As he debated with himself whether to enter the race for the 2020 Democratic nomination, Joe Biden knew he had a problem.

As a senator from Delaware in the ’70s, he had bashed busing to achieve racial balance in public schools as stupid and racist.

As chairman of Senate Judiciary in the hearings on the nomination of Clarence Thomas in 1991, Biden had been dismissive of the charges by Anita Hill that the future justice had sexually harassed her.

In 1994, Biden had steered to passage a tough anti-crime bill that led to a dramatic increase in the prison population.

Crime went down as U.S. prisons filled up, but Biden’s bill came to be seen by many African Americans as discriminatory.

What to do? Acting on the adage that your best defense is a good offense, Biden decided to tear into President Donald Trump — for giving aid and comfort to white racists.

His announcement video began with footage of the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, highlighting Trump’s remark, after the brawl that left a female protester dead, that there were “very fine people on both sides.”

“With those words,” said Biden, “the president of the United States assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it. And in that moment, I realized that the threat to this nation was unlike any I had seen in my lifetime.”

Cut it out, Joe. This is just not credible. Even he cannot believe Trump had in mind the neo-Nazis and Klansman chanting, “Jews will not replace us!” when Trump said there were “fine people” on both sides.

If this were truly a road-to-Damascus moment for Biden, calling forth a new resolve to remove so morally obtuse a resident of the Oval Office, why did he have to agonize so long before getting in the race?

And was Charlottesville, a riot involving Klansmen, neo-Nazis and radicals, really a “threat to this nation” unlike any Biden had seen in a lifetime that covers the Cuban missile crisis, Vietnam, the riots in 100 cities after Martin Luther King’s assassination and Sept. 11?

Even the anti-Trump media seemed skeptical. Their first interviews after Biden’s announcement were not about Charlottesville but why it took so long to call Anita Hill to apologize.

Yet there is an unstated message in the Biden video. It is this:

With the economy firing on all eight cylinders, and the drive for impeachment losing steam, a new strategy is emerging — to take Trump down by stuffing him in a box with white supremacists.

The strategy is not original. It was tried, but backfired on Hillary Clinton when she called Trump supporters “deplorables … racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamophobic … bigots.”

This didn’t sit well with some white folks in Wisconsin, Michigan and Middle Pennsylvania.

Yet the never-Trumpers seem to think it could work this time.

After Saturday’s attack on the Passover service in Poway, California, which took a woman’s life, Trump denounced the atrocity, expressed his condolences, called Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, who had been wounded, and consoled him for 15 minutes.

“Nevertheless,” wrote The Washington Post Monday in a front-page headline, “President’s words push race to fore of campaign.”

“The rise of white nationalist violence during Trump’s tenure is emerging as an issue,” said the Post, because Trump “previously played down the threat posed by white nationalism (and) … also has a long history of anti-Muslim remarks.”

The article should be taken seriously. For the Post is not only an enemy of Trump but a powerful institutional ally of the left. And during presidential campaigns, it doubles as an oppo research and attack arm of the Democratic Party.

“Violence, Hate Crimes Emerge as 2020 Issues” declared the inside headline on the Post story. The Post is not talking about customary crimes of violence in America or D.C. — robbery, rape, assault, battery, murder — a disproportionate share of which are committed by minorities of color.

The crimes that interest the Post are those committed by white males against minorities, which can be used to flesh out the picture of America that preexists in the mind of the left, if not in the real world.

ORDER IT NOW

Yet it does appear that issues of race, tribe and identity are becoming an obsession in our politics. This weekend, The New York Times faced charges of anti-Semitism for a cartoon of a blind Trump in a skullcap being led by a seeing-eye dog with the face of “Bibi” Netanyahu, who had a Star of David on his collar.

Recoiling under fire, the Times pulled the cartoon and apologized.

On Monday, Rev. Al Sharpton met with “Mayor Pete” Buttigieg. Subject of discussion: Reparations for slavery, which ended more than a century before the mayor was born.

“All is race,” wrote Disraeli in his novel “Tancred.” “There is no other truth.”

Patrick J. Buchanan is the author of “Nixon’s White House Wars: The Battles That Made and Broke a President and Divided America Forever.”

  1. This is a mischaracterization of the rally. It is unfair and inaccurate to call the protesters “neo-Nazis,”
    “Klansmen,” and “white supreeeeemists.”
All of those labels are nonsense, simply hate labels for white men.
The protesters were there to try to save a statue and to protect our heritage.
They had a permit and they had every right to be there.
Many of the men were basic Trump supporters.
Very few of the men were looking for trouble.
    Antifa STARTED the violence.
A leftist woman died in an ACCIDENT.

    Biden is an idiot.

  4. I heard some of that speech. Though I’m not game for another 8 years of the Obama / Biden Establishment, the thing that Biden focused on was the 3-cylinder neoliberal-made economy behind the 8-cylinder PR-made economy.

For years the corporate media has massaged the notion that it’s possible for an economy with so many citizens out of the labor force, working part time and working for wages that have stagnated for 40 years to be in a stellar recovery mode.

The corporate media did it to prove that the First Black President presided over a miraculous economic recovery, post-2008-housing-collapse, and they are continuing to foster the myth since “it is a tangled web that you weave when first you practice to deceive.”

There was a method to their madness: substituting the U3 report for the U6, which counts all US citizens out of the labor force. Since that is 95 million 16 to 65 year olds, we’d have an economy with a different cylinder grade if they told the whole truth. The outlook would be downgraded by several cylinders before even getting to the near 7 million who applied for UC last month and, thus, were actually counted as unemployed.

Many of the citizens out of the labor force are “prime-aged,” a fact that was squeezed into a recent speech by the former Fed chair. Her speech painted a rosy picture of the economy, but at least noted the lack of prime-aged labor-force participation since it’s a little harder for hardcore economists to indulge in 100% magical thinking.

We’d have a better picture of what Biden’s speech danced around if noncitizens were excluded from the deceptive employment figures, including the millions of noncitizens with US-born kids whose earned income is so low that they qualify for free EBT food, reduced-cost housing and monthly cash assistance among other free monthly bills.

We’d have an even better picture if all of the part-time workers—half of all employed people in this country—were not counted as employed since a spouse, a child support check, an SS retirement check or umpteen layers of monthly welfare and up to $6,431 in refundable child tax credit money cover their major household bills. They are now requiring the SSI crowd to work for their free healthcare, meaning a bunch of people working even fewer hours per week are counted as “employed.”

Surely, the American people will not fall for another spellbinding hope / change spinner, peddling economic change messages that will turn into more of the same status quo if he wins. Obama’s hope / change drama was just a smokescreen to cover up for saving the top 20% and their welfare-fed servants only.

The 8-cylinder economic recovery did serve the Obama’s, the Clinton’s and the Biden’s well. With no Black privilege to buoy them, The Clinton’s and the Biden’s had to hustle more to get a piece of the global riches pie, traveling eveywhere from Haiti to the Ukraine.

You’d think that close to $20 million in combo book advances would have been plenty for the Clinton’s. They still strode around the globe, making half-a-million-dollar speeches and making deals, as did the Biden’s. Uncle Joe Inc. made bank off of the globalist economy that has sunk the US middle class.

The bulk of Obama’s 60-million-plus fortune flows from a rarified type of book-promoting privilege: being the First Black POTUS. Since Obama was able to parlay a 2004 keynote speech into riches by writing an autobiography in his 30s, some of that wealth might have accrued due to talent.

As much as he has made off of books, Obama still trundled around the globe, doing his part to promote the globalist policies that pumped up the economic status quo for the top 20%. Obama did that as the US laborforce-participation rate shrank along with wages. He did it as the food stamps rolls grew.

Despite all of his boasting, Trump hasn’t done much to improve things. Most of the tepid job growth has gone to legal immigrants. He increased the flow of legal immigration after campaigning against mass immigration. EBT consumption is down by only 10%, just among the womb-productive illegal aliens, not among the legal immigrants with welfare-paid bills that aid them in undercutting citizens by working for less pay.

Trump did kick off the group least eligible for welfare: single, childless adults who qualify for 3 months of food stamps only every 3 years. There weren’t too many to cut in this group since few bother to apply when the amount is so low, even in the cities where exceptions are made to the strict 3-months-every-3-years’ time limit—cities where the unemployment rate is as high as 40%.

Israel, the Israel lobby, and the politicians groveling before them are off limits for critique (unlike, for example, Russia). Of all things, the Times should have realized that.

  9. Trump should get after Biden who has many skeletons in his closet. Just take his son Hunter and his connections with the Ukrainian mafia state and Joe Biden’s involvement in it. What about Biden’s knowledge and enmeshment in the Obama/Clinton/Deep State conspiracy to topple a sitting US President? Don’t forget Biden’s problems with women! Trump can wait and see how the 20 some democratic candidates will sort out. Don’t take for granted that Biden will prevail. There are many more trustworthy candidates out there, and Biden is the least one.

There were mostly well dressed, college age kids some of whom were chanting “you will not replace us” while some others were chanting “The Jews will not replace us” based on the videos I’ve seen. In fairness to the Post, those could be categorized as man-bites-dog stories, which, on account of their rarity, would naturally be of interest the media. A bit like the DA in Wolf’s Bonfire of the Vanities, the media are always engaged in the quest for the ‘great White defendant’.

None of the legitimate protesters knew or recognized the handful of cartoon weekend Nazis at that rally, who in all likelihood were planted by the Left – possibly by Terry McAuliffe’s office – in order to justify what we now know has been documented as a planned ambush of the patriots.

Which makes sense, as – after the debacles at San Jose and Berkeley – the Left was going to need some kind of built-in excuse for instructing law enforcement to lead the protesters into a pre-booby-trapped cul-de-sac, and then to protect only those who were there unlawfully for the purposes of violent attack – antifa.

Eventually, the only lesson of recent history is going to sink in – that the threat of overwhelming violence is the only thing that wins you a place at the table in New Soviet America. 24. My “take” on Biden:

Oh, can’t you just feel the excitement?

If he were the candidate, we’d watch two Pentagon-adoring old men slugging it out. Two who never have a bad word to say about all the killing and maiming and creating desperate refugees.

And they both embrace CIA dirty operations. Biden was the one who convinced Obama to start America’s industrial-scale extrajudicial killing program in which someone’s name is put on a “kill list” by an anonymous CIA thug, and the person listed is afterwards incinerated by a missile controlled by another CIA thug playing real-life computer games in a secret basement or warehouse.

The regard for rule of law is just touching. As is the humanity.

Smiles mean nothing. Biden has a big one, but then that is almost characteristic of psychopaths. Obama, who bombed everyday somewhere for eight solid years and undoubtedly killed hundreds of thousands, has a boyishly charming one.

And two such genuinely sleazy individuals to boot, Biden and Trump. Although I do think Trump clearly leads in that quality.

By the way, it would be the first time that two men who have had hair transplants ran against each other (Biden got a new front hairline a couple of decades ago).

American politics really is about that meaningful.

Just a further word on sleaze.

Biden has a pretty sleazy record., including, when he was VP, going over to Ukraine to tell the government what to do and to seek concessions benefitting his son’s finances.

Trump’s entire career, of course, features sleaze, from working overtime to avoid paying taxes and cheating the folks who bought into many of his projects to cheating on his wife.

Class, all the way, that’s the way they do things in America

Further information for those who think Biden’s a nice, harmless old guy.

Two items from his voting record.

He supported legislation for an amendment that would allow the individual states to overturn Roe vs Wade on abortion.

He supported legislation that was regarded by the NRA as having saved peoples’ gun rights.

I also watched the hearing over charges by law clerk Anita Hill against Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas in 1991. Biden presided because he was Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Biden’s handling of the hearing was dreadful, and I’ve since had a low opinion of him.

Anita Hill was a credible, calm, and well-spoken witness. But under Biden, she was put through ugly and embarrassing questioning. Anita Hill was treated as wrong-doer rather than as witness against one, nominee Clarence Thomas. It was Joe Biden rushing to save the Washington establishment from embarrassment over a poor Supreme Court nomination.

He ain’t quite what a lot of people think he is.

Just as with Obama, big smiles can be so deceptive.

Biden’s exploitation, in his opening campaign advertising film, of the sad events at Charlottesville, Virginia, setting himself up pretentiously as doing “battle for the soul of this nation,” (in light of Trump’s widely criticized “moral equivalence” between neo-Nazis and anti-fascists) would be hard enough to accept on its own.

But Biden never so much as had the decency to ask the mother of the woman, Heather Heyer, killed at Charlottesville, whether it would be okay to use the event in his political advertising. That’s classic Joe Biden sleaze, with the same level of decency displayed as in his Anita Hill hearings.

But things go much farther than that in Biden’s “nation’s soul” stuff, far enough for those who understand to make them want to puke.

As Vice President, Biden was America’s imperial emissary for the dirty dealings in Ukraine. He takes credit for telling Yanukovych, the country’s recently democratically-elected President, to walk away after all the street demonstrations and violence, violence orchestrated and paid for covertly by America.

That very much included America’s support for Ukraine’s ugly Azov Battalion – an absolutely neo-Nazi outfit with swastika-like armbands and torchlight parades and hate-filled speeches – which threatened the elected government. There are photos of Biden with a big smile on his face shaking hands with neo-Nazi leader, Oleh Tyahnybok.

So much for Joe Biden and “America’s soul” – just empty words uttered with mock sincerity. About as meaningful as a Hillary Clinton photo-op of her eating some fried chicken with a group of black people at a local joint. She actually did that.

Trump is indeed a man of “no class.” It’s almost an understatement.

But do you call it “class” for America to have bombed its way through the Middle East over the last fifteen years, killing a good two million people and creating armies of desperate refugees? Overthrowing democratic governments? Running an extrajudicial killing operation on an industrial scale?

In some bizarre fashion, Trump is an almost perfect President for America today, a perfect symbol – crass, dishonest, violent, and brutally proud of all of it.

To keep his columns nationally syndicated and to make guest appearances on FOX News where he was given an approximate five year “time out” for not towing the pro-Israel line on foreign policy and not hating Iran with sufficient vigor. At least that’s my theory.

Paul Craig Roberts used to have his columns syndicated until he stopped observing the (((media establishment’s))) guardrails and taboos on race, Jews and Israel.

  41. As chairman of Senate Judiciary in the hearings on the nomination of Clarence Thomas in 1991, Biden had been dismissive of the charges by Anita Hill that the future justice had sexually harassed her.

Given that Thomas is significantly darker than Miss Hill, Biden should be praised for refusing to jump to stereotypical conclusions.

Even if not, you’d think that 20 years of pretending that Bill Clinton isn’t a rapist would be penance enough.

The protesters were there to try to save a statue and to protect our heritage.

The problem for us is that the men on the statues were fighting on the side that thought Africans belong on the North American continent.

In other words, the real enemies of white people. God made oceans and deserts for a reason.

The good guys had this on their walls:

    – His late son, Beau was married to a Jewess while his daughter Ashley is wife to Dr. Howard Krein.
    – He first visited Israel in 1973 where he met Golda Meir.
    – In 2007, Biden even told Shalom TV , “I am a Zionist. You don’t have to be a Jew to be a Zionist.”

    That begs the question….why?

Agreed. And not being Mensa-qualified, I’m sort of proud that so much of my thinking aligns with yours.

The men on the statutes were also fighting on the side which insisted that the community’s power to enslave was greater than the individual’s right to be free.

Yes, but we didn’t enslave them. We bought them. They were “pre-owned”!

Even he cannot believe Trump had in mind the neo-Nazis and Klansman chanting, “Jews will not replace us!” when Trump said there were “fine people” on both sides.

Biden fully supports the persecution of Serbs by the Ustashe (i.e. NAZIS) in Croatia, Albania, and Kosovo (or Kosova as Hillary says).

HE IS A DEMENT, a LIAR, who supports the persecution of Serbs as the NAZIS did during WWII:

Canadian soldiers remember Medak Pocket, the mercenaries trained by MPRI (EngilityCorp) to support NAZIS and burn Serbs alive, destroy their live, and then BOMBED their houses and displace thousands of innocents:

”The Ustashe regime systematically murdered approximately 300,000 to 500,000 Serbs out of whom up to 52,000 died at the Jasenovac concentration camp, according to current estimates. ”

Isn’t Biden merely an especially stupid WASP-hating Irishman? Possibly a drunk or if not, what is worse, a sober Irishman who is simply a complete retard? And why does he put his hands all over women and children? He’s an F’n retard, pedophile or worse. A sickie.

  50. Well Trelane, could it also be that Biden is merely aping the behaviour of Trump and Trump’s “friends” like Jeffrey Epstein and Alan Dershowitz?

Still, I suppose Trump doesn’t drink. He’s too busy inhaling fast food and reading the only book he admits to owning (a collection of Hitler’s pre-war speeches, given to him by Marty Davis).

  51. speeches says:

Patrick, talking of a good Irish sense of humour and impersonations, did you catch the president’s Hebrew (Yiddish?) impression which he deploys to capture votes?

    “Israel, Israel,Israel, Israel, Israel…………………..”

What next, Trump trying to speak Spanish to gain the Hispanic vote?

I guess neither are as poor as his English.

persecution of Serbs by the Ustashe (i.e. NAZIS)

Not sure I see the connection to NAZIS, and know for damn sure the NAZI analogy is overworked to exhaustion and more importantly, to the result that the real cause-effect relationships remain unexplored and unresolved.

Perhaps Unz forum habitués can establish a GoFundMe account to support research into the exact location of the Hitler-Nazee center in the brain, and devise a procedure to remove or at least disconnect it from any systems of communication, whether by speech or writing or art. Post-op, disconnected HNDS (Hitler-Nazee Derangement Synapses) will merely ping-pong endlessly inside some poor schlump’s skull ’til death grants him relief.

Or — this medical breakthrough may free up brainpower toward determining actual contexts, causes and effects of events that occurred generations after the demise of the Hitler-Nazee phenomenon.

  54. The truth of Charlottesvilke is that the Democrat city council decided to remove the statue of General Robert E. Lee that had stood for a century in a park named for him. A group who opposed that decision applied for a city permit to hold a rally at the statue. The city denied the permit, but a Federal judge ruled that the city’s Democrat leaders were violating the First Amendment and ordered the city to issue the permit. The city council then held a rally inviting antifa people to gather, and instructed the city police to NOT intervene when the antifa people in masks attacked the people who were lawfully and peaceably assembled at the statue. Even the New York Times reported that the police did not try to stop the violence, and policemen said they were told to let the leftist attackers assault the peaceful protesters.

The Department of Justice should indight the city council in Charlottesville for conspiracy to deprive the lawful demonstrators of their civil rights. The violence was the intentional result of the Democrat city council using illegal assaults as vengeance for being forced by the Federal court to issue a parade permit. Those Democrats are criminals.

  55. @El Dato

You have it backward. Trump supports the long term occupation of the Golan Heights by Israel. And perhaps you have not noticed that Nancy Pelosi cannot condemn the anti-semitism rants of the Democrat congresswoman from Somalia.

Who cares what a slave might cost in “today’s dollars” when the U.S. acting as a slave to Israel “today” (and to date) has cost its citizens trillions?

    Not worth the upkeep.
