In the New York Times, a sensible oped from a lady law school prof who used to run in the women’s 800m internationally:
Sex, Sport, and Why Track and Field’s New Rules on Intersex Athletes Are Essential
By DORIANE LAMBELET COLEMAN APRIL 30, 2018
Doriane Lambelet Coleman competed in track and field internationally during the 1980s and is a professor of law at Duke Law School.
Last week, track and field’s world governing body limited entry into women’s events to athletes who have testosterone levels that are capable of being produced solely by ovaries.
These rules apply across the board to athletes however they presented at birth. Advocates for intersex and transgender athletes have vigorously attacked the International Association of Athletics Federations’ new rules…
I’m more sympathetic to the intersex [i.e., they are boys on the inside] than transgender athletes: the former didn’t choose, they were born with a birth defect.
And the intersex individuals are extremely rare, so they aren’t a common problem in, say, girls’ high school athletics (except perhaps at the state championships). But at higher levels of the competitive pyramid even a tiny number can dominate the medals, making a farce out international women’s sports. For example, all three medals in the women’s 800m running race at the 2016 Olympics were won by runners who sure look like they are internally male.
Understanding the rules and why they make sense is hard. They are based in biology people don’t know or don’t like to talk about and, let’s be honest, at least in some circles, they’re politically incorrect. They force us to talk about women’s bodies when it is increasingly taboo to do so, and they run counter to the movement that seeks to include transgender and intersex people in social institutions based on their gender identity rather than their biology.
These are important progressive developments, but their effects on valuable institutions like women’s sport are real and they need to be understood before positions harden on bad information. Pretending that the female body doesn’t exist or that we can’t define the boundaries between men’s and women’s bodies is a bad idea for many reasons. Replacing traditional sex classifications with classifications based on gender identity certainly has steep costs in contexts like competitive sport, where the likelihood of success is precisely about sex-specific biology.
The reason the Olympics have separate events for women (in most disciplines other than a few like equestrian and sailing) is because women are the weaker sex.
… Specifically, the athletes who are the focus of the I.A.A.F.’s rules are those who have testes [internally]. Starting in puberty and as adults, their testes produce sperm, not eggs, and supply testosterone in quantities that biologically female bodies and their ovaries never come close to producing.
The male range at its lowest is three times higher than the female range at its highest. At puberty these athletes developed male, not female, secondary sex characteristics: increased muscle mass and strength, including increased heart size; higher hemoglobin levels, which result in better oxygen carrying capacity; and different muscle types and ratios of fat to muscle.
Advocates for intersex athletes like to say that sex doesn’t divide neatly. This may be true in gender studies departments, but at least for competitive sports purposes, they are simply wrong. Sex in this context is easy to define and the lines are cleanly drawn: You either have testes and testosterone in the male range or you don’t. As the I.A.A.F.’s rules provide, a simple testosterone test establishes this fact one way or the other.
Testosterone throughout the life cycle, including puberty, is the reason the best elite females are not competitive in competition against elite males. This 10- to 12-percent sex-based performance gap is well documented by sports and exercise scientists alike. But it isn’t the most important performance gap. Rather, that’s the mundane fact that many nonelite males routinely outperform the best elite females.
Each year, the world’s best time in the women’s marathon is surpassed by hundreds of men. The women’s world records in all of the races on the track from 100 meters to 10,000 meters are also surpassed by many men each year, including by many high school boys. For example, in 2017, 36 boys ran faster than Florence Griffith Joyner’s seemingly unassailable 100-meter record of 10.49.
There is no characteristic that matters more than testes and testosterone….
Because of this, without a women’s category based on sex, or at least these sex-linked traits, girls and women would not have the chance they have now to develop their athletic talents and reap the many benefits of participating and winning in sports and competition. Eric Vilain, a geneticist who specializes in differences of sex development, has been blunt about it: removing sex from the eligibility rules would “be a disaster for women’s sport … a sad end to what feminists have wanted for so long.” …
It’s a good measure of how dumbed-down our discourse has become that to many these days this logic isn’t obvious to many these days. The highest priority in 2018 is not to understand reality but to attack horrible people who say things like: The reason that separate sports events for women exist is because women are the weaker sex.

Look at the bright side.
With all these men-identifying-as-women, this may lead to the end of the Olympics.
No IOC. No overdoped athletes. No wild spending on silly stadiums (and ‘velodromes’ and the like).
If you take an XY or an XX fetus and administer a dose of testosterone at the right time - it will grow a penis. The next dose will effect it's developing brain and set the creature up to receive more and bigger doses at puberty. Sometimes we're told the baby isn't able to respond properly to these shots of T and we get something like Jamie Lee Curtis - the man who looks like a woman. (Actually I'm not sure I believe that in her case.)
But the point is, as soon as it became possible to shoot up with T, anyone could be a man or more of a man. Maybe we should limit body builders to only testosterone - no HGH, insulin or injected oil. When a people get as much control over their bodies as we now have, there is no "natural" only various arbitrary versions of artificial.
For example when the Greeks had the first Olympics these kind of problems didn't exist. If a baby was born intersex it would probably just be exposed. In Rome there was little concern with doping of chariot horses or other cheats because a chariot was the fastest thing there was. Were I to get a time machine and go back to the Circus Maximus I would always win (I would drive a Ferrari). And I would keep winning until the other time travelers arrived. Then we would have to develop all the laws, rules and governing bodies we are familiar with today.
It will only get worse when some people choose to be robots. When runners start to cut off their legs so as to run faster - that will be a sign.
Someone needs to ask Serena Williams what her take on this issue is.
“If I were to play Andy Murray, I would lose 6–0, 6–0, in 5 to 6 minutes,” Serena Williams told David Letterman on the Late Show last week. “I wouldn’t do Billie Jean any justice, so Andy, stop it. I’m not gonna let you kill me.”
She has other quotes and occasionally she will give a conflicting answer but she's never came right out and said she could beat any of the touring pro men.
IMO, how this is even up for discussion shows how far we've falling into the PC rat hole.
I just don’t think it’s an entitlement to participate in high level athletic competitions. I think trans should be banned, just the same way I am banned (for having no talent).
When the trans thing reaches the level where they dominate the top levels of many regular sports, I think female athletes’ current reticence to voice their opposite will evaporate.
They should call this the ‘Caster Semenya Rule’ and be done with it — but they won’t — because they don’t have the guts — just like for years they didn’t have the guts to stop Semenya from running against and taking medals from women with normal testosterone levels.
I’m more sympathetic to the intersex [i.e., they are boys on the inside] than transgender athletes:…
How magnanimous — but the issue here is that no matter how hard they’ve trained, Semenya’s competitors have faced an unfair disadvantage for years due to the cowardice of athletics authorities — every decent person has sympathy for Semenya and anyone similarly afflicted.
“It’s a good measure of how dumbed-down our discourse has become that to many these days this logic isn’t obvious to many these days.”
Yep. Just as a thought experiment, I’ve tried to imagine a reasonably educated man or woman of 1918 time traveling to 2018. Then, imagine trying to explain the social and political world of today to that person. I’m not sure I could do a good job of “selling” 2018 to 1918. Maybe I’m not “chronocentric” enough.
I bet a week of living in 2018 would put some steel back in their spines.
I would add that the dumbing down is caused and led by a relatively small number of people. Beyond the core of ideologues in the women’s studies department, who would ever believe that male and female aren’t biological? Their craziness is useful in many ways to the real power brokers in politics and business, proving I suppose that no idea is too stupid if it’s backed by enough money.
I recall a quote from a letter written by a Roman patrician, a pagan, during the time when the early Christians were coming to dominate in Rome. Pagans and Christians were fighting in the streets for control of the temples. The Christians had the tacit and indirect support of Constantine, but the majority of the Roman elite were still pagan.
The writer lamented that they were losing power to the dumbest morons in the empire.
The Christians were doing the DDYING in the streets and the arenas, the pagans were doing the fighting.
Took awhile for the pagans to lose their pagan ways, though, even after conversion. Like gladiator bouts continued, though less so, sporadically, until that one monk Telemachus ran into the arena and cried out, "In the name of Jesus Christ, STOP!" That crowd cried for blood, the emperor said okay thumbs down, the fighter killed him,. The crowd sunk got silent and skunked out of the arena. That changed the conversation on it.
Just like today. It is the US-financed US-backed pagans (aka "radical Muslims") in Syria and Iraq and Libya who are doing the beheadings and carving crosses into their dead Christian victim's chest --when they're not tearing their hearts out. And eating them like that one monster
And that pales in the face of what the Communist pagan monsters did in the 20th centiliry.
My middle school age daughter is competing in the 800, and she’s really good Her mom was an all-state swimmer, and I ran the 400 pretty damn fast in high school, so it makes some sense.
I’m proud of her. She’s a tough, speedy little thing, and I get a kick out of it. She’s also 100% girl, and I appreciate that side of her too.
She’s not too much slower than the boys at this point, but in a few years when she’s in her teens they’re going to blow her out of the water.
At that point, the last thing I want to see is some tranny prancing around after beating a bunch of girls, including my daughter, and waving a medal. Her school will truly learn the meaning of “deplorable” if that happens.
I deliberately kept my daughter out of men’s sports like soccer and basketball to prevent her from getting permanently injured (yes, girls often get debilitating injuries from these sports, much more so than boys). I even had to show her the scars on my legs and face to convince her it wasn’t a good idea. I don’t know why parents insist on putting their daughters at high risk of ACL tears and such just to gain some parental glory, but it’s an unfortunate trend these days.
So here I am, telling her there’s plenty of places for safe, healthy athletic competition as a girl, and these people want to take that away from her. Is it wrong and hateful of me to be really angry about that?
I will teach her to shoot; guns, crossbows and compound bows and long bows. And also about knives. Pikes, maces and double-sided battle axes are still up for negotiation with her mother. But trebuchets are a given.
In addition to having fertility problems, permanently stunted growth, and early menopause (complete with osteoporosis) before the age of 30, an 18-year-old woman with the body of an 11-year-old is a magnet for perverts.
Look at Lyudmilla Tourischeva or Nelli Kim, both strong but definitely female, compared to gymnasts in the last few Olympics. It's sickening.
And you’re right about contact sports being potentially catastrophic for girls. I am in my late 20s and have all sorts of health problems from softball and soccer. Injuries I got years ago are flaring up, in my hip, knee and neck. It probably wouldn’t be an issue but parents get too into it and push the girls too hard and injuries occur that the female body simply can’t withstand that well due to the more delicate bone structure. To some extent the same is true of boys sports. Contact sports in general are too rough these days as parents invest more time/money into make their kid a star.
Unfortunately this can still be gamed by an intersex guy who develops like a man until the Olympics, then gets the testes taken out but supplements with T to the point “they” are just below the limit.
Still a big improvement!
Having a high testosterone level when young will lead to stronger bones, joints (all these will protect you against injuries long after the high testosterone levels are gone), and a predisposition to build stronger muscles even in the absence of testosterone. Our bodies don't just react to serum testosterone levels in the simplistic way of "high T, big muscle, low T, small muscle," instead they build a kind of permanent big muscle which will be easier to maintain than if you had never had high T-levels and, just as important, you'll be able to reach muscle levels reached earlier (or close to them) even with lower serum testosterone in your blood.
In other words, some of the muscle gains due to higher testosterone levels are more or less permanent (at least on a ceteris paribus basis, i.e. they will always be higher well into old age than if you never had those high testosterone levels). This was an issue with doping bans: some anti-doping people were arguing that higher muscle mass could be sustained long after two-year bans expired. Since it would lead to interesting questions (what about those who dope to the hilt before becoming competitive athletes - it's possible in some sports, and probably would be more common if only athletes were aware of the possibility...), so it's not a topic many are willing to discuss.
Here's an interesting article about anabolic steroids (which are basically synthetic testosterone supplements, so what's true of the benefits of anabolic steroids is probably also true of the benefits of naturally higher testosterone levels):

You should bring back The Spearhead
Yep.
Science (and nature) is politically incorrect. You’d think that in 2018, objectively valid scientific facts wouldn’t be controversial, would you? But you’d be wrong.
And the Left, which has prided itself on being “scientific” and “rational” and derided right-wingers as unsophisticated, Bible-thumping rubes ever since the Scopes Monkey Trial of 1925, are the ones pushing all of this unscientific nonsense.
The fact is that the “equality” of the sexes, like the “equality” of the races, is an artificial and a political belief, not a scientific one. And in order to continue perpetuating such falsehoods in the face of objective facts, it becomes more and more necessary to utilize Soviet-style propaganda and Soviet-style methods of political correctness.
Just as it was said that if Stalin said that 2+2=5, everyone would agree, if the powers-that-be today assert that the sexes are equal, then they are… or else.
The elite female athletes I knew were pretty burly and looked less injury prone than 99.9% of women.
The motivation at the HS level is partly college admissions. For every football scholarship, there has to be one given to a female. For an upper middle class family just barely above the need-based aid level, that could be worth a good $250,000 all in when you consider both the loan, the subsidies, and the saved interest on the loans.
(Unless his unwavering dream is to be an oncologist or a tenured astrophysicist and he exhibits the requisite intellectual aptitude, I shall encourage my son to become a tradesman or entrepreneur or some such, so he can work for himself and make more money than the vast majority of persons with conventional degrees, all for the price of a few years at a community college or an apprenticeship.)
Thus, any student without stellar talent developing a foundation in the genetic jackpot (people like Michael Phelps, Mikaela Shiffrin, Greg Maddux, etc.) pursuing sports to attend (or save money on) college is just silly. Hey, if you love running, skiing, or soccer, great: keep it up; it's not as though millions of people don't engage in rewarding athletic activity outside of academia.
I wonder how old the youngest of the boys was. A couple of years ago, the Australian national women’s soccer team, just before they lef thome for the World Cup finals, played a boys team aged under 15 and lost 7-0.
Anyway, I’m astonished that the New York Times printed that sentence. I am even more astonished that an academic dared to write that in a major newspaper opinion piece in 2018 and I fully expect that the heavens will come crashing down on her for her hate speech.
See Mr. Coleman:
https://law.duke.edu/features/2004/jcoleman/
My 15 yo son's team had their way with a pro women's soccer team that included numerous national team players from several countries.
Still a big improvement!
Yep, the larger heart and increased bone mass would be a big help for several events. It raises the bar a bit for those who want to compete as women, but certainly doesn’t close the door.
From a truly progressive standpoint, wouldn’t the sensible thing to do now, now that we know what we know, be to have different sex-blind “weight classes”, so to speak, based on T-level?
That would almost certainly also open up more opportunities for non-black athletes in many sports.
If liberal society refuses to acknowledge that the vast majority of women are physically weaker than men, then it’s inevitable that some genetic males with sex identity disorders are going to want to compete in women’s sports. And in fairness, why should they feel any moral hangups about beating someone that society tells them is their physical equal?
There is a similar lack of reality in manual trades. The other day I read an article about women in trades in New Zealand. Apparently most of them are going into lighter trades like electrical work and very few are going into heavy trades like roofing and brick laying. The author of the article then argued that this was an example of women “not being given a fair crack” at manual trades. He seemed to think it was a good idea for women to injure themselves doing heavy trades.
I say fill up the US military with women.
No men allowed. They controlled the military for TOO LONG.
Let an all-female US military invade and occupy the world. LOL. That will destroy Neocon foreign venture faster than anything.

Vilain or Villain? Must be a typo….
Mark the calendar. Someone is actually advocating for women for a change.
Never mind injuries. One of us is going to get killed one of these days.

No. And thanks, because I am going to follow your lead with my daughter. No “men’s sports like soccer and basketball” at all.
I will teach her to shoot; guns, crossbows and compound bows and long bows. And also about knives. Pikes, maces and double-sided battle axes are still up for negotiation with her mother. But trebuchets are a given.
It’d be funny if someone called for racial segregation in sports because biological race-ism favors blacks over all others.
How about a rule that if a Mexican guy shoots a hoop, it counts for 5 pts. If a Hindu or Asian makes a hoop, it counts for 6 pts.
may want to fix that, unless it was a tongue-in-cheek irony
The entire #MeToo thing is predicated on women being the weaker sex. Only it’s accompanied by a public delusion that women “telling their stories” somehow equates to physical strength.
Weaker in terms of power and influence. Physical strength is largely irrelevant. An enfeebled Harvey Weinstein wouldn't have had much luck trying to overpower physically fit young actresses, but he had largely unlimited power in the industry and wasn't afraid to use it.
A general??????
She wrote a well justified, logical and sensible piece. So … she’ll be torn to shreds, by the usual mob.
Incidentally, I’v e always wondered why women need separate events in Chess, of all things. Separate tournaments, some female-only titles, separate Olympiad events.
Guess some of those chess pieces can be pretty heavy …
Anyway, I'm astonished that the New York Times printed that sentence. I am even more astonished that an academic dared to write that in a major newspaper opinion piece in 2018 and I fully expect that the heavens will come crashing down on her for her hate speech.
One boy (10.47) was born in 2001. The rest were born in 2000.
With all these men-identifying-as-women, this may lead to the end of the Olympics.
No IOC. No overdoped athletes. No wild spending on silly stadiums (and 'velodromes' and the like).
The city of Montreal, Quebec, is still paying off the debt for the 1976 Olympics. 1976! Meanwhile the stadium built for it is falling apart.
No no, women are just as strong.
I say fill up the US military with women.

He’s not just obese but very big boned and broad shouldered. He probably has big hands too. He might be fat, fifty and flabby, but just his sheer mass and normal difference in height would enable him to overpower most women and a lot of men
What is he, 300 pounds? And at least a yard wide at the shoulders.
I would prefer that we just be consistent as a society. Either we acknowledge that men and women have different, separate, and equally important roles* in society or we view them as interchangeable.
If the latter, there should simply be one event that both men and women are allowed to enter; and if only men win, so be it. You can’t have it both ways. You can’t say that same sex schooling is retrograde and old gender roles are outdated whilst simultaneously having separate men’s and women’s events. If women are going to be allowed to join the Marines and men go to nursing school then women should be able to run in the men’s events, and the men’s in the women’s, and thus we might as well have only one event.
Our current system is inconsistent and (surprise!) has a carve-out for women. Equal rights and opportunities for the ladies, plus some lagniappe.
*maybe not equally important. I would argue women’s traditional role is more important than men’s, as it is more central to the propagation of the species.
What’s the over-under on the number of days before this Duke professor recants or apologizes for her op-ed? One? Two? No more than two.
I will teach her to shoot; guns, crossbows and compound bows and long bows. And also about knives. Pikes, maces and double-sided battle axes are still up for negotiation with her mother. But trebuchets are a given.
Martial arts are good sports for women too. I train with several women, including the head of our dojo. While it is true that the women are no match for equally trained men, the women can be excellent fighters in their own right. It’s great exercise, doesn’t have to be full contact or injurious, and has the added benefit of teaching the young lady how to successfully kick a man in the groin, if the need arises.
On the plus side, some of the Asian chicks were really easy on the eyes. One did NOT want to hurt them and so was very very careful in sparring. In general, sparring with women is a losing proposition for men for the obvious reasons, unless it's simply an opportunity for both sides to get up close and personal without admitting it.
A great sport for tall, lanky women is high-jumping. They have to have a high center of gravity and be very light, so they tend to to be long-legged and pleasingly slim. Not surprisingly, many of the top female high-jumpers are real babes.
I recently retired as an electrician after 40 years. There is a wide variety of skill sets that can be learned in the electrical trade. I wouldn’t consider put putting 4″ rigid conduit in trench light work.
Most women I have met in the trades usually get married or get hurt and go out on disability by their mid forties. So they have possibly denied a man the opportunity to earn a good wage and support a family. They also cheated the contractors out of their full investment in the apprenticeship program because they don’t get the 35-45 year return on their investment in the training.

No it isn’t. One of the reasons gymnastics is such a mess now is the shift away from graceful moves suited to a female body towards power moves suited to male or undeveloped female bodies. If the girls start training intensely at an early age, puberty is delayed or never properly completed.
In addition to having fertility problems, permanently stunted growth, and early menopause (complete with osteoporosis) before the age of 30, an 18-year-old woman with the body of an 11-year-old is a magnet for perverts.

For chess? Women are either dumber or less insanely autistic (depending on how you want to view it) so any competition that includes both sexes will be dominated by men- as in 98-99.9% of the top players will be men.
With the commercialization of Olympic sports, women’s athletics has become a joke, because the more a woman resembles a man, the more likely she is to win. Even Florence Griffith-Joyner, who set the great women’s world record for the 100 meters, though undeniably female, was strongly suspected of having used steroids to enhance her physique.
How about a rule that if a Mexican guy shoots a hoop, it counts for 5 pts. If a Hindu or Asian makes a hoop, it counts for 6 pts.
It’ll happen. And given the fractional racial make up of most of us, the appropriate scores will have to be calculated in intricate detail, in real time. Thank God for supercomputers!
And yet. Even an only moderately-attractive guy can get the date of his choice simply by finding a table full of women, sitting down to join them and exclaiming, “You know, it’s incredible how strong and independent women really are!”
You don’t even have to appear completely sincere. It’s like catnip, I tells ya, though–alas–it also implies that the weakness isn’t only physical. Cf: Richard III.
Myself to be a marvellous proper man.
“For example, in 2017, 36 boys ran faster than Florence Griffith Joyner’s seemingly unassailable 100-meter record of 10.49.” And Flo Jo was loaded to the gills with Ped’s, especially HGH. At least she was a babe and didn’t have a hidden nut sack.
How about a rule that if a Mexican guy shoots a hoop, it counts for 5 pts. If a Hindu or Asian makes a hoop, it counts for 6 pts.
Seems sensible actually. Then all races could have winners.
Still a big improvement!
Would this be a born as a male critter?
I remember a long time ago an affirmative action woman general complained about sex harassment.
A general??????

This is just the old Renee Richards/Billie Jean King issue. While we need females as lovers, mothers, police detectives and most everything else the one arena we do not NEED them in is as athletes. No one realistically expects a woman to compete with men when it comes to sport. Its like a bringing a cat to a dog fight. The cat might even make the dog back off if the stakes are not too high but if the dog is hungry or enraged… the cat is in trouble.
Still, we all enjoy cats doing cat like things. They are good at what they do and we enjoy watching them do it. Dogs have their talents too. Let each be what they are and let’s let men and women do the same.
Perhaps the ‘intersex’ should compete in the paralympics instead?
If the latter, there should simply be one event that both men and women are allowed to enter; and if only men win, so be it. You can't have it both ways. You can't say that same sex schooling is retrograde and old gender roles are outdated whilst simultaneously having separate men's and women's events. If women are going to be allowed to join the Marines and men go to nursing school then women should be able to run in the men's events, and the men's in the women's, and thus we might as well have only one event.
Our current system is inconsistent and (surprise!) has a carve-out for women. Equal rights and opportunities for the ladies, plus some lagniappe.
*maybe not equally important. I would argue women's traditional role is more important than men's, as it is more central to the propagation of the species.
systemic sexism. affirmative action is required. there you get consistency.
Along with female athletics, these trannies are killing comedy. Seriously, this used to be satire …
The thing is nowadays people enjoy watching monsters. It’s like the progression of fine arts: to the uglier and ugliest. Value of surprise seems to always be greater than elses’. And surprise by being uglier is so much easier, I suppose.
Look at footage of Larisa Latynina's floor ex routine on youtube. It's mostly moves I could have done easily in high school, and pre-schoolers can do them now, but with her obvious training in ballet, so graceful that it's a joy to watch:

Hans Christian Andersen wrote his AEsop like parable of ‘the emperor’s new clothes’ precisely to expose this kind of conceit/deceit.
The Deep State is the pompous emperor.
Still a big improvement!
It’s even worse than that.
Having a high testosterone level when young will lead to stronger bones, joints (all these will protect you against injuries long after the high testosterone levels are gone), and a predisposition to build stronger muscles even in the absence of testosterone. Our bodies don’t just react to serum testosterone levels in the simplistic way of “high T, big muscle, low T, small muscle,” instead they build a kind of permanent big muscle which will be easier to maintain than if you had never had high T-levels and, just as important, you’ll be able to reach muscle levels reached earlier (or close to them) even with lower serum testosterone in your blood.
Since it would lead to interesting questions (what about those who dope to the hilt before becoming competitive athletes – it’s possible in some sports, and probably would be more common if only athletes were aware of the possibility…), so it’s not a topic many are willing to discuss.
Here’s an interesting article about anabolic steroids (which are basically synthetic testosterone supplements, so what’s true of the benefits of anabolic steroids is probably also true of the benefits of naturally higher testosterone levels):

One of the few pleasant surprises of aging!
I did 4 6-week cycles in my early 20s: one of Dianabol [pills]; one of deca-durabolin; one of deca and Winstrol, and one of stanazol.
During that time I got to ~265lb reasonably-lean - benching 330lb for sets of 8, and squatting 450lb for reps. I couldn't run out of sight in a day back then, but I was freakishly strong.
And it stuck for years after I went off the gear: I was still benching 330 for 3×8 in my mid-30s (I stopped doing squats because my thighs were absolutely, pointlessly ridiculous).
I'm only 230lb now - at 6'1"-and-change, with a 36" waist (4" more than it was when I was 25... which is ludicrous since I am significantly fitter, cardiovascularly, than I was then).
I understand why young men take steroids: they are fucking brilliant (and yes, I was a total arsehole when I was on them - so nothing changed on that front lol).
Interesting background on the author, which helps to explain her “sensible” views on the subject:
Things that are obvious even for a 5-year old child aren’t obvious for ret*rded progressives. Boys and girls are different, especially when it comes to physical abilities. Just like ret*rds in Norway with female special forces “See, they train equally hard. They just have 3 minutes more to run 4 miles cross when man wouldn’t even qualify if he needed 52 minutes.”

Even if male-to-female transgender lowers testosterone level prior to competition he would still have a huge advantage. Because he grew up and developed as a boy, higher testosterone level during puberty etc.
I'm proud of her. She's a tough, speedy little thing, and I get a kick out of it. She's also 100% girl, and I appreciate that side of her too.
She's not too much slower than the boys at this point, but in a few years when she's in her teens they're going to blow her out of the water.
At that point, the last thing I want to see is some tranny prancing around after beating a bunch of girls, including my daughter, and waving a medal. Her school will truly learn the meaning of "deplorable" if that happens.
I deliberately kept my daughter out of men's sports like soccer and basketball to prevent her from getting permanently injured (yes, girls often get debilitating injuries from these sports, much more so than boys). I even had to show her the scars on my legs and face to convince her it wasn't a good idea. I don't know why parents insist on putting their daughters at high risk of ACL tears and such just to gain some parental glory, but it's an unfortunate trend these days.
So here I am, telling her there's plenty of places for safe, healthy athletic competition as a girl, and these people want to take that away from her. Is it wrong and hateful of me to be really angry about that?
My oldest does competitive Irish step dancing: great exercise, almost entirely female, and it connects her to ethnos.
The motivation at the HS level is partly college admissions. For every football scholarship, there has to be one given to a female. For an upper middle class family just barely above the need-based aid level, that could be worth a good $250,000 all in when you consider both the loan, the subsidies, and the saved interest on the loans.
Women’s college athletics are affirmative action for suburban white girls.
Anyway, I'm astonished that the New York Times printed that sentence. I am even more astonished that an academic dared to write that in a major newspaper opinion piece in 2018 and I fully expect that the heavens will come crashing down on her for her hate speech.
She has too many of Steve’s Pokemon Points.

Surely all GoodThinkers know this nonsense about hormones affecting performance was blown out of the water last year by “a real scientist”, Cordelia Fine, in her Royal Society award-winning Testosterone Rex?
I like how the writer drones on and on about testes, ovaries, testosterone, estrogen, musculature, etc. as if it’s a grand think-piece of profound journalism to educate the masses about erudite discoveries, when, of course, it’s all basic shit everyone learned intuitively and concretely by kindergarten and understood all the underlying science from health classes around sixth grade or so.
Yet, as Mr. Sailer remarks, the author is trying to be sensible. It’s a case of the exasperated “I shouldn’t even have to tell you this shit…but, I suppose I must….”
Imagine if a piece about controversial techniques for modern construction and engineering was obliged to rehash the principles underlying levers, wedges, pulleys, and so forth. Sad.
I’d love to compete against women in weight lifting, but too many powerlifting guys have beaten me to the punch.
It seems that in track the middle distances, particularly the 800 meters, is the wheelhouse for trans runners.
Yeah, I don't know why this seems to be the case.

As the inimitable, calipygean-fixated Tinto Brass once put it ‘I thrusted a cock and balls into the face of cinema’.
There is a correlation between Big Man psychological traits and being a big man in shoulders and chest.
How about a rule that if a Mexican guy shoots a hoop, it counts for 5 pts. If a Hindu or Asian makes a hoop, it counts for 6 pts.
Actually, I kind of like this idea. It sounds like an old Chappelle Show skit.

Post-secondary education, barring that for certain specialties requiring the credential or the expensive laboratories, particle-accelerators, and such (medicine, dentistry, petrochemical engineering, etc.) is an enormous waste of time and money. Young people interested in managing businesses; any kind of paid writing or editing; programming software; entertainment or art (i.e., clerical work or waiting tables); and so on are fools to attend a college. They will now actually learn more, even about things like history, Latin, literature, mathematics, etc. – important, respectable, and edifying topics worthy of study! – from the Internet or from libraries than any college or university will teach them, without the costs, attempted brain-washing, persecution, etc. Never mind the other can of worms which is that a collegiate degree now means nothing since they are given out like candy to whoever pays the (usually borrowed under ruinously usurious terms) money and goes through the motions.
Hey, if you love running, skiing, or soccer, great: keep it up; it’s not as though millions of people don’t engage in rewarding athletic activity outside of academia.
To be perfectly blunt about it, the only way out of this mess is to stop validating corrupt institutions.
1) Just ignore competitive sports altogether; that includes professional, collegiate, and high school sports. They are not worth your money, time, or attention.
2) Starve the education beast. Do not send your children to university. If your personal circumstances permit it, take them out of public schools, too.
3) We need to wrest political power out of the hands of the Baby Boomers and their few remaining Silent enablers. We cannot wait another 25 years for the die-off, for then it will be to late. The Boomers have had their day and now all their institutions and attitudes need to be called out in the public forum. The pension and social welfare systems throughout the Western world are completely insolvent and are already bankrupting younger generations. One way or another, this has got to stop.
There is a huge day of reckoning in the pipeline. The liquidation of all the bad debt, all the capital misallocation, and all the failed social experiments of the last 50 years is going to involve the rest of our lives. This is both necessary and inevitable, and it is impermissible for a realist to dream of any other future.
The whole point is that everything has got to change. It is not possible to just fix a few details that would allow the machine to go on functioning as normal. The machine now produces only corrupt outcomes. The ridiculous subject of tranny athletes is a direct product of how our society is now set up to function. We will only get more of this until we pull the plug on the entire thing.
Judit Polgar was a legitimate open competition world class chess player, peaking at #8 in the world in 2005. It will be interesting to see how long it is until the next woman reaches the top 10. I remain agnostic on the male-female gap in chess.
Mozart and Woods rebelled in other ways, infantile as they were, and one of the three Polgars eventually left chess entirely.
Most women I have met in the trades usually get married or get hurt and go out on disability by their mid forties. So they have possibly denied a man the opportunity to earn a good wage and support a family. They also cheated the contractors out of their full investment in the apprenticeship program because they don't get the 35-45 year return on their investment in the training.
Females get hurt more, even in highs school soccer.
Hey, we’ve built our entire military strategy around girrrl power and tranny integration. It worked spectacularly in Afghanistan!
Anyway, I'm astonished that the New York Times printed that sentence. I am even more astonished that an academic dared to write that in a major newspaper opinion piece in 2018 and I fully expect that the heavens will come crashing down on her for her hate speech.
I’ll say it again. Give me an all star team of 6th graders and I’ll beat any WNBA team. Give me 7th graders and it will be a blowout.
I'm proud of her. She's a tough, speedy little thing, and I get a kick out of it. She's also 100% girl, and I appreciate that side of her too.

The 800 is a great race because it’s pure power running and it’s good for runners of a more average build/height instead of freak of nature types. Good luck to your daughter in the future.
Seems like this can lead to false confidence. “Wait stop you rapist and square up to me so I can kick you in the groin!!”.”… That’s not how it works

At least she didn’t note that likely all, or almost all, of the boys that ran a sub 10.49 were black.
My 15 yo son’s team had their way with a pro women’s soccer team that included numerous national team players from several countries.

Please tell me the bottom left is not a girl.
What’s remarkable about the current Top 10 in chess is the dearth of Jews.
The old Russian joke about what an event with two Jews in it is (Chess World Championship match) is now just a vicious antisemitic trope.
I’ve done martial arts in mixed dojos. It’s a joke. Almost any male white belt is no match for most female black belts. In martial arts in which nearly full-contact sparring is allowed this becomes very clear very quickly.
On the plus side, some of the Asian chicks were really easy on the eyes. One did NOT want to hurt them and so was very very careful in sparring. In general, sparring with women is a losing proposition for men for the obvious reasons, unless it’s simply an opportunity for both sides to get up close and personal without admitting it.
A great sport for tall, lanky women is high-jumping. They have to have a high center of gravity and be very light, so they tend to to be long-legged and pleasingly slim. Not surprisingly, many of the top female high-jumpers are real babes.
The chess discussion raises the REAL issue, which is that top cognitive function is **much** higher for men than for women. Most commentators like to say that differences are trivial or that cognitive power is nearly equivalent but it isn’t.
Self made billionaires are almost exclusively men; top scientists, writers, mathematicians, inventors and heck, even comedians, are almost exclusively men. All of these categories are categories of individual achievement, where people have to find success all on their own.
Men’s brains have considerably higher size than women’s brains and this is even true after you take body size into account.
Disclosure: I am a father of 4 daughters, with a fifth daughter on the way, and one son.
That would almost certainly also open up more opportunities for non-black athletes in many sports.
Black athletes don’t dominate very many sports. It’s pretty much basketball, American football at the defensive, WR, and RB positions, and short sprint and long jump events in track. It only seems that way because (American) football, basketball, and sprint events are pushed relentlessly by NBC/ABC/ESPN/CBS/FOX etc.
Ok, there’s the marathon, but these are different kind of blacks, really only a couple of tribes in Kenya and Ethiopia. They win not because they’re explosive and powerful, but because they’re exceptionally light and have adapted to oxygen deficit And their dominance can easily be eliminated by having cold-weather marathons, as the 2018 Boston marathon demonstrated.
Similarly, as has been pointed out here by others, having players play both offense and defense in Am. football, or reducing the number and duration of timeouts in basketball would significantly lessen the dominance of West African athletes in those sports. Many Euroleague (2nd best basketball league in the world after the NBA) teams have done very well with only a couple of blacks on their roster, because European basketball is not explicitly structured to favor West African physiology.
Well there's what you mentioned and the fact that they cheat...a lot.

Greg Cochran had a blog post a few years ago about this.

Cochran links to the Amazon page for this amazing book, which argues that “sex segregation” in sports is not just bad, it’s unconstitutional.
Sex Segregation in Sports: Why Separate Is Not Equal Hardcover – February 12, 2016
by Adrienne N. Milner (Author), Jomills Henry Braddock II (Author)
https://www.amazon.com/Sex-Segregation-Sports-Separate-Equal/dp/1440838100/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1470114522&sr=1-1
Two quotes from this book:
“The topic of sex integration in sports is timely because women are continuing to shatter previously held expectations regarding their athletic ability, and their place in athletics. For instance, female U.S. athletes outperformed their male teammates, even in such traditional male-dominated or masculine-type sports as boxing, judo, shooting, and wrestling in the 2012 London Olympics.”
“Women’s basketball teams averaged 69.5 points per game in the first round of the 2015 NCAA basketball tournament, while men’s teams averaged 67.8…”
And there you have it! Proof that females can compete straight-up in sports against the guys! Quod erat demonstrandum! Of course times in running and swimming competitions are irrelevant. If the girls have to race against the guys, they’ll just go faster!
12 of 13 Amazon reviewers agree, giving the book 5 stars.
Playing With the Boys: Why Separate is Not Equal in Sports

“Now compare to one of the current incredible hulks:”
The same could be written about women’s figure skating. Compare and contrast Kim Yu Na with a Tonya Harding, or today’s version.
The present-day Tonya Harding, aged 47 and bulky, is hardly a relevant point of comparison.

Only physically. They own the verbal world.
But even in some areas, women have the physical advantage. Life span. Survival after disasters and epidemics. Long-term stamina– look at the Iditarod.
But women are mushier, so in this intersectional feat, they eliminated the mush:
https://ladyfreethinker.org/female-dog-free-sled-team-showa-iditarod-abusers-done/
The Polgar sisters are an example of extreme environmental conditioning, as with Mozart and Tiger Woods. In each case, their main hereditary advantage was having an obsessive-but-tolerable father, and the innate patience to tolerate him.
Mozart and Woods rebelled in other ways, infantile as they were, and one of the three Polgars eventually left chess entirely.
With all these men-identifying-as-women, this may lead to the end of the Olympics.
No IOC. No overdoped athletes. No wild spending on silly stadiums (and 'velodromes' and the like).
As I have written here before, the attempt keep performance enhancing drugs out of sports is a doomed enterprise. What after all in a man? He is just a woman who has had testosterone.
If you take an XY or an XX fetus and administer a dose of testosterone at the right time – it will grow a penis. The next dose will effect it’s developing brain and set the creature up to receive more and bigger doses at puberty. Sometimes we’re told the baby isn’t able to respond properly to these shots of T and we get something like Jamie Lee Curtis – the man who looks like a woman. (Actually I’m not sure I believe that in her case.)
But the point is, as soon as it became possible to shoot up with T, anyone could be a man or more of a man. Maybe we should limit body builders to only testosterone – no HGH, insulin or injected oil. When a people get as much control over their bodies as we now have, there is no “natural” only various arbitrary versions of artificial.
For example when the Greeks had the first Olympics these kind of problems didn’t exist.
When runners start to cut off their legs so as to run faster – that will be a sign.
Obviously women are generally weaker (and not as good in math). As Murray Rothbard noted, egalitarianism is a revolt against nature.

No, but it makes you sound whiny and embarrassing. “Wahhh, a tranny beat my daughter in a race! I’m gonna go make a big scene and make myself look ignorant as hell and make my daughter hate me.”
It should be “his take”.
"It should be “his take”."
Given that Williams got pregnant and gave birth, you may wish to reconsider that remark.
In other words, of course I am on the correct side of World War T, except I don’t want it to apply in such a way that would prevent me from succeeding in my chosen occupation (i.e., winning a medal in running).
Serena Williams has been asked on numerous occasions and readily admits she cannot be competitive against top males. Here is just one quote from Serena back in 2013 when asked about playing Andy Murray.
She has other quotes and occasionally she will give a conflicting answer but she’s never came right out and said she could beat any of the touring pro men.
IMO, how this is even up for discussion shows how far we’ve falling into the PC rat hole.
Yet, as Mr. Sailer remarks, the author is trying to be sensible. It's a case of the exasperated "I shouldn't even have to tell you this shit...but, I suppose I must...."

Both authors considered their audiences and made valid points. One would wish that you did the same.
I thought I posted this thought a couple of years ago on iSteve, but I couldn’t find it in the archives.
In 2016, Katie Ledecky, arguably the greatest female swimmer ever, set the world record at the Rio Olympics for women’s 400 m freestyle with a time of 3:56.46.
In those same Olympic games, that time would have placed her 43 among the male swimmers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swimming_at_the_2016_Summer_Olympics_%E2%80%93_Men%27s_400_metre_freestyle

The longer the swim goes the better females do, there may be some physiology to explain that. Once you get to ultra distance, females rule the roost. Classic! Goes well with the right-wing protester vs “Antifa” protester meme….yeah, I can see it….
Bike chains with locks substituting for flails, I take it?

There almost certainly has to be something very unusual going on with Ledecky for her to be that dominant.
“Ok, there’s the marathon, but these are different kind of blacks, really only a couple of tribes in Kenya and Ethiopia. They win not because they’re explosive and powerful, but because they’re exceptionally light and have adapted to oxygen deficit”

Given that Williams got pregnant and gave birth, you may wish to reconsider that remark.

I wonder if all that steroid use won’t mess up her kids in the womb.
She did years ago, however in 1998, her and her sister were blown out by a male player who was notoriously lax about fitness in back to back exhibitions. The guy was primarily a doubles player who smoked and was known for drinking beer between sets and was nearly twice their age at the time.
He beat her 6-1 and the beat Venus 6-2 or something like that. He even said he golfed 18 holes before the matches and didnt even give full effort. He said he could have run down every shot if he wanted to, but it was just for fun. I think that is why she will not play any men.
Described here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karsten_Braasch
Connors and Navratilova had a Battle of the Sexes in Vegas. He was retired, she was near the peak of her powers. They gave her the lanes and I think he only had one serve & he still beat her two sets love. The first set was actually somewhat competitive (maybe he was stiff or maybe she really was that good, dunno - anyway, she had ads as noted), but the second set was a one-sided 6-4, if memory serves. It was much more one-sided than the 6-4 indicated, with Jimmy failing to go after many points in a match that he was winning anyway.
The same could be written about women's figure skating. Compare and contrast Kim Yu Na with a Tonya Harding, or today's version.
Which current female figure skaters would you describe as an “incredible hulk’? The latest Olympic medalists were: Alina Zagitova (G), Evgenia Medvedeva (S), and Kaetlyn Osmond (B). The Worlds medalists were: Kaetlyn Osmond (G), Wakaba Higuchi (S), and Satoko Miyahara(B). Among these only Higuchi is not a sylph.
The present-day Tonya Harding, aged 47 and bulky, is hardly a relevant point of comparison.
Soccer is a lot more brutal than most Americans realize. I played at state championship level in my youth league as a teenager and I’m pretty surprised I don’t have any permanent injuries from the sport. I have a couple visible scars on my legs, including an indentation in one of my shins from having a cleat stuck in my leg, and a permanently thicker medial malleolus on the other leg, also from a cleat. Some of the falls, collisions and elbows I took were really nasty, but nothing ever put me out of the game for longer than the few days it took the swelling to subside. But I can’t imagine a girl taking these hits and walking away from them, and I really don’t want to see my daughter elbowed in the face, stomped on the ankle or slide-tackled. The idea of that is offensive to me.

Yep. Just as a thought experiment, I've tried to imagine a reasonably educated man or woman of 1918 time traveling to 2018. Then, imagine trying to explain the social and political world of today to that person. I'm not sure I could do a good job of "selling" 2018 to 1918. Maybe I'm not "chronocentric" enough.
I think you’re right, but the really interesting thing is that the average person of 1918 has just lived through the horrors of the Great War. Many people of that time had completely lost all confidence in Western values and civilization.
I bet a week of living in 2018 would put some steel back in their spines.
I have no idea what underlies your criticism that I make no valid points nor understand potential readers, so I suppose the criticism applies to you as well.
Or maybe they had their little moment in the sun and are starting to decline, and some of the insanity we see is the result of them realizing this and panicking.

Or nunchakus.
Yes or those too....
Somehow I prefer the spike shields or rapiers, even though they may be harder to come by...
Rubbish. And she shouldn’t have to share a locker room with said tranny.
I think you should apologize to Serena. She has never had a bad test, and she did deliver a child. If she takes PEDs that the IOC can find that USTF can or will not, good for her. The Williams sisters are classy in a way their parents are not.
American athletes never use drugs, ever. They just compete in events where everyone else is using drugs, and beat them all through sheer patriotism.
(Makes note)

A woman was the first to swim the English Channel, IIRC.
I never thought Feminism, Inc. would sit still for bio-men claiming female privilege by declaring their gender flip. Old feminists used to have such low regard for homosexuals, and to the likes of Joan Rivers and Helen Gurly Brown, transsexuals were just some guy that liked Mommy's undies. To actually have them claiming even greater privilege than women without protest from feminists is remarkable, to me anyway, given that they whine about everything else. Title IX losses to trannies would be a big one.
Double crossing: Men, 16:10; women, 17:14
Triple crossing: Men, 28:21; women, 34:40That said, I think the time difference might be smaller (though not going away entirely) if men and women were able to swim that distance (a shade under 21 miles at the narrowest point for a single crossing) under identical conditions. Channel swimmers are often unable to make the most direct crossing possible due to unfavorable currents and tides. For an extreme example, the slowest successful single crossing was made by an American woman who took 28:44 in 2010... but had to swim a total of 65 miles instead of the intended 21 or so.
I watched a little college tennis on TV recently. Serena might be able to compete with some male college players. No way she’d beat them all though. McEnroe was generous saying she would be 700 in the world. And she knows it.
Recently, a “transgender” with a mustache and dreads won a Connecticut hs track meet (girls). Any other high profile incidents like this?
The one thing about girls’ track outfits is that they are very skimpy. As a former high school runner myself that was definitely a perk.
Agencies will find her using drugs? What, is she Russian?
American athletes never use drugs, ever. They just compete in events where everyone else is using drugs, and beat them all through sheer patriotism.
Renee Richards said later on that he didn’t think any biological woman could have beaten him ( “me”) and implied that the matches were not fair.
The only job we need them to do is be mothers. Everything else is suboptimal. As for people not knowing about the massive difference between men and women read Razib’s column of a couple years ago.

IINM the male-female gap in ultramarathons is relatively small.

That was my experience. I spent a few years getting muscular by lifting weights starting when I was about 22, then stopped any kind of serious weight training about two years later. More than ten years after that, I have held onto the large majority of my gains. I’ve been recording the number of curls until exhaustion with the same size dumbbell I can do, and I always worry this will be the year when my sloth would catch up with me and I’d need to start again, but so far it hasn’t happened. So I remain considerably stronger now than when I was 21.
One of the few pleasant surprises of aging!
So I have a similar experience, and I'm still considerably stronger than at age 20 or even 30.

Good takes. I had a brother hit his head following a fall off a skateboard back in 1998. He didn’t make it, but on a visit to see him before he passed on, a neurologist made a point of mentioning, since I had my daughter with me one visit that I should keep her out of soccer because of the header situation. It would seem that a well-kicked ball headed in defense is the equivalent of a middleweight’s punch to the top of the head. It isn’t the BIG hit, it’s the countless little bleeds from heading the ball that gets them. They have thinner skulls and membranes around the brain than the boys, also. Medical Center of Virginia had lots of girls pass through there in studies that showed they have memory issues and later-in-life issues with hand-eye coordination, speech and balance. In short, they get punchy, just like a boxer. Still, those Title IX scholarships, parents can’t resist.
Thanks to the stupid (as in too narrowly applicable) new IAAF ruilng, and my own time in athletics (not without some level of success), I was reading a lot about Semenya about 36 hrs before Steve posted this.
He is XY. The media (and IAAF) are coy on this, but eventually I found confirmation.
He makes contradictory statements (‘I pee like a girl’ but also, not a direct quote, but accurate paraphrase, I was always like this, playing with the boys, as a boy).
Off the track, except on the cover page of the Sth. Af. mag. You, where he does drag, he lives as a man. He married as a man.
No womb or ovaries, makes me wonder, any vulva or vagina?
I don’t even believe the ‘intersex’ fairy tale. Major hormone imbalance in the womb, micropenis, sure, that is believable.
Birth cert. says ‘girl’, but I am quite sure he had ample consciousness that he was not well before embarking on his career as a ‘female’ athlete.
After the reading, I have to conclude that he is a conscious cheat, albeit likely lying to himself about it.
Steve, you’re the Golfer in these parts, what’s the take on transsexual golfers attempting to scoop Title IX golf scholarships? It’s quiet so far, but once a boy has attained the muscle-mass and bone density of a man, then swaps gender identification conveniently around college-age, doesn’t women’s golf fall victim to “women” with the club head speed of men? Distance out of the tee box is all in golf at that level. Duke or North Carolina has a quiet little hassle going on about that very subject I read somewhere.

Male golfers tend to be boringly cishet. A number of years ago I went through a Golf Digest list of the handicaps of 100 entertainment industry golfers. The only certain gay male on the list was singer Johnny Mathis, who is a fine athlete and good golfer.
A fellow who worked at a golf course in the city of Palm Springs (which is very gay) said they had about 30 regular gay men who golfed there. But Palm Springs (itself rather than the general area) might be, say, 50% gay male. So this pair of courses right near downtown Palm Springs is probably the gay male golfer center of America.
We must secure a future for White boys and their thotbots.

I agree, AC.
Of course it isn’t. You brandish your knife at him, and while he’s preparing to parry that, THEN you kick him in the ‘nads.
Just looked up info on English Channel swimmers. The first five to complete the crossing (from 1875 to 1923) were all men. The first woman to cross was Gertrude Ederle in 1926, though she did beat the time of all previous men.
According to the most recent information available (after the 2017 Channel swimming season), about 63% of the successful swimmers have been men.
There are records for fastest single, double, and even triple crossings (though it looks like only two men and two women have successfully completed a triple crossing).
Single crossing: Men, 6:55; women, 7:25
Double crossing: Men, 16:10; women, 17:14
Triple crossing: Men, 28:21; women, 34:40

I’ll second everything you just said.
I did 4 6-week cycles in my early 20s: one of Dianabol [pills]; one of deca-durabolin; one of deca and Winstrol, and one of stanazol.
During that time I got to ~265lb reasonably-lean – benching 330lb for sets of 8, and squatting 450lb for reps. I couldn’t run out of sight in a day back then, but I was freakishly strong.
And it stuck for years after I went off the gear: I was still benching 330 for 3×8 in my mid-30s (I stopped doing squats because my thighs were absolutely, pointlessly ridiculous).
I’m only 230lb now – at 6’1″-and-change, with a 36″ waist (4″ more than it was when I was 25… which is ludicrous since I am significantly fitter, cardiovascularly, than I was then).
I understand why young men take steroids: they are fucking brilliant (and yes, I was a total arsehole when I was on them – so nothing changed on that front lol).
I always thought that honor belonged to Capt. Matthew Webb – or so my ‘Boy’s Own’ Annual told me.
Suitably Victorian and manly.
With all these men-identifying-as-women, this may lead to the end of the Olympics.
No IOC. No overdoped athletes. No wild spending on silly stadiums (and 'velodromes' and the like).
Even Paralympics athletes cheat! It’s time we put an end to this phony Olympics revival that’s been going on since Coubertain. We can’t bring back the original Olympics, so we end up with a travesty of athleticism.

Then, imagine trying to explain the social and political world of today to that person. I'm not sure I could do a good job of "selling" 2018 to 1918. Maybe I'm not "chronocentric" enough.
Well yeah, I for one, ain’t buyin’ it.
One of the few pleasant surprises of aging!
I started doing weight training later, but I often spend time injured. (I should’ve worked out at a younger age…) Interestingly, though, after injury most of my gains stay there, as if I never lost them. I usually start from a somewhat lower basis than the previous peak, but not very much lower.
So I have a similar experience, and I’m still considerably stronger than at age 20 or even 30.
Serena I think already challenged the guys, and some #3 took her up on it and she lost miserably.
Leave the historical ignorance to morons like Dan Brown.
The Christians were doing the DDYING in the streets and the arenas, the pagans were doing the fighting.
Took awhile for the pagans to lose their pagan ways, though, even after conversion. Like gladiator bouts continued, though less so, sporadically, until that one monk Telemachus ran into the arena and cried out, “In the name of Jesus Christ, STOP!” That crowd cried for blood, the emperor said okay thumbs down, the fighter killed him,. The crowd sunk got silent and skunked out of the arena. That changed the conversation on it.
Just like today. It is the US-financed US-backed pagans (aka “radical Muslims”) in Syria and Iraq and Libya who are doing the beheadings and carving crosses into their dead Christian victim’s chest –when they’re not tearing their hearts out. And eating them like that one monster
And that pales in the face of what the Communist pagan monsters did in the 20th centiliry.
I think the slacker tennis dude also had adult beverages before he played tennis that day — may have to check this. He sounds like a real character
I bet a week of living in 2018 would put some steel back in their spines.
Mr. B., thanks. I’ve tried to wrap my head around the idea of “selling” 2018 to 1918 without much success. I suppose 1918 would be dazzled by 2018′s material goodies: air conditioning, cell phones, big airplanes. Might take a little longer than a week, I suppose, for it to sink in that there’s something very wobbly about 2018.
Here are a few questions or comments from 1918 that might make me squirm a bit. “What is Vietnam?” “WWII? You mean there was another one?” “Why don’t people go to church?” “Why do people dress so scandalously?” “Why can’t I walk to a restaurant, or a theater, or a grocery store?” “Why aren’t there more family get-togethers, family dinners, sing-alongs around a piano?” “Why can’t we invite the neighbors for dinner?” “Why do you lock the front door?”
By the way, I agree with what I think you’re saying about the Great War and its 1939-1945 sequel. Western folks, Euros and Americans, are still discombobulated by it.
Actually, it was a guy ranked #203:

I especially like that Broasch was drinking light beer and smoking a couple of cigs.!
Must find vid.
Thank you.
It was Karsten Braasch, who was a hoot.
The first set was actually somewhat competitive (maybe he was stiff or maybe she really was that good, dunno – anyway, she had ads as noted), but the second set was a one-sided 6-4, if memory serves. It was much more one-sided than the 6-4 indicated, with Jimmy failing to go after many points in a match that he was winning anyway.

Interesting:
“Both sisters are great tennis players and hit the ball extremely well. However, if you’ve been playing on the men’s tour there are certain shots you can play that are going to put them in difficulty. Try and put a lot spin on the ball – I was hitting the ball with a degree of spin they don’t face week-in, week-out. Another key is to chase down every shot. In our match, they were putting shots into the corners that on the women’s tour would be winners but I was able to return them.”
Neither gal had a chance against this guy, but I always thought that Venus and Serena (esp. Serena) won because they were facing opponents who basically folded under the pressure. Serena is a big woman, with big breasts and big thighs, and whenever a woman opponent had the guts to move her around, guess what, the big lady got tired and lost.
I’ve read many many times that men put much more spin on the ball than women. Why is this? Because their wrists are stronger? Is it the whole arm/shoulder apparatus? Is putting spin on a tennis ball anything like throwing a baseball?
Thanks, Steve.
Funny.
Today, I was wondering if the new-born Caster may have had surgical intervention, but don’t think so.
I LOL at the plentiful articles describing Caster (real first name difficult to remenber) as a lesbian and the marriage as a gay wedding.
Only recently worked out what the moronic western left means by ‘intersectionality’, Semenya is sure a champ by those standards.
He is also a problem to their illogic.
I read today that Bruce Jenner is planning to marry a much younger man, who is also, it seems, a lesbian.
Which also makes that a same-sex wedding!?!
Well, unlike in Semenya’s case, at least in Jenner’s, it *really* will be same-sex.
This rubbish is so twisted, people must be seeing it at some time, it is well into emperor’s new clothes land now.
I had a dream when asleep after posting, that all of the women in an 800 m international, just walked off the track in protest at Semenya being there.
Very entertaining quotes. I never heard of it before.

Sounds like she developed some common sense, albeit in a horrible way. Parents used to warn their girls about not taking unnecessary risks!
They were very conservative, English and Welsh Lutherans. I actually didn't know there WERE English or Welsh Lutherans, but that's what they were.
If you get a chance you would enjoy her autobiography. A decent read.
I still remember his suitably ‘heroic’ picture – a big beefy chap sporting a luxuriant moustache, dressed in a ‘full’ bathing costume, with his arms folded.
Suitably Victorian and manly.

While we are agreed that Dan Brown is an opportunistic liar, unfortunately Bush and Obama both claim to be Christians and both had plenty of blood on their hands in the Mideast, while O is even a more rabid pro abortionist than Hillary, another believer.
Suffice it to say, that like slavery in its day, plenty of Christians are pro war these days, but not as many or as rabid as the pagans/unbelievers – or so one would hope. And the West, influenced by Christianity outlawed slavery, while it continues elsewhere. I don’t know that the Africans, Arabs or Asians have ever entirely stopped. (Didn’t Malcolm X get played, visiting Saudi Arabia in ’64 one year after slavery was abolished there, but praising Islam for its lack of racism?)
Who would want to watch Alison Felix run when they could watch Caster Semenya?
Her parents did and she ignored them.
