Ironically, it's actually disproportionately easier for us Europeans to be snatched, plundered, discarded, and ultimately forgotten.

Witness the long unobserved white death, as it's come to be called. The criminalization of racial discrimination against anyone except us, and the concomitant requirements under law that we be proactively discriminated against. The failure of the media to ever acknowledge the realities if interracial crimes. The acknowledged right of every race but ours to have a homeland. The tacit permission for other races to riot and assault us with impunity in Ferguson, Baltimore, Berkeley, San José, etc. And so on, and so forth. Hell, other races aren't even expected to eliminate extraneous prepositions from their writing.

Come to that, Get Out should be italicised; I presume Steve just reproduced the poor punctuation of the headline as it appeared in Slate. (Or perhaps the software of the site makes italics in the titles of his entries a hassle....)

(Apparently, the godawful Associated Press' guidelines have mangled all these rules in any event. I work with a recovering journalist, and whenever these nuances come up I realise his weird peccadilloes are no fault of his own, but of that august body's ongoing efforts to stultify both writers and readers.)

  2. What is this, Equality of Press Victims? Like vibrant actors complaining that the BBC doesn’t represent its audience statistically. For every pretty, white, blonde, female News Celebrities, we need at least .00003% black, lesbian, Jewish ones.

It *is* easier for blacks to be plundered and discarded, almost entirely by eachother. Let’s pretend that’s not because they crap at forming families, let alone communities able to function in modern civilization. Just run with the basic fact. So what? You know what, Damon Young? You don’t want the victims to get more press. Trust me.

They don’t want people to caring about black victims, because then people would be aware of black crime and black civilization-collapse. They actively try to keep people in the dark about such things, with good reason. Because realistic views on how different races live differently is fatally dangerous to their politics.

Besides, violence against blacks, if reported accurately, would be a collection of dog bites man stories. Not really news, except locally. My local news is full of stories about black crime, most of it limited to a couple of neighborhoods in one city. I very much doubt black people tune in and feel good about their much-desired publicity.

If non-whites and minorities were only complaining about statistically under-representation, I wouldn't be that bothered. But they don't seem to stop there. Blacks are about three percent of the population in the UK, and at least three percent of UK TV actors and news presenters are black (maybe five percent) but they are still not happy.

They don't want statistical representation, they already have that, what they want is for every black person who goes to drama or journalism school to get a job in the arts or media, and for that to happen, significant numbers of whites with superior qualifications and talents have to miss out.

Blacks don't have the IQ levels to participate in STEM and business jobs on a equal level with whites, so they think they should be given extra quotas in less IQ demanding fields like acting and TV presenting. This already happens in government jobs, where blacks are over-represented because they are under-represented in the private sector.

"Witness the long unobserved white death, as it’s come to be called."

On Tucker Carlson's show last night he mentioned a remarkable statistic: deaths due to heroin and opioid OD are now running at 10 per 100,000. The comparable number for the heroin epidemic of the early 1970s was about 1.5 per 100,000; for the crack epidemic of the 90s, 2 per 100,000.

Left unexamined seems to be Peele’s mulatto heritage, and how his existence is the existential threat to the real American Black Man. Old time black men and women have been effectively eradicated within the last three generations through the black version of “racial cleansing” that Peele himself subscribes to: marrying and having babies with white women. A farther reaching, far more dramatic and final approach to cultural eradication than just “playing the White Man’s Game,” is accepting the White Man’s DNA.

As Richard Pryor, a black Puerto Rican has said, “unless you jet black, some white person been in there somewhere.” Indeed, Oprah Winfrey was a bit appalled when she discovered via DNA testing that she was part Chinese. One can see the Eurasian cast on many, many Somalian faces, which is why so many of them look like a relative of David Bowie’s widow, iman.

Anyone who remembers black communities before the lifting of segregation will immediately note how BLACK black people generally were compared to the coffee and cream colored blacks more typically around today. Blacks have self-eradicated, and likely to their genetic benefit. One can easily notice that successful blacks are most often blacks with White or Chinese admixture. Rarely do you see a BLACK black, and when you do, something unfortunate is likely to happen, sooner or later, since a majority of real blacks have even more of an IQ heritage to overcome.

Especially amongst mixed-race blacks, racial prejudice is pronounced against their authentically black constituents. Many mulatto women have said they wouldn’t date a full African American because “he too black,” and vice versa. These are the folks Peele should be afraid of. Because they’re real, and they’re eliminating the Authentic Black race in America, one Mulatto baby at a time.

Peele is like the dumbest “Pod Person” ever. He’s already “infected,” yet he’s trying to “save” the non-infected, as if he’s not a carrier. His story isn’t that of a hero, or antagonist. He’s random at best, a negative variable for both sides more likely.

And the final question is, what does Peele think he’s trying to protect? Black culture, such as it is, has had a wheel in the ditch since the sixties. It amazes me that so many black and mulatto men and women keep holding onto some old black sharecropper’s dialect as a badge of authenticity. Gang rap music only seemed to resolidify this old time negro trope, effectively eradicating The lead given by such progressive blacks such as Sidney Portier. The fellow all blacks hold up with false pride, since most American blacks carry no desire to emulate him: an authentic black man who is wildly successful because, before his identity, he always played at the height of his intelligence. Developing that habit is the greatest social equalizer known to man.

It’s a lesson too many blacks and mulattos alike, have yet to learn.

Anonymous, The other day we were treated to an article where the author stated that biracial lineage was the best, well, because. In the inner cities of America, approaching 100% unwed births, I think the bigger problem for blacks is not in diluting their blackness, but in cousins and even closer relatives having babies. I said this before, but if a woman has four or five or more children by four or five different men, and the man has four or five children by four or five women, eventually you have your children, called "cousins", in the hood, having children with each other. Not good on so many levels.
    , @Attila the Bum

As Richard Pryor, a black Puerto Rican has said, “unless you jet black, some white person been in there somewhere.”

That's not strictly true. All it would take for skin to lighten over time (generations) is removal of selection pressure in favor of black skin. Presumably light-skinned blacks in Africa tend to die at higher rates from sun-related skin diseases and so are removed from the population, usually in childhood before they have time to reproduce.
    , @Mr Mack Bolan
There are mixed feelings concerning mulattos and light skinned blacks within the black community. On one hand many blacks want to have light skinned children because it obviously gives their offspring a better shot at life, and on the other hand in the ghetto lite skinned blacks are singled out for bullying by the coal black population of the hood. Jealousy would seem to be the reason for this behavior. The darkies are inferior mentally to the lighter skinned, but make up for it with size and strength.
If a lite skinned negro is raised in a white middle class neighborhood he has a good chance of being somewhat successful, but being raised with the inferior dark skinned blacks unfortunately puts them at a disadvantage. Fear of being ostracized may cause the lite skinned ones to downplay their superior intellect as they strive to fit in to the gangster lifestyle.

We know Key and Peele didn't make it to where they are by relying on the black part of their heritage.
  5. Steve, your idea about an X-Files reboot investigating traditional black conspiracy theories may have been a joke, but God help us if someone takes you up on it. The closest thing I can think of which exists. Many episodes feature outlandish white conspiracies, though these are played for laughs. It has the guy who voices Frylock playing an OTT parody of Shaft.

Offtopic, but how annoying (And highly iStevish) is it when you watch one of the big animated series and notice they literally have no voice actors who can do a 'black guy voice' without it being clear it is a white guy trying to sound like a black guy. Really annoying. Like the types of people who become writers and voice actors of the Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy don't know any black people or something...

    LOL--

...when white people read magazines and books they are always looking for grammar and spelling mistakes. In fact, one of the greatest joys a white person can experience is to catch a grammar mistake in a major publication. Finding one allows a white person to believe that they are better than the writer and the publication since they would have caught the mistake. The more respected the publication, the greater the thrill. If a white person were to catch a mistake in The New Yorker, it would be a sufficient reason for a large party.

Also, I believe such nitpicking, as you call it, is most often intended constructively. , @Jus' Sayin'...
I have seen on the internet what appears to be either an office photograph or a NASA publicity photograph of one of these women at work. Prominent in the picture is one of the old electro-mechanical Frieden calculators, taking up much of her desk. Anyone familiar with the period would immediately realize that the woman was a glorified data entry clerk. She would have been given a set of numbers, a formula or set of instructions, and told to compute and pass on the result to someone higher up.

This was a commonplace technique in a period when mainframe computers had less power than the hand held calculators we occasionally still use and the mainframes were reserved for the most difficult calculations, e.g., computing space-time trajectories for rocket propelled vehicles. Back then, real engineers/mathematicians/scientists would most often work with paper and pencil and do rough checks of the resulting formulas and calculations with now outdated things like tables of integrals and slipsticks. Their desks would always be clear of impedimenta like the bulky and slow Frieden calculators. (Long division on these was a time consuming but amusing task which created an extended whirring clicking sound and apparently endless back and forth motions of the upper display panel.) Later, the formulas the real engineers, mathematicians and scientists had developed were converted into usable data by human computers (like these women) and real mainframe computers.

Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer of us who operated in technical environments at this time and who can call BS on the nonsensical propaganda produced by Hollywood's corps of SJWs.

  15. This sort of reminds me of one of the central beliefs of Ta-Nehisi Coates: blacks are the most interesting, dynamic people on the planet and their bodies and labor are just chock full of value which evil whites – who lack all of these qualities – nevertheless somehow are able to extract for their own benefit.

The mostly white progressive movement endlessly promotes this concept, which is why they shoehorn racism into every discussion or situation in which blacks underperform, as well as over celebrate any modest cultural successes, like TNC’s book, any album by Beyonce, etc (and ignore less ‘woke’ but significantly more intelligent black Americans like John McWhorter). It’s the ultimate pat on the head for a group they actually don’t have high expectations for, despite all the virtue-signaling.

A lot of the resentment that bubbles up comes from overpraise and the self-regard it cultivates when the truth is that most of the country just doesn’t give a damn about black culture much beyond the occasional pop tune or weekend football game. We’ve got our own lives and problems to worry about.

It’s too bad Peele went this route – he and his comedic partner were genuinely funny and I enjoyed their show a lot.

  16. I was critical of Steve’s review, since I thought it a perfectly enjoyable horror-comedy he was taking too seriously, but I think Sam Lively made a fairly accurate diagnosis of how the movie stacks up against Peele’s description. Since the film seems to be performing better than most of Kaufman’s output at the box-office, I wonder if Peele simplified the film and made it less personal to make it more broadly accessible, or if he simply didn’t feel like digging too deeply into his own psyche.

The Slate article is correct that missing black people don’t arouse much response. I’m reminded of Steve noting that Solomon Northrup’s family assumed he had just left on his own.

Niall Ferguson's book on the causes of 20th century conflict (War of the World) has a relevant blurb on this that I had wanted to include in the review but ran out of steam. He talked about the rapid increase in assimilation and intermarriage between Jews and Germans in the 1920s leading up to the explosive ascent of anti-Semitism in German politics.

  17. Don’t forget Vox:

    http://www.vox.com/culture/2017/3/7/14759756/get-out-benevolent-racism-white-feminism

Get Out ingeniously uses common horror tropes to reveal truths about how pernicious racism is in the world. It doesn’t walk back any of its condemnations by inserting a “white savior” or making overtures to pacifism and tolerance. No: In this film, white society is a conscious purveyor of evil, and Chris must remain alert to its benevolent racism. He has to in order to survive.

The film’s overarching theme is that its horrors are literal. In real life, the politenesses of casual racism — what Wilkinson describes as “racist behavior that tries to be aggressively unscary” — are consciously deployed efforts to reinforce prejudice. Words and actions that seem banal turn out to mask gargantuan evils in Get Out because in real life, those tiny, trivial things are born of a larger system of devaluing human lives.

I know a woman in Los Angeles, a 50 year old feminist, anti-racist, Hillary loving libtard. She and her husband saw Get Out on opening night, because they hate racism, and they loved Key and Peele. She came out of the movie enraged, and posted on Facebook about how horrific the message of the movie was, and how much it scared her. She took the message to be that white people in general are unspeakably evil, and are always plotting to murder blacks, but that white women in particular are even more so. She went on and on about the movie. She simply could not believe the message, nor how blatant it was. She was like, “My God! It’s as if Hollywood is trying to get blacks to start murdering white people!”

    Gee, ya think?

Of course, if they had made the bad guys backward white people in Alabama or Tennessee, she would’ve loved the movie. But it’s starting to dawn on even some of the densest liberals that to blacks, “racist” means all white people, even the Goodwhites like themselves.

In one of that lot’s writings I encountered the term for the first time (I readily admit I had to look it up myself), and I liked it so much I adopted it as a pseudonym for writing and work I do to fight the invasion. You can still read the first letter I signed it to.

Offtopic, but how annoying (And highly iStevish) is it when you watch one of the big animated series and notice they literally have no voice actors who can do a ‘black guy voice’ without it being clear it is a white guy trying to sound like a black guy. I was recently forced to view that chick flick with the Black chick computer geniuses at NASA. How ever did a film like this get made? Who let a film with black citizens acting civilized, intelligent and patriotic slip onto the screen?

Unfortunately there are fewer and fewer of us who operated in technical environments at this time and who can call BS on the nonsensical propaganda produced by Hollywood’s corps of SJWs.

Left unexamined seems to be Peele's mulatto heritage, and how his existence is the existential threat to the real American Black Man. Old time black men and women have been effectively eradicated within the last three generations through the black version of "racial cleansing" that Peele himself subscribes to: marrying and having babies with white women. A farther reaching, far more dramatic and final approach to cultural eradication than just "playing the White Man's Game," is accepting the White Man's DNA.

As Richard Pryor, a black Puerto Rican has said, "unless you jet black, some white person been in there somewhere." Indeed, Oprah Winfrey was a bit appalled when she discovered via DNA testing that she was part Chinese. One can see the Eurasian cast on many, many Somalian faces, which is why so many of them look like a relative of David Bowie's widow, iman.

Many mulatto women have said they wouldn't date a full African American because "he too black," and vice versa. These are the folks Peele should be afraid of. Because they're real, and they're eliminating the Authentic Black race in America, one Mulatto baby at a time.

Peele is like the dumbest "Pod Person" ever. He's already "infected," yet he's trying to "save" the non-infected, as if he's not a carrier. His story isn't that of a hero, or antagonist. He's random at best, a negative variable for both sides more likely.

And the final question is, what does Peele think he's trying to protect? Black culture, such as it is, has had a wheel in the ditch since the sixties. It amazes me that so many black and mulatto men and women keep holding onto some old black sharecropper's dialect as a badge of authenticity.

It's a lesson too many blacks and mulattos alike, have yet to learn.

Anonymous, The other day we were treated to an article where the author stated that biracial lineage was the best, well, because. In the inner cities of America, approaching 100% unwed births, I think the bigger problem for blacks is not in diluting their blackness, but in cousins and even closer relatives having babies. I said this before, but if a woman has four or five or more children by four or five different men, and the man has four or five children by four or five women, eventually you have your children, called “cousins”, in the hood, having children with each other. Not good on so many levels.

To the blacks, full sibling invest was normal staring when the sisters were 11 or 12. My son asked didn't the sisters object? No the blacks replied, they wanted it.

This sort of reminds me of one of the central beliefs of Ta-Nehisi Coates: blacks are the most interesting, dynamic people on the planet and their bodies and labor are just chock full of value which evil whites - who lack all of these qualities - nevertheless somehow are able to extract for their own benefit.

The mostly white progressive movement endlessly promotes this concept, which is why they shoehorn racism into every discussion or situation in which blacks underperform, as well as over celebrate any modest cultural successes, like TNC's book, any album by Beyonce, etc (and ignore less 'woke' but significantly more intelligent black Americans like John McWhorter). It's the ultimate pat on the head for a group they actually don't have high expectations for, despite all the virtue-signaling.

A lot of the resentment that bubbles up comes from overpraise and the self-regard it cultivates when the truth is that most of the country just doesn't give a damn about black culture much beyond the occasional pop tune or weekend football game. We've got our own lives and problems to worry about.

It's too bad Peele went this route - he and his comedic partner were genuinely funny and I enjoyed their show a lot.

Arc, Well said and I like the thought that we somehow “extract” all the good things out of blacks. It’s maple syrup time here in WNY and we be busy extracting sap from the maple trees. Maybe I’ll tap a black walnut or two to see what we get from that.

  27. A note on a different film:

Just saw La La Land. While watching it, I was struck at how impossible it would have been to make the movie about other than white people. Complaints seemed to focus on the “appropriation” of jazz, but the really white thing about the movie was the way it basked in the characters’ sense of delight and wonder at the world. When Gosling’s black jazz nemesis tells him that his problem is that he looks backwards while jazz always looks to the future, that’s another way of saying that blacks use jazz as a tool to project their ego while Gosling is caught up in feelings of awe.

Emotionally, they just would have completely implausible if the main characters had been other than white. Really, while a mixed couple is believable in other kinds of romances, it wouldn’t have worked in this film at all. Indeed, the film went out of its way to show Gosling’s happy, miscegenating sister, but her character and her relationship feel pretty devoid of the wonder the rest of the film showcases.

Unexpectedly, my girlfriend pretty strongly disliked the movie and pointed out as we were leaving the theater that the rest of the (Japanese) audience was pretty unenthused, which they did in fact appear to be. After struggling to explain why she disliked the movie, she finally settled on “it was ‘too pure’,” which I take to be her recognition that the “suspension of disbelief” in a romantic musical movie like this involves conflating flying and dancing with dreaming and both with love.

The movie left me wondering whether it’s possible that the emotional life of white people is in some way unique.

Well, actually, vis-a-vis the Screen to Screed review, maybe this comment isn’t so far off topic.

I was critical of Steve's review, since I thought it a perfectly enjoyable horror-comedy he was taking too seriously, but I think Sam Lively made a fairly accurate diagnosis of how the movie stacks up against Peele's description. Since the film seems to be performing better than most of Kaufman's output at the box-office, I wonder if Peele simplified the film and made it less personal to make it more broadly accessible, or if he simply didn't feel like digging too deeply into his own psyche.

The Slate article is correct that missing black people don't arouse much response. I'm reminded of Steve noting that Solomon Northrup's family assumed he had just left on his own.

Niall Ferguson’s book on the causes of 20th century conflict (War of the World) has a relevant blurb on this that I had wanted to include in the review but ran out of steam. He talked about the rapid increase in assimilation and intermarriage between Jews and Germans in the 1920s leading up to the explosive ascent of anti-Semitism in German politics.

Duplicate from another thread on Unz Review.

I listened this morning (Saturday March 11, 2017) fresh Radio Derb.
As always, it was very good. One little comment.
Derbyshire ascribes the birth of ethno-masochism
to the this statement by Susan Sontag:

The white race is the cancer of human history; it is the white race and it alone—its ideologies and inventions—which eradicates autonomous civilizations wherever it spreads, which has upset the ecological balance of the planet, which now threatens the very existence of life itself.

Not a hint that she addressed this tirade to Jews (she was Jewish herself.)
I asked numerous times on various threads on Unz Review if Jews are to be considered as belonging to white race, and invariably got the answers
    “No, they are not.”
In this sense the tirade by Sontag should be classified towards ethno-sadism, and not ethno-masochism. Subsequent developments into ethno-masochism are subject to a separate discussion.
Myself, I do not have an opinion on
“if Jews are to be considered as belonging to white race,”
    and do not care.

“Witness the long unobserved white death, as it’s come to be called.”

On Tucker Carlson’s show last night he mentioned a remarkable statistic: deaths due to heroin and opioid OD are now running at 10 per 100,000. The comparable number for the heroin epidemic of the early 1970s was about 1.5 per 100,000; for the crack epidemic of the 90s, 2 per 100,000.

Damn how dare black people carry around any grievances for the legacy of slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow laws, cross burning, medical torture, and minstrel entertainment. It’s not a “hatred” for white people, its for the constant strumming in “white America” that black people should just “get over it” even as they are still targeted as lazy criminals, incarcerated at a higher percentage, crack versus cocaine possession sentencing and the constant harping about how they need to stop saying BLM cause ALM! You aren’t special black people, yeah, I think they know that what’s many people think of them. It’s why many are angry over a current case where a group of white boys sadistically sodomized a disabled black teen and his sentence is probation and community service, in the media they are referred to as “football teammates” the 4 black teens who beat a white kid are referred to as a “gang” despite having no organized crime ties.

The white kid, after he completes his community service will have his vicious racist tirade and sexual assault wiped from his record. The 4 black teens have not been sentenced yet, but I doubt they will receive anything close to a similar sentence.

It’s like saying jeez Jewish people, just get over the Holocaust already, stop getting so angry when people say it didn’t really happen or it wasn’t that bad.

Complaints seemed to focus on the "appropriation" of jazz, but the really white thing about the movie was the way it basked in the characters' sense of delight and wonder at the world. When Gosling's black jazz nemesis tells him that his problem is that he looks backwards while jazz always looks to the future, that's another way of saying that blacks use jazz as a tool to project their ego while Gosling is caught up in feelings of awe.

Emotionally, they just would have completely implausible if the main characters had been other than white. Really, while a mixed couple is believable in other kinds of romances, it wouldn't have worked in this film at all. Indeed, the film went out of its way to show Gosling's happy, miscegenating sister, but her character and her relationship feel pretty devoid of the wonder the rest of the film showcases.

Unexpectedly, my girlfriend pretty strongly disliked the movie and pointed out as we were leaving the theater that the rest of the (Japanese) audience was pretty unenthused, which they did in fact appear to be. After struggling to explain why she disliked the movie, she finally settled on "it was 'too pure'," which I take to be her recognition that the "suspension of disbelief" in a romantic musical movie like this involves conflating flying and dancing with dreaming and both with love.

The movie left me wondering whether it's possible that the emotional life of white people is in some way unique.

Well, actually, vis-a-vis the Screen to Screed review, maybe this comment isn't so far off topic.

Was filmed in Vancouver (Hence why, like Stargate and BSG every wilderness looks like a boreal forest. Spooky damp pine forests worked so well on the X-Files though.) so I guess there weren't so many black actors to be cast, particularly in bit-parts. Actually happens to a lot of US shows filmed up there.

I wonder if somebody has done a comparison of the demographics of supposedly American shows filmed there with ones filmed in the US.

There was a poster on amren who was a teacher in an all black Atlanta school. Most of the kids walked over from the nearby projects. She said it was amazing how many of them were cousins and half siblings. There is also a lot, a lot of full and half sibling incest and resultant babies in black culture. There is also the standard father grandpa uncle etc incest.

My son played college basketball and of course was had to associate with the black players. As young men do, they talked a lot about sex.
Everyone if the black guys routinely had sex with their sisters. And they were shocked and surprised that Whites don’t routinely have sex with their sisters. To the blacks, full sibling invest was normal staring when the sisters were 11 or 12. My son asked didn’t the sisters object? No the blacks replied, they wanted it.

In the movie Joshua Then And Now, starring James Woods, there is a scene where a blonde WASP guy gets carted off in the back of a police truck while Woods' Jewish character goes up to the guy's girlfriend and grabs her and starts kissing her. At which point the WASP guy begins screaming, "YOU JEWISH BASTARD!!!!!" I'll bet many young Jewish men watched that scene and got a little tingle from it.

    Don't forget Vox:

    http://www.vox.com/culture/2017/3/7/14759756/get-out-benevolent-racism-white-feminism

She was like, "My God! It's as if Hollywood is trying to get blacks to start murdering white people!"

    Gee, ya think?

Of course, if they had made the bad guys backward white people in Alabama or Tennessee, she would've loved the movie. But it's starting to dawn on even some of the densest liberals that to blacks, "racist" means all white people, even the Goodwhites like themselves.

What is this, Equality of Press Victims? Like vibrant actors complaining that the BBC doesn't represent its audience statistically. For every pretty, white, blonde, female News Celebrities, we need at least .00003% black, lesbian, Jewish ones.

It *is* easier for blacks to be plundered and discarded, almost entirely by eachother. Let's pretend that's not because they crap at forming families, let alone communities able to function in modern civilization. Just run with the basic fact. So what? You know what, Damon Young? You don't want the victims to get more press. Trust me.

They don't want people to caring about black victims, because then people would be aware of black crime and black civilization-collapse.

If non-whites and minorities were only complaining about statistically under-representation, I wouldn’t be that bothered. But they don’t seem to stop there. Blacks are about three percent of the population in the UK, and at least three percent of UK TV actors and news presenters are black (maybe five percent) but they are still not happy.

They don’t want statistical representation, they already have that, what they want is for every black person who goes to drama or journalism school to get a job in the arts or media, and for that to happen, significant numbers of whites with superior qualifications and talents have to miss out.

Blacks don’t have the IQ levels to participate in STEM and business jobs on a equal level with whites, so they think they should be given extra quotas in less IQ demanding fields like acting and TV presenting. This already happens in government jobs, where blacks are over-represented because they are under-represented in the private sector.

It's a lesson too many blacks and mulattos alike, have yet to learn.

As Richard Pryor, a black Puerto Rican has said, “unless you jet black, some white person been in there somewhere.”

That’s not strictly true. All it would take for skin to lighten over time (generations) is removal of selection pressure in favor of black skin. Presumably light-skinned blacks in Africa tend to die at higher rates from sun-related skin diseases and so are removed from the population, usually in childhood before they have time to reproduce.

It's a lesson too many blacks and mulattos alike, have yet to learn.

We know Key and Peele didn’t make it to where they are by relying on the black part of their heritage.

I am a fan of Lonergan, but didn't realize it for a long time. There was a substantial gap between each of his movies. I didn't know Manchester was by the You Can Count on Me/Margaret guy until I saw it.

He made a splash in the early 2000s in the indie/awards circuits with You Can Count on Me. Presumably because it had a Strong Female Role for Laura Linney (a strong white female, but that was allowed at the time), and because they like screenwriters to resemble playwrights. (Or appear to.) Maybe he is a playwright; I wouldn't know.

Then he disappeared for a decade, at least from my Hollywood consciousness. (Busy writing plays?) Something strange happened with Margaret, which came out a few years ago (2011?) on HBO. It had an obvious 9/11-y feel to it (tragedy in NYC, "what's it all about?" type stuff), and Matt Damon looked about 10 years younger than he should have. Also, Damon had a smaller role than you'd think, which is a giveaway. I don't know what happened, but obviously it was held back for some reason. Usually that reason is the movie sucks. Sometimes it's good but they can't figure out how to market it. Or it could have been something else. I liked Margaret, though it was overlong.

His movies are all alike. Talky domestic dramas surrounding young people dealing with death. (These aren't really spoilers, as they're more the premises.) In You Can Count on Me it's a grown brother and sister who were orphaned at a young age. In Margaret it's a teen who holds herself responsible for a woman being run over by a bus. In Manchester it's a guy who's compelled to take custody of his nephew after his brother dies, years after the death of his daughters, for which he feels responsible. Heavy stuff, but the movies are funny enough. Very indie and play-like, in that they're not visually interesting but based on writing and performance. Also, not much seems to happen, until it does.

I can't comment on the i-Steve-esque aspects very well. The first one is about a very rooted white woman in a small, New England town, and her rootless, drifter brother. The second is about an upper-middle class, private school attending, spoiled, Jewish (I think) teen and her famous stage actress mother in NYC. The third is about a working-class drunken Irishman and his surprisingly well-off though manually-laboring brother's family.

There isn't much of an SJW feel. There're genuine anti-SJW themes, actually. You Can Count on Me Takes religion seriously, though the pastor is an easygoing Churchian type. There's a great moment where the main character confesses, he says they don't emphasize sin anymore, or whatever, and she's all, "Maybe you should."

The second one features Howard Zinn himself, as I recall, and makes him appear reasonable. But there's also a Columbian (I think, played by Frenchman Jean Reno) suitor for the mother, who gets Watsoned for saying something about Jews. The audience is put in sympathy with him later. (Perhaps allowable because he was Columbian.) It also presents unflattering pictures of teachers, actresses, and lawyers. The cops come off okay.

I don't remember enough about Manchester, though I've seen it more recently. There is a hysterical "rape culture" response from a female tenant when the main character, who is a handyman, runs afoul of her feminine superiority in the bathroom. Which is played for laughs.

Lonergan appears in all his movies, in more substantial roles in the earlier ones. He seems like an actual actor; it's not a Hitchcock thing. Matthew Broderick also appears in all the movies, for whatever reason.

The movie technically seems quite amateurish and every bit the first effort that it is. The trailer Truly resembled an SNL skit to me at first glance. Not a particularly auspicious rookie opus because it should be noted that horror is the easiest genre to mimic. Just toss out a few cats thrown by a PA or wrangler and in some overly caffeinated trailer credits, and some requisite gore, violence, nudity, and minor seconds in the score and voila: there’s your modern “scary” movie. Of course not a single goodthink white critic had the courage to call out this hackneyed, thrill-free, stretched-out skit for what it is We must support black directors at all costs no matter how bereft of talent. this movie proves our meritocracy is a shambles at this point. Puzzling choices abound: why was an almost exact Dave Chapelle copy in the movie? Was that an inside joke? Dave Chapelle’s appearance to me does not engender any foreboding at all if anything his countenance brings instant mirth and mild chuckles.
Mainly I was left wondering what in the holy, Samuel-langhorn-hell Chelsea Peretti’s family did to Mr. “Banana” Peele in reality to deserve what can only be described as a thinly-veiled murderous rampage and savaging via screenplay?

Hispanics indisputably racially cleansed the blacks out of Compton, making the movie "Straight Outta Compton" essentially irrelevant before it opened. Nobody mentioned Compton was by then 80% Hispanic, and growing, thanks to the collective ass kicking blacks received by Hispanic boots, straight outta Compton!
After blacks were essentially eliminated, they even reopened the blacks failed Martin Luther King hospital, minus the majority black staff, and its now doing well.
Plenty of fodder for liberal outrage. Not a peep was heard as it was going on, or the aftermath of the now relatively low-crime, and thriving Compton.

It was the fantasy of many young Jewish men at the time. I hated that movie and it's message.

In the movie Joshua Then And Now, starring James Woods, there is a scene where a blonde WASP guy gets carted off in the back of a police truck while Woods’ Jewish character goes up to the guy’s girlfriend and grabs her and starts kissing her. At which point the WASP guy begins screaming, “YOU JEWISH BASTARD!!!!!” I’ll bet many young Jewish men watched that scene and got a little tingle from it.

That movie was directed by the guy that made the first Rambo movie, incidentally.

I am so sick and tired of Tom Hanks' movies. His smug goody two-shoes characters really grate on me. I got sucked into renting Sully but no more. He ruined even a good story like that one.

I agree about Tom Hanks generally and I was prepared to dislike Sully, but it was pretty good. The only PC part was that the pilots who recreated the flight in a simulator were women.

I liked it too. It's also interesting in iStevey ways because

    - the cast is all-white, pretty much, an amusing foil with La La Land to #oscarssoblack

    - it's set in Boston and the North Shore, Hollywood's favorite working class whitopias, now somewhat imaginary, also milked recently for Patriots Day with Mark Wahlberg (didn't see it, who wants to see such a thing, too soon)

    - Affleck bros / Matt Damon try hard to be super PC (Cambridge, MA, duh) but keep getting in trouble for doing anti-PC things

    - who is Kenneth Lonergan? half Jewish half Irish, his earlier movies sound interesting "You Can Count on Me" and "Margaret"

No doubt there is more, hey Steve you can do this better than me for sure!

I am a fan of Lonergan, but didn’t realize it for a long time. There was a substantial gap between each of his movies. I didn’t know Manchester was by the You Can Count on Me/Margaret guy until I saw it.

He made a splash in the early 2000s in the indie/awards circuits with You Can Count on Me. Presumably because it had a Strong Female Role for Laura Linney (a strong white female, but that was allowed at the time), and because they like screenwriters to resemble playwrights. (Or appear to.) Maybe he is a playwright; I wouldn’t know.

Then he disappeared for a decade, at least from my Hollywood consciousness. (Busy writing plays?) Something strange happened with Margaret, which came out a few years ago (2011?) on HBO. It had an obvious 9/11-y feel to it (tragedy in NYC, “what’s it all about?” type stuff), and Matt Damon looked about 10 years younger than he should have. Also, Damon had a smaller role than you’d think, which is a giveaway. I don’t know what happened, but obviously it was held back for some reason. Usually that reason is the movie sucks. Sometimes it’s good but they can’t figure out how to market it. Or it could have been something else. I liked Margaret, though it was overlong.

His movies are all alike. Talky domestic dramas surrounding young people dealing with death. (These aren’t really spoilers, as they’re more the premises.) In You Can Count on Me it’s a grown brother and sister who were orphaned at a young age. In Margaret it’s a teen who holds herself responsible for a woman being run over by a bus. In Manchester it’s a guy who’s compelled to take custody of his nephew after his brother dies, years after the death of his daughters, for which he feels responsible. Heavy stuff, but the movies are funny enough. Very indie and play-like, in that they’re not visually interesting but based on writing and performance. Also, not much seems to happen, until it does.

I can’t comment on the i-Steve-esque aspects very well. The first one is about a very rooted white woman in a small, New England town, and her rootless, drifter brother. The second is about an upper-middle class, private school attending, spoiled, Jewish (I think) teen and her famous stage actress mother in NYC. The third is about a working-class drunken Irishman and his surprisingly well-off though manually-laboring brother’s family.

There isn’t much of an SJW feel. There’re genuine anti-SJW themes, actually. You Can Count on Me Takes religion seriously, though the pastor is an easygoing Churchian type. There’s a great moment where the main character confesses, he says they don’t emphasize sin anymore, or whatever, and she’s all, “Maybe you should.”

The second one features Howard Zinn himself, as I recall, and makes him appear reasonable. But there’s also a Columbian (I think, played by Frenchman Jean Reno) suitor for the mother, who gets Watsoned for saying something about Jews. The audience is put in sympathy with him later. (Perhaps allowable because he was Columbian.) It also presents unflattering pictures of teachers, actresses, and lawyers. The cops come off okay.

I don’t remember enough about Manchester, though I’ve seen it more recently. There is a hysterical “rape culture” response from a female tenant when the main character, who is a handyman, runs afoul of her feminine superiority in the bathroom. Which is played for laughs.

Lonergan appears in all his movies, in more substantial roles in the earlier ones. He seems like an actual actor; it’s not a Hitchcock thing. Matthew Broderick also appears in all the movies, for whatever reason.

  69. Thanks for that!

    > “rape culture” response from a female tenant

It seemed less trendy than that expression suggests, more like the immemorial situation that occurs when a strangely good-looking and single janitor attracts various female tenants, with various reactions, including anger at rejection.

    > Talky domestic dramas surrounding young people dealing with death

It’s an effective device: horrible, unthinkable death infuses otherwise ordinary situations and characters with interest — a janitor, a fisherman, a kid growing up. It leaves open the possibility of happiness — even if some are denied it, through no real fault of their own.

In contrast, Moonlight, which I only saw the first part of, while nicely filmed, seemed relentlessly bleak.

In Peele’s dream world, white people who put him in his vaulted position are never to be trusted, even though, professionally, he was foisted higher than he should be, thanks to the cognitive dissonance of white liberal negrophelia.

The reality for white folks is, collectively, when given free choice, in many matters of social import, blacks always let white people down.

Shut up no one cares. People need to stop with this nitpicking Steve's posts. It's rude, disrespectful, and annoying. I don't even notice the typos because you know, I have a job and a life. I skim everything, like a normal person.

TLDR: The posts correcting the posts are infinitely more annoying than the actual mistakes themselves. And yes I know by regression that makes this the most annoying post EVARRR in the universe.

    > Shut up no one cares.

I care. And no need to be rude.

Also, I believe such nitpicking, as you call it, is most often intended constructively. When Steve applies a correction, it just makes his post ever-so-slightly better quality and credible, and avoids a distraction. The more perfect the grammar, the more solid the article. Even though form may seem irrelevant compared to content, appearances matter, duh.

And jeez, if you can’t be a grammar Nazi on a Nazi web site, where can you be one? I kid, I kid.

Re: Get Out. Why are American blacks so focused on whites only? Are there any other races represented in the "film"? No other hyphenated groups Worthy of depiction?

The movie technically seems quite amateurish and every bit the first effort that it is. The trailer Truly resembled an SNL skit to me at first glance. Not a particularly auspicious rookie opus because it should be noted that horror is the easiest genre to mimic. Just toss out a few cats thrown by a PA or wrangler and in some overly caffeinated trailer credits, and some requisite gore, violence, nudity, and minor seconds in the score and voila: there's your modern "scary" movie. Dave Chapelle's appearance to me does not engender any foreboding at all if anything his countenance brings instant mirth and mild chuckles.
Mainly I was left wondering what in the holy, Samuel-langhorn-hell Chelsea Peretti's family did to Mr. "Banana" Peele in reality to deserve what can only be described as a thinly-veiled murderous rampage and savaging via screenplay?

Re: Get Out. Why are American blacks so focused on whites only? Are there any other races represented in the “film”? No other hyphenated groups Worthy of depiction?

Hispanics indisputably racially cleansed the blacks out of Compton, making the movie “Straight Outta Compton” essentially irrelevant before it opened.
