NYT Editorial Board Discovers How to Solve Campus Rape Crisis: Make Applying to College More Comfortable for Criminals
Search Text Case Sensitive  Exact Words  Include Comments

As we all know, the Campus Rape Crisis is one of the gravest problems of our age. Fortunately, the New York Times Editorial Board has come up with a surefire solution:

College Applications and Criminal Records
By THE EDITORIAL BOARD MARCH 14, 2015

Americans who have criminal histories are often stymied when they encounter college entry applications that ask if they have ever been convicted of crimes. The process, which often brings greater scrutiny to people who answer “yes,” is driving away large numbers of people who present no danger to campus safety and are capable of succeeding academically.

Heightened concern on campuses about criminal records can be traced in part to the 1986 murder of Jeanne Clery, a 19-year-old who was killed in her dormitory at Lehigh University. The killer did not have a criminal conviction record. Congress responded by passing the Clery Act in 1990, requiring schools to publicly report violence on campus.

The practice of collecting criminal history information on applications became common a decade ago, after questions about an applicant’s criminal convictions were added in 2006 to the Common Application, now used by nearly 500 colleges. …

The study notes that “the power of label and stigma, which shapes the life experiences of people with criminal history records in 21st-century America, discourages many from trying to push open doors that seem locked tight.” It calls on the State University of New York and all colleges to exclude the criminal history question from applications and end the use of that information in admissions decisions.

Society needs to stop asking college applicants about their criminal convictions and cut to the heart of the cause of the Campus Rape Crisis. All college applications should instead ask:

Is your name Haven Monahan?

But these articles just make me laugh and do another shot these days.

Your average criminal is a lazy son of bitch who'd rather rattle doorknobs than use a crowbar, which he's probably forgotten to bring with him anyway.

Just because you as a parent are planning on paying $120,000 in college expenses does not mean you have the right to shelter you daughter from the diverse learning opportunities of hanging out with real ex teenage crack dealers.

One can imagine SJW admissions officers simply drooling over prospect of bringing to campus a 23 year old freshman ex heroin dealer with a weapons possession conviction.

Just think of the things your daughter could learn from him.

I got a better idea how about some of these promising young men being given the opportunity of working as camp counselors at that expensive elite Jewish summer camp that Sabrina Rubin Erdely sends her kids to? They can work right along side the gay scoutmasters those bigots at the Boy Scouts of America won’t accept.

    That is a good idea.

If Johnny Castle could get a bunch of uppity Borscht Belters to loosen up and dance, think about what a gang of ultra-rhythmic brothas could do for the Erdely spawn and their campmates.

    Because there really aren't any.

The funny thing is that war against the Boy Scouts of America is mostly case of pure Jewish ethnocentrism run amok. Because we all know that the BSA is a hot bed of implicit white Christian patriotic nationalism and we all know what can lead to.

Regional Boy Scout Councils have been sued by droves of ambulance chasing lawyers, of a particular ethnic persuasion mind you, for not being aggressive enough in rooting out possible gay pederasts as scoutmasters.

Dubious lawsuits by former , now gay themselves ex-scouts, alleging abuse decades ago by pederast troop leaders have resulted in huge legal fees and out of court settlements in order to avoid "Bronx juries".

  13. The next couple decades are going to be genuinely awful for guys with 70 IQs and criminal records. It’s not crazy to worry about that, but applying antidiscrimination law to criminal records sounds to me like a pretty good way to finish off the legitimacy of antidiscrimination law in most peoples’ eyes. (The increasing concentration of power in the US may mean that doesn’t matter, though.)

  14. I don’t think the Campus Rape Crisis is being caused by those convicted of crimes.

Once you do the time, it shouldn’t be held against you.

Snort. There is no “Campus Rape Crisis”; there is an ongoing War Against Men via the promotion of Regret Rape, and various feminist inspired Campus Rape Hoaxes.

If there is a Campus Real Rape Crisis, it is from NAMs and other protected groups, not from the straight white male Christian population who are the target of the bogus Campus Rape Crisis narrative.

We also have to keep in mind that juvenile criminal records are kept secret (thus although Trayvon Martin was in fact on his way to becoming a career criminal, none of his crimes were public record and thus the MSM could pretend that he was a harmless child). If you have a public criminal record, it means you are stupid enough not to take the hint after you hit 18, and getting a college education should be the least of your concerns.

People who say “once you do the time, it shouldn’t be held against you” are the type of people who expect other people to endure the risk of increased exposure to violent criminals. They aren’t going to put their money where their mouth is.

Go read about the background of the Clery act. It is not an unnecessary law.
  16. I think the reasonable solution would be to have a specific bar for criminal convictions that schools would look at. For example, if unobtainable juvenile records are involved, then there’s no point in checking the box. Minor alcohol and/or marijuana convictions may be handled the same way, depending on how a school wishes to proceed.

On the other hand, certain crimes, such as any kind of violent felony, or any kind of drug dealing, should be stigmatized; not because people who have been convicted of such crimes cannot redeem themselves (of course they can) but rather because parents aren’t going to want to send their children to a school that has violent felons at freshmen orientation.

The fact that Jeanne Clery’s murderer did not have a criminal record is irrelevant. The purpose of the legislation is meant to protect students from potentially violent and/or dangerous fellow students, and criminal convictions are one way to track that. That is why the box is on the application. Not for any other reason.

It’s all well and good for the Times to suggest that we should get rid of the box. But parents, being parents, will make their own choices, and a college that is perceived as lacking vigilance in this area will see its applications dwindle.

Look if a school suspects that a kid has a criminal or just shady past, there are ways to handle it that still leaves options open for the rare kid who truly is trying to turn his life around and has college potential.

How about a community or commuter college for a year or two. Show you can do college work before be going to a four year residential university.

Also in the old days kids with troubled pasts could join the military. Of course the downsized military has a serious job to do and does not want to be over burdened with society's problems. But again perhaps an exception can be made for kids with demonstrated aptitude and some post high school education.

  17. Back around 2003 or ’04 a friend who was working at UCLA told me about a program the SJW’s thought up . The idea was to bring in trash from the LA ghettos for campus tours in order to inspire them to become scholars . Do I have to tell you the result ? Three of the Negros broke away from the tour and raped a student (Asian I believe) . I don’t know if the ill conceived program continued after that or not . In away it was successful in that it did expose them to new opportunities .

A 2003 book by retired FBI Agent William J. Rehder “Where the Money Is: True Tales from the Bank Robbery Capital of the World” was quite entertaining and I can recommend it . At one point he talks about the gangs using juveniles to rob banks on the theory that they couldn’t really do much time if they got caught and if they get away with it the “masterminds’ get the money . Mr. Rehder said one problem with using the juveniles as witnesses was that in some cases they actually didn’t know the names of the days of the week . You can see the problem with that on the witness stand . I bet that in the remotest Afghan village the children know the days of the week yet here in the USA we have managed to raise up a class of humans so degenerate that their spawn don’t know one day from another .

It is a form of ‘Don’t ask, Don’t tell’ for diversity policies.

Now Theresa Sullivan and UVA ( who are both in the PC spotlight again tonight) may not want a Haven Monahan on campus but they do want a vibrant and diverse student body. While it is relatively easy to find college aged black females with no criminal history who can be affirmative actioned into our leading colleges and universities; due to racism, the cohort of young black males with no criminal history and above room temperature IQ’s are becoming a scarce commodity.

If you are a college admissions officer ( or the school football or basketball coach) this presents a dilemma. Allow Trayvonious Kenyatta Johnson to enroll and overlook his arrests for aggravated battery, drug dealing or sexual battery and the school’s got a problem if the same or a similar offense happens again on campus or to another student and the victim retains a lawyer. Deny the young black scholar admission and the school loses student loan revenue or risks a DOJ civil rights investigation and a weakness at the position of cornerback or forward opposing teams can exploit.

The Incarceration to Education Coalition of NYU Students, Alumni, Faculty, and Supporters demand that New York University end admissions practices that discriminate against people based on their criminal histories.

Citizens returning from prison have done their time and want to move on with their lives. Pursuing higher education is one pathway to do so, but formerly incarcerated individuals applying to universities like New York University face the major barrier of having to disclose their criminal history when applying to college. It is unfair to “screen-out” and thus further marginalize those who are attempting to pursue education simply because they were once incarcerated or have a criminal record.

Beyond that, this policy is not a practice grounded in empirical evidence and does not promote public safety in any way. In fact, the leading research in this field reflects that college education during or after prison is related to reduced recidivism rates, strengthened family ties, increased positive role models, and augmented leadership development in communities devastated by the impact of incarceration.

The United States of America incarcerates more of its citizens than any other country in the world, and people of color are grossly overrepresented in the system. With such aggressive jailing practices that impact millions of Americans often unfairly, it is another affront to justice to further penalize people who are trying to re-integrate into society by pursuing higher education.

Therefore, we, The Incarceration to Education Coalition of NYU Students, Alumni, Faculty and Supporters, insist that New York University provide an application that does not include the discriminatory "box" nor ask applicants any question(s) pertaining to past adjudication, guilt, or conviction of a misdemeanor, felony, or other prior offense.

Pure symbolism. How many 17-18 y/o qualified applicants to NYU (or similar) are rejected, but for no other reason, because they checked "the box"? A solution in search of a problem.

The next step in the demand for non-discrimination will be for admission acceptances made on the basis of a random lottery of the applicant names. No judgments, and all that.

  26. There are far too many people being admitted to colleges and universities now. They have lowered their standards and are paying the price. Colleges and universities used to be mainly for higher education….now not so much.

While it is relatively easy to find college aged black females with no criminal history who can be affirmative actioned into our leading colleges and universities; due to racism, the cohort of young black males with no criminal history and above room temperature IQ’s are becoming a scarce commodity.

You made several good points in your comment.

But more importantly the up tier schools that the NYT Editorial board and its readership are going to be sending their precious kids to are going to be able to still find ways to weed out those with criminal records. Private detectives anyone??? When Sabrina Rubin Erdely's kids go to college you can rest assured they are not going to be sharing a freshman dorm with an "ex" crack dealer.

However the rubes and goyim who can only afford to see their kids attend state schools are going to find a few ex gangbangers sprinkled in amongst them.

Of course this is just a planned extension of what Holder's JD is already doing by demanding that school districts across the country report cases of school discipline and expulsion in order to root out cases of racial bias.

Terrified of the Eye of Soros reports are flooding in from across the nation that Holder's moves to scrutinize k-12 school disciple for racial bias is resulting in shocking levels of increased violence against both students and teachers.

    See http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/03/18/obama-administrations-race-based-discipline-policies-increase-school-violence/

What other options are middle class white Christian parents going to have??? 12 years of home schooling followed by "Home College-ing" over the internet????

This idiotic suggestion of the NYT Editorial Board is motivated by nothing but contempt for middle America. They did not take time to give it any deeper thought. "Abolish the Box" is just another anti-goyim crazy train they ready to climb aboard.

Still Steve has been wondering what sort of wrecking the last two years of the Obama administration might be up to??? I would say attempting to "Abolish the Box" by declaring it a form racial discrimination by executive fiat is a likely one. Google "Abolish the Box" and you will find that there a huge astroturf movement behind it.

How many 17-18 y/o qualified applicants to NYU (or similar) are rejected, but for no other reason, because they checked “the box”? A solution in search of a problem.

The next step in the demand for non-discrimination will be for admission acceptances made on the basis of a random lottery of the applicant names. No judgments, and all that.

  30. If you make it extremely easy for Hussein Obama’s thug life sons to enter a university, expect a drastic increase in student on teacher violence on university campuses across the country just like you see in America’s urban inner city high schools. I can definitely see one of Hussein Obama’s sons from the Marcy Projects in New York City for example, breaking the jaw of a Columbia University professor because he got an F on an assignment.

    Rosas Parks: My Story

On the evening of December Rosa Parks decided that she was going to sit in the white people section of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. During this time blacks had to give up there seats to whites when more whites got on the bus. Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. Her and the bus driver began to talk and the conversation went like this. "Let me have those front seats" said the driver. She didn't get up and told the driver that she was tired of giving her seat to white people. "I'm going to have you arrested," said the driver. "You may do that," Rosa Parks responded. Two white policemen came in and Rosa Parks asked them "why do you all push us around?" The police officer replied and said "I don't know but the law is the law and you're under arrest.

They can work right along side the gay scoutmasters those bigots at the Boy Scouts of America won't accept.

    That is a good idea.

If Johnny Castle could get a bunch of uppity Borscht Belters to loosen up and dance, think about what a gang of ultra-rhythmic brothas could do for the Erdely spawn and their campmates.
