From The Guardian:

Essays reveal Stephen Hawking predicted race of ‘superhumans’

Physicist said genetic editing may create species that could destroy rest of humanity

Sarah Marsh, Sun 14 Oct 2018 08.28 EDT

The late physicist and author Prof Stephen Hawking has caused controversy by suggesting a new race of superhumans could develop from wealthy people choosing to edit their and their children’s DNA.

Hawking, the author of A Brief History of Time, who died in March, made the predictions in a collection of articles and essays….

“I am sure that during this century, people will discover how to modify both intelligence and instincts such as aggression,” he wrote.

“Laws will probably be passed against genetic engineering with humans. But some people won’t be able to resist the temptation to improve human characteristics, such as memory, resistance to disease and length of life.” …

“Once such superhumans appear, there will be significant political problems with unimproved humans, who won’t be able to compete,” he wrote. “Presumably, they will die out, or become unimportant. Instead, there will be a race of self-designing beings who are improving at an ever-increasing rate.”

well, of course. That is why the DNA “Dr. Frankenstein” Chinese doctor was just imprisoned by Chinese (at least for show). The world will not become overpopulated; however, how population will go down (killed off), and better humans are cultivated, is the great sci-fi movie of the next decade.

  4. As the Great Leap Forward ended up liquidating ~40 million Chinese, seems to me that CRISPRs have the potential to start programs that would liquidate 100s of millions of Chinese believed to be superfluous. Mind, this is a country where sex selective abortion (‘gendercide’) and infanticide are already routine to the tune of 40 million more males than females. Dark times…

  7. We already have a race of relative superhumans on the planet called “white people.” Just look at the ones who conquered interplanetary space yet again by landing another probe on Mars successfully:

    As for,

“Once such superhumans appear, there will be significant political problems with unimproved humans, who won’t be able to compete,” he wrote. “Presumably, they will die out, or become unimportant.

Only in the real world, white people have made the mistake of subsidizing the existence of the less capable people of color (thanks a lot, Norman Borlaug), so that they have become an increasing burden on white countries.

  8. Maybe. But it’s good to keep in mind that when man landed on the moon people thought that surely that scientific/engineering advance heralded the beginning of a new age of space exploration…and that didn’t really happen. So maybe CRISPR changes everything, maybe not.

A few things to point out:

Most human traits that you really care about appear to be highly polygenetic: intelligence for example appears to be changed very small amounts by very large numbers of genes. There is currently no evidence that one can CRISPR 1000 genes successfully. Or even 10 genes successfully. On the other hand CRISPR might be used to help people who are otherwise normal but have one defective gene. But I think that would fall very firmly into the camp of treating a disease, not genetic enhancement.

Even if you could CRISPR thousands of genes, you are not going to make superhumans, because humans are limited by the laws of physics. By that I mean, you are not going to make someone who runs twice as fast as Usain Bolt, because Usain Bolt is likely very close to the maximum running speed possible for bipeds. Furthermore, you are not going to make someone who can win the marathon and the 100 meters because there are tradeoffs in skeletal structure, etc., that preclude that–you are built for one or the other. While this is pretty obvious for physical characteristics it would likely be equally true for cognitive/personality traits.

You are also unlikely to be able to mix and match from around the animal kingdom; (for example giving humans gills), because there are so many subtle interdependencies between different organ systems.

Also, assuming that CRISPR enhanced embryos require IVF and implantation, this is going to be an expensive, failure prone process that requires multiple expensive medical professionals, and will hence only be available to a small slice of the population. Superhumans just won’t have the numbers to overrun regular humans. In fact they will probably be resented, shamed, discriminated against by the majority.

Honestly I think all the CRISPR hype is a red herring. Massive amounts of dysgenic breeding are happening, right now. Stoppnig dysgenic breeding and encouraging eugenic breeding would have far, far more impact than CRISPR ever could.

  11. Anonym says:

I would suspect that sooner or later you’d come up against diminishing returns, and tradeoffs that come from trying to optimize one thing too much. Illnesses, lack of robustness, etc.

Also, aggression is not necessarily tied to an evolutionary advantage. Being able to cooperate and function in a civilization, to take orders, etc. is an advantage as a group. SSAs are plenty aggressive, I think only in the current cradle to grave political indoctrination whites are subjected to, and state police forces that are primed to jump on whites, can it be an advantage of blacks over whites. Yes, you need some aggression but in a limited, focused sense.

  12. They won’t conquer a thing. Technocracies are busily engineering themselves out of existence as we speak, surrendering their territory to peoples who haven’t the slightest inclination to build or maintain a biotech utopia. China, Japan, etc. will follow the same degenerative path taken by the Western technocracies. It really says a lot about a people when they want to abdicate in favor of machines, AI, and test tubes.

Come to think of it, Stephen Hawking was the perfect posterboy for the technocratic West – a scientific, futuristic mind but a complete physical wreck.

  13. Let’s see…

Rich, ruthless, amoral humans not averse to genocide rig things in their favor to take over the planet and exterminate or enslave everyone else?

    Deuteronomy 20:

10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.

11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.

12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:

13 And when the Lord thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:

14 But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the Lord thy God hath given thee.

15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.

16 But of the cities of these people, which the Lord thy God doth give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that breatheth:

    Deuteronomy 15:6

For the LORD your God will bless you as he has promised, and you will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. You will rule over many nations but none will rule over you.

Originally Hawking said AI was the danger, but AlphaZero’s Demis Hassabis got him to shut up about his baby.

Super–computers on Star Trek can be talked into deactivating themselves. James Lovelock says genetic engineering is no big deal (there have always been new mutations) but AI will be something new

.“Because quite soon – before we’ve reached the end of this century, even – I think that what people call robots will have taken over.” Robots will rule the world? “Well, yes. They’ll be in charge.” In charge of us? “Yes, if we’re still here. Whether they’ll have taken over peacefully or otherwise, I have no idea.”

  16. So Hawkings assumes that Man will not impose some kind of Three Laws of Robotics or Three Laws of Advanced Genetics limitations on these future overlords. Or perhaps a banishment to the Off-Worlds and life limitation as in Blade Runner.

If Man loses control of his golems, I still put my money on Man carrying out some sort of insurgent Butlerian Jihad against the Superhumans.

I don’t have any links handy, but he actually was. I’m not sure why it wasn’t reported on more widely. Perhaps some allegations of mere harassment gain a lot of media traction because they can be spun into a headline and a couple opening paragraphs that convince the casual news-skimmer that they were more on the level of actual assault, but it’s kind of hard to pull off that trick for a subject who could only move a few muscles in his face.

Could it be that Hawking was vengeful (towards…God) about his disease?

I often wonder about that bc my father was upset over his disabled body. Could it be that people who were disabled dreamed of DNA-super beings that would “conquer us” (Hawking’s words) someday? Do we, as humans, seek to conquer all our disabled systems…or is their a limit for caring about creatures that would have succumbed to Darwinian laws?

“I am sure that during this century, people will discover how to modify both intelligence and instincts such as aggression,” he wrote.

But how much? Too much agression would be self-destructive. And too much intelligence might not help either. Vastly superior intelligence might make you a great mathematician or scientist, but probably won’t lead you to having power and influence. Do those who are successful and amassing and wielding power typically have exceptional intelligence? I don’t see much evidence of that. I don’t think Hitler or Stalin were especially smart – crafty, certainly, and certainly not stupid, but not brilliant either. Napoleon may have had rather exceptional intelligence, but in the end, it didn’t serve him all that well. What those three all had was exceptional single-mindedness of purpose and will to power.

Why do you get hysterical at the idea of eugenics, and why do you default to someone supportive of eugenics as amoral, when a very good case could be made for keeping things the way they are, with massive post-natal abortions as the go-to strategy for handling blacks and their culture, via locking them up in prison until they’re killed or die?

Is it moral do drop an entire race into an environment in which most of them are over their heads, and will eventually be ground up in our prison system? Maybe we discovered blacks operating in the stone age because that’s where they belong. Then we mix them with whites, and their offspring don’t fit in either race without suffering because of their very existence. Is that moral?

Beware of the time-worn strategy of societies cowards, who attempt to moralize themselves out of their shame, while doing nothing.

Also, aggression is not necessarily tied to an evolutionary advantage. Being able to cooperate and function in a civilization, to take orders, etc. is an advantage as a group.

I suspect this is a lot more difficult that Hawking believed because so much of this is a balancing act over time. Aggression is good when it’s good and bad when it’s bad. How do you design a man to be aggressive in business and war without getting someone more likely to beat people to death in bar fights?

  36. I know Crispr babies have been in the headlines lately, but the simple truth is that we are no where near having enough information to create “super babies” and any attempts are going to be wrought with painful mistakes. As people here know, the genetics for intelligence are complicated and depend on many genes working together. Sure you might be able to insert a gene which is highly correlated with intelligence into a fertilized egg. But you might find out that gene’s effectiveness depends on another gene, or depends on the fetal environment given by a mother with that gene. The possibilities are nearly endless and sexual reproduction and selection have already done a pretty good job of trying the combinations. It’s far more accessible to filter out sperm or eggs with bad traits, but that only gets so far.

Crop breeders have many advantages over human geneticists. They can fearlessly try things in the lab and cull the losers without moral qualms. They have fast generations – in many cases a year or less from seed to fruit. They have large numbers of well quantified source stock. And yet even there, the genetics revolution has been around the edges. It’s useful for injecting resistance where that resistance can be provided by a single gene. It’s useful for accurately identifying markers for traits. But in terms of yield or flavor or disease resistance, it’s not yet come close to the increases in yield or variety that was achieved in the first half of the 20th century. That’s not to say that it wont going forward, just that the state of the art is incremental improvement.

As in crop breeding, the best chance of producing smart, healthy, beautiful children is from smart, healthy, beautiful parents. Our society hasn’t even come to terms with that simple message. Good luck with getting much out of genetic engineering.

The Germans won WW2 in the sense that they run the EU along with their fellow Germanics and half-Germanics born outside Germany proper like Jean-Claude Juncker of Luxembourg. But then they + Merkel blow it all by bringing in a million plus Muslims and Africans in one year. Though I think most Africans were shifted onto France, plus Afriques always liked it better there in Paris, Marseille etc.

There is a certain comparison to be made with the hype surrounding the introduction of IVF “test tube baby” technology itself forty years ago.

July 1978: First “test tube baby” (born my In Vitro Fertilization, IVF)
By 2018 [=40 years]: 8,000,000 test tube babies born worldwide (acc. to some website)
1978-2016: circa 4,500,000,000+ babies born in the world [<0.2% by IVF]

IVF births are today at 1.5% of total births in the USA (acc. to some website). I don't know to what extent or not 1970s-era IVF pro or con zealots were predicting a huge sea-change in the fundamental nature of reproduction by our era (for better or worse) by for example 2018 [x decades into the IVF era, x=4 in this case]; The technology is there but really not much has changed, and the numbers are small.

One occasionally comes across people with feet in (at least the margins of) both Futurism and Racialism and/or serious IQ-realism (very often these latter two categories are overlapping), who see a high-stakes, tragic sprint-to-the-finish going on between: [1] Technology writ large (either gene editing, or creation of androids or the like, etc.), and [2] Aggressive Dysgenics.

Will [1] save the world from [2] in time? Will [2] go faster than [1], and/or will [1] otherwise falter or fail in its messianic-like mission (the Futurists’ religion) to save human civilization? Could the coup de grace a future low-IQ nuclear war?

If we are tpday at World IQ=86 (mean=85.6, SD=13.7, says Dr. Thompson), and as we are almost certainly losing some small theoretically measurable “genotype-IQ point” every year — for many generations offset by the Flynn Effect “phenotype-IQ-point” gains which are now said to be ending — even with current world racial balance held equal we are running into a real IQ-point loss (genotype IQ point loss > phenotype IQ point Flynn gains), which IIRC data suggest could be ~0.5 net IQ-point loss per decade. This is before factoring in racial fertility patterns; i.e., we may well sink towards World IQ=80 at some point in the conceivable future.

What Smart Fraction does the world need to continue civilization? When is the technological deus ex machina? At what point do this priest-class-like elite of scientists keeping the sinking ship afloat end up overboard themselves, unable to continue their mad-scientist-like mass gene editing (or android construction and maintenance) work?

Very true. If you want a child with 60% probability of graduating college , have children with a female college graduate.

Genetically altering the DNA of an embryo to give it a high polygenic score would only give a random white child a 57% probability of graduating college.

Women who want smart babies have had the option of using sperm from high IQ men , but parents are more likely to choose sperm based on the eye color of the donor or their height.

Well, the USA at the time of WW2 was overwhelmingly white european, and heavily germanic, so we were the same race as the Germans. Russians were typically predominantly white european genetically as well, though with greater variation especially in the south and Far East.

Very intriguing scenario. Definitely will check out the link – thank you.

But upon first consideration, it seems that German genes will be drowned in a tidal wave of Arab, African, Turkish, and Kurdish genes by the time Germany has an Islamic or even nonGerman majority. Germans have so few children already and thus shows no sign of improving. And their very recent immigration continues to be majority nonwhite and perhaps majority Muslim.

The average level of measurable intelligence thus will likely steadily decline, as will attributes that tend to lead to greater domestic peace, productivity, and innovation such as: high social trust and mercy outside the family, a willingness to think critically and allow open debate and expression, the rule of law rather than men, strong private property rights, privacy, and basic rights for women.

Intellect is chiefly responsible for one’s station in life.
The white “working class” is not middle or upper class due to their low intellect.
This low intellect will be passed onto their offspring since intellect is hereditary.
Thus, the white working class is basically low-IQ and a drain on societal resources.

“Only in the real world, white people have made the mistake of subsidizing the existence of the less capable people of color (thanks a lot, Norman Borlaug), so that they have become an increasing burden on white countries.”

Except “white inventions” or “western science”, while noteworthy in their original ideas and innovations, of course owe much to paper, the compass, and movable type (Chinese), to the number 0 (India), and to the idea of a rule-based, law-giving universal Creator (Middle East). Bear in mind that there are few inventions that are “purely” white. Take this comment for example. It depends on the Internet and computers – “white inventions”. But it also depends on the alphabet, a Phoenician invention, and the idea of writing itself, which in the West comes from Egypt. At any point in history, most inventions will come from one part of the world because it is the most advanced at that particular time.

Well, the WASPs who founded our nation felt the same way, too, when hordes of non-WASPs invaded our shores. The ethnic mixing between the English and Italians, the Germans and Poles, and the French and Serbs was a sure fire way to ruin the pure Anglo-Saxon breed. So I guess things just stay the same.

I’m sure, of course, that when you were seeking a (white) wife, you asked her all sorts of questions regarding “dysgenic breeding”, as do the white people of today. What a great conversation killer, I mean, starter!

“Stoppnig dysgenic breeding and encouraging eugenic breeding would have far, far more impact than CRISPR ever could.”

Absolutely! Encourage eugenic breeding. I’m certain you have taken the bull by the horns on this endeavor. You have one simple task–get on your soapbox. Here is the message. Memorize it by heart –>

Although one must be concerned about the white gene pool needlessly being diluted by the undesired offspring of vibrants when they engage in coitus at a record pace, the desired course of action is to vociferously remind whites of their duty to pop out kids like a Pez dispenser as a counter to niggers and spics breeding like rabbits.

We are mindful that the Roman emperor Augustus made adultery a public crime and established financial penalties for citizens who outright refused to marry and bear a certain number of children.

On to “inducing” women to birth and raise children. Indeed, females in their prime must be compelled to forgo their own life in order to produce offspring. The passage of a law, not substantial social pressure, is demanded to ensure white men will marry and have their wife bear five children in eight years. Dare I say the Russian model in the form of housing and education, direct cash payments to women who have more chilluns (and even adjusting their work schedules to meet maternal demands!), and programs to dry out the Vodka swilling man-childs running amok, is the model.

Regardless if couples have a steadfast belief they are not financially ready to have children, or have serious reservations to bring Bobby or Susie into a world of Cultural Marxism, for the benefit of humanity, they must be brought into submission. After all, today’s young people lack the intellectual capacity and political liberty to make their own decisions on this important matter.

What about single men who are simply interested in the “pump and dump” strategies of such prominent Gamers like Roissy and Roosh, and less inclined to bear children with whiny females because they ruin everything? Tough, instant fatherhood it is!

Although, given the fact that MPAI, perhaps this course of action be seriously contemplated–white young boys entering middle school age will endure a battery of tests to determine their level of leadership, competition, and stamina. In a “Fight Club” exercise, platoons will be created based on their test scores, who will strap on red or blue arm bands and hunt down the “enemy” to rip off their emblems. Outright brawls demonstrate a sign of strength; younger, weaker boys will summarily get pummeled and bloodied to a pulp. Ripped shirts, scraped knees, and broken noses are considered badges of honor. White boys who failed to measure up will be barred from reproducing; those who “manned up” will procure a young lass and have multiple rug rats.

After all, in the immortal words of Oliver Wendell Holmes, “[one] generation[s] of imbeciles are enough”.

We ALL have a moral duty to hit the road as traveling salesmen to pitch the idea to the unwashed masses how their utter stupidity will undeniably result in catastrophic demographic turmoil unless they “properly” live their life. The plans I humbly laid out are MOST desirable, “for the societal price for replacing children with semi-civilized immigrants [is] too high.”

So, SimpleSong, are you ready to sing this tune?

Even before Marx, the Utopian movements seemed to work okay for a while…until they didn’t. Same is likely to be true for biologically engineered humans. Reality and unintended consequences will probably provide a check and balance. I’m guessing there’s no shortcut to evolution.

That doesn’t mean that altering a couple of genes to add another 10 years to your children’s lives won’t have benefits on a micro level. But the macro is where things start to wrong. And people just won’t be able to resist the predictable enhanced packages with multiple alterations that will eventually be offered. “Taller, stronger, smarter, faster.” Then the micro will be screwed, as well.

  93. “With no natural predators to thin the herd …”

In my opinion, genetic engineering, or at least Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) with acceptable embryos having high polygenic scores and absolutely no known genetic defects, is the only way to prevent mutation meltdown (mouse utopia) and eventual human extinction, or at best pre-industrial idiocracy, where natural selection restores the cleansing of genetic load. Regarding a separate race of superhumans, why “separate”? If all parents have access to the technology (like vaccination) there won’t be a *separate* race of superhumans.

I’ve often wondered what the “problem” was in the geneticist scene from Gattaca? So the parents ignore his advice and the kid comes out with a heart defect. But this being Hollywood he “overcomes all”, cons the system and goes on to Saturn. In real life it will be “Venus” like in “The Marching Morons”.

The real implication here is often misrepresented in pop science literature: the real point of the proof is not that such singularities really occur but rather that near such a point our knowledge of how gravity works (i.e., general relativity) must fail and will need to be replaced by a more advanced theory (e.g., a successful theory of quantum gravity).

Incidentally, there are still very serious debates among physicists as to what the real implciations of Hawking radiation are: google “black-hole firewall” for numerous discussions.

It’s far easier to achieve without genetic manipulation: just have a welfare system where transfer payments are linked to fertility.

Smart women – who tend to earn more – get near-zero additional incentive to reproduce under such a system; they have higher-value things to do with their time, than spending their early adulthood pregnant or nursing.

Dumb women can’t do sums, and have badly-structured, low-information expectations formation processes… and they have lower incomes, so the extra money has higher utility (and their expectation of the additional net utility of a kid is optimistic)… and so they squirt out more human dross.

Do those who are successful and amassing and wielding power typically have exceptional intelligence?

    Nope.

There’s a decent amount of evidence that the link between socioeconomic outperformance and IQ starts to decline above (roughly) 135. By the time you get to the 3σ (145) cohort, there is a significant under-representation in ‘elite’ socioeconomic fields (lawyers, judges, research scientists etc).

One school of thought on this, is that these elite minds are ‘excluded’; that there is some sort of discrimination against them. The Polymath has written a piece on that (entitled “The Inappropriately Excluded“); it seems to me that this piece is sneaking up on the idea that smart people would make good technocrats – that the 145-and-up cohort are the ideal benevolent dictators.

I belong to the exact opposite school of thought: even at IQs as low as the mid-130s, people are more likely to view ‘elite’ socioeconomic fields as being not worth the effort; they realise that the best thing to do (from their own perspective as lifetime-utility-maximisers) is to find a level of comfort that they like, and set themselves up to achieve that level of comfort with the lowest possible effort. “Satisficing”, it’s called.

That’s the simplest possible answer to The American Question, i.e., –

“If you’re so smart, how come you ain’t rich?”

Answer: a very different preference map.

To a high-IQ individual, The American Question is like a dog asking why a human portfolio contains anything other than bones.

There is a qualitative change in cognitive mechanisms between the cognitive elite and those below about IQ125 (a half-decent graduate in a non-hobby discipline). It’s analogous to the idea that speeded up monkeys would not have qualitatively similar cognition to humans.

There will be some subset of very-high-IQ individuals who are also parasitic sociopathic megalomaniacs; some of those vermin will become politicians, and might do relatively well… but frankly political life does not require intelligence: it requires cunning, absence of principle, and megalomania.

Fisher, and psychologists too numerous to mention were predicting dire consequences for society as a result of the fact that more children were born to mothers of lower intelligence than to those of higher [...] Even today, parents with lower IQ do indeed have larger families, with the average IQ of mothers of 5-child families being about 20 per cent less than that of mothers who have only one child.* Furthermore, about 20 per cent of women remain childless in the US and UK—and this figure is more like 50 per cent in the highest-paid occupations which also tend to go with the highest IQs.* Nevertheless, the measured IQ of Western nations has risen inexorably. Indeed, these figures suggest that the Flynn Effect would have been even greater had it not been for the countervailing effect of this inverse relation between female fecundity and IQ. What on earth is going on?The data also suggest that teenage mothers with lower WHRs and their children were protected from the cognitive decrements normally associated with teen births. In the words of the researchers, “these findings support the idea that WHR reflects the availability of neurodevelopmental resources and thus offer a new explanation for men’s preference for low WHR.”* Indeed, the findings offer additional evidence for the heritability of intelligence from the mother as argued in previous posts.

The WASPs were right in that their power base would be diluted. But they were dead wrong, like you, in believing that ethnic groups ought not to mix. It is clear that you are anti-white. Not really surprised.

Who is this “our”? WASPs? White people? Are you Mushmouth?

Relax, you are hyperventilating again. You are desperate in trying to state directly, at best, or imply, at worst, that ethnic mixing is a detriment, which in the end is merely an opinion. The reality is that your statement is anti-biology and anti-humanity.

“Differences in physical traits between human populations accumulated slowly over tens of thousands of years. As people spread across the globe and adapted to local conditions, a combination of natural selection and cultural innovation led to physical distinctions. But these groups did not remain apart. Contact between groups, whether through trade or conflict, led to the exchange of both genes and ideas. Recent insights from the sequencing of hundreds of thousands of human genomes in the past decade have revealed that our species’ history has been punctuated by many episodes of migration and genetic exchange. The mixing of human groups is nothing new.”

The Star Trek clip was built around genetics. I seem to recall more passing references to genetics in older shows, e.g. Family Ties from the ”80s had Alex telling his sister about a possible date, “look at this guy; he is genetically incapable of making less than $50,000 a year.”

Such things are less likely today.

Steve makes a good point with Harry Potter, but I’ll suggest it was blunted by being other worldly.

I love this man. No one knew what he was doing, because of the complete lack of oversight is China, so he edited so[me] baby genes. His press conference was hilarious. It’s basically him being clueless that anyone wouldn’t want to do this because it’s so cool.
We need more uncucked scientists. All these ethics rules has stopped science from progressing for 100 years.

  133. @Clyde

True but the average person in the US and China is going to think that gene editing can create a master race or class of overlords.

And thus every Tiger Mom will instantly jump on the technology (and no doubt be very disappointed with the actual results).

Pardon but what does this mean?

It’s my best guess at what can be taken as a sensible example of an individual who is likely to have an IQ of roughly 125; viz., people who
    • finish above the top quartile, but below the top decile, of university graduates;
    • having studied a discipline that is
    ⓐ meritocratic and
ⓑ has intellectually-defensible empirical content generated by a research process that pays at least lip service to the scientific method.

In other words, not including things like
    • Gender/Diversity/Women’s/Grievance Studies;
    • ‘Communications’;
    • Psych[];
    • Journalism;
    • Management;
    • Marketing;
    • Theology/Comparative Religion…

I would even consider disciplines that are mostly broscience (like Nutrition, Sports Science, ‘High Performance’ and the like) to be more valid than the list above.

In the ordinary course of events, I also restrict the ‘space’ to institutions that are at a half-decent standard (say, in the top 200 globally).

What that means is: if you’re looking at a half-decent non-hobbyist from a Top 200 university, assuming an IQ of 125 is almost a lay-down misère; if a person with the same academic performance graduated from a university outside the top 200, it’s reduced to “pretty likely”.

In other words: an IQ of 125 is not quite enough to enable one to easily undertake fully merit-funded graduate study at a ‘good’ institution. That’s 2σ territory (note: that doesn’t mean that all 2σ individuals undertake grad study – or undergrad for that matter).

  135. @Sean

As usual, the psych[] charlatans have cart and horse back-asswards when it matters –

The data also suggest that teenage mothers with lower WHRs and their children were protected from the cognitive decrements normally associated with teen births. In the words of the researchers, “these findings support the idea that WHR reflects the availability of neurodevelopmental resources and thus offer a new explanation for men’s preference for low WHR.”

WHR is not ‘protective’ in and of itself: it is an outcome of the individual’s decisions about diet (and to a lesser extent, exercise) – which is correlated with longer-horizons[1], planning, information-gathering/processing… traits associated with our old chum … higher IQ (not ‘high‘, necessarily: just higher than the median pram-face).

Higher IQ also leads low-WHR women to properly ‘price’ the risk of hooking up with some arbitrary fuckwit from the ‘estate’ (in UK parlance)… which means that their offspring is the product of a higher-IQ dam and a less-than-fuckwitted sire (again, relative to the overall underclass).

So WHR and resources correlate because they are both outcomes of higher IQ; if you take a pramface and put her through the dietary and exercise regimen required to get her WHR down, you will do precisely nothing to ‘protect’ her offspring from the shitful decisions that she will continue to make as a result of cognitive shortcomings.

In fact since she will be more attractive to the fuckwits in her class once she’s “lookin’ fit, innit“, she’s likely to squirt out more welfare-subsidised untermenschen than would otherwise be the case.

[1] these traits are seen even in otherwise-fuckwitted gymbro types: they know about cumulative small effects over time, and they constantly delay dietary gratification in pursuit of #muhgainz. They even read the scientific literature. Back in the 80s I was a total gym meathead, but I understood the science – and the long-term ramifications – of my steroid use; this was not rare by any means, and only the truly idiotic took doses that had deleterious long-term consequences. (The average gymbro is significantly smarter than the average soldier, who in turn is smarter than the average cop).

I used to have a copy of the results of the political views survey done by Triple 9 (a society for people 3σ above the median – so an IQ of ~145-150 and up); it was on the site at one stage, but now that gives a 404. Anyhow… the responses tilted libertarian/anarchist.

Libertarianism/anarchism is exactly the sort of damn fool idea that tends to appeal to high IQ types.

That’s why a society that hopes to survive needs to keep high IQ people away from the levers of power. Ideally no-one with an IQ of 130-plus should be allowed to vote.
