From The Guardian:

Is the way we think about overpopulation racist?

Fred Pearce

Half the world lives in urban areas, yet environmental concerns about megacities often focus on developing economies. But consumption is as important as population

The article isn’t as bad as the headline.

But, we aren’t likely to help Africans stave off their onrushing overpopulation because we are so worried about thinking racist thoughts.

  1. “The article isn’t as bad as the headline.”

These papers have a quota for how many times they call realistic people racist every week. Guardian doesn’t want to wait until Friday to guilt the goyim into accepting genocide.

White lives matter too much. Balance will only be restored to this planet when white people disappear. People of Color possess angelic energy that is in perfect harmony with the earth, unlike the whites whose very existence is predicated on raping Mother Gaia. Always remember that white DNA is repugnant; your DNA is an abomination, white people. White genocide isn't real but it absolutely should be. All white are racist, only whites are racist, and racism is not taught but inherited. Evil is in your cave beast neanderthal crakkka DNA. All I want for Christmas is the abolition of whypeepo. My hunch is that the best the white man can hope for is to end up in a zoo, as an endangered species. Or maybe we simply have to remember that extinction is part of nature’s grand plan!

tiny duck - it is sad that you spend so much time imitating a profoundly stupid person.

Life is short, my young friend, and nobody, on their deathbed, says that they wished they had spent more time on the internet imitating people who say stupid things.

Good night, little troll: God loves you just as much as he loves those you hate. But God already sees the day when you will wish with all your heart you had not been so hateful so often, even in jest.

And ducks are almost my favorite animals, please change your screen name, thank you, you do not deserve to bear the name of Duck.

Did I mention that it is wrong to have hatred in your heart? It is, in fact, profoundly wrong to waste so much time saying the wicked things you say. Repent, little fellow! Some day you may be a real person, whom people respect!

also, nobody believes that you are African-American.

i am sure you are a big fan of eminem

well, as Alec Guiness once said to that poor Star Wars fanboy - never watch that movie again.

Since most people of color live close to the equator their economy in effect receives and utilizes (more or less effectively) greater amounts of energy from solar radiation. When this is added to the equation it offsets energy derived from oil and coal used by people who live in latitudes located further from the equator. Your energy accounting is, like the views on race you pretend to espouse, disingenuously simplistic.

Perhaps next they can obliquely mention the impact of African immigration to the first world on consumption by those individuals. Or the outsize impact on consumption from our "elites." For example, all of those private plane rides to places like Davos.

  9. Complete idiocy. The more people you have the greater your ecological footprint and the greater our carbon footprint. Rich people like celebs, politicians, and athletes have ecological and carbon footprints that dwarf the common man. They sell the idea that everyone can have it all…what would the world look like? Much of this stuff is easily quantifiable. Obama and his family during his presidential 8 years had an ecological and carbon footprint larger than some small third world island chains.

These rich clowns have 4 or 5 homes which are massive ecological and carbon disasters yet they walk around screaming about global climate change. Read the late ecologist Garret Hardin. His views on law of the commons and overpopulation are still valid today. Hawking just died and one of his messages was overpopulation and pollution. Some Jew gave the Sierra Club 100 million to remove overpopulation from their ecological discussion.

These people are nothing but phonies. We will destroy civilization while we abide by this politically correct ideology.

    "Complete idiocy."

Yeah, that about sums up your comment.

Carbon is a trace gas in the atmosphere, 0.04%, and has no effect on weather or climate. It is dwarfed by things like the urban heat island effect and cow farts. A 100% concentration of CO2 acts like a greenhouse, but a 0.04% concentration of CO2 does not.

No matter what nine science illiterates on the Supreme Court say, carbon dioxide is not a pollutant -- it is plant food. And science isn't decided in courtrooms.

I can't believe an otherwise intelligent commenter like Authochton agreed with your hysterical menstruating.

The real rub is that the Guardianista types don’t actually care about the lives of Africans: if they did, they’d be bullish for curbing population growth, just as development-minded African potentates like Paul Kagame are. Africans are every bit the abstract symbol to them as ordinary Europeans are. True, they are fetishized rather than scorned. But they are not taken any more seriously as breathing, living human beings, with all the complexities inherent in the breed, as adults. It’s no wonder East Africa prefers the Chinese and the Israelis as investors to the West. They are at least open about being their largely for their own interests-and treat them as business partners rather than children.

The egocentrism of upstanding white upper middle class liberals (what the Chinese exquisitely term “baizuo”) never ceases to astound me.

    >But consumption is as important as population

Oh, but you don’t seriously expect the oligarchs or their upper-middle class devotees to cut down on their own consumption habits, do you? They’ll gladly pay the higher prices to continue doing so. No, that’s *your* job, you racist hater, you.

Just like they aren’t going to send their kids out of those too-expensive-for-you predominantly white and Asian school private schools in the name of diversity. They’ll volunteer yours. They aren’t going to place Section 8 housing near their gentrified inner city districts-they’ll relocate them out to your home. They aren’t going to have their own jobs and livelihoods sacrificed to free trade principles-they’ll volunteer yours. They aren’t going to send their own sons to die in our next war of choice in the Middle East: they’ll send yours. They won’t make it impossible to have yeoman independence or a family for themselves in the name of progress, of course, but you… you might have to end up doing that. It’s Progress.

They’ll fight for their own principles down to every last thing The Others possess.

    Almost correct.

A few of them will actually live the life they claim. The occasional Rockefeller who goes to isolated areas and is eaten by headhunters:

    https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/What-Really-Happened-to-Michael-Rockefeller-180949813/

Although he wasted a LOT of resources going there. A few rich people will live off the grid.

Or, some, like Al Gore, will try to make up for their waste by paying people to plant a bunch of trees somewhere on their behalf. (And I actually LIKE Al Gore, but some of the things he does are too easy to make fun of. )

Other than that, most of this will be people who waste a lot of resources nagging the lumpenproletariat about their wasteful ways.

Everyone's favorite example is still valid:

  19. Admittedly the ‘carbon footprint’ of wealthy people is larger but you then have to also believe carbon dioxide is a pollutant. OTOH the fecal footprint of poor people is larger and since there are many more poor people than rich people this can be a problem and there is no doubt feces are a pollutant.

The Telegraph had an article the other day pointing out the dire situation in Barbados where beaches and restaurants are closed due to human waste overflowing from the islands decaying sewage treatment plant. For an island whose economy depends on tourism allowing this to happen portends an economic collapse as wealthy tourists and cruise ships do not enjoy the smell of excrement when they vacation.

The only real question is whether The Economist whipped western political class will ultimately triumph and force its agenda of open borders upon the EU and north America.
In that case, surely, London will become Lagos, Rome will become Calcutta, and the USA will become Brazil.

On the other hand, if distinct, sovereign nation states are still permitted to have immigration policies, then the west – as distinct island of civility in a god awful world – might just might continue, in the same way that Singapore exists as an island of the super rich in a planet of paupers.

  26. Did you miss the story about the popularity of Tex-Mex versus Barbecue in Texas? It had never occurred to me that my taste in food might be racist. I just assumed my preference for real cheese versus fake cheese was part of the same evil classist world view that had led me to prefer squash over golf, 18th century architecture over suburban sprawl, and sailboats over speedboats. I was as usual wrong. Is there any subject people won’t be chippy about?

Complete idiocy. The more people you have the greater your ecological footprint and the greater our carbon footprint. Rich people like celebs, politicians, and athletes have ecological and carbon footprints that dwarf the common man. They sell the idea that everyone can have it all...what would the world look like?

  35. But, we aren’t likely to help Africans stave off their onrushing overpopulation because we are so worried about thinking racist thoughts.

Getting us to worry about our racist thoughts is one of the ways we are tricked into opening up our borders for and handing out cash to the ‘victims’ of our racist thoughts.

This will lessen the pressures of overpopulation in Africa. Of course, it will make life worse for the current citizens of Europe, Canada, and the US, but no one at the Guardian and its ilk seems to care about those people.

It was an annoying article trying to convince North Americans and Europeans that packing into cities is "a good thing," and that of course, we need to be willing to take in millions of immigrants, etc., because it is the "moral thing to do." Bringing up public defecation and urination is always a yuck factor: Don't want people who poop/pee everywhere in my city!

By then, there will not be any more boats (people who know how to use a boat) left to ferry migrants out to "the island colony." Bwahhahaaaa!

Shanty towns ... have a lot to teach us about green living. They are high-density neighbourhoods, their alleys are largely pedestrianised, and many of their inhabitants are inveterate recyclers of the surrounding city’s refuse.

The real rub is that the Guardianista types don't actually care about the lives of Africans: if they did, they'd be bullish for curbing population growth, just as development-minded African potentates like Paul Kagame are. Africans are every bit the abstract symbol to them as ordinary Europeans are. True, they are fetishized rather than scorned. But they are not taken any more seriously as breathing, living human beings, with all the complexities inherent in the breed, as adults. It's no wonder East Africa prefers the Chinese and the Israelis as investors to the West. They are at least open about being their largely for their own interests-and treat them as business partners rather than children.

The egocentrism of upstanding white upper middle class liberals (what the Chinese exquisitely term "baizuo") never ceases to astound me.

    >But consumption is as important as population

Oh, but you don't seriously expect the oligarchs or their upper-middle class devotees to cut down on their own consumption habits, do you? They'll gladly pay the higher prices to continue doing so. No, that's *your* job, you racist hater, you.

Just like they aren't going to send their kids out of those too-expensive-for-you predominantly white and Asian school private schools in the name of diversity. They'll volunteer yours. They aren't going to place Section 8 housing near their gentrified inner city districts-they'll relocate them out to your home. They aren't going to have their own jobs and livelihoods sacrificed to free trade principles-they'll volunteer yours. They aren't going to send their own sons to die in our next war of choice in the Middle East: they'll send yours. They won't make it impossible to have yeoman independence or a family for themselves in the name of progress, of course, but you... you might have to end up doing that. It's Progress.

They'll fight for their own principles down to every last thing The Others possess.

No matter what nine science illiterates on the Supreme Court say, carbon dioxide is not a pollutant — it is plant food. And science isn’t decided in courtrooms.

I can’t believe an otherwise intelligent commenter like Authochton agreed with your hysterical menstruating.

You have no clue to what you are talking about but you wouldn't understand science anyway. Even without the carbon footprint do you really think that overpopulation isn't real? You should write up your theories. I'm sure there is some magazine or special ed journal like Mental Midget Monthly that would publish your mentally handicapped analysis under the special snow flake edition.
    , @Autochthon
Wait a tic. I agreed with his sound points about the corruption of the Sierra Club and their ilk, the horrors of overpopulation and pollution, and that the production of carbon by rich bastards is far greater than mine. The dude never made a point that carbon was inherently evil, only that the jackasses who constantly decry it are the very ones who produce monumental amounts of it.

I don't think sex is bad in and of itself, but if I came to find out a man who incessantly denounced it as an evil activity was himself attending depraved orgies every weekend, I'd take the piss out of that person.

In any event, I am myself agnostic about the business of so-called climate change and carbon footprints. My position is those things need not be settler, since we know there are too damned many people; too much (inarguable) pollution (Mercury in water, acid rain, smog, patches of garbage in the oceans – that kind of thing); imminent extinction of wonderful creatures like snow leopards, elephants, tigers, great apes, and so on (and, yes, the critters who are not charismatic but nonetheless should not be pperish from the Earth!); loss of space, freedom, and the ability to be alone in the wilderness away from gaggles gabbling humans; and so on. Nevermind more pragmatic concerns like the ability to buy a house, avoid horrifying traffic, earn a decent living, and so on.

These things are bad, preventable, and tragic. And they all have at their root overpopulation.

Been through the Swindon magic roundabout a number of times, I used to live there - it's a dreadful town, and now with added extra vibrancy. The magic roundabout works well.

There’s another one near me, in Hemel Hempstead, also called the Magic Roundabout. I hadn’t heard of the Swindon one. Ours isn’t quite as sensible – fewer choices and fewer interior lanes – but works reasonably well. Loved the patronising Wired commentary, which they turn on specially for us ‘Brits’.

But rather than answer that I think a better tactic would be to pose the counter question, “Would you allow your 14 year old daughter to go otherwise unchaperoned on an overnight trip (say, a school function) with any black male guardian between the ages of 13 and 60?”

You have no clue to what you are talking about but you wouldn’t understand science anyway. Even without the carbon footprint do you really think that overpopulation isn’t real? Everyone from Harding to Hawking but you know more. Overpopulaton isn’t idiocy. It’s what every good environmental scientist understands.

You should write up your theories. I’m sure there is some magazine or special ed journal like Mental Midget Monthly that would publish your mentally handicapped analysis under the special snow flake edition.

I don’t think sex is bad in and of itself, but if I came to find out a man who incessantly denounced it as an evil activity was himself attending depraved orgies every weekend, I’d take the piss out of that person.

Haha, I couldn't get the image of the movie, I am Legend, out of my head: in a future dystopian time, evil scientists/evil leftists can unleash a pathogen in a crowded city to quickly and efficiently, wipe out millions of people. I've always hated disaster movies and "epidemic" movies, and, that one, was one of the creepiest.

Another irritating thing about articles like these that seek to brainwash us into accepting a borderless world: Peter T's seasteading cities will become the new, new residence of the elites! By then, there will not be any more boats (people who know how to use a boat) left to ferry migrants out to "the island colony." Bwahhahaaaa!

At some point we have to stop taking responsibility for the problems created by black people. Offering help only seems to make the problems worse.

This is perhaps the most brilliant parable ever written about bigotry. In the final scene the hero realizes that he is actually the real nosferatu, the other, that all the definitions are reversed, that the monsters he had hunted are the normal men now -- and then they gave that to a Zionist using Gulf War II imagery during the Terror War, and no consideration whatsoever of the humanity of the other side, which was the whole point of the original story.

It's an irrefutable explanation, in detail, of my point in an earlier, similar discussion here that anyone who voluntarily refuses to reproduce (or to reproduce less than he otherwise would...) is just a jackass offering up resources to lesser people who will reproduce like cockroaches.

You can’t out-breed cockroaches. You have to control their populations.

I was 10...my parents thought that movie was just too scary for kids. Yet, we would always watch Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Prisoner, the Avengers, Twilight Zone, Dirty Harry, Death Wish, The Godfather (the horse head scene, I was told to go get something from the kitchen) Psycho re-run, old bloody westerns, bloody WW2 movie re-runs, and old bloody bibley movies....so, yeah, I was already jaded - but my parents (very proper) wanted to believe they were correct parents ;) I kinda' relish the fact that I am the only poster who is fearless about posting emojis! - know it is girly, but I believe y'all are ok with that.

I was completely smitten with Jaws and watched it multiple times well before puberty. I never had trouble with swimming. I never swim now, but that’s because I never go out. I was obsessed with sharks the same way normal kids are obsessed with dinosaurs.
A brilliant trash-movie. They had psychological research informing their editing of the Muffin Man scene, they established the exact point at which a shot is held “too long” (cf the Exorcist’s subliminal shots).
    And that music.

There's an even earlier adaptation (the orginal is a novel by Richard Matheson) starring Vincent Price; Matheson worked on its screenplay, but was dissatisfied with the film.

I feel so strongly about the Akiva Goldsman adaptation that I am not sure if I can write about it intelligently.
    To make the attempt:
This is perhaps the most brilliant parable ever written about bigotry. In the final scene the hero realizes that he is actually the real nosferatu, the other, that all the definitions are reversed, that the monsters he had hunted are the normal men now — and then they gave that to a Zionist using Gulf War II imagery during the Terror War, and no consideration whatsoever of the humanity of the other side, which was the whole point of the original story.
Imagine a cover of John Lennon’s Imagine that tells you to go to church before you join the army.

I am always a little disgusted when people tell me of I am Legend, but I think I may be unhealthily attached to Vincent Price's version.

I'm not sure that Matheson's parable is quite so effective as some people seem to think (not to defend the later Will Smiff vehicle in any way, shape or form either)

The Vincent Price version isn’t too bad. The Chuck Heston version (The Omega Man) differs very significantly from the book, but it has Heston giving an amazing performance. In fact it’s one of my favourite Heston performances and I’m a major Heston fan.

Grand-kids are grand-kids. Only a true racist would make this out to be a bad thing as you have.

The Bob Marley speech in the Goldsman trashing is literally the model for the intolerant anti-intolerance we see today. The empty rhetoric of non-specific love very lightly rests on old-fashioned tribalism. We will stand up to them and triumph over them; our purity against their vileness, our righteousness proven by their evil. And then there's the ending. Originally it's a revelatory rethink of a whole weltanschauung, followed by an execution whose import is totally different on that side of the rethink; Goldsman has the racially pure superior tribe escaping the dangers of the mixed nations to a redoubt surrounded by a wall (sorry, meant to write "fence") and spilling over with American military surplus (no word on if they claim the Litani river as their drinking water or chop undersea cables).
But at least Will Smith does more with a mannikin than a potted plant can do with Mark Wahlberg (or with Harvey Weinstein for that matter).

People of Color having many children is sound as they commune with nature and use less resources

1 white child uses 10 times the resources of 100 Children of Color

This is why I encourage my white female students to only date Boys of Color

Generally when white people talk about overpopulation they are expressing their fears of losing primacy and privilege

This is why I encourage my white female students to only date Boys of Color

So you hate Girls of Color?

    Not surprising…but good to know.

Maybe not, but it does seem to me that Goldsman completely and deliberately over-writes that aspect of the story.

Irrational mining? You mean like Jack Aubrey getting suckered into his backyard secreting a Roman silver mine? And as for attics, there are too many white hoarders, but it seems to me there might be one or two enthusiastic consumers of color. You do accept that poaching endangered species is a form of environmental damage?

    Who creates the demand?

And on a scale of 1-10…strip mining and the gas from the farts of your pounds of beef habit outstrip–Ha Ha– poaching.

Friend, your interlocutor is emphasising how silly and preposterously holier-than-thou "Imagine" is coming as it did from a cynical, filthy-rich rockstar who lived the high life of materialistic hedonism.

Thanks for the clarification. I missed what you took from the post.
