It’s widely asserted that blacks live in locations inconvenient to jobs, which sounds plausible until you look at a map.

For example, Inglewood, CA is a municipality west of Los Angeles next door to LAX, which is the third busiest airport in America and a huge jobs generator. The climate in Inglewood is superb six miles from the beach, and transportation is tremendously convenient. It would be an ideal location for frequent fliers to live, except that it’s under the flight path to LAX.

Fortunately, jetliners have been getting less noisy since the 1960s, earplug quality is improving, and the government has been paying for sound-proofing homes in Inglewood for decades.

So Inglewood blacks, who pushed white residents out in the 1960s and 1970s, are now worried that whites might come back.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Op-Ed Whites are moving back to Inglewood. There goes our neighborhood.

Erin Aubry Kaplan

… I grew up in and around Inglewood and have lived here for the last 13 years. Walking home with my dogs three weeks ago, I was approached by a young white woman who, like me, is an animal lover. Turns out she and her husband had moved into the neighborhood recently. “We like it so far,” she said brightly. Like it? I felt a rush of resentment at a remark that to her, I’m sure, was perfectly innocent. All I could think was: White folks abandoned Inglewood, and now they’re coming back with no memory or acknowledgment of all that, expecting neighborliness?

… But black people in particular will feel the sting. We will be out not just apartments and homes we can afford to rent or pay the mortgage on. We will lose our space, our place.

It’s an enduring American truth: Whatever black people have can be taken away.
“Space” and “place” encompass something complex — community, which is our capital and always has been. In lieu of economic wealth, we lay down roots, we build social cohesion out of the vacuum created by white flight, avoidance and indifference.

The pattern of shrinking black space is hardly new, by the way: Over the years, immigration and Latino growth remade traditionally black areas like South Central and Compton and Inglewood too.

Inglewood in the 2010 Census was 51% Hispanic, 44% black, and 3% white. The mayor is still black though, but half the City Council is Latino.

But today’s white influx feels particularly ominous, like the worst of our bad history looping back on itself.

In other words, it’s okay to hate on whites in the L.A. Times, but not on Mexicans.

Once again our places are tethered to what white people want, what they decide is acceptable, valuable.

It’s an enduring American truth: Whatever black people have can be taken away. History is rife with ugly examples, from the burning down of the black business district in Tulsa, Okla., in 1921, to the violent ousting of black leadership in Wilmington, N.C., in 1898 — considered the first and only coup on American soil. Indeed, most race riots before the 1960s involved angry white people running black people out of spaces they didn’t want them to occupy.

Since the 1960s, however … But who in Los Angeles can remember the riots of 1965 and 1992 in Los Angeles when Wilmington, N.C. in 1898 is so much more causally relevant?

… He represented a widely held belief in real estate, one that’s still in place: Whites improve and stabilize a neighborhood, blacks do the opposite. …

A confession: My late husband moved with me to Inglewood in 2004. He was white, Jewish to be exact. But he was an outlier, a guy who grew up in the working-class Valley whose racial politics were radical enough to make moving into a black, thoroughly ungentrified neighborhood not a big deal. …

Fifty years ago, Inglewood’s white residents saw black newcomers not as neighbors but invaders, existential threats to their property values and to an ironclad social order. They could not, would not, live where we lived. The fact that whites are coming back to this once very contested space is not, I fear, evidence of the meaningful integration that has long eluded us. It’s a warning that my black community is, once again, irretrievably at risk.

As I’ve been saying for a number of years, the gentrification of South-Central L.A. is one of the biggest but riskiest real estate opportunities of the 21st Century.

A lot of prime locations are totally wasted due to blacks.

South-Central LA is 44 square miles, right between Downtown and the beach. It is *prime*, as every other major part of LA is within 12 miles of the periphery of South-Central, if not for blacks.

Oakland is a superb suburb for San Francisco, right between SF and Berkeley. Alas, blacks have made it uninhabitable.

The Bronx, Newark, and Harlem section of Manhattan are all prime locations that are ruined.

Entire cities like Detroit, DC-Baltimore, the southern half of Chicago, most of urban Cleveland, etc. could all be great if not for blacks.

Oakland is no more a suburb of San Francisco than Fort Lauderdale is a suburb of Miami or Baltimore a suburb of Washington. All three of the largest cities near the San Francisco Bay – San Francisco, San José, and Oakland (of which San Jose is far and away both the largest and most populous, making the other two suburbs of it, if one insists on such a designation) – are interrelated in dynamic and reciprocal ways. People commute amongst them all, and they are (with their actual suburbs, such as Santa Clara, Berkeley, Daly City, etc.) hubs for different activities: Oakland of transport and industry, San Francisco of finance, San José of science and technology....

In the event, outside its somewhat rough core, Oakland is indeed now much safer and desirable than San Fransisco: less junkies, muggers, and perverts wandering the streets naked. A bit more violent crime, but that mostly internecine fighting amongst criminals. Much more affordable and far less congested. The Oriental invaders have long since shifted their focus from San Francisco (already maximally exploited and saturated with overpopulation) to Oakland, where they are rapidly buying up all the housing stock and ruling as absentee slumlords (often from China itself) or renovating and gentrifying the properties to rent at very high prices. Not being as stupid and evil as rich white people, they seldom sell (or flip) the real estate because they know no more of it is being created and the overpopulation of what used to be the U.S.A. – especially Mexinchifornia – will only accelerate apace....

    , @biz
Your demographicd are somewhat out of date there. Oakland has already turned over, as has Harlem.
    , @Reg Cæsar

You could also say that SF's whites (and yellows) have made Oakland uninhabitable for whites by making San Francisco-- OJ's hometown-- uninhabitable for NAMs, economically. They have to live somewhere.
    , @phil
Oakland has been gentrifying, as has East Palo Alto, where many shacks now go for more than $1 million. It's an easy drive to Facebook headquarters. Amazon is setting up an office. Steve has referred to Vallejo, in the northern part of San Francisco Bay, as highly diverse, but it is gentrifying, too. Young professionals can commute by ferry to San Francisco and avoid the rush hour traffic.

The entire San Francisco Bay area is shedding blacks. Hispanics will remain as the core of the new working class.

    , @Neoconned
Well if you look at a map of LA the last relatively flat & thus affordable pieces of land for the Latino/Asian/white middle classes is Inglewood and south central.

I imagine a lotta Latino groups, real estate developers, city and economic development types look at it w drool and say "all we gotta do is drive out these low rent hoods and we'll be the next LA real estate moguls....

It's not rocket science but simple space management.....
    , @Jack Cade
I stayed in a cheap hotel for 3 weeks in Inglewood a year ago, and the weather was perfect the entire time. Yeah, the planes go by - I was about a mile, if that, to the airport. But it wasn't any worse than the incessant train hooting in my midwestern city-in fact it was quieter. Plenty of latinx, fewer blacks. My daughter (in LA) tells me there is very active discrimination to maintain the staus quo of racial mixes. For example she thought maybe (not sure - Marina del Ray, or a place at the north end of Inglewood) would be a place to live, but being white she was shunned, an her co-workers clued her in to the active 'profiling'

Cyclical. It became a slum because canny investors (cough Rachman cough) bought up initially homes of deceased old "respectable" white old ladies living in genteel poverty after the War, stuffed them full of people just off the Empire Windrush from the West Indies, noted the effect of Proximity to such Diversity on the original residents (sell up and go, sometimes with a little "encouragement" from hired harassers), and subsequently operated it as a deliberate method of leverage to increase their portfolios very cheaply. Pack 'em in with cheap rents, ignore maintenance and tenancy rights, maximise revenue per unit.
All the while claiming it was their humanitarian impulse to house the poor huddled masses, in the teeth of uncountable legions of cruel English racists and their "No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish" cards in the windows of lodging houses. For which not much evidence exists, just the usual urban tales (c.f. golf clubs).
The real villains in this are as usual the Local Authorities and Government, as there are quite clear regulations against the creation of slum conditions and gangsterism (Grenfell Tower), and have been for some time. Nelson's Eye is endemic in our administrative classes. Unless it can be taxed 'efficiently', that is.

The historical milieu and tactics are touched on momentarily and fairly soft-soapily in the film "An Education", which is worth a watch just for the splendid Rosamund Pike, hurling herself quite gloriously right OTT in what she does best.

Of course the author of the piece is not advocating racial separation, given the fact she makes this remark--A confession: My late husband moved with me to Inglewood in 2004. He was white, Jewish to be exact. But he was an outlier...He made himself part of a black space, serving on Inglewood’s police oversight commission, befriending youngsters (he was a teacher), pitching in to decorate trees on our block at Christmas. For lack of a better term, he integrated."

She is remarking how past white dominated areas became "darker", only to see it later become "paler". But it would seem that if the "pale faces" were as dedicated as her husband as assisting in helping the community out, she would not be as displeased with black people having to leave.

Please note that it is white landlords who are selling out to their brethren. Over 60% of Inglewood residents are black renters to either black or white landlords. Clearly, this percentage will not experience home equity through price appreciation, nor will they stem the tide of rising rents. Blacks and whites in Inglewood who own their home or who are engaged in commercial real estate are thus financially motivated to sell to anyone willing to pay the price, as property values have increased since the announcement and building of the new NFL stadium, with its surrounding environs also receiving a major facelift. And why wouldn't black people in Inglewood willingly choose to sell their home for above the list price if they are making a tidy profit, that is American capitalism in action.

Yet when white folks come back, it’s a problem. Neighborliness is the opposite of indifference, but you look down on Whitey’s neughborliness. Why? Because they don’t earn the right to be in the neighborhood by sitting still for your lectures and heartily begging your forgiveness afterwards?

Your last line nails it - whether we are talking about the 'refugees' flooding Europe or the racial demands of the progressives, what they all want is the wealth and benefits that come from a civilization and set of values that they reject. They seem to believe a) that the upside was some kind of accident, and b) they people and culture that produced this desirable arrangement can be replaced by others and still get the same effect/benefit.

It's not just progressives who have made this mistake - the neocons thought we could just waltz into Afghanistan and Iraq and turn them into productive and peaceful democracies despite the fact that they have been tribal/clan based societies for centuries.

    This is the actual pattern.

Certain groups of people settle somewhere in different areas and create a society.

Over time, those areas are designated by socio-economic status, with people moving in and moving out.

Those areas become home to a particular group of people befitting of that status.

However, for a host of reasons, one group of people (X), whose ancestors had settled originally there, decide to move back, thus eventually replacing another group of people (Y), who had moved in to displace that original group (X).
    , @Guest2
This ist a very good observation. However, in a lot of cases the last step does not consist of whites moving in but of blacks moving out as well until the whole neighbourhood or city ist a sparsely populated wasteland like Detroit.

Unfortunately, they took the trees too,

During the settlement of North America, potash made from tree ashes was exported back to Europe as fertilizer. As a result, less than one-quarter of original forests remain. Many forests are now small fragments dissected by fields and roads; these islands of green often differ substantially from the original forests, particularly along the edges.

As a former gentrifier myself, it seems blacks view real estate the same way Muslims view conquered territory – it doesn’t matter who it originally lived there, once it was under the control it should belong to them forever. I lived in a neighborhood in a large east coast city that was middle class white until the 50s, when it then became a black neighborhood and eventually the home base of a huge crack operation. As it gentrified in the 2000s, some long time neighbors (not most) were openly excited that white people started moving back in, but most were quietly resentful.

The same thing is happening in a neighborhood near downtown in my current city, where a local arts organization and some non-profits host events exploring how a neighborhood can turn around without displacing the people who already live there…needless to say, they don’t have an answer for that, other than various calls to ensure ‘equity’ for all.

I support whites living in Mission Viejo or in LA in one of the beach cities. I support newer suburbs in Orange County over Inglewood since it just advances the Liberal pushed to make big cities like LA more richer and Orange County and San Diego poorer by discouraging people living in Suburbs.

But over at The Atlantic, the focus is on exposing the foundation of “Trump’s agenda of discriminatory state violence”: the racism of whites and their refusal to “share this country with people of color as equals.”

    The Nationalist's Delusion
Trump’s supporters backed a time-honored American political tradition, disavowing racism while promising to enact a broad agenda of discrimination.

The specific dissonance of Trumpism, advocacy for discriminatory, even cruel, policies combined with vehement denials that such policies are racially motivated, provides the emotional core of its appeal.

While other factors also led to Trump’s victory...had racism been toxic to the American electorate, Trump’s candidacy would not have been viable.

[Trump voters embody] a peculiarly white American cognitive dissonance, that most worry far more about being seen as racist than about the consequences of racism for their fellow citizens. That dissonance spans the ideological spectrum, resulting in blanket explanations for Trump that ignore the plainly obvious.

A majority of white voters backed a candidate who assured them that they will never have to share this country with people of color as equals. That is the reality that all Americans will have to deal with, and one that most of the country has yet to confront.

The West Side and south lakefront of Chicago is similiar, both in opportunity and the fact that blacks freak out when whites move into the neighborhood.

No you don't. That's one of the reasons you lack "economic wealth."

"...out of the vacuum created by white flight, avoidance and indifference."

Yet when white folks come back, it's a problem. Neighborliness is the opposite of indifference, but you look down on Whitey's neughborliness. Why? Because they don't earn the right to be in the neighborhood by sitting still for your lectures and heartily begging your forgiveness afterwards?

I think what this person wants is white money and white civilization without white people.

Your last line nails it – whether we are talking about the ‘refugees’ flooding Europe or the racial demands of the progressives, what they all want is the wealth and benefits that come from a civilization and set of values that they reject. They seem to believe a) that the upside was some kind of accident, and b) they people and culture that produced this desirable arrangement can be replaced by others and still get the same effect/benefit.

It’s not just progressives who have made this mistake – the neocons thought we could just waltz into Afghanistan and Iraq and turn them into productive and peaceful democracies despite the fact that they have been tribal/clan based societies for centuries.

People commute amongst them all, and they are (with their actual suburbs, such as Santa Clara, Berkeley, Daly City, etc.) hubs for different activities: Oakland of transport and industry, San Francisco of finance, San José of science and technology….

– especially Mexinchifornia – will only accelerate apace….

Racial separation is the solution. Win-win for all.

Of course the author of the piece is not advocating racial separation, given the fact she makes this remark–A confession: My late husband moved with me to Inglewood in 2004. He was white, Jewish to be exact. But he was an outlier…He made himself part of a black space, serving on Inglewood’s police oversight commission, befriending youngsters (he was a teacher), pitching in to decorate trees on our block at Christmas. For lack of a better term, he integrated.”

She is remarking how past white dominated areas became “darker”, only to see it later become “paler”. But it would seem that if the “pale faces” were as dedicated as her husband as assisting in helping the community out, she would not be as displeased with black people having to leave.

And why wouldn’t black people in Inglewood willingly choose to sell their home for above the list price if they are making a tidy profit, that is American capitalism in action.

At some point people are going to Notice a pattern:

Whites settle somewhere and build civilization.

Blacks move in, whites move out.

Blacks ruin civilization (or American-style civilization, at least).

Whites come back, and bring civilization with them.

It's almost as of whites and American-style civilization go together.

  38. Blacks in Harlem repeat the same BS. We were always here and the whites and Asians moving in are interlopers. Truth is, blacks have been in Harlem for around 110 years. Harlem is a Dutch word. All of those magnificent brownstones now costing $3 million were built before blacks barged in and shoved the whites out. After blacks moved in, almost nothing got built. Now that it’s gentrifying, stuff is getting built. Funny how that happens. Lying about history is job 1 of the black power movement.

Clearly you need a history lesson. A number of brownstones in Harlem were constructed in the late 1880's/early 1890's by William Tuthill. Improvements in the L-train led to another boom in this area. But overpriced rents led to many vacancies. By 1905, Philip Payton, a black man (gasp), purchased a number of white-owned properties (how dare they sell him their homes!) and rented them to his brethren at 10% above market cost. Middle class blacks soon migrated here and built up the community.

  39. I’ve twice seen an influx of Negroes destroy vibrant White communities. First, in the early 1970s, when East Orange, NJ, turned from a pleasant suburb to a slum within the space of a year, then around a decade later, when most of Trenton, NJ underwent the same fate. It is the nastiness of Negroes that drives White flight. After Negroes have destroyed a neighborhood to the point where even they no longer want to stay, it is White money and entrepreneurship that gradually replaces Negroes in the process called re-gentrification. Ms. Kaplan’s major error is in assuming that identical, underlying, causal mechanisms are responsible for both the process of White flight and the process of re-gentrification.

    Yeah, those bastards!

I was approached by a young white woman who, like me, is an animal lover. Turns out she and her husband had moved into the neighborhood recently. “We like it so far,” she said brightly. Like it? I felt a rush of resentment at a remark that to her, I’m sure, was perfectly innocent.

But black people in particular will feel the sting. We will be out not just apartments and homes we can afford to rent or pay the mortgage on. We will lose our space, our place.

The pattern of shrinking black space is hardly new, by the way: Over the years, immigration and Latino growth remade traditionally black areas like South Central and Compton and Inglewood too.

But today’s white influx feels particularly ominous

I’m glad she is an evolved black women with a Jewish husband who wouldn’t consider ethnic displacement as an existential threat.

But if you work eastward or northward (i.e., anywhere near Downtown), Inglewood does not have easy freeway access; the 405 veers westward up the coast at that point. According to Google Maps, driving the 10 miles from Inglewood to the Staples Center would take 30+ minutes right now, 40+ if you stick to the side streets. That’s not much quicker than coming in from a more distant suburb with easy freeway access.

I attended an autoshow near summers end and overheard an amussing, at least to me, quip.
A group of young (aged ~30) latinos brought out half a dozen beatifully restored '59 Impala convertibles. I was dazzled, as I had never seen more than two or three at a single gathering prior to this. I spoke with them breifly, saying something about how fortunate they were to be able to afford such nice cars at thier age. Their response was a bit of a surprise to me. They launched into a diatribe about how they were being pushed out of their neighborhood by Indians.  Of course they were speaking of East Indians.  They complained they no longer could afford to live in their "own" neighborhood.

This meme was nothing new to me.  The very modest home in which I was raised set my father back  $29K in 1969.  The last sale of that house, a little worse for wear, was $1,240K.  Needless to say over time the vast majority of my childhood friends, family and acquaintances, have been displaced.

Anyway, I would guess the Southcentral LA population is split right down the owner/renter divide as to whether or not white re-invasion is a good thing or not?

More than "this person", you've nailed the geneis of this entire left/multiculti/immigration/feminist hissy fit. They demand all the goodies that white men produce ... while getting to ridicule, harass, beat-on and emasculate white men.

It's basically the rage of the of the parasites against the host.

“It’s basically the rage of the of the parasites against the host.”

Once the parasites have finished up, the maggots will move in to get what’s left.

I attended an autoshow near summers end and overheard an amussing, at least to me, quip.
A group of young (aged ~30) latinos brought out half a dozen beatifully restored ’59 Impala convertibles. They complained they no longer could afford to live in their “own” neighborhood.

You could also say that SF’s whites (and yellows) have made Oakland uninhabitable for whites by making San Francisco– OJ’s hometown– uninhabitable for NAMs, economically. They have to live somewhere.

I was approached by a young white woman who, like me, is an animal lover. Turns out she and her husband had moved into the neighborhood recently. “We like it so far,” she said brightly. Like it? I felt a rush of resentment at a remark that to her, I’m sure, was perfectly innocent. All I could think was: White folks abandoned Inglewood, and now they’re coming back with no memory or acknowledgment of all that, expecting neighborliness?

I think the young white woman is ignorant for different reasons, but this passage reveals a selective conflation that’s at the root of most modern black perceptions about society: white individuals are to blame (if not legally, then morally) for perceived historical or collective white transgressions against blacks. However, blacks – neither individually or collectively – are to blame for black transgressions against whites. When it comes to black crime, black America suddenly transforms from a “community” into a sea of individuals who can’t incriminate each other with their behavior because that would be un-American. Only the person who committed the crime is to blame, and race? What’s that? So say black leftists.

White America largely sees this for what it is – unprincipled and self-deluded – but the liberals and political class won’t say it out loud. Simmering below the surface, however, is an acknowledgement that equality has little to do with justice. Or equality, for that matter.

As a budding “black journalista,” Erin Aubry Kaplan ’83, M.F.A. ’87 couldn’t believe her luck when the Los Angeles Times asked her to cover South Central Los Angeles after the 1992 riots.

Her challenge: to compensate for what her sources saw as decades of bad press by “The L.A. Crimes,” as they referred to her new employer.

“I saw the battle lines drawn not so much between positive and negative portrayals of black folks but between complete and incomplete,” the Inglewood native recalls.

Oakland has been gentrifying, as has East Palo Alto, where many shacks now go for more than $1 million. It’s an easy drive to Facebook headquarters.

There is no major difference between neocons and liberals. The neocons want to unilaterally invade the world & invite the world while liberal interventionists want to invade the world & invite the world in partnership with global institutions.

This ist a very good observation. However, in a lot of cases the last step does not consist of whites moving in but of blacks moving out as well until the whole neighbourhood or city ist a sparsely populated wasteland like Detroit.

As a former gentrifier myself, it seems blacks view real estate the same way Muslims view conquered territory - it doesn't matter who it originally lived there, once it was under the control it should belong to them forever.

The same thing is happening in a neighborhood near downtown in my current city, where a local arts organization and some non-profits host events exploring how a neighborhood can turn around without displacing the people who already live there...needless to say, they don't have an answer for that, other than various calls to ensure 'equity' for all.

Your demographicd are somewhat out of date there. Oakland has already turned over, as has Harlem.

No freakin’ way. It’s true that blacks have given up a lot of ground to Hispanics and, to a lesser extent, Chinese. But I challenge you to point out a single Oakland neighborhood that’s more white today, than it was in 1980.

A million? I don’t think you’ll find anything in EPA for over $500k or so, and that’ll be in the sliver of it that’s west of the 101 and right up against San Francisquito Creek. (And on the first street across that creek is Mark Zuckerberg’s house.)

Just a minor superfluous point. The cheapest SFH in EPA is currently listed @ $735K. ~$1M is close to median there currently. EPA, once the murder Per capita honoree of CA, is rapidly turning brown.

Another point of interest is that the SF Bay Area public schools "lucky enough" to fill with Asian (including East Indian) students move a point or two, year over year, from scoring a dismal 4 or 5 Great School ranking up to 9 or 10. Similar teachers, same facilities, and magic dirt.

East San Jose's "Escuela Popular Accelerated Family Learning School" scores @ 1, but surrounding houses are selling near $1M. Google bus will stop by to pick you up if your lucky enough to live in that hood.

There is a scene in “An Education” with Carey Mulligan in which screenwriter Nick Hornby is franker about real estate blockbusting than you’d expect.

I stayed in a cheap hotel for 3 weeks in Inglewood a year ago, and the weather was perfect the entire time. Yeah, the planes go by – I was about a mile, if that, to the airport. But it wasn’t any worse than the incessant train hooting in my midwestern city-in fact it was quieter. Plenty of latinx, fewer blacks. My daughter (in LA) tells me there is very active discrimination to maintain the staus quo of racial mixes. For example she thought maybe (not sure – Marina del Ray, or a place at the north end of Inglewood) would be a place to live, but being white she was shunned, an her co-workers clued her in to the active ‘profiling’

Now that it's gentrifying, stuff is getting built. Funny how that happens. Lying about history is job 1 of the black power movement.

“All of those magnificent brownstones now costing $3 million were built before blacks barged in and shoved the whites out. After blacks moved in, almost nothing got built.”

Clearly you need a history lesson. A number of brownstones in Harlem were constructed in the late 1880′s/early 1890′s by William Tuthill.

Go to Youtube and have a look-see at the city in the 1970s and 1980s. Most of the brownstones in Harlem were boarded up with plywood. The insides were burnt out from heroin and crack addicts using them to get high. The city under Ed Koch was giving away some of the brownstones for a dollar. How is that building up the community?

But you see, this is what I'm talking about. The black community tells hilarious, bald-faced lies about their own history. Lies that are easily debunked with some basic sleuthing.

As for Payton, yes, he was the original block buster. Hey, I give the guy credit. He did it the right way. He had some money, got some investors together and turned Harlem into Chocolate Town. He didn't use guilt-tripping and government gibsmedat to get his way. It seems the black community has really regressed from 100 years ago, in many ways.

white residents saw black newcomers not as neighbors but invaders, existential threats to their property values and to an ironclad social order. They could not, would not, live where we lived. The fact that whites are coming back to this once very contested space is not, I fear, evidence of the meaningful integration that has long eluded us. It’s a warning that my black community is, once again, irretrievably at risk.

[Trump voters embody] a peculiarly white American cognitive dissonance, that most worry far more about being seen as racist than about the consequences of racism for their fellow citizens.

Well the Atlantic is nothing if not true to form. I thought Trump voters didn’t care about their ‘racism’ showing. Which is it?

A majority of white voters backed a candidate who assured them that they will never have to share this country with people of color as equals.

Trump said that? Darn, I missed it. You’d think an assurance like that would be easy to find via Google.

  105. You know that as soon as we make a nice new neighborhood, all the non-whites will come, starting with the Asians, with all the wonders that they bring, rudeness, loud talking everywhere, no community spirit whatsoever. Then the cucks at the city council will vote for more “affordable housing” and “diversity”, a.k.a. build a whole bunch of apartments, which will bring in the Hispanics, each family with their 5 kids living in 2 bedroom apartments, then blacks. Once the neighborhood goes black, it never goes back. And there goes another nice white suburb down the toilet.

That is your false characterization, not mine. By 1932, approximately half of black Americans were out of work. In some Northern cities, whites called for blacks to be fired from any jobs as long as there were whites out of work. Racial violence became more common, in particular in the South. Reported lynchings here increased in the early 1930′s. So if you want to remain consistent using your “animal reference”, you best designate it in the appropriate context.

“You said Payton and his transplanted blacks built Harlem. They did no such thing. They simply moved black bodies into brownstones built in the 1890s by white people. That’s not building. It’s colonizing.”

Many structures were in place. But building a community is not squarely just construction, it’s businesses, restaurants, churches, and schools. Your “colonizing” reference is simply silly, as other ethnic groups have engaged in similar moves, i.e. one ethnic group leaves, another ethnic group comes in.

Please note that when Harlem was founded, slaves had cleared much of Manhattan for residences and farms. Some even received their freedom or were granted farmland. Dutch rulers, however, were displaced in 1664 by the English, who had abolished black land ownership by 1716. The remaining free blacks lived on the outskirts of town in shanties, with nearly similar prohibitions and restrictions as slaves. Would you call the behavior of the English as being “animalistic”?

“Show me the great construction projects that went up in Harlem between 1910 and 1990. There are none, with the exception of Sec. 8 projects.”

Apartment buildings constructed in Harlem included the Paul Laurence Dunbar Complex (1928) as cooperatives for black families from the middle class.

Just a minor superfluous point. The cheapest SFH in EPA is currently listed @ $735K. ~$1M is close to median there currently. EPA, once the murder Per capita honoree of CA, is rapidly turning brown.

Another point of interest is that the SF Bay Area public schools “lucky enough” to fill with Asian (including East Indian) students move a point or two, year over year, from scoring a dismal 4 or 5 Great School ranking up to 9 or 10. Similar teachers, same facilities, and magic dirt.

East San Jose’s “Escuela Popular Accelerated Family Learning School” scores @ 1, but surrounding houses are selling near $1M. Google bus will stop by to pick you up if your lucky enough to live in that hood.

Dang. I could swear I looked into those prices no more than three years ago.

I'm looking at Zillow now...here's an EPA house for sale at $1.3 million (nice front-yard chainlink fence!). Last sold in 2010 for $350k. Ok, 2010 was still the early days of the recovery, but in July 2008 — before the crash — that house sold for $306k. For some reason, Zillow has zero price history on any of the other houses I've clicked on.

All right, you win. This time ;)

It’s not just progressives who have made this mistake – the neocons thought we could just waltz into Afghanistan and Iraq and turn them into productive and peaceful democracies despite the fact that they have been tribal/clan based societies for centuries.

Neocons are mostly communists (“progressives”) who moved over to the GOP to infiltrate it and take advantage of their comfort with muscular foreign policy and relationship with the armaments industry.

Black women who marry Jews seem to take a lot of pride in having that Jewish name.

The pride is probably more in being one of the rare, lucky blacks who can persuade a Jew to marry them.

Oh I see. The Great Depression caused blacks to behave like animals and burn down their housing stock. (fake news alert!)

You said Payton and his transplanted blacks built Harlem. They did no such thing. They simply moved black bodies into brownstones built in the 1890s by white people. That's not building. It's colonizing.

Show me the great construction projects that went up in Harlem between 1910 and 1990. There are none, with the exception of Sec. 8 projects. Which aren't great at all. What you saw there in 1985 were the same buildings that were there 75 years earlier. But in much worse shape.

The Great Depression caused blacks to behave like animals and burn down their housing stock.

Will you please leave animals out of this? Burning down their own homes is about the last thing animals would ever do, and don’t anyone start with Bizarre Nature Stories.

People always compare subhumans to animals. I’ve no idea why. Animals are noble and rational. It’s humans that specialise in things like sadism and armageddon.

I’m fascinated by the concept of “gentrification”. It appears to be the phenomenon where whites come back and pave economically and socially depressed colored communities with “magic dirt”. The communities thrive.

However, the current residents of these depressed communities resent “gentrification”. It is economic and racial segregation (“white racism”) all over again) … something that white Republicrats and Democrans both practice in their private lives.

The colored residents in the depressed communities seemingly take their “tragic dirt” with them when they move somewhere else. If they were displaced onto “magic dirt”, it becomes “tragic dirt” in short order.

That’s not fair, but at a loss to explain it. Does anyone have a credible “Theory of Dirt” that can make sense of this?

No freakin' way. It's true that blacks have given up a lot of ground to Hispanics and, to a lesser extent, Chinese. But I challenge you to point out a single Oakland neighborhood that's more white today, than it was in 1980.

I lived there in the 80s, and Rockridge was, or seemed, 100% white. I don't have a good sense about Temescal; there was nothing there so I never went there.

Maybe you know something I don't, but considering the overall trend, which is that there are fewer whites overall in Oakland now than there were in 1980, it would be hard for any specific, and large, areas to have gained white population. According to Wikipedia, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oakland,_California, nonhispanic whites went from 50% in 1970 to 25% in 2010. (They don't give a number for 1980 and granted it's no longer quite 2010, but still.)

I grew up in Detroit, and personally witnessed the destruction of a once-great city. There are a number of reasons for Detroit’s decline that have never been explored or discussed.
    1. “Blockbusting” by greedy real estate agents. Real estate agents would send out postcards with the following: “A new family is moving into your neighborhood. If you want to sell your house, please call me at xxx-xxxx”. A “new family” was a euphemism for black families, and was used to “encourage” whites to sell their homes.
    2. HUD (Housing and Urban Development) speculators and real estate hustlers conspired to buy up” and raze the best houses on every block, in certain sections of the city. Quite often, “shacks” were left standing while decent housing was purchased by HUD and razed. This was done purposely to depress property values, to make it easier for speculators to purchase properties at “bargain basement” prices.
I realize that items 1 and 2 counteract each other and are at cross purposes, but they were a reality in 1960s Detroit.
    3. The 1967 riots did much to push whites out of Detroit. A little-known aspect of the Detroit riots was the application of spray-painted words on the exteriors of black-owned businesses. The words “soul brother” was spray-painted on businesses owned by blacks so that the “angels of death” (actually rioters) would spare them from destruction. Whole business districts around the city were destroyed, never to regain their former successful selves.
    4. The election of Coleman Alexander Young, Detroit’s first black mayor, who was overtly racist to Detroit’s white citizens while “getting along just fine” with the “movers and shakers” (big business people) of the day (as long as the campaign donations kept coming in)….
    5. The abolition of the STRESS (Stop The Robberies, Enjoy Safe Streets). This anti-criminal program was put in by mayor Young’s predecessor and was quite successful in “cleaning up the streets” of criminals. In this program, police officers would disguise themselves as vulnerable old people and walk through neighborhoods as “decoys”. Predatory criminals would attempt to rob these elderly citizens and quite often, were dispatched to “the great hereafter”. One of Young’s campaign promises was the abolition of the STRESS program as too many of “his people” were being eliminated. Upon the election of Young, the program was disbanded.
These are 5 reasons for this once-great city’s demise.

A good example of disparity exists in retail establishments in urban areas for good reason. . . .
Compare hardware stores in urban areas and suburban / rural areas.
The suburban / rural hardware store has everything out in the open. Customers are free to pick and choose, examine the merchandise, take it to the cashier and purchase their products. Help is readily available.
The urban hardware store has everything behind Plexiglas. One cannot even purchase a twenty-five cent plumbing fitting without having to ask for it. The employees are safely sequestered behind Plexiglas and may be unwilling to venture beyond their safety barriers. Quite often, a security guard is posted at the door to “inspect” purchases and act as a deterrent to “shoplifting”.
On a personal note, my local (rural) hardware store experienced a power outage. The proprietor of the store gave incoming customers flashlights so that they could shop while power was being restored. Try doing that in an urban hardware store. Both flashlights and merchandise would be picked clean . . .

The most relevant quantity in a discussion about the progress of 'gentrification' in an area is not simply the % of whites but the % of SWPL whites. In 1970 and before most of Oakland's whites were working class, with some UMC families in the hills. Since ~1990 Oakland has had a massive loss of poor blacks and to a lesser extent working class whites in exchange for a massive gain of Asians and SWPL whites. It is one of the major case studies in gentrification.

Way, way beyond insufferable and smug. It moved to California, or need I add.

Stephen Fogel, son of Nobel economics winner Robert Fogel and his black wife Enid, was a talented chef and a great guy. He and his partner had an excellent restaurant in the Wollaston section of Quincy MA back in the 80s, but the local Irishmen weren’t thrilled to have a gay black Jew making their food.

I think the issue is whites not allowing People of Color to have ANYTHING. whites would do well to ask People of Color what to do and how to behave. We need to defer to them and admit our privilege. Watch Insecure by Issa Rae. This is why demographic change is so important

Black Women are right to feel anxious about whites. white men are known violent rapists. white women are promiscuous seductresses who prey on Black Men constantly

Slightly off-topic, but not that long ago I read an really jaw-dropping, longform biographical account of a family trying to hold onto their neighborhood as the rest of their community left under the increasing violence of integration in the 60s or 70s. It was written by the oldest son I believe, and I think it took place in Philly or maybe somewhere in New Jersey. A lot of it revolved around trying to hold onto the basketball courts and youth centers, until those places became totally unsafe for the few remaining white youths.

Does anyone have a link to this article? Needless to say, Googling anything remotely like this is generating a lot of Kaplan-esque takes on white flight from places like Salon.

So, back when whites were moving out of the inner city to the suburbs, that was 'racism'. But now that whites are moving back into the same neighborhoods they previously abandoned ... well, that too, apparently, is 'racism'. Please help me. I'm so confused!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29BoqCMRBFk

The whites that want to move there are also pretty liberal. In fact among Democrats whites are more liberal than blacks or Latinos. The left is divided on the issue. Personality, I don’t support genfrication because it brings in liberal whites back to the cities and makes the cities have better paying jobs. I support whites living in Mission Viejo or in LA in one of the beach cities. I support newer suburbs in Orange County over Inglewood since it just advances the Liberal pushed to make big cities like LA more richer and Orange County and San Diego poorer by discouraging people living in Suburbs.
