From the Washington Post:

Her #OscarsSoWhite campaign changed how Hollywood deals with race. Now she’s taking on HBO.

By Sonia Rao August 17, 2017

When April Reign joined Twitter back in 2010, she was met with the familiar frustration of a taken username. But instead of tacking random numbers onto the end, she opted for a simple play on words: @ReignOfApril.

“I decided I was royalty,” she said.

Reign has lived up to her commanding name. Since she cheekily tweeted “#OscarsSoWhite they asked to touch my hair” in response to an all-white slate of Academy Award acting nominees in 2015, Reign, 47, has been at the epicenter of the online conversation about representation in Hollywood. Her viral hashtag transformed the way we talk about entertainment, and she’s now using another to try to take down the “Game of Thrones” creators’ next TV show…

As iSteve commenter Giant Duck pointed out to me today, the much-profiled “April Reign” appears to be merely the reinvention of disgraced Obama Administration lawyer April Sands, who was suspended from the federal government and from the bar for violating the Hatch Act against federal officials using their office to engage in partisan politics. (Sands was an ex-underling of Lois Lerner.)

April Reign/Sands is evidently such a mastermind at identity shifting that she kept her same Twitter handle @ReignOfApril all the way from 2010 when she was April Sands to today when she is April Reign, even though she was featured by Fox News and the Daily Mail in 2014 for using her @ReignOfApril Twitter account for partisan purposes when she was supposed to be working for the public enforcing our election laws.

From PowerLine Blog in 2014:

QUEEN APRIL APPROXIMATELY

by Scott Johnson

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee Chairman Jim Jordan today wrote the Federal Election Commission regarding another mysterious hard drive crash, this one involving FEC attorney April Sands. Sands tweeted under the fitting handle ReignOfApril. The voluble Ms. Sands has admitted to disparaging Republicans and campaigning for President Obama in violation of the Hatch Act.

And here’s an old screengrab of April Sands and her @ReignOfApril handle:

Screenshot 2018-03-07 20.46.56

But then after April Sands was suspended from federal work and from lawyering, she evidently kept using her same Twitter handle to launch her lucrative new career demanding more blacks in movies. Here’s her epochal Tweet that launched a thousand thinkpieces about white privilege in Hollywood:

Screenshot 2018-03-07 20.24.07

Lots more documentation of this hilariously dumb story here. This is a pretty interesting test case of what is and isn’t considered Fake News and Election Meddling, among much else.

  1. It seems to me that diversity in the US these days is basically code for more women and blacks, as the darling reception of both Wonder Woman and Black Panther showed. From before the Oscars this past year…

    https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/27/hollywood-film-latinos-representation-diversity-oscars

The Oscar nominations for black and female film-makers has Hollywood beaming – but a new hashtag has also been born: #LatinosLeftOut

Hollywood was tingling with relief and pride. Instead of being castigated for ignoring black actors and harassing female ones, the film industry basked in praise for diversity and inclusion.

This week’s Oscar nominations rewarded black and female film-makers and themes of social justice, continuing an awards season trend towards addressing the #OscarsSoWhite and #MeToo controversies.

IIRC, the Grammys were also declared diverse recently because a number of black and female artists won right? Of course I’ve uh long been pointing out how comically unnuanced the binary black and white nature of racial discourse in this country is, especially when it comes to basically pretending that people of Asian descent don’t exist.

Since women and blacks have become the darlings of the mainstream today, (hey let’s not forget that tomorrow is International Women’s Day), and since recent superhero movies have extolled societies comprised of only blacks and women, I sometimes wonder uh what America would be like if in fact women and blacks were the only people around. Our good friend Whiskey probably has some thoughts on how such a country might operate…

I sent this to the tip address of a major entertainment news publisher that is (1) very progressive and (2) very in love with breaking gossipy Hollywood stories. I’m chuckling at the cognitive dissonance that will result. They will really want to go with it but will be afraid that they will be accused of … whatever if they do go with it. I think that they may try to launder the story through a “non-Nazi” third party before using it. Or make it into a story about Nazis attacking someone.

I’m awaiting the Taki’s Magazine version of this “dumb story.” Between Unz, VDare, and Taki, Steve can get some pretty good SEO going.

There is a constant theme about hair-touching and black women. Look it up. There are dozens upon dozens of articles and memes insisting that white people are constantly wanting to touch, or just reaching out and touching, Black women’s hair.

In reality I’m quite sure this never happens. I think what it bespeaks, given how much time and money Black women spend on their hair, is a wish on their part that the world were a fraction as interested in their hair as they are.
    , @Anonymous
It's an online negro meme: blonde women are jealous of afros.

"they asked to touch my hair"

This is a "microaggression." Microaggressions are what white people call "pet peeves." But they differ in one respect: They lower your IQ by 15 points for 72 hours (but are not cumulative). It's not known exactly what it is in African American physiology that causes this, but experts in critical race theory are investigating, and a Nobel Prize is certain to come to the scholar who figures it out. It's probably some kind of enzyme. Or maybe it's dark matter sensitivity.

Other microaggressions are when a store security person looks at you. There are many of these, and they are so pervasive that African Americans are kept in a near constant state of cognitive suppression. Occasionally an African American will go camping for a week where there aren't any white people and will notice his brain working much better after the first three days, up until the end of the trip. A black person in this elevated state was the inventor of the "spork." Thank god he drew an annotated diagram of it during the trip, or else the invention would have been lost when the trip ended and he met a white forest ranger who asked to touch his hair.
    , @FPD72
In the summer of 2000, my daughter did a six week long mission internship in Paupa New Guinea. Almost all of the time was spent in very remote areas. She had long blonde hair and everywhere she went almost all of the children and many of the adults wanted to touch her hair.

I don’t know whether it was connected to her hair, but the male leaders in her group received several offers to sell her for marriage. It had been a good coffee crop and the farmers were able to make purchase offers they thought were very generous.

Bottom line: the hair touching thing is a two way street.

By seeing race in everything, and lacking any international awareness whatsoever, US blacks are really setting themselves up for a fall.

    i) Blacks complain about no racial diversity in tech, even though Asians are 40% of tech. Even whites are underrepresented in tech. By glossing over Asians as 'not having ever been oppressed', US blacks are courting disaster. Asians are very good at the long game.
ii) Asians and Hispanics are nowhere to be seen at the Oscars OR Grammys. Yet they don't complain the way blacks do.
iii) China, which Hollywood is increasingly under the thumb of, isn't going to be too keen on gratuitous insertion of blacks in films. Any day now, they are going to demand more Chinese-American actors in Hollywood films (I am surprised this hasn't happened already), and a lot fewer blacks except where the character has to be black. When they do something stupid like make James Bond or Superman or Zorro black, this will be a huge mistake.

By any measure, US blacks are going to get an unpleasant correction in the relatively near future.

I have absolutely no doubt that it does happen. In our travels in Spain and Italy in the late 1970s my then girlfriend (now wife) fairly regularly had women touch her hair at bus stops, awaiting pedestrian lights etc, so they could examine her long blonde strands and check her roots for signs of colouring. And they didn’t ask first.

Further, the blond guy I attended a course with in Northern Spain in summer 1977 was much luckier than me with the local lovelies despite being dumb, dull and ugly. But I’m not bitter.

One thing to remember: The Hatch Act is one of those laws where a lot of people think, Why is that even a crime? It’s the sort of case where a prosecuting attorney will try to avoid a jury trial, because jurors just don’t perceive this as bad on an instinctive level. This is called malum prohibitum, as contrasted with malum in se.

So it’s easy to understand how the mostly left-wing media, even if aware of this situation, would not think it’s a big deal, more of a traffic violation level thing. So the involvement of a federal prosecutor, allegations of destruction of evidence, and loss of a legal license are vital points to be made to stress the seriousness of it.

Yes, it is, and he is right about it.

At the same time, Ron Unz gets mad when someone agrees with him about this, because he thinks his stealth goal of sowing confusion and dissent among 70-IQ WNs will be exposed. In reality, they are not smart enough to see his master plan (which I agree with) even if it is openly described, so his master plan is not under threat.

It is a privilege to see a sophisticated Divide and Conquer Jew singlehandedly tie up hundreds if not thousands of WN losers at once.

Step 1 : Make a website that WNs use (since they can never build anything on their own). Let any and all anti-Semitic slurs stand on the website to make WNs complacent.
Step 2 : Recruit the 2-3 intelligent authors that WNs read (Sailer, Derbyshire, etc.).
Step 3 : After a few years, start pushing for normalization of Hispanics (even if illegal).
Step 4 : Deploy someone like Fred Reed to generate even more confusion.

It works...and it is a lesson in asymmetrical attrition warfare.

China, which Hollywood is increasingly under the thumb of, isn’t going to be too keen on gratuitous insertion of blacks in films. Any day now, they are going to demand more Chinese-American actors in Hollywood films (I am surprised this hasn’t happened already), and a lot fewer blacks except where the character has to be black. When they do something stupid like make James Bond or Superman or Zorro black, this will be a huge mistake.

My general impression is that Chinese people are fine with seeing white, black, and Hispanic actors in Hollywood movies. There's a homegrown market for Chinese films with Chinese actors and actresses.

Asians and Hispanics are nowhere to be seen at the Oscars OR Grammys. Yet they don’t complain the way blacks do.

Isn't the Ron Unz thesis that uh whites, Asians, and Hispanics get along fine for the most part and that blacks are kinda the real problem?

Isn’t the Ron Unz thesis that uh whites, Asians, and Hispanics get along fine for the most part and that blacks are kinda the real problem?

Steve's readers are relatively mainstream as far as the alt-right crowd goes. I've dabbled briefly in sites like Amren, Stormfront, and also Dennis Mangan's old blog. The quality of the commentary on those sites is noticeably worse.

As an interesting aside, one of my memories of uh Mangan's old blog was Ron engaging in epic 200+ comment threads (epic compared to the average comment count on Mangan's blog back in those days) with Mangan's readers regarding the reality of Hispanic American crime rates. I've always wondered what Reed's deal was since first stumbling across him a while ago. I've gone back and forth on whether he is a good guy and sincere, or just another shitbird. I still don't know. Maybe that's the way Reed wants it.

Regarding his attitude to Jews, this comment (taken from here) is interesting:

"I have known lots of Jews. I have dated them, gotten drunk with them, shared underage gook hookers with them, insider traded with them, informed on white supremacists to them. I liked most of them. Like I said, them checks clear every damn time."

In that same essay, he also wrote:

"Just cuz I earn my livelihood play-acting at being the country cracker who speaks sly Truth to omniscient Power – Sut Lovingood in a Members-Only jacket – don’t mean I don’t look both ways before crossing Jew Street."

So what's Reed's deal? And what could be Ron Unz' purpose in publishing him other than to give him a wider audience because why not?

Using my normal distribution calculator the percentage with IQs below 70:

mean 100 sd 15: 2.2 percent of whites

mean 85 sd 12: 10.6 percent of blacks

mean 85 sd 15: 15.9 percent if you raise the sd

Mean 90.5 sd 14: 7.2 percent with Nisbettian numbers

So one in 45 whites, one in 6 to one in 15 or so for blacks, most likely one in 10.

Oh sure, it happens to people with blonde hair, especially in Asian or African countries.

The point is that nobody is interested in touching black people's hair.

A few years ago a black woman conducted a social experiment in Union Square. She and two other black women (with different hair types) stood with signs saying "Yes: you can touch our hair." Only a few people took them up on it, and they were all other black women.

I collect little examples like this. The movie/book "Dear White People" from a few years ago had a cover illustration of a white hand brushing through an Afro.

The funny thing is that many black women--the more luxuriously coiffed especially--aren't even wearing their own hair. They have weaves or extensions of the hair of other women attached to their heads.

If you spent 8 hours in a chair having your hair burned, pressed, knotted, etc., at significant cost, you might also convince yourself that everyone wants to play it.
    , @BB753
It's a fact that non-Black people are curious about the texture of frizzy African hair. Maybe that's the issue.
    , @J.Ross
    >it happens
    >with blonde hair, in areas where people do not normally or often grow blonde hair
I've heard of and seen East Asians touching blonde hair -- on babies -- after asking politely first, and not because they're wierded out but because they think it's pretty and lucky. I have never seen a white person who wanted to touch a black person, especially not just to see what their hair felt like. It's completely unbelievable and it gets less believable the more they insist.

Looks like we're suffering from context deficit.

Steve, I do believe you have once again exposed the double standard between liberals and conservatives, blacks and whites.

This total nobody April violated the Hatch Act and, as, a result was suspended from the bar and her position in the government.

Kellyanne Conway violated the Hatch Act and, as a result, shall be heading into work bright and early tomorrow morning, as she will for the foreseeable future.

    You left out that

    1) There has been no conviction yet,

    2) Conway specifically declined to endorse any candidate, which April Sands/Reign did do,

    3) Conway did not solicit donations, which April did do,

    4) Conway did not destroy evidence, which April did do,

    5) It is only two days since the accusation against Conway were made, but it has been six years since April’s violations. The highly ideological witch-hunt which passes for enforcement in DC may yet convict Conway, but they won’t bother April.

How much did this total nobody FEC attorney earn? The searchable database of Federal employee compensation only goes back to FY 2015, so I can’t say.

April’s former boss, total nobody Lois Lerner, apparently had a salary of $177,000, and her pension will pay out at $102,600.

Between the toxic chemicals in straightener, to the weaves, to the competition for men (many of whom are locked away in prison), one almost feels sympathy.

It seems to me that diversity in the US these days is basically code for more women and blacks, as the darling reception of both Wonder Woman and Black Panther showed. From before the Oscars this past year...

    https://www.theguardian.com/film/2018/jan/27/hollywood-film-latinos-representation-diversity-oscars

Of course I've uh long been pointing out how comically unnuanced the binary black and white nature of racial discourse in this country is, especially when it comes to basically pretending that people of Asian descent don't exist.

Since women and blacks have become the darlings of the mainstream today, (hey let's not forget that tomorrow is International Women's Day), and since recent superhero movies have extolled societies comprised of only blacks and women, I sometimes wonder uh what America would be like if in fact women and blacks were the only people around. Our good friend Whiskey probably has some thoughts on how such a country might operate...

“It seems to me that diversity in the US these days is basically code for more women and blacks…”

Can we get you on Mastermind, Sybil?

I have absolutely no doubt that it does happen. In our travels in Spain and Italy in the late 1970s my then girlfriend (now wife) fairly regularly had women touch her hair at bus stops, awaiting pedestrian lights etc, so they could examine her long blonde strands and check her roots for signs of colouring. And they didn’t ask first.

Further, the blond guy I attended a course with in Northern Spain in summer 1977 was much luckier than me with the local lovelies despite being dumb, dull and ugly. But I’m not bitter.

Oh sure, it happens to people with blonde hair, especially in Asian or African countries.

The point is that nobody is interested in touching black people’s hair.

A few years ago a black woman conducted a social experiment in Union Square. She and two other black women (with different hair types) stood with signs saying “Yes: you can touch our hair.” Only a few people took them up on it, and they were all other black women.

I collect little examples like this. The movie/book “Dear White People” from a few years ago had a cover illustration of a white hand brushing through an Afro.

The funny thing is that many black women–the more luxuriously coiffed especially–aren’t even wearing their own hair. They have weaves or extensions of the hair of other women attached to their heads.

If you spent 8 hours in a chair having your hair burned, pressed, knotted, etc., at significant cost, you might also convince yourself that everyone wants to play it.

In all fairness though, this meme that you always uh throw out about IQ 70 white nationalists is a bit of an exaggeration no? I mean having an IQ of 70 literally means that you’re retarded and have Down Syndrome.

If that is literally retarded, then 10 percent of blacks are literally retarded, and special ed classes are severely underpopulated.

The social security administration uses an iq range of 71-84 as the definition of “borderline intellectual functioning”. If you can also show an inability to consistently perform repetitive tasks you qualify for disability payments.

Isn’t the Ron Unz thesis that uh whites, Asians, and Hispanics get along fine for the most part and that blacks are kinda the real problem?

At the same time, Ron Unz gets mad when someone agrees with him about this, because he thinks his stealth goal of sowing confusion and dissent among 70-IQ WNs will be exposed.

Whites with an IQ of 70 are bagging groceries at the supermarket and likely their overriding interest is college football, not political discusssions on the internet. You might have known that if you weren’t essentially a retard yourself.

I sent this to the tip address of a major entertainment news publisher that is (1) very progressive and (2) very in love with breaking gossipy Hollywood stories. I'm chuckling at the cognitive dissonance that will result. They will really want to go with it but will be afraid that they will be accused of ... whatever if they do go with it. I think that they may try to launder the story through a "non-Nazi" third party before using it. Or make it into a story about Nazis attacking someone.

I'm awaiting the Taki's Magazine version of this "dumb story." Between Unz, VDare, and Taki, Steve can get some pretty good SEO going.

I used to dress up with a tie and everything for my sales job. I had some black guys freak out when I would talk to them because they thought I was the manager coming to make sure they didn’t steal anything.

Check out Chris Rock's "Good Hair" documentary for a really great look at the lengths black women go to get "good" hair. It's crazy how much it costs...it's also crazy how much Indian hair is imported. Between the toxic chemicals in straightener, to the weaves, to the competition for men (many of whom are locked away in prison), one almost feels sympathy.

Not just hair, but have you seen the fingernails on some of these black babes? I was in an elevator yesterday and two black women got on. Blue collar, maybe worked at the hotel. One of them pushed the button for the first floor and nothing happened because her fingernails were so long that she could not touch the button with her finger tip. Wild.

Isn’t the Ron Unz thesis that uh whites, Asians, and Hispanics get along fine for the most part and that blacks are kinda the real problem?

Step 4 : Deploy someone like Fred Reed to generate even more confusion.

I’ve always wondered what Reed’s deal was since first stumbling across him a while ago. I’ve gone back and forth on whether he is a good guy and sincere, or just another shitbird. I still don’t know. Maybe that’s the way Reed wants it.

Regarding his attitude to Jews, this comment (taken from here) is interesting:

“I have known lots of Jews. I have dated them, gotten drunk with them, shared underage gook hookers with them, insider traded with them, informed on white supremacists to them. I liked most of them. Like I said, them checks clear every damn time.”

In that same essay, he also wrote:

“Just cuz I earn my livelihood play-acting at being the country cracker who speaks sly Truth to omniscient Power – Sut Lovingood in a Members-Only jacket – don’t mean I don’t look both ways before crossing Jew Street.”

So what’s Reed’s deal? And what could be Ron Unz’ purpose in publishing him other than to give him a wider audience because why not?

Not the only one that really counted, "Shaft."

As soon as I hit “post” I remembered Shaft. But it is very strongly represented and is often a central plot point.

This white woman speaking Yoruba in a Nigerian market received a marriage offer 30 seconds after striking up a conversation with a man.

A black woman where I used to work told me that African men consider White women to be far more desirable than black women. Overheard at Home Depot in a black area: "Don't African men always have a girl friend on the side?" (One black woman to another.)

Why on earth did you allow your daughter to do that? PNG is one of the most violent places on earth.

“In reality I’m quite sure this never happens. ”

It doesn’t. The opposite happens. I can speak from experience, but who listens to me?

“is a wish on their part”

Google “white girl flow”. It ain’t “latina girl flow”, “Asian girl flow” – you get my point?

Whites with an IQ of 70 are bagging groceries at the supermarket and likely their overriding interest is college football, not political discusssions on the internet. You might have known that if you weren't essentially a retard yourself.

    Hey, moron.

WNs are a subset of the 70-IQ set. They are not the entirety of it.

If your own IQ were anything higher than 70, you would not be confused about this.

Plus, WNs are not merely low IQ, but grotesque in appearance and of poor character as well. Look in the mirror to see what I mean.

It's a fact that non-Black people are curious about the texture of frizzy African hair. Maybe that's the issue.

    I think you’re right.

A couple of times when I had a full head of hair and got my optimist summer “nearly into the wood” cut women colleagues would run their hands over my head. Of course it could’ve been due to my being an irresistibly handsome bastard, but I’m thinking the texture was the clincher. (Did I mention it was the Civil Service?)

  83. Here is a recent op/ed by April Reign in the Globe & Mail, which is the New York Times of Canada. Circulation of around 2,000,000. Impossible for most people to get such a platform for their views. It seems like people are entitled to know her background, in order to put her prescriptions for what “must” happen in the entertainment industry and society in general into perspective. Op/eds are largely informed by the fallacy of expertise. So at least knowing the “expert” is entry-level due diligence.

A lot of NWLs in problem glasses and soy-boys displaying their "soylent grins" in that picture. Looking at the website for "Fractured Atlas", I am amazed at a a society that generates so much surplus capital (or at least borrows or manufactures it) that it is possible for entities like that to exist - organizations busily engaged in.............................nothing of any value at all.

Now I know what problem glasses are. But what does NWL mean? The Urban Dictionary doesn’t list it.

But I’m not bitter.

    >it happens
    >with blonde hair, in areas where people do not normally or often grow blonde hair
I’ve heard of and seen East Asians touching blonde hair — on babies — after asking politely first, and not because they’re wierded out but because they think it’s pretty and lucky. I have never seen a white person who wanted to touch a black person, especially not just to see what their hair felt like. It’s completely unbelievable and it gets less believable the more they insist.
