Massachusetts pioneered public schools in America and usually scores the highest of all states on various tests such as the NAEP. The state publishes a list of all public high schools by average SAT college admissions scores. The top three are exam schools, including the ancient Boston Latin, which claims a founding date of 1635. The highest scoring neighborhood public school in Massachusetts (and likely in the U.S.) is Lexington, a bedroom community for Cambridge where many college professors live.

My opinion of Lexington, MA, years ago was that it was an example of a town that had diversity that was pretty good, because the “people of color” who lived there tended to be smart, well-educated, and seemed to have middle class values. I should look up its demographics to see if it still has a high percentage of white people.

Lexington and Acton-Boxborough are dominated by Asian grinders because of being specifically targeted by Chinese and other Asian parents. Though some Chinese parents want to avoid the Asian competition and seek out other, whiter wealthy towns where their kids can outwork the white kids (I've been told this by a Chinese parent).

Newton and Brookline are heavily Jewish and have a substantially Asian minority.

Weston and Wellesley are some of the wealthiest towns in this already wealthy group, and have substantial blond(e), gentile White majorities. Their scores would be higher if they didn't import METCO diversity by the busload and, in Wellesley's case, didn't have a housing project for blacks tucked away on the very outskirts of the town by I-95.
There are plenty of college professors in these towns, too, but more executive and investment banker types. Also, some of the owners and executives of the local sports teams (e.g., Celtics, Red Sox) live there.

Seems like MA Academy for Math and Science is about 42% Asian and 52% white. Not sure exactly what base population that school is drawing its students from, but Wikipedia indicates that for instance Worcester itself is about 70% white and 6% Asian, while Boston is about 63% white and 9% Asian. (Note that the Asian category probably includes other groups apart from East and South Asians, who I’ll go out on a limb and assume disproportionately account for the Asian category in admissions to elite high schools.) Advanced Math and Science Academy though, which although good still clearly lags MA Academy, is 67% white and 20% Asian.

Not bad as far as diversity goes. I linked to numbers for Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia, another one of the nations top STEM oriented high schools you have to test into.

    http://www.insidenova.com/headlines/incoming-thomas-jefferson-freshman-class-skews-heavily-asian-mostly-male/article_f5a1813c-3b0e-11e7-a5e7-0b3e79b92f05.html

It’s a whopping 75% Asian and 18% white. My guess if you looked at list of the top high schools in America, there’s probably a non-trivial correlation between ranking and % student body Asian American.

Not bad as far as diversity goes...

My rough back of the envelope is the ideal palatable "diversity" for those who actually want diversity, is about 85% white, 10% Asian and a smattering of carefully selected others to be "diverse".

At some 10-15%? black you begin to be dealing with significant "black" issues that continually make HS life less pleasant. (I'm not sure Steve's favorite Oak Park example is going to hold up. I think they've let it get too black.)

At some other point 30%? Asian, a school starts to become significantly less fun, particularly for the smart white kids, who have to have their honors\AP class with the Asian kids and didn't actually sign up to live in Korea or China. At a further point 40-50% the Asians have qualitatively knocked down the HS experience for the white kids and white families generally stop coming, start moving out and the 'burb tends to "go Asian".

I think this data--and actually Yan Shen's posts generally--are a good marker on why diversity sucks and mass immigration is bad and a deeply un-natural thing.

People just want to live their lives in their culture, have the jobs that belong to them
(yes, i do mean "belong" to them; i.e. developed by the efforts of their ancestors), not have to put up with and dance around a bunch of foreigners with foreign ways.

Note, in the case of Asians, I think if we just friggin *stop* the insanity--stop importing any more--it will work out. They'll intermarry with whites over a few generations, adopt white UMC norms and be fine. My kids Asian friends--who are all 2nd generation--seem fine. The one I know best--who took my youngest to homecoming--is a fine young man, now working his way through the bottom rungs of the pilot career with hopes of getting to the airlines. (In terms of assimilation they don't yet--mostly--have the tribalism and chip on the shoulder about gentiles that Jews carry. And now even many secular Jews are tossing their tribalism overboard and finally--after 2000 years--marrying out.) We just need to put a hard end to the destabilizing inflow, before the racial stratification gets any worse.

This is unlike the situation with blacks where the assimilation will be negative. And much worse Muslims--who bring in a hostile religious boundary--where every single one you let in is just importing a cancer cell into your body.

The key thing to having some sort of harmony is just to for god's sake--*stop*.

See my comment above whenever it gets approved, i.e. delta in % Asian between MA Academy and Advanced Academy. As Nick Diaz might point out, it's not so much magic dirt or eldritch energies as it might be the extent to which the student body is Asian. White students in Boston do well, but it seems like for instance the clear #1 school is also the one that has the largest % of its student population that's Asian.

Indeed the Asian scores bring up the averages.

And if you could break down the White numbers into Jewish and Gentile, no doubt the scores would be directly proportional to the percentage of Jewish students in each White group.

In light of all this, it is a good thing we are on an inevitable path to giving control of the United States to both high-scoring groups.

The fun part is breaking it down by racial group. I can’t believe they let you do that, what were they thinking. It’s pretty obvious why government agencies try to hide these sorts of things. For instance ,the average verbal SAT score for Blacks in Lexington is 457 out of 800 . It’s hard not to draw some very politically incorrect conclusions from that statistic, such as maybe going to “bad schools” isn’t the main reason blacks do very poorly academically.

Every few years a Chicago area newspaper recycles a story about the inequalities in the wealthy Evanston school district. The complexity of their explanations continues to evolve and it's marvelously great fiction to read.

It's extremely difficult to give up one's bias, especially a morally formed one, when it informs a substantial part of one's existence and interaction with the world. Leftists simply cannot help this and will turn to every explanation, no matter how illogical, to avoid facing the truth about genetics and inheritance.

Being powerless is also a difficult pill to swallow. I would hate to be a environmental determinist going forward. It is going to be a real ball-buster.

Agreed, I would bet the majority of college professors live in Brookline and Newton. Executives of tech companies and investment bankers live in lily-white Westwood, Needham, and Sudbury. Lexington is very white with a noticeable East Asian population. But Lexington is no where near as East Asian as Newton. The really wealthy types live in Lincoln or Dover and their kids go to elite private schools (BBN, Noble and Greenough, et. al).

When I moved up to Boston a decade ago I was shocked by how white it is. I had never seen such lily-white towns.

    , @Coemgen
Excellent summary! Lexington is well known as an Asian-grind school system and Newton has a significant Jewish population with a growing Asian population.

Note that the "W towns" have many children in private schools who would probably move the public schools' curves to the right.

Do you mean METCO? Most of the blacks in the busing program are the children of driven, education-minded immigrant parents. NPR did a story on the METCO program and the Caribbean immigrant mother tried to enroll her son in the program when he was two weeks old. The reporter Audie Cornish attended school through the METCO program. Her parents are from Jamaica.

Amherst Regional High School also had a residential program since the 1960s that was initially for bright black boys but is now open to all minorities, although all of the boys still seem to be of African descent. They are selected from across the country and live in a house together.

While I'm sure football participation is down in Lexington, it's ridiculous to say they have "essentially no football team." They were in the quarterfinals of the state's highest division last year and are ninth in the state rankings right now (fifth among public schools).

Rollie Massamino got his start coaching basketball at Lexington HS. He leveraged the METCO players into a state championship.

If you watch This Old House, over half the projects in the last 40 years have been in Lexington and surrounding towns.

They've had a housing bubble for most of that time, and there are lots of white people that own the homes that the lefty white PBS viewers can identify with. The massive equity gives them the money to do a half million remodel; or more, lots more.

This is important to the sponsors and various companies that donate time and materials in exchange for a plug during the program and in the credits at the end; they know their core cosumer is a white peep.

When TOH started, they did little projects, remodel the basement, that a DIYer could actually do. But then they gradually moved off to projects where there was no way a DIYer could ever do. It was pros and all the homeowner did was decide on paint colors and tile...I guess there aren't that many manually dexterious peeps being born...

Sure these leftists/globalists are indeed powerless against nature. They can't make water flow uphill and they can't "close the gap". (They know that, that's not the point of "closing the gap" rhetoric.")

But they are not the least bit powerless against people. They can and do everything they can to harass us and make our lives miserable. Parasites need to keep hosts on the defensive, keep them from effectively fighting back, and these parasites are both powerful and damn determined to make sure their hosts are not allowed to rebel.

Yes. The parents are successful professionals and the school isn't required to bus in poor, below average kids from somewhere else.

The Northern California neighborhood schools are as much as 80% Asian but the East Coast neighborhood schools are primarily majority white. East Coast Asians prefer the exam schools. Thomas Jefferson High School of Science and Technology in Fairfax County, VA is 70% Asian and Bergen County Academies in New Jersey is half Asian.

Interesting. I actually graduated from ARHS, but this is the first time I've ever heard of such a program.

It should probably also be noted that UMass is located in Amherst, so you have a lot of college faculty kids attending. These are kids who might otherwise go to private school, but don't because their parents are employed by a state institution. The result is a public school system that possesses features normally only found in private schools. Or, at least, that was the case when I attended some thirty years ago.

Any common factor underlying all of those uh top high schools?

Yes. The parents are successful professionals and the school isn’t required to bus in poor, below average kids from somewhere else.

The highest scoring neighborhood public school in Massachusetts (and likely in the U.S.)

There are at least two dozen neighborhood public high schools in the US that score as high. They are mostly clustered in a few regions:

Northern VA (LINK) plus Maryland's Walt Whitman High (LINK)
    New Jersey (LINK)
    Northern California (LINK)

The Howard Gardner School (private) is located in Alexandria, VA for kids who have multiple intelligences but not the one necessary to succeed at their competitive neighborhood public high school.

Nine neighborhood public high schools in NJ outscore Lexington. The top one is Millburn with 1322. It ranks 13th in NJ overall, but the 12 ahead of them are magnet schools.

The reported number 1322, for the total of reading and math scores, along with the other numbers in that list, seems inconsistent with numbers in this list:

    https://patch.com/new-jersey/parsippany/391-nj-high-school-average-sat-scores-ranked-highest-lowest-0

In that list, the number for Millburn for all three scores is reported as 1861. But if you take 1322 from 1861, you get only 539 for the writing score. It's pretty inconceivable that Millburn scored 659 and 653 on the reading and math portions, respectively, but scored only 539 for the writing score -- over a full standard deviation lower.

I don't know where the list earlier linked to got its scores, but I find them way too high to be believable for an ordinary neighborhood school.

According to the Patch link, the highest neighborhood school SAT in NJ is Princeton HS, with an aggregate score of 1873. The aggregate score for Lexington is 1875:

It's not just Lexington. You are going to see a huge trend over the next 10-15 years of High Schools that have significant SWPL and Asian student bodies disbanding football. Centennial in Howard Country MD and West-windsor plainsboro north near princeton nj both disbanded their football teams.

You are correct. Since there were only two categories for the Massachusetts scores, I incorrectly thought I was looking at data from the new 1600 point SAT for which the scores are now higher. Since I could only find the old 2400 based scores for Northern Virginia and California, I incorrectly made allowances for the discrepancy in points. Sorry about that.

One oddity I noticed after moving to Lexington from the Midwest: essentially no high school football team. Their SWPL parents forbid it Their football bleachers seat a few hundred tops. Recently we resurrected peewee football and the town was aghast.

Hundred year old 2k square foot homes routinely go for over a million and a half these days. Cannot wait to get back to the Midwest and ten acres of land.

While I’m sure football participation is down in Lexington, it’s ridiculous to say they have “essentially no football team.” They were in the quarterfinals of the state’s highest division last year and are ninth in the state rankings right now (fifth among public schools).

Rollie Massamino got his start coaching basketball at Lexington HS. He leveraged the METCO players into a state championship.

I don’t think that Lexington is particularly high in professors compared to other Boston inner ring suburbs (all of which BTW are increasingly too expensive for someone on a professor’s salary). If you look at the map it’s not any closer than Waltham or Woburn or Newton, etc.

Lexington is however the home of MIT’s Lincoln Labs, where 40% of the staff have PhDs. Lincoln Labs is a national lab like Lawrence Livermore or Los Alamos, etc. where they do high tech defense related work for the Federal gov and MIT has the contract to run it – it was the post WWII spinoff of Rad Lab which was the Manhattan Project for radar and probably more important for winning the war.

(Note that the Asian category probably includes other groups apart from East and South Asians, who I'll go out on a limb and assume disproportionately account for the Asian category in admissions to elite high schools.) Advanced Math and Science Academy though, which although good still clearly lags MA Academy, is 67% white and 20% Asian.

Not bad as far as diversity goes. I linked to numbers for Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia, another one of the nations top STEM oriented high schools you have to test into.

    http://www.insidenova.com/headlines/incoming-thomas-jefferson-freshman-class-skews-heavily-asian-mostly-male/article_f5a1813c-3b0e-11e7-a5e7-0b3e79b92f05.html

It's a whopping 75% Asian and 18% white. My guess if you looked at list of the top high schools in America, there's probably a non-trivial correlation between ranking and % student body Asian American.

Not bad as far as diversity goes…

My rough back of the envelope is the ideal palatable “diversity” for those who actually want diversity, is about 85% white, 10% Asian and a smattering of carefully selected others to be “diverse”.

At some 10-15%? black you begin to be dealing with significant “black” issues that continually make HS life less pleasant. (I’m not sure Steve’s favorite Oak Park example is going to hold up. I think they’ve let it get too black.)

At some other point 30%? Asian, a school starts to become significantly less fun, particularly for the smart white kids, who have to have their honors\AP class with the Asian kids and didn’t actually sign up to live in Korea or China. At a further point 40-50% the Asians have qualitatively knocked down the HS experience for the white kids and white families generally stop coming, start moving out and the ‘burb tends to “go Asian”.

I think this data–and actually Yan Shen’s posts generally–are a good marker on why diversity sucks and mass immigration is bad and a deeply un-natural thing.

People just want to live their lives in their culture, have the jobs that belong to them
(yes, i do mean “belong” to them; i.e. developed by the efforts of their ancestors), not have to put up with and dance around a bunch of foreigners with foreign ways.

Note, in the case of Asians, I think if we just friggin *stop* the insanity–stop importing any more–it will work out. They’ll intermarry with whites over a few generations, adopt white UMC norms and be fine. My kids Asian friends–who are all 2nd generation–seem fine. The one I know best–who took my youngest to homecoming–is a fine young man, now working his way through the bottom rungs of the pilot career with hopes of getting to the airlines. (In terms of assimilation they don’t yet–mostly–have the tribalism and chip on the shoulder about gentiles that Jews carry. And now even many secular Jews are tossing their tribalism overboard and finally–after 2000 years–marrying out.) We just need to put a hard end to the destabilizing inflow, before the racial stratification gets any worse.

This is unlike the situation with blacks where the assimilation will be negative. And much worse Muslims–who bring in a hostile religious boundary–where every single one you let in is just importing a cancer cell into your body.

The key thing to having some sort of harmony is just to for god’s sake–*stop*.

Fully agree regarding when a suburb tips too much Asian. Perhaps one reason whites seem a bit more comfortable around Asians is due to their shared DNA admixture of Neanderthals, as well as sharing the Eurasian landmass, the World Island.
Not making excuses. Obviously there's a tipping point if we keep importing them with no end in sight.

The ideal demographic environment for Mass Academy students is probably atypical. These are students who have basically taken all of the AP courses they want in their first two years of high school. Junior year they do a large science project and a large engineering project. I've judged projects a few times and they are quite good. Then senior year they take courses at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). WPI is a good school, and Mass Academy kids tend to stand out as among the strongest students in their classes.

So being worried about hip classmates and good parties is fairly far down the list for these kids.

It benefits from being a small school, drawing from a decent amount of population (commute distance to the center of Massachusetts), and is where many WPI faculty would like their kids to attend.
    , @Asian immigration
As an Asian who immigrated here over 3 decades ago I couldn't agree with you more. I've intermarried and am raising kids who fully embrace their white heritage. The Asian immigrants today are totally different. The two biggest groups are Chinese and Indian. The Chinese didn't immigrate here because they love America and what it represents, they immigrate here because they are pretty much all corrupt government officials and businessmen looking to get out of dodge before they get thrown in jail. The Indians meanwhile are convinced that they really are the best and brightest and are here to save America from all the stupid lazy fat Americans.

Neither group appreciate this amazing country. They are here to take and demand. The Chinese bought their way in through EB5 and think that they own America. Both groups think their culture is superior to American culture, which begs the question, why are they here? Some of the most vocal anti-Trumpers out there are Indian, like Aziz Ansari and Kamala Harris, while the Chinese are not far behind like CA Dem Ted Lieu, the judges in HI and MD who struck down Trump's EO on temporary muslim ban. I see more and more Asian kids in our schools being brainwashed by the commies running our schools into asserting their Asian identity. My kids tell me some of the worst behaving kids in their school are Chinese kids who insist on speaking Mandarin loudly in school even though they are perfectly fluent in English. They didn't come here to assimilate, they come to colonize.

The problem is critical mass. Once an immigrant group reaches critical mass, they stop assimilating and start running their own parallel societies. Asians are 6% of the population but in some parts of the country like parts of the west coast and NY, they are over 50%. I agree completely that we need to stop all Asian immigration ASAP. If I love Asian culture that much, I wouldn't have moved. Now mass immigration is bringing this corrupt, oppressive, misogynistic, dog-eat-dog culture here. The Chinese are especially odious and always insist on speaking mandarin to anyone who looks remotely Chinese. We need to send packing all those who who are not yet citizens or are dual citizens, and stop more from coming in. The United States of MexChindia is not going to be a pretty place to live in.

It will never, EVER stop. First, the Third World is really “the Turd World,” awash literally in feces. The FT reports that over 75% of Indians lack access to a flushing toilet, and even middle class families like to go in what amounts to a concrete latrine with a thin curtain to keep out the flies. There is a hereditary caste of Indians who scoop out the human poop for a living. That’s the Third World in a nutshell.

The can’t change and don’t want to — hence they will be demanding to come here and won’t stop. It would take a navy to sink boats with total loss of life to stop many of them, and armed guards at airports hustling the immigrants to holding pens and pushing them back on a plane in chains to their homeland. NEVER EVER HAPPEN. White women won’t allow it. Heck White women WANT Third World misery; a life filled with human feces is a small price to pay for every man being a swaggering low IQ killer; and getting rid of their real enemies — nerdy White guys into baseball stats and noticing.

So no, the Third Wold is coming to the First and it is unstoppable. It will only get worse under President Kamala Harris and under Trump shows no signs of abating. [Trump is cucking like Ivanka and Jared want.]

White people will have to fight to carve out survival, understanding that the police, the law, the government, the media, and most White women are their enemies sworn to their destruction. This is true even or especially in Israel where the Judiciary is about to remove Bibi and tear down the wall and let Africans particularly come and live and vote. [Orban was very wise to go after judges and raise Angela Merkel's demand for rapefugees and pozzed media and courts with a bill for German Occupation and the razing of Warsaw.]

We just need to put a hard end to the destabilizing inflow, before the racial stratification gets any worse.

This is unlike the situation with blacks where the assimilation will be negative. And much worse Muslims--who bring in a hostile religious boundary--where every single one you let in is just importing a cancer cell into your body.

The key thing to having some sort of harmony is just to for god's sake--*stop*.

Fully agree regarding when a suburb tips too much Asian. Perhaps one reason whites seem a bit more comfortable around Asians is due to their shared DNA admixture of Neanderthals, as well as sharing the Eurasian landmass, the World Island.
Not making excuses. Obviously there’s a tipping point if we keep importing them with no end in sight.

At some 10-15%? black you begin to be dealing with significant "black" issues that continually make HS life less pleasant. (I'm not sure Steve's favorite Oak Park example is going to hold up. I think they've let it get too black.)

New Jersey has nine neighborhood public high schools that beat Lexington. My guess is the New Jersey schools are significantly more Asian, for the most part because New Jersey has a high Asian percentage. It would be great to see a ranking of scores among schools that are greater than 80 percent white and see which state is on top. Massachusetts might win that one, though the whiter suburbs of Jersey still do well (Morris County et al).

Being powerless is also a difficult pill to swallow. I would hate to be a environmental determinist going forward. It is going to be a real ball-buster.

There’s “powerless” and then there’s “powerless”.

Sure these leftists/globalists are indeed powerless against nature. They can’t make water flow uphill and they can’t “close the gap”. (They know that, that’s not the point of “closing the gap” rhetoric.”)

But they are not the least bit powerless against people. They can and do everything they can to harass us and make our lives miserable. Parasites need to keep hosts on the defensive, keep them from effectively fighting back, and these parasites are both powerful and damn determined to make sure their hosts are not allowed to rebel.

I agree and this is why I believe the "Ctrl-Left" moniker perfectly describes the modern progressive. To some extent, they know the resources they are stealing from us will have no impact on QuaShaun learning calculus or Ahmed learning EM physics, but that is not the point. It's a game of control and power in order to fulfill one's moral righteousness. It's their ability to take from others so as to feel good about their otherwise meaningless life that bothers me.

The end goal is the continuation of this feel-good moral quest rather than to positively impact the life outcomes of others. Empirical logic has no place nor do any effective policies. Actually solving the problem would destroy their religion and their reason for existence. I argue that deep down inside they don't want to see these people do better because it would eradicate their reasons for holding power and even existing.

  48. The highest scoring neighborhood public school in Massachusetts (and likely in the U.S.) is Lexington, a bedroom community for Cambridge where many college professors live.

Clements high school in Fort Bend county Texas is about as high scoring a neighborhood school as can be. SAT avg. 1188 (converted from 1783 old SAT) What’s amazing is the relatively small black to Asian gap. On the old three part SAT, there was slightly more than a 200 pt. gap from black to Asian. That is only about 70 pts. per section. These are rich smart Asians, too. People think housing in Texas is cheap. Not so. With a 2.5% property tax, your $300k house comes with $7500 annual tax bill.

Clements has a small number of black students, and many of them are the children of educated African immigrants (mostly Nigerian).

Clements is also majority Asian -- Chinese and Indian.

To date, the district has been able to keep Clements a top-performing school by shielding it somewhat from the dramatic demographic change surrounding it through attendance zones. Home prices certainly help. But the school has basically become an island.

However, as some of the less expensive neighborhoods around Clements age and home values fall, that won't last. You can already see the difference in feeder middle/elementary schools.

In the future, will the district be able to rezone the affluent, heavily Indian Riverstone community to Clements, and move some of the declining neighborhoods to other schools in order to protect Clements' performance? That will be very difficult to do in today's political climate.

Hundred year old 2k square foot homes routinely go for over a million and a half these days

If you watch This Old House, over half the projects in the last 40 years have been in Lexington and surrounding towns.

They’ve had a housing bubble for most of that time, and there are lots of white people that own the homes that the lefty white PBS viewers can identify with.

It was pros and all the homeowner did was decide on paint colors and tile…I guess there aren’t that many manually dexterious peeps being born…

The ideal demographic environment for Mass Academy students is probably atypical. These are students who have basically taken all of the AP courses they want in their first two years of high school. Junior year they do a large science project and a large engineering project. I’ve judged projects a few times and they are quite good.

Excellent summary! Lexington is well known as an Asian-grind school system and Newton has a significant Jewish population with a growing Asian population.

Note that the “W towns” have many children in private schools who would probably move the public schools’ curves to the right.

As an Asian who immigrated here over 3 decades ago I couldn’t agree with you more. I’ve intermarried and am raising kids who fully embrace their white heritage. The Asian immigrants today are totally different. The two biggest groups are Chinese and Indian. The Chinese didn’t immigrate here because they love America and what it represents, they immigrate here because they are pretty much all corrupt government officials and businessmen looking to get out of dodge before they get thrown in jail.

Some of the most vocal anti-Trumpers out there are Indian, like Aziz Ansari and Kamala Harris, while the Chinese are not far behind like CA Dem Ted Lieu, the judges in HI and MD who struck down Trump’s EO on temporary muslim ban. I see more and more Asian kids in our schools being brainwashed by the commies running our schools into asserting their Asian identity. My kids tell me some of the worst behaving kids in their school are Chinese kids who insist on speaking Mandarin loudly in school even though they are perfectly fluent in English. They didn’t come here to assimilate, they come to colonize.

If I love Asian culture that much, I wouldn’t have moved.

It’s pretty inconceivable that Millburn scored 659 and 653 on the reading and math portions, respectively, but scored only 539 for the writing score — over a full standard deviation lower.

I don’t know where the list earlier linked to got its scores, but I find them way too high to be believable for an ordinary neighborhood school.

According to the Patch link, the highest neighborhood school SAT in NJ is Princeton HS, with an aggregate score of 1873. The aggregate score for Lexington is 1875:

The link I posted for the New Jersey scores may or may not be for the new 1600 point SAT. The scores in the math and reading section of the new 1600 point SAT are higher than the old 2400 point version. The data you have from Patch is probably accurate since it is definitely the 2400 point version, same as the Massachusetts scores above.

I think I will bow out of SAT talk since I am having difficulty figuring out what version of the exam we are talking about. The data for the new 1600 point SAT will be out this fall and I mistakenly assumed the Massachusetts scores were new.

In Charles Murray's book White America, his ideal community is Belmont, MA. A majority white, SWPL, Where Romney lived, etc. And yet Belmonts high school is far down on the list for academic achievement. Wonder why this appear to be the case?

Belmont has many very rich sections, but it also has a quite large section that’s mostly composed of two or (I think) even three family homes. There you will find the hoi polloi.

This is getting too real. I live right by Hayden. I'd never considered another iSteve reader might be down the road.

I agree though, my children certainly won't be playing football either. I'm quite the hypocrite. I silently loathe my SWPL neighbors and their erudite ways, romanticising the cornfed boys I grew up with and their simple charm. I reflexively cheer anything they hate, often not bring terribly rational about it.

It happens that I live in Lexington too.

Who would have guessed that the three people in Lexington who hated Hillary would all show up on the same board?

The nova link shows the results of the three subject scores out of 2400 while steve's chart shows just the traditional two subjects. Unless scores are significantly lower on the writing portion, only Thomas Jefferson, the math and science magnet school, comes out ahead of Lexington.

  65. I just shake my head when I read Whites complaining about “Asian grinds” or “Asian grinders” because I hear echoes of black punks complaining about their academically-successful peers “acting white.”
It’s pretty sad to see Whites reduced to trying to denigrate success.
When admission standards are both stringent and objective, the best schools end up primarily Asian. After decades of telling the blacks that they ought to just live with the “under-representation” that results from such standards, we’re now unwilling to do just that?

Indeed the Asian scores bring up the averages.

And if you could break down the White numbers into Jewish and Gentile, no doubt the scores would be directly proportional to the percentage of Jewish students in each White group.

In light of all this, it is a good thing we are on an inevitable path to giving control of the United States to both high-scoring groups.

Your fantasy about high-scoring Jewish students is at least two generations out of date, as the comprehensive research of no less than Ron Unz himself has documented.

I have a point NOW, not just in the future, because whites are complaining NOW about losing out to harder-working (and possibly smarter) Asians. Whites are NOW beginning to make the same pathetic arguments that blacks have floated for decades. "Look beyond the test scores." "Honor diversity." Losers' arguments, all. Either be smarter, or work harder - or STFU and live with the results.

The highest scoring neighborhood public school in Massachusetts (and likely in the U.S.) is Lexington, a bedroom community for Cambridge where many college professors live.

Clements high school in Fort Bend county Texas is about as high scoring a neighborhood school as can be. SAT avg. 1188 (converted from 1783 old SAT) What's amazing is the relatively small black to Asian gap. On the old three part SAT, there was slightly more than a 200 pt. gap from black to Asian. That is only about 70 pts. per section. These are rich smart Asians, too. People think housing in Texas is cheap. Not so. With a 2.5% property tax, your $300k house comes with $7500 annual tax bill.

    http://www.har.com/school/079907004/clements-high-school

Clements has a small number of black students, and many of them are the children of educated African immigrants (mostly Nigerian).

Clements is also majority Asian — Chinese and Indian.

To date, the district has been able to keep Clements a top-performing school by shielding it somewhat from the dramatic demographic change surrounding it through attendance zones. Home prices certainly help. But the school has basically become an island.

However, as some of the less expensive neighborhoods around Clements age and home values fall, that won’t last. You can already see the difference in feeder middle/elementary schools.

In the future, will the district be able to rezone the affluent, heavily Indian Riverstone community to Clements, and move some of the declining neighborhoods to other schools in order to protect Clements’ performance? That will be very difficult to do in today’s political climate.

Being powerless is also a difficult pill to swallow. I would hate to be a environmental determinist going forward. It is going to be a real ball-buster.

There's "powerless" and then there's "powerless".

I agree and this is why I believe the “Ctrl-Left” moniker perfectly describes the modern progressive. To some extent, they know the resources they are stealing from us will have no impact on QuaShaun learning calculus or Ahmed learning EM physics, but that is not the point. It’s a game of control and power in order to fulfill one’s moral righteousness. It’s their ability to take from others so as to feel good about their otherwise meaningless life that bothers me.

The end goal is the continuation of this feel-good moral quest rather than to positively impact the life outcomes of others. Empirical logic has no place nor do any effective policies. Actually solving the problem would destroy their religion and their reason for existence. I argue that deep down inside they don’t want to see these people do better because it would eradicate their reasons for holding power and even existing.

It's not that bad, those homes are beautiful and Lexington itself is visually pleasing. And between me and you, I ain't letting my kid play football either. Hockey is the perfect medium between prissy no contact and the frequent contact in football.

And in my experience the upper middle class seems to agree: hockey stars sprout from wealthy places like Lexington. Though few stay in town to play, Lexington's rink is ugly and their town programs produce mediocre talent for the most part.

There’s a hierarchy for Massachusetts high school hockey players:

Good players go to public schools.
Excellent players go to Catholic schools.
Top 5% of players play in the ISL.

I linked to numbers for Thomas Jefferson High School in Virginia, another one of the nations top STEM oriented high schools you have to test into.

It’s a whopping 75% Asian and 18% white. My guess if you looked at list of the top high schools in America, there’s probably a non-trivial correlation between ranking and % student body Asian American.

Yan is so annoying and tone deaf that I can’t help but think that he’s probably an intentional troll.
