There has been a vicious outbreak of white supremacist Trump backers vandalizing Brooklyn synagogues over the last few days. Fortunately, they’ve all been caught on security camera footage. First there was the alt-right Brandeis Black Studies major, then the white nationalist who culturally appropriated dreadlocks, and now The Jets from West Side Story:

Gentile whites—without help from anyone else—have repeatedly shown themselves capable of egalitarian excess. The French Revolution, the Clapham abolitionists, John Brown and his backers, the miscegenist enthusiasms of the Grimke sisters and other radical integrationists are all products of purely gentile delusion. Even if it were possible to prove that Jewish influence derailed what used to be a healthy American racial consciousness, that is a historical question not directly relevant to what they have done.

When a white does something ideology is blamed and people propose government indoctrination and censorship in total seriousness. What memo did the brothers get to go out and make the black hundreds black? Are we supposed to believe that black people listened to Voice of Reason and read Smoloko (which by the way was just taken down)? Maybe we should ignore* minor attacks and vandalism that can be shown to be stupid teenagers.

  40. Sort of on topic: Bill Maher’s interview / love fest with Bari Weiss is… strange to watch.

I’m sympathetic to both of them, to Bari Weiss for how she must feel to have people near to her killed in such a horrible way. And to Bill Maher for some of his polically incorrect stuff over the years.

And yet, in this exchange, there is a kind of nauseating dissonance (sorry for the mixed metaphor).

It’s most obvious in the “Jews compassionate / Israel strong” contrast.

It’s not clear to me if this is unawareness or bald faced bullying.

It reminds me a bit of the US’s double rhetoric of: we are the nicest / we kill anyone who is in our way.

I doubt it. Just copying the original cover which had one female and five males in Rat Pack-JFK/MM era suits and skinny ties. Patti Smith and Chrissie Hynde wore men’s shirts and ties a lot so it was considered stylish rather than sapphic. (A lot of punk chicks are admitted or well known mussypunchers but those two are not.)

D’s white flapper dress with arm band is also a homage to Nancy Sinatra who wore a similar getup on the back of one of her biggest albums.
