From the New York Times:

The Case for Reparations
A slow convert to the cause.

By David Brooks
Opinion Columnist

March 7, 2019

… Nearly five years ago I read Ta-Nehisi Coates’s Atlantic article “The Case for Reparations,” with mild disagreement. All sorts of practical objections leapt to mind. What about the recent African immigrants? What about the poor whites who have nothing of what you would call privilege? Do we pay Oprah and LeBron?

But I have had so many experiences over the past year — sitting, for example, with an elderly black woman in South Carolina shaking in rage because the kids in her neighborhood face greater challenges than she did growing up in 1953 — that suggest we are at another moment of make-or-break racial reckoning.

Coates’s essay seems right now, especially this part: “And so we must imagine a new country. Reparations — by which I mean the full acceptance of our collective biography and its consequences — is the price we must pay to see ourselves squarely. … What I’m talking about is more than recompense for past injustices — more than a handout, a payoff, hush money, or a reluctant bribe. What I’m talking about is a national reckoning that would lead to spiritual renewal.”

We’re a nation coming apart at the seams, a nation in which each tribe has its own narrative and the narratives are generally resentment narratives. The African-American experience is somehow at the core of this fragmentation — the original sin that hardens the heart, separates Americans from one another and serves as model and fuel for other injustices.

The need now is to consolidate all the different narratives and make them reconciliation and possibility narratives, in which all feel known. That requires direct action, a concrete gesture of respect that makes possible the beginning of a new chapter in our common life. Reparations are a drastic policy and hard to execute, but the very act of talking about and designing them heals a wound and opens a new story.

Obviously, in Brooks’ conception, reparations aren’t intended to work in any real world sense. The point of Brooks “concrete gesture of respect” is that a really futile and stupid gesture of inchoate religious symbolism be done on white people’s part by setting fire to a giant pile of money.

But being concrete-minded myself and oriented toward starting from examples rather than abstractions, I’m fascinated by the practical questions of who gets how much. Which of the following people should get 100% share of Reparations and which should get a smaller share, and what percentage should each get, from 0% to 100%?

Facing greater challenges than in ’53? Hmm…perhaps that ought to make us reevaluate the civil rights movement.

But no. If you’re a neocon like Brooks the March of Progress only took a bad turn around the time of the Six-Day War, and not a minute sooner. Which means we have to do the civil rights thing again and again, unto the crack of doom.

If financial reparations are about setting right the moral-wrong of forced existence in North America, shouldn’t they also be tied to repatriation of Blacks back to the motherland of West Africa?

In other words, how about this reparation plan:

    – $10,000 lump sum, plus
    – $350/month for 120 months, in exchange for
    – renouncing U.S. citizenship and emigrating

An agreement could be set up with Liberia [pop.: 4.5 million] which, on top of the above, would include

    – free one-way airfare to Monrovia, and
    – help placing repatriatees in housing and jobs.

Liberia would get large-scale U.S. infrastructure investment in exchange for taking a few million U.S. Blacks. (Note: Liberia population density today is 130/sq. mi. to Israel’s 1,000+ per sq. mi.) (To reach Israel’s density, Liberia would need 45 million people; 4.5 million are currently resident there, leaving lots of potential space.)

This would be a serious reparations plan.

How would Black Americans do in Liberia? — Liberia’s per capita GDP at PPP is $110/month, meaning that these U.S. Black colonists would immediately be members of the Liberian upper class in SES terms even if they took with them no assets at all beyond the above reparations money. Any U.S. Blacks taking some degree of assets beyond said reparation money would be members of the Liberian top elite in SES terms.

  20. Giannis is a refugee from Greece’s Golden Dawn regime, whom, I believe, control all of their government. He is entitled to at least a 100% reparations share. Possibly more because of Trump’s xenophobic anti-refugee rhetoric. Jussie is of course entitled to a 200% share — he’s a twofer (if not a threefer). Kamala should get a 50% share of US reparations and possibly a chunk from our friends across the pond because of colonialist oppression.

  21. Lot says:

Related problem: even if Oprah and Tiger got full shares, they still would be net losers because any way to fund reparations-taxes, inflation, deficit spending-would hurt them more than the reparation payment itself is worth.

I think the only fair way to do reparations is start with the earliest historical slavery and work forward. Thus, time for Egyptians and Babylonians to pay reparations to Jews. In place of actual cash payments, they may accept the enrichment and diversity of Gaza’s population by annexing it.

  22. Colonizers from Africa genocided my Neanderthal ancestors in Europe. How much do I get?

  23. Reparations: Sure! Reparation would include a one-way ticket to the ancestral homeland and a $10,000 grubstake but only if the recipient repudiates his US citizenship and promises never to return. Additional funds will of course be needed to bribe the current leaders of the ancestral homelands into accepting this wretched refuse from our teeming shores.

I’d estimate the total per capita cost, including travel, processing, bribes, etc., to be something under $20,000. There are about 40,000,000 Negroes in this country now. So the total cost for reparations shouldn’t exceed $800 billion, about 20% of the current federal budget. This would be an extraordinary bargain if it would rid us of these people and the problems associated with them.

Of course, this reparations program would obviate the need for affirmative action and many other such programs, designed by progs to make progs feel good about themselves. The immediate elimination of such programs as well as the problems associated with a dysfunctional Negro underclass should result in savings that will pay many times over for the program’s cost within a decade or so. The elimination of these programs will be an essential part of the program, incentivizing Negroes to accept reparation/repatriation. After ten years or so the program could be discontinued and any remaining Negroes could be told to stop bellyaching and behave themselves.

I’ve been traveling around the country for the past few years studying America’s divides — urban/rural, red/blue, rich/poor. There’s been a haunting sensation the whole time that is hard to define. It is that the racial divide doesn’t feel like the other divides. There is a dimension of depth to it that the other divides don’t have. It is more central to the American experience.

MMMM, well, ya know, the Israelis have a solution to those kinds of divisions…..It’s called the dual-state solution….Maybe you could ask your son to look into it, perhaps while he’s on furlough from the IDF….

One way to capture it is to say that the other divides are born out of separation and inequality, but the racial divide is born out of sin. We don’t talk about sin much in the public square any more. But I don’t think one can grasp the full amplitude of racial injustice without invoking the darkest impulses of human nature.

Yup, sometimes ya gotta look square into the face of racial injustice….

First, there is a natural moral order to the universe.

Sure. For example, take a gander at parasitoid wasps….

There is a way things are supposed to be — more important than economic wealth or even a person’s life.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m not talking about Jewish wealth or Jewish lives……

History has meaning. It’s not just random events.

And the meaning of the Mongol Conquests is….Anyone? Anyone?

Third, sin is anything that assaults the moral order. Slavery doesn’t merely cause pain and suffering to the slave. It is a corruption that infects the whole society. It is a collective debt that will have to be paid.

    Bad news for Mauritania…..

Fourth, sin travels down society through the centuries.

    Really bad news for Brazil….

From these thoughts we can appreciate the truth that while there have been many types of discrimination in our history, the African-American (and the Native American) experiences are unique and different. Theirs are not immigrant experiences but involve a moral injury that simply isn’t there for other groups.

Nice of you to remember Amerinds…..

Slavery and the continuing pattern of discrimination aren’t only an attempt to steal labor; they are an attempt to cover over a person’s soul, a whole people’s soul.

Do babies in the womb have a soul?

That injury shows up today as geographic segregation,

Ya might want to ask your son to look into housing policies in Israel….

    the gigantic wealth gap,

Gotta find a way to close the Black-East Asian wealth gap…

the lack of a financial safety net, but also the lack of the psychological and moral safety net that comes when society has a history of affirming: You belong. You are us. You are equal.

I take it that you haven’t watched any films made since, oh, Sidney Poitier won an Oscar….

But I have had so many experiences over the past year — sitting, for example, with an elderly black woman in South Carolina shaking in rage because the kids in her neighborhood face greater challenges than she did growing up in 1953

Whoa, whoah! That’s verging on thoughtcrime buddy! Arguing that Blacks had it better under Jim Crow…..

We’re a nation coming apart at the seams, a nation in which each tribe has its own narrative and the narratives are generally resentment narratives. The African-American experience is somehow at the core of this fragmentation — the original sin

This is the real story, and something that honest sociologists would do well to unpack. What was the situation of black men, let’s say, in the Jim Crow South versus black men in the US overall today? Murder rates, incarceration rates, employment rates, percentage of births out of wedlock? This isn’t a rhetorical question; I’m genuinely curious, and every time I try to find this data I can never really get to the bottom of it.

In contextualizing this story Gross asserted that Trump and Hillary were “neck and neck” in the polls. She does not specify which polls. Those must be some less commonly studied and discussed polls because the ones I had to hear about every twenty minutes on the same NPR where Gross works all insisted that Trump had absolutely no chance.

Probably a lot less than in the USA, anyway.

Life in a good area of Monrovia is going to be expensive by Liberia standards but probably still several times cheaper than an equivalent lifestyle in the USA.

The rest of Liberia is going to be a lot cheaper: A room in the premier hotel in Liberia’s second city, Buchanan, is (for ex.) only $23/night. By comparison, places along Tubman Blvd in Monrovia are several times that.

Large parts of the interior are probably so cheap (a few hundred dollars an acre) as to be almost free by U.S. standards. It is also going to be comparatively safe now that the civil war is over. Ripe for homesteading.

Sadly for the unknown woman David spoke to she is probably represented by the Honorable Jim Clyburn, who while defending Representative Omar, said (according to The Hill) “Her experience, Clyburn argued, is much more empirical — and powerful — than that of people who are generations removed from the Holocaust, Japanese internment camps during World War II and the other violent episodes that have marked history. ”

To quote (((David Brooks))) ” but the racial divide is born out of sin.” Congressman Clyburn, a Christian, understands that Jesus died for our sins. No reparations for you, until the anti-semitism of Ms. Omar blows over (or blows up the party).

That’s a puzzler K because, if as you propose we re-institute slavery to pay reparations to non-blacks who have had to put up with all this complaining and violence from the one group that never earns any right to complain about squat, and this list illustrates examples of actual reparations, it’s not clear to me that anybody would want any of them. What actual work would you get out of them in a world where fake white collar careers for underachievers had been eliminated? Besides, the answer would obviously be expulsion and not re-enslavement. Hmmm. Maybe I’d take OJ just because I feel bad for him, everything he went through, I mean, who did he kill to — oh, right.

The talented tenth and the next tenth down are doing better than they were under Jim Crow but blacks at the center of the IQ curve-most underclass inner city blacks-are doing a lot worse. Under Jim Crow the violence against blacks from all sources was much less than the inner city violence rate today. The (relatively) few really dangerous blacks died at the end of a rope or from a policeman’s ‘warning shot’ or just disappeared one night, shot and fed to pigs or buried with some hot lime under Farmer Brown’s crop. Most of the sort of blacks that make up the gangs today just didn’t dare to screw up very badly, they knew it would end badly and promptly. The smarter blacks with a rebellious streak headed north.

Jim Crow was really the best system the South could come up with, and it worked about as well as anything else could have.

And with fuzzy math and President Jebkushner in power, the sum is likely headed up.

Smaller sums are also due to Jordan and Egypt in related arrangements. Each of these pay-offs are about a third of the Israel tribute in value. Depending on how fuzzy the math is and how far Jebkushner rounds up, it all could amount to $100 billion by the mid-late 2020s when all is said and done. (Plus the enormous costs of maintaining U.S. forces in the region now than President Jebkushner has reneged on his promise to depart Syria.)

Economists calculate the cost of just reparations at estimates that range between one and 14 trillion dollars. For reference, the federal budget for 2019 is 4.407 trillions.

So let’s put it at a cool $15 trill–because Native Americans, LGBTQers, are definitely going to get in on that action.

Couple that with AOC’s* Green Deal, and
    Free College for All, and
    Free Childcare for All, and
    Free Health Care for All.

A lot of naysayers claim that our ability to fund this is unrealistic. That’s just another Trump Trope. With an effective tax rate slightly above 1,200%, it gets done in less than 600 years. Sure, it gets tougher to collect the taxes over and above 100% of a person’s income, but we can just roll-over the remaining 1,100%, and compound that amount accordingly. Vox is coming out with an important article that will explain this entire plan in more detail.

    Make no mistake–this is doable.

“We should do everything we can to encourage talk of reparations. Once the call for reparations grows loud enough and broad enough, we can finally ask what the final number will be. When will reparations be complete?”

We should do no such thing. Guys who push that think they are being smart, but they aren’t. People aren’t going to do a calculation in their heads and then come to the conclusion that “nope, reparations is a bad idea.” People are fundamentally emotional, not logical – especially blacks. Only a white guy could think that would ever work.

Here’s what would actually happen if we did what you suggest: some GOP cuck in the senate – with full backing from the controlled media and the democrat party – would institute some kind of POC tax rebate or something…but then over time the number would keep getting higher and higher as the POC coalition (then the permanent majority due to immigration) votes itself more free goodies at your expense; within just one generation, you’ll have a POC universal basic income that hampers the economy in the face of Chinese competition; and like Affirmative Action, there will be no reversing it once it gets started.

Think this is impossible? It isn’t because George W. Bush did something very similar to that when he was president. He combined forces with favorable media and Ted Kennedy to push through a ridiculously unwise program to get poor minorities into homes they couldn’t otherwise afford. Did those people stop to consider that encouraging Wall Street to give home loans to poor minorities was a bad idea? Did they ever stop to consider that these loans perhaps couldn’t be paid back? Nope. Emotionalism and dogma trumped reason and logic. That program lead to a massive housing crisis in 2008, the origin of which has been obscured by the media. Exactly the same thing would happen here with reparations.

  139. @Rich

Blacks in America should be paying reparations to the descendants of the soldiers who fought in the war that led to their freedom. A portion of every check blacks get should go these families who made such a great sacrifice with so little reward. Why are blacks so incapable of showing appreciation to the White families of the men who set them free?

Not only did my ancestors fight, bleed, and die to set the negroes free, they later invited the negroes into our world-leading industrial North to partake in the riches both earned (jobs) and unearned (social welfare). The negroes were given jobs in industries they had no hand in creating, accommodations in civilized cities they had no role in building, and their children education in schools having curriculum about 10,000 years more advanced than anything the negroes had ever contemplated. And yet not only were we repaid with rampant destruction, theft, rape, wanton violence and murder, we are today told the profoundly ungrateful negroes deserve reparations because they weren’t invited to live in our neighborhoods but were merely given their own to do with as they pleased.

Had my ancestors any hint that this would be the outcome, I have no doubt they’d have chosen to sit out that ruinous war and let our southern cousins do as they pleased with their farm laborers.

It is undemocratic and unpatriotic to label the minor cost of a highly popular alliance…

There are times when I wonder if these neocons are trolls. The way this line is phrased is exactly like the way we alt-righters speak when we do an impression of a dishonest, manipulative Jew. The same strange cadence. The legalistic verbosity. The total lack of empathy for goyim. The insistence on giving the goyim nothing and taking everything for the tribe. The completely fanatical ethnocentrism and obsession with micromanaging how goyim think.

    • Replies: @Lot

This isn’t a terrible analysis, though–like all of Brooks kumbaya stuff–obviously incomplete. The first sentence at least is spot on.

But Brooks is never honest about key questions. Like: “why does everyone have a resentment narrative?”

The short answer is because the Jews have propagandized and propagated a broad minority resentment narrative. (Racist white goyim are oppressing you!) Replacing the traditional American narrative of English settlement and founding, heroic pioneers and settlers and a melting pot of assimilation of immigrants to traditional American norms, values and culture.

And we are coming apart because that minority grievance is the ideological “order of day” and into which the Jews also have insisted we bring–and indoctrinate in minoritarianism–new and larger minority populations.

In fairness to Brooks, he does here make a nod in the vague direction of logical truth–the fact that the Jewish narrative is basically bullshit, that immigrant groups have fundamentally *nothing* to complain about. (If they don’t want to adapt to someone else’s culture–don’t come! If they don’t like it–go home!)

From these thoughts we can appreciate the truth that while there have been many types of discrimination in our history, the African-American (and the Native American) experiences are unique and different. Theirs are not immigrant experiences but involve a moral injury that simply isn’t there for other groups.

But what Brooks is unwilling to come to terms with–or at least do–is take his fellow Jews to task for their stoking resentments and nation wrecking. He hinted at the fact that America has done worse under its new and “diverse” (i.e. Jewish) overlords in a column maybe ten years back. But Brooks can’t quite “go there”.

A clear headed analysis of the problem Brooks cites would suggest that the core “fix” is simply to reverse what the Jews have done. Throw out Jewish minoritarianisn and everything starts to get better–way better.

In particular “healing” would require a public ideology that acknowledges the following:

    — America is an Anglo-Saxon project. Anglo values and culture informed the founding and are the “American core”. And as such America is foundationally and fundamentally part of Western Christian civilization. And it can not be any sort of “nation” outside of that.

    — America is a great place because of … white guys! That Anglo culture and values along with the hard work of white guys is why American is free, law-abiding, peaceful and prosperous nation, that all Americans get to enjoy. Living the good life in America, thank a white guy!

    — Different peoples have different natural endowments, different skills sets, because of their long evolutionary history–biological and cultural–in different environments. Even in the complete absence of discrimination different people and different groups of people will not behave the same nor have the same outcomes.

    — Diversity is not a strength. Diversity generally creates conflict and resentment. It’s what we share in common–language, religion, holidays, culture, norms, values–that bind us together and help make us strong.

    — All people generally like to live amongst those who share their same culture and values. This is natural. It is not evil. You can call it “racist”, but then “racist” just means “normal preference for the familiar, for your own”.

    — And people are entitled to freely decide to do so. Live around people they are comfortable with, work for and with people they are comfortable with, associate with people they are comfortable with–freedom of association. Yes, that means there is discrimination. But that is not “oppression”. You are not entitled to other people’s good will nor their stuff.

    — Black Americans have had a legitimately tougher road. Their ancestors being brought–rather than coming voluntarily–as slaves. And then many blacks lived under some state-sponsored discrimination, which is different than discrimination of the free choices of individuals. Blacks can take legitimate pride in soldiering through these burdens.

However, this is long in the past. Black Americans lagging economic performance is largely due to their own capabilities and behavior, not anything whites or other Americans imposed on them. And to the extent that other Americans have negative opinions of blacks and do not wish to associate with them, that is largely because of black behavior, principally blacks very high rates of violent crime. As a group blacks lag other Americans in economic performance, but blacks are far, far better off in America than their distant relations in Africa. The main beneficiary of American slavery is … American blacks.

As to improving blacks’ economic and social position whites have already tried numerous “programs”–integration, welfare, set asides, quotas and affirmative action–and spent trillions. Improving black behavior, capability and success is simply not something that is within the power of whites, or other Americans to do. Black improvement must come from blacks.

    — Native Americans lost the most in the Anglo-white conquest of America. They lost their nations, which is indeed a precious thing. But we must acknowledge that they were indeed “nations”. Not one people, but many and often in violent conflict–killing and conquering each other. Native Americans can be justly proud of their heritage. And we should all celebrate it as part of American fabric. However, for losing their nations, individual Native Americans are better off in material terms because of the white conquest, with access to technology and prosperity far beyond what their ancestors had or would have developed for themselves for thousands of years.

We can provide additional opportunities for Native Americans wishing to integrate into mainstream American life. The state and improvement of Natives living in their own tribal communities must be driven by Natives themselves–not something other Americans can impose.

    — We are *not* a “nation of immigrants”. Our founders were not immigrants. The vast majority of Americans who have lived and live now are not immigrants. The highlight of American history is not immigration, but being settlers and pioneers, inventors and builders. Most of all we are not “the world”. Americans are a particular people with our own particular history and culture.

    — No one is entitled to come to America. Americans–like the peoples of all nations–are entitled to maintain their borders and determine whom–if anyone–we let in. Choosing to let in some people whom we find more racially or culturally or religiously compatible or congenial and excluding others–e.g. Chinese exclusion–is not “immoral” or “unjust” or “wrong”. Rather it is both good sense and the fundamental right of every people in the world, the fundamental right of every nation. The natural default for immigration is zero. The fundamental tenet of any nation is to preserve itself intact for its posterity–as our Constitution notes. Nations that fail to do this die.

    — No one from an immigrant group should have any resentment about their group’s treatment in America–rather they should have “gratitude” they were allowed to settle here. If America wasn’t “a better deal” then they or their ancestors should not have come and or should have returned home. Americans were\are under no obligation to welcome immigrants nor adapt to them. Rather the reverse. Immigrants who come should expect to adapt to America’s language, culture, norms and values. If immigrants or their descendants don’t find America congenial, don’t like America and Americans, don’t want to integrate to American culture and norms, then they should leave and return to their native lands.

Immigrants and their descendants should appreciate that America is a nice–free and prosperous–place not because of some sort of “magic dirt” but precisely because of the culture and hard work of American’s conquering, founding and building core of Euro-white gentiles. If they don’t believe so or have resentment of this American core who built the nation, they should leave.

    — A moratorium on immigration. America has more than enough people. And American has way, way, way more than enough diversity. What America needs now is an end to further balkanization and a chance for Americans to come together, with our jobs, land, prosperity and freedom kept for ourselves. America is for “ourselves and our posterity”.

There. If Brooks will say that, he’d be saying something–offering a big dose of reality and logic and a solution. If America’s public was turned around to become that, then we could begin to come together and our fractures would indeed begin to heal.

But the first requirement in any healing is repudiating Jewish minoritarianism and its cancerous culture of cultivating minority resentment while balkanizing the nation with more immigration.

I’d say it’s death, taxes and Jewish whining about “anti-Semitism”. But hey Krugman and i are at least close.

    ~~

I readily admit i don’t know much about this Richard Spencer character and his group that was at Charlottesville protesting the removal of the Confederate statues and presumably waving the white banner. There is so much open media lying about Charlottesville, taking their account for anything surrounding this at face value is ridiculous. However, i’ll admit that since these guys were explicitly pro-white, whatever their actual beliefs they qualify as anti-Semities for mainstream purposes.

But let’s look at the two sides respective asks:

    Charlottesville white identitarians and “anti-Semities”:
    — want to live in a white culture
    — want to have their white heroes
    — don’t want their nation flooded with foreigners
    — don’t want to be bossed around by Jews like Krugman

Do they demand Jews be put in camps? No. Do they expect blacks or Jews to work for them? No. They simply want to be able to live as white men in communities with their own white norms.

    Krugman and Jews:
    — white are racist, oppressors, the source of evil
    — white rule of America is illegitimate
    — white heros and culture must be “dismantled”–torn down
    — white’s must accept their evilness and do pennace and pay reparations to minorities
    — whites must accept being bossed around by Jews–no complaining about it!
    — white must accept … more immigration!
    — essentially whites must give up their nations

In short, the Charlottesville whites–labelled by the media as “white supremacists” are making no demands upon the lives or labor of Jews, blacks or anyone else. They just want to be left alone to live as whites. The normal desire of pretty much all peoples.

Whereas the Krugman\Jewish demand is that whites give up their nations and submit–their lives and labor–to the rule of other people for the benefit of other people.

Who is actually oppressing the other? Who is actually trying to enslave the other?
Who are the real “supremacists” here?

This is a great fantasy but I think the ship sailed on this being possible in the US a long time ago (if it EVER was) let alone in 2019 where white are well on the way to becoming a minority. Hell, the Anglo-Saxons aren’t even in charge of Angle-land anymore, let alone the US.

Maybe if WWII had never happened and Lindbergh had been elected President in ’40 or ’44 and instituted some kind of peace with Nazi Germany, the Minneapolis model of marginalizing all non-Anglo Saxons might have spread and taken hold. But the war did happen and I don’t think that your fantasy was ever possible let alone being possible today. Post war you had not only the specter of the Holocaust putting racism into bad odor but also black, Jews and other minorities had been enlisted in the war effort with the implicit promise of equality – if you were good enough to die for America, you were good enough to live in it as an equal.

This reads like some kind of Aryan wet dream – whatever America’s future is going to be like, it ain’t gonna be like that.

In short, the Charlottesville whites–labelled by the media as “white supremacists” are making no demands upon the lives or labor of Jews, blacks or anyone else. They just want to be left alone to live as whites

Someone in the thread on the pro-Jewish, pro-Muslim, pro-Everyone But Whites Resolution (passed unanimously by the House except for 27 Republican heretics) said that knowing something about the degree and brazenness of media distortion of Charlottesville makes one wonder about past historical events of comparable kind.

    (See Joe Sweet’s comment there.)

The resolution contains Jussie Smollett-level, weak and lazy fantasy bearing as little relation to reality as Jussie’s crude hoax of late. But the low-info masses believe the Charlotessville narrative because it is megaphoned at them. President Jebkushner himself, in a somewhat early slipping of the mask, condemned political prisoner James Fields to death the next day, just going on CNN’s word. “It’s only a question of whether it was just murder or whether it was terrorism plus murder; I’ll let the courts decide that,” said President Jebkushner.

That’s a doomed strategy in the end. I think a better, more realistic and achievable, strategy is to begin the conversation over partitioning the country into separate halves. At least with that option, we already have a modicum of infrastructure in place: local and state republican administrative bodies. I can’t say exactly how the division should take place (state or country) but starting the conversation could set the stage at a future date.

  199. @Rich

“Blacks in America should be paying reparations to the descendants of the soldiers who fought in the war that led to their freedom.”

Since the war was not about freeing slaves, you have missed the mark and missed it entirely.

I am not sure where I stand on reparations. This is an old issue. It’s not new. It’s been around since the quasi-proffer concerning the much referenced 40 acres and a mule.

The practical questions are indeed an issue. But they are not as vague as noted by this offer. There has been considerable research on this issue and several proposals (?) estimates about what reparations might look like. But the foundation of those are based on the records of slaves, which no doubt would have some missing ancestries, but what apparently has taken these researchers by surprise (an the lectures I have heard – the researchers were all white) because the records are very detailed.

As for the justification — sigh, it’s always frustrating listening to the complaints, because “petition for redress is a constitutional principle written in black and white. And as noted by the author the matter is practical. But one as the article indicates whites will always find ways to bend whatever redress to their own benefit – hence the observation to gather all of the issues into a single bundle.

I am not sure we can ever get passed the matter of color, it is so deep a wound and serves as weapon for the dominant society at large in so many ways I am unconvinced that it will ever be entangled. The other problem with Mr. Brook’s analysis is that it’s targeted to salve the wounds of blacks so as to reduce tensions. And here is where I have to frown, because the history of this country is that “whites” have the wounds most reflected in anger, and animosity to action. Sure there are angry black people and the dominant color of society has very effectively play out “angry black people” more importantly “angry black men” by which to enforce extrajudicial use of force and effectively leverage women, even black women to keep the black male beat in line. That has been very effective and remains so. But the truth is that the most violence has been that of whites against blacks, Mr. Kersey’s count downs withstanding.

Whatever the original agenda of the civil rights agenda of the 1950’s for equity and access, by 1967, it was hijacked by young white college student activists that largely benefited whites and had little to do with the direct concerns of blacks. And Dr./Rev. Martin Luther King, should never have lent a word of support for it.

I am absolutely convinced that importing a bunch of browns, yellows, reds, greens or whites is not the solution.

It’s been reported that the USA is on the hook for $38 billion in cumulative tribute payments to Israel, due in full between now and the mid-late 2020s.

The previous appropriation called out a specific amount for the military subsidy. The current one calls out a “not less than” amount, so it could increase even above the current (I believe) $3.8 billion per year. It is interesting too, that these appropriations are for ten years. The budgets of US government agencies are determined yearly or bi-yearly. But for our scrappy little sidekick country in the middle-east, the funding appears to be locked in for ten years. I don’t know if it still requires annual or bi-annual appropriations to actually fund it.

Are you saying no one in the North was against slavery? Are you actually saying that there wasn’t a very powerful part of Northern society that wanted to free the slaves? Really? And regardless of whether you believe slavery had anything to do with the War Between the States, in the end, it was because of this war that the slaves were freed. Since these soldiers were responsible for the slaves being freed, the lucky descendants of these freed slaves owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the descendants of these men. In fact, I’m amazed it takes a White fellow like me to point this out, since every day in the media, on television and in the movies, we’re shown again and again what a magnanimous people these descendants of black slaves are. They should, finally, pay their debt.

In short, the Charlottesville whites–labelled by the media as “white supremacists” are making no demands upon the lives or labor of Jews, blacks or anyone else. They just want to be left alone to live as whites.

Once again they deliberately conflate separatism with supramacism. It seems like most of the Whites who are in these rallies are advocating for Whites living in their own places. None are suggesting non-Whites be killed, put into camps, or work as slaves or low-wage servants. I suppose their great crime is suggesting non-Whites not be allowed access to Whites which apparently is a bigger crime then the aforementioned.

Meanwhile the opponents of these Whites are the ones who insist on speaking on behalf of non-Whites and intervening as much as possible in their lives. They seem to derive a sense of satisfaction in looking out for non-Whites like humans do in taking care of a pet. Additionally these good Whites don’t want anyone to interrupt their steady supply of low-wage, non-White labor and renters which might adversely affect their net worth.

Who are the bad ones again?

Another way to envision separatist versus supremacist is to look at the Amish. The Amish live separately in their own communities and seem to mind their own business. They will interact with outsiders by selling produce and furniture. But they don’t want to live among outsiders, or allow outsiders to live among them. Does anyone really think the Amish are supremacists? Or are they just wanting to preserve their way of life?

Great, collective punishment to pay for original sin. Sounds like a plan.

For Brooks this original sin is also at the core of the treatment of the Amerindians, the Mexicans, the Chinese, the Jews… what he meant to say is “Whiteness is the original sin.” No matter how many reparations are paid, it can never be erased.

The African-American experience is somehow at the core of this fragmentation — the original sin that hardens the heart, separates Americans from one another and serves as model and fuel for other injustices.

White original sin causes this hardening and division. Blacks and all other ethnic groups are free to practice as much bigotry as they choose with no negative effects: no societal sin.

I agree with the others above: anyone who wants reparations needs to leave; anyone staying needs to move on to that “new chapter in our common life”. No more affirmative action, no more racial quotas and preferences, no more immigrant worship, no more minority bigotry accepted as a moral reaction to white sin. Accept America’s history or go make Wakanda or whatever somewhere else.

  223. @Mr. Anon

And yet American’s future can end up being a Jewish wet dream – multicultural empire with no clear ethnic majority, dedicated to the support of Israel.

    Funny how that works out.

I think you’re projecting your pet theories onto Jews. Unfortunately, those theories have little to do with reality. In many ways, Israelis are even more SJW than Americans. At least we put terrorists to death. It takes decades, but we eventually give them the needle. Whereas Israelis imprison them, then trade hundreds of them for solitary Jews kidnapped by Arabs. And many of the traded Arab murderers go on to kill Jews all over again, either directly or as leaders of terrorist units.

Jews understand that if there’s one demographic that dislikes Jews more than Europeans, it’s non-Europeans, to whom Jews are just the most grasping of the White Oppressors(TM). The idea that Jews want a multicultural America because they think it will bolster American support for Israel is counter-intuitive. The big thing among non-Europeans is the idea that the European conquest and settlement of non-European lands is an atrocity, whereas the non-European conquest and settlement of European lands is just the natural order of things. They view Israeli Jews as illegitimate European conquerors and occupiers of non-European land.

American Jews aren’t stupid. What they have, in common with many non-Jewish Americans, are Eloi-like tendencies. They are like the open borders libertarians (e.g. the Catholic Koch brothers) who haven’t thought through the political implications of open borders in societies where every man has a vote, and the fact that people from foreign lands and cultures (including recent European emigres, who are far to the left of the average white American) vote the way people would in the old country, i.e. usually way left of libertarian ideals.

While Jews are individually very smart, they can collectively be very stupid. That may account for the reason that the Jewish nation was repeatedly destroyed by conquerors who drove big chunks of its population into exile.

Before I get to your questions, let’s get address some of your false assertions that are either straw men arguments or begging the question and possible both at the same time. I made no contentions that the war was not caused by slavery. There is little doubt that the issue of slavery was why the South mistakenly fired on Fort Sumter. But minus the effort dragging out as long as it did slavery would have remained in place. Pres. Lincoln made it clear , maintaining the union was his primary concern. And no doubt we have set about making a lot of the war to free the slaves, but that was not the intent of Pres. Lincolns response. And it’s been the boon of self congratulatory propaganda that men dies to free slaves, but point of fact, they fought to maintain the union. Look at it this way, most slaves just walked off the plantations. Had the war been to free the slaves within three years the North could have essentially declared victory and moved on. But slavery was a feature, not a purpose. That record of of popular propaganda to assuage the matter of slavery to conscience is nothing than than that “propaganda” so white northerners could feel better about themselves. The proclamation is a sweet twist of political gamesmanship that had no legal binding force or we would not have required the 13th and 14th amendments. But what is telling is that what the proclamation actually said. In short, no county, region or state that was not in rebellion could retain slavery as a way of life. The reason it read that way in because the cause was to keep the union together — if every single slave had walked off or stayed put, the war to enforce the supremacy clause would still been engaged . . . and the firing on Fort Sumter, would have treated as an act or war and treason to which the response was war.

The north had no plans, no goal and no intent to free the slaves prior top the election of Pres. Lincoln nor afterwards. The war was fought to enforce the Constitution of the US and in response to an act of war – the attack against Fort Sumter.

    Response to your questions,

Most of the North was ambivelant about slavery, there were abolitionists and plenty thought the practice abhorent, but hardly enough to make war over or change the law. And had the president of the US attempted to go to war over slavery, he’d have been treated to a pine rail and he new it.

“Strawman”— I made no such suggestion, much less such an argument. There were abolitionists throughout the country, the most vehement lived in Ks.

You are taking some liberties with my comments by inserting falsehoods about what I said. The war occupied enough effort for slaves to walk off plantations — and checking the record is was not uncommon for the union troops to do nothing regarding their being rounded up by white southerners or in several instances murdered.

“In fact, I’m amazed it takes a White fellow like me to point this out, since every day in the media, on television and in the movies, we’re shown again and again what a magnanimous people these descendants of black slaves are. They should, finally, pay their debt.”

Apparently you haven’t a clue what you are talking about. But you do exhibit my point beautifully. While skin color has no bearing on this discussion and i have o idea why you raise it — it doesn’t matter what your color is or what you suppose my color is — the record on the civil war is in my view pretty clear. But most importantly, is this notion that blacks ought to grateful that after four hundred years blacks were set free, by accident or happenstance. I won’t speak to that because blacks will have to decide for themselves about how beholden they should be.

It is a very sad and distasteful sentiment, and I admit, in my youth I too felt as you did. Until I was confronted with the flip side. That it took the country, the north if you choose to do the right thing, and yet “doing the right thing” to coin the phrase had nothing to do with it, it was for all intensive purposes an after thought. And it is that inconvenient after thought that maintained policies of discrimination and its consequence to this day.

At the end of the day you are making an cliche insult,

“Gave black people freedom and the vote, they should be grateful.”

Your grasp of then historical record of how blacks were treated as citizens is showing and its as deep and void as any “black hole.” We honor the dead of the civil war because they fought to maintain the union and in so doing, provided an escape clause to end slavery (sort of – I have no doubt you won’t grasp my meaning).

Nothing in my comments demonstrates any lack of respect for the struggle over what it meant to be a nation. Your suggestion that is both a strawman and begging the question.

Your demand that I be politically correct is rejected and rejected without reservation.

You as white man — that’s rich. Laughing.

The thought at the time was that foreign aid was becoming unpopular and that aid to Israel might get caught up in that. So if aid to Israel could be budgeted with the defense department money, it would be better protected.

I don’t know if they ever followed through on that. But the point is they are not going to cut aid to Israel and will look for innovative ways to protect it.

We should subsidize a factory to build labor intensive antique aircraft in Egypt. I worked on a project to have a sheltered workshop hiring actual, genuine Morons, Imbeciles and Idiots (these are proper medical terms) to build Tiger Moths-we could get access to the type certificate through the FAA’s onetime largesse to actor Cliff Robertson, saving the million dollar cost of getting a TCDS on a new design, and the Czechs still made the Walter Minor inverted inline 4.

I figure the average Egyptian or Jordanian isn’t any less intelligent, it’s very labor intensive, and what is “unskilled” labor in Egypt, $2 an hour? Import the planes to the US and use them for Civil Air Patrol training and military Aero Clubs.

The Egyptians are famous for making cotton cloth so they should be able to mill genuine Grade A Cotton aircraft fabric, and wood suitable for the structure should be locally sourceable, except the Sitka spruce for the spars. The elephant in the room. The sudden capital injection of at most a few thousand dollars per person (otherwise the numbers become simply impossible in scale) into the African-American population (assuming you can come out alive after deciding on a standard of who exactly that includes in the margins) will absolutely make no dent in the social and wealth gap. — inter-ethnic marriages
    — Protestant-Catholic rift fading — Kennedy elected (sort of)
    — common “culture” on TV — most popular shows being Westerns, America’s heroic mythology
    — new shared suburban common American identity

Ok, sure, hadn’t solved the black issue–that’s biological, not within reach but
    — de-jure segregation dismantled, or being dismantled
    — blacks behaviing as white, as middle class–highest marriage, legitimacy (75%), lowest crime–as ever before or, unfortunately, since

    And
    — low immigration
    — ergo lots of job opportunity
    — lots of patriotism
    — lots of faith in a bright common American future

    ~~

Some wet dream huh? It was actually within our grasp.

Of course, what we didn’t know at the time is that the cultural arbiters, and soon ideological and institutional leaders would be people who just love–who just bathe in–ethnic resentment. (Like at some German-American Lutherans and Catholics in Minneapolis being tribal–i.e.. acting like the Jews!)

I’d love it if this were true. Because then we’d see a reaction, political to end the nonsense or martial to separate and have a real American nation again.

    But it’s not there.

Sure, lots of people see–out of the corner of their eye–something like the rabid Covington Boys denunciation, and think “what a bunch of loons”. But then they go on with their lives–their job, getting the groceries, making sure the kids do their homework so they can get into “a good school”.

And the media is forever working away, propagandizing that the looniness they see isn’t really looniness–or they didn’t see it–and anyway they should accept their blood guilt for the crimes of their ancestors that created their unearned white privilege and appreciate diversity!

    Excellent point, Blanc.

All this “things haven’t gotten better” rhetoric should immediately generate a response.

Unless Jim Crow wasn’t a big deal at all, it’s obvious that opportunities for blacks are far, far superior than they were in the ’50s.

So one or both of the following must be true:
    — blacks just don’t seem capable of taking advantage of improved opportunities due to some deep, ingrained biological or cultural deficiency
    or
    — the whole “progressive” social regime that the liberal establishment put in place is actually detrimental to blacks getting their act together and moving ahead.

(In fact, both are true. As Steve pointed out “let the good times roll” is very poor guidance for blacks.)

I realize this is logical reasoning, not really a “black thing”. But nonetheless worth repeating every time this “just as bad now” trope surfaces.

  291. Why not give reparations to blacks. But in return re-implement freedom of association, have an immigration moratorium for 25 years, and stop all funding to institutions that push anti-whiteness. .

The Commission believes that an outstanding characteristic of the United States is its great cultural diversity within an overriding national unity….
Our immigration policy with respect to particular national or racial groups, will inevitably be taken as an indication of our general attitude toward them, especially as an indication of our appraisal of their standing in the world. It will, therefore, shape their attitude toward us and toward many of our other policies…
The major disruptive influence in our immigration law is the racial and national discrimination caused by the national origins system…
The nature of the new law was thoroughly unmasked by the Congressmen in their debates on the bill. They stressed that the new immigration-restriction bill is very similar to the Nazi theory of racial superiority….
For example, I have on a number of occasions been embarrassed by Asiatic people who have questioned me about the quota system, as one aspect of what they regard as our racial and ethnic prejudices. Few discussions of world or United States problems failed to elicit some question about United States racial prejudices in policy or deed and some manifestation of puzzlement about, or hostility to, it….
In Europe, the difficulties facing us result in part from the national origins quota system which is based squarely on the theory that the best Americans are those of particular national or racial origins. This theory, always derogatory to our friends, is increasingly at variance with our protestations of equality and with our efforts to work fruitfully with all peoples….
Discriminatory racial and national restrictions in immigration law have made enemies for the United States in the past, and will continue to lose us friends as long as they remain in the law….
The best available scientific information indicates that criminality has no direct relationship to racial or ethnic affiliations.

That, and a signed statement that because of the maltreatment of their former ancestors, Jim Crow, disparate impact, la de da, they think they cannot in good conscience see themselves as Americans and want to leave.

Give them a “cooling off period” and encourage what Harold Covington termed (in another context, e.g, whites moving to the Pac NW) a “Scouting Trip”, though not paid out of public funds. (That alone will stop most).

If they go through with it, they get on the plane and are met by a US Embassy rep with their check and a goody bag at the destination. They get a new passport and other papers in their new home country, having surrendered their US passport before the flight (they get a one time pass) and are wished well; and reminded that should they sneak back into the US the penalty is death, which they agreed to before they got on the plane. They have been fingerprinted, retina and iris scanned and DNA swabbed as part of the procedure, of course.

I figure we’ll have to offer $250K, half up front, the other half paid out in an irrevocable annuity over 20 years, plus another bribe to the new host government in Africa (or wherever.)

I figure half a million blacks will take advantage of this offer. If they have the discipline to manage their money they’ll have decent lives in any of several of the less bad African countries on that kind of money, as long as there isn’t a revolution caused, as usual, by tribal friction. And they can probably father several kids by the local negresses.

Yes, but the perps either got really hard sentences often involving hard labor, or in the case of murder went to Old Sparky: or they were dealt with informally. They could be lynched, they could be shot through the heart by an errant warning shot by a cop, or they could just vanish under some farmer’s milo field.

Blacks who only attacked other blacks often got away with it because blacks didn’t cooperate too well with Johnny Law then too either, but some other black might take care of his own occasionally. This worked even less well than it did for mestizos, who are still prone to such things, but it happened.

A lot of adulteries and such are still settled in Mexico with a razor or a nickel plated 1911 in .38 Super.

It appears to be an intractable problem, but there is a solution. Given that he is 50% African slave and 50% Cracker, he is certain to have an indigent relative with unlimited need. If the indigent descends from the slave half, the Cracker half works hard every day to give 100% of his earnings to his African half, who then shovels half of his receipts to his indigent cousin. If the ne’er do well was Cracker spawn, our white slave half works his ass off every day to split his earnings 50% in reparations to his black slave half, and 50% to his bloodsucking Cracker relative. Any way you slice it, it’s justice.

I think you’re projecting your pet theories onto Jews.

I have no particular pet theories, and I’m not projecting anything.

Unfortunately, those theories have little to do with reality. In many ways, Israelis are even more SJW than Americans. At least we put terrorists to death. It takes decades, but we eventually give them the needle.

Israel kill plenty of terrorists, or potential terrorists. Did Israel mollycoddle this guy?

    https://www.nytimes.com/1996/01/06/world/palestinian-believed-to-be-bombing-mastermind-is-killed.html

What were all those IDF air-force sorties over Gaza delivering? Social justice?

Whereas Israelis imprison them, then trade hundreds of them for solitary Jews kidnapped by Arabs.

Kidnapped is a term that the Israeli government uses. When those being kidnapped are soldiers, the customary term is “taken prisoner”.

They tend to support current or increased levels of immigration, as evidenced by their voting patterns, whom and what they donate money to, and the tenor of elite opinion expressed in the media. I don’t think it’s done for no reason. You can claim that it is, but you have no evidence for such a claim.

Just having the discussion about reparations is a psy-op to stoke white guilt, and black resentment and entitlement.

This is what’s known as a “Money Quote”

Why is it so important? He doesn’t even offer a motivation for it.

    The one and only.

    One can only hope.

Well, making Reparations yet another Trump vaporware boondoggle might be the best case scenario at this point.

    Nope.

Krauthammer termed it a one time thing which would end racial preferences, etc.

This would have been me, responding to Krauthammer, had he said that to me:
