Novelist Lionel Shriver (not to be confused with anthropologist Lionel Tiger, the writing partner of Robin Fox) writes in The Spectator:

Demography has become the biggest story on the planet

The growth, decline and movement of populations are what really shape the modern world, argues Paul Morland in his impressive book, The Human Tide
Lionel Shriver

2 February 2019

The Human Tide: How Population Shaped the Modern World
Paul Morland
John Murray, pp.252, £25

One of my vanities is that all my novels are different. Yet one astute journalist identified a universal thread: ‘Too many people,’ she said. …

Since the 1960s, writing about demography has steadily shifted from regarding high fertility rates as tragically entrenching poverty to accepting that numbers confer power. Not mincing words, Morland declares boldly at the outset that ‘ethnicity matters politically’. He spells out that ‘nations and ethnic groups are real’ and ‘they matter in history’.

… If Great Britain, as the historian Timothy Snyder claims, ‘made the world’, it did so, Morland explains, ‘by exporting people’. Ergo, people to spare made the British Empire possible.

The Human Tide shies from this risky inference, but it’s worth asking: if Europe’s sending its extra population abroad projected power, exerted influence and claimed territory, isn’t mass migration from developing nations to the West not currently doing the same thing? After all, democratic countries confer real political power on their inhabitants (although Brexit seems to be testing that proposition). One plausible explanation for the rise of identity politics and the ever-increasing role that race plays in issues of the day is simply mass immigration. Numbers translate directly into voice and clout. …

I have only one serious criticism of this excellent book, and that’s a matter of proportion. Thus far, Africa has failed to get with the programme. Although its fertility rates have come down, they haven’t plummeted nearly as quickly as they were supposed to. Consequently, UN estimates for the global population at which we’re meant to level off, once heading steadily downwards, now go up every year. By 2050, Africans may total 2.5 billion, and 4.5 billion by 2100. Given demographic momentum, to a degree these numbers are baked in. But perhaps because stubbornly large African families jar with the transition model, Morland devotes a scant eight pages to this crucial continent, and dubiously Pollyanna pages at that.

The author isn’t always so demure. He forcefully discounts a popular mantra of British multiculturalists: ‘It may often be said that England has always been a land of immigration, but this is simply untrue.’ Until very recently, England and Wales have absorbed a tiny, demographically incidental handful of Huguenots and Jews. The rise of the population that does not consider itself white British from 2 per cent in the 1960s to nearly 20 per cent in 2011 is ‘historically unprecedented’.

The more Peopke of Color the better. Less insouciant power for white men means less terrorism less hate less racism more better benefits more tolerance

It says a lot that white peoples are so damn old and white girls are increasingly bearing children of color

  2. I read only recently that Lionel Shriver is slated to receive the coveted ‘No Shit, Sherlock’ Award for his work in Noticing. The Award comes in the form of a large, silver-plated ceremonial cup, containing up to 350,000 Africans, Muslims, and Latinos hiding within.

Dozens of influential Jewish groups are said to be lobbying fiercely to have the Award, along with its requisite Africans and Latinos, given out three times a day, every day, to select writers from each member state of the European Union. Some Jewish groups believe the Award should be presented up to twenty times per day in Hungary and Poland.

  3. The transition of the United States, in our one lifetime, is historically unprecedented. From essentially 90% white in 1970 or so, to around 70% white (and 50% white amongst children), this country-the third largest on the planet-has changed in one lifetime (from when I was a child to today, and I am not an old man).

It may have happened to a small city state of 10,000 people in Ancient Greece:it may have happened to a region or smaller country after a war (i.e. expulsion of Ethnic Germans from Eastern Europe post-WW2): it may have happened to a city (a port city), or region (border region), of a larger country. It may have even happened to a portion of this country at one time (say, change in population of Virgina, or Massachussetts, in a 50 year span in the early 1800’s). But I’m reasonably confident that something like this has never happened to a larger country, in this span of time, in human history. Even the replacement of American Indians took 300 years (1600-1900).

If I told you that, in spite of your preconceptions, Russia is actually half Chinese, or India is actually half African, or China is actually half West Asian, due to immigration and birth rates, you wouldn’t believe me. It seems mathematically impossible. It has actually happened to this country in less than 50 years.

  6. if Europe’s sending its extra population abroad projected power, exerted influence and claimed territory, isn’t mass migration from developing nations to the West not currently doing the same thing?

This is what passes for ‘joined up thinking’, is it?

It’s almost impossible to believe that anybody would offer the quote proposition in good faith, unless they were an idiot.

Consider the key difference that formed part of “Europe’s sending its extra population abroad“: gunships. Fucking loads of gunships. Gunships out the fucking wazoo.

And muskets, cannon. bayonets… you get the drift.

Perhaps if you’re an idiot, it’s difficult to properly think through just how big an advantage Europeans had when they made landfall in the places they invaded: a very large part of the world had little more than stone weapons.

Where the local culture did have metallurgy, it had not been used to develop ballistic weapons – even in cultures that were considerably developed (as ‘cultured’ as the West, if not more so – e.g., China, Japan) until after early encounters with Europeans (wo were generally understood to be arriving with hostile intent).

So when Perry arrived in Edo Bay in 1854, he presented the Japanese with the Choice of the Melians: submit or be destroyed. He also fired 73 cannon to back up his threat.

The Japanese at the time had reasonably well-developed coastal-defence cannon: as part of their efforts to keep Westerners the fuck out of their land they had made huge efforts to copy Western artillery technology, and by 1835 they had the capability to forge reliable artillery pieces. However they did not have the range, and did not exist in sufficient number, to prevent a naval bombardment by Perry’s force.

Similarly, when the Chinese had the temerity to refuse to permit the British to sell opium in China, the Royal Navy showed that a ‘modern’ gunship was more than a 10:1 match for the junks that made up the Chinese defences: the bombardment of Chusan in 1841 showed how much damage the Navy could do with a standoff bombardment – without risking the life of a single sailor or Marine.

As for the rest of the “first contact” – from Africa to Australia – it was European bayonets, cannon and muskets, against spears and stone clubs.

    So… let’s review…

What was the screamingly obvious difference between the European expansion of the 15th-19th centuries, and the current inward migration mostly originating in places that the Europeans have spent the last century destroying?

Yes, that’s right, boys and girls: the immigrants to Europe are not being preceded by 100 carrier battle groups and a fusillade of 50 nuclear ICBMs lobbed onto major population centres.

See, that last bit seems hyperbolic, but it’s a low-ball estimate of a situation that would reflect of the sort of technological asymmetry that was available for the British, Yanks, Portuguese, Dutch, French and Germans to exploit as they went stealing other people’s shit for two centuries.

To properly capture the fear that would have gripped the recipients of European ‘visitation’, the modern refugees would have to be accompanied by something straight out of “Independence Day” or “Battlestar Galactica“.

  7. “The rise of the population that does not consider itself white British from 2 per cent in the 1960s to nearly 20 per cent in 2011 is ‘historically unprecedented’.”

They arrived, they can leave. It’s time for mass repatriations. England must remain English.

Now the question is: will we fight? Will we risk arrest and ostracism and career death and possibly actual death in order to defend our country and spare our descendants a future as a hated minority?

Is it even unprecedented in just US history? It happens that all the groups immigrating to the US in the 19th century congealed into a more or less uniform identity later on in the 20th century but the waves of immigration represented a huge shift in the ethnic identity of the US. It’s much more unprecedented what’s happening in Europe although, despite the fact that conservative cucks love to predict doom and gloom for their uncucked cousins across the ocean, those countries are much less far along in their ethnic replacement and actually have political traditions that involve listening to and addressing their citizens concerns, rather than just calling them communists and nazis and ignoring them.

And is the US even as bad as it looks since hispanic is a cultural category not an ethnoracial one? Conservatives here have no problem claiming high achieving light skinned hispanics as white (while similar looking criminals get left out).

Here is another shocking feature of the current political situation. Europeans can look at the USA and see the European future in thirty years, as the ethnic European population is replaced. No one in a position of authority in most European countries dares to notice.

Europe is on course to replicate the demographic replacement which is already virtually unstoppable in the USA. Europe has a short window of time during which the political elites could work to stop this from happening, but they are doing nothing. Many in the EU Brussels political elite are working hard to encourage demographic replacement! Once demographic replacement from Africa and southern Asia reaches a certain threshold it is perhaps unstoppable.

Meh. When Clive won at Plassey over an army twenty times the size of his, both sides were employing virtually the same weapons.

Cortez’s men relied primarily on steel swords and crossbows; admittedly, quite an advance on what the Aztecs had, but still not Maxim machine guns.

Europeans won; whether they had a crushing technological advantage or not. Moreover, they often won against fantastic odds. You can’t just reduce the outcomes to technology.

The unspoken magical link between those two elitist memes is the fact that whites and whites only amongst the world’s peoples have ceased reproducing.

That, in fact, is the ‘golden thread’ that runs through all elitist/Economist thought – blatant, naked anti-whiteism.
I’m not exaggerating when I explicitly and unabashedly state here that the dearest wish of the elitist/Economist is to want all white people dead.

Nick Sandmann has two teams of lawyers (neither of which is the loud mouth ambulance chaser from CNN), a litigation and a defamation specialist. Each has sent out more than 50 spoilation notices to media companies and individuals. These kinds of letters are not meaningless “cease and desist” notices. They are legally meaningful demands to preserve evidence, such as emails, tweets, chat logs, and SMS logs, in anticipation of future litigation. If such evidence turns up walkabout at trial the judge is entitled to find against you on important findings.

So this looks legit and serious.

I’m wondering: Does Sandmann have a “Peter Thiel” behind him, a rich patron underwriting his legal fees? One of the attorneys was quoted as saying that seven attorneys are working full time reviewing evidence. That would be crazy expensive. Was this scrambled, and it meant seven paralegals, full time for a week?

In the case of Thiel’s takedown of Gawker Media Thiel hired an Australian fellow who in turn hired a law firm that hired a team to read through every thing ever published on Gawker within the statute of limitations period and evaluate it for libelous content. There were multiple lawsuits in progress at the timer of Gawker’s bankruptcy, and it’s still not known how many Thiel was behind.

What always struck me was that he was astounded at the events. He was always like ‘Everyone was always so nice to each other!’.

As an academic, he lived in a bubble (obviously), but he never got that the muslims there were the remnants of rapist and pillagers, the Croat catholics and his Serb ethnics exchanged running ruffshod over each other for centuries. So it all blew up.

But I demurred, explicitly refusing to argue, because intuitively I knew I was right. As I predicted, my coolness and wisdom was used against me. You see, I knew what I was talking about, and I didn’t even think you who smugly attacked me were worth the effort to prove it.

That is still true, but since now it is so easy even right here on this webpage, here you go:

Read, if you will, “A Passionate Attachment,” by Philip Geraldi featured at this moment here on UR.

It describes what I remain too lazy and self-assured to bother with for you, to wit:

…measures to criminalize criticism of Israel, referred to as the Combating BDS Act of 2019. It has been correctly observed that that portion of the bill is clearly unconstitutional as it limits free speech, which is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and is considered to be the bedrock of American civil liberties, but there is no guarantee that the Supreme Court will agree if and when the law is contested. Once free expression is abridged for Israel there will be no end to other grievance groups exploiting the precedent to silence criticism and effectively negate the First Amendment.

Go and study up, you intellectuals, Jewish and otherwise, on Senate Bill S.1. I think there have been and are equivalents in individual states too. You know, now it is illegal to do business with some state governments if you won’t sign an oath to support Israel. Oh, I’m sorry, “not to support boycotts against Israel,” our greatest friend and ally in the whole, wide world for ever and ever.

They who lied about this subject run rampant, pretending to know all about anything we comment on. This is bulls**t, and we will end our support here unless it is more fully challenged here, where it matters to us.

There is now a Jewish attack on The First Amendment to The Constitution of The United States of America. AS I SAID THERE WAS. It needs to be called what it is, here of all places, NOW.

Yeah, this makes me look silly. I don’t care. GFY. This, like all the other crap we read about here, is really happening.

We have a saying, “Good fences make good neighbors.”

That means you have your side and I have mine. We are only welcome on each other’s property by invitation. Those invitations will come, and we will all enjoy visiting each other. That is the nature of things. Why have people forgotten this?

I myself own three acres of property, free and clear, and I know personally what this means. I have good neighbors who respect my property as I respect theirs. I think one reason so many “intellectual” people don’t understand this is because they and their kind live mostly in cities with no real property.

Borders, walls and fences do not mean anything bad. They are normal things that good neighbors erect. Only bad neighbors do not want these things.

Would anyone remove the doors from his house? Of course not. Would anyone allow even his best friends to just walk into his house uninvited? No.

The only reason we are being bombarded by media and political messages against walls and borders is because somebody wants us to allow anybody and everybody to come in. They want us to allow bad neighbors onto our property and into our house.

(Thank you for your reply. Lately I am losing respect for this place and feeling like I am wasting my time.)

It seems that the European countries except for Sweden, the Netherlands and the French have turned the corner. Britain is leaving the EU which should grant it more control over who comes and leaves.

Italy has all but stopped new arrivals from the sea. Germany is shifting to an anti-migrant stance but has a large non-German population. In general, European elites now reasonably fear a backlash if they institute open migration plans.

Meanwhile in the USA, the Democrats have increasingly become pro-migration and open borders. Nearly 90% of Dems in recent polling have a favorable few of immigration. In the 90s both parties were tied in the 3os. I suppose a silver lining is that the GOP today remains in the 30s.

Why is the European, the white, tide receding?
Because the European sea, the source of that tide, collapsed in upon itself in 1918, and again, as a kind of aftershock, in 1945, and then again, perhaps finally, in 1968.

But the 1968 generation, in power everywhere in the West, even in Rome, is about to pass away. In that fact, perhaps, lies the possibility of rebirth.
    And with rebirth, reconquest.

“Israel’s technology talent has never been in higher demand. More than 300 global technology companies operate in this tiny Mediterranean country—most of them within an hour’s drive of Tel Aviv. A trickle first led by IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Motorola, and Cisco has become a flood of marquee brands: at least 117 companies from 21 countries have opened Israeli R&D centers since 2014, hoping to capture some of the magic in the country’s bubbling ecosystem of more than 6,000 startups.

But as the global giants arrive, they have been driving up salaries, rents, and reputations. Now some fear that the multinationals that once nurtured this fledgling technology powerhouse are unwittingly damaging the potent but fragile mix of entrepreneurship, military training, and chutzpah that drew them to it in the first place. That, they worry, could prevent it from developing into a mature digital economy.”

Among the problems are “Overpaid workers“. Somehow the obvious answer – more immigration! – doesn’t seem to be considered. Most odd.

There seems to be a parallel here with the Christine Blaisey Ford hoax where the putative “victim” also did not want to report, testify or have too much investigating (because the “victims” knew there was really nothing to investigate), but was semi-involuntarily pushed into the PR machine by someone else who did want the publicity.

In Ford’s case, the pusher was Sen. Feinstein who sought a political cudgel to to prevent a SCOTUS appointment. In this case, it may have been a business manager seeking cynically to raise Smollett’s profile, or it may have been a well-meaning but naive friend who thought that Smollett’s absurd explanation for his bizarre appearance could be taken at face value.

Also interesting that the responding officers seem to have been three Hispanics and a Muslim, and their write-up of the event is pretty blasé if not quite openly skeptical.

Well, it is indeed a very tenuous link to get from “millions of immigrants flooding your cities” to “not as many places for people to live”. Who thinks like that? To be fair, rather than getting in hot water, Miss Shriver should have gotten in lukewarm water.

Oh, LOL at the snark, #341.

  49. @Graham

The population explosion probably started in the American colonies. Ben Franklin’s 1754 estimate that the population of the American colonies was doubling from natural increase (rather than immigration) every 20 to 25 years was galvanizing to European intellectuals, leading to famous theories about population from Malthus and Darwin.

Up until this point, thinkers didn’t normally assume that population would naturally grow if unchecked. They tended to worry that life would tend to become more feeble over time. They tended to think of reproduction kind of like making a Xerox copy of a Xerox copy — who knows how long you can keep this up before it wears out?

When Franklin reported, as the best-informed man in America, that the population was exploding, that set off new rounds of thinking based on new models of human and animal life.

  50. One plausible explanation for the rise of identity politics and the ever-increasing role that race plays in issues of the day is simply mass immigration. Numbers translate directly into voice and clout.

    Yeah, no shit, Sherlock Shriver.

This is exactly what every previous target of mass media attack should have done. But whatever, this is an ideal client: a harmless kid being harmless who was villainously attacked by the mass media genocideers, and a kid who has shown his young mettle twice: in not backing down from the Indian bully in the first place, and then in refusing the media bullies’ gold-plated invitation to apologize and make the attacks go away (which they wouldn’t of course, but that’s the offer).

England’s population really only ‘exploded’ during the 19th century. It was in virtual stasis from time immemorial to around 1800, and after 1900, growth was modest.
Even in the highest growing years, the growth rate was just a shade over 1% per annum – contrast to the late 20th century of the 3.5% ‘normal’ of much of Asia and Africa. It bears no comparison.

The Brits had Indians (the 1st Indian Corps was fighting on the Western Front from 1914, after two winters they were moved to Mesopotamia), the French used various African units. Gurkhas, Sikhs, and Punjabis fought at Gallipoli for Britain, while West African troops (‘Senegalese’ was the generic name) fought there and on the Western Front for France, and occupied the Rhineland after WWI.

No doubt that what you wrote would be the Left’s intellectual response to Paul Morlan’s mildly stated but profoundly important question. And since most Leftist argument is in bad faith—merely serving to distract from their genocidal objectives—I have largely given up arguing these things, so as not to add to their smokescreen.

Other comments of yours have been thoughtful and interesting though, even if I don’t necessarily agree, so I’m responding to this one because it surfaces some distinctions that are usually glossed over.

“just how big an advantage Europeans had when they made landfall in the places they invaded”

Au contraire, at the dawn of the Age of Discovery, when Europeans were making said landfall, their military advantage was often negligible and even negative. As other commenters have suggested, the crude firearms of the fifteenth and sixteenth century were barely better than arrows and spears, and this ignores that the European explorers were almost always massively outnumbered, and were far from home after making perilous and draining voyages.

But this misses the larger point. These explorers were generally not “arriving with hostile intent”. Motives varied, of course, but the foremost one was trade. Most of what is today dismissed as “imperialism” and “colonialism” was merely trading entrepôts, entrepôts which were enthusiastically patronized by the locals. Only in places that were demographically sparse (North America, the Antipodes, Southern Africa, arguably the Eurasian steppe) did Europeans establish actual demographic colonies in any significant numbers, in other words, where the displacement of indigenes was minimal.

Were these entrepôts sometimes established in coercive ways, such as Admiral Perry’s in Japan? Yes, of course, but—shock! surprise!—having “opened” Japan, Westerners really did just want to trade. Western demographic colonization of Japan until 1945? Approximately nil. Since 1945 and a bloody war with “imperialist” Western powers using nukes? Still about nil.

Okay, but that’s just Japan. What about larger, more populous places like India?

Western demographic settlement in India rounds to about nil.

    China? Same.

    Congo? Same.

    Etc.

I think almost anyone born in the West would gladly (even if they won’t admit it) trade the current demographic inundations that literally oppress them in exchange for a few coercively established trading entrepôts in lower Manhattan where foreigners hawk their peculiar wares at unfair prices (which we’ve already got anyway).

In other words, Westerners—and most anyone else for that matter—much prefer to be on the receiving end of Western-style “imperialism” and “colonialism” of lodging a few foreign merchants on your fringes, versus the very real, very harmful, and very irreversible imperialism and colonialism that we currently suffer from, which no one even accurately names, much less acts to avert.

Of course, confounding the ultimately constructive Western trade “colonialism” with the actual colonialism of destructive demographic replacement is the mental bow wave of this new and damaging colonialism. I’m surprised and dismayed that you fell into this mental trap.

  73. I have not read the comments. Someone may have already made this point.

The most important difference between the Brits sending their excess abroad and what is happening now is that the British (and North European) excess was derived from a culture that developed such features as the rule of law, sanitation, agricultural technology, civic organization, etc., that facilitated their population growth. This culture eventually gave birth to antibiotics that allowed other populations to grow beyond their Malthusian limits without first going through the other cultural evolution.

The culture evolved through an agony of blood and death that we only partly understand. Civilization, from its start thousands of years ago, has never been an unalloyed good. It has seemingly aided in the self-domestication of the human species by selection of those most fit for our “unnatural” life in crowded circumstances. Natural selection is not a gentle, painless process.

While Northern European culture is not the be-all and end-all of human achievement that some would have, it has accomplished something that others want to get by moving to those areas.

One of the first things a chemistry student is taught before being turned loose in a lab is that if one mixes mix an acid and a base together too rapidly one can get a violent explosion. Some can only learn by experience. We are in the process of learning a similar lesson.

The territory that became the USA was won and lost by Britain before the population explosion in Britain of the 19th century.

I know that’s what you meant, but making that particular aspect clearer also explains how it was that Britain both won and lost the American colonies: there was a British population explosion in the 17th and 18th centuries, but it was in America.

Everyone could see that a new political settlement between the explosively growing colonies and the static motherland was going to be necessary. Had King and Parliament made even a fraction of the accommodations then with their fellow British-Americans that they now so promiscuously lavish on their third world invaders, Great Britain today might stretch from the English Channel, across the Atlantic, across all of America north of the Rio Grande, to Hawaii. In other words, Britain might still truly be Great.

“History doesn’t repeat, but it rhymes.” You make it sound as if the Guns, Germs, and Steel of Europe’s post-1450 Age of Exploration is a a one-off. And of course it is. But the broader pattern is not. When peoples encounter others with more-advanced technology and greater asabiya, it usually ends badly for them. When the newcomers are also ruthless — they often are — it ends very badly.

I’m halfway through David Reich’s book, which inadvertently suggests that this was a tragic reality of pre-history as well.

Exactly. And not only has the “changing of the guard” racially or ethnically occurred in the U.S., it has happened throughout human history. The WASPs created our country. They were eventually overrun by the inferior peoples from the Mediterranean and Alpine races. Exactly why WASPs were insistent that people from Southern and Eastern Europe were utterly incapable of comprehending the subtleties of their customs and laws. Yet, by magic dirt, the Polish, the Italians, and the Greeks became part of the American fabric, much to the chagrin of nativists. In the Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith explained that humans evolved from hunter-gatherers to shepherds to agriculturalists. He pointed out how hunter-gatherers had the lowest population levels because they could only support a population that could live off the land. Shepherds had larger populations because they raised their own herds. And agriculturalists had the largest populations because they could grow and store more food.

With that in mind he explained the success of European colonization by showing that they succeeded in establishing permanent settlements more often in places that were inhabited by hunter-gatherers, such as North America. He also listed the African Cape as having been sparsely settled by hunter-gatherers as opposed to other coastal areas of Africa. And he thought this is why the Dutch had success in their settlement there .

He listed as exceptions Peru and Mexico which had larger populations before the arrival of Europeans.

The irony of today is that the migrants are coming to fully-packed countries that have the best military forces in the world. If the Europeans were heading into such nations centuries ago, they would have been repelled. Of course having your leadership working against you, and having the population being so civilized that they cannot summon up the courage to resist such treacherous leaders, is apparently enough to give the advantage to the migrants.

Large tracts of Italy, France, Spain even were/are ’empty’ woods, ditto the Highlands of Scotland, and if you take away the trees most of Wales, and a large portion of the south west and north of England.

The only proviso is, of course, for one rather profound reason of geography or the other these ’empty’ regions cannot support large scale human settlement. The next time some lefty/Economist wanker tries to lecture you about ‘most of England being empty’ you should remember this.

good reply to Krat. For a long time it has bothered me that so many people who are fans of destroying Western Civilization, and are gleeful about demographic change in Europe & USA, Aus, have no clear justification (or should I really say, moral reason) for why the demographics must change for the countries that have been subjugated for centuries by other war-like European (incl. Russia) countries that Krat mentions. For instance, why does Finland, Norway (yeah, ok, they’re oil big wigs/exploiters of fossil fuels) , Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, etc. deserve to be replaced by MENA people? There is no way to argue that these countries deserve to be loaded-up with mostly, Muslims & Africans since AI & robotics have been completely integrated (particularly Finland & now, Estonia) into the economy leading to a dearth of simple jobs. In addition, all the large factories have left Finland for China in the last 10 years. Lastly, Finland also tried Guaranteed Income which tanked. Here are some amusing truths to make everyone feel better today (well, most of us).

I’m an Englishman. I’m from Bermondsey, South-East London. My father was called George. He was also from Bermondsey. His father, another Bermondsey man, was called George too. And his father, my great-grandfather, is from the same place. He was called Edward.

These three generations of my family, were in the fish trade. I’m the first member of my family not to work at the market in Billingsgate. My great-grandfather had eleven brothers and sisters. They all married except one. They had 43 children. Of these 37 married and between them they had further 159 children. One of those was my father. I don’t know exactly how many of his generation married or exactly how many children they produced. I’ve so far tracked over two-hundred of them.

Many still live in Bermondsey. Some are still in the fish trade.

There are seven called George, and five called Victoria. I stand here, in front of you, as a representative of all of them. And I ask in their name the great question put by our patron, Mr Powell. What do they know of England, who only England know? Or, what can my family, who come from England, who lived in England, who know only England, say of this, our country?

Mr Powell once spoke of the destruction of ancient Athens and the miraculous survival in the blackened ruins of that city of the sacred olive tree; the symbol of Greece, their country. And he also spoke of us, the English, at the heart of a vanished empire, seeming to find within ourselves that one of our own oak trees, the sap rising from our ancient roots, and he said perhaps, after all, we who have inhabited this island fortress for an unbroken thousand years, brought up, as he said, within the sound of English bird song under the English oak, in the English meadow, beneath the red cross of St. George, it is us who know most of England.

And I appreciated him for saying that, because it was as if he spoke for my family, who understand well their own country. Who understand even better their own capital, London town, as we used to call her. As we strolled in her parks, as we marveled at her palaces, as we did buisness in the city, went west for a dance, took a boat on the river. The pale ale and eel pie of old London. The London of my family for as many generations as I know. The London that will in less than fifteen years will be less than fifty percent white. London, where in fifteen years a white person will be in the minority.

Am I racist? No. Do I have anything against people of other races? No. Would I prevent them from coming into my home? No. So what then is my gripe?

My gripe, and I speak on behalf of seven men called George and five women called Victoiria, my gripe is quite simple.

My gripe is that we were never asked. My gripe is that we were told, not asked, and everyday we are told again and again how we are to be and how our country is to be. We are told by them, and we know who they are, they’re English too. They are the class that has always set themselves apart, they are the class that has always taken what they wanted for themselves, and now they are the class that is giving England away.

They have never asked us, and they never will.

Do we allow them to sell our heritage? Or is it time for us to speak?

To speak, to refuse them the right to give away our holy, or bountiful, our only England that has, that has nurtured us, naked, grown us as the oak. Is it time for us that England know to come yet again and defend our country? With our fire, our fists?

Is it time for us sons to rise again?
    I say yes.
    I say yes.

    I say… Yes.

The parents had enough money to hire and pay a good PR firm 2 days after the incident. As wealthy business owners, they have an attorney they’ve worked with previously who surely advised them. Nick’s one TV interview was both a masterpiece of PR and the absolute truth, Nick just stood there and said nothing while the deranged Indian beat a drum and waved a stick inches from his face.

They probably were inundated with attorneys offers . Then there are possible criminal as well civil charges of child endangerment.

The lead attorney is Lin Wood. Wood has a great record suing media for defamation. For instance, Wood got Jon Benet Ramsey’s brother Burke 750 million for the TV interview which was carfully edited to give the impression Burke killed his sister.

It’s being done on contingency. The defamation was so blatant and egregious against a 16 year old boy who did absolutely nothing but stand waiting for a bus that it’s pretty much a very quick settle ment case especially because of the death threats against both Nick and his family.

Lin Wood’s firm has enough money to support a contingency case until they get what will be a very quick settlement.

The best is yet to come when the defendants respondents get the filings and then have to come up with the thousands in cash to pay their defense attorneys. I can’t imagine Kathy Griffin can come up with $50,000 down and $15,000 a month till the case is settled.

I can’t wait till the cases are filed and I can read them on the internet. The cases will probably be filed and litigated in Kenton county where the plaintiff lives, not in White hating Los Angeles and NYC, where most of the defendants respondents live.

What’s interesting is how many Jewish adults tweeted for the death and injury of a 16 year old Roman Catholic minor who did nothing but be accosted by a homeless deranged Indian activist.
Terms of the settlement will probably be confidential, but it will be a great symbolic victory in the fight of Christian White Americans against the Jewish media establishment that wants us all dead and fine.

It was interesting that the internet media attack on Nick wasn’t American Indian or black, mostly White Jews.

That’s how they think and feel about us and what they’ll do to any of us if they can.

It won’t help in the long term though.

Wow and much of the increase came during the Blair years. What madness.

Labour wanted mass immigration to make UK more multicultural, says former adviser
Labour threw open Britain’s borders to mass immigration to help socially engineer a “truly multicultural” country, a former Government adviser has revealed.

The huge increases in migrants over the last decade were partly due to a politically motivated attempt by ministers to radically change the country and “rub the Right’s nose in diversity”, according to Andrew Neather, a former adviser to Tony Blair, Jack Straw and David Blunkett.

He said Labour’s relaxation of controls was a deliberate plan to “open up the UK to mass migration” but that ministers were nervous and reluctant to discuss such a move publicly for fear it would alienate its “core working class vote”.

As a result, the public argument for immigration concentrated instead on the economic benefits and need for more migrants.

Critics said the revelations showed a “conspiracy” within Government to impose mass immigration for “cynical” political reasons.

The current replacement of whites by other races in America is far from being unprecedented. America as we know it today was founded by the elimination of the Amerindians and replacement by the European immigrants. That was a much bigger change and a more calamitous one than the than the one we seem to be now a part of.

Of course most of the elimination of the Indians was inadvertent. Smallpox and a few other diseases simply wiped the previous population out. Most of the white settlers didn’t see it or understand it. The basic story was simple. Europeans began to explore. Those who went to Africa died of diseases they contracted from the native. Those who went toe the Americas gave the natives their diseases.

This is a lesson for the present. There could very well be corrective to any over population threat. Nature could throw up some new plague that would thin out the excess hordes. Or alternately some nation could release some designer “bug’. I don’t know very much about germ warfare. But one reads about potential Ebola-Smallpox hybrids. Sounds deadly.

Plomin writes that all of genetics has undergone a revolution in the last four years. If it isn’t a quite recent genetics paper, its likely wrong. Things are changing very fast. As far as I know know one can create a disease organism that only attacks one human race. But who knows when such a discovery will be made – if it can made?

If a one race only designer bug could be created, it almost certainly would be used. We may be already in an arms race to determine the demography of the future. Racial antipathy is such that I fear that the existence of such a weapon must soon result in only one race left on earth. A race specific bug makes the H Bomb look like a toy.

We can assume that our people are working on such a device now.

  129. “Is it even unprecedented in just US history? It happens that all the groups immigrating to the US in the 19th century congealed into a more or less uniform identity later on in the 20th century but the waves of immigration represented a huge shift in the ethnic identity of the US.”

Yes, it is. 1) you just said it was a 100 year span (19th c later on in the 20th c). I said 50 years was unprecedented. 2) The population of the US was 9 million in 1820. I said the sheer size of the change (200 million +) was unprecedented.

I didn’t say population replacement had never happened. I said population replacement, of this size, of this speed, has never happened. It hasn’t happened to China over thousands of years. I hasn’t happened to Russia. It hasn’t happened to India, in spite of foreign occupation. It didn’t happen to Western colonies. When European countries were kicked out, the indigent population remained and was (and is) predominant. It happened in the USA, as mentioned, over 300 years. I suppose it happened in sparcely populated Australia and New Zealand-again small numbers.

    Try again.

    joe

  130. @Prodigal son

Where/how are you getting these numbers?

Per the US Census Bureau, the 2015 White Non-Hispanic population was 204 million, at which level it has nearly stopped growing, though not yet declining, so the expectation for 2020 is about 205 million, where it looks like it may become the Great White Plateau.

Per the Census, the 1970 NonHispWhite pop was 170m, so the 1970-2015 NonHispWhite growth was about 20%.

(The all-whites census for 1920 was indeed 95 million, but only 94 million if you exclude Hispanic whites, as you appear to be doing with the 21st century numbers.)

Your Black numbers are pretty close to the Census Bureau, but that obscures the little-known reality of US black population growth. From the end of importation of slaves in 1808 until Emancipation in 1863, the Black population grew about 2.4% per year, which is to say doubling about every 30 years. So whatever else the black condition was during slavery, demographically, they were doing pretty well. From Reconstruction until WWII, when now free blacks had to rely on their own means of support, black population growth crashed to slightly above 1% per year, a tremendous fall from the slavery days. Well, freedom ain’t free, as they say. You gotta support yourself too.

Fortunately for Black Supremacists, the Democrats had the idea to put blacks back on the Democratic plantation as welfare-subsidized vote-croppers, and since then the Black population growth rate has shot up to about 1.6% per year (doubling about every 45 years). In the same time, the WhiteNonHisp annual growth rate crashed to about 0.8%. So while plantation/welfare life has been demographically pretty good for blacks, it has been disastrous for whites. As of the last census in 2010, the annual WhiteNonHisp pop growth rate was a meager 0.1%.

I was going to make a similar reply to Steve, but on reflection decided that he’s pretty much right.

“Poland, Russia, Scandinavia etc at that time were – and most cases still are – ’empty woods’.”

True, but Steve said “empty woods to move into.” [Emphasis added.] The conifer forests of northern Scandinavia and the taiga of Russia cannot self-sustainably support anyone besides reindeer herders. So yeah, there are empty-ish woods there, but they’re not woods a settled civilization can “move into” absent massively unrequited energy inputs.

“Large tracts of Italy, France, Spain even were/are ’empty’ woods, ditto the Highlands of Scotland, and if you take away the trees most of Wales, and a large portion of the south west and north of England.”

Yes, there are/were woods in southern and western Europe, but again, they’re not woods you can move into, in this case because they are already spoken for. In temperate/Mediterranean Europe the “woods” are/were more like large cultivated woodlots providing timber for their owners. They are not wild lawless places inhabited by hunters and nomads who will fade away before the oncoming settled civilization. They are already part of that settled civilization, just the part that the settled civilization chooses to keep wooded for its own purposes.

Judaism and liberal, free, egalitarian (in the best senses of those words) democracy are by their very natures incompatible. One cannot be both a practicing Jew and a loyal American citizen. The two are as far apart in values as the Greek world was from the primitive tribal rituals of the Old Testament. One created exquisite sculpture, literature, philosophy and math; the other worshiped (and worships) idols erected in honor of their tribal wars, won and lost.

One is busy examining the nature of the world they live in, the other is so obsessed with “never forgetting, never forgiving” that they can’t put their past behind them, can’t engage with the world as it is in front of them.

A man (or woman) can become a citizen of the West but to do so he (or she) must forsake their Judaism.

The wall is only relevant because Trump staked his presidency on it. It has no significant bearing on the actual future of the country. Conservatives are just too cucked to realize that the solution to illegal immigration (like all major the problems they’re concerned about) lies in regulating businesses, in this case by mandating E-Verify and severely punishing rule breakers.

Because, American oligarchs have decided to impose inverse colonization in their own country—hauling in over 1.5 million legal immigrants from the Third World every year, in addition to overlooking the presence of millions of illegal aliens, with the corporate-crony-controlled government boosting up the low wages of many of these immigrants (and of many womb-productive citizens) via monthly welfare and refundable child tax credits that top out at $6,431.

Big crony government pays them in increasing amounts per US-born instant-citizen kid produced when they stay under the earned-income limits for welfare, which enables them to work cheaply for oligarchs, undercutting the wages of non-welfare-eligible citizens for 40 years.

Using overtly abusive tactics to make generations of Americans accept this wage-undercutting replacement strategy, American oligarchs put down citizens, denigrating them by telling the most educated group of citizens in US history that they are just not skilled enough to compete with the Third Worlders that the oligarchs pay less than citizens, indicating that they are not, in fact, more skilled than the underemployed citizens in most cases.

They just work cheaper, aided in doing so by their welfare and / or child tax credits, while rent prices skyrocket, like the suicide rate among citizens, due to so many extra humans competing for housing units.

Oligarchs keep trucking in the immigrants to take the boasted-about newly created jobs, even though the average “employed” person in the USA works part time at 34 hours per week, with half of all employed persons working even fewer hours.

Inverse colonization, and all of the social unrest that it brings, is going to be an especially big disaster, as automation continues to reduce the number of full-time jobs, and a revenue-strapped governent is still expected to pay citizens and noncitizens for womb-productive sex. Wonder if the wombless, non-welfare-eligible citizens will put on their yellow vests at any point in the inverse-colonization process?

But good news: the neoliberal President is decrying socialism, while proposing more socialistic rewards for womb producers who already enjoy lax-to-the-max absenteeism privileges in their family-friendly jobs due to computers that do more and more of their work. Now, they need paid family leave. This might complicate things for the single moms, strategically staying under the earned-income limits for welfare that covers everything from housing to food by working very few hours. Every month is paid-family-leave month for many of America’s above-firing working parents.

Yes. The key point is that Western imperialists were coming from established nation-states to lands of much different polities were rule-of-law, predictable government and even defended borders were absent. They inveigled into being, or imposed, what they wanted to deal with. If we didn’t do it someone else would.

An exception to this was Thailand which watched and admired 19th Century British, Dutch and French administrative and business practices and took swift measures to replicate them as best it could.

Another point is that although there was certainly a difference between almost empty lands like North America and populated lands like India population levels were still very, very low compared to current day numbers. Slavery and human war booty were important in Asia precisely because land was plentiful but work-hands precious. Highly organized, decisive and bold trading-warriors could sweep across vast areas with relative ease.

But except in the settler lands the colonial regimes had limited aims: in India, certainly after the mutiny, the British authorities imposed strict controls against any growth of an expatriate white population which might agitate against London and rile the local populations.

I was recent forced to take a look at the former Indian diplomat Shashi Tharoor’s claims that the British Raj was something like Nazi Germany only more efficient at bleeding India dry, after a relative of mine started quoting him. Tharoor’s arguments are absurd and very, very easily knocked down. To take one example: the Indian population grow very strongly under the supposedly genocidal British and rather than deliberately destroy local industry it continued to grow steadily under the Raj.

Tharoor’s bitterness and anger is likely self-serving (he was actually born in London) but is a warning of what is in store for those naive enough to imagine that only Muslims slide easily into anti-white hate.

I think it should be admitted that one cannot expect the populations of former colonies to admire and rejoice in these histories. The days when certain sophisticated Oxbridge-educated Indians were prepared to take a cool look at the Raj are likely behind us. And we should certainly expect a certain nation-uniting animus.

But a bowed head and an apologetic manner will merely draw the worst instincts from these populations and encourage hopes of revenge.

Lin Wood’s firm has released a masterful mini-documentary video called “Nick Sandmann: The Truth in 15 Minutes.”

It edits the video of the incident in a manner favorable to Sandmann, cleverly including the “It isn’t rape if you enjoy it” crack by another boy and some Covington stuff from years ago to make it seem impartial. And then it shows media video and social media posts by, ahem, the future defendants, I assume, including many non-corporate individuals not on the initial list of 54. There is a lot of interesting footage I hadn’t seen, including a Trevor Noah and a Whoopi Goldberg mea culpa.

The narration is not a normal professional narrator, but rather a slightly affectless female voice that gives the video a little tinge of menace. I would be shitting my pants if I were one of the recipients of the evidence preservation letters.

Although her family and Mark’s are both called Shriver, any genealogical connection will be extremely distant (i. e. a common Shriver ancestor in around 1800-1830 at the latest).
Her family were small beer until her great-grandfather moved into the professional classes as an engineer; her grandfather was a lawyer who worked for the government, and her father is a typical leftish Protestant minister, who writes articles on the social policy implications of the Pater Noster. Sheesh.
Mark’s family on the other hand are old-line WASCs and part of the Maryland establishment for some 200 years. His father marrying a nouveau Kennedy might even be seen (and no doubt was by many on his side of the family) as a step in the wrong direction.

Interestingly, while both Mark and his younger brother Anthony all went to Georgetown Prep, their older brother Timothy was at St Alban’s, its Episcopalian rival. Curious.

I think the important point is that the British population explosion was the first time it has happened in an already ‘full’ country. Technological change enabled the carrying capacity of the British Isles to shoot up almost indefinitely – and the take-up of that capacity continues, now driven by immigration, after a brief period of stability from about 1960 to about 2000. The increase in America, as Achmed E. Newman hinted, was different in type.

An earlier interesting example is that of classical Greece, which was very densely populated compared to the rest of Europe and western Asia. I don’t know the reason for that, by I believe it was to do with efficient seaborne trade. When you marvel at tiny Greece defeating the huge Persian empire, remember that there might have been more Persians than Greeks.

Scotland is damp, dark, cold and boggy. Not exactly prime farmland. Sheep pasture or other pastoral agriculture really is a fairly productive use of it. There was some subsistence agriculture on it in the 18th century (and there’s even a little today still) but that was because Britain was up against its Malthusian limits and so even marginal land was under the plow. As the agricultural possibilities of the American colonies and elsewhere opened up though, the meager returns of subsistence agriculture in the Scottish highlands made less and less economic sense.

So “sparsely populated” marginal land is not the same as fertile bottom land that just happens to have trees on it, like for example the Ohio Valley.

Actually, much of Scotland is good farmland and agriculturally productive. In particular, potatoes thrive in Scotland.
Strangely enough, the Pentland Hills around Edinburgh, (useless factoid of the day,’Pentland’ is derived from ‘Pict-Land’ the aboriginal inhabitants of Scotland), are famous for growing soft fruit and berries.

In particular, the Scottish Highlands – which form a huge portion of the Scottish landmass – are entirely useless for any agricultural purpose – even grazing at the lowest stocking density. The terrain is just too challenging.

“Western man towers over the rest of the world in ways so large as to be almost inexpressible. It’s Western exploration, science, and conquest that have revealed the world to itself. Other races feel like subjects of Western power long after colonialism, imperialism, and slavery have disappeared.

The charge of racism puzzles whites who feel not hostility, but only baffled good will, because they don’t grasp what it really means: humiliation.

The white man presents an image of superiority even when he isn’t conscious of it.
And, superiority excites envy. Destroying white civilization is the inmost desire of the league of designated victims we call minorities.”

I did read your post. The point you make about the speed of replacement however is probably wrong. Smallpox wiped out the Indian civilizations in Central and South America and the North American tribes too. It happened very quickly. It did not take 300 years. The Amerindian communities collapsed almost immediately. Not all died of course but the heart was cut out of Indian culture and organization almost at once. When the white man went west he saw few Indians but evidence that there had once been large populations. The whites inherited an empty land.

If you are going to focus on the nineteenth century Indian Wars because there were some Indians left, you could claim that the Indians were never wiped out because some still live today.
