racist, sexist, xenophobe, homophobe, Islamophobe and bigot.

Indulging its hatred of Trump is a preoccupation, an obsession of this capital city. Those headlines reveal not only the news judgment of the editors but the agenda of the elite who turn to them first every morning.

ORDER IT NOW

That agenda is the breaking of this president; his disgrace and fall; and, if impeachment proves not possible, his crushing defeat in 2020 and subsequent indictment. Our so-called Dreamers in Washington, D.C., look to the triumphal return to power of the establishment the American people threw out in 2016.

Yet the alliance that seeks to bring down Trump is formidable: deep-state leakers and media collaborators; the Democratic Party and House; most of America’s commentariat; and the cultural elites in the arts, academia and Hollywood.

How far beyond normal politics have the divisions in our society gone? As the Covington Catholic kids found out, wearing a MAGA hat is now seen as a racist provocation.

In the play unfolding, Cohen’s testimony to the House committee was scene one of act one.

Next comes the Mueller report, though it appears Robert Mueller and his team, after investigating for two years, have found no collusion between Trump and Vladimir Putin in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee or the Clinton campaign.

Hence, the hopes of Trump haters are being redirected to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Subjects of investigation: the Trump Organization, the Trump Inaugural Committee, the Trump Foundation, the Trump family and any entity with which Donald Trump has been associated in 40 years.

Again, as the president is chief of state and head of government, he cannot be indicted. He must first be removed from the presidency. But to remove him, Democrats have to impeach him in the House and convict him in a Republican Senate.

If they cannot, they will have to defeat him at the polls.

In 1968, George Wallace of Alabama tore the Southern populist right out of the Democratic Party. Liberals Gene McCarthy, Robert Kennedy and George McGovern then savaged Vice President Hubert Humphrey from the left. The Grant Park rioters did the rest.

Nixon, leading a minority Republican Party, had a compelling argument: “If the Democrats cannot unite their own party, how can they unite the nation?”

Today, a watching world is asking: If you Americans are at war with yourselves over race, religion, morality, culture and politics, if you cannot unite yourselves, how can you unite the world? And around what?

Maybe the American Century is really over.

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of “Nixon’s White House Wars: The Battles That Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever.”

The American Century is clearly over. The world knows it too as they came together recently to defuse the India-Pakistan crisis; American leadership not required. Worse, the end of the American Century may be a best case scenario. The United States itself seems destined for either a police state resembling the Soviet Union or a crackup. Witness NYC cops arresting a 12 year old for chalking heretical graffiti on the sidewalk. This isn’t my country. I have zero loyalty to it. I’m done with it. Boomers and gen-x’rs p*ssed away both their inheritance and mine for short-term gain. The people deserve the government they vote for, and the country they sold down the river. You guys ruined everything.

Let’s hope so. But Mr. Buchanan continues to go down swinging with jingoid cliche’:

“President Trump flew to Hanoi, Vietnam, to meet North Korea’s dictator. Subject of negotiations: Kim Jong Un’s nuclear weapons, including his missiles that may be able to reach our homeland.”

Sounds like something Mr. Pompeo or Ms. Haley would say, doesn’t it? Whether it’s Red or Blue in the White House, enemies of the Empire are always said to be under the control of “dictators” with scary weapons in their personal (“his missiles”) arsenal. Only “we” are to be trusted with that kind of stuff because “our homeland” is the one worthy of protection.

For a different perspective, have a look at Mike Whitney’s “Trump Sabotages North Korea Summit to Appease the Hawks.”

Right there, Pat. That’s when the “American Century” ended.

Truman signed into law what became the National Security State in February of 1947.

Truman also lived to regret it: In the wake of the Kennedy assassination he made an amazing statement on how he’d too late came to hate his hand in creating the CIA (etc). There’s a short but memorable discussion on this in JFK and the Unspeakable by James Douglass.

A secret state is by definition incapable of change. Rules made in secret can’t be challenged because no knowledge of them exists in public.

The tradition lasted until the mid-1960s, when the left wing of the Democratic Party turned viscerally, and even violently, against the war in Vietnam and President Lyndon Johnson.

Not “viscerally” or “violently” enough, apparently. That fight was arranged besides. Charles Kaiser’s book 1968 in America noted that some one in four “rioter” in Chicago was an agent of the federal, state, or even Chicago’s own secret police. No conspiracy, that, Kaiser notes that the figure came from US Army Intelligence. Somehow it got loose.

If they would have known, 21 years after Truman sold them down the river, what was really going on they’d have done in the Republicans too. Targets both blue and red, but it’s way too late now.

“He is a racist. He is a con man. And he is a cheat.”

Trump may be a bit of a con man and a cheat as all billionaires likely are, but he’s not a racist. In 2000, Trump left the Reform Party because David Duke was a member and he pilloried Pat Buchanan for his views on immigration, multiculturalism and affirmative action. The evidence that Trump is a racist is virtually nil but the Democrats know that it will put Trump on the defensive and cast him as a moral reprobate. Let’s not forget that the Democrats are the party of anti-white bigotry and black and brown race chauvinism so this is the pot calling the kettle black.

What concerns me about this charge is that Trump will probably now quadruple down on being anti-racist to disprove this bogus charge. Will he sign on to some form of repamarations (sic)?

Yet the alliance that seeks to bring down Trump is formidable:

Pat forgot to include members of the donor class whore party, a.k.a. the Republican party.

Maybe the American Century is really over.

Let’s hope it is so that (((globalism))) and endless regime change will finally die.

  11. A great nation has three phases: it rises and gains power; then it has to retain that power; when power is on the wane it tries to regain it. That seems to be the pattern of history. https://www.ghostsofhistory.wordpress.com/
It is hard to see what stage a nation is in at any given point because fortunes oscillate. Only with the long-range view of history can we be certain. But if a great nation is divided among itself that division spreads beyond its own borders. If, as Pat Buchanan asks, the American Century is over, the next question is: who does this century belong to? The struggle for that title will doom us all. Those powers seeking to gain should not gloat. The world is already in a state of entropy, never a good sign for the hopes of world peace.

Israel will have to make a deal with Russia.

Watch out for China. They are as evil as Imperial Washington.

The U.S. will balkanize. Perhaps the native born whites will be able to carve out a republic for themselves somewhere in the lower 48. If not they will go the way of the American Indian.

After sixty five years at war with Korea we still cannot get any politician who wants to end this openended war. After eighteen years I a futile losing war in Afghanistan we cannot get any troops out if there because of the blood lust of the deep state. If they are not killing infants as they are being born or indiscriminately dropping bombs throughout the world the American establishment is forcing a culture of death and depravity on its people. Right. I lived through the 1960s, in NYC, Jewish friends, East Village during Summer of Love. Everything was props, the activists were theatrical type actors, the ideology was idiotic, up to this level:

and Reich’s _Greening of America_. Hunter S. Thompson’s _Hell’s Angels_ was at a higher level than either of the two ideological works.

The entire movement (bombers included) was props for various groups of governmental insiders to do whatever they damned well felt like because “the people demanded it”.

At about that time, my high school one day moved everybody into the gymnasium, and there, waiting for us, was the student government, already in session and seated, which passed an “anti-smoking” resolution right in front of us. We were told that we, ourselves, had spontaneously (through our representatives) approved a smoking ban, which the school would enforce. Then we all went back to class.
And that’s been US government ever since. Political theater with a bad plot.

What does “America” -in its incarnation as the financial-military industrial-entertainment and media complex- even represent anymore? Making the world safe for sodomites and trannies while further gutting the historical American people’s standard of living? Making war on weaker nations for the sake of Goldman Sachs and that piece of merde currently polluting the Middle East? Protecting international centralized usury with cruise missiles and dirty CIA subversion? Spreading the worst form of negroid ghetto cultural poison and passing it off as “American”? (Dumberican would be a better way of putting it.

The American government was hijacked at least from the day that people started to chant: “Remember the Maine, to hell with Spain” and when a corrupt bunch of international usurers and compromised senators enslaved the American people to usura. And it only got worse from there. The American Golem laid the groundwork for the destruction of the Europe of Nations in 1917-1918, then completed that destruction- with the aid and abetting of its predatory British sidekick and its soon to be “Cold War enemy” when it destroyed what General Patton deemed the “best race in Europe.”

America was only great when its government and people were synchronized to make the United States a great tellurocratic power to serve as a home to those of European Christian provenance fleeing the dynastic struggles and economic upheavals afflicting the Continent.

Had friends both in college and construction in NYC when I was in the navy, especially in 69-70 when I was close by and got to town fairly often. They put me up. Showed me the town. Fine of them in retrospect.

One night in a walking tour we came to the theatre where HAIR was playing, where that song came from, and I asked, “Worth it?” The lone native New Yorker among us replied with disgust, “Tourist trap, fella!”

You seem to have a soft spot for the Red squad (of THE PARTY), Franz. I agree with you on your thoughts on the creation of the CIA and USSA Security State. I believe it was the WWII OSS that morphed into the CIA, as I recall.

However, the ctrl-left has always been bent on destruction of traditional America, while the statist right, those that did not defend Barry Goldwater, for example, were UN-intentionally destroying the country. Either way, during that 1960’s turmoil, most on both sides needed to get their asses kicked. Note that Buchanan cavalierly throws in the word “true”, as in there is but only one definitive “national unity”, and the word “never”, as in America’s state as being joined by the whole was severely damaged and has yet to fully recover.

“During Trump’s first full day in Hanoi, a committee of Nancy Pelosi’s House held a public hearing featuring ex-Trump lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, a convicted perjurer and felon who cut a deal with the prosecution for a reduced sentence.”

It was a shit show. The right wingers are conveniently downplaying Trump’s botched efforts, as if North Korea was remotely serious to give up its nuclear program to the West.

“During Trump’s first full day in Hanoi, a committee of Nancy Pelosi’s House held a public hearing featuring ex-Trump lawyer and “fixer” Michael Cohen, a convicted perjurer and felon who cut a deal with the prosecution for a reduced sentence.”

LOL. The reason why Cohen perjured himself was because he was protecting Trump and lied under oath to Congress. Trump sung Cohen’s praises. Now that the walls are closing in, Trump and company are pulling out all the stops to discredit him. Just because Cohen did bad things and lied does not mean he is other than capable of offering compelling testimony.

At least Patrick is acknowledging the hearings. Our resident NOTICER Mr. Sailer is fixated on hate hoaxes.

“Next comes the Mueller report, though it appears Robert Mueller and his team, after investigating for two years, have found no collusion between Trump and Vladimir Putin in the hacking of the Democratic National Committee or the Clinton campaign.”

The Mueller report MAY be coming, and there is specific evidence about collusion on a number of fronts. Mr. Buchanan, having served under a president who engaged in similar conduct, has a significant blind spot.

“In 1968, George Wallace of Alabama tore the Southern populist right out of the Democratic Party…”

By demanding a return to Jim Crow to quench the racial superiority thirst of Southrons. Southerners, however, understood the need to move the nation forward when it came to integration and the rule of law.

“Nixon, leading a minority Republican Party, had a compelling argument: “If the Democrats cannot unite their own party, how can they unite the nation?””

Given how his actions brought abject shame and threatened the unity of the GOP, Patrick’s comment is tragically ironic.

  27. Maybe the American Century is really over.

I wish it were all just the “American Century”. I’d be glad if we just minded our own business, threw off the Socialist yoke that has been foisted upon us for 5 decades (arguably 10), and become a beacon of freedom to the world again. Alas, as others have written above, it’s not just the American Century that is over, but America itself.

Are the good times really over for good?, asked Merle Haggard, when things looked pretty bleak 37 years back. We came back from the “malaise”, it sure seemed, but now is NOT the early ’80’s with America’s still-strongest economy in the world and people still united by common ancestries.

I know that I go nut with the song-embeding on this site, people, but listen to these 3 songs from roughly the same era (1975 – 1982 ), and tell me these songs aren’t unintentionally very prescient:

#1) Paul Simon sang American Tune“You can’t be forever blessed.”

#2) Merle Haggard, in Are the Good Times Really Over asked “Are we rolling down hill, like a snowball headed for hell?”

#3) Neil Yong sang “Oh, this country sure looks good to me, but these fences are comin’ apart at every nail.”

  28. We could have done better. IF we had grasped the implications of our history and understood our national paranoia and hypocrisy we MIGHT have been able to lead the world towards a more peaceful planet. IF we really valued liberty and self-determination we would have acted in much more respectful ways. NOW our world leadership looks like our national politics….”my way or bombs away”.
Scheduling the public Cohen hearing while the President was in Vietnam shows me the Dems hold getting rid of Trump more important than preventing nuclear annihilation.

    Yes; good comment.

I think it is pure envy and jealousy based on the sneaking suspicion if not certain knowledge that the United States was a whole lot better and nicer country before they were born, not to suggest that correlation is necessarily causation in this case, but who knows?

And of course Boomers enjoyed much better music, and in general had a lot more fun even without smartphones dumbphones.

  30. Today, a watching world is asking: If you Americans are at war with yourselves over race, religion, morality, culture and politics, if you cannot unite yourselves, how can you unite the world? And around what?

To my mind, this is not the situation. Anyone with a few brain cells to rub together, can see that the US Empire is not so much trying “to unite the world” as, while beginning to fall apart, to divide the world up with a view to making it easy to dominate. To put it another way: it looks like a dying attempt to impliment PNAC and/or the Agenda 21 and/or the Yinon plan.
Fortunately, at the same time, it begins to look as though they will fail.

The more corrupt they become, the weaker they are and there seems to be nothing/nobody trying to limit the corruption. Thus voting more money to Israel and more money to the MIC, is not the bad news one might think it is, because this money will mostly be dissipated into private pockets and further fuel the corruption and as the US taxpayers become aware of this, as they surely will, it will fuel their anger. When that happens all bets are off.

Not sure of your intent on the racism charge. Do you think being a racist is a bad thing?

Personally, I haven’t a clue what the word means, outside of “shut up.”

Regardless, let’s say that someone is pro-white (or black or Asian or whatever). Does that make them racist? If so, is that even a bad thing? I’m not trying to attack you. I’m honestly trying to figure out why this word even exists and certainly why it’s a bad thing.

If race is just an extended family, why shouldn’t I put my family over others?

Also, even the racism that most CivNat types don’t like – judging an individual on their race – is completely logical and legitimate most of the time. Anytime that you’re dealing with an individual where you’ll eventually deal with their relatives or offspring means that you should judge that person by their race and not their individual attributes. Regression to the mean.

It’s why it’s perfectly legitimate for whites to not want the nice black couple to move into their neighborhood. That nice black couple will have nieces and nephews who visit and/or move in them who aren’t so nice. Also, the nice black couple will have children who will regress to the mean, i.e. less intelligent and more violent.

Again, not trying to attack you, but your comment by saying that Trump isn’t a racist implies that 1) anyone knows what that word means and 2) that being a racist is a bad thing. I’m curious why you believe that, if, in fact, you do.

    Wait, are these insults?

Racist – someone who promotes his family (race is just an extended family) over others

Sexist – someone who acknowledges physical and mental differences between men and women and accepts that these differences led to unequal outcomes. Also, someone who understands that society and 90%+ women themselves are much better off when women devote their lives to the traditional roles of wife and mother.

Xenophobe – someone who understands that allowing members of another tribe into your lands has historically led to bloodshed and, possibly, your tribe’s subjugation.

Homophobe – someone who find homosexuality abhorrent and demands that those who choose to engage in such behavior be forced to do so privately

Islamophobe – if you can’t figure why this is a good thing, you’re hopeless

Bigot – bigot against what? I’m pretty bigotted against criminals. Leftists are pretty bigotted against anyone not on board the Cult of Equality. Does that make them bad.

Stop playing the Prog’s game. Stop accepting their morality. Stop arguing with them. You’ll never win. Choose your own path and societal norms that you want and find others who agree. Then, ignore the Progs. They’re not the word of God. They’re just another group with their own morality. That doesn’t mean that you have to accept it or even acknowledge it.

I should have seen it that way. Your on to something, however, in the diversity circus that is modern America, bringing disparate groups together is well nigh impossible. The ‘coalition of the fringes’ is united by a common hatred: white males. Again, we will see how long it can last. Cheers.

Either way, during that 1960’s turmoil, most on both sides needed to get their asses kicked.

True enough. Much of the turmoil was local and limited.

In 1968 when the Democratic Party crashed, I was at Great Lakes Naval Academy just a few miles north of Chicago and knew nothing about it (no television in boot camp). It was like, if you had a job to do that didn’t involve stuff, nothing was happening. Then you read it in the paper and figured, hell, the Democrats started falling apart with Truman anyway.

I’m sure Pat enjoyed the show. Napoleon put it best: “Never interrupt an enemy in the process of destroying himself.” I’d have enjoyed it too.

Not sure of your intent on the racism charge. Do you think being a racist is a bad thing?

No, racial consciousness is a very normal thing but it’s been pathologized in whites. I can see how my comments could be construed as cuckoldry but what I meant was that Donald Trump has absolutely no history of showing partiality or favoritism to whites or hostility to non-whites. And even if he did it would only be “racist” by the standards set by the (((left))) since they actively encourage non-whites to resent whites and work against our interests.

Since becoming president Trump has made direct racial appeals to blacks, hispanics and Asians but never to whites, yet merely snubbing whites still isn’t good enough for the Jewish led left. If Trump is guilty of anything it’s of not hating whites like “good” white person Hildabeast Clinton does.

If anything Trump has a history of liberalism and anti-racism (just not to the point of self hatred) which is why his candidacy for Reform party president never got off the ground. He learned his painful lesson and adopted an implicitly white and nativist immigration political platform for the Republican primaries in 2015-2016 but his actions as president have shown me that it was mostly for show.

Possibly, but when you find a way to make money like the Pepsi guy and you are a rich eccentric nobody really cares.

Poor gentiles who go crazy and do not have well-heeled relatives to put them up in a nice house somewhere or did not become rich from a single stroke of marketing genius have no bloated bank account to buffer them from the ravages of poverty.

Anybody with cash can be crazy and do crazy things. Look at Howard Hughes. Or Michael Jackson.

Phil Spector may have pulled guns on everyone and shot up his house but the police are less likely to shoot you when you live in a castle on private property. If Phil had been a gentile with no money on the street the cops or other crazies might have killed him.

“The reality is that America became a global powerhouse due to its various races and ethnicities who collectively developed political, economic, and social structures that the world coveted and copied.”

The United States was approximately 90% European when it became a global powerhouse. Its “various races” contributed essentially nothing to that effort; if they had never existed all, the US would still be in the place it is now. The vast majority of the laws and systems we have were written by whites, the vast majority of the best universities were founded by whites, the vast majority of the best companies we have were founded and operated by whites, the vast majority of casualties in every war up to the present were white, essentially all of our greatest military commanders were white, the vast majority of the taxes paid to the government are forked over by white Europeans…

The US became a global power simply for the fact that it had a relatively larger number of intelligent whites inhabiting a land rich in natural resources and operating under a more efficient economic system; and being tucked away across an ocean allowed it to become contiguous from ocean to ocean, which greatly magnified its power when compared to smaller European countries that were continually at war in an effort to check each other’s power.

You mean it was dominated by WASPs. Southern and Eastern Europeans were not viewed very favorably.

“Its “various races” contributed essentially nothing to that effort; if they had never existed all, the US would still be in the place it is now.”

Black slaves were the backbone of the southern economy. The Chinese played an integral role in the construction of the transcontinental railroad. By these two facts alone, your statement is rendered impotent.

“The vast majority of the laws and systems we have were written by whites…”

Actually, it was WASPs who took Greek, Roman, and French ideas of government.

No. According to Jesus Christ, you judge a person by their individual attributes. Furthermore, if we use your “logic”, then Southern and Eastern Europeans would fall under that category, given their propensity for unseemly behavior.

“It’s why it’s perfectly legitimate for whites to not want the nice black couple to move into their neighborhood.”

    Not assumptions at all…
    From my personal experiences…
I lived in Detroit and had what I considered to be “good” neighbors. Mind you, not “good black” neighbors, but just good neighbors whose skin color did not matter. We helped each other, whenever possible, looked out for each other, and had friendly relations, shared family events, barbecues and other social events.
The “troubles” started when my “good neighbors” invited their “ghetto rat” relatives to their parties. I restored an old car to near showroom condition and used to park it in my driveway. The “ghetto rats” decided that my car would be a good place to sit (on the hood). Asking them to remove themselves was met with responses of f#ck you” and other derogatory responses. Upon discussing the situation with my “good neighbor”, he pretty much told me that “boys will be boys” and to “suck it up” and “get over it”. My friendly relations with that neighbor cooled, as he was not willing to straighten out his “ghetto rat” relatives. Soon after, these “ghetto rats” found new avenues in which to ply their criminal “stock in trade”- breaking in to and ransacking houses–easy (white) targets…
I soon moved to an all-white enclave after that, giving up on the city of Detroit, the criminality, harassment, and civic abuse, and have never been happier.
“It’s why it’s perfectly legitimate for whites to not want the nice black couple to move into their neighborhood” is most certainly a legitimate concern…

I just laugh when some people tell me they have good black friends because at some point in their so called friendship race will rear its ugly head. I’ve seen it happen.

Most white people still don’t realize that whatever friendship they think they have with blacks or other non-whites is mostly superficial and fake. Blacks and other non-whites are usually under no such illusions.

    Typical jewish trait.
Even Thomas Jefferson KNEW that the black race was incompatible with every other race, that there would always be problems, and wrote about it.
Most relationships between black and whites are superficial. Blacks have an “ego” problem, always looking under every rock for “racism” and “disrespect”.
Jews have an “ego” problem as well, with their permanent false “victimhood” status, which serves them quite well.

Yet, he could not control himself when around black women, and as a result of his libido, sired mixed offspring. Of course, racial attitudes of the 1700’s compared to today are markedly different, and for good reason.

“Most relationships between black and whites are superficial.”

That would be YOUR opinion. The fact remains that white people have the ability to think for themselves when it comes to friendship and relationships with non-white people. Otherwise, you are no different than an SJW in jackbooting anyone who fails to exclusively think in a prescribed manner.

Actually, after a DNA test in 1998, The Thomas Jefferson Foundation, which owns Monticello, determined that there was a “high probability” that Jefferson fathered at least one of Hemings’s children, and that he likely fathered them all. Their exhibit asserts Jefferson’s paternity as a fact.
