From the New York Times:

“I’m not sure if the mayor is racist, but this policy is certainly discriminatory,” said Kenneth Chiu, chairman of the New York City Asian-American Democratic Club. “It’s like the Chinese Exclusion Act, is what I think,” he continued, comparing the plan to a 19th-century immigration law that effectively prohibited Chinese immigration. “Our mayor is pitting minority against minority, which is really, really messed up, to put it nicely.”

Pitting minority against minority is just wrong.

In contrast, pitting all minorities against whites is The Arc of the Moral Universe Bending Toward Justice.

Soo Kim, president of the Stuyvesant Alumni Association, said that while the schools are often described as elite, the children who attend them exist worlds away from the lives of the 1 percent. Many of the students — and indeed, many of the Asian students — who attend specialized schools are poor. Many of them go to years of test prep in order to earn scores good enough to gain admission.

If they can afford “years of test prep” are they really that poor? People in New York City have been known to generate some cash flow with out leaving much of a paper trail. Just sayin’ …

Always entertaining to see “minorities” discover that their oppressed status doesn’t mean they are on the same page in terms of goals or what society owes them. The political left of course tries to use intersectionality to argue that they share the same struggle, but Tiger Moms don’t look at black teenagers and see a slightly different version of their own progeny, not by a long shot (or vice versa). They certainly don’t feel like they are obligated to give up the place they or their kids have earned.

This Richard Carranza guy is amazinging blunt and guileless in how he talks. He’s trashed white parents as racists, and now he’s gunning for the Asians. He must really think he is untouchable in his job.

If he were black I’d wager that there would be enough skeletons in his closet (#metoo, bribery, plagiarized dissertation, and all that blacks-in-charge goodness) that he’d be taken down. But I don’t know how vulnerable a Hispanic asshole is.

One way that this could backfire for Blasio is that the legislature could add the newer five schools to the current three that are protected by state law.

“setting aside 20 percent of the seats at each of the specialized schools for students from high-poverty schools — which tend to have a high share of black and Hispanic students — who score just below the cutoff score.”

    Hmmm. Define “just below.”

The school superintendent Richard Carrenza is all for the affirmative action plan. NYC has hundreds of private schools. Why send your children to public schools with the immigrant and black dregs?

Affirmative action has been the law of the land for 5o years. It is ferociously enforced by numerous government agencies and Jewish attorneys. So why should Asian immigrants be exempt from a 50 year old law?

Asians love affirmative action when it’s enforced against Whites. Let the law be applied equally.

I’m a White Nationalist. I don’t try to disguise my White Nationalism by worrying about Asians being affected by affirmative action. They want to live in America? Let them take the bad with the good

I understand there’s an article In The Atlantic about how affirmative action hurts blacks when they are accepted in colleges and can’t do the work. Boo boo what about the well qualified Whites who are discriminated against in college admissions every year because that is the affirmative action law: Whites must be discriminated against

This is what Blasio is relying on, some NYU academic think tank thing from a few years ago:

Pathways to an Elite Education: Exploring Strategies to Diversify NYC’s Specialized High Schools
    https://steinhardt.nyu.edu/scmsAdmin/media/users/sg158/PDFs/Pathways_to_elite_education/PathwaystoAnEliteEducation.pdf

In a typical year, about 25,000 8th graders take the SHSAT (which is free), and 5,000 are offered admission to a specialized high school. These admitted students represent about 6 percent of the 80,000 or more 8th graders who participate in NYC’s high school admissions process each year.
    :
The current path from middle school to enrollment in a specialized high school is marked by several critical milestones. These include the decision to apply to a specialized high school (by taking the SHSAT), receiving an admissions offer, and accepting that offer.

Apparently girls, Hispanics, and the poor are less likely to take the test. Blacks apparently do take the test, but don’t do well. If accepted, girls are more likely to turn down the offer and go to another sort of school. The poor and Asians are more likely to accept.

The “feeder schools” that account for such a large number of the specialized high school admittees are simply middle schools that admit based in large part on standardized testing.

The report makes a big deal about how they “controlled for academic achievement” and found disparities. I think that this means that they controlled for fuzzy things like class grades, gold stars, and group project grades, and, golly, many of the kids who did so well on these somehow didn’t do so well on the standardized tests. What on earth could be going on?

They simulate several “reforms,” and some increase Hispanics and girls, but not blacks, who in some cases would be less likely to be admitted. The one thing that would increase black students is what Blasio is trying to do (although is percentage cutoff is higher):

The only simulated admissions rule that would substantially change the demographic mix of the specialized high schools—and reduce the concentration of offers in a small number of middle schools—is a rule that guarantees admission to all students across the City who are in the top 10 percent of their middle school. This rule would have a large impact on diversity, but at the cost of reducing the average achievement of incoming students, particularly in math. Under this rule, the average math achievement of admitted students would be about 0.12 standard deviations (or 7.2 percent) lower, a potential concern for the math- and science- oriented specialized schools.

The researchers then imply that Asians are gaming the system with test prep for the SHSAT admisstions test, although they have no facts to show this.

Finally, our simulations cannot speak to certain student characteristics, such as complex thinking skills, that the SHSAT may measure but the state tests do not.

To some extent, the SHSAT does appear to be a barrier to diversity in the specialized high schools. Among students with comparable achievement on New York State ELA and math tests, Black, Latino, low-income, and female students are significantly less likely to score high enough on the SHSAT to be admitted to a specialized school.

This SHSAT sounds like a really solid test.

    >The Asian woman interjects, saying: “Mind your language.” The mother shouts back: “What am I saying wrong!”

    >”Be calm, be calm,” the Asian woman states. To which the mother responds: “What’s calm? You playing with my kid! That’s your kid, you’d be okay with it?! … So f*** you!”

    >Once again, the Asian woman asks that the mother mind her language. “Mind your a**, and move it!” the mother demands. “B****, I will move you off that seat! Try me!” she adds.

    >The mother then tells her young daughter to “push” the Asian woman off of the seat. It appears that the girl does as her mother demands, nudging the Asian woman from her right side.

    >The mother then leaps up, and pushes the Asian woman from the seat onto the ground. “Go ahead, b****! Move! Move your a**!”

    >After being helped up by another passenger, the Asian women again tells the mother to watch her language. The mother responds: “F*** your language!”

    >She continues, turning to another passenger: “Tell her what she did wrong! She put my child outta seat!”

    >From here, things take a decidedly racist turn. “This ain’t your country! Welcome to America! Gangsta. Welcome to Brooklyn, b****!” the mother screams. “Gonna put my child outta seat ‘cause my daughter’s Spanish and she Chinese, you gonna get up for her to sit down!”

    >The Asian woman then sits down opposite the mother, and says something unintelligible. The mother responds: “You right, I am crazy! B****, I spit at you!”

    >Near the end of the filmed encounter, the mother seemingly gears up to spit, then challenges the Asian woman to “do something.”

The poor and Asians are more likely to accept.

As I keep writing here, schools such as Stuyvesant (my alma mater) have never been truly elite. Actual elite high schools are almost always private and have massive endowments (and alumni networks) that put minor Ivies to shame.

These public magnet schools have always been a gateway for poor, but smart New Yorkers, usually immigrants. Previously that meant Jews, now it’s Asians.

Asians with wealth send their kids to Exeter, Andover, and St. Albans, not Stuy, Bronx Sci or TJ. That’s another reason, by the way, these public magnet schools in NYC and Northern VA have become more heavily Asian. These areas have “gentrified” greatly and no longer have many poor Jews (or other ethnic whites). The largest pool of poor, but smart immigrants are Asians.

I don’t gamble, but if the present situation continued, I predict that Stuy and TJ will increasingly be South Asian, because cognitively selective immigration from India has increased dramatically in the recent decades (they are the fastest growing Asian immigrant group in the U.S.).

The number of illegal Chinese in the US is much higher than is commonly realized and in a lot of ways Chinese are more dangerous in the long run than Mexicans.

Yet there is no political discussion of effectively controlling them, although prole whites routinely talk about kicking illegal Mexicans out. While Dems and most of the GOP are highly interested in keeping the Mexicans here and actively burn political capital to squelch doing anything to enforce the laws regarding the Mexicans, even rightist efforts are complely silent about the Chinese.

Almost every Chinese restaurant in my area is run by families of fresh off the boat Chinese. I understand the vast majority of Chinese restaurants and laundries are owned by legals, but that they tend to import illegal congeners to keep the business going as their kids move on to corporate or government jobs. The fat PR mama might as well be black, she is fairly dark. I will theorize that her “family” has been in NYC for a few generations. That she does not appreciate FOB Mainland Chinese migrating into NYC in such large numbers into “her” city. This has upset her sense of place and sense of what NYC is. NYC is much much more Chinese than 30 years ago. Used to be one Chinatown in lower Manhattan. Now there are five with a few in Queens and Brooklyn.
I am saying that the PR could tell the Chinese woman was a recent arrival, within the last 5-10 years. I also understand that Asians – Chinese are taking apartments in public housing that would have gone to blacks and Hispanics. It might be that Asians-Chinese are gaming (cheating) the wait lists for such housing.
NYC population is growing and overwhelming the infrastructure such as subways that are more crowded than ever. Much of this due to Asians of all stripes moving there. No way would I want to live there in a zillion years, or nearby suburbs. Puerto Ricans who move off Island head to the much cheaper Orlando area these days. Public education–especially elite/selective public education–works well for “one people” nations. But it–as well as other public goods–just becomes highly contentious with “diversity”. We are no longer a “one people” nations–to the extent we ever were. So it’s just a bad idea to stick with it.

The Chinese and subcon Asians are working the long hours in prole jobs. The elite high schools are their children’s ticket out of shitsville and they take this very very seriously. Not at elite universities (where it’s the opposite), but there are government-sponsored affirmative action programs that benefit Asians such as minority-owned small business government contracting. There is no reason why people who were privileged to have immigrated here should get yet another benefit at the expense of the general taxpayers.

I’m not sure what the transfer policy is for Stuyvesant, but I imagine it will be expanded to make up for the higher dropout rate. The end result will be only a slight change from the status quo.

  59. Did you help them back then? Did you help them when they were getting reverse-AA’d at elite schools? Did you help them when they were holed up on rooftops from black gangs and Hispanic looters?

I’ve got no answers. Maybe they should have stayed in their perfectly functional homelands. Title VII was an attempt to redress grievances of slave descendants inextricably tied into the history of America itself; everybody else was a radar blip, and they chose to come here. So from the premise of historical grievance, what “help” do Asians want or need? Are whites supposed to team up with Asians to put the beatdown on blacks so first- and second-generations Asians can feel safe living in LA or New York? Welcome to white world, where you’re expected to negotiate the thicket of bad neighborhoods, lousy schools, inflated housing and credentialism on your own.

“Asians are gaming the system with test prep”

It should always be noted in discussions of Stuyvesant that the truly elite NYC public high school is Hunter, operated by City University. There are also a few other operating in a similar manner. The entry into those schools is based on classroom grades and a kind of interview teacher recommendation system which is similar to Ivy League applications and does likely have a diversity component. Also notice no one really talks much about Hunter or the others.

It is not clear from Alumni lists that Stuyvesant is a big deal, although I suspect Stuyvesant does produce a large number of professionals like dentists.

Based solely on past performance (for 3 Nobel Prize winners) the #1 NYC high school is …. Rock Rock Rock Rockaway High School. Alumni include Richard Feynman, Carl Ichan, Bernard Madoff, and 2 other Nobel winners. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Far_Rockaway_High_School#Notable_alumni

    Asians don’t get affirmative action.

It depends on the context. Twinkie mentioned an example. Here is some documentation for what qualifies as “socially disadvantaged” for SBA loans.

    (b) Members of designated groups. (1) There is a rebuttable presumption that the following individuals are socially disadvantaged: Black Americans; Hispanic Americans; Native Americans (Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians, or enrolled members of a Federally or State recognized Indian Tribe); Asian Pacific Americans (persons with origins from Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Japan, China (including Hong Kong), Taiwan, Laos, Cambodia (Kampuchea), Vietnam, Korea, The Philippines, U.S. Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands (Republic of Palau), Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, Samoa, Macao, Fiji, Tonga, Kiribati, Tuvalu, or Nauru); Subcontinent Asian Americans (persons with origins from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives Islands or Nepal); and members of other groups designated from time to time by SBA according to procedures set forth at paragraph (d) of this section. Being born in a country does not, by itself, suffice to make the birth country an individual’s country of origin for purposes of being included within a designated group.

Elite doesn’t mean “elite” because some parents/families are poor or struggling–inasmuch as the students, by demonstrating academic merit in passing the admission test are, in fact, elite as compared to their contemporaries.

Admissions testing, as a selection method for academic achievement, while discriminating the wheat from the chaff and segregating by academic merit, is actually subterfuge for racial animosity, i.e. racial discrimination and racial segregation.

The threshold for “economic disadvantage” is pretty generous. Any start-up small business will likely qualify as the threshold excludes your retirement account, all your business equity, primary residence and capital that you reinvest in your business.

Net worth: For initial eligibility, the adjusted net worth of the person claiming economic disadvantage must be less than $250,000. The adjustment typically excludes: (1) funds invested in an IRA, 401(k), or other official retirement account; (2) income received from an S corporation, LLC or partnership, if that income was reinvested in the company or used to pay company taxes, (3) the equity interest in the applicant company, and (4) equity in the individual’s primary residence.

    A very predictable response.

First of all, Koreans are not the “new alien overclass.” Let me clue you in. See who is running Microsoft today.

Second of all, the point of my earlier comment wasn’t to assign blames. We – all of us – bear varying degrees of blame for the situation that exists in the country today, whether it be simply buying Chinese-made goods or looking for the cheapest landscaping or what have you.

The salient point that I was trying to make was that, instead of assigning who did what to whom IN THE PAST and emoting with slogans, the way to make thing better IN THE FUTURE is to build the opposite of “the coalition of the fringes” – the coalition of the core, if you like, including disaffected whites, cultural traditionalists, conservative Christians, small government/free speech types, technocrats dismayed by SJW/diversity employment practices, and what have you.

And a coalition – or an alliance – is built on mutual interests. For example, in this specific case, dismantling affirmative action helps both Asians and non-Jewish whites. Why do you think that when what Anatoly Karlin called Generation Zyklon (those in high school) were surveyed all non-white demographic groups indicated that they would vote in the majority for Hillary Clinton, EXCEPT ASIAN MALES who expressed support for Trump by a small majority?

And of course, this also means they can’t even get along with their fellow pro-white activists, hence the constant feuding, backstabbing and general psychodrama in every pro-white movement and organisation.

Stay clear of these people. They’ll bring you nothing but trouble.

Thanks. I looked for something like that but was unable to find it.

Why do you think that when what Anatoly Karlin called Generation Zyklon (those in high school) were surveyed all non-white demographic groups indicated that they would vote in the majority for Hillary Clinton, EXCEPT ASIAN MALES who expressed support for Trump by a small majority?

If they’re supporting Trump in high school, by the time they’re 40, they’ll be voting in lockstep for the GOP. As far as I can tell, high schoolers have traditionally been pretty left-wing, to the extent that a super-majority supports liberals. Churchill was right.

On the other hand, there are currently:

3 Asian Senators, all representing the “black party”

13 Asian Congressmen, all representing the “black party”

1 Asian Governor, representing the “black party.”

Therefore of major, active Asian lawmakers, 17/17 are subsidized by the “black party.”

You have your work cut out for you, Twinx.

Aren’t these Asian pols basically kapos – helping to screw their Asian brethren out of college admissions and corporate careers on behalf of the black party? Why would it make sense in the long term for Asians to vote for these traitors?

There’s no way forward as long as the Repubs exist to push globalization/mass immigration. They are not our friends.

Suddenly pretty-good white and Asian students will become interested in those high-poverty schools, but do they dare risk their lives in them? How many years do you have to attend one of them to have the easier cutoff on the SHSAT?

Asian politicians see whites as the enemy, or at least the piggy bank. Being practical people, they want what whites have got. That’s why they or their ancestors moved here in the first place, to some extent.

The blacks don’t have anything they want, other than affirmative action / protected class status they won’t be able to get anyway. They see the best political expedient as joining the blacks against the whites.

You bring people in who seem to be useful, and they turn against you. First the black slaves, in Reconstruction and endless agitation since. Then the Chinese, not so much the coolies but the more effective grad-student generation and especially their less academically oriented kids. Does anyone else think this is an appropriate analogy, despite the many and obvious differences?
