There isn’t much that is new on the noose front, but from Mediaite:

Behind the Scenes, It’s Clear Chicago Media and Police Doubt Jussie Smollett’s Story
by John Ziegler | Feb 9th, 2019, 12:33 pm 397

I can’t recall a large crime story where there was a bigger gap between what the police and media are saying publicly, and what they expressing behind the scenes, than the saga involving the recent alleged hate crime against actor Jussie Smollett. Similarly, there may not be a story where you can tell more by what has not happened, in comparison to what actually has occurred. …

Behind the scenes, however, based on conversations I have had with multiple people covering the story, there is a radically different take on what really did happen to Smollett. In short, there is near unanimity among police sources that Smollett’s story is very likely not true. And that even the media outlets still regurgitating the current “party line” don’t really believe it.

In my experience, most people are very bad at reading the tea leaves in these types of situations, and it often leads to very inaccurate interpretations of what is really going on. …

The first thing you need to understand about this situation is that, because of Smollett’s persona and the nature of his allegation, no one in law enforcement or the news media wants any part of publicly questioning his story. Everyone knows that if they make any sort of negative implication against a black, gay, liberal, celebrity, victim of a horrible hate crime, that they will be roundly and severely attacked, regardless of whether they turn out to be correct. …

Among other things, the police have made it very clear they have not yet found any proof of an attack, despite having almost all of Smollett’s movements on surveillance video. They have disclosed that Smollett would not give over his cell phone to verify his timeline of events. They even published photos of “persons of interest” that they had to know were going to be universally mocked for being obviously irrelevant.

In my view, none of those important revelations would have been made public in the way that they were, unless there was extreme suspicion within the police force that Smollett’s story was not fully accurate.

By extension, media figures would not be being told by their police sources, as I have been told is currently happening both routinely and with vigor, that the authorities are acting on the assumption that they will never find any evidence to fully substantiate Smollett’s story. This isn’t just happening via idle speculation either, the police are doing so with great specificity, even including an alternative theory for what really happened (current attempts to find the origin of the rope found around Smollett’s neck long after the event was over are believed to be the most likely game-changer, if there ever is one in this case).

A few points: besides the national media not recognizing the recurrent existence of hate hoaxes, there also seems to be little recognition that local police forces have had a good record not losing their heads over them. People lie to cops all the time, so cops tend to be highly cynical about BS stories, even when the liars tick off currently fashionable talking points about who the putative Bad Guys were.

A lot of the most publicized hate hoaxes aren’t intended to be anti-white or anti-male hoaxes, they are just people making up stories for very personal reasons. E.g., UVA coed Jackie Coakley didn’t catfish Haven Monahan into digital existence to Stick It to The Patriarchy. She did it to make a boy she liked feel jealous enough to want to be her boyfriend. And hers was never a carefully worked out plot with no inconsistencies: for example, in Sabrina Rubin Erdely’s tapes of their conversation, Jackie constantly changes the name of the fraternity house she is accusing. But Jackie was at least clever enough never to tell her stupid story to a bunch of 95 IQ cops, just to a famous magazine that really, really wanted this ridiculous tale to be true.

Second, cops tend to take a sophisticated Bayesian approach to evaluating allegations. The media, however, approaches hate crime contentions from a childish Good Guys and Bad Guys standpoint. The sheer puerility of contemporary upscale discourse cannot be emphasized enough.

Third, just about anything involving 21st Century white people and nooses is fiction. I can recall being puzzled by what seemed like the first injection of nooses into The Narrative: the 2007 Jena HS football players brouhaha. Six star black football players in the small town of Jena, Louisiana had been running amok due to their Football Privilege (a useful but unknown concept), and finally got arrested for beating an unconscious white kid. The DA overcharged one and it became a giant national story with both Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson flying in.

The narrative went that the unconscious white kid deserved it because of endemic racism at his high school, as proved by other students hanging nooses a few months earlier. The white kids were baffled: they had done decorations for a party on a Cowboy theme. To the white kids, a hanging tree was a Western thing, like in the funniest segment in the Coen Brothers’ current movie The Ballad of Buster Scruggs where James Franco plays an 1873 bank robber whom the respectable citizens keep trying to hang for his crimes. Are the Coens racist for oppressing all their several dozen black fans by showing James Franco with a noose around his neck?

By current year standards, of course the Coens are racist. But it was all pretty baffling to whites back in 2007.

Now it could be that the Establishment will eventually will the lynching of blacks back into existence through their Stakhanovite efforts to plant the idea into even the dimmest white minds. In the Smollett story, we might eventually see whether that has happened yet.

  2. Detroit is and has been a chocolate city for a long time. There is always an excuse, always a reason the white deserves it.

Woman kidnapped and raped for shopping at a national chain drugstore just outside the D. The cops bust the rapists, their sister brings an obviously fake set of texts, like the reporter saw they were fake when she held the phone up, claiming the chick wanted it. Prosecutor declines to charge her.

Pastor starts a fight with the cops for taking a mental woman into custody, woman films his starting it. He was calling attention to racism, no charges.

Cops serving a warrant, perp drops from ceiling with a screwdriver and gets shot. Pastor claims he was fixing something and cops were races.

Old lady shopping just outside the D gets mugged, he beats the hell out of her. His family’s defense is she resisted him taking the purse, which he could do because she said the N word.

  3. There was somewhat analogous incident in Finland. A feminist author Katja Kettu described in a column how she had been a victim of attempted kidnapping and rape. She told a tale about being dragged to a van in Helsinki city centre by three men, but she managed to fight back. In the article she ended up recommending illegal pepper sprays and hoping that guillotine would be introduced as punishment, not the headchopping one, but a smaller one for castrating raping men.

When she published an anthology about violence against women a tabloid surfaced some doubts about the incident. She and other feminists were outraged. Apparently the only reason there was no police record was that she had left an online form, but neglected to press send.

Few years later she came out and confessed that she might have exaggerated, and instead of a attempted rape and kidnapping in the centre of the city, it might have been just some unwanted drunken attention. She was sorry for wrong rhetoric.

Her career hasn’t suffered. She has had her novels filmatized, been nominated for the most prestigious literary award. Her confession that she had “exaggerated” (lied) caused no repercussions and minimal publicity.

Black people honestly think that they own lynching (which they decree can only be done with with nooses) and slavery the same way they own the n-word. In other words, this could all be solved with a real high school education, but it will never be resolved as long as we depend on their understanding. We have to tell the child that we will not stay awake all night for the monster that disappears when you turn on the lights.

Sure, but the Coakley/UVA case was somewhat different in that the real story there was in large part about Erdely’s sensationalistic, irresponsible, and flagrantly prejudiced reporting (describing the UVA student body as “genteel,” “preppy,” “tan,” and “overwhelmingly blonde” — I went to UVA; the student body ain’t overwhelmingly blonde). The political agenda in that case may well have been all Erdely’s and not Coakley’s (although I imagine by the time Coakley was telling her story to Erdely, her sole objective was no longer to get her crush’s attention), but that seems to me to make the UVA case very much the exception rather than the rule. Usually, the people telling these stories of oppression have a crystal clear political agenda all their own.

Note how most hate crimes hoaxes are incredibly dumb. Like Smollett keeping the rope on for over 40 minutes, and claiming that he “fought the fuck back” while, at it turns out, retaining his phone (that helped his manager to “witness” the attack) AND his Subway sandwich. The attackers brought him down and beat him with hands and legs (and “teeth” in early versions) but all he got is a little scratch on a face with no bruising.

While it seems highly improbable that events transpired as Smollett described, it’s a doubtful that this was a “hoax” in the sense of something that was planned ahead of time and executed to achieve a specific result.

If this was his idea of a “hoax” then he’s beyond stupid—there are a million ways he could get attention and play the victim without involving the CPD spending hundreds and hundreds of man-hours trying to investigate, thus placing him in very real legal jeopardy and the possibility of a career-ending embarrassment.

It does seem CPD has established that he had clothesline around his neck and something on his shirt when he returned to his building (although how the guy would have an exposed “sweatshirt” in those temperatures is hard to fathom). This would suggest that something happened while he was out.

Given that, the smart money is on something unexpected and unwelcome happening to him, but not at all as he described it—most likely a drug deal or sex hookup gone awry. Gay men often have anonymous sex in public places—is it possible the rope had a sexual purpose, either for bondage or erotic asphyxiation? Could he have been attacked by a seedy paramour—or accidentally passed out or fallen? Either could have resulted in damage to his face—relatively minor but, for an actor in the middle of a shoot, necessitating some sort of sanitary explanation.

The real confounding factor is the hate mail he got some week or weeks before. Unless he’s really insane, he didn’t send it to himself, then wait and create a “hoax” so unconvincing that it could end his career. Likeliest explanation: he got a piece of racist hate mail, then when he got injured in an anonymous hookup or drug deal gone bad, he decided a “MAGA” attack as dreamt up by a first grader would line up well with the previously established evidence of the hate mail. If this is the case, he’s not crazy—just so stupid he thought people would believe that the kind of person who sent him hate mail would also be likely to buy some bleach and string, dress like a black-bloc antifa and lie in wait for him to pop out for Subway, then attack him while screaming that Chicago is “MAGA country”.

The FBI doesn’t screw around, and they may have luck IDing the mail sender. My bet is it’s a scorned lover or jealous peer—someone who also lives in an imaginary world populated, at least outside major cities, by nothing but racist, homophobic, inbred, Donald-Trump-loving bigots who binge-watch Empire.

But as to the main issue, my guess is the only link between the two events is that the first prompted him to create a ludicrous storyline for the second, which was a cover for a minor injury of embarrassing etiology—anonymous sex, possibly involving erotic asphyxiation, and/or a drug thing, probably crystal or coke—that, given his on-camera job, would require euphemistic explanation. While he was at it, he figured he might as grab some spotlight by making himself an intersectionally correct victim of all things Trump.

Question: am I the only one considering that the clothesline might be a sexual-enhancement device? Does no one remember this poor chap?

    https://nypost.com/2008/04/19/kinky-news-network/

CNN personality Richard Quest was busted in Central Park early yesterday with some drugs in his pocket, a rope around his neck that was tied to his genitals… the search also turned up a sex toy inside of his boot, and a small bag of methamphetamine in his left jacket pocket.

It wasn’t immediately clear what the rope was for.

Remember all those years ago when I first started to comment here? It was about cheating at schools (and the origin of my dispute with “Education Realist”). I wrote that when I first started teaching at a university, I always caught a few students cheating each year and most of them, invariably, were athletes. And the infuriating thing was that the administration put pressure on the department to let them off with a slap on the wrist.

They are not just mulattos (a Jewish father), but their natural hair color is not even black, but medium brown.

The sister, Jurnee Smollett was the star of the film, and the younger brother also played her younger brother in the film. I wouldn’t call them ‘black’, as I doubt they are more than 40% black.

And everyone knows that that means cops are dumb… but they have to be consistently smarter than the 85 IQ crooks they deal with. And also the occasional 100 IQ dude that murders his wife.

So a 125 IQ cop shouldn’t be out of the question. Except that we all (that is, isteve readers) know that 125 IQ cops would have disparate impact implications. 125 IQ cops would take up jobs for certain 95-104 IQ cops, and we can’t have that. But where does that leave the 125 IQ dudes? Can’t take menial jobs, can’t be cops, can’t do the jobs that actually take a 125 IQ… To paraphrase Homer Simpson, is there no place for the man with a 125 IQ?

Hate Hoax, sure but the national publicity shows there is a boundless appetite for feeding the hatred against Straight White Males. It will never end. It can never end.

And in my view it is a fool’s errand for Straight White men to try and appease the hate, the desire for hate, and those groups: non-Whites, gays, lesbians, most White women — who engage in hate fantasies against Straight White men.

Instead, Straight White men as we become an ever smaller group and ever less powerful need strategic fear-based deterrence. The kind of fear the $PLC creates in its annual shakedown to increase Morris Dees and Mark Potok’s $300 million modern art collection and half a billion in cash in Panama banks.

Jussie Smollet needs to get a class action lawsuit against him, and also his production company, Fox, and various media outlets for encourage anti-White Male hate. The more events like this the better: we can get the MSM’s balls in a vise and make them talk about hate hoaxes at some point if we do it right.

Hate hoaxes outnumber real hate attacks, such as they are, by maybe 20:1, maybe 100:1.

The last real hate attack I remember was when a bunch of misguided but enthusiastic haters-and they really were!-called The Order shot and killed radio broadcaster Alan Berg. That was 35 years ago.

Groups like the ADL and the $PLC have to manufacture haters since in real life there just aren’t enough of them to go around and most are lazy, boozers or disabled and just talk a lot.

Here in Overland Park we had the Glenn Miller incident where three people, none of which were actually Jewish, were shot and killed at a Jewish facility. The local haters, some of which I have friends who know them, let’s just say, universally agree that they knew Miller for decades and that he was an idiot and an informer and was probably artfully provoked into it by parties unknown. I was warned against talking to him by several people (most of which were not “haters” but just local different-thinkers) as early as 1999-2000. He was well known as being a kook and a fink.

Why would this embarrass him? Empire is a show made by black people, for black people. Probably the majority of the people watching the show still believe Mike Brown was an innocent Gentle Giant who got publicly executed for no reason.

And he’s not going to be in any REAL legal jeopardy. He’s a celebrity.

You know what I bet you is going to happen, if/when the police reveal that he made a false report? His lawyer is going to get his charges knocked down to community service.

And you want to know the best part?

That “community service” is going to be some form of lecturing people about the evils of racism.

I’d be willing to bet multiple hundreds of dollars on that.

Think about it. It’s perfect. Since the only point of racism lectures is to humiliate white people, wouldn’t it be amazing to force them to sit there and be lectured about how evil white people are by a guy who made up a blood libel about white people?

It’s what I would do if I was on the evil side, anyway.

  43. Chicago has had thousands of murders over the last five years. Not hyperbole, fact. This week a ONE YEAR OLD BLACK BOY was shot in the head in a drive by shooting. He is in critical condition, most likely will not survive. His mother was probably the target, as she has been shot before. The boy’s father is in a Federal Pen. The boy’s brother, same mother different father, was also in the car. That boy’s father was shot and killed a few years back. The CPD is spending hundreds of man hours on Smollett’s case, while their homicide closure rate is abysmal. Point is the CPD probably won’t be able to “solve” this case or Smollett’s.

And there’s fact that, as with hate hoaxes always turning out to be fake, this is kind of always what happens. I too should have a nice respected cite for every claim, but it is not just sloth but now paranoia that stops me, because I am suspicious of anyone who flat out refuses to believe that blacks act like blacks: such a critic will not be impressed by any citation anyway.
There is a major leftist blackpilling tactic I first noticed when Obamacare came in, and see applied any time a pattern had to be denied and legitimate victimhood is involved. Imagine if any time a Holocaust survivor spoke publicly, they were doused with water (to be clear I find this disgusting even as an image, but I use this illustration because I want people besides me to be disgusted by it too). This tactic is not simply a matter of demanding evidence (which is legitimate, if sometimes silly) or defaming someone as a liar (which is so inescapable in political discussion that the British Parliament just flat out bans pointing out lies no matter how obvious they are). The idea here is to humiliate the speaker to make them give up. A parallel is the hilariously self-defeating 4chan spam standard: if you racists say blacks are violent in public, we’ll kick your ass!
When Obamacare first came out, there were a lot of problems. Some people claimed to be drastically affected. A Detroit area political satire show read some of the complaints and then dismissed all of them as lies without any explanation. If you have a problem with America’s government-enabled byzantine hoopjumping for medical insurance, you must be lying. This was years before Trump’s campaign. The uncivility of it shocked me. Here was the left shoving off with their own crew, blithely unconcerned about winning over anybody not already on board.

The SAT girl has something in common with Smollett in that she was brought down by constructing her story without knowing the hand that ETS had, just as Smollett didn’t think about all the camera coverage and ability to trace the cord to Chicago retailers, who in turn have cameras.

The SAT girl figured that the score was rejected simply on the basis of the 330 point difference. Had her reading comprehension, and that of her mom and the carpetbagging “civil rights attorney,” been up to SAT standards, they would have read the initial ETS notice that attributed the rejection to answer similarities to the people sitting around her on test day.

But they doubled down with a press conference and national television interviews. So ETS invites them to see … the rest of the story. She had turned in her question booklet, with her name on it, as required, but it had no notes on it. Many of the math questions that she had correctly answered would require some pencil and paper work unless you are an autistic math savant who sees musical tones in color and can tell the day of the week from dates 100 years ago because you have an internal calendar that displays in seven dimensions.

This tactic of not showing your full hand and waiting until your, uh, opponent makes up a story based on what he thinks you know is the most effective way of dealing with bullshitters. The cops use it. I think the media should use it more often. Withhold some facts, wait for a response, then confront the person with more of the facts.

Also, pet peeve: I think that universities should not offer admission someone who is a demonstrated lier and cheater, and should expel any kid caught cheating or plagiarising. And ETS should withhold all her tests and not let her take it again. Let carpetbagger sue them. And they can countersue since she defamed them. Maybe that would revive her GoFundMe for $100,000 for legal expenses that stalled out at something south of $500.

Maybe if you find what motivated him to send himself a hate-hoax letter in the first place, we can know why he decided to try and corroborate that hoax with a second hoax, however pathetic an attempt it is. Is it supposed to be the same MAGA rogues in each instance? Or would he have us believe that these caricatures villains so oddly familiar with his face and filmography are common throughout the country? Or maybe it’s a very dedicated group of stalkers… he’s being *gang stalked*. Yes that must be it. Jussie Smollett is a TARGETED INDIVIDUAL or T.I. as they call themselves (schizophrenics as the doctors call them.)

Irrelevant, really. The first case did not get near as much press, and he was not seeking it as desperately.

Here’s my best guess: he failed a drug test for work, or in some similar way garnered negative attention on the job. His job was in jeopardy. The best excuse he could muster was that he was getting hate mail that was stressing him out. Instant victim status, higher ups declare they will not rest until the perps are behind bars… need arises to fake hate mail. Ok, this mail is a crime due to white powder so higher authorities are now involved. Fake new hate crime to corroborate old fake hate crime. Seek tons of publicity despite the farcical nature of the story and use press and public as a PR posse of backup.

Some say she’s dead. That seems far fetched. A 4chan user posted dark and grainy photos that supposedly show RBG in a coma in a facility in Nevada. Could also be a hoax/larp.

I’ll get to the point. What are the odds Ginsburg has a living will? Close to 100%. She is a lawyer/judge/widow whose husband died of cancer. She has one. What is in it? Wishes to be kept vegetative as long as possible? Highly doubtful. 4:1 odds a lefty like her has a DNR (lack of suffering being considered more sacred than life itself.)

Are living wills written in stone? No. Families can challenge them in court, and families of means can go judge/venue shopping beforehand. But what would it say if the public knew Nancy Pelosi had convinced the family to override the justice’s wishes, just to keep the seat warm with a comatose body?

Where is Ginsburg? No, really. This is going down the same damn path as Steve Paddock and the Vegas shooting. Will we ever see her again or hear of her fate? Has she become immortal, at least from a legal standpoint? Must we continue to accept these votes and opinions coming from the ether? Would Roberts even have the courage to investigate/ verify her whereabouts?

Post your best Ginsburg theories. I say she’s on a feeding tube somewhere in flyover country so a judge friendly to Pelosi could overrule her own living will. 50% chance there will be no more articles about her condition for the rest of 2019.

The bit about nooses reminds me of an episode of “American Gods” which was entirely invented for the show (rather than found in the book) and takes place in a Virginia town where people basically worship guns, represented by the god Vulcan, who says outside his house is “an old hanging tree” where the black protagonist briefly sees a noose. Michael Green, who Steve earlier highlighted for his tweet on the Covington students, was co-showrunner on that first season. In fairness to him, I should note that some of his other work is enjoyable, but that was an unusually clunky episode which reeked of the broadest reaction to the Trump era (the episode opens with ammunition from Vulcan’s ammo factory used to shoot Mexican immigrants, including Jesus, by overtly Christian paramilitary men on the border). I don’t think the noose would have occurred to Neil Gaiman in 2001, although part of that would have been not living in America as long.

I believe the United States should run on its own oil, gas, hydro, coal, and nuclear resources and leave the Middle East alone, not interfering with what happens there. They’ll sort it out one way or another.

We could make gasoline and diesel fuel from coal by Fischer-Tropsch and sequester the pollutants, including thorium, and build high temperature gas cooled thorium reactors. (Wind and solar are fucking nonsense for main line power and we all know it.) Coal could be mined robotically. It would create tens of thousands of jobs. And the cost would be lower once you figure out how much oil is subsidized via “defense” spending to keep the Middle East in line.

In 2010 or so, for some reason, angry black women started pulling in his driveway and banging on his door. They accused him of being RACIST RACIST RACIST. It happened so many times he finally gave in. and took the hangin guy down. He has two mixed grandkids, who he loves very much, but could not figure out where those folks were coming from. To him it was innocent fun. I think it had alot to do with him packing up and moving.

The article that you linked to states that the average IQ for a cop is 104. When I looked up some more articles on the case, it appears that 104 is the national average, so it does look like 95 is too low. My guess is that it would probably be even higher in a city like Charlottesville, since affluent communities typically pay more and have better working conditions, so the hiring process is more competitive.

I think (going from memory) that The Bell Curve cited a study showing that higher IQ police officers had fewer accidents, fewer disciplinary actions, and in general better job performance that their lower IQ peers. Since police officers will sometimes need to make split second decisions in high stress situations on matters of life or death, it is easy to see where a higher IQ would be a plus.

I think refusing to hire the guy in New London because his IQ was too high was definitely a mistake. On the other hand, he was trying to join the police force when he was 49 years old. That probably isn’t the best age to take up police work.

Well, the white guys were getting lynched because they tried to help the black guy who was getting lynched.

They all ended up playing “Man Of Constant Sorrow” to a bunch of rednecks, and winning them over to miscegenation.

I vaguely remember when that song got really popular among hipster-adjacent people for a summer or so after that movie came out.

What’s REALLY interesting about this scene, though, is the dancing that was done by the Soggy Bottom Boys during that song and the “In The Jailhouse Now” song that came before.

During the time this movie was set, there were “hillbilly” groups, that were actually made of non-hillbillies, doing the kind of stylized dances you see in this scene, to demonstrate to New Yorkers what hillbillies did back at home.

These exact types of performances were what inspired Al Capp (by which, I of course mean (((Al Capp)))) to create Lil’ Abner.

Essentially, it was a type of white minstrelsy. And the film copied it pretty clearly, right down to the fake beards that the performers would wear. Which is prety interesting, because these sort of “hillbilly-face” performances aren’t exactly widely known about.

The Coen brothers have a lot more depth than even most of their fans know about.

  106. While it’s plausible that Smollett had a sexual encounter go wrong (or right?), consider the following:

    1. How did he manage to find the one place in Chicago’s overpriced, Streeterville neighborhood with no video camera for 60 seconds?;
    2. What a concidence that a man who, less than two years ago, filmed a music video (“F.U.W.”) showing an actor/model and a swinging noose (58-60 seconds in), and then shows up, with a noose around his neck!;
    3. As Lot noted, only days earlier, someone had sent a hate note, accompanied by white powder, to Empire’s Chicago set;
    4. Smollett was days away from giving a concert, for which ticket sales were sluggish. As soon as he got publicity for his hoax, tickets sold out; and
    5. His sandwich and cellphone both survived.

Black supremacists will say that “white supremacists” (i.e., anyone to the right to Obama) hang nooses on or near blacks to terrorize them all the time. I say, Not in this world. But blacks do, all the time.

Steve devoted a January 30th blog
    https://www.unz.com/isteve/jussie-smolletts-trump-derangement-syndrome/

to said video, and posted a still of Smollett and the noose. I doubt he’s the only one to post said image, but Google Images’ thought police have scrubbed the image (look under Jussie Smollett noose).

That’s not on Smollett, but is indicative of how important it is on the Left to support black hate hoaxes.

    https://thegrio.com/2019/02/01/jussie-smollett-noose-video-police-have-footage-of-empire-actor-with-rope-around-his-neck-after-brutal/

At a Grio item promoting the hoax, not one of the six comments the censors permitted through supported the hoax. Two believed Smollett had arranged for a sexual assignation (“booty call”), to meet at Subway’s, but that the prostitute and an accomplice had set him up to rob him for drug money, and that’s why Smollett refused to turn his cellphone over to the cops. Another commenter noted he did not originally claim the attackers had shouted “Maga country!,” but added that later.

The only question remaining for me is, Spontaneous or planned?

It’s not a momentous matter to me. The video shows that he already had a hoax pre-disposition. Thus, he was a hoax waiting to happen. Whether he planned it to juice ticket sales, or got beat up and decided, ‘This time is as good as any,’ isn’t terribly important, but the preponderance of evidence suggests to me that it was planned. Also, note that black hoaxers, whether premeditated or making them up as they go, can’t keep their lies straight. Few people can. It’s a crime, either way.

I’m thinking there were proctor notes and video from the test day that raised red flags. I’m also wondering about internal test cues: if one starts coughing up wrong answers at question 20, but then starts coming back strong with a string of hits at question 30, that would key to cheating.

Glancing at FSU requirements, she could have been accepted with her 900 score; raising it to 1000 would probably been good enough depending on the rest of her app., and she should have made that score with all the hard work she claims to have done in prep. It looks like her prep was to sit near a smart looking person and copy; she should have picked someone more modest; an 1100 score might not have raised enough red flags for a challenge: the optics are not good on challenging a below average score. But that is another gloomy reminder that the clumsy cheaters get caught and the crafty cheaters are more likely to get away with it.

125 IQ cops would take up jobs for certain 95-104 IQ cops, and we can’t have that. But where does that leave the 125 IQ dudes?

A working assumption with affirmative action is that White guys and Asians at all levels will create a job and expand the economy to make up for what they lose to NAMs; this is a corollary to the belief that economic resources are limitless, and that we can accommodate any number of people under society’s umbrella.

But resources are finite, and harder to gather, in many instances, as use increases; but the discussion of this is rather truncated in today’s world.

I’m hoping that the CPD can nail it down as a false report in a sufficiently concrete way the Jussie gets charged with something and he takes down the whole Smollett clan, brothers, sisters, and mom, tainting them all for life. That distinctive surname could end up being a big liability. Expect some name changes to African sounding names.

That Ziegler article hints at something really sordid, but he won’t say what.

At any rate, one of the Chicago television reporters, mentioned by Ziegler, on his Twitter account said that the CPD have narrowed down the maker for the cord, possibly with the help of the FBI, because one of the reporters said the FBI is not only investigating the letter, but also supplying technical assistance for the noose incident. The CPD has identified all local vendors for the cord product, and is looking at in-store and neighborhood video for the retailers of the cord to try to determine who bought it. Man, very clever investigation, but man, what a lot of work and money! The only way this could pay off is if Smollett or someone currently known, like his music manager, bought it, I’d think. I can’t imagine them identifying an unknown cord perchaser from crummy surveillance video … but maybe they’ll release it to the public as a “person on interest” thing. Drag the investigation for months, tightening the noose, so to speak, until they publicly declare it a hoax.

I just looked back at the news archives, because I wondered what happened to the rally to support Smollett. It turns out that they had 60 people attend it in New York on February 1. I wonder how accurate the count is — those crowd estimates can be pretty hard to nail down. I wonder if they had a helicopter photo to aid in the count. At any rate, the low turnout suggests that the whole thing was starting to stink even back then.

I agree, smarter cops would be better all around. I don’t think the New London police department was being entirely honest about why they had an upper cutoff. I suspect it was there to keep affirmative action working without having lower standards for different groups of people.

I can’t really think of many professions that set an upper limit on how smart you can be to do the job. The military doesn’t do it, the remaining labor unions don’t do it, colleges don’t do it. Hopefully the idea doesn’t catch on.

A lot of wealthier municipalities actually require Bachelor’s Degrees for their cops (I know, a Bachelor’s hardly guarantees intelligence, but as a screen its likely to lead to higher average IQ’s) and in some specific cases of which I’m aware, they also have applicants take pysch screens.

Their logic is smarter cops have fewer accidents (thus fewer payouts and lawsuits) and if the screens successfully weed out guys applying to be cops so they can finally beat up some people, it’ll lead to fewer shakedowns and other lawsuits.

My money is on Brandon Z. Linda Gottfredson in Why g Matters: The Complexity of Everyday Life includes a table from the Wonderlic company that puts “Police, Patrol Officer” at a mean IQ of 102, with the 25th and 75th percentiles at 94 and 110, respectively. This means that 25 percent were above 110.

Some of us went to high school before vocational counseling was tabooed and it turned into the go-to-college-at-all-costs-rah-rah brigade. A vocational counseler was a psychologist who administered IQ tests to kids, although that was obfuscated by the term vocational aptitude test. Considering that IQ tests have several components, it was easy for kids to think they were testing for different skills and not just smartness. “They had something about mentally rotating pipes: That must have been the plumbing aptitude part!”

The vocational counselor would know your IQ and grades, the sort of courses and electives you took, and through a short interview the professions of your siblings, parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and so on, as well as your hobbies and interests and basic personality. Balancing all this information she would look at the IQ-range-by-profession tables that vocational psychometricians had made in the 1950s and find three or so where you fit by intelligence, interest, personality, and family tradition.

Ideally you wouldn’t go into a profession where you would be too smart and get bored, nor into one where you would always feel dumb. But if your family had a tradtion of law enforcement, even if you were outlier smart she would know that there were niches for smart people there and room at the top for smart people with leadership personaliaties to advance to lieutenants and captains and deputy chiefs, so a very smart, outgoing kid with police family might get police as an option. And not everyone was pushed into college.

Vocational counseling was one of the things we no long have from the days when high school taught you the three R’s, plus took care to help you through adolescence and into adulthood, which was really their main task, I think, more than education. I remember things like coed dances during gym class where the sexes could break through initial inhibitions, whether they liked it or not, because you were forced to ask someone to dance. And we had open-showers-mandatory gym classes where you got over the hump that bodies are different, and so what. There were extracurricular clubs you were pushed into by teachers where you learned some social graces, even if you didn’t really want to. There were class presentations where you got some public speaking experience, traumatic for some at first, but appreciated by all at the end. In retrospect it seems so civilized, considerate, and compassionate, and I have great respect for my old teachers and adminstrators.

Last week, The Post traced Smollett’s likely route to the underpass from a 24-hour Subway sandwich shop where he bought a tuna sandwich and a salad.

Near the foot of a stairwell to the Loews, The Post found an empty hot sauce bottle that was partially filled with a clear liquid that smelled like bleach.
