In Coalition of the Margins news, from the New York Times:

Democrats Put Off Anti-Semitism Resolution After Fierce Backlash

Some Democrats say Representative Ilhan Omar is being singled out as a woman of color while Democratic leaders have let slide other racist and bigoted remarks.

By Sheryl Gay Stolberg and Glenn Thrush
March 6, 2019

WASHINGTON — House Democratic leaders have put off a vote on a resolution condemning anti-Semitism and bigotry after a backlash from rank-and-file lawmakers who said Representative Ilhan Omar, whose comments gave rise to the measure, was being unfairly singled out.

… As House Democrats questioned why their leaders had not moved earlier to condemn President Trump for his own racially charged comments, Mr. Trump weighed in on Twitter. Seeking to exploit divisions among Democrats, he chastised them for not taking an immediate and strong stand on anti-Semitism.

“It is shameful that House Democrats won’t take a stronger stand against Anti-Semitism in their conference,” Mr. Trump wrote. “Anti-Semitism has fueled atrocities throughout history and it’s inconceivable they will not act to condemn it!” …

But Mr. Trump has been accused repeatedly of trafficking in anti-Semitic tropes. His 2016 campaign tweeted out an image of Hillary Clinton in front of a Jewish star, over a pile of money. …

Earlier in the day, Democrats, including some prominent African-Americans, confronted Speaker Nancy Pelosi at a testy closed-door meeting, demanding to know why they were being pushed to pass the resolution when bigoted comments by Republicans have gone unchallenged. …

In other words, Democrats suddenly realized they could unite their feuding Coalition of the Fringes around the assertion that Republicans are the Real Racists! Why haven’t the Democrats ever before stumbled upon this solution to their internal problems?

“Islamophobia needs to be included” in the anti-Semitism resolution, she told reporters on Wednesday. “We need to denounce all forms of hate. There is no hierarchy of hurt.”

Oh, yes, there is. But it’s just not in the Democrats’ interest to disclose the exact makeup of the Intersectional Pyramid, other than straight white gentile males are at the bottom.

… Instead, according to multiple people present, it turned into a gripe session over the treatment of Ms. Omar by her own party.

“What would be the appropriate level of punishment — a public flogging?” Representative Raúl Grijalva of Arizona, the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, asked in an interview after the meeting.

… The resolution began as a response to Ms. Omar’s suggestion last week that pro-Israel activists were pushing “for allegiance to a foreign country,” a remark that her critics say played into the anti-Semitic trope of “dual loyalty.”

… By Tuesday night, with members of the Congressional Black Caucus and the Congressional Progressive Caucus pushing back, it became clear to Ms. Pelosi that the measure would have to be rewritten to include a condemnation of anti-Muslim bias. (Ms. Omar, who has been facing accusations of anti-Semitic bias for weeks, has herself been the target of Islamophobic attacks, including a death threat in Minnesota.)

But that was not enough for many lawmakers, especially African-Americans who see Ms. Omar getting singled out as a woman of color, while Democratic leaders have let slide other racist and bigoted remarks — including those of President Trump.

Yeah, how come we never ever hear any Democrats criticize Trump? Huh?

According to several people in the room, a number of African-American representatives stood up to challenge Ms. Pelosi. …

Toward the end of the meeting, the first person said, Representative Cedric L. Richmond, Democrat of Louisiana and another African-American, asked why leaders were pushing for a resolution condemning bigotry while ignoring other pressing matters, like the treatment of young black men by the police.

Yeah, how come no Democrat has ever mentioned that black lives matter?

And Representative Jan Schakowsky, Democrat of Illinois, who is white, made a plea for members to think twice before taking to social media to express controversial opinions, or risk dividing Democrats in a way that enables Republicans to exploit those divisions. “Can we not do this on Twitter?” she asked to laughter.

It’s almost as if the Democrats have assembled an unstable coalition of hostile groups — Jews, Muslims, transgenders, black church ladies, tech billionaires, felons, etc etc — united only by their hatred of Core Americans.

It's encouraging to see Ezra Klein take such a bold stand against Jews playing the "anti-semitism" card to stifle any criticism of their control over American political discourse. That is what he's referring to, right?

"dominant groups who feel their power and status is being threatened..."

    Ezra, you are a retard.

Our "power and status is (sic) not threatened. They are pre-eminent.

Why don't you Jews throw in the towel? Come clean and admit that your one-eye-in-the-sky desert God has lost the battle. Who really rules? Look around you. Are we pastoralists who worship a goat or sheep herding God? No, we're not.

We, you and me, worship Thor and his hammer. Our northern metal technology has won the day. Technology rules. Your Jewish values have fallen by the wayside. You live in a country that enshrines our values. You were educated at our schools. You enjoy the daily material benefits of our inventive genius. You have adopted our lifestyle; you are steeped in it. You may as well go all the way and worship at our altar.

Most of you Ashkenazi progressive Jews have lost faith in your ineffectual desert God anyway. And rightfully so. He failed. He has no message for people living in a technical age.

Since your God is dead, Ezra, you should wise up and convert to the one true religion, i.e. worship of our Nordic Gods: Thor, Odin, Frigg etc. If you're going to live like a Norseman, among Norsemen, then it only makes sense that you adopt our religion. In doing so you stand a chance of becoming a whole man, integrated in body and soul--and this is always a worthy existential goal. Who knows? It may even cure your innate Jewish neuroticism--that's asking a lot, but one can hope, and with Odin behind you, anything is possible. Just look at what we have achieved.

They'll have to carry Pelosi out of her office in a plastic bag. Her job is to prevent one of these non-white racist nuts from becoming the face of the Democratic party before whites become a minority of voters. Don't kid yourself about her being on the way out, the only way she is going would be due to health reasons. When she goes the party goes full third-world. We'll see if stupid white people will still vote for it in any numbers.

  7. I remember when it first became fashionable to defend the Islamic invasion of Spain, because supposedly became a great place for Jews (Christian feelings were, naturally, irrelevant). Actually, it wasn’t, really. Jews had about the same status as in any other part of Europe: middlemen.

However, it could seem like the Jews were higher status if you look at it from today’s perspective, because they were above the Christians. Yet when you consider that they were below the Muslims, of whom there were many in Spain, and who probably constituted a majority in important cities where most Jews lived, it wasn’t all that awesome.

So it seems that we are coming full circle, with Jews once again learning the joys and wonders of submission to Islam.

The Umayyad Muslims *used* the Jews.
They had no choice in Spain. Conquered Syria, Egypt, and Mesopotamia had plenty of educated people, Greeks and Persians, with the governmental and bureaucratic experience that the Arabs lacked. In Dark Ages Europe, the pickings were a lot slimmer thanks to the civilizational collapse and relapse into illiterate barbarism that accompanied the fall of Rome. This is part of why Islamic Spain was confined to the peninsula, though not the biggest reason.

(The biggest reason was that the new dynasty had just held a massive dinner party over the corpses of 80 of al-Rahman's relatives after tricking them to coming to a party where in the belief that they'd be pardoned. Al-Rahman himself was insanely lucky to make it away from the death squads alive. So, to say that Umayyad Spain was a little estranged from the Abbassids is like saying the Atlantic Ocean is a little wet. Pan-Muslim jihad from Spain was impossible after 750-and even was a tall order before. Constantinople was way more important than Tours.)

They didn't like them any more than the European Christians did-or any more than your typical Indonesian likes a rich cukong. See the Grenada pogroms for an example of what happened when the caliph felt the Jews were getting too uppity and needed to be reminded of their place.

As for modern times, Jews with a basic connection to reality understand that the "we want to kill you" variant of anti-Semitism in 2019 is mostly not going to be found among white gentiles, but rather among underclass Muslim immigrants in Europe or in the Islamic World. That would be pretty much all Israelis and European Jews, and probably a bigger proportion of American Jews than one would guess. The latter is not the kind likely to get media attention, though: or be part of the media.

You cannot support the principles of the modern Democratic party and also support Israel in its current form. That’s not a judgment of either Israel or the Democrats, but just the reality. Jewish Democrats have managed to square the circle up until now, but how much further can they possibly go when Israel grows more ethnocentric and reactionary by the day? And it’s not clear what form the breakaway will take: even Bari Weiss is making anti-Netanyahu tweets.

Very good point. Systems that fail quite often fail in unanticipated ways. The more complex the system, the more likely this is.

We've been looking at Trump vs. Democrats as a failure point. Could be that Trump's new emphasis on greatly increasing legal immigration is a trade with Republican donors. They get a replacement population, Trump gets a promise from them to protect him once he's out of office. Probably won't work, but Trump just might not be a revolutionary fighter, and probably didn't understand that his campaign promises amounted to him claiming to be a revolutionary fighter. Had he understood that, he'd have fought before now. Of course, changing legal quotas wouldn't matter if there were no enforced borders, so maybe the Republican backers he's courting, or even Trump himself, are going for population replacement via legal immigration and don't see that population replacement is the real issue for Trump's voters, or at least don't see that Trump's voters will see through the subtrifuge.

Not that the Republicans have no legitimate complaint. The American workforce (including the Jewish workforce) has no necessity to drive it to excellence, and so is not excellent. Thank government subsidies of self destructive behavior for that. Every time it is necessary to make a hard decision (should I reduce myself to a fatigue fog studying, or should I switch to another major?), the Feds encourage the easier immediate choice with the worse long term consequence. That's destroyed the US workforce. The overseas workforce is actually worse, but US management can't see that -- they're not a very competent bunch [1].

But suppose that the failure mechanism is simply an attempt by various Democratic constituencies to, as a commentator here put it, stop "wearing whiteface" and go full out revolutionary on their own? I mean, California has actually gone full out revolutionary already, by passing a State law that makes cooperation with Federal officials by California citizens a criminal offense. The Old South got the 101st Airborne called down on their necks for a lot less than that [2]. Why not the Somali neighborhoods in Minneapolis? Or, for that matter, why not NYC, which could survive well enough from international trade if they could take the nearby container port. Hell, they'd branch out to serious smuggling, maybe a bit of light cross border raiding ("home invasions"), and they'd do a lot better then they are now [3]. Or maybe not, but they still might try.

That would be a real surprise, but, hey, that's the nature of complex systems: thrills, chills, and the occasional spills.

I'm not so optimistic. But it will be interesting to see what happens.

Organized Jewish political action in this country seems to coalesce around three main issues: (1) Pro-Israel/Zionist activity; (2) promoting policies that the Jewish elites feel favor Jewish interests, e.g., encouraging immigration to reduce the power of the current White, Christian majority and stifling free speech and other political activity that is perceived as being a threat in any way to Jewish interests; and (3) The traditional leftist, counter cultural programs to which Jews have always been drawn.

Individual Jews and Jewish organizations have extraordinary resources for promoting these agendas: enormous wealth and control of the mass media, entertainment industries, financial industries, higher echelons of the federal bureaucracy by individual Jews in positions of power and influence. Beyond this, the Jewish community is highly organized by Jewish institutions such as AIPAC and the ADL and a general tendency towards racial and ethnic cohesion. This is a powerful force multiplier of Jewish political strength.

How these resources will be deployed if the Democrat's "coalition of the fringes" finally turns on the Party's Zionist fifth column is unclear. Zionist fifth column support may shift to the Republican Party, whose establishment is already infested with a rats nests of neocons, in reality not much more than Zionists by another name. However, the new Trump base may not be happy with other Jewish political baggage, e.g., policies promoting Jewish interests at the expense of other citizens and the generally leftward tilt of most Jews. The new Democrat base may be more happy with these Jewish causes. Or maybe not.

How these resources will be deployed if the Democrat’s “coalition of the fringes” finally turns on the Party’s Zionist fifth column is unclear.

The Jewish Lobby brought out its big "anti-semitism" guns in a way that has always won in the past. But the more numerous (if less well-funded) Black/POC Lobby said "Thanks for the input, but we're actually in charge now."

This seems like a humiliating power-shift for a group that has always taken its ultimate control for granted. Once this facade of power is broken, it will be hard to reassemble in the future.

It's too soon to say for sure, but the demotion of Jews to second-tier status in the victim pecking order may be upon us.

“dominant groups who feel their power and status is being threatened…”

    Ezra, you are a retard.

Our “power and status is (sic) not threatened. They are pre-eminent.

Why don’t you Jews throw in the towel? Come clean and admit that your one-eye-in-the-sky desert God has lost the battle. Who really rules? Look around you. Are we pastoralists who worship a goat or sheep herding God? No, we’re not.

If you’re going to live like a Norseman, among Norsemen, then it only makes sense that you adopt our religion. In doing so you stand a chance of becoming a whole man, integrated in body and soul–and this is always a worthy existential goal. Who knows? It may even cure your innate Jewish neuroticism–that’s asking a lot, but one can hope, and with Odin behind you, anything is possible. Just look at what we have achieved.

Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows. And history sometimes plays out in weird ways. So it's not impossible that the regressive muzzies may be the poison pill that actually kills the current anti-white coalition.

In the past I’ve wondered whether based/closet Nazi Europeans have engineered this situation deliberately. I doubt it, but it’s interesting idea, since it seems to be working out that way, especially in France.

    See the Grenada pogroms…

This is potentially a watershed moment. Omar didn't blink. Pelosi backed down. The non-white wing of the Democratic party are starting to feel their muscles.

You cannot support the principles of the modern Democratic party and also support Israel in its current form. That's not a judgment of either Israel or the Democrats, but just the reality. Jewish Democrats have managed to square the circle up until now, but how much further can they possibly go when Israel grows more ethnocentric and reactionary by the day? And it's not clear what form the breakaway will take: even Bari Weiss is making anti-Netanyahu tweets.

You cannot support the principles of the modern Democratic party and also support Israel in its current form. That’s not a judgment of either Israel or the Democrats, but just the reality.

Very good point. Systems that fail quite often fail in unanticipated ways. The more complex the system, the more likely this is.

We’ve been looking at Trump vs. Democrats as a failure point. Could be that Trump’s new emphasis on greatly increasing legal immigration is a trade with Republican donors. They get a replacement population, Trump gets a promise from them to protect him once he’s out of office. Probably won’t work, but Trump just might not be a revolutionary fighter, and probably didn’t understand that his campaign promises amounted to him claiming to be a revolutionary fighter. Had he understood that, he’d have fought before now. Of course, changing legal quotas wouldn’t matter if there were no enforced borders, so maybe the Republican backers he’s courting, or even Trump himself, are going for population replacement via legal immigration and don’t see that population replacement is the real issue for Trump’s voters, or at least don’t see that Trump’s voters will see through the subtrifuge.

That’s destroyed the US workforce. The overseas workforce is actually worse, but US management can’t see that — they’re not a very competent bunch [1].

But suppose that the failure mechanism is simply an attempt by various Democratic constituencies to, as a commentator here put it, stop “wearing whiteface” and go full out revolutionary on their own? I mean, California has actually gone full out revolutionary already, by passing a State law that makes cooperation with Federal officials by California citizens a criminal offense. The Old South got the 101st Airborne called down on their necks for a lot less than that [2]. Why not the Somali neighborhoods in Minneapolis? Or, for that matter, why not NYC, which could survive well enough from international trade if they could take the nearby container port. Hell, they’d branch out to serious smuggling, maybe a bit of light cross border raiding (“home invasions”), and they’d do a lot better then they are now [3]. Or maybe not, but they still might try.

That would be a real surprise, but, hey, that’s the nature of complex systems: thrills, chills, and the occasional spills.

Problem is they don’t have any shabbos authority figures to police this congresswoman: She has at least three layers of strong ingroup identity that make her immune to Jewish coercion.

Whites are the weakest ingroup with shabbos authority figures all over the place ready to pounce like Senator McCarthy did to the Iowa congressman Steve King.

Also notice how Senator Nita Lowey immediately played the victim card saying “how hurtful” were the comments by the congresswoman. IT’S HURTFUL TO ACCUSE JEWS OF BEING THE DOMINANT POWER IN CONGRESS.

When whites are accused of “white supremacy” it seems they rarely respond “how hurtful are your comments”……

  37. Maybe, the white-male bashing will keep Republican Party’s numbers up, resulting in a keeper tax cut for corporations, heirs and dual-earner parents. But Republicans may lose more votes than they think due to failing to stop illegal immigration. Even if the Trump Administration, the Republican Senate and the Republican House had built more than a big-beautiful-door-sized wall, voters would not be fooled by any upsurge in legal immigration. They would see any increase in legal immigration and, ultimately, in visa overstays as just making up the difference in cheap, welfare-aided, wage-undercutting labor.

Trump voters probably will never see any progress on that issue until it becomes apparent to the wealthy that the more womb-productive immigrants pour in here, the more socialism will be needed….and demanded. It will cut into that tax cut, particularly since automation is eliminating so many jobs. We’re not just going to need more pay-per-birth freebies. To accomodate mass immigration, we’re going to need more than just housing assistance, EBT, electrcity assistance, monthly cash assistance and up to $6,431 in refundable child tax credit cash. We will also need more forms of unemployment compensation and the elimination of the SS-taxation cap. As automation keeps eating away at full-time jobs, there will be fewer people paying into the fund, but more recipients due to all of this immigration.

From what I have been able to pick up, if you can shoehorn a statement into an antisemitic “trope,” then you do not have to continue on and show that the statement is false. Mere tropiness is sufficient, and if tropiness is confirmed, truth or falseness are irrelevant.

This obviously makes the keeper of the tropes a very important person. The book of tropes is more important than the Talmud these days.

NYC is one of the great city states of the world. It would be a great success on its own.

It might or it might not. The only way to find out would be to try it.

One of my themes here is that big cities are economically functionless (which is a bit worse than just "obsolete") and a major security risk. If that's right, then NYC independent would become an actual danger, in much the same way that an abscessed tooth makes the whole body sick.

    Here's how that works:

    a) Economically functionless
The "economically functionless" part comes from Marc Levinson [1]. He describes containerization and, inter allia, shows that contemporary port and transshipment cities ("cities" for the rest of this posting) have no intrinsic economic significance. Right now, this part applies mainly to cities in the established industrialized countries and to the various third world cities. Much of the Asian economic development comes from piecework by city populations.
Historically, cities have been transshipment points, places where items have to be transferred from one form of transport (for example, ships) to another form (say, railroads). This was done by unloading ships, storing the load in waterfront warehouses, and eventually shipping it to its multiple points of use. Typically, small businesses in the cities would buy from the warehouse, assemble consumer or industrial goods, and then sell those, shipping (in this example) by rail. The NYC garment district could serve as an example. These firms had a raw materials cost advantage over similar firms located outside the city, and also (usually) a larger pool of skilled specialist workers. These advantages offset the diseconomies of city manufacturing -- even when they were enormous, such as an infant mortality in London of about 3 in 4 babies during the early 1800s.
That's all changed. Containerization has (a) moved the unloading points to large yards outside of the city, and (b) made it uneconomic to sell only part of a container to city manufacturers. Containers are sent to large installations sited away from city diseconomies (which, today, are high transportation costs, taxes, land costs, etc.). "Poof" goes city manufacturing, leaving only political and financial importance. The NYC docks are gone, so are the warehouses, so are the manufacturing plants, so are the tax revenues.
I was there, working in the garment district, back in the late 1960s when Ford told NYC "Drop dead" after NYC asked for a handout, and a section of the West Side Drive simply fell 40 feet to the ground one fine night because nobody had maintained it. The above situation (no manufacturing, and for that matter no cut-cost retail in cities) has persisted for quite some time.
City importance today is political and financial, both of which don't require the city population. The bulk of the city population has become as parasitic as that of c.a. AD 300. There's a line from "there shall come soft rains" [2] that applies _economically_ to the population of contemporary cities, worldwide:
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree
    If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
    Would scarcely know
    that we were gone.

Remember, this is true worldwide. Much of the population growth has gone into cities (as has much of the trans-national immigration). National regimes must keep their city populations quiescent to survive, and that -- threat of imposing negative value -- is why cities are important. That's why burning down your own neighborhood can be a very profitable move for city populations, no matter where they are, but perhaps mostly in the industrialized countries (USA, UK, France).

    b] Strategically vulnerable.
Copley [3] points out that the city populations have grown so much that, in practice, the welfare of rural populations is no longer of political importance. This is worldwide, mind you. Last time this happened we got events like the holodomor [4] and the Great Leap Forward [5]. Last time, the cities were important economically. This time, it's a bit different, at least in the established industrialized countries. Manufacturing is now in the countryside. Should something happen to the cities, well, in many cases it would make little long term difference. In Copley's terms, the cities have lost "autarky". They no longer have the support of a hinterland capable of supplying their needs. The hinterland is now hostile (e.g. Trump supporters, e.g. Yellow vests).
By the same token, the cities are as vulnerable to a supply interruption as Late Antiquity Rome was to the destruction of its aqueducts. Perhaps more so -- attacks on the SCADA systems of urban electrical power systems could be launched from a world away, possibly by non-state actors who could supplement the SCADA attack with destruction of key equipment. You know the story, it's been published often enough.

So: we have unnecessary cities that are actively hurting the countryside (if you want to consider population replacement as "hurting"). Not good, or, in Copley's terms, a "strategic weakness".

This is an old problem, goes back to classical civilization in Late Antiquity (and considerably further).
The usual examples are Rome or Constantinople. (Other civilizations had similar problems, but usually the cities were simply conquered, sacked, looted, burned -- and that ended the problem. Alexandria was notoriously ungovernable by Constantinople before the Islamic Conquest, but the Islamics seem to have had no trouble in administering it or, a bit later, utterly transforming it.)
Rome lasted an amazingly long time, even after it became a plague driven population sink and the Ostrogoths conquered Italy. Eventually (c.a. AD 540), during the Siege of Rome [6] (Eastern Empire vs. Ostrogoths), Rome's aqueducts were destroyed, and afterwards (since the city produced nothing important), nobody rebuilt them and the city depopulated and stayed depopulated.
Constantinople's population was also a welfare population, and it's political importance lasted until about the same time as Rome, when Justinian's general Belisarius decisively defeated an attempt at removing the Emperor Justinian by dividing the two factions, then killed about 30 thousand of one of the factions (contents of the Hippodrome) [7]. Shortly after that the Justinian Plague started [8] and Constantinople massively depopulated, but Justinian had the political control he needed to maintain the Imperial government.
Hard to say which of the two endings had the highest body count.

    c) Failed state

The point being that large cities with only political and financial importance tend to last a long time, but are vulnerable to various Thom catastrophes [9. They last until the need massive recapitalization, and then they fail and are not revived. The failure can be existence of the city population, or organization of the city population.
It’s my guess that an attempt at independence by NYC would, in fact, be a Thom catastrophe.
The US could end up with a major failed state, sitting right at the mouth of the Hudson River.

I may start voting for mooslims for the same reason I voted for Trump, just to send a message.

Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows. And history sometimes plays out in weird ways. So it's not impossible that the regressive muzzies may be the poison pill that actually kills the current anti-white coalition.

Won’t happen. The MSM will simply pivot and start trumpeting examples of muslims saying and doing ‘anti-semitic’ things. Sit back and watch.

  46. @Anon
Is there an official list of antisemitic "tropes" somewhere"? On the ADL site, maybe?

From what I have been able to pick up, if you can shoehorn a statement into an antisemitic "trope," then you do not have to continue on and show that the statement is false. Mere tropiness is sufficient, and if tropiness is confirmed, truth or falseness are irrelevant.

This obviously makes the keeper of the tropes a very important person. The book of tropes is more important than the Talmud these days.

    HOLD THE PRESSES:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antisemitic_canard

Wikipedia has a list of antisemitic "canards." Are canards the same as tropes? Maybe canards are 20th century, tropes 21st century? Trope : Canard :: Showrunner : Executive Producer?

The problem is, there are only 21 canards. But number 14 is "Cowardice and Lack of Patriotism."

    Maybe 21 is enough.

Gotta love how much of Wiki is written by ADL operatives & fellow travelers.

Tony Blair’s odious New Labour was really nothing more than a piss-poor Clinton Democrat neo-liberal globalist manque. Rightly, it was rejected by the UK electorate – and the Labour Party membership – when they woke up and realised what it was all about.

Now it seems that the contemporary Democrat Party is imitating the hard left/Marxist anti-zionist Corbynite Labour Party.

Pelosi is toast. Members don't challenge Speakers unless the Speaker is on the way out.

So who will succeed her? My bet is on AOC as she has lots of cash to lay our.

Already Harris and Booker are debating who is Blacker and who is not Black enough.

They’ll have to carry Pelosi out of her office in a plastic bag. Her job is to prevent one of these non-white racist nuts from becoming the face of the Democratic party before whites become a minority of voters. Don’t kid yourself about her being on the way out, the only way she is going would be due to health reasons. When she goes the party goes full third-world. We’ll see if stupid white people will still vote for it in any numbers.

During the civil war the NYC sessionists even had the name picked, Trilandia for manhattan, staten and Long Island

NYC is one of the great city states of the world. It would be a great success on its own. It’s not American anyway and we’d be well rid of it.

NYC is one of the great city states of the world. It would be a great success on its own.

It might or it might not. The only way to find out would be to try it.

One of my themes here is that big cities are economically functionless (which is a bit worse than just “obsolete”) and a major security risk. If that’s right, then NYC independent would become an actual danger, in much the same way that an abscessed tooth makes the whole body sick.

    Here’s how that works:

    a) Economically functionless

The “economically functionless” part comes from Marc Levinson [1]. He describes containerization and, inter allia, shows that contemporary port and transshipment cities (“cities” for the rest of this posting) have no intrinsic economic significance.
These advantages offset the diseconomies of city manufacturing — even when they were enormous, such as an infant mortality in London of about 3 in 4 babies during the early 1800s.
That’s all changed. Containerization has (a) moved the unloading points to large yards outside of the city, and (b) made it uneconomic to sell only part of a container to city manufacturers. Containers are sent to large installations sited away from city diseconomies (which, today, are high transportation costs, taxes, land costs, etc.). “Poof” goes city manufacturing, leaving only political and financial importance. The NYC docks are gone, so are the warehouses, so are the manufacturing plants, so are the tax revenues.
I was there, working in the garment district, back in the late 1960s when Ford told NYC “Drop dead” after NYC asked for a handout, and a section of the West Side Drive simply fell 40 feet to the ground one fine night because nobody had maintained it. The above situation (no manufacturing, and for that matter no cut-cost retail in cities) has persisted for quite some time.
City importance today is political and financial, both of which don’t require the city population. The bulk of the city population has become as parasitic as that of c.a. AD 300. There’s a line from “there shall come soft rains” [2] that applies _economically_ to the population of contemporary cities, worldwide:
Not one would mind, neither bird nor tree
    If mankind perished utterly;
And Spring herself, when she woke at dawn,
    Would scarcely know
    that we were gone.

Remember, this is true worldwide. Much of the population growth has gone into cities (as has much of the trans-national immigration). National regimes must keep their city populations quiescent to survive, and that — threat of imposing negative value — is why cities are important. That’s why burning down your own neighborhood can be a very profitable move for city populations, no matter where they are, but perhaps mostly in the industrialized countries (USA, UK, France).

    b] Strategically vulnerable.
Copley [3] points out that the city populations have grown so much that, in practice, the welfare of rural populations is no longer of political importance. This is worldwide, mind you. Last time this happened we got events like the holodomor [4] and the Great Leap Forward [5]. Last time, the cities were important economically. This time, it’s a bit different, at least in the established industrialized countries. Manufacturing is now in the countryside. Should something happen to the cities, well, in many cases it would make little long term difference. In Copley’s terms, the cities have lost “autarky”.
Perhaps more so — attacks on the SCADA systems of urban electrical power systems could be launched from a world away, possibly by non-state actors who could supplement the SCADA attack with destruction of key equipment. You know the story, it’s been published often enough.

So: we have unnecessary cities that are actively hurting the countryside (if you want to consider population replacement as “hurting”). Not good, or, in Copley’s terms, a “strategic weakness”.
