From USA Today:

Trump gets millions from golf members. CEOs and lobbyists get access to president

Brad Heath, Fredreka Schouten, Steve Reilly, Nick Penzenstadler and Aamer Madhani, USA TODAY Published 6:03 a.m. ET Sept. 6, 2017

A USA TODAY investigation found that dozens of lobbyists and government contractors are among the members of President Trump’s private golf clubs. USA TODAY

… Because membership lists at Trump’s clubs are secret, the public has until now been unable to assess the conflicts they could create. USA TODAY found the names of 4,500 members by reviewing social media and a public website golfers use to track their handicaps, then researched and contacted hundreds to determine whether they had business with the government.

From a human interest / celebrity / world-historical standpoint, of course, the single most interesting question about a membership in Trump’s golf clubs is whether former President and husband of the 2016 failed candidate Bill Clinton is still one.

Retired NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason tweeted out a picture of President Clinton’s locker at Trump National Westchester on June 28, 2016:

But the national media was about 99% utterly uninterested in this story during the campaign, perhaps seeing it as an unwarranted invasion of the sacred privacy of the Clintons and the Trumps. Or something.

Update: I got this tweet back from one of the USA Today reporters on the story:

Screenshot 2017-09-06 13.49.17

USA Today’s logic seems to be that the story is about 4,500 Trump golf club members potentially bribing Trump by paying to belong to one of his golf clubs, while Bill Clinton’s free membership in a Trump golf club is totally different: it’s Trump bribing Clinton, so that’s not news.

The reporter follows up:

Screenshot 2017-09-06 13.57.34

In other words, Bill Clinton has temporarily made himself scarce around Trump National-Westchester, but has refused to give up his membership and still has a locker there, as Boomer Esiason’s photo shows.

Commenter Alec Leamas (hard at work) points out:

Are we pretending that people wouldn’t be paying members of a club to get access to B___ C_____ while his wife was the United States Secretary of State and putative inevitable next President of the United States? Like, you know, for a much longer time up to and including Tuesday, November 8, 2016? Would it be interesting to know which members made contributions to H> as opposed to the actual, Non-Female President?

Hey, speaking of Boomer, did you see his sidekick on WFAN was arrested today by the FBI for running a concert ticket scam (securities and wire fraud)? Apparently it was to pay off gambling debts. Boomer was joking about him calling out sick and not showing up. Then halfway through the show Boomer told listeners that Carton had been arrested and he had no further details.

Not particularly. She lost after all. You don't deal with crime and corruption by pointing at other miscreants and saying "what about that guy!?!" Unless you are a 9 year old. Trump is horribly corrupt, and enmeshed in conflicts of interest that would make Berlusconi blush. You can't clean up Washington as long as partisans keep defending malfeasance by pointing across the aisle.

My concern for Trump’s golf club members is directly connected to Trump fulfilling his major campaign promises.

It would be easy to point out the apparent hypocrisy on the part of USA Today with respect to how little interest it has shown in investigating paying members of the Clinton Foundation getting access or just what people got for paying a Clinton $700,000 to give a 40-minute talk.

But that would be to miss the unique significance of golf clubs justifying USA Today’s scrutiny.

We must remember that in the history of this oppressive country, golf clubs were nothing less than weaponized anti-Semitism.

How often did wealthy Jews stand outside the gate of some WASPy country club, dressed in colorful pants, their caddies beside them holding their bags, but able only to watch from afar as some Howell Smythington III hit off the first tee?

And Jews were only the first victims.

How many trannies today are chipping onto the greens at a Trump golf course?

How many undocumented muslim genderqueer English Department teaching assistant members of Antifa are dropping balls near a water hazard at a Trump golf course?

  16. OT – the black/white wage gap seems to be growing. A search on “migr” in the article yields no results, but if it were there I guess the author wouldn’t be executive vice president and director of the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

“More than half a century since the Civil Rights Act became law, U.S. workers continue to experience different levels of success depending on their race. Analysis using microdata on earnings shows that black men and women earn persistently lower wages compared with their white counterparts and that these gaps cannot be fully explained by differences in age, education, job type, or location. Especially troubling is the growing unexplained portion of the divergence in earnings for blacks relative to whites.”

All those factors, just one missing.

    http://www.frbsf.org/economic-research/publications/economic-letter/2017/september/disappointing-facts-about-black-white-wage-gap/

“The opportunity to succeed is at the foundation of our dynamic economy. In this context, large and persistent shortfalls for African Americans, or any other group, are troubling.”

How about the fact that real median male wages in the US have been falling since 1973? Is that troubling?

“Individuals invest in themselves based on the payoff they expect in the labor market. Lower payoffs can result in lower investment, limiting personal and generational mobility. “

Not to mention overdose deaths higher than peak HIV deaths in the US, but without the massive “we must do something” publicity.

But although the Kennedys visited country clubs in Palm Beach and the Roosevelts “were hobnobbing with the moneyed rich in the Hudson Valley or in Manhattan, the very people (Trump) is hanging out with are paying to be there in that setting with him,” said Barbara Perry, director of presidential studies at the University of Virginia’s Miller Center.

“This is unprecedented on so many levels,” she said.

I guess Barbara Perry forgot about the Clintons renting out the Lincoln Bedroom. Does she think the country clubs the Kennedys visited didn’t use that as a marketing tool to sell memberships?

Does anyone know how much golf Clinton plays now? What does he do all day, I can’t believe he spends time with Hillary.

The intrepid folks at USAToday must never have belonged to a private (golf) club. People certainly join clubs for networking among like-minded folks, to develop relationships–friendships even–aside from a round of golf and 19th hole socializing. Most clubs frown on (as in member self-enforcement) discussing business. Members want someplace to relax and enjoy–not to bring the office with them.

In this case, how do they suppose the members obtain access to Trump? As if Trump is hanging out at the poolside bar…

The purpose is to dox people with any remote connection to Trump, not to publicize conflicts among lobbyists. USAToday’s explanation is poppycock…

You are assuming Trump and the Clintons-particularly Bill- are real enemies. Try this on for size: Bill does not want to be First Bubba under the Rod. However, it's inevitable she is going to get elected. Unless....

Trump has made his money, and he has a lot of ego. And he doesn't need the donors. Play the populist card, which he can, and he has access to the groundswell of Americans who are pissed off at the GOP establishment, the low hanging fruit, that the GOP establishment ignores because there is too much donor money to lose and too much dirt on them that will magically come out if they do. Trump already has his dirty laundry in public view.

Is the Trump Presidency rooted in Bill Clinton's imagination? Probably not, but that is a big probably, if you know what I mean.

Would Bill fuck over not only his wife and co-conspirator but the entire Democratic base and all its political allies to install a nominally alt-right/populist GOP president in the WH just to keep himself from an inconvenient impediment to hanging out with who he wants to hang out with and getting a little discreet poon now and then?

The Hunt for The Great Bright Illegal Continues!

So Zuck livestreamed one of his powwows with some undocumented democrats from his house, and tried to build support for amnesty by having his cherry picked “dreamers” tell their life stories.

Dreamer #1: Indian Family illegally immigrated from Canada, Dad worked as a realtor. Went to Northwestern, and worked in PR. Now works for “FWD.us”.

Dreamer #2: Family from Mexico, illegally immigrated to California. Mother died of Cancer when young, studied kinesiology at CSU Stanislaus. Immigration Activist.

Dreamer #3: Family from Peru, overstayed visa. Her brother got run over by a car, and they went to US for some sort of additional surgery. Mother worked as a housekeeper, attended community college before going to 4 year college. Now works for “FWD.us”

While all these kids seem nice, and personally admirable, you would think people like Zuck would have at least a couple Chicanos with impressive credentials that couldn’t be tied to affirmative action. Is Jose Antonio Vargas still the best posterboy they can find out of these 11 million people?

    OT: SPLC has $69mm offshore:

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/the-southern-poverty-law-center-has-69-million-parked-overseas/article/2009553

    Why?

a "plan for the day when nonprofits like the SPLC can no longer afford to solicit support through the mail because of rising postage and printing costs." (Given that 2016 contributions topped $45 million, that day has not yet arrived.)

Somehow the ACLU gets by without:

The American Civil Liberties Union and related ACLU Foundation have combined assets of more than $250 million, but both 990s filed by the groups answer "no" to a question about "aggregate foreign investments valued at $100,000 or more."

The SPLC’s motto should be: “Making the ACLU look good in comparison since 1969″

Not particularly. She lost after all. You don’t deal with crime and corruption by pointing at other miscreants and saying “what about that guy!?!” Unless you are a 9 year old. Trump is horribly corrupt, and enmeshed in conflicts of interest that would make Berlusconi blush. You can’t clean up Washington as long as partisans keep defending malfeasance by pointing across the aisle.

Slick and the Wife of Record were once tight with The Trumpster as is well known. There was a story floating around that Slick made a suggestion to Trump that he "jump in" (the Republican Party presidential pool party) to "make things interesting." Which, of course, he did, at which point he turned against his former "friends". Yep, politics makes estranged bedfellows.

You are assuming Trump and the Clintons-particularly Bill- are real enemies. Try this on for size: Bill does not want to be First Bubba under the Rod. However, it’s inevitable she is going to get elected. Unless….

Trump has made his money, and he has a lot of ego. And he doesn’t need the donors.

Is the Trump Presidency rooted in Bill Clinton’s imagination? Probably not, but that is a big probably, if you know what I mean.

Would Bill fuck over not only his wife and co-conspirator but the entire Democratic base and all its political allies to install a nominally alt-right/populist GOP president in the WH just to keep himself from an inconvenient impediment to hanging out with who he wants to hang out with and getting a little discreet poon now and then?

” Well, do you think a guy like Tiger could quit cheating on his wife?”

OT - the black/white wage gap seems to be growing. A search on "migr" in the article yields no results, but if it were there I guess the author wouldn't be executive vice president and director of the Economic Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

"More than half a century since the Civil Rights Act became law, U.S. workers continue to experience different levels of success depending on their race. Analysis using microdata on earnings shows that black men and women earn persistently lower wages compared with their white counterparts and that these gaps cannot be fully explained by differences in age, education, job type, or location. Especially troubling is the growing unexplained portion of the divergence in earnings for blacks relative to whites."

All those factors, just one missing.

    http://www.frbsf.org/economic-research/publications/economic-letter/2017/september/disappointing-facts-about-black-white-wage-gap/

"The opportunity to succeed is at the foundation of our dynamic economy. In this context, large and persistent shortfalls for African Americans, or any other group, are troubling."

How about the fact that real median male wages in the US have been falling since 1973? Is that troubling?

"Individuals invest in themselves based on the payoff they expect in the labor market. Lower payoffs can result in lower investment, limiting personal and generational mobility. "

Not to mention overdose deaths higher than peak HIV deaths in the US, but without the massive "we must do something" publicity.

It couldn’t possibly be immigration, an advancing knowledge-based economy that favors high skills/IQ, or global wage arbitrage and the resultant stagnation of American low/middle income wages.

Go ahead, “Fight for 15″ and take on fictitious institutional racism by doling out more gimmedats. That’s the smart path forward to help blacks.
