From the NYT Opinion page:

Something Not Rotten in Denmark

By Paul Krugman

Aug. 16, 2018

To be or not to be a socialist hellhole, that is the question. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.

Last weekend, Trish Regan, a Fox Business host, created a bit of an international incident by describing Denmark as an example of the horrors of socialism, right along with Venezuela. Denmark’s finance minister suggested that she visit his country and learn some facts….

For Denmark has indeed taken a very different path from the United States over the past few decades, veering (modestly) to the left where we’ve veered right. And it has done just fine.

American politics has been dominated by a crusade against big government; Denmark has embraced an expansive government role, with public spending more than half of G.D.P.

This would have been a cutting edge column in 1978. In 2018, it’s awfully ho-hum. In the 21st Century, Denmark has taken the lead in preserving its welfare state by resisting demographic inundation from the Third World.

Yet, I don’t see the text string “migra” anywhere in Dr. Krugman’s column, even though the Danish democracy’s fight against mass immigration has been its most noteworthy political feature since roughly 2001. If Denmark were in Central Europe, it would be constantly denounced in the NYT for leading the fight against Democracy. But because it’s a successful social democratic Nordic country, it’s cool.

  2. Works for me. I visited Denmark back in the 90s and loved it, social democracy and all. Thank God somebody up in those parts was smart enough to figure out you can’t have ethnic homogeneity/immigration and a social welfare state at the same time.

It’d be interesting to see how Denmark and Sweden diverge from each other culturally and politically in the next hundred years. They’re clearly on irrevocably different paths now.

  3. But because it’s a successful social democratic Nordic country, it’s cool.

Nah, I think it’s because none of these media blockheads could find it on a map. They’d just forgotton to harrass that place.

Oh, also, Krugman’s an economic idiot.

    2018 United States federal budget

    > Department of Defense: $574 billion
    > Department of Education: $68.2 billion
    > Department of Health and Human Services $65.1 billion
    > Department of Homeland Security $44.1 billion
    > Department of Housing and Urban Development $40.7 billion
    > Department of Veteran Affairs $78.9 billion (more than education)
    > State Department $27.1 billion

    > Total revenue $3.654 trillion (estimated)
    > Total expenditures $4.094 trillion (requested)
    > Deficit $804 billion (requested)
    > GDP $20.237 trillion

GDP is likely affected by serious double-counting, too.

Denmark, where I have been every year, is the tiniest country in what is officially called, Skandinavia. In the 1980′s-90′s everyone in Europe realized, that duh, Denmark is small, so they never forced them to take 100,000-200,000 people last year, from Africa/ME. Jesus, this makes me so mad!!! So many Zionist liars…this will not end well for the Zionists.

  6. (((Paul Krugman))) is married to a negress. This guy is incapable of understanding the West.

He babbles about Denmark and Venezuela. The best way to figure out the success of a nation is to look at IQ. Denmark has an average IQ of 103. Venezuela has an average IQ of 84. A country needs an average IQ of 90 to be successful. Then you look at the racial composition. Denmark is still mostly white. Venezuela has a 10% white population, the rest various kinds of non-whites. Voila!!! This is why socialism works in Denmark and not in Venezuela. Biology first, beliefs second.

There is no command economy in the Nordic countries. Yes, there are a few state run big ventures, but the Nordic economies are capitalist economies — plus a vast welfare state. Just like the USA. Krugman of all people, being an economist, should know that. The Danes have had it with Muslims maintaining a separate culture, laws and religion (while accepting welfare, of course). The Danish government now requires that immigrant children starting at age 1 must attend 25 hours per week of instruction in Danish language, culture and Christian traditions like Easter and Christmas. Parents who take children away to their home countries for extended periods face prison terms for these “re-education trips”.

One Danish Muslim woman, the child of Lebanese refugees, says “Maybe this is what they always thought, and now it’s out in the open,” she said. “Danish politics is just about Muslims now. They want us to get more assimilated or get out.”

Well, yes. We should also get this out in the open.

Danish democracy’s fight against mass immigration

A lot of damage was already done by the time the Danish People’s Party partly stemmed the tide, it looks like. The bleeding continues:

According to Statistics Denmark (govt.), the resident population in Denmark was:

    …as of Q32018 (July 1?):
    347,448 non-Western immigrants
    152,455 non-Western immigrant descendants
    = 499,903 non-Westerners

    …and as of Q42017 (Oct. 1?) was:
    342,686 non-Western immigrants
    148,280 non-Western immigrant descendants
    = 490,966 non-Westerners

Nine thousand non-Westerners added in nine months, or one thousand per month, or 30 new non-Westerners per day. A Dane family takes a two-week summer vacation abroad; upon their return, their country has added no net new Danes (on track for contraction when TFR and age cohorts even-out), but has added 400-500 new ‘non-Westerners,’ primarily Muslim.

Of the new non-Westerners these past few months, ~4,200 [47%] are new births to non-Western immigrants and ~4,800 [53%] are new non-Western immigrants, as per the government statistical agency. Births to non-Western immigrants are on track for 5,600 per year. Total births in Denmark for 2014-7 were 57,000-62,000/year, which means non-Western births in Denmark are today just under 10% of total.

Even with an even stricter immigration policy tightened to near-zero (instead of the current hundreds/month), without repatriation Denmark is set to end up 10-15% Muslim among its young cohort by mid-century, which is in line with the well-publicized Pew (under-)estimate of Denmark at 16% Muslim in 2050 under “high migration.”

  22. @Anonymous

Denmark is the only country in the Western world that has banned non-European immigration. This doesn’t get the attention it deserves.

This will no doubt come as a shock to the Danes.

There’s no doubt–at least from everything i’ve read–that the national mood there has become much more restrictive. But that’s not because Danes aren’t naturally (foolish) good thought thinkers. It’s because … experience.

Doing a cursory wikipedia check, it looks like there are about half a million non-westerners in Denmark which is around a tenth of the population. (And a few hundred thousand non-Danish whites.) And essentially all the population growth has come from immigration.

Denmark is essentially a nation that has wised up that there is a problem. It seems to have stopped it from getting worse *faster*–2nd derivative. It hasn’t even stopped it from getting worse–1st derivative. Much less turned it around and started sending foreigners home.

  23. @TheMediumIsTheMassage

Can they all just go instead?

Untill the “conversation” is about repatriation, we aren’t close to turning this around.

And you’re right, it’s very easy to make the “no welfare for immigrants” case. It writes itself. And once you make it, it should be pretty easy to get a whole lot of this garbage to get out with minimal incentive, as in Europe a good tranche of themm really are complete welfare parasites.

I don’t get the relevance of Denmark’s size

    Not size alone, but size+ethnocultural-cohesion.

I believe that until the 1980s, Denmark was of very-near-100% Germanic-Scandinavian-Lutheran ethnocultural stock. The early waves of damage were apparently done in the 1990s under left-wing rule, then a reaction occurred in the 2000s as conservatives and many centrists defected to a soft-ethnonationalist party (the same has now occurred, since late 2015, in Germany [finally...], with AfD).

In other words, jimbones’ point is that Denmark’s welfare-state success is running on the fumes of its pre-Muslim-immigration (pre-1990s) ethnocultural cohesion. A very good point, one that Paul Krugman will unlikely ever put in print for ideological reasons. Denmark now appears to be saddled with a permanent (so they will tell us), Minneapolis-Somali-style non-Western burden-population, and the generous welfare-state model will obviously not survive that.

    the Danish worldview

Not sure what this may mean for worldview, but I will offer this:

The Danes are reportedly quite heavy drinkers. compared to the Swedes and especially to the Norwegians (the latter have one of the lowest alcohol-per-capita consumption rates in Europe, which may surprise some).

I wonder if this is recent. A great-grandfather of mine (b. 1890s) was born in the U.S. to Dane parents but was personally anti-alcohol, and a teetotaler. This was in line with a common attitude of his generation, especially among Scandinavian-Lutherans in the Midwest at the time. Perhaps this reflected U.S. attitudes a lot more than Dane attitudes (he never lived in Denmark).

  28. Typical Krugman, like a good lefty he has gone from extolling the virtues of Sweden and now suddenly switching to Denmark without mentioning why. Sweden was all he could talk in the 2000′s, now that it has been overrun with the 3rd worlders burning cars he switches to the one non-Eastern European country that has restricted immigration in the EU and has been doing so since long before the migrant invasion. Denmark has been doing this immigration restriction for so long that the Onion’s faux world atlas book I got a decade ago was joking about it.

Denmark, Sweden, and Finland have never had much state ownership of their economy, only Norway among the Scandinavian countries ever did. They are social democratic welfare states with a mostly privately owned economy. However all of them plus Minnesota were all once racially and culturally homogenous, now only Denmark is, you wonder if Krugman really can’t connect the dots or he is just lying through his teeth by ignoring the demographic transformation of places like Sweden ( And Minnesota ).

“The early waves of damage were apparently done in the 1990s under left-wing rule”

It started already in the 1960s, when the first “gæstearbejdere” arrived from Turkey and Pakistan. By 1966, there was about 18,900 of them. As the term “gæstearbejdere” (“guest workers”) indicates, the idea was initially that it was a temporary measure to deal with temporary labor shortages. Turned out that it was the type of guests who did not know when to leave. (By contrast, from roughly 1890 to 1920, there were thousands of Polish guest workers in Denmark, but the majority of them returned to Poland after a short spell. The Danes probably assumed that the Muslim guest workers would do the same.)

In big countries there are many instances of virtue-signaling voting for mass migration without having the bear the consequences. The Scotch, for instance, are militantly in favor of mass migration, in part because the mass migrants actually settle in England.

If Germany were many states, the East and Bavaria would likely oppose Islamic population replacement.

In another hypothetical, combine Denmark Sweden and Norway into one country, the combined entity, dominated by the more populous Swedes, would impose Islamic and African migration on the Danes and Norwegians.

Krugman is a dishonest hack on a par with David Brooks — he personally has no idea where wealth comes from, since he’s never done a useful day’s work in his life — searching his Twitter timeline for “demography demographic”, he never mentions these concepts in combination with race/ethnicity in the context of wealth production — only sex and age structure.

    Don’t you mean ‘viable?’

The Danes have their own migrant assimilation problems, but only because they were open-eyed enough to see and open-minded enough to admit there was a problem did they clamp down on immigration, albeit reluctantly. They still are not doing mass deportations.

  37. MeandMe says:

As someone sitting in Denmark right now…and who has been sitting in Denmark for years now…

The reason why the media doesn’t criticize Denmark is because Denmark is going down in flames without the immigrants.

The biggest problem with Denmark is divorce, single-motherhood, and women having children of Alphas while not having their beta hubbies children.

The first thing Danish women ask me is ‘Is your husband a Dane?’ and then when I say ‘Yes’ they immediately cut me off as if ‘How dare she get one of our men to marry her when they won’t marry us!’

Danish women are the worst mothers in the Western world.

You definitely get shades of Logan’s Run here when it comes to parenthood.

So that’s why (()) let Denmark off…not only are there more than enough immigrants already in Denmark to kill the society, but Danes themselves are doing it all on their own.

Miscegenation + Fu ed up Kids from Fu ed up Families will take care of Denmark in a few generations

(Everything is ‘on average’…I know wonderful Danish mothers…but on average there is a serious problem…and even the women/men I like/respect are married to men/women who have kids with other people…might as well be a big orgy of semen and eggs for all it matters when it comes to parenthood here)

We have people and businesses shunning, refusing to provide service, or to have anything to do with those of the wrong political stripe–witness restaurants refusing service and/or being boycotted if someone connected with the Administration shows up. Never mind that half the country supported DT’s election.

It’ll be like that with Hungary and Denmark, once critical mass is achieved in Britain, Germany, etc. “Woke” countries will refuse to trade with “apostate” nations. In this manner the groundwork is being laid for war–Civil War in America, and Wars of Oppression elsewhere, and in all cases white people will find themselves sorely outnumbered.

The difference in alcohol consumption between Danes and Swedes is due to the astronomical tax Swedes place on liquor. I haven’t been to Sweden since 1986 but even then a beer in a bar in Sweden cost $5–in 1986 money! Consequently, Swedes ferried south to Denmark to get drunk.

I can’t be sure if this policy is still in effect but if it is it demonstrates that Swedes have this propensity towards extreme self abnegation–likely the same impulse that spurs their masochistic muslim-immigration policy. It’s as though they don’t trust themselves and put their virtue to the test by imposing impossible standards of sobriety and tolerance for the outsider upon themselves.

It changed when we joined the EU. It’s still fairly expensive in bars but now we take the ferry over to Denmark and Germany to load up the old van with cheap booze and beer instead.

The original motivation was that Sweden had a drinking problem, which led to booze rationing, various temperance movements, punitive taxes, etc. And I’ll say that I have had two acquaintances die fairly early and quite quickly, blood clot or heart attack or something, probably due to a love of drinking. Another good friend also had to give it up after losing his … spleen? Well, some internal organ. Because of booze, he told me.

Yusef was, besides some vestigial Islamic/Ottoman customs (no pork, no alcohol, all halal food, hookah, prayer towards Mecca) basically all American. He hated Arabs way more than I do. I tried convincing him Islam was a fundamentally Arab religion but he wouldn’t hear of it. The second year I lived with him he didn’t even fast for Ramadan (understandable given the 15-16 hours per day between dawn and sunset during the Michigan summer).

His parents were not very assimilated. They wanted him to marry his dad’s brother’s daughter. Yusef flatly refused and that was that. His sisters also refused to wear hijab and both moved out to live on their own before marriage, much to their parents’ dismay.

The spin the latter puts on this is a great example of “diversity is our strength” ; )

“Why is US sperm so popular?” asks Jarvis:

It’s not about the superior fitness of American males, exactly. One reason is that the US’s immigration history means lots of ethnic diversity. For some would-be mothers from other parts of the world, this can give US product a leg up over places like Denmark, another sperm exporting powerhouse.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the US export sperm market by ethnicity. The news from Brazil calls the Smithsonian interpretation into question: https://www.dailywire.com/news/28581/demand-white-american-sperm-surges-brazil-amanda-prestigiacomo

Looking around a bit, I thought this was also interesting: https://www.economist.com/business/2017/09/14/the-business-of-sperm-banks

As for buyers of sperm, many head for jurisdictions where waiting times and prices are lower or the level of testing or information about the donor greater, or because restrictive rules at home prevent them from receiving donor sperm altogether. In Hong Kong and Switzerland, for example, only married, heterosexual couples are eligible for treatment with donor sperm. In France lesbians and single women are excluded.

Adjusting IQs wouldn’t be relevant to my original comment since Denmark and the US have the same IQ. An IQ advantage wouldn’t explain Denmark’s socialist success.

Regarding IQ adjustment, there’s greater variation among European nations than Asian nations, although part of this appears to be due to the fact that Europe is divided into many nations, while mainland China is a unified polity and taken as one nation. There are European nations with IQs in the low 90s, so the additions or subtractions have to be greater than 5 to make the adjustments.

In fact, Scandinavians as a group are seen as the most honest people in the world, as Finland #3, Sweden #4 and Norway #6 are all highly ranked.

Sadly the same cannot be said about the government in the US. Our government is run by too many crooks, a greedy lot who share an origin with Paul Krugman who are interested only in fattening their own pockets. In her book The Burden of Bad Ideas (2000) Heather MacDonald exposed the thousands of ways our government squanders our tax dollars through a maze of social service agencies that basically do nothing. As Trump said: waste, fraud and abuse!

The last thing we need is to pay more taxes into such a corrupt, crooked system with little to no accountability to the taxpayers. The US federal government needs to shrink massively, not expand. 90% of federal government agencies should be shut down with power returned to the states. 90% of federal laws should be struck down and rewritten by individual states. Then we let the states compete for the cleanest, most efficiently run government and allow people and businesses to vote with their feet.

It’d be interesting to see how Denmark and Sweden diverge from each other culturally and politically in the next hundred years. They’re clearly on irrevocably different paths now.

There’s going to be way more “divergence” across the West than this.

A bit of irony, but it seems to me that all the minoritarians/anti-nationalists finder wagging about “lessons of the Holocaust”, uttering incantations about “diversity” and “tolerance” and screeching about Nazis, are stoking up the fires of civil war–perhaps even a great European war.

I simply don’t believe all the white people are going to go quietly. It’s harder in some places than others. But for instance in these supposedly completely cucked Scandinavian nations, are all the rural people–with their fields and forests and fiords–going to be content to being bossed around and lorded over by their “multicultural”–i.e. completely foreign–urban centers. What exactly will stop them from saying “F’-it, we’re leaving. We’ll be ‘real Sweden’.” Even the Danes, with their tiny country, aren’t most of the muzzies on that island with Copenhagen–Zealand? Isn’t the Jutland pretty much Danish? Couldn’t they secede. Seems like in many places in Europe the natives could declare various cities to be independent city states and simple expel them from their nations. But, of course, whatever happens it will be contentious and ultimately involve some level of violence.

And all unnecessary. After the War, people were moved about and aligned with national borders quite well. Should have ushered in a great age of peace and prosperity. Then the usual cheap labor shills got going and brought a few folks in. Then the left piled on that with their “Holocaust”, “diversity”, “tolerance”, “multicultural” shtick, smelling cheap votes and a chance to abuse their enemies and attain permanent control of the state. And here we are.

Scandinavia may have income equality and low levels of administrative corruption in the public sector, but it has another kind of corruption, namely high levels of tax evasion and wealth inequality, and low levels of wealth mobility. Its system of high taxation and welfare is designed to preserve the wealth, position and power of the wealthy elite and to prevent mobility and competition.

    https://marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolution/2014/05/wealth-inequality-in-sweden.html

Sweden is viewed as an egalitarian utopia by outsiders, but reality is complex. In some ways Sweden has less social equality than the United States. While the American upper class is largely meritocratic, the upper class in Sweden are still mostly defined by birth…

The upper classes in Sweden retain a disproportional hold on wealth and power. The formal nobility in Sweden constitutes around 0.2% of the population. A couple of years ago I looked through the list of the wealthiest Swedes. Fully 10% of the richest Swedes are members of the nobility. By contrast not a single one of the richest Swedes was a non-European immigrant. Of Sweden’s prime-ministers Sweden during the modern era 20% belonged to the nobility.

Sweden is known for income equality. Increasingly, studies also point to Sweden as a country characterized by high intergenerational mobility of income. Income-distribution and wealth distribution are however not the same thing. What some may not know is that wealth-inequality is relatively high in Sweden. The top one percent own around 35% of wealth in the United States. In Sweden, because of extensive tax evasion, the number is harder to calculate. When including estimates of wealth held outside of Sweden, Roine and Waldenström estimate that the top one percent richest Swedes own 25-40% of total wealth, not far from American inequality levels, and increasing more rapidly.

At the same time, the intergenerational mobility of top wealth is chokingly low. A recent studyfound that a astonishing 80-90% of inequality of top wealth is transmitted to the next generation in Sweden!

According to one studythe share of the richest Swedes who inherited their wealth is around, 2/3 with 1/3 being entrepreneurs, while in the United States it was the opposite, with 1/3 of the wealthiest inherited their wealth while around 2/3 are entrepreneurs.

Thus while the Swedish middle class is large and has a compressed earning distribution, at the very top you have a small number of aristocratic families controlling much of the wealth. Mobility into this group is rare, probably rares than it is in the United States.

I seriously doubt that the population of the US has the same average IQ as the population of Denmark.

You realize that the “American” population includes several tens of millions of Africans (albeit often 15-25% white) and several tens of millions of mestizo and indio Latinos (Mexicans and other Spanish/Indian people).

  115. @Another German Reader

Your scenario seems far more plausible and realistic than the USA, Canada, Europe, and formerly-great formerly-Britain ever coming to our senses, expelling our immi-vaders, and competing as peers or better with China on those fronts.

I mean, there’s a good reason why we have our kids learning Mandarin from a young age. And good reasons why we increasingly question the utility of having them also learn German, as they have been.

In the USA, almost every objective measure of social dysfunction, from single teen mother birth rate to crime rate to divorce rate to STD rate, is getting better within the white and black core population, with really dramatic changes since the USA’s low point circa 1990.

For instance, the black teen birth rate is down 80% from its peak.

There are a few bad points. The use of opiates and young women disfiguring themselves with tattoos for example. (Would be nice if gentiles would follow the Jewish example and avoid tattoos. Even secular Jews are far less likely to get them.)

Overall, the trend is still very positive, and social ills can be blamed more on immigrant population replacement, not cultural and moral decline.

For the reasons in my comment above about small countries, the more that EU countries break up, the better. It was sad that Scotland did not leave the UK for example. And Spain should let Catalonia leave, and use that as an excuse to repudiate the Spanish national debt and leave the Euro. Let the Basques and Galicians leave too if they want. It will hurt a bit at first to lose these richer parts of the country, but nothing compared to the benefits of leaving the Euro and national debt behind. Finally, Spain should sell those two little bits of mainland Africa it is still holding on to back to Morocco. They are magnets for African migration, as pretty as the golf course there is.

Even within the USA, small states are mostly better run (corrupt Rhode Island is the exception).

  120. @Lot

“In the USA, almost every objective measure of social dysfunction, from single teen mother birth rate to crime rate to divorce rate to STD rate”

that’s not accurate at all. the violent crime rate for africans is up over the last 3 years, not down. and as soon as democrats are back in control of the white house, and de-policing resumes, the violent crime rate rise will resume. 1 or 2 terms of trump won’t stop what the democrats want long term, which is for africans to not have to obey any laws.

the STD rate in the US has skyrocketed. particularly among the vibrant. probably due to cell phones and social media, and due to normalizing homosexuals. there are now untreatable versions of most common STDs due to how high the STD rate has climbed. antibiotic, retroviral resistant gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV exist in 2018.

the suicide rate is near or at the all time high. and most pertinent, the death rate from drugs is at the all time high. except now it’s heroin and fentanyl instead of crack.

teen birth rates are down because the birth rates are down, since americans don’t make more humans anymore. that’s a negative thing really, not a positive thing. 100 years ago american women got married and had kids when they were 18 or 19, like my grandmother, who had 4 kids before she was 30. as that plays out as the decades roll on, europeans will steadily disappear from the nation, replaced by vibrant immigrants. america would be better off if european women who were limited to a high school level of education due to intelligence, got married after high school, and got pregnant by 20, instead of wasting 5 years on a college pursuit of dubious value, and the accompanying debt.

the teen pregnancy rate isn’t really the problem at all, it’s the single mother rate. which, do i need to yet again point out the direction of things? we’re now up to 75% for african women, and over 30% for european women. all trending in the wrong direction. a century in the past, 19 year old women getting married and getting pregnant was was fine and normal for europeans. that’s how the country was built.

the divorce rate? that has to be at the all time high. as if people even get married anymore. which they don’t. but for the people who do get married, they’ve never been more likely to divorce than they are today.

“Overall, the trend is still very positive”

not at all. performance on intelligence tests and related scholastic tests is clearly declining, among most groups. the long term trend is totally negative overall. small incremental improvements in, say, cancer treatment, and reduction in smoking, don’t offset the demographic reckoning the US is heading towards. even traffic deaths are not going down.

One mildly interesting fact I learned, possibly from a fellow commenter around these parts (I can’t quite remember). The Danes invented a a very useful word for something that has no simple name in English: the habit of certain immigrant groups of sending their kids back to their homeland on extended vacation, to prevent them from assimilating too closely with their “fellow citizens” in the first world. And they’ve passed laws to punish the parents who send their kids on those kinds of trips.

I just wish the name were easier to pronounce. “Genopdragelsesrejser” is a bit of a mouthful for Anglophones.

Back in the days leading up to WWII when American English had a shorter loanword for this phenomenon (“kibei”), we also had laws to address it. We stripped dual citizens of their US citizenship if they resided for too long in their other country of citizenship (e.g. Section 402 of the Nationality Act of 1940, or Section 350 of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952). Too bad, people forgot the word and the phenomenon it described, then the law got rewritten by Earl Warren’s court, and then Congress quietly surrendered and took the law off the books in 1978.

The neocons are doing the most harm with this (for example Schumer who openly says that he’s a 100% Israel firster). A couple of airliners to Tel Aviv would accommodate most of them, and they can agitate all they want from there without pretending that they are Americans.

This is actually an interesting point. “Guestworkers” will go home if they calculate a gain by doing so. Repatriation is likely always going to be knotty but surely an uncomfortable cultural environment might do the trick. In other words do the opposite of what the British do in, say, making a welcome environment for salafist muslims wishing to feel at home.

In reality, Denmark has had its fair share of immigration.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2016/01/denmark-refugees-immigration-law/431520/

“While Denmark has not traditionally been a magnet for immigration, it hasn’t necessarily been an unwelcome place for migrants either. Over the course of the 20th century, the country of nearly 6 million became home to refugees and immigrants from the Soviet bloc, the Balkans, the Middle East, and beyond. Today, immigrants and their descendants account for 10 percent of the total population. Denmark has also been a prominent advocate for refugees and asylum-seekers. It was one of the first countries to become a party to the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, and the Danish Refugee Council—a humanitarian group partly funded by the Danish government and the Danish public—is actively involved in supporting refugees and internally displaced peoples around the world.”

But the government, with the consent of the people, is making it much more harder for immigrants to go there and/or stay there. The “gimmedats” remain.

“Danish officials have responded with a series of steps, many rather dramatic, that appear to be aimed at dissuading migrants from coming to Denmark in the first place. In August, the government cut social benefits to refugees and immigrants by 45 percent, in a move marketed as an “integration benefit.” To ensure the message was clearly received, the Danish government proceeded to advertise the benefit cut, as well as other government policies that asylum-seekers might find unappealing, in newspapers in Lebanon, which has a large refugee population. More recently, the government proposed moving refugees from urban housing to camps outside cities, an initiative that would “shift the focus of government immigration policy to repatriation rather than integration,” according to Reuters. A Danish city council mandated the placement of pork on municipal menus (observant Muslims don’t eat pork), including at schools and daycare centers, while a Danish court fined a Danish man for driving five migrants through Denmark, from Germany to Sweden.”

“Why has the Danish government resorted to these rather passive-aggressive tactics, instead of simply sealing off its borders or issuing some blanket ban on granting asylum? As a member of the European Union and signatory to multiple UN conventions on the subject, Denmark has “to offer … an opportunity to somebody who is coming to their borders … to be heard. If they make an asylum claim, the state has no choice but to adjudicate that claim,” explained Demetrios Papademetriou, the president of the Migration Policy Institute’s Europe center. “The issue is whether you’re offering them permanent protection … with all the benefits … or whether you’re offering them temporary protection. And then, whether you’re trying to sort of make it difficult and send messages back to would-be newcomers that this is not really a friendly place for you to come.”

Maybe raw IQ numbers are like horsepower figures on engines. A 300 hp car engine, a 300 hp heavy truck engine, and a 300 hp aircraft engine are three different things although all will do the same amount of work at peak power. The truck engine will weigh much more than the car engine. The aircraft engine will weigh less. They are not interchangeable to any great extent. People have been trying to use car engines in homebnuilt airplanes for seven or eight decades with limited success, and school buses had car engines where bus buses (transits and highway coaches, e.g, city buses and Greyhounds) had two cycle 71 series Detroits or 3208 Cats.

That’s why “education is to serious as school is to bus”.
