CNN and others are breathlessly reporting that the CPD have arrested the two suspects now, proving that the story was legit all along!

They're also reporting all of the original "details" as fact at this point. Way down in the story are a few loose ends, but only MAGA types would want to make anything out of that, and we all know they're racist.

    https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/02/15/entertainment/jussie-smollett-suspects/index.html

The MSM are determined to win this one. They usually do.

LGBTQ people of color still experience hate crimes at higher rates than white and heterosexual people

Probably 'cause no crime against YT and hetero qualifies as "hate".
  2. It wasn’t Jussie. It was clearly those two disreputable foreigners who were responsible. You wouldn’t have this sort of thing if Trump was in the White House!

    • Replies: @Hail

    two disreputable foreigners

    That's actually a decent angle.

How did this pair of rocket scientists get visas?
  3. I think poeple here like this story because they take famous, prominent people’s support of cases as Smolett’s at face value and treat it as evidence that they they’re smarter than all these public figures. But the fact is that, irregardless of whether poeple actually believe Smolett, these cases actually serve these people’s rational political interests so they it’s perfectly rational and intellignet to support people like Smolett (and then just stop discussing it if it blows up). All the people here who style themselves as rational and intelligent, get these cases right more often than the cultural elite does, but just go on supporting an anti regulation ideology that is responsible for this problem to begin with and support candidates like Trump who has made the problem significantly worse byfurther dergulating the broadcast television industry and removing requirements that television staions run local news operations.

    • Replies: @Disordered (with a bad memory)
Erm, what? If Smollett got it wrong, he got it wrong, regardless if he is famous. If the truth is silenced, well that's why we learned to communicate it... and why the people here comment. The anti-soviet resistance read samizdat, they had it much tougher...

Plus it's one thing to have a stronger control broadcast regulations - but those are flouted bipartisanly, not just by the business section of the Right. In fact the Right was often accused of censoring a lot in the Clinton and Bush eras, and it is the Left-liberal media complex that since Obama decides what is cool on TV, and celebrates people like Smollett. Placing your faith on airing local news (as if that never happened organically? Many local tv stations are available in several cable packages, and free on Youtube) will not make people stop watching Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Youtube, cable, etc... the worst you can complain about is the defunding of PBS, and even that has some positives, as that station has a certain unending liberal whiff... do wish the small towns that only get that and few other channels would still get the few nice scientific and children programs... I do agree that people need to localize their focus a bit; but at the same time, the US is a big country, it is inevitable for it to have national media. It can be controlled better - the question is, who can wield such power...

  8. What I take from this is at least Smollett assisted in keeping Valentine’s Day from being declared racist.. at least for one more year.

  9. Leave Jussie alone!

I like how he jumps immediately to the assumption that because we don’t believe Smollet, we believe “Black LGBT folk” are liars or “Black LGBT folk” don’t suffer violence.

I’m a racist if I generalize, but he immediately generalizes the hell out of the situation. Maybe, I just think Smollet, specifically, is a liar, like I think White CIS woman Christine Blasey Ford is a liar and I think White CIS man Bill Clinton is a liar. Maybe I think liars are liars.

    To hell with “those people.”

    • Replies: @Steve Sailer
    Thanks.
  10. I’m starting to think that “hate *hoax*” is an imprecise term, because it lays emphasis on the victim’s attention-seeking intention. But the more important social phenomenon we’re seeing here (and elsewhere) concerns the reaction from some large segment of the public: the need of the “faithful” to vindicate their belief.

When a religious miracle–the apparition of a saint, a “miracle”-cure–proves to be a hoax, or merely mistaken, it may disperse the crowd of onlookers who gathered to bear witness to the Miracle, but it doesn’t demoralize their belief in miracles as such, or in the religious faith underpinning the hope for miracles. That faith may even emerge from the hoax stronger for having survived in spite of factual disproof.

Aren’t we seeing the same thing in the reaction to these hoaxes? It’s a kind of religious enthusiasm, of the kind you might see when three kids claim to have seen a devotional painting cry. Perhaps we should call them Hate Miracles or Hate Apparitions?

But understand that for this very reason, the reaction of the faithful will be impervious to argument, and even to the confession of the hoaxer. Steve’s advice to “pounce” may be misguided: only a pedant cares about what ” actually happened” in these situations; the real importance of the event is that it awakened or inspired greater faith. And that can only be a good thing (you apostate).

Who we are is to always act to support the Numinous Negro, who happens to be the toy of, first, the WASP Elite and then the Jew and now the alphabet soup of queerdom.

  12. It’s a moral imperative we let these people speak their truth.

  13. No one believes this guy…on another website I was reading about this and there were a ton of commenter saying they were liberals but there is no question this dude made it up.

  16. Waaaaay off topic, but waiting for a post from Steve on the AOC vs. Amazon fiasco. My bet is AOC just signed her own political death warrant. It’s one thing to spout off silly utopian Twitter posts. It’s barely tolerable to sponsor pie in the sky nom-binding resolutions 2 years before the next presidential election. But killing a multi billion dollar project that was surely greased by sweet heart deals for unions and politicians?

My bet is the next slowdown in the news cycle coincides with a scandal involving AOC. Something “anti-Semitic” is a safe bet. After that there will be no more favorable media stories. Her funding will dry up. She’ll get primaried in 2020 and will be back tending bar by Trump’s second inauguration.

I don't know, some of us on the right are pretty pleased that a city has finally seemed reluctant to open up the public purse to a private company. I would have preferred it was one of those conservatives that's always going on about "crony capitalism" to lead the charge against sweetheart public-private deals, but if it takes a Democrat to get something right for once, then that's the GOP's shame, not the Dem's.
    , @Hail

She has been consistently and carefully pro-Jewish.
    , @Tyrion 2
This has been the funniest. How it's not ok for Amazon to bring thousands of jobs to your neighbourhood but it is ok for millions upon millions of people, who bring very little, to infiltrate your country.
    , @Whiskey
Why would you think that? Sure the older White Dems wanted Amazon there. but her backers did not.

There is a war among the Democrats, and the older White leaders are losing. Bigly.

First, they are old. There are no new up and coming White leaders. Even those who LARP as non Whites like Beta Male O'Rourke can't really gain any traction. The real action is among Ocasio-Cortez, and Ilhan Omar, who have NATIONAL followings and fundraising ability and are the darlings of the media and the leftist activist machines. What does Cuomo have? Nothing as he's on his way out.

Second, the money behind Cortez and people like her are from the radical billionaires like Tom Steyer, individuals like Ed Buck, and the upwardly aspiring professional class of non-Whites. Think Manuel Lin Miranda. There is enough room in Democratic Politics for the Pelosi family or the Cortez family but not both. Which one is younger, has more demographic heft, and has more money backing it?

As an oppressed White minority in a suddenly non-White majority nation, this has two edges to the sword. On the one hand the leaders of this nation will all be non-White within ten years. ALL of them, President included. I'd be surprised if Trump lasts a year btw. The new non White leadership is not likely to be very smart. On the other hand, the new non-White leadership will be fueled by a vindictive sense of pursuit into the weeds of every last White man. If you though Covington and the Haven Monaghan escapades were nasty, wait until every straight White men is sentenced to a gulag for thought crime against St. Jussie Smollet.
    , @Lot
AOC was right here. Bidding with "tax incentives" for companies is stupid. Just cut taxes for everyone.

Also, Bezos was not planning on hiring PRs/Dominicans for his HQ2. He was going gentrify them out of that part Queens. Maybe for the best, but it is reasonable for them to oppose it.
    , @Bill P
Ask those of us who are (former) Seattlites about what Amazon does to your city. The people of Queens dodged a bullet.
    , @Anon
This is a major reputation hit for NYC. Most people in tech were already viewing NYC as increasingly luddite. This probably cements it.
    , @Ghost of Bull Moose
The Democrats in NYC are tearing each other to shreds over the Amazon fiasco. That can only be good, whatever you think of Amazon. Personally I hate Amazon, and I buy everything there.

Listening to AOC, it almost seems as if some of the radicals actually think they can use the $4 billion tax "break" for something else now!

Not only did AOC & co. kick away major development in an area featuring storage units, empty lots and the Rikers' Island bus drop-off, they vaporized hundreds of jobs for custodians and maintenance personnel who would have all been union members of 32BJ.

The local small business owners are livid. Of the 25,000 jobs Amazon would have brought, instead of 'not enough' jobs for residents of Queensbridge houses there will exactly none. The residents of Q'bridge and Ravenswood houses, the Greek taverna owners in Astoria, all furious.

They were going to fill half of the almost-empty Citibank tower, renting a million square feet. Forget that now.

This was a win for the people who bang on pots and pans: Make the Road, New York Communities for Change and various other publicly funded anti-white Bolshie profitnons. I'd imagine Cuomo and BdB will make it their business to ruin the political careers of Mike Gianaris, Jimmy Van Bramer, Jessica Ramos and the other bomb throwers. deBlasio was pretty steamed and made some pointed remarks in AOC's direction on Brian Lehrer's show. He's been known to look for payback.

AOC is very dangerous, but there's no doubt her wing of fanatics is running rampant through the Democrat party. The MAGA revolution in the GOP is pretty much a fait accompli, but the Democrats are confronting their own side of the Great Realignment.

    , @Buffalo Joe
Commuter, New York State, through Andrew Cuomo, build Elon Musk and his Solar City Brand a $750 million dollar sprawling plant in Buffalo. Deal was he had to provide 1400 jobs,. Deadline is soon and no where near that many jobs and solar panels are not selling. Cuomo even paid for the machinery and equipment. Buffalo will probably have the world's biggest indoor flea market or driving range in another year.

As I understand what he’s saying, reading down into his tweets, he believes that Smollett is telling the gospel truth, but even if he’s lying, it doesn’t change anything, because somewhere else there is a gay black guy really getting the crap beaten out of him, and we should be thinking about that, so thank God Jussie faked this assault so we could have the opportunity to have a national dialog about intersectional Afrohomos.

    That's Thomas Piketty's "Capital."

I wonder if she read it, or he read it, or, as is the case with most who bought it, neither has. It was a popular book to whip out on the subway to signal your intellectual hipness when it came out, accounting for its very low Kindle-to-hardback sales ratio, since you can't signal with a Kindle book.

Piketty's book was the genesis of the current obsession with the wealth gap, which has grown to encompass the redlining conspiracy.

Why would you think that? Sure the older White Dems wanted Amazon there. but her backers did not.

There is a war among the Democrats, and the older White leaders are losing. Bigly.

First, they are old. There are no new up and coming White leaders. Even those who LARP as non Whites like Beta Male O’Rourke can’t really gain any traction. The real action is among Ocasio-Cortez, and Ilhan Omar, who have NATIONAL followings and fundraising ability and are the darlings of the media and the leftist activist machines. What does Cuomo have? Nothing as he’s on his way out.

I’d be surprised if Trump lasts a year btw. The new non White leadership is not likely to be very smart. On the other hand, the new non-White leadership will be fueled by a vindictive sense of pursuit into the weeds of every last White man. 51. This thread is dominated by Off Topic remarks. Let me make a simple On Topic comment.

The issue is whether you should credit an on camera assertion by a black person or disbelieve it out of hand. I think the recent evidence favors the latter. If there is a black face giving testimony on some issue or state of affairs there is a very good chance that the story is a fabrication.

Think of all the black witnesses who came on camera during the Ferguson events to testify as too what the “gentle Giant” did and didn’t do before he was shot. All lies. Yet no black leaders have denounced such lies nor have any of the liars been punished. The de facto position of American jurisprudence is that black witnesses are expected to tell wild confabulations as a matter of course.

I accept that that’s how the professionals react to black testimony so I – acceding to their experience and judgement – I do so too. If I hear a black man testify to some factual state of affairs I simply don’t believe it. This is of course the very definition of racial prejudice but in my case it was learned not from some hate screed but simply watching cable news.

  81. @Pat Boyle

Think of all the black witnesses who came on camera during the Ferguson events to testify as too what the "gentle Giant" did and didn't do before he was shot. All lies. Yet no black leaders have denounced such lies nor have any of the liars been punished. The de facto position of American jurisprudence is that black witnesses are expected to tell wild confabulations as a matter of course.

I accept that that's how the professionals react to black testimony so I - acceding to their experience and judgement - I do so too. If I hear a black man testify to some factual state of affairs I simply don't believe it. This is of course the very definition of racial prejudice but in my case it was learned not from some hate screed but simply watching cable news.

Indeed, per my second named law, this is entirely reasonable because their culture has traded objective reality for tribalism: everything they say is an intertribal negotiation. If they are worried about this they can deactivate the condition by the exact same standards that attain elsewhere, ie, have a source beyond their own lying ass.

  83. @Lot
Is it possible the Nigerian gigalos beat him up wearing whiteface around their eyes and ski masks and blabbing about MAGA, fooling a heavily stoned Jussie on a munchies run to Subway?

Probably not, but I can't dismiss this completely.

Exactly. If you can’t prove it didn’t happen, then chances are it did happen. Just the way we said.

We may think this is nonsense, but most news consumers (not to mention jurors) think this way. And this goes triple when there’s a MAGA factor.

Which is one of several reasons why we put MAGA factors in wherever we can.

Synchronicity. There are only a couple of underlying themes to this whole hoax/fraud blackmail scheme.
    1) Blacks are neither inferior or superior. They're just maladapted to life in northern European style civilizations. Plus, many blacks are just plain ugly, in more ways than one.
    2) Blacks have race realism b/c they live with it every day. Rather than confront their dilemna, they project all their failings onto whites. Hence, color-blindness is racism because reasons.
    3) Elities fear whites b/c without the Haber-Bosch process and phosphate mining, the planet's carrying capacity is about one biilion under perfect conditions, about half that under realistic conditions. Whites make a dangerous underclass. Ergo use blacks and brown to get rid of whites.
    4) All the preemptive pushback against non-existent white prejudice against homosexuals and transgenders is a means to short circuit our natural adverson to unnatural things. Ergo, homosexuality is the norm, black is beautiful, and we're all lemmings. Or so they hope.

The Democrats in NYC are tearing each other to shreds over the Amazon fiasco. That can only be good, whatever you think of Amazon. Personally I hate Amazon, and I buy everything there.

Listening to AOC, it almost seems as if some of the radicals actually think they can use the $4 billion tax “break” for something else now!

Not only did AOC & co. kick away major development in an area featuring storage units, empty lots and the Rikers’ Island bus drop-off, they vaporized hundreds of jobs for custodians and maintenance personnel who would have all been union members of 32BJ.

The local small business owners are livid. Of the 25,000 jobs Amazon would have brought, instead of ‘not enough’ jobs for residents of Queensbridge houses there will exactly none. The residents of Q’bridge and Ravenswood houses, the Greek taverna owners in Astoria, all furious.

They were going to fill half of the almost-empty Citibank tower, renting a million square feet. Forget that now.

This was a win for the people who bang on pots and pans: Make the Road, New York Communities for Change and various other publicly funded anti-white Bolshie profitnons. I’d imagine Cuomo and BdB will make it their business to ruin the political careers of Mike Gianaris, Jimmy Van Bramer, Jessica Ramos and the other bomb throwers. deBlasio was pretty steamed and made some pointed remarks in AOC’s direction on Brian Lehrer’s show. He’s been known to look for payback.

AOC is very dangerous, but there’s no doubt her wing of fanatics is running rampant through the Democrat party. The MAGA revolution in the GOP is pretty much a fait accompli, but the Democrats are confronting their own side of the Great Realignment.

I think poeple here like this story because they take famous, prominent people's support of cases as Smolett's at face value and treat it as evidence that they they're smarter than all these public figures. But the fact is that, irregardless of whether poeple actually believe Smolett, these cases actually serve these people's rational political interests so they it's perfectly rational and intellignet to support people like Smolett (and then just stop discussing it if it blows up).
