This is fascinating data. But why is the second term of the Obama administration a time of such racial tumult? One reason that I think we can rule out is the Obama administration and the federal government. I don’t think government under Obama during term 2 has meddled around in racial matters more than in term 1. The DOJ seems to have kept up the same pattern throughout his presidency. So then WHY?
Another possibility is that the "certain" end of a permissive Obama presidency in 2016 caused said coalition to feel a sense of urgency to advance its more outrageous ideas. The two alternatives need not be exclusive.
In any case, I find that the Times does not so much lead the public in these things as give service to the views of its elite readers, egging them on when it seems propitious to do so.

Hysteria re: racism, secism, transgenderism is exploding because of Obama and his rhetoric.
Obama's actions and rhetoric has been the most racially and socially divisive in my memory. He's helped all lefties discover that the more they scream about "injustice" (real or imagined, usually the latter) the more power they get.

Speaking of New York, I was watching a documentary called Rubble Kings, it was about Black gangs in 1970s New York City. This was pre-hip hop/pre-gangsta rap, so the Black thugs were not wearing baggy clothes and they were not sagging their pants in the 1970s. They wore biker looking jackets, boots, and skin tight pants.

The biker look that the black gangs wore was lifted from the Hells Angels. The Angels were the only American counterculture of the 60's/70's that signaled toughness and masculinity and the black and Latin gangs in NYC latched onto it with gusto.

The early celebration when you are up by three touchdowns with only a minute on the clock. I’m confused. Have you noticed that Blacks are now featured in at least 50% of all television commercials. In many, they are the lead ethnicity. In others, they are the only ethnicity … and it’s not Black History Month. One would think that companies are chasing their dollars since they must represent a new and lucrative market the rest of us are unaware of. But there is a limit ironically due to globalization. Over fifty percent of TV revenue now comes from overseas according to the Financial Times; and you'll notice things in TV and movies.
First, reality shows have declined dramatically as scripted shows are all over the place. Not just broadcast and cable networks but streaming services. Reality shows sell poorly overseas, overseas people like to rip off the basic concept and roll their own, which is easy and cheaper than buying the reality show and dubbing it. Comedies sell poorly overseas and note most of the new scripted content is aimed for overseas sales: one hour dramas. Chinese/Japanese audiences are not enamored of Black romantic leads, to say the least, which has been confirmed by Big Data i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google, and the various online groups in China.
There are a very few shows with a Black female lead romantically paired with a White male lead; however Shonda Rhimes Scandal seems to be the only ratings winner and that one is likely unsellable overseas. For all the hype networks seem to be rolling out superhero shows and resolute older White authority figure men leading a diverse team of crime fighters, or quirky / genius rule-breaking White men leading a diverse team of crime fighters. That is what sells overseas and ironically globalization puts a damper or ceiling on tranny stuff, "diversity," and all the rest including feminism.
IMHO we are witnessing the culmination of the Fourth Great Awakening, a religious revival of not Christian but Post-Christian religious fervor. And that among only the small group of SuperZip elites who run things and are subject to group think and religious zeal. After the euphoria of Obama’s election in 2008, I think the professional left temporarily believed they had actually completely won the political debate so the 2010 midterm elections results were a total shock, as were the steady GOP gains in both chambers since that time and lack of punishment meted out to the party for opposing the Greatest President Ever.
The left ascribes all things it sees as problems to powerful external forces – it’s never the fault of its own behavior or its various constituent groups. Even W, who was not a great president, was able to extract enough political support from the public to occasionally force Dems to support his legislative priorities out of fear of being on the wrong side of their constituencies – the Iraq War, Medicare RX drug expansion, No Child Left Behind, etc. In contrast, Obama has never had the same effect on the public/GOP for any of his priorities and has had to rely on party line votes or executive actions to get his way. For the left this can only be due to irrational hatred of various kinds, not Obama’s inability to persuade the public to his point of view.

How many times a day does the average person hear or read these words? Every day I hear them constantly from morning till night through all media. Television, movies, commercials and ads all incorporate some propaganda in them. When you start noting each and every single instance throughout the day a person starts to realize what a total propaganda matrix we’re all living in.
“Feminism” blooms prematurely from 1912-16, then flowers in harmony with “sexism” and “misogyny” since 1970, and they have all expanded lately, though not to the same extent as “transgender”.

One of the striking things is just how much they’ve completely lost their heads over identity politics, and, most especially, transgenderism.
How can it be that there is so much more attention paid to racism today, in the day in which a black has been elected President, than there was in the time of segregation and Martin Luther King Jr.?
And how can it be that the issue of transgenderism — a frankly freak condition that affects well less than 1 person in a thousand — can receive more attention (twice as much, by my reckoning) than racism did in the time of segregation and Martin Luther King Jr.?

What’s fascinating is the decline in “racism” even through the beginning of the Obama administration. The abrupt volte-face isn’t 2nd term: it’s right after the 2010 elections and the frank and immediate rejection of Obama having the power of a compliant house of Representatives. First, reality shows have declined dramatically as scripted shows are all over the place. Not just broadcast and cable networks but streaming services. Reality shows sell poorly overseas, overseas people like to rip off the basic concept and roll their own, which is easy and cheaper than buying the reality show and dubbing it. Comedies sell poorly overseas and note most of the new scripted content is aimed for overseas sales: one hour dramas. Chinese/Japanese audiences are not enamored of Black romantic leads, to say the least, which has been confirmed by Big Data i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Google, and the various online groups in China.
There are a very few shows with a Black female lead romantically paired with a White male lead; however Shonda Rhimes Scandal seems to be the only ratings winner and that one is likely unsellable overseas. For all the hype networks seem to be rolling out superhero shows and resolute older White authority figure men leading a diverse team of crime fighters, or quirky / genius rule-breaking White men leading a diverse team of crime fighters. That is what sells overseas and ironically globalization puts a damper or ceiling on tranny stuff, “diversity,” and all the rest including feminism.
IMHO we are witnessing the culmination of the Fourth Great Awakening, a religious revival of not Christian but Post-Christian religious fervor. And that among only the small group of SuperZip elites who run things and are subject to group think and religious zeal. I knew this was bad when I had dinner with friends and they had a woman visitor from New York, whose child went to an exclusive private school in Manhattan. A girl at the school, or maybe it was a boy, wanted to be known as “Xe”, or maybe it was “Zse” (first letter pronounced like the initial sound in Zsa Zsa Gabor) and did not want the school to say “he” or “she”, or anything referencing sex and this grown woman, who had gone to college, who was wealthy, took it seriously. Amen on 501′s, which I have been wearing most of my life (outside of service time, of course). You used to have to buy them 2 inches wider and longer than your size and wash them twice in hot water to shrink before you wore them. Even then they were stiff for a couple of weeks. I once found an old pair of Levi’s from early 20th C. that my grandfather wore, the twill was even stiffer back then.

Reporters are now free to be what they really want, namely the village gossip.
This means that those people who get written about are those who are best at snagging attention. Our media has become a perfect democracy of attention hogs. Those who squeal the loudest, win. Reporters are, at heart, prone to histrionics, and they are drawn towards and are sympathetic to other people prone to histrionics like trannies, which is why reporters love to write about them.
In sum, silly people have silly interests. They’re rather write about Bruce Jenner than the national debt, because economics is boring and the thought of Jenner makes them all giggly and excited.

Well said. They used to call MTF transgendered “trannies” … freaks … who were obsessed with garnering attention to (what is that phrase?) “validate their identity”. This is fascinating data. But why is the second term of the Obama administration a time of such racial tumult? One reason that I think we can rule out is the Obama administration and the federal government. I don't think government under Obama during term 2 has meddled around in racial matters more than in term 1. The DOJ seems to have kept up the same pattern throughout his presidency. So then WHY?
Duh, because after he was re-elected, the gloves came off and he became emboldened to act in concert with his ideological views without fear of political repercussions. With a GOP majority in both houses of Congress now, he has nothing to lose by letting his freak flag fly. Some “legacy”.
