A press release from the Anti-Defamation League:

ADL Honors U.S. Air Force Academy Superintendent Jay Silveria for His Courageous Response to Racial Slurs

RACE & RACIAL JUSTICE

San Francisco, CA, November 14, 2017 … The superintendent of the United States Air Force Academy was honored Tuesday by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for his actions in standing up to racial slurs written on doors in a student dormitory at the Colorado Springs military academy earlier this year.

Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria was presented with the ADL Americanism Award in a ceremony at San Francisco’s City Hall Rotunda, where his courageous words against racism were celebrated by local and national ADL board members, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee, District Attorney George Gascón, and other dignitaries.

In September, when racial slurs appeared in the academy’s preparatory school dormitory and photos of the slurs were shared on social media, Silveria called a school-wide assembly where he made a defiant speech clearly and forcefully condemning racism.

In a video that later went viral, Silveria told the assembly of nearly 5,500 students, faculty and staff: “If you can’t treat someone with dignity and respect, Get out!”

“In that simple act, he demonstrated a kind of courage that so many administrators, quite frankly, seem to lack,” Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO said in presenting the award.

“The general rightfully saw the racial slurs on the wall, as writing on the wall. His clarion call for decency was heard far beyond the walls of the academy, and his message literally blotted out the social media pictures of the slurs because his words were viewed by millions of people on YouTube.”

In his remarks, Silveria said he was humbled to be so honored. He said he was accepting the award on behalf of the faculty, staff and coaches of the Air Force Academy who teach the values of leadership, integrity and excellence every day. …

It’s okay to be honest.

Irony has nothing to do with it, not when it’s up against Iron Narrative.

It’s death of simple honesty and a thing called Integrity.

PS. Bad move on the part of ADL. If ADL is about combating the lies of cranks who say Shoah never happened, how does it serve their mission to uphold lies such as the recent anti-white defamation?

How can ADL fight defamation while supporting another kind of defamation?

I'm unsure of that, Bannon wants to stir up a reaction against China, and he's fully on board with continuing adventurism in the Middle East.

President Xi Jinping has his faults, but he's not flooding China with mass immigration, and he's far harsher on Islam than he is on Christianity.

Bannon can't seem to say anything positive about Russia, which is the only way to sucessfully push back against the left's narrative that Putin stole the election.

The US, and particularly the right-wing, have zero to gain from hostility towards Iran. The Iranians will not agree to international control of their nuclear program, until Israel agrees to give up its nukes. (I'm unsure about India/Pakistan)

Breitbart is as hawkish as ever, and Bannon is wrapping himself in the Israeli flag. Nevertheless, he's still being called a Nazi by the left, and could soon face the withdrawal of his funders.

Racists dont want to give them what they want, so various groups have to generate their own.

Of course, no one can come out and declare that it is a false flag right off the bat, because that also generates victim points.

So, are they real? Fake? Real to look fake?

Bannon is getting a wake up on the limits of dissent. The most we can hope for is that the US is allowed to have border controls similar to Israel, and that Bush era foreign policy adventurism is dialed back severely.

  16. In death-of-irony-related news…

My question is, does the left’s willingness to attack Bill Clinton mean that the Clintons are now past the point of being useful to the Democrats–i.e., their time as elected officials is finished?

(BTW, I think Yglesias is still getting it wrong. Clinton’s dalliance with Lewinsky was not of the same kind as the Weinstein-Moore-[Insert Multiple Names Here] scandal. Maybe he should have gotten Hell for some of the other things he did to women, but the Lewinsky scandal was an embarrassment to Republicans as well as Democrats.)

    • Replies: @EdwardM
I think that part of the motivation to throw Bill Clinton under the bus is Donald Trump. The left is gradually (unlike their usual tactic) trying to get us to think "Trump" every time we hear of a sexual harasser/groper/assaulter/rapist/etc. (despite no evidence of this behavior on his part).

Apparently the "yeah but Bill Clinton" serves as somewhat of an effective retort to this, so now the left can try to inoculate themselves. Going all-in on how "Bill Clinton should have resigned" can easily pivot to when they say tomorrow "Trump should resign" over sexual misconduct. It hasn't stuck (among sane people) yet, but they will keep trying. Once they finish with Moore's scalp, I assume they'll try to "revisit" and dig up more on Trump between now and 2020.

I know, one flaw in my theory is that the left generally doesn't care about double standards, but perhaps the Weinstein affair has made their hypocrisy too much to ignore.

  23. In a video that later went viral, Silveria told the assembly of nearly 5,500 students, faculty and staff: “If you can’t treat someone with dignity and respect, Get out!”

Silvera lifted that “Get out!” from Australian Army Chief Lieutenant General David Morrison’s much reported 2013 speech after a (real) incident in the Australian Army involving “unacceptable behavior.”

I don't think he needs the money -- not really -- he seems to have no trouble finding jobs that pay very well -- which reminds me of what Steve Wozniak said after returning to get his degree from UC-Berkeley: 'Now that I have a degree I can go out and get a good paying job'.

Of course, genius goofball Woz was swindled out of his share of the Apple lucre by clever sociopath Jobs. (Not that we have to feel too sorry for him, he’s worth $40 mil or so).

My question is, does the left's willingness to attack Bill Clinton mean that the Clintons are now past the point of being useful to the Democrats--i.e., their time as elected officials is finished?

(BTW, I think Yglesias is still getting it wrong. Clinton's dalliance with Lewinsky was not of the same kind as the Weinstein-Moore-[Insert Multiple Names Here] scandal. Maybe he should have gotten Hell for some of the other things he did to women, but the Lewinsky scandal was an embarrassment to Republicans as well as Democrats.)

I think that part of the motivation to throw Bill Clinton under the bus is Donald Trump. The left is gradually (unlike their usual tactic) trying to get us to think “Trump” every time we hear of a sexual harasser/groper/assaulter/rapist/etc. (despite no evidence of this behavior on his part).

Apparently the “yeah but Bill Clinton” serves as somewhat of an effective retort to this, so now the left can try to inoculate themselves. Going all-in on how “Bill Clinton should have resigned” can easily pivot to when they say tomorrow “Trump should resign” over sexual misconduct. It hasn’t stuck (among sane people) yet, but they will keep trying. Once they finish with Moore’s scalp, I assume they’ll try to “revisit” and dig up more on Trump between now and 2020.

I know, one flaw in my theory is that the left generally doesn’t care about double standards, but perhaps the Weinstein affair has made their hypocrisy too much to ignore.

Getting interesting: Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel on Morehouse College campus was spray-painted with the words “end rape culture."

Signs posted Wednesday throughout the campuses of Morehouse College, a men’s college, and Spelman College, a women’s college, listed names of male students and accused them of rape. Other signs accused Morehouse and Spelman officials of protecting rapists. The signs were later removed by campus police officers. (Morehouse, Spelman, and Clark Atlanta University belong to the Atlanta University Center Consortium, known as the AUC.)

On Thursday morning, the Martin Luther King Jr. Chapel on Morehouse’s campus was spray-painted with the words “Practice what you preach Morehouse + end rape culture." Campus police officers later covered the graffiti with a brown tarp. (November 9, 2017)

    .....sigh!

Speaking of poseurs…while I have not followed the NFL for quite a while, I believe Kaepernick’s decline as an NFL caliber QB was fairly precipitous — so it’s not a coincidence that all of his ‘activism’ only began after it was apparent his future in that job was pretty dim — later, and abetted by a friendly media, it was easy enough for him to find enough convenient pretenses.

He picked up an activisty muslim girlfriend right about the time he hit an air pocket professionally. Had he focused on his career and had some halfway decent QB coaching he might have worked his way through it! He's not untalented.

He also found himself gifted with a substantial contract about that time as well…..sometimes that can cool the competitive fires within!

Trevor Noah does not appear to be Jewish by any accepted definition, religious, ethnic, or otherwise. From Wiki:

Trevor Noah was born on 20 February 1984 in Johannesburg. His mother Patricia Nombuyiselo Noah is black and of Xhosa ethnicity,[7][8][9][10] and his father Robert is white and of Swiss German ethnicity. His parents' relationship was illegal at the time of his birth under apartheid (interracial sexual relations and marriages were legalized under the amended Immorality Act of 1985, a year after Noah was born). His mother was jailed and fined by the South African white minority government[11] [12] and his father later moved back to Switzerland. Noah himself was raised by his mother and maternal grandmother, Nomalizo Frances Noah.[13].When Trevor was 10 or 11 years old, his mother (although not the rest of the family) chose to convert to Judaism.[14] Noah spent his early youth in the private school of Maryvale College, a Catholic school in Johannesburg.[15][16][17] During his childhood, he attended Roman Catholic church every Sunday

Meyers is 1/4 Jewish (paternal grandfather) and does not consider himself Jewish.

    Maher is 1/2 Jewish.

Bannon is getting a wake up on the limits of dissent. The most we can hope for is that the US is allowed to have border controls similar to Israel, and that Bush era foreign policy adventurism is dialed back severely.
On swamp-draining progress, we won’t really know what is feasible till after the 2018 midterms…..
