The Dinh Dynasty lasted only 12 years and ended in 980, but in the 20th century, there were around a dozen plays about one of the Dinh queens, Duong Van Nga. When I was a kid in Saigon in the 1970s, a folk opera about her could pack a theater night after night. In 2013, an elaborately produced 12-part series about Dinh Tien Hoang [Dinh the Celestial King] appeared on TV. Posted on YouTube, it has generated many comments. In 2015, a dorky, hour-long animated film was made about the king’s childhood.

People remember, as they should. Just about any Vietnamese historical figure has a temple devoted to him, usually in his home village.

The most maligned character from the Dinh era has long fascinated me. For a millennium, Do Thich was depicted as a farcical assassin.

This minor official dreamt a star fell into his mouth. Interpreting it to mean he would be the next king, Do Thich killed Dinh Tien Hoang and his grown son, Dinh Lien. Instead of being crowned, however, the eunuch was executed, with his body shredded and fed to the populace.

A six-year-old boy was enthroned, only to be replaced soon after by Le Hoan, a general under Dinh Tien Hoang. What’s most curious, however, is that Le Hoan also married the dead king’s wife. That’s like Mary Todd Lincoln wedding James Buchanan, or Jackie Kennedy becoming, recoil of recoils, LBJ’s first lady.

Peasants aren’t dummies, so satirical folk poems started to circulate, with one surviving to this day. Do Thich’s name was never cleared by historians, however, until the 1990s, more than a thousand years after his ghastly demise.

Poor schmuck. When Dinh Tien Hoang was just a warlord, Do Thich carried him on his back during a battle reversal. This is attested by two documents kept at a private home in Nam Dinh and a temple in Hai Nam.

So why you bring up this recherché bullcrap, homie? What you trying to do?

Well, cuz, all I mean to say is that all historical events and figures should be reexamined endlessly, for the official or commonly accepted narratives are often deceptive. The sanity of any society can be measured by its capacity for historical questioning.

You can’t probe history, though, if you don’t care about it. One in four Americans don’t even know which country the American War of Independence was fought against, and more than a third can’t tell you in which century it occurred. Just five years after 9/11, 30% had forgotten it happened in 2001.

Historical ignorance is especially severe among our youth, which means cluelessness is on the rise. Our masters have engineered this, of course, since nitwits are easier to fool.

Inducted from infancy into the cult of progress, we’re also conditioned to see the past as benighted, befouled and irrelevant to our march towards an ever brighter future. The more distant an epoch, the more repulsive and unhappy, we all seem to agree. I mean, how could anyone possibly endure life without recorded music, televised sports or web porn?

Endless noise thwarts reflection and discussion. On demand virtual sex chokes political turbulence.

Writing for the Guardian, Chelsea Manning quotes Martin Luther King, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice.” Would a Pole or Czech in 1946 agree? A Syrian or Ukrainian now?

The arc of the moral universe has bent every which way throughout history, and one would have to be pretty goofy to think the worst outrages against man won’t come round again and again for sustained visits. Anything can happen, including a thousand-year descent into the deepest abyss, starting yesterday.

NASA, though, claims it will colonize Mars by 2030s. I wouldn’t bet on it. We’ll be so broke and broken by then, I’d be surprised if your average American could even afford to get on an ordinary airplane.

In 2002, the BBC conducted a poll to determine the greatest 100 Britons ever, and here are the top ten: Winston Churchill, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Princess Diana, Charles Darwin, William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Elizabeth I, John Lennon, Horatio Nelson and Oliver Cromwell.

Yes, Diana is an awfully silly choice, and many will smirk at Lennon also, but for a public survey in this age of mass media, the Brits didn’t embarrass themselves.

Who would top an American poll? Would any scientist, engineer, inventor or writer show up? And how many sport figures, rock musicians, movie stars or recent politicians? Also, what percentage of American high school graduates know anything about the English top ten besides Diana and Lennon?

Since 29% of Americans can’t even locate the Pacific Ocean on a map, don’t ask them about the South China Sea crisis or our Pivot to Asia, and even as Washington daily engages Russia in a new game of nuclear chicken, 73% have no idea what the first Cold War was about. We’re that out of it.

With an all volunteer army, Americans are fine with saluting the troops constantly while sending them off to wherever. In a Cheyenne bar, a lady told me her daughter was stationed in North Korea.

Although an empire with the greatest reach ever, we pose as victims of cave dwellers, beginner pilots, box cutters and semi-retarded lone wolves. Celebrating gender instability, we welcome cross-dressers and self-castrators into our military. Our most famous entertainer was a black man who tried his damnedest to appear white, and one of our greatest male athletes ever decided at age 65 that he was somehow a woman. Obama praised nem/ver/em, “It takes courage to share your story.” Meanwhile, Americans with real balls, Gary Webbs, Pat Tillman, Michael Hastings, etc., were rubbed out. In Hillary Clinton, we have a foreign spy running for president.

A thousand years from now, what will they write about this culture of mass delusions?

Linh Dinh is the author of two books of stories, five of poems, and a novel, Love Like Hate. He’s tracking our deteriorating socialscape through his frequently updated photo blog, Postcards from the End of America.

  1. “Celebrating gender instability, we welcome cross-dressers and self-castrators into our military.”

It really surprised me to read this in, of all columns on Unz, yours.

One can debate whether those are illnesses or not. If they aren’t, all right; if they are, how can come to mind to speak of ill people in such a tone?

I totally agree, though, that the celebration of gender issues is a more severe issue than what it celebrates.
    —————————-
“Our most famous entertainer was a black man who tried his damnedest to appear white”

The world is full of people who want to change their colour… 30 or 40 years from now, and you’ll see white people choosing to become black or brown.
The trashiness of his music, and the enormous success of that trashiness, perplex me more.
    —————————-
“A thousand years from now, what will they write about this culture of mass delusions?”

A hundred years from now, who or what will “they” be? What will today’s “writing” be?

I am a 64 year old retiree who for the past year and a half has substitute taught grades 7-12.

Recently in English class we were discussing heroes; are the born or created? Off topic one student replied that LeBron James was his hero. I replied that professional ball players were men playing children’s games and not heroes. There upon another student piped up that all soldiers were heroes. I asked him if the soldier who deserted his post in Afghanistan exposing his unit to attack was a hero. I postulated that a hero is someone who runs into a burning building to save someone while others are running out of said building.

Students today are truly ignorant of history, even recent events and cannot for the most part think independently. This is intentionally done by the schools by teaching to the test. Students can find the answer in a textbook but cannot formulate original thoughts or arguments.

All due respect, but easy on the kids. They cannot formulate said desired original thoughts because they have not yet lived life. They have not felt the sting of taxes, so they don't understand yet the concepts of civil government as regards what is the duty vs. the taxes paid. They haven't yet felt for themselves the sting of a stop by police in a way that is threatening (certain elements excepted, of course), so the concepts of police powers vs. the citizen's rights aren't fully formulated.

There are a million pieces of life kids haven't experienced and so the Bill of rights, notions of heroics, of wealth, the relative value of sports and culture vs. the rights and duties of belonging to a civilization aren't relevant to their scope, their current vision as kids. We don't help them along much allowing childhood to be extended into their twenties and we help them even less allowing children to cow the adults at University creating idiotic courses of study in exchange for cash and a printed diploma worth nothing..

And having set up said situation, we positively destroy these children at that stage by allowing the University and banks and professors to profit so mightily as the children are released to society at the absolute brink of intellectual and financial ruin unequipped to cope. Scoundrels run amok in Academia, in politics, in finance and in a government that allows the children to be so hideously exploited.

At the end of the line, the children are shrubs with enormous debt and very, very strange ideas, ideas the founders could not fathom, would not have time for and certainly would treat with zero tolerance. Transplant Jefferson to this day, he and all the founders would demand another revolution and the perverts and women would be first to be put back in the box where they belong, for men building a civilization haven't time for such foolishness.

And the Public Servants that built this mess the past 50 years or so? Jefferson, Washington, Franklin perhaps declared roughly stated, "When public service becomes profitable, only scoundrels will serve". And here we are and this is what they built. And, sorry ladies, the decline is built largely on the foolishness of women and their male recruits. In government, in media, in Academics and at work. THAT is where today's troubles reside. When you're involved with installing perversions throughout the society, you're too busy to watch the foxes in the financial henhouses.

Sorry for veering from the main point, but Gawd, Winston Churchill, the Stalin appeaser, is in the top 10??? He’s one of the most effete, smug, self promoting, narcissistic, fraudulent saps I’ve ever had the agony of reading. Whenever I force myself to read the dandy’s snarky, self centered drivel, which is all of it, I feel as though I have to wash myself. His one saving grace is that he admitted that ww2 was unnecessary, though not for the reasons he promoted.

Churchill was an appalling character in many ways. His toadying to the Soviets after the German invasion of 1941 was despicable, but nothing compared to Franklin Roosevelt and the American Govt during the Second World War. The latter gave the Soviets the materiel to win the Second World War and start the Cold War thereafter. Place the blame where it really lies.
    , @MJMD
But compared to the mediocrities (even Maggie, alas) who came after him, J.S? Churchill, like him or not, really was "the Last Lion"; that doesn't mean he was the best. As against, say, Sir John "Jacky" Fisher in 1915, there's no question: Britain should have stuck with Jacky. But weighed against ANY postwar British politician (other than himself), I'm sorry, you have to give it to Winston.
    , @Jim Christian

And the worst of it is that they come out of it thinking of themselves as educated.

Best take all day. For a price, I will print you a diploma. What shall I put in the blanks for you, Jacues? Would you like the gold leaf, or for an additional charge, I can frame it in mahogany.

Perhaps the educational emperor wears no clothes, but it is a very profitable venture. The children pay, the professors pretend to teach, the students pretend to learn and all conspire to exert as little effort as possible. At the end, a diploma. Voila'! The child is "educated", just not in the fashion normal folk could perceive (or use). But then, there's the money. Does the term "Diploma Mill" resonate?

Really, Anonymny, that's a cheap shot.

I'm perfectly aware that the treatment of "historical events" in The Deer Hunter and, in particular, Heaven's Gate is what Donna Tartt might humorously call "alarmingly original", to say the least. Whatever the "Johnson County War" looked like, it certainly wasn't the Doctor Zhivagoesque affair Cimino blew it up into-- not with the death toll off by two orders of magnitude.

The point of an improvisatory obituary for a late filmmaker isn't to rake him over the coals for his preference for myth over historiography. I realize Cimino isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he was a visionary and, though somewhat equivocal in his presentation of ideas, he clearly was not a Marxist as some might've imagined. Sergio Leone, for example, might by some be subjected to the same onerous quibbles-- would that be fair though?

And by God, the immigrants in Heaven's Gate are White Christians. If you pay careful enough attention, you might even detect a note of a hint of anti--(((who))) in the shenanigans.

  6. Meanwhile, as the nation erases my heroes — Andy Jackson, who fought the British at New Orleans, the honorable Confederate Robert E. Lee — from its pantheon, I feel less and less a citizen.

"Meanwhile, as the nation erases my heroes"

This may happen on a global scale.

Globalism sounds so nice, kind, and generous.

It is Imperialism with a human face. Cosmoperialism.

Globalism sounds so humble. "I'm not a national chauvinist but a humble citizen of the globe."

But this is really an arrogant outlook. To say "I'm a global citizen" is just a smiley way of saying the "World is my oyster or Oy-ster."

If indeed you're a global citizen, it implies you have a right to enter, penetrate, manipulate, change, alter, subvert, and loot any nation. Your power and ambition aren't limited to your own nation but the entire world. So, the 'profound humility' of global citizenship is really a disingenuous trick of hiding its supreme arrogance.

Also, global citizenship sounds like your nation is open to all the world. But the elites are surely less affected by massive demographic changes than the hoi polloi are. The hoi polloi don't have fortune and privilege. They cannot stay above and be aloof of the changes like Obama or Blair or Cameron or Merkel. They get drowned in the tide. They are not on the cruiseship, the Titanic. They don't have the ticket on the Globalist Ark as the demographic tides flood into every nation. For many of the hoi polloi, the collective possession of the land as their homeland is all they have.
Compare Palestinian elites and Palestinian hoi polloi. The Zionist tide in early 20th century didn't bother the Palestinian elites. It was an opportunity for them to enrich themselves. They sold their lands to Jews at good prices and enjoyed good easy life as 'globalist citizens' with enough money to travel and settle anywhere in the world. In contrast, the Palestinian hoi polloi just had a sense of living on the land of their forebears. When Jews came to take the land, they had NOTHING left. They lost everything, even the blood and soil bond to the land.

So, globalism is, on the one hand, an elite traitor-imperialism against its own people. Just like Palestinian elites sold their own people for 3o pieces of silver, we see the same behavior all over the world. Blair and Merkel got theirs. What do they care if the hoi polloi lose everything?

But globalism is also a means to penetrate, dominate, and change other nations.
All this 'welcome Muslims' stuff by the US elites is the admission price for the US to interfere, invade, and transform the Middle East. By taking in Muslim immigrants and 'refugees', US creates an impression of happy hospitality to the Muslim world. But that is just part of the give-and-take. We offer haven to some Muslims as publicity stunt, but that only gives US the chance to drop bombs, use drones, send agents, use proxies to destroy nations like Iraq, Libya, and Syria in the name of 'human rights' and globalist values. (Those 'refugees' are settled not where the elites live but where white working class live. It's like the Vietnamese refugees were resettled in Texas where they competed with white working class fishermen.)

Globalism destroys national sovereignty and values all over. What is the price for Vietnam to win some trade deals? Viets must betray their own values and culture and allow their cities to be taken over by freako homo 'pride' parades. Did Viets sacrifice millions of lives to win independence to cave to sick US demands to spread homomania that is really a proxy tool of Zio-Globalists?

Also, I find the notion of globalist citizen to be conceited to the max. The world has over 200 nations with so many different languages, customs, cultures, traditions, values, histories, and etc.
To get to know one culture is challenging enough. So, who is anyone to claim that he understands and loves the world? I mean what does he know about the history and culture of other nations and peoples? If he doesn't know, who is he to claim to be a citizen of the globe?

I don't know much about the particulars of Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, Latin America., etc. I don't belong to them, and they don't belong to me.
I respect all such nations and so on. But I don't know them, so it would be preposterous and pompous for me to say that I belong to that part of the world just as much as I belong to mine.
Even Obama, who went from place to place, only knew Hawaii, Indonesia, and US. He visited Kenya for a spell but not for long. He didn't travel to or study 200 nations around the world. So who is he to say he belongs to the world(most of which he has no clue about).

Of course, when a globalist says he belongs to the world, it is really a sly way of implying that the world belongs to him. That is George Soros' view of the world. The world exists for the likes of him to rig, game, toy with, manipulate, exploit, and etc. Sure, he acts like smiley Yoda, a friend to all races, cultures, and nations, but his globalism is just one big swindle to enrich himself and take sadistic pleasure in havocs he creates around the world. He is no better than a dog-fighter who pits different dogs together. In the name of 'dog diversity'?

Rip off the 'human face' of Globalism and it is Uglobalism. It is ugly. We went from Ugly American to Uglobalists.

Anyway, the globalists desecrate the past heroes of white America today, but they have their eyes set on targets all over the world. But by spreading homomania in every nation, Uglobalists are setting the ground to defame and defile heroes of other nations because, after all, most historical heroes, most cultures, most religions, most values, and most customs are not about equating marriage with homo fecal penetration or tranny penis-chopping and celebrating freaks who do such with massive 'pride' parades. So, all heroes and customs around the world are defamed as 'homophobic'. Indeed, the UN is already a tool of homomania or homo-imperialism or homperialism.

Look how Japan is now under great pressure to have 'gay marriage'. It already has massive homo parades. It even spread to Muslim Turkey though it was shut down this year cuz of threat of violence by nationalists and Islamists. Globalism is Jewish-Homo Imperialism. It comes with a smile but eventually resorts to guns and weapons to destroy other nations.

In the US, you better go along with homomania or the STATE will destroy you.
You won't bake a 'gay wedding cake'? State will fine you and shut your business down. If you won't pay the fine and try to open your business, the state will send goons with guns to lock you up. That is globalism. Comes with a smile but has a knife hidden behind its back.
Uglobalists talk of 'rights' but it's all about MIGHT.
So, read the fine print before you sign onto globalism.

It comes with short-term goodies but then you discover you'v signed onto obligations like you won't believe. It's like the story of Hansel and Gretel.
Russians sure found out in the 90s.
And look what globalism is doing to Russia for its having canceled the contract.
A new cold war that is ruthless, relentless, hysterical, and vicious.

All those smiley-faced globalists who came in the 90s are now recommending that Russia be destroyed totally for not bending over to homo 'pride' and pussy riot.

Say what you will about Stalin and the Soviets, but Britain and the US would have been fought to a standstill in the British Isles, if they were lucky, without the Sovs bearing the brunt of German attacks and wearing them down. It is wishful thinking that America could have projected the power necessary to retake Europe against a fully mobilised and full-strength Germany.

I wasn’t talking about you personally. I liked your piece about Cimino.

I was remarking about how historically false HEAVEN’S GATE is like so many historical movies.

But most people don’t care. And they just go with movie history.

After all, his book is called DREAMS FROM MY FATHER, not Dreams from the World or It Takes a Global Village Idiot.

Obama was raised globo-cosmo-rootlessly. In fact, his own white mother abandoned her own race and filled up her own womb with seeds of non-whites. She didn’t care for whiteness, rejected her identity, and her roots. And Obama was raised under her kind of outlook.
Obama was raised by leftist white grandparents. He grew up in Hawaii filled with all sorts of people. He had no clear identity. In NY, he hung around rich Pakis and maybe around homos.

He was everything and nothing as a globot. He was like Dylan in the early 60s when he didn’t give a crap about Jewishness and was just happy to be a hipster. And then his father died, and he realized he is his father’s son and his identity mattered.

Obviously, just being some hipster stoner globo-cosmo hedonist was not enough for Obama. He needed something more substantive, and he looked to his father, to Africa, and blackness. (And he specifically chose blackness over whiteness. If he were truly a globot, he should have felt equally white and black. And since he grew up with Indonesians and Asians in Hawaii, he should have felt Asian too. But no, he chose blackness cuz his father, the figure of authority missing in his life, was black.)

Richard Spencer said BECOME WHO YOU ARE.

    Obama had this journey himself.

He was raised as a globot. He was black, white, Muslim, Indonesian, Hawaiian, maybe even homo. He was everything, he was nothing. But he looked into his roots and that is when he BECAME BLACK by connecting with something deeper than ideology, fashion, privilege, money, etc. Obama decided he needed to BECOME what he is: BLACK.

He was raised as a ‘global citizen’, but he needed something more specific, something stronger. It’s like Jewish Socialists realized they needed to be something more than ‘comrade’, ‘worker’, or ‘prole’ like anyone under communism. Communism says a Jewish communist has more in common with a Laotian communist than with a Jewish capitalist or Orthodox Jew. But in the end, race-culture-history is deeper than some ideology that, btw, totally vanished after several decades.

Jews needed to be connected with history and roots and culture that set them apart from others.

After all, every individual is special because he or she is unique and exceptional in his or her own way. If every individual was interchangeable with anyone else, there would be no meaning to ‘me’ and ‘you’ and personal biography. Even though all people have much in common, each individual has his or her own story of life and lessons and awareness. Even among Mormons, each Mormon is unique in his or her own way. We are not like mass produced cups or toasters that are identical and could be replaced with a new one if one breaks down.
When a chair breaks, we can replace it with one just like it and all is well.
But when a dear one dies, he or she cannot be replaced. Each person is irreplaceable.

Same goes for ethnic groups. Just like each individual has meaning in his uniqueness or difference, each group his own his saga, narrative, experience, realization, and vision. Jews, Turks, Chinese, Persians, and etc are not interchangeable. Each culture is valuable for what it is. Each ethnic group has its own roots. And for each culture to remain healthy and viable, it must remain distinct from others. There must be some degree of exclusion though preferably not in absolute mode like in totalitarian societies.

After all, why are Jews so horrified by the Holocaust? Because Jews are irreplaceable by non-Jews. If Jewish globalists really feel all peoples are interchangeable and roots/culture don’t matter, they should not be so upset with the Holocaust. They should just see it as deaths of millions of people than possible extermination of JEWS.
After all, if identity, race, and history don’t matter, then what does it matter if all Jews die? We can just say Jews are nothing more than people, and even if all Jews die, there are plenty of more people all around? Jews seem to have this attitude toward Europeans, i.e. so what if Europe is demographically swept and altered by waves and waves of blacks and Muslims? They are all just ‘people’. White, black, or Muslim, what does it matter?

But using this logic, who cares about the Jewish nature of deaths in Holocaust? Jews are just people, and there will always be lots of people all around even if every Jew were killed.

Jews also say race and ethnicity has nothing to do with anything. So, it doesn’t matter if Britain becomes majority black and Muslim. It doesn’t matter if whites were to vanish from Europe. Europe is not about race or ethnicity. It is only about values and ideas. So, even if Europe is no longer white, it is still ‘European’ if non-Europeans in Europe practice European ideas and values and culture like speaking English.
But using this logic, we need not worry if all Jews had died in the Holocaust. After all, Jewishness is just a culture, values, and an idea. It is not about race or blood. So, if all Jews had been killed, Jewishness can still survive if, say, 6 million Chinese or Iranians decide to adopt ‘Jewish values’ and ‘Jewish identity’ purely as a culture. Would Jews be okay with that?
Would Africans would be okay with an Africa that is majority non-black as long as the non-blacks practice ‘African values’ that are redefined as open borders and ‘diversity’?

It is ironic that Obama who ‘became what is he’—black—away from generic globo-cosmopolitanism is now urging all the world to just surrender their identity and roots and become part of GLOB. Are we to become interchangeable globots?
He who went on a journey to BECOME BLACK is so bitter about white people BECOMING WHITE by looking into the dreams of their own forefathers. White people must not look to their forefathers. The dreams of white fathers were only nightmares, only evil. And white girls must not look to their fathers and mothers but be like Ann Dunham and surrender their wombs to blacks and others to make non-white babies.

Same can be said for Merkel. She grew up under communism that said all socialists were brothers and sisters and comrades, and nations didn’t matter anymore. But with the fall of communism, West Germany and East Germany reunited for the same reason that they shared common history, blood, memory, and destiny. After all, why didn’t West Germany unify with France and why didn’t East Germany unify with Poland or Czechoslovakia? Because Germans must merge with Germans.
But Merkel seems to have forgotten all of that. She berates fellow Germans and seeks to unify Germany with Nigeria and Syria. What the hell…

And how was Israel created? It was the gathering of all the Jewish tribes by blood. Many scattered Jews from all over decided to come together in a new community. Just like West Germany and East Germany came together cuz of bond of common blood and shared roots, many Jews with shared blood and roots came together in Israel.
If ideas and values trump ethnicity, then West German should have merged with France since both were capitalist democracies. And East Germany should have merged with Poland during the Cold War since both were communist states. Ridiculous.
It’s like, if South Korea is gonna merge with any nation, it should be with North Korea. If values trump blood and race, then S. Korea should merge with Japan cuz both are capitalist democracies. Of course, US wants S. Korea to become like Puerto Rico and essentially merge with US as a defacto commonwealth. That is globalism.
It’s so stupid. Look at Turkey. Even after all these yrs, Kurds in Turkey feel closer to Kurds in other nations than with Turks. Blood is stronger and should be that way. It is richer and thicker than stupid globo ink.

So, how can humanity simply be content with globalism? Nationalism is what matters. And once we have solid nationalisms, we can have internationalism of trade and exchange of ideas.

Globalism is not internationalism. Internationalism is nations working together. Globalism is nations surrendering their sovereignty and independence to the Glob Masters of the US that is dominated by Jews and Homos. Globalism is Jewish-Homo supremacist imperialism.

    @Miss Laura
Meanwhile, as the nation erases my heroes -- Andy Jackson, who fought the British at New Orleans, the honorable Confederate Robert E. Lee -- from its pantheon, I feel less and less a citizen.

“Meanwhile, as the nation erases my heroes”

This may happen on a global scale.

Globalism sounds so nice, kind, and generous.

It is Imperialism with a human face. Cosmoperialism.

Globalism sounds so humble. “I’m not a national chauvinist but a humble citizen of the globe.”

But this is really an arrogant outlook. To say “I’m a global citizen” is just a smiley way of saying the “World is my oyster or Oy-ster.”

If indeed you’re a global citizen, it implies you have a right to enter, penetrate, manipulate, change, alter, subvert, and loot any nation. Your power and ambition aren’t limited to your own nation but the entire world. So, the ‘profound humility’ of global citizenship is really a disingenuous trick of hiding its supreme arrogance.

Also, global citizenship sounds like your nation is open to all the world. But the elites are surely less affected by massive demographic changes than the hoi polloi are. The hoi polloi don’t have fortune and privilege. They cannot stay above and be aloof of the changes like Obama or Blair or Cameron or Merkel. They get drowned in the tide. They are not on the cruiseship, the Titanic. They don’t have the ticket on the Globalist Ark as the demographic tides flood into every nation. For many of the hoi polloi, the collective possession of the land as their homeland is all they have.
Compare Palestinian elites and Palestinian hoi polloi. The Zionist tide in early 20th century didn’t bother the Palestinian elites. It was an opportunity for them to enrich themselves. They sold their lands to Jews at good prices and enjoyed good easy life as ‘globalist citizens’ with enough money to travel and settle anywhere in the world.

All this ‘welcome Muslims’ stuff by the US elites is the admission price for the US to interfere, invade, and transform the Middle East. By taking in Muslim immigrants and ‘refugees’, US creates an impression of happy hospitality to the Muslim world. But that is just part of the give-and-take. We offer haven to some Muslims as publicity stunt, but that only gives US the chance to drop bombs, use drones, send agents, use proxies to destroy nations like Iraq, Libya, and Syria in the name of ‘human rights’ and globalist values. (Those ‘refugees’ are settled not where the elites live but where white working class live. It’s like the Vietnamese refugees were resettled in Texas where they competed with white working class fishermen.)

Globalism destroys national sovereignty and values all over. What is the price for Vietnam to win some trade deals? Viets must betray their own values and culture and allow their cities to be taken over by freako homo ‘pride’ parades.

If he doesn’t know, who is he to claim to be a citizen of the globe?

I don’t know much about the particulars of Middle East, Central Asia, Africa, Latin America., etc. I don’t belong to them, and they don’t belong to me.
I respect all such nations and so on. But I don’t know them, so it would be preposterous and pompous for me to say that I belong to that part of the world just as much as I belong to mine.
Even Obama, who went from place to place, only knew Hawaii, Indonesia, and US. He visited Kenya for a spell but not for long. He didn’t travel to or study 200 nations around the world. So who is he to say he belongs to the world(most of which he has no clue about).

Of course, when a globalist says he belongs to the world, it is really a sly way of implying that the world belongs to him. That is George Soros’ view of the world. In the name of ‘dog diversity’?

Rip off the ‘human face’ of Globalism and it is Uglobalism. It is ugly. We went from Ugly American to Uglobalists.

Anyway, the globalists desecrate the past heroes of white America today, but they have their eyes set on targets all over the world. But by spreading homomania in every nation, Uglobalists are setting the ground to defame and defile heroes of other nations because, after all, most historical heroes, most cultures, most religions, most values, and most customs are not about equating marriage with homo fecal penetration or tranny penis-chopping and celebrating freaks who do such with massive ‘pride’ parades. So, all heroes and customs around the world are defamed as ‘homophobic’. Indeed, the UN is already a tool of homomania or homo-imperialism or homperialism.

Look how Japan is now under great pressure to have ‘gay marriage’.

You won’t bake a ‘gay wedding cake’? State will fine you and shut your business down. If you won’t pay the fine and try to open your business, the state will send goons with guns to lock you up. That is globalism. Comes with a smile but has a knife hidden behind its back.
Uglobalists talk of ‘rights’ but it’s all about MIGHT.
So, read the fine print before you sign onto globalism.

It comes with short-term goodies but then you discover you’v signed onto obligations like you won’t believe. It’s like the story of Hansel and Gretel.
Russians sure found out in the 90s.
And look what globalism is doing to Russia for its having canceled the contract.
A new cold war that is ruthless, relentless, hysterical, and vicious.

All those smiley-faced globalists who came in the 90s are now recommending that Russia be destroyed totally for not bending over to homo ‘pride’ and pussy riot.

And the worst of it is that they come out of it thinking of themselves as educated.

Sorry for veering from the main point, but Gawd, Winston Churchill, the Stalin appeaser, is in the top 10??? He's one of the most effete, smug, self promoting, narcissistic, fraudulent saps I've ever had the agony of reading. Whenever I force myself to read the dandy's snarky, self centered drivel, which is all of it, I feel as though I have to wash myself. His one saving grace is that he admitted that ww2 was unnecessary, though not for the reasons he promoted.

But compared to the mediocrities (even Maggie, alas) who came after him, J.S? Churchill, like him or not, really was “the Last Lion”; that doesn’t mean he was the best. As against, say, Sir John “Jacky” Fisher in 1915, there’s no question: Britain should have stuck with Jacky. But weighed against ANY postwar British politician (other than himself), I’m sorry, you have to give it to Winston.

And white girls must not look to their fathers and mothers but be like Ann Dunham and surrender their wombs to blacks and others to make non-white babies.

Same can be said for Merkel. She grew up under communism that said all socialists were brothers and sisters and comrades, and nations didn't matter anymore. But with the fall of communism, West Germany and East Germany reunited for the same reason that they shared common history, blood, memory, and destiny. After all, why didn't West Germany unify with France and why didn't East Germany unify with Poland or Czechoslovakia? Because Germans must merge with Germans.
But Merkel seems to have forgotten all of that. She berates fellow Germans and seeks to unify Germany with Nigeria and Syria. What the hell...

Ridiculous.
It's like, if South Korea is gonna merge with any nation, it should be with North Korea. If values trump blood and race, then S. Korea should merge with Japan cuz both are capitalist democracies. Of course, US wants S. Korea to become like Puerto Rico and essentially merge with US as a defacto commonwealth. That is globalism.
It's so stupid.

“Obama this, Obama that, Obama finding his identity, blah blah blah”

This is all pretty misguided. Obama is an empty suit, a hollow man. There is no there there.

You’re trying to do deep-sea diving in a little kiddie pool.

“Churchill was an appalling character in many ways. His toadying to the Soviets after the German invasion of 1941 was despicable ….”

It is wishful thinking that America could have projected the power necessary to retake Europe against a fully mobilised and full-strength Germany.

But the American (and Anglo) strategy, conceived as early as the 1920s, was to use air power to destroy the adversary's ability to produce war materiel, which is the game-plan US and British carried out in the firebombing of Germany.

Indeed, Russians did the boots-on-the-ground fighting (and raping), but not before US and Brits had reduced most of Germany to rubble, de-housed about 10 million German civilians and incinerated somewhere around 800,000 of them.
The firebombing campaign started out targeting selected war industry centers but evolved quickly to target working-class civilians vital to defense manufacturing. That provides one rationale for the creation of labor camps and forced labor -- Allies were killing German workers, so Germans pressed into labor civilians they considered complicit in the Allied strategy.
    , @Verymuchalive
    " fully mobilised and full-strength Germany "
This is completely untrue. Even the most optimistic German military figures thought it would be at least 1943 before the Reich could consider conflict with the Soviet Union.
Likewise the Soviet Union. It took until 1930 until it reached 1913 Tsarist levels of economic production. Indeed some argue that it didn't reach Tsarist levels til after the Second World War because the Soviets suppressed the real statistics.
Without outside intervention, the Soviet-German conflict would have been a prolonged and inconclusive one between 2 undersupplied militaries. Both Stalin and Hitler might have been replaced by more pragmatic figures as a result.
If we had had more rational leaders in Britain and the US, they would have recognised the benefit of having 2 potential enemies engaging in a prolonged conflict and let them get on with it. This has happened many times in history.
However, the US delivered in excess of $4 bn ( more than $4000 bn in today's terms ) military aid to the Soviets. Planes, loaded with arms, were flown via Alaska to Siberia and Kamchatka.
Plant, machinery, indeed whole factories were shipped to the Soviet Union via Murmansk, the Soviet Far East, Iran etc. Despite its benighted state, Britain also supplied the Soviet Union with considerable plant, machinery and material.
The effect was a massive military advantage to the Soviet Union. On the one hand, it was given much more materiel, on the other, its industrial capacity, ie its war capacity, was massively expanded.
By contrast, Germany had no such foreign benefactors. The allies cut off the German supplies of oil in Romania and from September 1944, German war production plummeted.
Long before that, Allied mass bombing had killed hundreds of thousands ( maybe millions ) of German civilians and caused serious loss of industrial capacity.
Not very surprisingly, the Soviets were making massive inroads on German territory in 1944 and 1945. Even the dim-witted Roosevelt twigged and he stopped military aid to the Soviets.
After being gifted victory, the biggest prize for the Soviets was to come. Between 1945 and 48, some $3 bn worth of plant and machinery were removed from East Germany to be used in the Soviet Union. Bear in mind, this is some of the most modern plant and machinery in the world.
$500 bn or even $1 trillion in today's money.

Quite possibly the greatest engineer of the 19th Century. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isambard_Kingdom_Brunel
It speaks damn well for the British that their cultural memory is intact enough to remember him.
How many Americans would be able to tell you who created the telegraph ? The sewing machine ?
Managed the building of the Panama Canal ? Discovered the cause of, and therefore the means of preventing Yellow Fever ?
    LeBron James- Gawd !

“It speaks damn well for the British that their cultural memory is intact enough to remember him.”

Brunel and his engineering marvels feature prominently in a number of BBC features, and I don’t recall hearing any of the take a tangent to discuss his use of slave labour or oppressed peoples, like that you get on largely unwatched PBS.

    Heh!

If you haven’t heard it, this reminds me of the song ‘Dick in Dixie’, from the great album Straight to Hell , by Hank Williams III.

Well, I’m here to put the DICK in Dixie,

‘cos the kinda music I’m hearing nowdays,

is a bunch of fucking shit to me.

Sometimes sing the original Hank’s songs at karaoke, but they don’t have Hank III’s, although the big CD/record shops do stock his country releases.

I am a 64 year old retiree who for the past year and a half has substitute taught grades 7-12.

Recently in English class we were discussing heroes; are the born or created? Off topic one student replied that LeBron James was his hero. I replied that professional ball players were men playing children's games and not heroes.

They have not felt the sting of taxes, so they don’t understand yet the concepts of civil government as regards what is the duty vs. the taxes paid. They haven’t yet felt for themselves the sting of a stop by police in a way that is threatening (certain elements excepted, of course), so the concepts of police powers vs. the citizen’s rights aren’t fully formulated.

There are a million pieces of life kids haven’t experienced and so the Bill of rights, notions of heroics, of wealth, the relative value of sports and culture vs. the rights and duties of belonging to a civilization aren’t relevant to their scope, their current vision as kids. We don’t help them along much allowing childhood to be extended into their twenties and we help them even less allowing children to cow the adults at University creating idiotic courses of study in exchange for cash and a printed diploma worth nothing..

Transplant Jefferson to this day, he and all the founders would demand another revolution and the perverts and women would be first to be put back in the box where they belong, for men building a civilization haven’t time for such foolishness.

And the Public Servants that built this mess the past 50 years or so? Jefferson, Washington, Franklin perhaps declared roughly stated, “When public service becomes profitable, only scoundrels will serve”. And here we are and this is what they built. And, sorry ladies, the decline is built largely on the foolishness of women and their male recruits. In government, in media, in Academics and at work. THAT is where today’s troubles reside. When you’re involved with installing perversions throughout the society, you’re too busy to watch the foxes in the financial henhouses.

Yes, the Founders would demand another Revolution.

Enclosed is a Flier we are circulating.

For THE RESTORATION OF THE REPUBLIC

“We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal… governments are instituted among men, deriving their powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles…”

The above is a portion of the Declaration of Independence, written by Thomas Jefferson.

We submit the following facts to the citizens of the United States.

The government of the United States has been a Totalitarian Oligarchy since the military financial aristocracy destroyed the Democratic Republic on November 22, 1963, when they assassinated the last democratically elected president, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, and overthrew his government. All following governments have been unconstitutional frauds. Attempts by Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King to restore the Republic were interrupted by their murder.

A subsequent 12 year colonial war against Vietnam, conducted by the murderers of Kennedy, left 2 million dead in a wake of napalm and burning villages.

In 1965, the U.S. government orchestrated the slaughter of 1 million unarmed Indonesian civilians.

In the decade that followed the CIA murdered 100,000 Native Americans in Guatemala.

In the 1970s, the Oligarchy began the destruction and looting of America’s middle class, by encouraging the export of industry and jobs to parts of the world where workers were paid bare subsistence wages. The 2008, Bailout of the Nation’s Oligarchs cost American taxpayers $13trillion. The long decline of the local economy has led to the political decline of our hard working citizens, as well as the decay of cities, towns, and infrastructure, such as education.

The impoverishment of America’s middle class has undermined the nation’s financial stability. Without a productive foundation, the government has accumulated a huge debt in excess of $19trillion. This debt will have to be paid, or suffered by future generations. Concurrently, the top 1% of the nation’s population has benefited enormously from the discomfiture of the rest. The interest rate has been reduced to 0, thereby slowly robbing millions of depositors of their savings, as their savings cannot stay even with the inflation rate.

The government spends the declining national wealth on bloody and never ending military adventures, and is or has recently conducted unconstitutional wars against 9 nations. The Oligarchs maintain 700 military bases in 131 countries; they spend as much on military weapons of terror as the rest of the nations of the world combined. Tellingly, more than half the government budget is spent on the military and 16 associated secret agencies.

The nightmare of a powerful centralized government crushing the rights of the people, so feared by the Founders of the United States, has become a reality. The government of Obama/Biden, as with previous administrations such as Bush/Cheney, and whoever is chosen in November 2016, operates a Gulag of dozens of concentration camps, where prisoners are denied trials, and routinely tortured. The Patriot Act and The National Defense Authorizations Act, enacted by both Democratic and Republican factions of the oligarchy, serve to establish a legal cover for their terror.

The nation’s media is controlled, and, with the school systems, serve to brainwash the population; the people are intimidated and treated with contempt.

The United States is No longer Sovereign

The United States is no longer a sovereign nation. Its government, The Executive, and Congress, is bought, utterly owned and controlled by foreign and domestic wealthy Oligarchs, such as the Rothschilds, Rockefellers, and Duponts, to name only a few of the best known.

The 2016 Electoral Circus will anoint new actors to occupy the same Unconstitutional Government, with its controlling International Oligarchs. Clinton, Trump, whomever, are willing accomplices for imperialist international murder, and destruction of nations, including ours.

    For Love of Country

The Restoration of the Republic will be a Revolutionary Act, that will cancel all previous debts owed to that unconstitutional regime and its business supporters. All debts, including Student Debts, will be canceled. Our citizens will begin, anew, with a clean slate.

As American Founder, Thomas Jefferson wrote, in a letter to James Madison:

“I set out on this ground, which I suppose to be self evident, ‘that the earth belongs in usufruct to the living’:”

“Then I say the earth belongs to each of these generations, during it’s course, fully, and in their own right. The 2d. Generation receives it clear of the debts and incumberances of the 1st. The 3d of the 2d. and so on. For if the 1st. Could charge it with a debt, then the earth would belong to the dead and not the living generation.”

Our Citizens must restore the centrality of the constitution, establishing a less powerful government which will ensure President Franklin Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms, freedom of speech and expression, freedom to worship God in ones own way, freedom from want “which…means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peace time life for its inhabitants…” and freedom from fear “which…means a world-wide reduction of armaments…”

Once restored: The Constitution will become, once again, the law of the land and of a free people. We will establish a government, hold elections, begin to direct traffic, arrest criminal politicians of the tyrannical oligarchy, and, in short, repair the damage of the previous totalitarian governments.

    For the Democratic Republic!

If those kids had learned the basics of critical thinking/logic and money management(home economics) they wouldn't fall prey to the university hucksters waiting for them at graduation or various pay-day and RTO scams.

You don't need life experience for that, just have the old grey matter working properly and informed.

Of course public schools won't teach this material because it screws with the agenda of turning out passive and ignorant consumers and service industry drones. This is also one of the reasons why the elites do not send their kids to public schools, they don't want their kids to grow as lemmings.

Among people in my age group, born in the 1950s and 1960s, who enjoy local business and civic leadership, I keep noticing astounding knowledge gaps. Some seem to not know that: (1) paper is an electrical insulator, (2) Charlemagne was the leader of a big European political unit, (3) "pushing the envelope" has a technical origin, and, as a metaphor is almost always used wrongly, (4) "tragic", the word, likewise has a specific meaning, but it's currently used mostly and wrongly as a synonym for "bad". Those are some top of the head examples from recent memory.

I know I sound bullshitty, a bit obsessive-compulsive, but it can be jarring as hell to hear someone important and respectable trying to persuade people of something while dropping fact-challenged sinkers in his rhetoric. I don't much know what to make of it either.

You’re doing good work so far, Jack. Call bullshit when you see it, ignore the rhetorically-challenged in their ravings and throw the scoundrels out where you can. There’s no need to know what to make of nonsense. No need to make substance of their mush.

After that, you go your very own way, for what are your options?

Thanks. I'm cherry-picking, of course, but the worst examples I have of local people in authority talking nonsense are pretty bad. (There's the union leader of a local 5000-man bargaining unit, and, in a separate instance, an Ohio appellate court judge who simply didn't understand what they were talking about, but it didn't matter. Their audiences listened politely, offered a few token questions, etc.)

BTW-my local newspaper, still independent and literate after 150 years, does a pretty good job of calling bullshit, most recently on a group of local university professors who've been proposing an ill-advised, incompetent piece of legislation to oppose fracking.

Voila’! The child is “educated”, just not in the fashion normal folk could perceive (or use). But then, there’s the money. Does the term “Diploma Mill” resonate?

"Diploma mill". Blame federal money the past sixty-some years that massively enlarged the number of college matriculants to include a whole lot of young folks whose talents and interests lie elsewhere. The lights are already beginning to dim in places, and in some it is midnight. I am reminded of the words of John Adams, to the effect that without a virtuous population, it matters not what form of government prevails. It will not be worth living in.

It is wishful thinking that America could have projected the power necessary to retake Europe against a fully mobilised and full-strength Germany.

But the American (and Anglo) strategy, conceived as early as the 1920s, was to use air power to destroy the adversary’s ability to produce war materiel, which is the game-plan US and British carried out in the firebombing of Germany.

That provides one rationale for the creation of labor camps and forced labor — Allies were killing German workers, so Germans pressed into labor civilians they considered complicit in the Allied strategy.

    @Durruti
    Jim Christian,

Nice comments - off the always interesting Linh Dinh.

It’s true that a large part of the public doesn’t know which way is up. That’s just the way it is, that’s the way it’s always been and it’s true everywhere. Mostly they have no interests beyond the personal and their role is to go to work and crank out whatever it is that they do. Society functions because of them. However, they don’t make foreign or economic policy, read blogs like this or work as researchers. Things were probably worse in the old days when literacy was much lower and only a small part of the population had any clue about what went on.
The author has written a series of interviews with ordinary, lower end of society people which I’ve found to be interesting reading and have followed. It’s a good thing he’s done it so that I don’t have to but can read the summary instead. Talking to a lot of people can be frustrating for the reasons laid out in the article and I no longer care to stress myself by engaging in any dialog with the lower % except for discussing the weather or sports and then moving on. A good book is your best friend.

Does the term “Diploma Mill” resonate?

the problem is worse than just a “diploma mill.”

taxpayer-supported schools have been turned into propaganda mills where the religion of holocaust and exceptionalism are preached and no opposition or counter-narrative is permitted.

Having looked him up on Wiki though, I can see why the Brits should be proud of him–one of the greatest engineers who ever lived from what I can see. One learns something new every day. You're doing good work so far, Jack. Call bullshit when you see it, ignore the rhetorically-challenged in their ravings and throw the scoundrels out where you can. There's no need to know what to make of nonsense. No need to make substance of their mush.

After that, you go your very own way, for what are your options?

Thanks. I’m cherry-picking, of course, but the worst examples I have of local people in authority talking nonsense are pretty bad. (There’s the union leader of a local 5000-man bargaining unit, and, in a separate instance, an Ohio appellate court judge who simply didn’t understand what they were talking about, but it didn’t matter. Their audiences listened politely, offered a few token questions, etc.)

BTW-my local newspaper, still independent and literate after 150 years, does a pretty good job of calling bullshit, most recently on a group of local university professors who’ve been proposing an ill-advised, incompetent piece of legislation to oppose fracking.

If those kids had learned the basics of critical thinking/logic and money management(home economics) they wouldn’t fall prey to the university hucksters waiting for them at graduation or various pay-day and RTO scams.

You don’t need life experience for that, just have the old grey matter working properly and informed.

Of course public schools won’t teach this material because it screws with the agenda of turning out passive and ignorant consumers and service industry drones. This is also one of the reasons why the elites do not send their kids to public schools, they don’t want their kids to grow as lemmings.

    ” fully mobilised and full-strength Germany ”
This is completely untrue. Even the most optimistic German military figures thought it would be at least 1943 before the Reich could consider conflict with the Soviet Union.
Likewise the Soviet Union. It took until 1930 until it reached 1913 Tsarist levels of economic production. Indeed some argue that it didn’t reach Tsarist levels til after the Second World War because the Soviets suppressed the real statistics.
However, the US delivered in excess of $4 bn ( more than $4000 bn in today’s terms ) military aid to the Soviets.
$500 bn or even $1 trillion in today’s money.

You miss the point that if Hitler had not been so stupid as to engage the Soviets (at least not prematurely, if at all) and had been happy to consolidate his gains in the west of Europe, Britain might not ever have become the large aircraft carrier that afforded the Western allies the opportunity to reduce the Reich and much of its industrial capacity to rubble. In that respect, the price the West paid to equip the Sovs paid off in spades, even if it did cause most of our previous generation or two to quake in their boots throughout the cold war.

"Without outside intervention, the Soviet-German conflict would have been a prolonged and inconclusive one between 2 undersupplied militaries. Both Stalin and Hitler might have been replaced by more pragmatic figures as a result."

Right, like the prolonged war between Iraq and Iran led to fall of Hussein in Iraq and Islamic regime in Iran.

US and UK at the time supplied USSR to prolong the war. They feared USSR might lose.
If Hitler had acted as 'liberator' of Slavs from communism, maybe his chances would have been better. And there was the weather. Rain and mud, snow and ice. Mother Nature helped Russia a great deal.

Anyway, Hitler's design was even more sinister than that of Stalin, so it turned into a patriotic war for the Russians.

Beatles played a role in changing music forever.

    Germans dominated classical music.
But Brits who adopted American music dominated much of Rock(a real world shaker) from 60s to 80s. Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Kinks, Floyd, Eric Clapner, Clash, The Who, T Rex, Police, Bowie, Roxy Music, etc.

Cuz Beatles were most famous, Lennon represents this great period as a whole.

The deaths in both (or the continued) World Wars totals 100 million.

  54. I think you meant Andrew Johnson instead of James Buchanan.

It’s true Americans are ignorant, but we have always been that way. On this our nation’s birthday, I’ll focus on the positive. We mainly look straight ahead, not sideways or back, so there is little interest in history or foreign countries. Our ignorance of established fact enables us to invent things like flying machines that were declared impossible or useless by the eminences of 1900. We are a pragmatic people, uninterested in ideas and grand theories, and distrustful of ideologues. Again, this has saved us from some grave errors that other countries have fallen afoul of.

God bless our ignorant country. But I fear we are in the process of outsmarting ourselves, just like all the others.

[Without outside intervention, the Soviet-German conflict would have been a prolonged and inconclusive one between 2 undersupplied militaries. ]

    Bizarre nonsense.

“Diploma mill”. Blame federal money the past sixty-some years that massively enlarged the number of college matriculants to include a whole lot of young folks whose talents and interests lie elsewhere. That also weakened the provost’s position. I sometimes quip our local state university is nothing but high school plus four.

    Heh!

If you haven't heard it, this reminds me of the song 'Dick in Dixie', from the great album Straight to Hell , by Hank Williams III.

Well, I'm here to put the DICK in Dixie,

and the CUNT back in country,

'cos the kinda music I'm hearing nowdays,

is a bunch of fucking shit to me.

Sometimes sing the original Hank's songs at karaoke, but they don't have Hank III's, although the big CD/record shops do stock his country releases.

For the mods or Mr. Unz, the ital. tag is rendered correctly around block text with line spacing when previewed, but not when posted.

Liked Hank Senior and Hank Junior, but I’m disgusted by anyone so low-class and vulgar as to put those words into a song for public consumption.

I like some heavy metal, but don't much his, he does much better with country.

In country, he works with top-class musicians, I would rate his work as better than Hank Jr.'s, on that point, sound is also much cleaner.

Straight to Hell when I bought it, was a double with 'Louisiana Stripes', starts with a cover of said song, but the rest of it is a wonderful sound collage.

There is a monthly event at a live event space in outer Tokyo, you just take music that you like and talk about it between tracks. I played my fave fast ones from Hank III there once, I am sure nobody else understood the lyrics, but the bar manager and the regular DJ loved the sound enough to confirm titles &c. afterwards.

Thanks. My view is in the minority, to be sure, and there are other factors that distract from the university's core mission. Still, what's astounding to me is that few people in positions of responsibility in my area think there's any problem with selling a bachelor's degree funded by mostly non-dischargeable debt that only about one-third will actually receive within five years. Our local Podunk Tech's five year grad rates are about 33%, and for minorities about 12%. I'm thinking there's some sort of due diligence problem on the part of the university, but, again, I'm in the minority.

  70. From the DuffleBlog:

“JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Md. — Joint Base Andrews is back under security lockdown tonight, following numerous unconfirmed reports of rockets and explosions in the sky throughout the National Capital Region.

No casualties have yet been confirmed, but Security Forces are treating the reports as serious, and have begun rerouting air traffic to other local airbases until the security lockdown is lifted.

According to a Base Security Forces spokesman, the first calls came in shortly after sundown, with callers reporting “loud explosions” just outside the base. Not long after, more calls began pouring in from base DoD civilians, claiming to see “brilliant flashes of light in the sky.”

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” says an unidentified caller on a 911 recording. “The explosions just keep coming — all different colors, different sizes.”

The lockdown has put a halt to the base’s annual Fourth of July festivities while Security Forces investigate and respond to the crisis. Base personnel have been given the order to shelter in place, and stay away from doors and windows until the all-clear is given.

The base’s scheduled fireworks show has been tentatively cancelled, until the source of the explosions can be determined.

“I’ve been overseas — it’s definitely the sound of a rocket attack,” said Airman First Class Steve Jenkins.

“I never thought, after all I’d fought for behind a desk in Kabul, that I’d be curled up under a desk in Maryland. And on the Fourth of July, of all days.”

Joint Base Andrews, home of Air Force One, was previously locked down Thursday due to reports of an active shooter during an active shooter response exercise.

This lockdown makes the third such response this week, after reports of a possible gas attack yesterday were determined to be the smell of an unflushed toilet at the Freedom Hall Dining Facility.”

It’s been ~75 years since that abomination and yet most folks haven’t figured out what it was all about and still regurgitate wartime propaganda. That’s deluded to the point of pathos.

For those interested in getting a clue, Rothbard’s monograph can be an enlightening start. (Oh, of course he musta been a self-loathing Jew…Of course.)

“Revisionism as applied to World War II and its origins (as also for previous wars) has the general function of bringing historical truth to an American and a world public that had been drugged by wartime lies and propaganda.

The least of the lessons that revisionism can teach has already been thoroughly learned ( ed: by a select few): that Germany and Japan are not uniquely “aggressor nations,” doomed from birth to menace the peace of the world. The larger lessons have, unfortunately, yet to be learned.

Now revisionism teaches us that this entire myth, so prevalent then and even now about Hitler, and about the Japanese, is a tissue of fallacies from beginning to end. Every plank in this nightmare evidence is either completely untrue or not entirely the truth.

If people should learn this intellectual fraud about Hitler’s Germany, then they will begin to ask questions, and searching questions…”

Murray Rothbard, Revisionism for Our Times, 1966.

    {...Hitler should have waited until the Soviet invasion of Europe that had been planned to commence 1 month after the German DEFENSIVE invasion of the Soviet Union?}

Another revisionist myth proffered by neo-Nazi revisionists and Hitlerite apologists to justify and explain away the genocidal crimes of Nazi invaders.

    {I humbly suggest you read a book entitled “Icebreaker” that deals extensively with this issue.}

The fake theory and the book, manufactured by a disgruntled former GRU traitor - who btw is not a historian - have been thoroughly debunked by many historians.

    I suggest your read:
[Stumbling Colossus: The Red Army on the Eve of World War]

by author David M. Glantz, and American military historian specializing in Slavic military studies.

A modicum of research would disclose that Russian and German historians are much in agreement on the premise of the book Icebreaker.

Glanz has been discredited by others more capable than I.

But thanks for the ad hominem attacks to which a weak mind always resorts. HdC

    True.

And a tiny lick of common sense would see that the book makes a lot of sense. Anyone with as much as half a cerebrum would question and doubt the usual propaganda. Furthermore, it's a crime for anyone, in this age of Google, to remain ignorant to the point of loathsome stupidity as well.

One in four Americans don’t even know which country the American War of Independence was fought against, and more than a third can’t tell you in which century it occurred.

And what are the demographic backgrounds of those “one in four Americans”? Or is that just irrelevant information, as we are so often told?

The left is trying to make new creatures out of old human beings, and new creatures need a new creation – a new origin – so the old origins have to go. That means the past has to go – the Constitution, the War of Independence, the Glorious Revolution, Jamestown – for the past is, at best, a meaningless distraction, and at worst, just downright evil. Unless you’re a Vietnamese-American who wants to talk about esoteric Asian dynasties of the 10th century, that is.

    Concur all.

I don't see the point of a "unique handle," particularly in respect of cowardice versus bravery, "Avery."

Why do so many of those obsessed with "unique handle" also seem to be single issue fruitcakes and/or serial commenters?

    {….single issue fruitcakes…..}

How did ‘anonymous’ turn into a ‘fruitcake’?
