Green: GOP's 2016 Problem? Hillary's White

Lloyd Green points out in The Daily Beast that Hillary’s big advantage in 2016 might be that she is white.

GOP’s Biggest 2016 Problem: Clinton’s Numbers Among White Voters

Hillary Clinton’s strength among white voters is the key to 2016—and it spells nearly certain defeat and disaster for Republicans.

Culture will likely shape the 2016 presidential elections, and this is bad news for the Republican Party. Recent polls show Hillary Clinton running well among white voters overall, showing real strength among white non-evangelical Protestants, and running competitively among white Catholics. Trailing only among evangelicals, Clinton is poised to move beyond the upstairs-downstairs coalition that brought Barack Obama to the White House, and that continues to characterize his policies and presidency to this day.

On multiple levels Clinton is not Obama, and GOP swipes at Clinton over her age and health appear to have gained less traction among voters than digs leveled at the President over his birth certificate and religion. Instead of faltering, Clinton is building upon her bid for the 2008 Democratic nomination, when she stitched together wins in industrial and large states by winning a majority of white voters.

Take Pennsylvania, which Clinton loyalist and talking head James Carville once described as “Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between.” Its Democrats definitively preferred Clinton over Obama in the state’s 2008 presidential primaries. Six years ago, Clinton beat Obama by nine points, and now she leads prospective 2016 Republican contenders Rand Paul, Paul Ryan, Jeb Bush, and Mike Huckabee among Pennsylvania’s white voters in general, and surprisingly among white voters without college degrees. If the GOP cannot capture working-class votes outside of the South, it will again face defeat.

  1. This is probably true. I remember 2000 when Mrs. Clinton ran for the Senate many people saying she could never be President because she was seen as too liberal/wacky.
After exotic Obama she seems downright normal. It’s all a matter of perspective.
Of course the GOP could run a campaign opposing mass immigration and affirmative action to expose Hillary as an anti-white phoney and get white voters to the polls.
Just kidding! May as well run Mitt again with an anti American worker pro banker/pro Wall St/pro globalist campaign that fattens the wallets of Republican consultants and ‘strategists’.

And if they don’t address trade and immigration, they never will. But they are so beholden to big biz and the chamber of commerce, they cannot.

Unfortunately the GOP will continue to push the five I’s: Immigration, Intervention, Income taxes, International (free) trade & Israel. Unfortunately those issues don’t matter or help the average white voter.

  3. This isn’t so bad. Frankly I’m not sure the GOP would field a candidate that is demonstratively different than Clinton. Jeb Bush is probably to the left of her on immigration.

With her improved performance among Whites she may not feel the need to excessively pander to minorities.

I could live with a Clinton presidency.

With this video around, Steve, don't worry. The GOP candidate or his surrogates will find a way to keep this "I ain't noways tired" in the air for a while.

Hilary isn't the charming panderer her husband was. (I say "was" because Bill is looking old and tired, and his physical state now fits the "dirty old man" rather than the "charming, boyish rogue" image.")

True countenance, but really, who else do the Dems have? Steve talks about Julian Castro sometimes but has the Democratic brass seriously mentioned another candidate? We’re a ways from Nov. 2016 but it seems everyone assumes it will be Hillary.

As for this notion that Hillary will win a lot of white voters because she’s white: not so fast. True the GOP could certainly have trouble in their current corporate -whore incarnation but the Dems ran white guys for Prez from 1968-2004 and while a couple got elected none of them carried the majority of the white vote.

Seriously, it sounds a bit like the Gladwellian effect or rather akin to the ol’ fairy tale Puss’n Boots. In that tale, the cat acted as PR for a poor commoner by presenting him as a Marquis. Wherever the cat travelled, he announced in the various lands that the Marquis was soon to be a’comin’ etc. The point was a psychological one: The “inevitability” of Hillary. Much as it was the “inevitability” of Mitt in ’12. (or the “inevitability” of Hillary in ’08). Of course, when reality sets in….oftentimes that’s an entirely different matter.

Yessir, they’ve got their handlers and PR flacks working overtime already in various outlets to prime the pump of “inevitability.”

    —————————
Actually the “five I’s” can work very nicely to the benefit of the average white voter.

IMMIGRATION- Immigration is not only negative. Low wage Mexican laborers expand output, and furnish cheaper goods and services for those white voters, and based on some scholarly studies, said Mexicans contribute more in tax overall than they take out in public services. The surplus is pocketed by whites.

INTERVENTION- Here again, who says white voters are “suffering”? They benefit quite well from government programs- from military spending in the south, to sweetheart contracts set up with whit unions, to well entrenched well funded mostly white educational bureaucracies, to the army of white bureaucrats and miscellaneous processors of paper that administer said interventions In fact in states. Right wingers can’t seem to understand that their stream of railing propaganda against “the coloreds” misses the real story- the average white voter LIKES government largesse- they benefit in numerous ways. This is why white liberals keep cleaning up at the polls. They understand such things.

INCOME TAXES- Again, who says the average white voter is mired in a vale of suffering? White voters get the benefit of numerous tax breaks, including one of the most favorable for years- mortgage interest deduction. They also gain from other things- EIC, various deductions etc. Again, white liberals understand this better than assorted rightists.

INTERNATIONAL (FREE trade)- Again, lower prices for goods and services are a boon to the average white voter- just ask Walmart, and its white shoppers, and just ask all those white buyers of foreign made or foreign company owned cars, or who enjoy electronic devices of foreign made parts origin. Free trade also boosts income in numerous other sectors of the economy- just ask all those white retailers who make a living from cheaper goods, sometimes better quality goods, of foreign origin. Actually the average white voter loves free trade. Right wingers still haven’t figured this out yet.

ISRAEL- The irony here is that the Zionist project called today’s “Israel” is a favorite project of CONSERVATIVE white voters. And white the US has been mired in the Middle East morass for decades, it has done so for its own reasons- such as securing cheap supplies of oil- a commodity beloved by white voters. Israel has been a liability at times, but also an asset- a handy proxy club against those pesky Arabs. Strategically the US has benefited numerous times because of Israel in the Middle East and that benefit translates into cheap fuel for the US white voter.

In short, the “five I’s” matter very much to the average white voter and he/she as directly benefited as a result.

“Actually the “five I’s” can work very nicely to the benefit of the average white voter”

Immigration: drives up cost of housing; depresses wages in blue- and white-collar jobs (STEM); puts stress on public goods and services; crime (MS13, anyone?); terrorism; dilutes whites’ political power and economic influence; undermines national unity; degrades the environment; etc ad infinitum.

Intervention: 75+% of soldiers dead in Iraq/Afghanistan have been white; wars paid for by debt that whites have to repay; legacy costs with veterans’ care; inspires more terrorism against us (and thus more security state erosion of civil liberties); wars are divisive and distract whites from uniting around a populist, pro-white political movement

Income Taxes: The point is not what middle-class people pay; rather, it’s what the rich (globalist, pro-open borders, pro-diversity) don’t pay. Cutting marginal rates on the Bloombergs, Adelsons, and Zuckerbergs drives up the national debt (and thus interest rates, and thus leaving our govt increasingly at the mercy of China) and leaves them with more wealth, and thus power, to screw us.

Trade: C’mon, no brainer. Most of the factory jobs lost to free trade have been held by whites. Furthermore, those jobs tended to be in middle American small towns and mid-sized cities where conservative cultural values were inculcated. Now the smart young from those areas have to move to big coastal metros where they get brainwashed in hate-whitey leftism.

Israel: Has been a disaster for America. Nixon’s airlift in 1973 brought on the oil embargo, and with that the mid-70s recession and inflation. Reagan in Lebanon (which was for Israel’s benefit) got marines killed, inspired Bin Laden that America was weak and defeatable, and fueled anti-American terrorism and hostage-taking. Pollard’s secrets undermined our preparedness against the Soviets, potentially catastrophic had we had a direct war. The Persian Gulf War (partially for Israel’s benefit) and its aftermath convinced Bin Laden to wage jihad on us; the Israelis also sold our Patriot missile tech to China (thanks for defending us, you dumb goyim!). Iraq — enough said. If we have war with Iran — Iraq x3, or 5, or 10.

  29. Another thing the Republicans are wrong on minimum wage because Washington state grew the most in the service jobs that are effective by higher minimum wage. If all employers stop hiring or cut hours for service jobs because of the 10 per hr why is it Washington state grew in the Hotel and restaurant jobs. Maybe a few small companies would go out of business probably Asian and Mexican restaurants who complain the most in the state or some restaurant cut back an 1 or 2 but the worker still ends up making a little more money. Hiliary can use the minimum wage against Republicans in the Midwest since as mention minimum wage scares don’t always work.

    3. The recession lasted from the 3d q of 1973 to the 1st q of 1975, which is to say the economy was already contracting antecedent to the Yom Kippur War and the oil embargo. Over the 7 quarters of the recession, the rate at which goods and services were being produced in the economy declined a grand total of 1.6%.

It means you think that launching a war against a non-threat like Iraq to the tune of $1.7 trillion is a pretty swell idea, and that deep, spiritual thoughts are expressed by saying things like ‘Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande, so ya know I think it would be swell to reward 10 million+ people with citizenship as thanks for breaking the law.’

2016 is 8 years after the beginning of our last recession. Recessions typically happen every 8-10 years. Inflation is climbing, and the Fed’s going to have to begin to taper soon. The racial makeup of the city was 66.9% White, 7.6% Black, 0.36% Native American, 16.9% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 3.86% from other races, and 3.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.7% of the population. Non-Hispanic Whites were 58.4% of the population,[15] down from 85.4% in 1990.[16]The 2010 United States Census[9] reported that Mission Viejo had a population of 93,305. The population density was 5,148.3 people per square mile (1,987.8/km²). The racial makeup of Mission Viejo was 74,493 (79.8%) White (68.9% Non-Hispanic White),[10] 1,210 (1.3%) African American, 379 (0.4%) Native American, 8,462 (9.1%) Asian, 153 (0.2%) Pacific Islander, 4,332 (4.6%) from other races, and 4,276 (4.6%) from two or more races. Plano is more minority than Mission Viejo. I don’t think that Texas will go Democratic in 2016 but more like 2024. Republicans screaming on top of their lungs on how much better Texas is doing than California have brought in a lot of minorities which makes the white vote less strong. Plano probably has more Mexicans and Asians that can vote in elections than Mission Viejo which usually is more immigrant.

In 2013, 49.7% of the more than 22 million employed Hispanics were immigrants, down sharply from the pre-recession peak of 56.1% in 2007. This development is mostly due to the waning inflow of Latino immigrants. Meanwhile, Latinos have more than made up for the jobs they lost during the recession, gaining 2.8 million jobs since 2009. Most of those jobs—2.3 million—went to U.S.-born Hispanics. But the seemingly strong recovery for Hispanics is more about demographics than good economic fortune as jobs growth and population growth are proceeding at similar rates.

From Pew Hispanic, it shows a Neo-Con like Bush is worst on the immirgation issue than a liberal like Obama. I don’t agree with Obama on the Latin America kids thing but under Neo-Con Bush which pushed for construction of houses it was worst.

  50. Well, what cracks me up is the Tea party going against import-export but still supporting those farm subsidies because the Great Kevin McCarthy is going against Import-export and tax breaks for Oil companies and folks with big bucks. They are so pro-small business but they support domestic tax breaks always for folks that make over 200,000 which lots of times worked for big corporations as managers and so forth. They just think tax cuts, tax cuts and less regulation makes you competitive if this is so then MS and Puetro Ricio would be the wealthy places since business usually pay less taxes and regulations for being in those places. In fact liberals shown that states like Texas burdened smaller business by having no state income tax but revenue from property taxes and sales taxes while larger companies get tax breaks packages. This is also why the Tea Party and the person here hates minimum wage because they are so pro-small business and allow lots of restaurant chains and fast foods to higher illegal immigrants like Mcdonalds by getting the minium wage low. If rising the mimum wage met more automation like burger flipping machines and kiosks and more automated dish washing and an oven that needs less cooks than about 2 million illegal immigrants might lose their jobs but Tea Party folks believe in the free market more than destroying thousands of low paying jobs where about 40 percent of the workforce is foreign born.

Fake Indian will run and win the nomination. Fake Indian is following the Obama playbook and is plugged into the same funding circles. Team Obama hates the Clintons so they are quietly helping Fake Indian. Given the state of affairs, the moonbat wing will rush to anyone that looks like a champion of their causes and that ain't Cankles.

If Hillary runs as the DP candidate, then she will win.

If Elizabeth Warren opposes Madam Clinton in the primaries, then the Madam may in fact be pushed aside, and Ms Warren may be the most powerful woman in the world.

If this happens in another 20 years, the the phrase "most powerful (wo)man" may not really have a clear meaning anymore, as America dives down further along in demography and economy.

This isn't so bad. Frankly I'm not sure the GOP would field a candidate that is demonstratively different than Clinton. Jeb Bush is probably to the left of her on immigration.

With her improved performance among Whites she may not feel the need to excessively pander to minorities.

I could live with a Clinton presidency.

Oh, she WILL pander to blacks, you can count on it or don’t you remember this?

With this video around, Steve, don’t worry. The GOP candidate or his surrogates will find a way to keep this “I ain’t noways tired” in the air for a while.

Hilary isn’t the charming panderer her husband was. (I say “was” because Bill is looking old and tired, and his physical state now fits the “dirty old man” rather than the “charming, boyish rogue” image.”)
