Jean Raspail’s 1973 dystopian novel The Camp of the Saints is being played out piecemeal in the Mediterranean this year with enormous numbers of African and Middle Easterners trying to make it to the wealthy north side of the sea.

A new paper in Science fiddles with UN population forecasts to make them more statistically sophisticated and, holy cow, there are a lot of babies in Africa:

World population stabilization unlikely this century

Patrick Gerland et al.
Science, forthcoming

Abstract:
The United Nations recently released population projections based on data until 2012 and a Bayesian probabilistic methodology. Analysis of these data reveals that, contrary to previous literature, world population is unlikely to stop growing this century. There is an 80% probability that world population, now 7.2 billion, will increase to between 9.6 and 12.3 billion in 2100. This uncertainty is much smaller than the range from the traditional UN high and low variants. Much of the increase is expected to happen in Africa, in part due to higher fertility and a recent slowdown in the pace of fertility decline. Also, the ratio of working age people to older people is likely to decline substantially in all countries, even those that currently have young populations.

From Science Daily:

Most of the anticipated growth is in Africa, where population is projected to quadruple from around 1 billion today to 4 billion by the end of the century. The main reason is that birth rates in sub-Saharan Africa have not been going down as fast as had been expected. There is an 80 percent chance that the population in Africa at the end of the century will be between 3.5 billion and 5.1 billion people.

Other regions of the world are projected to see less change. Asia, now 4.4 billion, is projected to peak at around 5 billion people in 2050 and then begin to decline. Populations in North America, Europe, and Latin America and the Caribbean are projected to stay below 1 billion each.

Above I’ve used Google to plot Total Fertility Rates (projected babies per woman per lifetime) for the three most populous countries in Africa. The TFR in Ethiopia has been falling, but is still well above 4. In Nigeria and Congo, its at six.

The concept of Demographic Momentum needs to be understood. Say that tomorrow, the TFR in Nigeria and Congo instantly dropped from 6 to the replacement level of 2. Would the population stabilize immediately? Not for many decades. You see, the women who are having six children today would still wind up having 12 grandchildren, whereas in a country where the TFR has been stable at 2 for a generation, mothers can expect to have four grandchildren eventually.

But in both Nigeria and Congo, there really hasn’t been a trend toward substantially lower TFRs over even the last half century.

Environmental reporter Andrew Revkin writes in the New York Times:

The United Nations and the streets of Manhattan are going into global warming saturation mode, from Sunday’s People’s Climate March through the Tuesday climate change summit convened by Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and on through an annual green-energy event called Climate Week.

Largely missed in much of this, as always seems the case with climate change discussions, is the role of population growth in contributing both to rising emissions of greenhouse gases and rising vulnerability to climate hazards in poor places with high fertility rates (think sub-Saharan Africa). …

But family planning, for instance, should absolutely be seen as a climate resilience strategy in poor regions. This is how I put it in 2010:

Africa’s population is projected to double — from one to two billion — by 2050. That means exposure to [deep, implicit] climate hazards will greatly increase in many places even if climate patterns don’t change at all. So family planning, and sanitation and water management, sure sound like vital parts of any push for climate progress.

I’d be happy to shift my view if someone can explain a flaw in my logic.

The flaw in Revkin’s logic is that logic is racist.

This has to be the dumbest comment I've read on iSteve in awhile. Truly this clown must think the singularity is near.

First, technology adds costs to society as a whole via increased complexity, and there is a limit at which further complexity can no longer provide any savings--at that point its net goes negative and you get a collapse unless you somehow reach stasis, which is out of the question in this case.

Second, it's a dysgenic population move, so even if you didn't need to add complexity to deal with more people (and you will), your population won't be able to support complexity at the current level. Then you actually lose technical knowledge, a scenario I gather nerds find impossible to contemplate but which has in fact transpired multiple times throughout human history.

Third, Earth's resources are finite. "Technology" is not magic and cannot produce food and fuel from nothing. But if you're ignorant of all the actual engineering problems you can still toss out glib statements like, "Technology is moving at such a rapid pace that a larger population can be accommodated."

Fourth, the ecosystem we rely on will probably be destroyed by a planet of nine billion people. The amount of water alone needed to sustain this population level is going to be a massive problem that you can't "technology" your way out of.

Fifth, a pandemic, if it comes, hopefully kills you and your family.

Technology has not produced a single acre of farmland, which is rapidly eroding world wide, or fresh water, except for the energy intensive and environmentally destructive reverse osmosis desalinization process. Hence starvation...hence Camp of the Saints....hence war.

It matters if you're a European and your country is only a boat trip and a coach journey away from North Africa. Can you imagine the effort required to hold the line against a potential inflow of tens of millions of migrants a year - even assuming that European nations will eventually find the sense to co-operate on this?

This is deus ex machina wishful thinking. Having a labor force of cheap, desperate coolies actually retards innovation. You can watch the film Koyaanisqatsi for a scene where a gang of Third Worlders wielding mattocks are hacking away at the dirt and juxtapose that with the mental image of one pudgy suburban dad renting a Roto-Tiller and putting in a vegetable garden over a weekend.
    , @AnAnon
Population growth is geometric, whilst agricultural growth is arithmetic. that is the problem. The green revolution is petered out, and the resources it depended upon will not be as available a century hence as they are today.
  2. There’s a huge problem with assuming that African TFR and population explosion can continue through the rest of this century. The problem relates to the reason why it is happening: International (mostly white) charity and do-gooder-ism. Eventually, white societies, largely due to their own internal domestic non-white undertows, much of which is being imported, won’t be able to afford the international welfare state, and perhaps at some point environmentalists will quit being scared of racism accusations and start getting serious about third world non white population control.

Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that the worry about black Africa and population wasn’t explosion, but extinction.

Foreign aid and charity is a very small part of the Sub-Saharan economy outside of a few disaster areas like South Sudan. And a lot of it gets eaten up by salaries for Westerners running the aid, and the high cost of transporting aid to remote needy areas.

A large part of Africa gets its clothing for free though. Goodwill and the rest can only sell a small part of the clothes people donate domestically, and instead ships it mostly to Africa.

Our big support for Africa comes from buying its natural resources, mostly on fairly exploitative terms.
    , @WhatEvvs
"Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that the worry about black Africa and population wasn’t explosion, but extinction."

When was that? I don't remember that at all. What is your source for this?

"The problem relates to the reason why it is happening: International (mostly white) charity and do-gooder-ism"

Correct. Black populations grow because they are subsidized by whites. The slave population in the US was subsidized. A woman who could have a baby a year was a sought-after commodity. But I do not remember anyone ever worrying about Africa becoming extinct.
  3. Back in the sixties early environmentalists worked hard to get us worried about the “population explosion”. We couldn’t get too alarmed, though, since what we visualized was Indians and Africans getting crowded in their own countries…oh well their problem… The idea that we’d make it *our* problem by allowing the hordes to overrun the First World would have been utterly preposterous.

  4. Your graph shows a problem in simply reversing high fertility rates. What will happen to Iran, and to a lesser extent Ethiopia, when they get filled up with old people-and very few young people to look after them?

At least Germany has an infrastructure for dealing with old people. Both Ethiopia and Iran, to the extent they had old people, left one of the many children to look after the aged. Not possible in the future.

Fortunately when Muhammed ibn Al-Hasan leaves the occultation where he has been residing for the last 12 centuries that problem will be solved.

    • Replies: @Anonymous
That's not really a problem. They're old people near the end of life. They die off naturally.
    , @george
"get filled up with old people-and very few young people to look after them?"

If they don't let old age benefits get out of control as they did in the west the needs of old Iranians can be met. Old people are actually inexpensive, and if you let them productive. Now if old Iranians think they are entitled to spend a month on a cruise ship every year, that might be a problem. But I suspect that in the west as salaries are ground down, the elderly will retire with less income and mostly spend it locally. So the elderly of Iran should do just fine. Maybe that is what upsets the neo cons so much, Iran is doing just fine. Looking at the graph it does not appear that Iran is America's foreign policy problem.

Looking at the graphs and speculating about future prison populations what I wonder is who will man the prisons? Being a bigot I am not speculating about who will be inside the cages as I think I know. Robot guards controlled by the elderly from their smartphones?

  10. Call it fear of a black planet by 2100.

  11. TFR may be 6 in much of Africa, but what’s the replacement rate? It’s probably noticeably higher than 2.1 now, and likely to get higher as population pressure increases conflict.

  12. The TFR chart is great!

Sub-Saharan Africa is a useful way to group countries. It would be even better if we (1) include Sudan, which with the loss of South Sudan, is almost entirely within the Sahara (2) include Yemen, which is more like East Africa than the rest of the Arab world, even its neighbors Saudi Arabia and Oman.

  15. This reminds me of that asinine post Noah Millman made a couple years ago: http://www.theamericanconservative.com/millman/out-of-africa/

Basically, African population would explode and the world wouldn’t be callous enough to let them all die, so we’d absorb them all into our societies. At your prompting, he allowed that maybe China would get tough with them.

    • Replies: @WhatEvvs
Thanks for the link; read it.

No, we won't absorb 1 billion people into the West. Not. Going. To. Happen. Governments will fall, revolutions will occur before nice, tidy, Europe allows a billion Africans to swamp its shores. It may not seem so now but things can change very quickly.

As far as Millman's contention that the rest of the world wouldn't sit by if catastrophic diseases occur in Africa, I note no particular outrage at the Ebola crisis, which I think is far worse than has been reported.
  16. The last decade has been nearly the best in Africa’s post-colonial history by most measures. Living standards have gone up faster there than anywhere except China. This is caused by a boom in Africa’s biggest industry: resource extraction, and secondarily another boom in certain agricultural exports like chocolate, rubber, and coffee.

I think this explains the flat fertility rates. The secular trend is down, but the widespread and rather sudden improvements in living standards is temporarily working against the long-term trend. (Has resource-rich Australia also see a flat rather than declining birthrate?)

I doubt this will last though. Pessimism is usually the safe bet with Africa, and a Malthusian nightmare of Africa nearing 1.5 or 2 billion will cause an increase in death rates and a below 2 TFR such that 4 billion will never happen.

At some point the demographic decline of the West and Orient will result in less economic aid, less progress with tropical diseases, and finally less demand for Africa’s increasingly depleted natural resources.

  17. If something can’t go on, it won’t.

  18. That which cannot go on forever will not. Trends don’t continue indefinitely and I would not be surprised if something goes kaboing before Africa gets to 5 billion. Sadly it will be too late for the suicidal West by the time that happens. Well sic transit gloria mundi all that.

A lot of the defections began after Erlich lost his much publicized bet on commodities prices. Erlich was the chief evangelist and it was very embarrassing for him to lose. Then there was also political correctness congealing into an orthodoxy but that didn't really happen until the late nineties. For most of the 70s and 80s liberalism preached both overpopulation and open borders. Admittedly, at that time it wasn't as clear that emigration increaed fertility for Central Americans.
    , @Joe Walker
The fear of overpopulation was used by the left as a way to discourage white gentile reproduction. It was never meant to discourage non-whites from reproducing. This is why you never hear leftwing environmentalists complaining about Mexican illegal immigrants in the United States.
  25. Anonymous • Disclaimer says:

As I’ve said many times before, we ceased to hear dire warnings from the UN etc about ‘world overpopulation’ sometime in the mid to early 1970s, which not uncoincindentally was the time white people, globally, stopped reproducing themselves. Thus any ‘overpopulation’ problem that might or might not exist exclusively involved the almighty gods of PC, the duskier races of mankind, and as we all know, the name of the almighty must never by never be taken in vain by the devotees of the PC cult.
Saying all that, what really is evident is that we are right at the very beginning of Raspail’s prophetic, apocalyptic scenario. What we at seeing now are merely the first opening salvoes, the preliminaries. The so-called ‘migrants’ as PC media insistently, but erroneously, call them have only in the last few years learned the trick that forcibly trespassing your way in, like an invader, with a boat, bears rich dividends as a strategy – not only is absolutely no effort whatsoever is made in even trying to deter and restrain you, you are, in , fact, given a welcoming committee and a safe passage to your coveted prize! Now, you don’t need to be too much of an Einstein to see where this is headed.
A further point that Europe, and in no small measure thanks to the shit-headed anti-human and anti-economism policies of EU elitists – is in a state of irreversible, permanent and massive demographic decline. As chance might have it this more or less exactly corresponds with massive, unsustainable and rapid demographic increase in black Africa. In a world run by intelligent leaders, such as Japan is able to produce, there isn’t necessarily any link or connection between the two phenomena, but, alas, and this is the really crucial and important point in the whole affair – far, far more important than the unrestrained lust of black Africans – is the fact that the EU is run by Economist reading shitheads.
From that fact and that fact alone, rest assured that the entirety of western Europe will be Nigeria, north Atlantic subsidiary, by 2100.

  26. Camp of the Saints is from 1973.

  27. The report is a first step toward admitting the truth, but still an understatement of “the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan’s advantage ” proportions.

But of course, teknologee will change everything. There’s a new iphone, did you know you can charge it in your microwave?

  28. Lot’s of babies, but what’s the infant mortality/death rate? Is that figured in?

  29. All I have to say about this is that good times for humanity are over. Nothing can withstand subsaharan African fertility, expansion, power, violence. Forget Islam, forget India, forget China, forget Europe. Forget music, literature, science. The future will everywhere look like Detroit at best and Congo at worst.

When subsaharan Africans are separated from non-subsaharan Africans they do worse. But the very moment the populations get in contact, Africans win. They (the men, not the women, but it is all about the men) win in interracial dating, in violent clashes, in having many children, they take everything and leave nothing.
Because what makes them weak in in separated world, such as the time before the year 1500 is their violence, the lack of cooperation. And exactly this makes them strong in a non-separated world, thus in our globalized world.

Antiracists (which is to say 99% of at least all westerners) do not pity Africans, they adore them for their strength. Antiracists have the feeling that the world should be owned by Africans, and everything which is weak – so basically everything non-subsaharan African – should die out.

  30. If didn´t know the TFR data for Ethiopia for the last years before seeing the graph above. But if you would have asked me before seeing the graph which country in subsaharan Africa could have experienced a decreasing TFR in the last years my guess would have been Ethiopia.

That and it would be really hard to chant about racism as you’re deporting NAM’s in mass. Pricing them out, along with lower class whites, is easy to ignore. Mass deportations are not.

On the other hand, lunatics like Mark Zuckerberg have turned gutting the middle-class into a religion. They really think they can turn places like San Francisco into Elysium. Or, maybe they have just not thought it through and open borders is a suicide cult.

  40. What does it matter? Technology is moving at such a rapid pace that a larger population can be accommodated.

    It matters because:

    It lowers global IQ mean.
It dramatically increases the share of world population that is incapable of advanced civilization.
Blacks are the white man’s burden.
It’s setting the stage for a mass die-off (see white man’s burden, above) given disruptions to the economy, war, disease, starvation, etc.
Increased population density = increased social friction. Wars, especially.
All the stuff Steve already mentioned or quoted, that you ignored.

    What are you, stupid?

There’s a huge problem with assuming that African TFR and population explosion can continue through the rest of this century. The problem relates to the reason why it is happening: International (mostly white) charity and do-gooder-ism.

Yes, Earth has a carrying capacity, and the closer we get to it, the more problems we create. And given the west’s current destructive trajectory…

  41. You’re cherry-picking. The rates for all of Tropical and Southern Africa have declined by 25% since 1976 and most of the continent has seen improving metrics on nutrition over the last 20-odd years (and some of the remainder have seen a great deal of political disorder disrupting production). Keep in mind as well that 12% of the young in Nigeria and the Belgian Congo have died by their 5th birthday (as compared with < 1% in an ordinary occidental country) and roughly a quarter by their 15th birthday.

  42. Anonymous • Disclaimer says:

Sometime in the last couple years I read a post regarding land utilization, quoting some UN agency. The stats said that Africa only uses 27% of its arable land for farming. China, on the other hand, uses something like 95%.

There is plenty of land to feed billions more Africans and plenty of minerals and energy. What they lack (and what they will always lack) is the human capital to develop it and maintain it.

  43. One has only to look at the debt levels of European governments ( other than the small Scandinavian countries) and their youth unemployment rates to realize they have no capacity left to absorb large numbers of African migrants. In North America the black population is being made economically redundant by the influx of Latinos and government here is also debt constrained to the point that this last bastion of black middle class employment is going to collapse under the twin pressures of having to make way for proportional employment of Latinos and fiscal pressures in black run cities.

Like Las Vegas, what happens in Africa is going to have to stay in Africa, as the world has no capacity left to absorb low quality people.

Yes, I've been kicking myself for ten years. In 1983, at 20 y/o, I was studying Computer Science at a Boston-are college. As a back-up plan, I took my suburban Boston firefighter exam and scored very well. Shortly thereafter, the mayor of that city called me down to City Hall to offer me a firefighter job. He told me it paid $8 per hour. He subtly persuaded me to skip the firefighter job and finish college. So, I did. Now, over thirty years and two masters degrees later, I'm still working, where those high school grads that took the test with me and were smart enough to accept the job have retired in their early-to-mid 40s and have been retired for almost ten years living on $50K to $60K per year government pensions.

Cops and other first responders won't be immune to the workplace dynamics faced by virtually all of their fellow citizens, legal or otherwise.
Their relatively short careers and early retirement will eventually be a thing of the past, as stressed cities push for higher retirement ages to meet budgets. The cities will win those budget battles, and cops will work to 55-60, and won't have as much pension spiking to buy new boats, etc.

Of course, with more immigration there will be a need (A Demand!) for more officers to protect the populace.

    >>What will happen to Iran, and to a lesser extent Ethiopia, when they get filled up with old people-and very few young people to look after them?

Well, they will manage somehow, and they have no option other than to manage it, and then the old will die off, and that is not a bad thing. Old people dying off is really not a problem. It is not something we should be concerned about.

    (managing old people)

    What you said.

I put this in the category with “crops rotting in the field”. Old people can take care of themselves, and each other, for the most part.

We know which demographics we need to increase the proportions of, and which demographics we need to reduce the proportions of, to make the world’s average IQ increase.

For some reason most transhumanists don’t seem too receptive to this insight, even though the proportions trends have headed in the dumber direction.

  47. Thanks for the tip on the “Roosevelts”, though I am finding I am too busy to watch TV these days.

I really can’t imagine why anyone would want to have six children, and I’ve noticed that the Americans (mostly whites, btw) who I’ve met who have done this have tended to reside on the left side of the bell curve. Yeah, I know Mitt Romney is an exception but I doubt he is representative of anything.

Also, I agree with the above commentator that taking care of lots of old people really isn’t a big problem, and people who keep raising this issue probably have another agenda. You take care of them, and then they die. You are left with a smaller population. Its a big one-and-done expense, which are always better than a chronic and never ending stream of mid-sized payments. Having a population mal-distributed among age categories never works out well in any case, but if this is going to happen, its always much better to have too many old people relative to the overall population than too many young people.

There's a huge problem with assuming that African TFR and population explosion can continue through the rest of this century. The problem relates to the reason why it is happening: International (mostly white) charity and do-gooder-ism. Eventually, white societies, largely due to their own internal domestic non-white undertows, much of which is being imported, won't be able to afford the international welfare state, and perhaps at some point environmentalists will quit being scared of racism accusations and start getting serious about third world non white population control.

Remember, it wasn't that long ago that the worry about black Africa and population wasn't explosion, but extinction.

“Remember, it wasn’t that long ago that the worry about black Africa and population wasn’t explosion, but extinction.”

When was that? I don’t remember that at all. What is your source for this?

“The problem relates to the reason why it is happening: International (mostly white) charity and do-gooder-ism”

Correct. Black populations grow because they are subsidized by whites. The slave population in the US was subsidized. A woman who could have a baby a year was a sought-after commodity. But I do not remember anyone ever worrying about Africa becoming extinct.

Basically, African population would explode and the world wouldn't be callous enough to let them all die, so we'd absorb them all into our societies. At your prompting, he allowed that maybe China would get tough with them.

Thanks for the link; read it.

No, we won’t absorb 1 billion people into the West. Not. Going. To. Happen. Governments will fall, revolutions will occur before nice, tidy, Europe allows a billion Africans to swamp its shores. It may not seem so now but things can change very quickly.

As far as Millman’s contention that the rest of the world wouldn’t sit by if catastrophic diseases occur in Africa, I note no particular outrage at the Ebola crisis, which I think is far worse than has been reported.

I don’t know what the song and dance about the african population “explosion” is. if africa had not suffered a whole millenium of slavery (trans atlantic and indian ocean) the population of sub saharan africa would already be far higher than the “doomsday” predictions here. Population growth in Africa would be the best thing to happen to the continent. As we “run out of space” there will be less and less tolerance for the thieving western multinationals and meddling western diplomats. We would be forced to seize back what is ours on the continent and prevent (by sheer necessity) any future thieving by rich nations. African leaders would also “learn” to “behave” if the western world (white) left us alone, for once. A large population is good for Africa because it will help the continent recover from the trauma of the past, and would limit the spaces for the interference of western nations. That done, I don’t see why African can’t develop. We have been told over and over again that we are not intelligent enough. I bet if europe had gone through slavery, colonisation and neo colonisation, its population today would similarly be deemed “less intelligent” simply because they would have been denied a thousand years of opportunity for development.

Presently white behavior is adapted to states with reasonably good criminal justice systems + escape routes. That means backing down from conflict, moving to the suburbs, etc. Whites want to stay on the good side of the system because, despite all its flaws, the system is reasonably fair.

What happens when the system collapses, and is anything but fair? What happens when whites are FORCED to live in violent cities with collapsing governments, like Detroit? What happens when crime is rampant, and the criminal justice system, from beat cops to courts, cannot be trusted? What happens when risking a criminal conviction by standing up for yourself or your family is the least worst option?

That’s the part where whites start carrying guns and start organizing for their self-defense. That time’s not here yet. It may never arrive. But if it does arrive, would you really wager against whites placed in such a situation being more poorly organized than blacks or Muslims? Would you wager against whites doing whatever it takes to restore order and civility, up to and including mass deportation and/or secession?

Demographics suggests that Western civilization is headed for some dark times. History and a little introspection suggests whites will survive it however we have to.

If you consider that a relevant citation, you are implicitly assuming that those engineers and programmers are going to stay employed, which tends to be increasingly unlikely in the era of cheaper, more replacable H1B workers. Not everyone gets to move up and out into management positions, and those that do only reinforce the argument that being an engineer is not the career plan it once was.

annual wages for cops varies tremendously by city and, of course, rank. Many cops in many cities can literally double their base pay w/ "overtime" and "special duty."

For example, in my mid-size FL city, new police officer recruits start at $37K (generally, these are 22 to 24 year old, high school grads, some are former military; generally, none are college grads). Generally, they all earn OT and special duty of from $20K to $60K per year. Sargents & Lieutenants earn base pay of $60K (again, plus $20K to $60K OT). The pension benefit is the real super benefit - 75% of salary after 25 years of service!

Extant immigrant populations amount to about 9% of the population, so its a reasonable extrapolation to say that immigrants from Tropical Africa are about 1.3% of France’s population.

So, I did. Now, over thirty years and two masters degrees later, I’m still working, where those high school grads that took the test with me and were smart enough to accept the job have retired in their early-to-mid 40s and have been retired for almost ten years living on $50K to $60K per year government pensions.

Gov’t pensions will eventually suck gov’ts throughout the country dry. It’s already happening in some cities. Read about a couple in CA some time back (Modesto, maybe?). The gov’t pension issue is a ticking economic time bomb. Cold consolation, but eventually a bunch of gov’t employees are going to be left standing when the music stops, and that will be the end of the gravy train.

"Show us the math for this. Keeping in mind that the blacks lucky enough to wind up in America turned into a population of 40 million or so today (from a founding population of, what? Some other important numbers demographicswise were that about a quarter of the slaves died post the civil war(1M out of 4M), and that the black population was around 18M in 1960 before the welfare state really got started.

"If africa had not suffered a whole millenium of slavery (trans atlantic and indian ocean) the population of sub saharan africa would already be far higher than the “doomsday” predictions here."

Not necessarily. The slave trade ended while Africa was still caught in a Malthusian trap. Thus it would have entered its modern era with roughly the same starting population, and would have roughly the same population today. It might even have less: perhaps without the guilt of the slave trade we'd be more indifferent to African suffering, and less inclined to do the things which have raised its population.

And of course Africa "inflicted" the slave trade on itself. Every African kingdom of historical note, going back to at least AD 300, was engaged in the capture and trade of slaves.

83. Bill Gates has invested tons of money into Africa for vaccinations and reducing child mortality and he has been clear that this should _reduce_ the overall fertility rate in Africa. Remember when liberals used to care about overpopulation. I wonder what was the exact year in world history when liberals no longer gave a damn about overpopulation. Was it after the 1965 immigration act ?

A lot of the defections began after Erlich lost his much publicized bet on commodities prices. Erlich was the chief evangelist and it was very embarrassing for him to lose. Then there was also political correctness congealing into an orthodoxy but that didn’t really happen until the late nineties. For most of the 70s and 80s liberalism preached both overpopulation and open borders. Admittedly, at that time it wasn’t as clear that emigration increaed fertility for Central Americans.

This argument precedes Bill Gates. It’s not so much about enabling Western-style growth as it is reassuring mothers that their children will survive to adulthood, and so have children to care for them into old age. If child mortality is lower, women may be more likely to curb their reproduction. It sounds like a reasonable hypothesis. I don’t know whether it has any data to back it up, however.

  87. But not everyone – not even every young man – is suited physically or psychologically to be a cop or firefighter. And while the job market for law enforcement may be a perpetual growth area, I thought the need for firefighters was declining as fires become fewer because of improved construction and safety techniques. There’s a basic minimum number we can’t go below because fires are always going to happen, but it is reasonable to expect the number of FF jobs to grow?

There is also the matter of social class. LE and FF are not middle-class jobs, except at the high end of LE (they can’t all be FBI agents), and some people – especially parents – really care about that.

There is job satisfaction to consider. During your working years, you spend 1/3 or more of your time at work. Happiness, or at least lack of unhappiness, in your work is one of the key factors to happiness in life. If you have real aptitude for and enjoyment of engineering and no real interest in blue-collar service jobs, aren’t you better off as an engineer, even if you earn the same or less?

Finally, isn’t it true that the infiltration of H1B visa holders varies according to engineering field? What about civil and mechanical engineering? I work for a big university with a massive physical plant. I’ve worked with the guys in Facilities for years. Most of the managers, including project managers, are engineers by training. Nearly all are white males; the few who aren’t are mostly white females. This is still true even among the younger staff.

White males in STEM are doomed. White parents who push their kids into STEM might as well be pushing them into landscaping and roofing. Parents must think third world. Push them into becoming military officers, cops, fireman, or teachers. Very good money, job security, and very good pensions. A master's degree in engineering from Tufts and good internship/work experience will get you a $75k/year, 50-hour per week job in the private sector in Boston. As a Boston cop you start out with a base salary of $90k/year with lots of opportunity for lucrative OT working details (standing around construction sites). By the age of 45-50 you can retire.

Besides, your white kid can't compete in the long run with the masses from India and China.

Cops and other first responders won’t be immune to the workplace dynamics faced by virtually all of their fellow citizens, legal or otherwise.
Their relatively short careers and early retirement will eventually be a thing of the past, as stressed cities push for higher retirement ages to meet budgets. The cities will win those budget battles, and cops will work to 55-60, and won’t have as much pension spiking to buy new boats, etc.

Of course, with more immigration there will be a need (A Demand!) for more officers to protect the populace.

Africa has very high birth rates, but this USED to be balanced by very high death rates. When naive westerners began going to the Dark continent and eradicating diseases, it never occurred to them how violently they were upsetting the demographic balance. All those Africans who WOULD have died of childhood illnesses or starvation, thus grew into adulthood (and in turn would have MORE children). But there were no jobs, infrastructure or anything else to support them. This “bottom up” strategy was a mistake. A “top down” policy, helping to improve the lives of people already of adulthood age would have been much more viable in the long run.

I don’t know what the song and dance about the african population “explosion” is. if africa had not suffered a whole millenium of slavery (trans atlantic and indian ocean) the population of sub saharan africa would already be far higher than the “doomsday” predictions here. One notes the sheer ill will and hope for a calamity by some on here. That says a lot more about the problem than the “predicted” population rise.

” I bet if europe had gone through slavery, colonisation and neo colonisation, its population today would similarly be deemed “less intelligent” simply because they would have been denied a thousand years of opportunity for development.”

Good grief Steve you really brought out all the hilarious elements of your comments section this time.

The beta cuckold fetishizing blacks make their usual appearance with one hand in their pants while they forget that 12 negroes savaging grandma doesn't make them physically superior, no matter how many wedgies they received from the basketball team back in high school.

Then you've got the alt-right version of "Housing prices always go up!" in the people who assume history is linear, screaming that we're doomed while they engage in auto-erotic asphyxia. Yes yes, because events aren't coming apart at the seams it means that blacks are going to overrun everywhere. I'm sure that's exactly what's going to happen.

The world has been running on inertia since the 60s, and anyone who looks at the news knows the current "democracy gud" globalist paradigm is on its last legs, no matter how many gay electronic toys they put out.

I don't blame the two groups of commenters for engaging in their "we're ALL doomed" chatter. I'm sure the Mad Max future looks pretty bleak to people who live for posting that kind of crap on alt-right blogs. People who have actual skills aren't going to be so bad off.

    LULZ.

And yes, Arizona is still great for driving. The illegals haven’t ruined it. And it supported the Confederacy.

The pension benefit is the real super benefit – 75% of salary after 25 years of service!

I forgot to mention, I support pensions for firefighters and policemen, and don’t really regard them as a perk. They’re more like a requirement. How else can anyone expect men to do a job with such a high likelihood of injury, disability, or death? Cops are also made to retire earlier than other professions. Past the 40s is really pushing it for a cop. Sure, there’s administration, but only the top % are chosen. The rest are shown the door pretty early. Why go into a job with a high chance of permanent back injury or the like, if you’re not going to be taken care of when you retire? There has to be a guarantee that a cop will be taken care of, otherwise, there’s not much incentive.

Same thing goes for firefighters, who can end up crispy or crunchy, too.

    • Replies: @Wilkey
You're usually brilliant, but your arguments here are dubious. There are plenty of non-public safety jobs that are physically demanding which one cannot reasonably do past a certain age. Construction comes to mind. Yet those workers are denied pensions - and forget about early pensions, they have no pensions at all - because they're private sector. If cops and firefighters can't realistically do their jobs past their 40s, that's no reason to enable them not to work at all. If they can't move up or over, give them a 25% pension and let them find another line of work. Or else pay them adequately while they're working and tell them they might want to save.
    , @Brutusale
Public safety officers aren't even in the top 10 for most dangerous professions. Of those that are, only commercial pilots make anywhere near what LEOs make. Compare to commercial fishermen, who make $28K/year and have a on-the-job death rate of 127/100,000.

We recently had a case in MA where a 72-year old retired Lynnfield cop was collecting unemployment because, even though he had retired and was collecting his pension, he was STILL doing details for $45/hour and filed for benefits when he wasn't getting the work.

  106. @ Ted:
you hit the point. And from my point of view exactly this is the hidden motivation behind antiracism, development aid and subsequently african population growth itself (as for this population growth development aid and antiracism are conditio sine qua non). White women who want to do everything they can to have a situation in which many black men try to get in contact with them. So they can choose the blackest and strongest of them, or at least crowd out unattractive white males from the partner market.
White males who are also engaged in development aid suffer from a condition which makes them identify with female needs, even if it goes against their own interest.

  108. Anyone looking for a Master Race will be disappointed, and negative things can be gleaned from all the data regarding every race and sex combination.

White women don’t like Black men for marriage much. Inference, Black men make poor providers. Black women are the least desired women of all races according to Kanazawa, Black men the least. Asian men the least and Asian women the most. With Whites in secondary positions for both men (least) and women (most).

Sure, Black guys are “sexy” and have the low IQ, low impulse control, dominance attitude. This provokes in men of other races … well when I was in China, it was common to here of Black men picking up Chinese women and pushing around some Chinese guy in the Universities. These were generally Africans who were the less favored sons of the Chiefs (the most favored went to Oxbridge or the US). Invariably the Chinese guys would call up 300 of their friends and end up tossing said African(s) off a building.

While Black guys are very good at speed/agility/power; they’ve historically been very bad, and considered worthless, in warfare. Since the agricultural age warfare has been a great charnel house of killing that requires discipline and hours of extended labor. The slaughter at Hastings and Cannae lasted almost 14 hours. Experience in both WWI and WWII with Black troops showed they could not withstand shelling, privation, attrition, no sleep, little food or water, things White troops considered routine. This was also the experience in the Civil War, both Grant and Sherman had the lowest opinions of Black troops and did not trust them. Being first down the field to spike the football is worth little in even agricultural warfare; a bunch of olive farmers from Rome conquered the whole Med basin and half of Northern Europe.

The risk to Africa is that they are caught in a trap. Of dependence on technology, that can only come from outside (Africans are just not blessed with enough people with enough of an IQ to maintain technology). This means: technology to funnel sewage away from cities, to provide clean drinking water, to provide safe and cheap food, which requires safe and cheap transport, all of which is a technology trap that Africans are utterly reliant on someone: Chinese, Americans, Europeans, to maintain. Africans cannot even keep Ebola from spreading: the flip side of male sexiness which is impulsiveness and violence by low IQs is … Africans raiding hospitals, destroying isolation supplies, gowns, bleach, etc. in the belief that these “cause” Ebola by magic, and taking bloody bedsheets home (so they can catch it). Whites and Asians have many faults, but such massive superstitious stupidity is not one of them.

I would not be shocked to find half of Africa dead in a few years, out of Ebola. The African nations are totally unable to control it, their people are dumber than dirt and incapable of understanding how to fight it (isolation and containment, avoid handing bodily fluids, the dead, etc) and believe it is magic.

Much btw of Whites worship of Black people is the ugly legacy of Christianity. Rich White people want to demonstrate that they are too, like Christ by “saving” the African heaving mass of low IQ humanity. For now beta male provision is devalued by rising female incomes off the WWII peace bubble, and the welfare state. A global pandemic out of Africa, a few nukes here and there, and we’re back if we are lucky to Victory Gardens and rationing. If we are lucky. With most of the make-work female stuff gone. The modern world is very resilient, right up to the point where all the transport links fail out of fear of global pandemics or nukes.

  109. @Truth

What are the odds a police officer will get outsourced by an H1B immigrant from Chennai, or wake up one morning to find that the skill he has spent a decade developing has gone the way of Betamax?

Not necessarily. The slave trade ended while Africa was still caught in a Malthusian trap. Thus it would have entered its modern era with roughly the same starting population, and would have roughly the same population today. It might even have less: perhaps without the guilt of the slave trade we’d be more indifferent to African suffering, and less inclined to do the things which have raised its population.

And of course Africa “inflicted” the slave trade on itself. Every African kingdom of historical note, going back to at least AD 300, was engaged in the capture and trade of slaves.

A lot of the troops serving early in Korea performed poorly (they had previously been engaged in easy occupation duty), but the 24th seems to have sustained a poor performance.

I guess the Mexican Zoning Plan of: llantera, carniceria, trailer park, Sonoran hot dog stand doesn't quite jive with them.

Wow, I am really sorry to read your comments about Tucson.

I was told not to go to Nogales (which we used to visit when I was a kid) last time I went to Tucson. The person did not say why, but I knew. This person is a proverbial nice white person who sold parents’ house and moved – you guessed it — to a place in the foothills of the Catalinas. (Memory fails – the mountain chain to the north.) Puke inducing hypocrisy. Meanwhile, you can’t talk sense to her about immigration. I’m the family racist, like the a family pet that is a bit “off.”

This DWL still thinks that they are just like “our grandparents.”

Re: Komment Kontrol – here? I feel that Steve let’s most everything through, no? He certainly wouldn’t censor honest obz about Bellcurve Behavior Patterns (BBPs).

I don’t read certain commenters, or respond to them. I have my pet peeve, which I’ll keep to myself. I just use this place to spout off steam.

I'm referring to the fact that Whiskey, pizza pepper, and others seem to always get through with their fawning comments about blacks they see on TV ("oh swo BIG and swo STWONG," lisped the iSteve commenter) when anyone who has dealt with blacks in any actual capacity knows they make the "People of Wal Mart" look like Ozzie and Harriet more often than not. Meanwhile if you start making noise about what happens at the end of the road when mass immigration and a welfare state start imploding and how to perhaps deal with the fallout of a Golden Horde pouring out of the cities now that Gimmedats is shut off, komment kontrol buries it.

But obvious trolls like Ted make it through with embarrassing commentary straight from literotica. Go figure.

Apparently, some of the pizza comes from cheap knock-off joints. This place would really benefit from user accounts.

David Goldman (Spengler) has been saying this for years. He claims this is why the mullahs are so aggressive now, because they see that in 25 years, Iran will be entering a state of complete collapse.

Fifth, a pandemic, if it comes, hopefully kills you and your family.

didn’t we technology our way into this mess to begin with ?

Yup, that’s the one. There are pretty large swathes of Tucson that have less charm than South Phoenix. Just ugly sprawl of block after block of low cost health clinics, Mexican food stands, and car repair places with bars over all the windows. With it comes the waddling young Mexican mothers with five children en tow and no father to be seen. The only males are the ones walking down the street, slouching with their pants around their ankles looking for a bus stop.

No sign of SWPLs or their usual habitats of REI, Whole Foods, Apple stores, and “indie” bike shops. Diversity for thee, not for me.

    Mmm, Krugerrands.

Maybe it’s like “The Dread Pirate Roberts”, a titled office that black guys hand down to one another as a sacred trust.

Hahaha! Glad I wasn't drinking milk.

The pension benefit is the real super benefit – 75% of salary after 25 years of service!

I forgot to mention, I support pensions for firefighters and policemen, and don't really regard them as a perk. They're more like a requirement. How else can anyone expect men to do a job with such a high likelihood of injury, disability, or death? Cops are also made to retire earlier than other professions. Past the 40s is really pushing it for a cop. Sure, there's administration, but only the top % are chosen. The rest are shown the door pretty early. Why go into a job with a high chance of permanent back injury or the like, if you're not going to be taken care of when you retire? There has to be a guarantee that a cop will be taken care of, otherwise, there's not much incentive.

Same thing goes for firefighters, who can end up crispy or crunchy, too.

    You mean like electrical linesman?
