iSteve commenter Cranberries notes:

OT: LA Times puff-piece/sob-story on poor, struggling immigrant Berkeley student fails to mention history of anti-white vandalism.

He attends elite UC Berkeley but lives in a trailer with no heat or sewer hookups. Soon, he’ll be scrambling to find new shelter

By TERESA WATANABE
MAR 11, 2018 | 6:00 AM | HAYWARD

But, unmentioned is Mr Chamu’s skeleton in the closet from the Daily Cal student newspaper:

BY BOBBY LEE | SENIOR STAFFLAST UPDATED JULY 14, 2017

Berkeley Police Department arrested Ismael Chamu on Thursday evening in connection with vandalism that recently appeared on the south side of campus. Chamu is a campus student who alleged BPD officers racially profiled and unlawfully detained him this June.

In the first incident, when Berkeley policemen looking for a burglar stopped him, he tried to ditch a knife he was carrying. He got a popular Facebook post about racial profiling (in which he forgot to mention the knife part) for his inconvenience.

Chamu was arrested Thursday about 9 p.m. at his residence in San Francisco on charges of alleged felony vandalism, misdemeanor hate crimes, hate crime enhancement and conspiracy, according to BPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Frankel. …

Thirty cases of vandalism — including slashed vehicle tires and spray-painted messages — were reported to BPD on the south side of campus June 28, according to a Nixle message issued by BPD on July 3.

Oh wait, I meant “skeleton on the front porch”. It’s only in the top 5 results when googling Chamu, after all. Funny that the reporter on the first piece missed it.

Why is it that social justice’s poster children (e.g. Michael Brown, Jackie (UVA)) are so often fraudulent? Is there really no financially struggling Mexican student at Cal more sympathetic than this dishonest and entitled communist?

Berkeley students hoping to obtain professional sinecure in the highly competitive SJW industry can’t just rely upon their GPAs, they have to be proactive! Otherwise, the Tiger Daughters who were raised to make sure their resumes check all the right boxes will get all the good jobs. Poor Mexican male SJWs need to do something to stand out, such as referring to themselves as “They” or committing felonies.

Remember, it’s not Fake News if the Los Angeles Times leaves out of the article pertinent events that could have been uncovered by 15 seconds of online searching.

UPDATE: iSteve commenter CCZ reports:

The LA Times story may be a “puff-piece/sob-story,” but it appears to be worth $33,000.

UpUPDATE: As of 3/14/2018, Ismael is now up to $83,000 in pledges.

A “You Caring” fund for “Ismael” has raised over $27,000 of the $33,000 dollar goal in the last 12 hours (12:00 AM, Pacific Time, March 12).

“Help Ish’s Family Find a Home” For: Ismael, Berkeley, CA

$27,320 of $33,000 goal, 82% Complete

The Story: (To learn more about Ismael’s story read this LA times article, linked.)

“Ismael Chamu is currently a 4th year studying sociology at UC Berkeley. His family has struggled in recent months to make ends meet. He currently helps support his two sisters, younger brother, mom and dad. He has to leave his current housing on the 13th. Money will be used to buy food, secure housing, and school supplies. Ismael is passionate about helping others, he was a co-founder and leader in social justice oriented clubs on campus like the Pre-Law Coalition for Social Justice and United Children of Immigrants. His family recently relocated to Hayward when his parents were no longer able to support themselves in Central California. Despite all of the barriers and hardship Ismael faces on a daily basis you will always find him with a smile.”

Gentrification has many antecedents, most of which seem off limits on campus. Shamu should spend more time learning some history about just how many neighborhoods slid due to which causes before becoming gentrification opportunities and less time trying to make a big splash.

Dumbass is majoring in sociology, will probably follow it up with a useless law degree. If he took a two year course at a community college in HVAC he would be immediately employed and earning good money in 2-3 years. From there, he can open his own business and have a wide open future. Better yet, just get a government job.

Absent a wall, the Homeland Security Department forecasts an additional 1.7 million illegal crossings at the US-Mexico border over the next decade.

If a wall stopped just 200,000 of those future crossings, Camarota says, it would pay for itself in fiscal savings from welfare, public education, refundable tax credits and other benefits currently given to low-income, illegal immigrants from Mexico and Central America.

“From my studies of communist societies, I formed the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, not to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is, in some small way, to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to.”

From Ms. Watanabe’s article, so much for “immigrant families” fighting to stay together: “When he was 14, the family moved to Hayward on the promise of lucrative construction work. They lived with an aunt for a few months until she kicked them out.”

But the article could also have easily discovered and noted his rather intolerant attitude toward those who have different opinions.

“Since the beginning of this semester, members of the Berkeley College Republicans (BCR) have been continually harassed, had property damaged and destroyed, had drinks poured on them and, during one incident, had a cellphone stolen out of a member‘s hand, all for simply supporting their preferred presidential candidate. … Just last week, a fellow student who has never interacted with BCR denounced our club’s existence and attempted to blame us for the behavior of our aggressors. But though Ismael Chamu, the current on-campus face of anti-BCR rhetoric, claims to speak in defense of students and the campus community, he has publicly stated “F**k your free speech” and that certain speech “will be destroyed.””

RE the previous commenter’s musing that he will end up with a useless law degree. If so I predict that he will wash out of law practice, or else end up in a corner of the law where competence is not a requirement, such as a nonprofit that supplies legal services to penniless illegal aliens. Such legal services tend to be in the form of self righteous press conferences rather than legal work to help the client.

I have been invited as a guest speaker to multiple press conferences.

That was just due to Mr. Chamu's following the advice of the helpful corporate HR lady at the placement office. She had told him to "keep it short" and "don't toot your own horn", and stuff.

The original line was: "I have been invited to harrass and beat up a guest speaker to disrupt multiple press conferences."

"Too wordy, Mr. Chamu, FIFY. No problem, that's why I make the big bucks" - visiting HR lady.

Oh, he didn't follow the 2nd piece of advice.

From Ms. Watanabe's article, so much for “immigrant families” fighting to stay together: “When he was 14, the family moved to Hayward on the promise of lucrative construction work.

(Anti-Republican Rhetoric Antithetical To Campus Culture (Opinion), The Daily Californian, University of California, Berkeley, September 20, 2016)

I’ll tell you CCZ, if it weren’t for the cameras and prevalent anarcho-tyranny, 2 or 3 members of that Republican club should just have cornered this guy behind a building and beat the living crap out of him. Some people, ya just caint reach …

It’s difficult to imagine that the current cultural conflict won’t result in large-scale violence. Beatings behind buildings will certainly be part of it.

"UC Berkeley Students Charged For Spray-Painting Graffiti: Police "Kill Cops," "F--- White People," "F--- the police," "Kill Yuppies," "Eat the Rich," "Class War." They were not charged with hate crimes."

    https://patch.com/california/berkeley/uc-berkeley-students-charged-spray-painting-graffiti-police

"In total, 17 cars had tires slashed, according to the press release by the police department. ... The spray-painted graffiti messages targeted demographics such as “white people,” “cops” and “liberal scum,” according to City Councilmember Kriss Worthington."

    http://www.dailycal.org/2017/07/09/graffiti-targeting-white-people-cops-reported-south-side-berkeley/

    Maybe his defense will be:

“UC Berkeley Students Experience Identity-Based Harassment After Elections” and “Post-Election Hate In Berkeley”
(The Daily Californian, University of California, Berkeley, November 14, 2016 and December 5, 2016)

“Groceries in hand, campus junior Ismael Chamu was walking home from the 99 Cents Only Store when a red Ford pickup truck driven by two white men slowed beside him — “Son-of-a-bitch wetback,” one of the men yelled before driving away.

"I was reminded of my middle school years in South Carolina when I was called a "wetback illegal" many times," Chamu said. "Now I'm in California and it follows me. This political climate is empowering these racist lost souls."

But from the scenes in his You Tube video, he seems to have gotten around!

Ismael Chamu, Published on May 19, 2015

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KZWgNFLz3aY

The incident with the red Ford pickup never happened, guaranteed. Barely anyone even knows the term “wetback” anymore and nobody in Berkeley would use it unless they were a gang type trying to get some revenge going. Sort of like calling a black a N—–, it’s only used by other blacks.
